CALL OF DUTY: FINEST HOUR (Playstation 2) WEAPONS, VEHICLES, AND ALLIES GUIDE VERSION 1.5 Copyright 2005 ------------------Introduction------------------- The purpose of this guide is to help you understand and know the weapons and your Allies of Call of Duty: Finest Hour better. I have tried to make it as accurate as possible so most of the info should be right. ----------------------Disclaimer---------------------- This guide can only be used for helping you beat the game. That's why there will always be people on your side to help you fight. There are four different types of them. Please note that all your allies are immune from bullets fired by you, even if there is a friendly fire blocker, you will just be wasting ammo. Here I will explain them in detail: Type 1: These guys look all the same, and are probably privates. They do not have a name, and the just run around the battlefield and kill germans and then get killed themselves. They'll help you out a little bit. Type 2: These people have a name and rank which is written above their heads during game play. They have health as well and you can tell how much they have left by the color of the letters of their name over their heads: Green: Good health Yellow: Medium Health Red: Low Health or dead They'll help you kill enemies but are not that important, so don't waste your precious health packs on them. Type 3: These people have a name and rank and are vital for you to complete the level (ex: Sgt: Bilinki, Sgt. Dehart). They have their own health meter on the top right corner of the screen, and if they die you fail the mission. These are the only people you should use health packs on. Sometimes it's a tank and not a person but the concept is the same (ex: T34 tank, M12, Scoop Sherman). Type 4: This is the best kind of ally, because they are invincible (Cpl. Church, Sgt. Starkey)! The color of their name label will turn red as they take damage, but they never actually die unless the game tells them to (ex: Sgt: Puskov). Never use health packs on them. ---------------------Damage Multipliers--------------------------------------- Here is some info on how much damage done by a weapon will change depending on where you hit the enemy: Enemy Soldiers: Head:3x Upper Torso: 1.5x Lower Torso/Abdomen: 1x Legs and Arms: 0.75x Hands and feet: 0.5x *All german soldiers in this game have 40 to 180 health, towards 40 in the first levels and towards 180 in the last. To help you understand these numbers, lets say you are up against a german with 180 health and you have your BAR. You hit his upper torso, and since the BAR does 60 damage regular (refer to weapon section), it would do 90 damage as it is multiplied by 1.5. So if you hit his upper torso or head the next shot it will kill him. Otherwise you will have to hit a third time. Tanks: Back and Top: 1x Side: 0.75x Front: 0.5x Hits from bullets: 0x **This multiplier applies to explosives only. All tanks in the game are bulletproof. The front is armored the heaviest, so hitting does the least damage. I'm not sure how much health enemy tanks have. ----------------------Weapons Listing -------------------- SMGs Thompson BAR M3A1 Sten MP 40 PPSh RIFLES Springfield '03 M1 Garand Lee-Enfield Kar98 Gewher 43 Mosin-Nagant Mosin-Nagant Sniper MACHINE GUNS Browning .30 caliber MG42 Bren LMG DPM Mounted MG42 .50 caliber MG Flak 38 ANTI-TANK Panzerschreck Flak 88 (enemy only) EXPLOSIVES Mark 2 Grenade Sticky Bomb RDG 33 Grenade Steilhandgranate Teller Mine C4 Sticky Bear Kaiser Bear TANKS M4 Sherman T34 Battle Tank Panzer IV (enemy only) King Tiger (enemy only) VEHICLES: Jeep ACP/ Half Track (enemy only) ------------------------Weapons In Depth Guide--------------------------- This section will give you more information on the details of the weapons, such as where you can obtain them, what country it's from and it's magazine size etc. ---Sub Machine Guns--- THOMPSON Name: Thompson Submachine Gun, Thompson Side: America Campaign: American Description: Overall, a pretty