Introduction: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the world of Illegal Street Racing! Play underground mode and start at the bottom of the racing chain and work your way up towards the top spot. It's not as simple as it sounds, you must first prove yourself in the prelims, then get through circuit, sprint, drag, and drift races. You can also just jump right into the action with quick race mode, choose a car, a track, the number of laps and opponents, a race mode and get racing. Once you've unlocked a few things, customize your car so it's not only the best performance wise, but also visually. You don't have to worry about cops either. Tracks: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A.Circuit: Stadium: ------- Stadium is a great track for beginners because it starts with several straightaways with some twists and turns here and there, then ends with several turns, and the finish line is located halfway down a long straightaway. Market Street: ------------- Market Street is a perfect track for those who like going fast and have quick reflexes. The track is made out of straightaways that shift slightly to the left and right, then you finally come up on a turn or two when you may just be expecting to go straight. The finish line is located near the end of a long straightaway. Terminal: -------- Terminal is like Market Street except that it has more turns and the traffic is harder to avoid. It may leave you swerving all over the road. The finish line is located just after a quick curve in a straightaway. Olympic Square: -------------- Olympic Square begins with many twists and turns, but ends with Terminal style straightaways and the traffic is much easier to avoid. The finish line is located halfway down a straightaway. Inner City: ---------- Inner City is a track that's not that bit and starts in a tunnel. Once you get out of the tunnel you'll be facing the Stadium Mixture only with more straightaways. At the end there are many turns and a couple of long stretches. The finish line is located right after a sharp turn in the tunnel. Atlantica: --------- This track has many turns a few long straightaways, many medium stretches, and near the end several hills. I hope you have a good suspension because your going to need it here. Note: (R) or Reversed Tracks: any track that has an (R) next to it is just the reversed version of that track, this applies to the following types of racing: circuit, drift, and drag. B.Sprint: Liberty Gardens: --------------- Watch out for the traffic at the beginning and use N2O down the straightaways if you have any. The short length of this track is what makes it difficult. I hope you bought your weekends supply of nitrous because your going to need it. Broadway: -------- Another short sprint track, with an environment just like Market Street only a lot shorter. 1st Ave. Truck Stop: ------------------ 1st Ave. Truck Stop isn't as short as Liberty Gardens or Broadway, but it's not very long either. This place is rough with Market Street type stretches and turns that might have you going in the wrong direction. 7th & Sparling: ------------- This is probably the best sprint track for beginners, with many straightaways and few sharp turns this track isn't the hardest. 9th and Frey: ----------- This track might be hard to master because of the traffic at the beginning, the hills and if you miss your turn going into the building, chances are you're going to finish last. Spillway: -------- The hills can make this track difficult, but once you get used to the track layout it's not hard to win at all, just avoid the traffic get to the building in first, don't turn too late or early, and the win is yours. Did I mention that you should use a bit of nitrous at the end? C.Drag: 14th and Vine: ------------ A flat track with one very small slope at the end that has no effect on your driving. Highway 1: --------- A perfectly flat track, nothing can affect you except your driving or the AI. Main Street: ----------- A track made out of hills, these really affect your shifting, so just be careful Commercial: ---------- The only drag track with traffic, careful it can get rough out there, just be patient and keep your eyes open, hit your shifts, and you'll be on top. D.Drift: Drift Track 1: --------------- A square shaped drift track, it's the easiest track to get around so I recommend it for beginners. Drift Track 2: ------------- Like Drift Track 1 only with a couple more turns and hills. Drift Track 3: ------------- A figure 8 shaped Drift Track. Drift Track 4: ------------- Long Straightaways followed by 90-degree turns make this a perfect place to drift. Drift Track 5: ------------- Many turns in the beginning and not many straightaways until the end can make this a difficult place to drift. Drift Track 6: ------------- A combination of Drift tracks 4 and 5. Drift Track 7: ------------- The hills on this track can leave you bouncing around and the turns may send you into a wall. Drift Track 8: ------------- Like Drift Track 7 with easier turns and fewer hills, but it takes the shape of Drift Track 3. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. The Perfect Lap: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This section is meant to give you the complete layout of a circuit or sprint track so that you can get through it easier without unexpected turns popping up. 180-degree turn: Simply put a u-turn sending you in the opposite direction that you're currently heading in. 90-degree turn: Half of a 360-degree turn and looks like this: | | | | __________| | | _______________| 45-degree turn: A turn that doesn't need to be taken terribly hard it's half of a 90-degree turn A.Circuit: Stadium: First is a short straightaway to start with. Then a left turn, another short straight followed by a right turn. Two straightaways separated by a quick right- left turn just take it diagonally. Traffic is on the second straightaway. A right 45-degree turn followed by a short stretch with a left 45-degree turn. Then a sharp 90-degree left turn will come up quick followed by a quick sharp right. Watch for traffic. Then comes a sharp turn almost turning you in the opposite direction, I recommend the handbrake. Another quick right-left, with long stretches. A 90-degree left followed by a sharp right, then a quick sharp left. Long stretch with a left 45-degree turn followed by a right. A straight with a quick 45-degree left turn that appears to be 90 degrees, but isn't then a right after the stretch. Two sharp lefts followed by a sharp right. A short stretch with a sharp right. Market Street: First you start on a fairly short straightaway followed by a 45-degree left and a short straight. 