He's got 5 laps to go, old tires, and John Andretti coming up quick. Can you keep him out front for just a few more miles? Can you conserve fuel or increase your lead enough so that he gets win #2? Key: This is the part I'm having trouble at. Try to release the gas once in the while and try to block Bobby Labonte from passing you while doing it too. EMAIL FROM GOLDENFOXX-------- Hey, just took a look at your strategy guide for NT03 on GameWinners.com. First off, thanks for getting a guide up so quickly (I was beginning to think no one was going to post one anytime soon). Anyway, I was reading to see what you had to say about getting through the Pay at the Pump lightning challenge, and from what I was reading you seem to be having a similar amount of problem as to what I did. The only reason I wanted a guide about this time last week was just because I had spent two complete days trying to get through that challenge unsuccessfully. I have now done it three times once on the PS2 and twice on the X-Box (had a small problem where I accidentally saved over my previous saved slot). I’ve pretty much figured out a decent strategy for this challenge if you’re still having trouble. First off, compete with stability control on. With it off, you’ll almost always get into the corners approaching 190mph, and that wastes gas. With stability on, you’ll do good to get it up to 180mph before going into turn one. Try and ride the line around turn one each of the first three or so laps Bobby Labonte will probably catch you either coming off turn four at the end of your first full lap or on the backstretch of the second lap. Try and stay low and make anyone who tries to pass you do it on the high side. Then smack them HARD into the wall. Hopefully you can knock him enough out of control that he’ll take out a Marlin, Gordon, and Harvick who almost always seem to lurk right behind him. By the next to last lap you’ll probably have both Bobby and Marlin trying to get around you on the low side. Go as slow as you have to around turn one without letting them by, then again, smack them on the backstretch. Hopefully, you’ll have a decent lead coming to the line for the white flag. If you’ve been hugging the line and slowing down enough to let some cars catch you JUST so you could knock them around, you shouldn’t run out of gas until entering turn three. Try and knock SOMEONE loose on the backstretch first, and then glue yourself to the inside white line all the way around. Dale Jr, Marlin, or Michael Waltrip always seems to catch up at this point, but you can pretty easily hold them off at even 60-70 mph without gas. If they try to pass, just knock tap them as soon as you see their front quarterpanel, and then swerve up to block whoever might be trying to pass high after doing so. It sounds complicated but once you’ve done it two or three times it starts to become a science. If there’s any way to do this challenge WITHOUT intentionally knocking the stink out of another driver, I’d be glad to know what it is. But it’s all about drifting through turn 1 on each lap, hugging the line off turn 4 on each lap, and making the other cars pass on the high side. And make sure when you do try and wreck someone that you don’t just nudge them, because they’ll just correct and pass you, and once a car passes you on this challenge you AREN’T going to catch them. So when you smack someone, make it count. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Star Studded (Legend) The All-Star Lowe's Motor Speedway Terry Labonte Terry Labonte won his 2nd All-Star race in 1999. To do it, he had to outrace Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte, and Tony Stewart. Now's your chance to do the same. Key: Get some good laps and try to catch Bobby Labonte's draft and then pass him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Worst to First (Legend) The All-Star Lowe's Motor Speedway Ryan Newman In the 2002 All-Star race, Ryan Newman won the qualifying event and then worked his way up from last to first place. With 5 laps to go, hold off Dale Jr. and finish 1st! Key: Block and stay out in the front. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Enough, Already! (Legend) UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sterling Marlin Sterling Marlin almost started 2002 with 2 wins, but late race cautions prevented that. This time help Sterling get around Jeremy Mayfield and into first place, so he can get the win. Key: Draft and make the pass. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'll Remember This! (Legend) Food City 500 Bristol Motor Speedway Kurt Busch Kurt Busch won the 2002 Food City 500 at Bristol with a little bit of pit strategy. On old tires, you've got 5 laps to get around Jimmy Spencer and hold off Ricky Rudd for win #1! Key: Get some good lap time and pass Jimmy Spencer, but you have to stay in front and block the inside line to keep Rudd or someone else from passing you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Burn Baby, Burn (Legend) MBNA America 500 Atlanta Motor Speedway Kevin Harvick Win #1 for Kevin Harvick came at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in spectacular fashion. It was his 3rd career start. Relive that frantic last lap and hold off Jeff Gordon for the victory. Key: Stay out in front and block. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Happy Birthday (Legend) Brickyard 400 Indianapolis Motor Speedway Jeff Gordon A day after his 30th birthday, Jeff Gordon won his 3rd Brickyard 400. There are 3 laps to go and Sterling Marlin is right behind you. Get Jeff Gordon into victory lane. Key: Stay out in the front and get some good lap time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We're Back! (Legend) Pocono 500 Pocono Raceway Ricky Rudd After a 2 year break, Ricky Rudd found his way back to victory lane at Pocono in 2001. You have 5 laps to pass his teammate Dale Jarrett and hang on for the win. Key: Get some good laps and beat Dale Jarrett, the others will come soon and you'd have to try to stay out in the front. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Freedom - Part 2 (Legend) Homestead 400 Homestead-Miami Speedway Casey Atwood In the closing laps of the 2001 Homestead-Miami race, Casey Atwood was passed by Bill Elliott and finished 2nd. See if you can change history and get Casey his first win. Key: Pass and stay out in the front, block if you have to. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Smokin' (Legend) The All-Star Open Lowe's Motor Speedway Johnny Benson Johnny Benson won the 2001 All-Star Open after Ryan Newman's engine blew with 2 laps to go. This time, Ryan's motor will hold together and you need to pass him for the win. Key: Get some good lap time and pass Newman to get the win. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ============================================================================== Thunder Plates ============================================================================== You can get at least 2 or 1 card from completing a Lightning Challenge in Race Modes option. Just pick a challenge and accomplish it to get a card or two, and it can be a Legend driver, Busch driver, Sponsor, or Paint Scheme. If you go in the Quick Race mode and when you go pick a driver, tilt your control stick to the left or right and you'll see that there are other paintjobs you can race with, some has the Muppets or the Looney Tunes on them. Half of the paintjobs on there are locked and the only way to get them is if you win at a track with a driver (say like..Ken Schrader) and you will get a new paintjob (it can be his Halloween scheme or something else). One thing is that you can't win at the same track with the same driver or else you won't get a new paintjob, but YOU CAN go to the same track at a DIFFERENT TIME (Bristol day and night, etc.) Here is the list of Thunder Plates in order from page 1 to 19, left to right: Page 1-------------(Qualifying Position)(Rookie/Veteran/Legend) Atlanta Bristol California Chicagoland Darlington Daytona Dover Homestead-Miami Indianapolis Page 2-------------(Qualifying Position) Infineon Kansas Las Vegas Lowe's Martinsville Michigan New Hampshire North Carolina Phoenix Page 3-------------(Qualifying Position) Pocono Richmond Talladega Texas Watkins Atlanta (Night) California (Night) Chicagoland (Night) Darlington (Night) Page 4------------- Daytona Road Course Dover (Night) Homestead (Night) Infineon (Night) Kansas (Night) Las Vegas (Night) Martinsville (Night) Michigan (Night) Rockingham (Night) Page 5------------- Pocono (Night) Richmond (Day) Talladega (Night) Talladega Road Course Tiburon Int'l Speedway Texas Road Course Watkins Glen (Night) The Shootout The All-Star Page 6-------------(Busch Drivers) Greg Biffle Jeff Purvis Shane Hall Jamie McMurray Mike McLaughlin Michael Waltrip Kasey Kahne Scott Wimmer Jay Sauter Page 7-------------(Busch Drivers) James Finch Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jeff Burton Chad Chaffin Tim Sauter Coy Gibbs Ron Hornaday Kevin Harvick Dan Pardus Page 8-------------(Busch and Legend Drivers) Brian Vickers Ashton Lewis, Jr. Johnny Sauter Dale Earnhardt Richard Petty Benny Parsons Bobby Allison Junior Johnson Tiny Lund Page 9-------------(Legend, Fantasy and Paint Schemes) Alan Kulwicki Elmo Langley Cale Yarborough Kitt Paint Fantasy Drivers #43 Paint Scheme #1 #43 Paint Scheme #2 #43 Paint Scheme #3 Page 10------------(Cont.) #43 Paint Scheme #4 #43 Paint Scheme #5 #43 Paint Scheme #6 #10 Paint Scheme #1 #10 Paint Scheme #2 #10 Paint Scheme #3 #10 Paint Scheme #4 #10 Paint Scheme #5 #10 Paint Scheme #6 Page 11------------(Cont.) #10 Paint Scheme #7 #99 Paint Scheme #1 #99 Paint Scheme #2 #22 Paint Scheme #1 #22 Paint Scheme #2 #97 Paint Scheme #1 #97 Paint Scheme #2 #97 Paint Scheme #3 #9 Paint Scheme #1 Page 12------------(Cont.) #24 Paint Scheme #1 #24 Paint Scheme #2 #24 Paint Scheme #3 #24 Paint Scheme #4 #24 Paint Scheme #5 #31 Paint Scheme #1 #30 Paint Scheme #1 #30 Paint Scheme #2 #55 Paint Scheme #1 Page 13------------(Cont.) #55 Paint Scheme #2 #55 Paint Scheme #3 #29 Paint Scheme #1 #29 Paint Scheme #2 #29 Paint Scheme #3 #29 Paint Scheme #4 #88 Paint Scheme #1 #88 Paint Scheme #2 #48 Paint Scheme #1 Page 14------------(Cont.) #17 Paint Scheme #1 #17 Paint Scheme #2 #18 Paint Scheme #1 #18 Paint Scheme #2 #18 Paint Scheme #3 #18 Paint Scheme #4 #18 Paint Scheme #5 #18 Paint Scheme #6 #18 Paint Scheme #7 Page 15------------(Cont.) #18 Paint Scheme #8 #5 Paint Scheme #1 #5 Paint Scheme #2 #5 Paint Scheme #3 #6 Paint Scheme #1 #19 Paint Scheme #1 #25 Paint Scheme #1 #45 Paint Scheme #1 #45 Paint Scheme #2 Page 16------------(Cont.) #28 Paint Scheme #1 #21 Paint Scheme #1 #36 Paint Scheme #1 #36 Paint Scheme #2 #36 Paint Scheme #3 #36 Paint Scheme #4 #36 Paint Scheme #5 #36 Paint Scheme #6 #36 Paint Scheme #7 Page 17------------(Cont.) #36 Paint Scheme #8 #36 Paint Scheme #9 #36 Paint Scheme #10 #20 Paint Scheme #1 #20 Paint Scheme #2 #20 Paint Scheme #3 #20 Paint Scheme #4 #20 Paint Scheme #5 #2 Paint Scheme #1 Page 18------------ #15 Paint Scheme #1 All Pro Goodyear Outback Steakhouse Prestone CarQuest Wing Funnel Wave Page 19------------ Scorpion Swoosh Spikes Pointer Mixed Up Video: 1st Champ.