good weapon for short range combat. Shoots very fast, has high damage for a SMG, and dependable. Don't use it for medium range unless you're prone as it has some recoil and is not very accurate. Still use it whenever you can get it. Damage: 45 ROF: 600rpm Clip: 30 Max Ammo: 240 Rating: 6.3 BAR Name: Browning Automatic Rifle, BAR Side: America Campaign: American Description: Even though the game considers this weapon as a machine gun, I personally think it has more traits of a SMG, as it can melee, has no bipod, has a small magazine, and you can use the iron sight w/o the bipod. It's the best SMG in the game as it has high damage, is accurate, and has a fast rate of fire. Try to use it as much as possible. Damage: 60 ROF: 500rpm Clip: 20 Max Ammo: 220 Rating: 6.5 M3A1 Name: M3A1, "Grease Gun" Side: America Campaign: American Description: The worst gun in the game! It does as much damage as the Thompson, has the same mag clip, but has terrible recoil, shoots slower, and is very inaccurate. Also, loads slower than the Thompson. In the one level where you get to use it, I suggest switching for a MP 40. Damage: 45 ROF: 400rpm Clip: 30 Max Ammo: 240 Rating: 5.2 STEN Name: Sten Mark II, Sten Side: England Campaign: British Description: Theoretically, it's supposed to be similar to the MP 40, as it fires the exact type of ammo from the exact same type of magazine. Fact is, in this game it's much worse, and one of the worst guns in the game. It has low damage, bad recoil, bad accuracy, and loads slowly. Trade it for a MP 40 ASAP. Damage: 34 ROF: 500rpm Clip: 32 Max Ammo: 242 Rating: 5.3 MP 40 Name: Maschinen Pistole 1940 (German for Machine Pistol), MP40 Side: Germany Campaign: Russian, British, American Description: The most commonly used gun in the game, as you can obtain it in every single level except for the "A Desert Ride" level. A decent SMG, unless you have access to the BAR or Thompson. Virtually no recoil, accurate over long distances, and loads quickly as well. Also, about ½ the Germans in the game use it so ammo is easy to find. It's major drawback is that the bullets do low damage Damage: 34 ROF: 500rpm Clip: 32 Max Ammo: 192 Rating: 6.1 PPSH Name: Pistolet Pulemet Shpagin, "Pah-pah-shah", "Shpagin", "Burp Gun", PPSh Side: Soviet Union Campaign: Russian Description: This gun has some good and bad parts to it. The good parts are that is shoots extremely fast, and it has a huge magazine. What's bad about it is that it has high recoil, is weak, and is not accurate at all. Use it for close range combat. Otherwise, use something else. Damage: 34 ROF: 900rpm Clip: 71 Max Ammo: 284 Rating: 6.0 ---Rifles--- SPRINGFIELD '03 Name: Springfield 1903 Side: America Campaign: ??? Description: It's still a mystery where this gun is located, but I assume you can find it in the multiplayer part of the game. As far as I know it functions similarly to the Mosin-Nagant Sniper, except the crosshairs touch in the middle of the scope. It is bolt action, and loads one round at a time; so only use it for long range sniping. Damage: 85 ROF: 30 rpm Clip: 5 Max Ammo: ??? Rating: 5.8 M1 GARAND Name: M1 Garand Side: America Campaign: American Description: Overall, a dependable semi-automatic rifle. It's one of the best rifles in the game, as it's accurate, has almost no recoil, and loads quickly. The bad part about it is that it can't be loaded until you fire out all 8 rounds. Damage: 80 ROF: 70 rpm Clip: 8 Max Ammo: 128 Rating: 6.4 LEE-ENFIELD Name: Lee-Enfield, Enfield Side: England Campaign: British Description: Better than the Kar98, as it has twice the magazine size, but worse than the G43, as it shoots slower due to its bolt-action mechanism. Still, it is still a decent rifle, and use it to take out enemies long range. Damage: 75 ROF: 30rpm Clip: 10 Max Ammo:??? Rating: 6.2 KAR98 Name: Karabiner 89k, Kar98 Side: Germany Campaign: Russian, British, American Description: A commonly found weapon, and not a good one. It has a small magazine, and shoots slowly as it is