45-degree left, short straight, 45-degree right, Next is an odd looking turn, but should be taken like a 90-degree right with a long straight right after it. Watch out for traffic because it comes up almost as soon as you get out of the corner onto this medium straight. At the end of this straight is a 45-degree left, short straight, 90-degree right. Short straight followed by a 45-degree right a short straight, and another 45- degree right. Short stretch, 45-degree right, very short stretch, and a 90- degree left. Note: I didn't put this section in with the tracks because that section shows which tracks are recommended for you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Race Modes: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A.Circuit: Circuit Racing is just an average everyday race with the exception that there is traffic and it takes place at night. It's just a lap race you drive around the turns and straightaways until you cross the start-finish line. There is a set number of laps and that is the number that you must cross the start-finish line before finishing. B.Sprint: A sprint race sounds simple, but the short length makes the race more difficult. You start at one point, finish at a different point, and you better hope beat everyone else to it. C.Drag: Drag races are different on this game than any other because you must use manual transmission (there isn't an automatic) and you have to hit your shifts on time. If you shift too late your engine might blow, if you shift too soon your car will lose valuable horsepower. Drags are just like sprint races only you go on a completely straight drag strip creating very high speeds. D.Drift: Drift racing is different than most types of racing because it's about style, rather than being the first to the finish line. Gather speed until you come to a corner and slide through it, you want to be going as fast as possible and get as sideways as possible, but be careful of the wall. The wall will eat any points that you were about to earn for the single drift that you hit it on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Go Underground Mode: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Underground Mode is where everything happens. It's where you unlock your parts to customize your ride and a few new rides. If you want to get to the top you better start here because this is where you develop your car and your career as a street racer. To move up in the rankings, challenge the racer ranked one spot ahead of you. First you need to prove yourself in the preliminary rankings, you start at the bottom and work your way up, once your to the top you go into the big leagues, drift, drag, sprint, and like the prelims circuits. The only cars you can choose to start with are the Mitsubishi Lancer, Ford Focus ZX3, and Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS, so choose the one that best suits your style, for speed, take the Impreza, for an all-around style take the Lancer, for handling the Focus is the best. The Focus is also the cheapest. The Focus costs $8000, the Lancer costs $8500 and the Impreza costs $9000. For other car prices see the Unlockables section 6. Note: You may be challenged at any time by the racer ranked behind you also. Note: The computer opponents are ranked at random, and the tracks are chose at random so I'm just showing what is unlocked in the order it is unlocked. Preliminary Rankings: 1. Hints and Tips: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.To drift better just turn into the corner like you would a circuit race and when you are almost through the corner hit the handbrake (R1) while still holding down the D-pad. This results in a longer drift and more drift points in a drift race. 2.In a drag race use your nitrous (if you have any) in fourth gear to get to fifth gear faster and also use nitrous in fifth gear to get to sixth gear faster, once your in sixth gear use what's left of your nitrous to get to the finish line. This should improve your drag times. When using a manual transmission the nitrous button is always the up button on the D-pad 3.When in a circuit race and going through sharp turns hold down the handbrake. This will result in a drift effect and get you through the corner better usually without hitting the wall. 4.Tap the nitrous (if you have any) button in a circuit race while going by an area with traffic. This almost always gets you through the danger zone, but if you don't make it the car gets slowed down so much it's only luck and skill that can ensure a victory. 5.When going through turns keep your car as close as you can to the inside of the track, but don't turn too early or you'll hit a building or wall, this applies to sprint and circuit modes. 6.In a sprint race don't conserve your nitrous too much, but don't use it all at once either, if you use nitrous coming out of any corner you should have a good chance of winning. 7.Never try to block or wreck anyone because if you do chances are you're the one going to get wrecked. Drag racing is sometimes an exception as you can slow someone down by putting a quick block on him or her. If you just stay directly in front of them their going to hit you from behind and you're going to have a DNF. 8.In Go Underground mode, it's better to skip around, change from drift to drag, to circuit, back to drag or something like that. 9.Watch for 4 yellow flashing circles with lines through them, if there are two of these right across from each other, you will need to be on your highest level of caution because this is where traffic comes out. If you see a bus, car, or fire truck come out be careful, the fire trucks are big and slow so they block almost the whole road. Cars are just so fast, the only way to miss them is to go behind them. There are other vehicles that you can hit, but these are the ones that are most often hit. 10.The break is your friend in sharp U-turns, and the handbrake is your friend if you have slow reflexes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10. Frequently Asked Questions: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What is better this or a console version? A: Obviously the console version is going to have more in it because there is a lot more memory in it than in the GBA. Q: What is the best car? A: Statistically it's the Nissan Skyline, but it's the most expensive and you don't get it until later in the game. The best car to start with depends on your driving style, test them all and take the one that suits you best. Q: Do my visual upgrades effect my Performance? A: No, they just make your car look a lot nicer. Q: Can I use nitrous in a drag race? If so how? A: Yes you can use nitrous in a drag race simply by tapping or holding the up button. Q: Is the AI in this game dirty? A: In the beginning it's not very dirty, but unfortunately as you progress the AI will keep running into your rear end until you spin out. Q: How many total cars are in this game? A: 14 customizable cars from makers like Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Toyota, and many more. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.
