It makes pinball interesting in the fact that it's you and the other little poke creatures I guess you could say working together to get a high score. The relatively easy controls make this game enjoyable. Knowing the background on pokemon doesn't hurt either. For pinball players everywhere, the challenging aspects such as getting a ball upgrade really bring the game together. On this Walkthorugh, there is a list of all the pokemon and most of the locations. Also, I have the prices of the stuff at the mart. II.) Controls The controls in this game are really simple. This is the probably the biggest factor in making a game enjoyable. Control Pad - Any direction - allows you to select things (on the main screen and field select) Left - uses the left flipper and puts pikachu on the left side. Start button - Pauses the game L button - tilts the field to the right R button - tilts to the left L+R buttons together - tilts the field up towards the top of the screen B button - cancels selections A button - confirm selections, starts the game by shooting the ball up, uses the right flipper and moves pikachu to the right side *Ruby - makuhita can punch the ball. Credit given to the PP: RaS instruction booklet on some controls III.) How to... a. - How to choose a field - on the title screen where it has listed, Gamestart pokedex, options, and hi-score, press the A button. A screen should come up with the Ruby field on the left and the Sapphire on the right. Press the A button on the field you want to choose. You can then choose a speed to play at. Normal is the standard and slow is slower. b. - How to save/ suspend your game - while you are playing, press the START button. You then have the options to Save or cancel. Cancel will bring you out of the small screen and back to the game. Save will restart you game. If you want to back to it, the main menu screen at the beginning should say CONTINUE. Select that to continue your game. c. - How to activate travel mode - *RUBY - hit a linoone on a certain side three times. A sign with a torchic standing on it will go by. If you hit the linoone three times on the right or left, you have to get the ball to go up and around the field in either direction. When the ball comes back down, a slot in the middle should open up. Hit the ball in the hole you will have traveled successfully. *SAPPHIRE - this is the same as ruby except to have to hit the switches on the wall next to Seedot or Zigzagoon. d. - How to activate catch'em mode - *RUBY - When you start the game, the catch 'em mode is all ready accessible by hitting the ball into the SHARPEDO slot. This will activate the catch'em mode. A shadow of a pokemon will appear in the middle of the two linoones, above the flippers. You must hit the ball up to hit the chinchou bumper things. For every hit another one or two pieces of the shadow break off until there are no more. The pokemon will then come out and hover there. You have to hit it three times to catch it. *SAPPHIRE - Similarly, when you start the game, you have to hit it in the catch'em mode slot, and in this case it's the WAILMER slot. Hit the ball up to the shroomish bumper thingers to break off some shadows. Repeat this process several times until the pokemon comes out. Hit it three times, and you're the champ. When you are in the middle of a game and the SHARPEDO or WAILMER slots are closed, hit the ball up and around the field on the right side (counter-clockwise) three times. After that the catch'em slot should open up. e. - How to charge pikachu - pikachu plays a big role in keeping the ball from going down the chute a.k.a. - the pit of doom. To charge him, you have to hit the ball either on the right or left side so that it goes up and around the field so that it hits the pika flap. At max speed, it should take about two times around to charge pikachu. When he is charged and the ball hits him on the way down to the pit of doom, he'll used his thundershock attack and blast it right back to the main part of field where you can continue playing. f. - How to open and get into the pokemart - The pokemart is an important feature for this game if you an expert or novice. To open the pokemart, hit the gate with ball. *SAPPHIRE - Hit the plusle and minum pokemon to open it. *In the pokemart you can buy many things that will help you on your game. Not only can you buy helpful items, you can buy I guess what you could call entertainment - a bonus game. *RUBY - the mart is in the top right corner. *SAPPHIRE - the mart is near the middle on the left. g. - How to get coins - Coins are the true lifesavers in this game. It's not so much as you can die in a pinball game, but the coins ca keep you from losing a ball. In the mart, one item is the 30-second ball saver but you cannot buy this without coins. *RUBY - the coin chute runs from the right of the chikorita up to the left of the cyndaquil. You get either 1, 5, or 10 coins when going up this chute. *SAPPHIRE - This coin chute is to the left of the pokemart on the metal grating like stuff. You get 1, 5, or 10 coins when going through this chute. h. - How to start and complete evolution mode - it wouldn't be a true pokemon game without this feature. Like its Gameboy color predecessor, PP: RaS has a way to evolve the pokemon you catch. On both fields you have to get the ball to go up and around on the left side three times. After that you will be able to evolve your pokemon (you have to have caught them that same game) by hitting the ball up into the pokemart. When you do, a screen comes up and allows you to choose the pokemon you want to evolve. Depending on how that pokemon evolves (if you have knowledge about pokemon, you'll know that certain pokemon don't all evolve with experience.) such as exp., certain elemental stones, or trading , you'll have to get three of those specific symbols that are floating around the field. (After you get one, another will appear.) Once you've completed that task, a slot should appear in the center of the field where all other slot things happen. Hit the ball in there and you've completed evolving the pokemon. i. - How to Upgrade the Ball - The more you upgrade the ball, the more points you get. The more points you get, the more you win. There are several ways of upgrading a ball too. *RUBY - in ruby, you can actually hit the ball up to where the pokemart is and have it go all the way up. There is