bolt-action. The only good parts are that is pretty strong, and is accurate. Only use one if you run out of ammo for both of you weapons. Damage: 75 ROF: 30rpm Clip: 5 Max Ammo: 105 Rating: 6.0 GEWEHR 43 Name: Gewehr 1943 (German for "gun"), G43 Side: Germany Campaign: American Description: The best rifle in the game. It's very accurate, long range, no recoil, semi-automatic, holds a good 10 rounds, loads quickly, pretty high damage, and can be loaded in the middle of a clip. Unfortunately, you only can use it in the last 3 levels of the game. Damage: 75 ROF: 60rpm Clip: 10 Max Ammo: 110 Rating: 6.7 MOSIN-NAGANT Name: Mosin-Nagant (Named after Sergei Ivanovich Mosin, Leon Nagant) Side: Soviet Union Campaign: Russian: Description: A decent but not excellent rifle. It does lots of damage but fires slowly as it is a bolt-action rifle and has a small magazine. Still better than the Kar98, though. Use it for long-range combat. Damage: 90 ROF: 30 rpm Clip: 5 Max Ammo: 105 Rating: 6.4 MOSIN-NAGANT SNIPER Name: Scoped Mosin-Nagant, Mosin Nagant Sniper Rifle (Named after Sergei Ivanovich Mosin, Leon Nagant), Nagant Sniper Side: Soviet Union Campaign: Russian Description: A Mosin-Nagant rifle with a 4x scope. It is more accurate than the Gewehr 43, as the crosshairs terminate at a close distance and it's very powerful. Unless it's sniping, don't use it as this weapon loads one bullet at a time, which takes about 8 seconds. Damage: 90 ROF: 30rpm Clip: 5 Max ammo: 105 Rating: 5.8 ---Machine Guns--- BROWNING .30 CALIBER Name: Browning .30 Caliber, M2 Browning, M1919A6 Side: America Campaign: American Description: A powerful machine gun that is accurate and has a good rate of fire. I suggest using it when you're not moving, as then you can get prone and mount the bipod. Otherwise, it isn't too accurate, as you cannot use the iron sight unless the bipod is deployed, due to its weight. Also, it takes a while to load. Damage: 85 ROF: 500rpm Clip: 100 (For some reason in the game, it says that there's 99 rounds loaded, but after you fire the first round it stills says 99, indicating that it holds 100 rounds. Also, loading it will take away 100 rounds from the unloaded ammo.) Max Ammo: 400 Rating: 7.4 MG42 Name: Maschinen Gewehr 1942 (German for "Machine Gun"), MG42 Side: Germany Campaign: Russian, American Description: Like the Browning .30 caliber, you can't use the iron sight unless the bipod is deployed. I prefer this gun over the Browning, even though it's slightly less accurate, the bullets do a lot less damage and the clip size is smaller, its extremely fast rate of fire makes up for it. Use it when you're prone and not moving, to get the most out of it. The MG42 is a rare gun to find, as you can only get it in 3 levels, and ammo is also scarce. Damage: 55 ROF: 1,500rpm Clip: 57 Max Ammo: 342 Rating: 7.3 BREN LMG Name: Bren Light Machine Gun, Brno-Enfield, Bren Side: England Campaign: British Description: Unlike the heavier MG's, the iron sight can be used without the use of the bipod. It has a small magazine for a machine gun, which can be annoying, but it is powerful and accurate. You can only get one when one of your fellow British soldiers dies. What's weird is that the magazine is on top of the gun, which is somewhat annoying. Damage: 80 ROF: 500rpm Clip: 30 Max Ammo: ??? Rating: 7.0 DPM Name: DP28, Degtyaryova Pakhotnyi, DP Side: Soviet Union Campaign: Russian Description: Like the Bren you can always use this gun's iron sight. It does have a weird drum that goes on top, but doesn't really block your view. I prefer this gun more than the Bren as it has a larger clip and loads faster. Use this gun whenever you can, as it is the best MG in the game! Damage: 70 ROF: 500rpm Clip: 47 Max Ammo: 235 Rating:7.5 MOUNTED MG42 Name: Maschinen Gewehr 1942 (German for "Machine Gun"), MG42 Side: Germany Campaign: Russian, British, American Description: A MG42 mounted on a tripod. You'll find these often, and always use them, as you save ammo, and the gun is very powerful! It