New Battle-e Cards added as well as the Eon Ticket (Finally!!) - "Other E-cards" Section added (The New Section 5) - Took care of some wording obscurities as well as a better guide to my Battle-e Card list - Added a preview of version 3.5 - Added an ETA feature to the "Coming Soon" section - Added dates to the "Version History" section 12/19/03: 3.5 - Added the Australian promotional cards - Fixed a few typos - Added a preview of version 4.0 ----------------------------------- 1) Background info ----------------------------------- -1.1 Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire- Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire are the first Pokemon games for the Gameboy Advance system. They are essentially the same game, except there are some Pokemon available only in Sapphire, and some only in Ruby. The other main difference: you get a different Battle-e card with either version. In any event, the version of the game you have really does not make any difference on the actual usage of the e-cards -1.2 e-Reader- Alright. A lot of the people who got this game are not big e-Reader fans, like with Animal Crossing (where we knew before the e-Reader's release about its connectivity with AC). So let me give you some info on it. It's Nintendo's latest GBA peripheral, which actually allows you to scan cards with specially encoded "dot code" to play a mini-game/watch an animation/listen to music. If you're familiar with Animal Crossing, the set-up to this game is very similar. The e-Reader has a "communication" option from which you can either choose Gamecube or Gameboy Advance. Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire does not use this option, surprisingly. Rather all you have to do is scan the card regularly once you're properly connected. ----------------------------------- 2) Plugging it all together ----------------------------------- Okay! Here's the fun part. This is what you need to do an e-card battle: *Two Gameboy Advance Systems *One e-Reader *One Pokemon cartridge (Ruby or Sapphire) *One GBA-to-GBA link cable *One Pokemon Battle-e Card NOTE: To activate a Mystery Event battle, you must have the Mystery Event option unlocked in your main menu (if you don't, go to section 3.3) Now, first thing's first: make sure both systems are turned off (also make sure to save your game before you turn it off). Make sure you have the Pokemon cartridge plugged in to one of your GBA systems and the e-Reader in the other one. Next, attach one end of the GBA-to-GBA cable into the e-Reader and the other into the GBA system with the Pokemon game in it. Now turn on both systems. The connection should work ----------------------------------- 3) Mystery Events ----------------------------------- -3.1 What they are- A Mystery Event is just that: a mystery. Once you're a member of the Mystery Event Club, you can scan a Battle-e card to face an opponent. The odd thing is, at least with the promo cards in the game, once you beat the trainer, nothing happens. You don't even get any experience points or money. Also, once you beat the trainer, your Pokemon are fully restored. It almost functions as a player-vs-player battle (accessed on the second floor of a Pokemon Center). -3.2 Mystery Event Club- Ooh, the Mystery Event Club! This organization is very prestigious. I will tell you how to become a member. First of all, you need 5 badges. Once you do, go to the Pokemon Center in Petalburg City. You'll notice a man standing next to the computer. Talk to him. He'll ask you if you want to "make a new profile." Choose yes. Now he'll show you four words. Arrange them in this order: MYSTERY EVENT IS EXCITING Hit the select button when the word menu comes up, and you will be able to use an alphabetical list of words, making it easier to get the above phrase. Congratulations!!! You are now a member of the Mystery Event Club! -3.3 Mystery Event Battles- After you become a member of the Mystery Event Club, you can now do the mystery event battles. But the trick still isn't over. After you're a member, turn off the GBA to get ready to scan your Battle-e card. See section 4 for info about scanning cards. After you scan a card and are in your adventure again, head to Mossdeep City. Go to the house below the Pokemon Mart and talk to the old man. After all this, you can now enter the room behind him and battle the trainer on your Battle-e card! ----------------------------------- 4) Battle-e Cards ----------------------------------- -4.1 How to scan them- Okay; hopefully you've read the rest of the FAQ before reading this part, because this is the last leg of the journey, as far as unlocking mystery events is concerned. Once you have your two GBA systems turned off and linked up, turn them both on. First, go to the GBA with your Pokemon game in it and choose "Mystery Event". Now, go to your GBA with the e-Reader and select "Scan Dot Code" Finally, once the connection is made, you can scan your card. You'll see a silhouette of the trainer on the GBA with the e-Reader. After you finish, press the A button on the GBA with the Pokemon game and you will go back to the main menu screen. From there, you can go into your game and find the trainer on the card (see section 3.3 to find out how to find him/her) -4.2 Card List- Here will be the part of the FAQ that gets updated the most (at least when Nintendo starts releasing new cards). For now, though, there are only the two promo cards that came with the games. Each card has a trainer on it who has three Pokemon. Two are shown, but the last one is hidden (as well as some stats from all Pokemon) so you need to scan the card to find out the "hidden" parts of the card! Here's how the following list works: **************************** NAME OF CARD PACK-NAME OF SERIES IN THAT PACK **************************** Trainer ID Number - TRAINER NAME ~Battle Tower~ If this appears, the trainer may appear in the Battle Tower after you battle him or