a switch there that will upgrade your ball. *RUBY and SAPPHIRE - on both fields, you can upgrade the ball by having the ball go through one of the three lanes at the top of the field. When you hit the bumpers, the circles above the lane fill in except one. If two are filled in and your ball goes through the third, your ball gets upgraded. j. - How to get a Field bonus Multiplier - this process is the exact process I mentioned on how to upgrade the ball. Look below to section V to see the different upgrades. k. - How to hatch pokemon - Another great feature in this game! *RUBY - In the Ruby field, you have to basically bombardier the poor little bugger cyndaquil into going inside his cave. First things first though. Start by hitting him once possibly twice if you just miss so that he moves closer to his cave. Next, continue to hit him until he goes into the cave. Finally, after you hit him again, the egg will hatch. A pokemon will jump onto the field and run around. (A slow run, don't worry. It's more of a stroll then anything.) After two hits, you're all set. You've caught a baby pokemon. *SAPPHIRE - You basically have to do the same thing with hitting the ball, except there's no pokemon blocking your way. The Thing in the top right corner of the field is where you have to hit the ball. After a few times a baby should come out of the egg on top. *NOTE - to get an egg back after you've hatched it, hit the ball back into the cave in Ruby where aerodactyl will swoop down with another egg, or hit the ball back up the ramp into the Red and white machine thing in sapphire and watch the egg come out of a hatch. (No pun intended.) IV.) Stuff to buy at the Pokemart 10 coins - 30 sec. ball saver 20 coins - great 60 sec. Ball saver 30 coins - ultra 90sec. Ball saver 40 coins - ball upgrade 40 coins - 30 sec. Timer bonus 50 coins - double Pika-power (Pikachu on one side, pichu on the other) 60 coins - bonus challenge 99 coins - extra ball V.) Ball upgrades 1 - Normal Ball/ Pokeball - normal score (x1) 2 - Great Ball - double score (x2) 3 - Ultra Ball - triple score (x3) 4 - MASTER ball - quadruple score (x4) NOTE - when you have a ball upgrade and you complete a bonus game, the reward is however much you get times 1,2,3, or 4 depending on the ball. Winning the bouns game with upgrades is a key way to get a whole lot of points. VI.) Bonus Stages This is where all the big points are tallied. Not only do the bonus games provide points, they provide fun too! a. - Duskull Bonus - this can only be reached in the SAPPHIRE field. You have a limited amount of time (3:00 I think) to complete this. Hit 20 different Duskull to get to the boss. It is a huge Dusclops!!! Unfortunately, all hits from the front won't affect him; he'll just catch it and throw it back at you. Hit him around 5 times from either the side or back to defeat him. Your reward is 30,000,000 points. b. - Kecleon Bonus - this can only be reached in the RUBY field. Yup, you guessed it, kecleon's a chameleon. And yup, he can be camouflaged. You have to hit kecleon 10 times to get the win. How do you see him you ask? Hit the tree with the ball and get the thing that comes out. It will make it seem as though the sun comes out. This will allow you to see kecleon crouching somewhere around the level. c. - Spheal Bonus - This bonus can be reached on either of the fields. The whole idea of this game is to get the ball and the little spheals up the slides and into the hoop. Your can get the spheals up by hitting them with the ball. The more spheals and pokeballs you get in, the more points you get. d. - Kyogre Bonus - I'm pretty sure this bonus can be reached on the sapphire field. When the ball appears, Kyogre will waiting at the top of the screen at an opening. (Sounds familiar pokemon fans?) He will sit there for a few seconds .Next, he'll start to wave his arms. This will cause whirlpools to appear and move around. If your ball hits one, it will get stuck for a few seconds then be released. After the whirlpools, Kyogre will then go under water occasionally coming up. After a little bit he'll go back to where he started. Hit him from 10 to 20 times to win. You're reward is hefty! When you beat this stage twice, you capture kyogre. e. - Groudon Bonus - This bonus can only be reached on the Ruby field. Like the Kyogre Bonus, Groudon has his throne like area where he stays. He's harder than Kyogre though. He has three attacks that will impede your goal of beating him. The first is Earthquake. This, like many other bosses' attacks will paralyze your ball in place for a little. He can also create a fire wall around him which protects him from getting hit. Hit the flames a few times and you'll destroy it and open him for attack. His last attack is rock tomb. He makes boulders fall from the cieling to mess you up. Usually you can play around them but it's always good to get rid of them with a few hits. After 15 hits, Groudon will walk backwards out of the screen. You've defeated him!!! Like Kyogre, you get a very hefty reward. If you beat this bonus stage twice, you capture groudon. f. - Rayquaza Bonus - This is the undoubtedly best Bonus ever! It's like a boss battle. When your ball appears, you're on top of a building, Rayquaza's lair. (Sound famililar pokemon fans?) The thing that makes this bonus stage the hardess, it that Rayquaza has an arsenal of tricks and abilities. For starters, he moves back and forth at the top of the screen while moving up and down. When he goes up, your ball can't hit him, so time your shots. One of his two attacks is thunderbolt. Rayquaza will charge up for a second then blast hit beam at you. There's only one way to dodge it, but I'll tell you later. The second of his attacks is twister. He'll fly away from the screen for a second then fly across the screen creating two twisters on the field. If you touch them, your ball will go flying from the screen, then drops back down a few seconds later. When Rayquaza starts to attack you a lot, you can use the twisters to get you away from the screen for a few seconds so that his thunderbolt won't hit you. After hitting him from 10 - 20 times, he's defeated. If you have a Masterball when you come to this Bonus game, you're very lucky because you get 99,999,999 points! You have 3 minutes to beat him. This bonus adds a nice touch to the game. If you beat this bonus stage twice you cpature Rayquaza. VII.)
