Done on a whim because I had a bored evening, and one can only take so much Advance Wars in a day :P At any rate, I noticed that of the FAQs on GameFaqs that nobody's covered this inane little piece of trivia, so I decided to give it a whirl. Questions, comments and the like can be addressed to me, Vaevictis, via email sent to vaevictis666 at hotmail dot com. Please quote Battle Maps in the subject line, or I'm likely to just leave it in the junk mail folder or wherever it ends up. WHAT'S NEW ---------- * Change Log 1.0 - Got last two maps from Special done, and final prices for all COs. Wow, now all that's left for me is S-Rank in the War Room, and Advance Campaign :) Man, AC scares me... I'm putting in a guess for Nell's price, as that's the only bit of info that I still lack. If/When I get Nell I'll correct the price if it turns out I'm wrong. 0.8 - Filled up the VS, 3P, and Special map cases - well, except for the last two maps from Special. Also, got prices on three COs and Advance Campaign. Next run through Campaign should net me the last of the COs gathered that way, then I presumably just need to buy them and Sturm and Nell will show up. 0.5 - Nothing new - this is the first version! I decided on 0.5 because I think I have about half of what I want in the FAQ added at the moment. COINS ----- * How to earn them What could be easier - Play the game. The better you do, the more coins you get. Note that coins are earned only in Campaign and War Room modes. No, theres no easy way to get them by playing yourself :( Coins are awarded more-or-less as follows, according to your achievements: Rank: S A B C D E Coins: 12 9-8 7-6 5-4 3 2-1 So to answer your question, yes, there is a division in the ranks, and you get 12 coins for the S, 9 for a high A, 8 for a low A, etc... Fastest way to get them thar coins is to play Spann Island in the War Room, playing as Sami, using the method detailed in kikutaro's War Room S-Rank Guide - base cap in 7 days. This gives a quick 12 coins, and you only need to do it 66 times straight to be able to buy all the maps :P. * How to spend them Well, ok, I'll admit it. It's always so much easier to spend your cash than to make it in the first place, isn't it? Spending your hard-earned cash is as easy as popping into the Battle Maps area, and handing them over to Hachi for some loot :) THE GOODS --------- * Summary Below lies The Chart, detailing the contents of all 6 map cases, along with pricing information for each map, as well as the number of Cities, Bases, Airports, and Ports on the map. I'm leaving out number of COs, because all the maps have 2, excepting 3P Vs. and the last 4 War Room maps (with three) and 4P Vs. maps (which have four). More for clarity than anything else (ie if you want to find a map with just ground combat, or one with naval and no air), I'm omitting all 0 values from the list, except for cities - there are two maps with no buildings whatsoever, I'm just listing them 0 so I know I've got them :) Total cost of all maps: 792 coins Total cost of all CO's: 490 coins Total num coins needed: 1282 coins - that's 107 S-Rank missions. * The Store When you start out, the Special and Vs map cases are unavailable to you directly, so Hachi's inventory can seem somewhat limited. Hachi will sell you 2 maps from every Map Case you haven't filled, in strict order - the two available maps are the two highest up on the list, shown in VS mode by ????. Note that if you purchase the 2nd map for a given mode, leave, and return, you'll still be offered the 2 highest ???? maps on the list (ie you don't need to purchase both Moji Island and Pivot Isle before Hachi will offer you Kita Straight and Ridge Island - if you buy Pivot he'll next offer both Moji and Kita. After all the maps, Hachi offers two extra Map Cases, VS and Special, as well as Advance Campaign when you unlock it. Any COs you've unlocked from the Campaign mode are offered at the very top. Guess they don't want you to miss them :P * Chart /--------------+----------------+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----\ | Map Case | Map Name | $$$ |City |Base | Air | Sea | \--------------+----------------+-----/ HACHI'S QUOTES -------------- * Hello Quotes The first seven quotes are tutorialish quotes, and show up in order as you visit Battle Maps. After that, all but the first one seem to show up at random. Press START to skip the message, or B to leave Battle Maps in the middle of your little chat with Hachi. Each line represents one message window, each block represents a full chat, and the blank lines separate them. Oh, one last note - whenever your Advisor's name comes up, I've just stuck in <<>> instead. + Tutorial Come on in! Welcome to Battle Maps. If you've got Advance Wars coins, this is the place to spend 'em. Mostly I deal in maps. Once you own a map, you can fight on it, you see? Oh, and I also have map cases. You need a case to hold your Vs. Maps in. Let me explain... Well,, nah, just buy something. You'll figure it out. Whoa, hold up there. There's something else I need to tell you. New COs will become available after meeting certain game conditions. You'll have to figure out those conditions on your own, though. But if you stop by again, I might share a few secrets with you. Well, that's enough gabbing. Time for business. What do you need? I hear you're