her in Mossdeep. ~Special Pokemon~ If this appears, the mystery Pokemon is a Pokemon from Red/Blue/Gold/Silver that is not otherwise in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire, or a shiny Pokemon. ~All Lvl. 100~ If this appears, it shows that that trainer is the leader of the series and all his or her Pokemon are at level 100. Pokemon 1ST POKEMON (LVL. #) 2ND POKEMON (LVL. #) 3RD (LVL. #) Ability (Not on the PR cards) The name of the ability the Pokemon has Item The name of the item the Pokemon is holding Moves The Moveset of the Pokemon (The cards are arranged in numerical order, by their ID number) (The PR cards are numbered by my own method, generally in the order they came out) **************************** PACKAGED IN POKEMON RUBY **************************** PR01 - GENTLEMAN NILS Pokemon SABLEYE (50) PLUSLE (50) ? There is not much there, except for a Pokemon that you can't catch any other way. For Pokemon Ruby players, it is Latias; for Pokemon Sapphire players, it is Latios. Unlike the one you catch in the wild, Latias/Latios at Southern Island will never flee, but it is at level 50 instead of 40, and also knows the move "Recover" so it is a difficult task to catch it. To get the Eon Ticket ferry pass, you need an Eon Ticket card. Follow the instructions in sections 2, 3 and 4.1 of this FAQ for information on setting up the e-Reader and scanning an e-Card. When you scan the Eon Ticket card, instead of a trainer's silhouette showing up on the GBA with the e-Reader, you will see the Eon Ticket. Press A on the GBA with the Pokemon game in it to activate the event. Now continue your saved game and go to your father's gym in Petalburg City. If you have beaten the Pokemon League, he will be in the first room of the gym when you walk in. Otherwise, go to the back of the gym where you battled him. Now talk to him and he will give you the Eon Ticket. Now go to Lilycove and enter the ferry station there. Talk to the attendant and she will make a reference to your Eon Ticket. Then you will be taken to Southern Island! -5.2 Scanning Berry-e Cards- There are two berry-e cards in each pack of Pokemon Battle-e Cards (one for each series) for a total of six. Follow the instructions in sections 2, 3 and 4.1 of this FAQ for information on setting up the e-Reader and scanning an e-Card. When you scan a berry-e card, instead of a trainer's silhouette showing up on the GBA with the e-Reader, you will see the berry. Press A on the GBA with the Pokemon game in it to activate the event. IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU SCANNED A BERRY-E CARD OR YOU CURRENTLY DON'T HAVE A BERRY FROM AN E-CARD IN YOUR BERRY POCKET: Continue your saved game and go to your father's gym in Petalburg City. If you have beaten the Pokemon League, he will be in the first room of the gym when you walk in. Otherwise, go to the back of the gym where you battled him. Now talk to him and he will give you the berry you just scanned. I suggest planting the berry and planting the two/three berries you get again, and keep doing that until you have a lot of that berry, and then make Pokeblocks with them. IF YOU HAVE A BERRY FROM AN E-CARD IN YOUR BERRY POCKET: Continue your saved game. You will now notice that whatever "e-berry" you previously had has now transformed into the berry you just scanned (i.e. You can only have one kind of "e-berry" at a time) NOTE: If you have more than one of your "e-berry" and you scan a different berry, ALL of your old e-berries will transform into just one of the new berry, so be careful! -5.3 Card list- BERRY-E CARDS (The numbers (B01, B02, etc) are part of a numbering system I made up based on which berries go with which series. The berry cards do not have numbers printed on them) B01: PUMKIN BERRY (FREEZING RAY-FREEZING RAY) Size - 1.9 inches Firmess - SUPER HARD Flavor - SPICY DRY SWEET BITTER *SOUR* Description - This BERRY is amazingly sour. It's heavy due to its dense filling. B02: DRASH BERRY (FREEZING RAY-SEIZING POISON) Size - 5.2 inches Firmness - VERY HARD Flavor - SPICY DRY *SWEET* BITTER SOUR Description - When it ripens, this sweet BERRY falls and sticks into the ground. B03: CHILAN BERRY (HIDDEN RUINS-HIDDEN RUINS) Size - 10.7 inches Firmess - SOFT Flavor - *SPICY* DRY *SWEET* BITTER SOUR Description - This sparse BERRY grows quickly. Its skin is quite tough B04: STRIB BERRY (IRON DEFENSE-IRON DEFENSE) Size - 4.8 inches Firmness - HARD Flavor - *SPICY* DRY SWEET *BITTER* SOUR Description - It grows slowly, but abundantly. OTHER E-CARDS PR03: EON TICKET ----------------------------------- 6) Coming Soon ----------------------------------- PREVIEW OF VERSION 4.0: Coming up in the next update: Okay, I lied. The stuff I previewed for 3.5 did not get added to my FAQ. But I had to add the Australian cards first. So for the next version: *Some more info on the uses of berries *A Battle-e Card Frequently Asked Questions list *A COMPLETE list of Pokemon, Abilities, Items, & Moves (i.e. The ones that currently have question marks) ETA for Version 4.0 - Q1 2004 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PREVIEW OF VERSION 3.5: Coming up in the next update: *Some more info on the uses of berries *A Battle-e Card Frequently Asked Questions list ETA For Version 3.5 - 10/30/03 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PREVIEW OF VERSION 1.6: Coming up in the next update: *At E3, Nintendo released a new e-card designed specifically for the GBA Pokemon games! More info in a few days (when I get my own) ----------------------------------- 7) Credits ----------------------------------- Thanks so much to CJayC for publishing this FAQ (if he does). I understand his unimaginably busy schedule, so the effort spent in putting up this FAQ is greatly appreciated! A big kudos also goes to Nintendo for making such a terrific game!!! Also, a big shout of thanks to Jason (aka Jaromaru) for the info on the Australian promos! Thanks, Jason!
