They are story relevant and gameplay/relevant in some cases. The FAQ will talk about where you find the songs, when you find them, what they are used for, how to play them, and any requirements if any. It does not cover extra "out of game" songs that some FAQs are written for. While a little redundant considering how relatively minor the songs are (and that they can be referenced within the menu itself), the FAQ's purpose is to show the differences in control between the various versions of Ocarina of Time that have been released, and to serve as a reference tool for those who are interested in where/when/what the songs are. The release of the 3DS version can expect a lot of newcomers looking for said songs. The controls for the Nintendo 64 version, Gamecube port, Wii Virtual Console, and 3DS version are all noted. ============================================================================== TABLE OF CONTENTS [ToC] ============================================================================== Use Ctrl/Apple + F to skip to specific sections, simply search for the letters within the brackets listed below. 1.) Authorized Websites [ADS] ============================================================================== CONTROLS [CTR] ============================================================================== The controls for playing the Ocarina in game are simple. You equip it to one of the item slots, and when using it, you will go into a mode where you can push the C-buttons, as well as other buttons, to control it. The game's songs do not require you to change the pitch of the notes at all, so the FAQ will not go too in depth on buttons you do not need to worry about. As the game has come out on the Nintendo 64, Wii Virtual Console, and Gamecube, the respective controls are listed below. I will stick with the N64 controls for simplicity. Nintendo 64: UP C BUTTON = Up RIGHT C BUTTON = Right LEFT C BUTTON = Left DOWN C BUTTON = Down A BUTTON = A B BUTTON = Cancel CONTROL STICK = Change pitch Gamecube: C STICK UP = Up C STICK RIGHT = Right C STICK LEFT = Left C STICK DOWN = Down A BUTTON = A B Button = Cancel X BUTTON = Right Y BUTTON = Left Z Button = Up Wii (Virtual Console) -If using the Gamecube controller, it is the same controls as "Gamecube" -Classic Controller's right stick is used to substitute for the "C stick/C Directional Pad") The Notes: (N64/GC/Wii) Up = ^ Down = v Left = < Right = > A = A You can see where they correspond below: ============================================================================== UP ============================================================================== LEFT ======================= RIGHT ================================================ DOWN ======= A ================================================================ The Notes: (3DS) -The buttons on 3DS no longer use arrows, but instead have the corresponding button displayed. See below to where they correspond. -For those who played the originals: -A = Up -X = Left -Y = Right -R = Down -L = A The Notes are: L R Y X A (from lowest to highest) ====================================( A )===================================== ================================( X )========================================= ( Y ) ============================================================================== ( R ) ============================================================================== ( L ) These positions are shown when you enter the notes in the game anyway. No worries. ============================================================================== THE SONGS [SON] ============================================================================== @@ @ @ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @ @ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@ @ @ @@@ @ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @ @ @@ @ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @ The format is as follows: NAME OF SONG Notes: How to play the Song Where: Where do you find/learn it When: When can you find/learn it What: What does the song do? Pull out the Ocarina, and she will teach you the song. What: It is required to acquire EPONA as Adult Link. It also is used to call for EPONA when out on HYRULE FIELD. It can also be used to get milk from the various cows all over the land (in caves, buildings, on the field, etc.) Simply play the song and have an empty bottle handy to get milk. [004] SUN'S SONG > v ^ > v ^ (RIGHT DOWN UP RIGHT DOWN UP) Notes: 3DS Y R A Y R A Where: GRAVEYARD, The large stone in the back (between the "Composer Brothers' graves"), play ZELDA'S LULLABY to break the stone and enter. Inside, kill the enemies in the room to unlock the door, and in the next room, avoid the ReDeads and head toward the back. Read the large tablet, and learn the song. When: When you first reach KAKARIKO VILLAGE (after acquiring ZELDA'S LULLABLY) What: A song that changes night to day and day to night instantly when played. It also stuns ReDeads, and is required to get a Piece of Heart from beneath another grave that has a lone ReDead (playing the song after killing the ReDead will reveal a chest). It can also stun Gibdos! (Mummy-like ReDeads, basically) The song is also used for the Frogs in Zora's river. [005] SONG OF TIME > A v > A v (RIGHT A DOWN RIGHT A DOWN) Notes: 3DS Y L R Y L R Where: Story Event, when the Ocarina of Time is acquired, the song comes with it in the events that play. When: After all three spiritual stones are acquired, head toward HYRULE CASTLE and watch the event, then dive and get the Ocarina of Time in the river. What: The song has more use in the sequel, MAJORA's MASK, but in this game is used as a story song to open the gate to the Master Sword. It can also be used to shift the locations of the various blue boxes that are encountered in dungeons throughout Ocarina of Time. The Song is also used for the Frogs in Zora's river. When: As Adult Link, enter the Windmill Hut and talk to the man, who will speak of a boy with an Ocarina. Pull out the Ocarina in front of him, and he will teach you the song after a brief rant! What: The song is used to drain the well of the water inside of it (as Young Link), in order to get the Lens of Truth (play the song as Young Link inside the Windmill). It can also be used to reveal hidden grottos that the Stone/Shard of Agony detects nearby. The song is also used to receive a Piece of Heart from the Frogs in Zora's river. If you play this in the dried up Oasis near the Desert Colossus, it will create an outdoor Fairy Fountain! If you play this right before using the Lens of Truth, no magic is consumed while it's raining! [013] SCARECROW'S SONG Notes: Vary Where: Lake Hylia When: Anytime, as Young Link, talk to the lower Scarecrow, and play eight notes for him. (It can be all one button, or a song of your choosing! It needs to contain at least two different notes when you play it. What: You can call "Pierre", the wandering scarecrow, to certain locations throughout Hyrule. He can be hook/longshotted onto, and is required for several Gold Skulltulas, as well as Pieces of Heart. ============================================================================== CLOSING/CREDITS/CONTACT INFORMATION [CCC] ============================================================================== Short and simple, but I'm taking suggestions if there is anything else that needs to be added. If you want to help, I have a few things I may want to add: For instance, all locations of where "Zelda's Lullaby" can be played, or every place a block that can be moved by the "Song of Time" is, that would be helpful, or all Grottos that require the "Song of Storms" All Scarecrow Locations would be nice too. It is a fairly ambitious project, but it would add a lot to people wanting more specific information regarding the songs! It would be useful indeed. I'll be sure to credit you of course! If you have any other ideas, please email me! Also, any errors you see, or anything even as small as a typo, please email me! I'll fix it as quickly as I can. Thanks for reading, cheers! -MKay CREDITS: Thanks to the reader for bothering to motivate me to write FAQs like this, even if they seem a little redundant and unecessary, I get emails of appreciation regardless...