doing a good job. Don't forget to take a rest now and then. Have you been back to Field Training since you cleared it? All right, time for business. See anything you like? Oh, it's you again. Have you picked up a map case yet? Get one and you can increase your Vs. Map collection. So, come on! Buy something! Look who's here! Hey, listen. Even if you buy all the maps in stock, come back again. I'm always getting new stock. Go ahead and take a look at what I've got in today. What a beautiful day! Think I'll close up and... What? A customer? Don't you worry, I'm not going anywhere. Let's get down to business! Well, now! You're back again! That means you must've made some money in War Room or Campaign mode. What'll it be today? Hey! If you're coming in, come in and shut the door! By the way, which CO have you been using? Using the same CO over and over isn't very impressive. If you want to reach a higher score, you should try someone new. Enough of that, what'll it be today? + General Come on in! Hey, have you cleared the Campaign Mode? There's more to it than just clearing it once, you know. Rumor has it that there's another, harder campaign... Ah, I'm talking too much! Are you going to buy anything today? What do you need now Ne... Oh, you're not... Um... What do you want? Came back eh? I've got everything you need. + CO Hey there, soldier! By the way, which CO have you been using? Just between me and you, there's a way you can enlist new COs. You just have to... Well, actually, I can't tell you! You may learn something in the Campaign Mode, though. So, you need anything? Hey! It's my favorite soldier! Are you getting the most out of your special CO power? Andy's power is to repair units and restore HP, right? His units' overall power also grows on the day he uses Hyper Repair! So, you can use Andy's power to attack with more success, too! Now, to the business at hand! You are buying something, right? Welcome! Have you ever tried using Sami as your CO? Do you think she's difficult to use or that she's a weak CO? That's ridiculous! You DO know that her infantry and mech units capture bases faster than other COs' units do, don't you? Plus, her troop transports can move farther than other COs' transports! When it comes to capturing the enemy's HQ, Sami's the best! Sure, she's a bit weak in direct combat, but there's nothing wrong with her long distance firepower. Try luring the enemy into range with her foot soldiers and then blast them from a distance! Oh yeah, and another thing. Sami's CO power builds up quickly. You should use it as often as you can! I've done it again! Chatting when I should be selling! Bad for business! So, what's it going to be? Start buying stuff, will you? Look who's here! Tell me, have you been using Max? He's strong as an ox, but kind of clumsy! If you're looking to get ahead with him, you've got to be strategic. Max is pretty ineffective at anything but direct attacks. If you try battling in a confined area you'll get whipped! With Max, you need some wide, open space. You know, when I was younger... Ahh, forget those old stories. What can I get for you today? Hello, there! You winning? How much do you know about Blue Moon CO Olaf? If you're thinking that all he can do is make it snow, you're dead wrong! Olaf is a very well-balanced CO with no real weaknesses! He can battle anywhere, and that makes him a dangerous enemy. Well, OK, he's not so good in the rain. You should try using him occasionally. I guarantee he'll show you something. Why, I remember when he used to... Oops! Getting sidetracked again. All right, back to business! Well, if it isn't Advisor <<>>! Do you know the Yellow Comet CO, Kanbei? I can't stand him or his troops! Direct attacks, distance attacks... his forces are good at everything! Their one weak point is that they're so darn expensive. Well, that's enough about him. Let's get down to business! Come on in! Say, have you heard much about Yellow Comet's little genius, Sonja? To be honest, I think she's tough to manage. It's because her strengths arent as easily recognizable as other COs. For some reason, she's unlucky, and her troops don't always do as much damage as they should. I guess the best time to use her is when Fog of War is involved. Enough about Sonja! Let's talk business! Hey there! It's Advisor <<>>! Have you ever heard of a CO named Eagle? He's tops in the air, but weak at sea. All you know is that his CO power lets him attack twice in one day? You need more intel than that, my friend. I'm sure that you know that air units use fuel constantly. Well, Eagle's air units use less than others. That's something you should try and remember. Pretty good info, don't you think? Now, show your appreciation and buy something! Hey, <<>>! Nice to see you again. Are you familiar with a CO named Drake? He's a genius at sea, but he has trouble in the air. He's a real problem because his CO power causes damage to all enemy units. Oh, and another thing: it rains a lot when he's around. All that rain can get really annoying. Well, enough about Drake. It's time for business. * Goodbye Quotes If you buy something and leave, you are just given a save prompt. Leave without buying something, and get one of these fun messages! Come back again! Don't be discouraged! Keep up the good work! Good Luck! Take a bath! Be sure to wash your face!
