It is by no means complete, a good FAQ never is, but it does contain everything I've learned about the character. An online version of this guide will soon be available on my website as soon as I finalize this text-based version of it. This guide, so far, is only to appear on www.gamefaqs.com until I decide to post it on others sites. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | COPYRIGHT | MKDG101 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This FAQ is copyright 2004 - 2005 to me, Elranzer (William Rozell). You may use it personally in any manner. Printing is encouraged. Any site other than GameFAQs must contact me before putting it on their site. This FAQ may not be used in any publications. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | VERSION INFO | MKDO102 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version 1.2 - Fixed a few errors. Version 1.1 - Updated Gamecube method to play as Onaga. Made a seperate section about unlocking Onaga. Version 1.0 - I think this is as complere as an Onaga FAQ is going to get, until there turns up a way to control him without a cheat device. Version 0.4 - Corrected a few mistakes. Version 0.3 - Added a faster mirror for the photos. Corrected a few more things in information. Added yet another special move. Version 0.2 - Editted the layout a little. Added another special move to his list. A few people emailed me to correct the fact that Onaga will indeed stage death you in the last fight of arcade mode. Added Onaga's Puzzle Fighter info. Added more to the FAQ section. Version 0.1 - Pretty much just started. Added everything I could right now, plus I'm sure there's going to be some spelling mistakes. Definitely there will be updates to come. Hopefully the the guide will reach FINAL status when the real way to unlock him is known. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE | MKDO103 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A growing trend in newer game guides is the use of virtual page numbers. This has helped incredibly for readers to navigate rather lengthy guides. Just use your browser's FIND command (Ctrl + F for most) to type in the "page number" listed. They are listed only twice, in the Table of Kontents and their respective section, so you can leap directly to a section. ========================================================================== | ONAGA BACKGROUND | MKDO200 | ========================================================================== Onaga is introduced with back story, dating back since MK:DA. He also has a planned ending, as seen in the Production Art. His ending never made it into the programming, however. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | BACK STORY | MKDO201 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Onaga was first mentioned in the introduction of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Shang Tsung and Quan Chi formed an alliance to wake the army of the Dragon King. It is said that whomever controls this army would be unstoppable. Onaga is the Dragon King whom this army once belonged to. Onaga was the original ruler of Outworld, the parallel universe to Earthrealm. His grand advisor, Shao Kahn, betrayed Onaga by poisoning him, thus killing him. Shao Kahn assumed the throne of Outworld and transformed it into an imperialistice realm, bent on conquering the other realms. He would hold tournaments called Mortal Kombat in which the inhabitants of the realms would have a chance to save their land from Shao Kahn taking it over. This would prove furitless, however, as kombatants who would finish Mortal Kombat would meet their fate when they were faced with Kahn's bodyguard, Kintaro. Anyone who could beat Kintaro would then have to fight Kahn himself, and all who have reached Kahn have only met their deaths. Kahn handed control of the Mortal Kombat tournament to Shang Tsung as he had to deal with other matters, mainly involving resurrecting his queen, Sindel. Meanwhile, a mysterious egg emerged in the depths of Outworld... One arena in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance featured the Dragon King's egg in a lava type environment. This was Onaga's egg. It would take the six Kamidogu to provide the power to hatch this egg. The character Blaze, a hidden fighter in MK:DA, was the guardian of the egg. It is assumed in the events of MK:D's Konquest that Onaga erases Blaze's memory and kills him, which is why you can find Blaze wandering the Netherrealm without a memory. Mortal Kombat: Deception opens up with Onaga marching in on the battle between Raiden, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. This causes the former enemies to put aside their difference to focus on trying to defeat this greater evil. Their combined might could not destroy him, so Raiden sacrificed himself in an explosion of light in an attempt to kill Onaga. This act only resulted in the deaths of Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, and the destruction of the Dragon King Army. Raiden, being a god, did not die but returned to the Realm of Order (MK:D's equivalent of Heaven). Having been fed up with the humans constantly bringing the Earthrealm to the brink of destruction, Raiden became a dark god. He no longer cared about protecting the human race, his new objective was to make sure that the humans did not destroy Earthrealm. He was particularly angered with the warrior Shujinko, the human who was decieved into collecting the six Kamidogu and awakening the Dragon King. Onaga waits in his palace, with the six Kamidogu and Shinnok's amulet which has the power to merge the Kamidogu and the realms. One by one the kombatants of the sixth Mortal Kombat tournament attempt to challenge Onaga and protect the realms from mearging into the One Being. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ONAGA'S ENDING | MKDO202 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scene 1: "My enemies had failed to prevent me from fusing all the weapons of the Elder Gods into one. I used this ultimate weapon to warp reality, merging the realms into a singular existence." Scene 2: "Not satisfied with merely ruling one realm, I took all that exists and merged it into myself. There can only be one consciousness. I am everything. I have become... the One Being." Note: Onaga has no ending if you beat the game. The ending comes from the Production Art for his planned, but never implimented, ending. ========================================================================== | PLAYING AS ONAGA | MKDO300 | ========================================================================== Onaga only has one fighting style. Using the CS button will just keep repeating it. You will notice many of the same moves have different button combonations. He's a rather simple character. Be prepared to just use a lot of strong, melee combat and a few simple and powerful moves. He plays a lot like the boss characters in the previous Mortal Kombats. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | FIGHTING STYLES | MKDO301 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- DRAGON ------ Dragon Fist: 1 Low Kick: Down + 1 Three-Hit Punch: 2 High Kick: Down + 2 Dragon Slam: 3 Mid Kick: Down + 3 Backhand Slap: 4 Backward Toss: Throw -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | SPECIAL MOVES | MKDO302 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dragon Breath: F,B,1 Dragon Scorch: F,D,1 Dragon Stomp: F,F,1 Dragon Slam: F,F,2 Dragon Slide: F,F,3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | PUZZLE FIGHTER | MKDO303 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've discovered that Onaga indeed has a Puzzle Fighter version of him hidden in the game. Whether or not he can be sed or fought against by conventional methods is yet to be known. Super: Arrange (Arranges all the colored blocks next to each other) If you decide to play as Onaga, you must keep in mind two things. First of all, his wings cover up about 30% of your play area. So only play as him if you're pretty good. Second, his super move builds up very, very slowly. I doubt you'll ever get to use the move unless you're playing 3-round matches. Other than that, he plays like any other Puzzler. ========================================================================== | FIGHTING AGAINST ONAGA | MKDO400 | ========================================================================== As Onaga is a boss character, he does not play like a normal battle. He does require a different approach, and a gimmicky tactic is required if using a normal kombatant to face him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | NORMAL CHARACTERS VS ONAGA | MKDO401 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Onaga is like Motaro in that he is completely immune to projectile attacks. This could be why Raiden, Shang and Quan Chi were unable to defeat him in the beginning of the game--all they used were their projectile attacks. You have to hit him with strong melee attacks and combos. Do not jump attack him. You will notice he has high defense. You need to use the Up and Down buttons to move towards the six Kamidogu and touch them. When you break a Kamidogu, Onaga will be stunned briefly and his defense will be halfed for one attack. Use this oppertunity to hit him with a long chain combo. You only have six chances per battle to use this tactic. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ONAGA VS ONAGA | MKDO402 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- If playing as Onaga, one thing you'll notice is that you can not smash the six Kamidogu. You need to just lay on the melee attacks faster than the CPU Onaga can lay them on you. Do not bother to use the Dragon Breath or Dragon Slam as Onaga is immune to both. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | VS PUZZLE KOMBAT ONAGA | MKDO403 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- When fighting Onaga in Puzzle Kombat, the same handicap that applies to using him applies to fighting against him: his wings. As his wings will cover up a good portion of his play field, you can not be too sure what combos he is building up. He'll rarely get to use his super, as his super meter builds up very slowly. Other than that, he is fought like any other Puzzle Fighter. ========================================================================== | UNLOCKING ONAGA AS PLAYABLE | MKDO500 | ========================================================================== Currently Onaga is unavailable to be playable outside of a cheat device such as Codebreaker or Action Replay. I used Codebreaker kodes to play as Onaga. For PS2, these only work with the normal version of MK:D, not the Premium Package. No Gameshark kodes exist, officially anyway. Note: These codes will enable Onaga for both Arcade and Puzzle modes. If a technique to officially unlock Onaga without a cheat device, this guide will be updated with that information immediately. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | GAMECUBE | MKDO501 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACTION REPLAY MAX: ================== Master Kode (Must Be On) ------------------------ H6D7-C7JW-ZPHY3 1W3Z-V038-8W1TJ Player 1 Always Onaga --------------------- 8U2R-X5FG-FEAXD CFYE-94Y7-P62YN Player 2 Always Onaga --------------------- HW85-0VP7-BEJFV YKFW-X7XK-N5KUU -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | PLAYSTATION2 | MKDO502 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- CODEBREAKER: ============ Master Kode (Must Be On) ------------------------ B4336FA9 4DFEFB79 352BA795 CF074F86 6F456B84 D6D359A2 E3956DBB 6FABD13F Player 1 Always Onaga --------------------- 0C5CCBD7 97917575 Player 2 Always Onaga --------------------- B485EAF4 B477ED42 ..Or.. Is Onaga playable? A. We don't know yet. It's possible. For now you can use a Cheat Device. Because of his deal with the ending, I believe if he is playable, he is only playable in 2-player mode. Although, Goro and Noob in MK4 were playable in 1-player and they didn't have endings either. 2. Is there an easy way to beat Onaga? A. Just collect the Kamidogu, and hit him while he's stunned. 3. Is he related to the mystery Koffin WQ? A. He might be. Afterall he only needs one koffin, he does not have a storyboard, bio, alt costume or alt bio. 4. Can Onaga perform stage deaths? A. Yes he can... and he'll do it to you in the final battle of arcade mode if you're not carefull! 5. Can you perform a stage death on Onaga? A. As far as I know, yes. At least the cliff stage works. You can not perform the Dragon King's Temple stage death on him, at least in arcade mode. Some work, some don't. 6. What happens if you beat the game with him? A. It just goes to the credits, skipping any story-line ending. 7. What about the Production Art unlocked in koffins IQ and MN? A. Apperently Midway wrote a storyline ending for him. It seems they did not wind up programming it in, however. 8. Does Onaga have combos? A. No, he only has melee and special moves. He plays a lot like Goro, Kintaro, Motaro and Moloch from the previous games. 9. Can Onaga use the weapons found in arenas? A. Yes, and he can perform the combos related to them too. These are the only combos he can do, in fact. 10. Does Onaga have Fatalities or a Hara-Kiri? A. No, it just goes right to the "Onaga Wins" message if you win. However you can perform stage fatalites with him. 10. Do the Codebreaker codes to use him work online? (PS2 only) A. Yes they do. Surprise you online friends in both Arcade and Puzzle Kombat by using Onaga! 11. Where can I see pics for proof of him in arcade and Puzzle Kombat? A. I am now hosting them here: http://www.picturetrail.com/elranzer/ 13. Any other interesting facts about him? A. Yes I know of a few things... - If you play as Onaga, the load screen almost always shows Onaga render artwork. - Onaga has only one melee attack listed in his Move List. - Onaga only has Dragon Breath listed as a special move, the other special moves are not listed. Strange. - You can use CS to switch fighting styles. However, it just keeps cycling back to Dragon. - The Move List actually lists one combo (1,2) but it does not work. - His throw move does not work most of the time, but it does work. - Rumor has it that Raiden's ending in MK:DA shows a preliminary picture of Onaga. - Onaga's ending is the one of only three told in 1st-person perspective. ========================================================================== | FINAL WORDS | MKDO700 | ========================================================================== These are some last thoughts involving credit where credit is due. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | THANKS | MKDO701 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Midway: for bringing us the sixth Mortal Kombat, a great game - Gnome Foundation: Gedit is a powerful tool for writing FAQs - Hori: for providing the best controller for a Gamecube fighting game - Codebreakers: for providing the necesary code to play as Onaga - CjayC and GameFAQs: for hosting this FAQ for you to read - The Kontributors: for reasons below -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | CONTACTING ME | MKDO702 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to submit new information, inform me of typos or wrong information, or anything else that would fit here, please don't hesitate to email me using the address at the top of this FAQ.