never needs to reload, and you have infinite ammo. The only downside to this is that you can't turn 360 degrees, making you vulnerable to Germans from behind and also to grenades and panzerschrecks. Damage: 55 ROF: 1,500rpm Clip: Infinite Max Ammo: Infinite Rating: 8.2 MOUNTED .50 CALIBER MG Name: .50 Caliber machine gun Side: England Campaign: British Description: You get to use this gun in one level, and it is the machine gun mounted on the back of a British Jeep. I would prefer to have used an MG42. This gun shoots slower than it, and is harder to aim. Damage: ??? ROF: 500rpm Clip: Infinite Max Ammo: Infinite Rating: 8.0 FLAK 38 Name: Flak 38, Anti-Aircraft Gun, AA Gun Side: Germany Campaign: American Description: A mounted anti-aircraft machine gun. It has 4 separate barrels, so it can shoot very fast. Also, it is accurate over long distances, has 360 degrees turning, and the armor reduces the damage done by bullets. The best machine gun in the game! Unfortunately, you can only use it to shoot planes in the last part of the last level. Damage: ??? ROF: 1,800 rpm Clip: Infinite Max Ammo: Infinite Rating: 8.8 ---Anti-Tank --- PANZERSCHRECK Name: RPzB 43 Rachenbuschen Panzerschreck, Panzerschreck (German for "Tank Terror") Side: Germany Campaign: Russian, American Description: Unless you're using it on tanks, there is almost no point of carrying this weapon around and taking up a weapon space. In most levels where you use it, there is little ammo for it. It loads so slowly which is annoying, and it also doesn't shoot far so if you're shooting long range, consider aiming it higher than the target. Damage: 300 ROF: 12rpm max Blast Radius: medium Max Ammo: 11 Rating: 5.5 (except for tank and MG nest shooting) FLAK 88 Name: Flak 88 Side: Germany Campign: none (enemy weapon only (appears in Russian and American campaigns) Description: An anti-tank cannon, it fires powerful rounds fairly quickly and is bulletproof. You only face it when you're in a tank. Since it will blow up in one cannon shot, always take it out first over tanks as it can do just as much damage! ---Explosives--- Mark II GRENADE Name: Mark II Fragmentation Grenade, Mark II Frag Grenade Side: America Campaign: British, American Description: Good grenade for anti-infantry. It has a large blast radius from the fragments, and kills enemies on contact. Throws accurately, and throws quickly as well. Damage: very high Range: Medium Blast Radius: Large Max Ammo: 9 STICKY BOMB Name: sticky bomb, ST74 Side: England Campaign: British Description: A useful grenade as it sticks to anything it hits, making it useful on tanks. Has a decent blast radius, and looks like a black sphere with a stick attached. What's funny is that if you throw it at a german, he'll try to get it off but it always stays stuck until it explodes. Damage: Very, very high Range: Medium Blast Radius: medium Max Ammo: 9 RGD-33 Name: RGD-33 Stick Grenade, RGD-33 Side: Soviet Union Campaign: Russian Description: Looks like the stielhandgranate, and functions similarly to the Mark II Frag, but I prefer the Mark II Frag grenade than the Russian fragmentation grenade as it is thrown more accurately and throws faster. The RGD-33, is decent enough, though. Damage: very high Range: Medium Blast Radius: Large Max Ammo: 9 STIELHANDGRANATE Name: "Potato Masher", Stielhandgranate Side: Germany Campaign: Russian, British, American Description: This grenade uses a large explosive charge rather than fragments for damage, so it is stronger but has a smaller blast radius. Also does some damage to armored vehicles as well. It is usually not thrown accurately in the game. Damage: very, very high Range: medium-long Blast Radius: medium Max Ammo: 9 TELLER MINE Name: Teller Mine Side: Germany Campaign: British Description: A powerful antitank landmine. What's historically inaccurate is that in real life, it needs hundreds of pounds of pressure to make it explode, so infantry can't trigger it. But in his game anything can, including bullets, explosives, vehicles, and people. In the one level here you use it, I suggest using the sticky bomb to take out the panzers instead. Damage: 500 Range: very short Blast Radius: very large Max ammo: 3 C4 Name: C4 charge Side:??? Campaign: British, American Description: You can't plant these explosive charges anywhere, as you can only use these for certain objectives to destroy stuff. Not an ordinary weapon. Damage: very, very, high Range: very short Blast Radius: very large STICKY BEAR Name: Sticky Bear Side: ??? Campaign: American Description: A fictitious reddish translucent teddy bear shaped grenade that sticks to anything it its thrown at. A little glitch put into the game. You only get it in the "Underground Passage" level, and it functions similarly to the sticky bomb. Damage: very, very high Range: medium-short Blast Radius: very large Max Ammo: 99 KAISER BEAR Name: Kaiser Bear Side: ??? Campaign: American Description: Like the sticky bear, it is a fictitious teddy bear shaped grenade that is a glitch put in the game. However, this grenade is tan colored, and instead of sticking, it will bounce endlessly until it explodes. You get it in the same level as the sticky bear. Damage: very, very, high Range: medium-long Blast Radius: very large Max Ammo: 99 ---Tanks--- M4 SHERMAN Name: Sherman Tank, M4 Sherman Side: America Campaign: American MG: Browning .30 caliber Cannon: 75 mm low velocity Description: Worse than the Russian Tank, which is historically accurate. It has a weaker cannon, weaker MG, weaker armor, and drives somewhat slower. Takes about 4 to 6 hits to destroy a Panzer. MG damage: 85 MG ROF: 500rpm Cannon damage: 150 Cannon ROF: 25rpm Max speed: 25mph (40km/hr) Armor: Medium T34 Name: T34 Battle Tank Side: Soviet Union Campaign: Russian MG: DTM Cannon: 85mm Description: A better tank than the American Sherman. It is larger though, so it's more likely to get hit. Also, the armor health tends to go away slower than the M4 Sherman. Takes at least 2 hits to destroy a Panzer, and the cannon loads a little bit slower. MG Damage: 100 MG: ROF: 500rpm Cannon Damage: 250 Cannon: ROF: 20rpm Max Speed: 34mph (55km/hr) Armor: Medium-High Panzer IV Name: Panzer IV (German for "tank") Side: Germany Campaign: none (enemy weapon only, appears in all campaigns) Description: The common enemy tank you'll see in many levels has high armor, powerful cannon and deadly MG fire. Look out for them! Cannon: 75 mm high velocity MG: 7.92 mm Armor: High King Tiger Name: Panzer VI (German for "tank"), King Tiger Tank Side: Germany Campaign: none (enemy weapon only, appears in American Campaign) Description: The deadliest tank in the game, it has an extremely powerful cannon, deadly MG fire, and the highest armor of all tanks at the time. You don't get to fight it in a tank, but still watch out for it in the last few levels! Armor: Very high ----------Vehicles----------------- JEEP Name: Jeep Side: England Campaign: British Description: A vehicle that you get to ride in during one of the British levels. You don't actually get to drive it, but you man the machine gun on the back. Max speed: ??? MG: .50 caliber (refer to MG section for details) Armor: none (you stand on top of it!) ACP/HALF TRACK Name: ACP/ Half Track Side: Germany Campaign: none (enemy weapon only, appears in Russian and British campaigns) Description: Both of them are similar armored vehicles, except the half track has tracks like tanks on its back wheels. They are bulletproof and are armed with a MG42, so be careful. They will catch on fire with a single explosive hit. Max Speed: ??? MG: Mounted MG42 Armor: Low --------------------------CREDITS--------------------------------------- Thanks to: -Me, for gathering the information and writing this guide -Spark Unlimited, for developing Call of Duty: Finest Hour -Activision, for publishing the game -Sony Computer Entertainment America, for making the Playstation 2 -GameFAQs.com, for posting my guide -You, for reading it! ----------End of File------------
