Also, some moves for the Seigaku regulars have been added (namely, Momoshiro and Kikumaru's). And if anyone knows the correct names to the moves I have listed, please feel free to tell me. I don't know any of them except the ones mentioned in the anime series. I'm currently going over each character to make sure I didn't miss any of their moves. Version 1 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This is the first version of my first FAQ. This only has the basics so far, with only Seigaku's moves and combos. I'll try to update monthly or so. Please give me some feedback (E-mail at qwertyman_2002@yahoo.com). _______________________________ |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |\_____________________________/| |=-----(SE2A) Introduction-----=| |/¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯\| |_______________________________| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Welcome to my Prince of Tennis Glorious Gold / Stylish Silver FAQ! Prince of Tennis (aka, Tennis no Ojisama in Japanese) is a tennis game (as you may have guessed), but with a large twist: each character has his/her own special movelist and stats. The game is based on the anime series and manga Tennis no Ojisama. The anime & manga series is based about a high school freshman boy named Echizen Ryoma, who is supposedly the "Prince of Tennis" (har har), namely because of his immense skill in the game of tennis; he has won several tournaments in America and is coming back to Japan to test his skill there. _______________________________ |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |\_____________________________/| |=-------(SE3A) Controls-------=| |/¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯\| |_______________________________| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Menu Controls ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ D-pad: Move cursor to select options A button: Select an option B button: Go to the previous menu L button: No use R button: Skip down one page of characters in character select Basic In-game controls (during a match) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ D-pad: Move your character around the court A button: Standard hit B button: Lob L button: Not used by itself R button: Not used by itself Select: Taunt Advanced In-game controls ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ L+A: Topspin hit L+B: Short volley (drop shot) R+A: Slice hit R+B: Different type of lob, seems to go lower than the standard lob L+R: Makes you run faster (hold down) L+R+A: Special move 1 L+R+B: Special move 2 (if applicable) L+Select: Taunt that boosts your yellow guage, but gives a slight boosts to the opponent's normal guage R+Select: Taunt that boosts your normal guage (red or blue) L+R+Select: Uses your filled-up yellow guage (must be filled) to make your character "pumped up," so to say. In this state, the character has in infinite amount of super move usage (they get full bars), and cannot have his/her wrist broken. And, I'm not sure about this one, but they have better stats in this stage. _______________________________ |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |\_____________________________/| |=--------(SE4A) Moves--------=| |/¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯\| |_______________________________| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _____________________________ |=-----Moves lists notes-----=| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ In this section of the FAQ, I will be using the following format for listing the moves: -=Move Name=- Move Condition: Move Command: Description: Move Quote Translation: Cost: Notes: So get used to it. =P Also, if the name has a "?" before and after the name, then that means I'm not sure of the actual name, or it's spelling. In some of the moves, I have "Activation" listed as the condition to use a certain move. This just means that the move is activated (so to say) when you use it, and it takes some time to actually have it going. These moves all use the buttons L+R+Select. They aren't actually moves, they are more of a passive thing for the duration of the rally. Examples of activation moves are: Kikumaru's Agression Up, Sengoku's Tennis Sense and Mizuki's Insight. Most of these moves can be used at any given area and time, one exception though, is Kikumaru's Mirror Image move. This move must be activated at the net. While these types of moves are on, no other special move can be used, and your bars don't get charged either. _____________________________ |=------(SE4B) Seigaku------=| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Character list order ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Ryoma Echizen Kaidoh Kaoru Takeshi Momoshiro Takashi Kawamura Eiji Kikumaru Syuichiroh Oishi Syusuke Fuji Kunimitsu Tezuka Sadaharu Inui Ryoma Echizen: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Twist Serve=- Condition: Serve Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Echizen starts his serve like any other, except when the ball hits the ground, it turns left or right, depending on which hand he uses. Quote: "It's okay to be surprised" Cost: 3 bars Notes: If you use the L+R+A command, Ryoma changes hand. L+R+B keeps the racket in his left hand. Also, the hand that is holding the racket tells you which way the ball bounces; left hand bounces left, right hand bounces right. Simple, right? -=Super Rising=- Condition: Serve Return Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Echizen dashes to the ball, and returns it to the court side of your choosing. Quote: Cost: 2 bars Notes: L+R+A makes the ball fly a normal straight path, L+R+B makes the ball fly a lob path. -=Buggy Whip Shot=- Condition: Return Command: L+R+A Description: Ryoma adds a jump to the shot, making the ball fly a curved path Quote: Here I go. Cost: 4 bars Notes: This move isn't too useful, unless you're playing a human opponent. The computers can return it most of the time. -=Zero-shiki=- Condition: Return Command: L+R+B Description: Ryoma hits the ball lightly, and when the ball bounces, it goes toward the net without bouncing. Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: If you're using this move from behind the 1st line, then make sure to hit forward, as the ball can hit the net. -=Drive A=- Condition: Enemy / Ball is near the net Command: L+R+A Description: Ryoma dashes to the ball, and does a jumping hit to it Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: This move misses if the opponent isn't near the net, or if you don't hit back (not too sure on this though) -=Drive B=- Condition: Enemy / Ball is near the net Command: L+R+B Description: Ryoma slides to the ball (albeit the animation is bad), and the balls trajectory follows the path of the letter "B" Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: -=Twist Smash=- Condition: Lob Return Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Ryoma jumps up super high, and does a smash, making the ball bounce left or right Quote: Notes: L+R+A makes the ball bounce to Ryoma's right, L+R+B makes the ball bounce to his left. Kaidoh Kaoru: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Snake=- Condition: Return behind the first line Command: L+R+A Description: Kaidoh hits the ball, making it fly a curved path Quote: Cost: 2 bars Notes: Practically useless, as the computer can easily return it -=Boomerang Snake=- Condition: Return behind the first line Command: L+R+B Description: Kaidoh hits the ball, and the ball flys around the net posts (outside the area), landing in the back area of the opponent's court Quote: Cost: 2 bars Notes: Basically anti-netplay, as it doesn't go near the net area -=Viper Dive=- Condition: Kaidoh is behind the baseline, and the opponent uses a short volley / drop shot Description: Kaidoh waits for the ball to go into his court, and makes a sudden dive for it. He barely makes it, and the ball is hit like a drop shot Quote: Cost: Notes: Very useful against people who have drop shot special moves (Echizen, Tezuka, Oishi) -=?Lob Snake?=- Condition: Kaidoh is behind the baseline Description: Kaidoh hits the ball, making the ball fly upward in the air in a zig-zag fashion, and then the ball suddenly hits the service line like a smash. Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: -=Diamondback=- Condition: Netplay Description: Kaidoh runs back to where the ball will bounce, and hits it like a snake Quote: Cost: 1 bar Notes: Very useful, because it costs half as much as a normal snake -=?Net Snake?=- Condition: Netplay Description: Kaidoh stands still at the net, and hits the ball like a snake Quote: Cost: 1 bar Notes: While it does cost less than a normal snake, this shot seems to curve less. Takeshi Momoshiro: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Jackknife=- Condition: Return, must be backhand (Momoshiro's left) Command: L+R+A Description: Momoshiro gets into a Jackknife position, and hits the ball while leaning on it with only one leg. Quote: A power battle! Just what I wanted! Cost: 3 bars Notes: -=Dunk Smash=- Condition: Lob Return Command: L+R+A Description: Momoshiro jumps high into the air, and returns the lob with a very potent smash. Quote: Cost: 2 bars / 3 bars Notes: For some reason, sometimes Momoshiro does a much more powerful smash, othertimes he does a weaker one. I think it has something to do with the height of the ball. The weaker version only costs 2 bars, while the stronger version costs 3 bars -=Dunk Smash Feint=- Condition: Lob Return Command: L+R+B Decription: Momoshiro jumps up into the air, but instead of smashing, he feints and does a drop shot. Quote: Cost: 2 bars Notes: -="That"=- Condition: Opponent Serving, Doubles, Currently losing Command: L+R+Select Description: Momoshiro goes over to his partner and says something (in Japanese characters, I can't read it) Quote: Cost: ? Notes: Gets rid of the opponents' yellow bar Takashi Kawamura: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Burning Serve=- Condition: Serve Command: L+R+A Description: Like a normal serve, but when the ball is returned by a normal hit, it flies like a lob Quote: Cost: 3 bars Notes: -=Burning Hadoukyuu=- Condition: Return Command: L+R+A Description: Kawamura does a powerful hit, making the ball explode Quote: Cost: 3 bars Notes: -=Great Hadoukyuu=- Condition: Return Command: L+R+B Description: Kawamura gets into a one-handed Hadoukyuu position, and hits the ball with a powerful force. Quote: Cost: 3 bars Notes: This Hadoukyuu seems to break more wrists than the Burning Hadoukyuu -=Dash Hadoukyuu=- Condition: Behind the baseline, ball is still in the opponent court (he/she just hit it) Command: L+R+A Description: Kawamura dashes to the ball, and hits it. The ball looks like a giant fire ball Quote: Da-da-da-da-DASH! Cost: 4 bars Notes: Breaks wrists no matter what (unless someone uses a special move to combat this), but you can only use it once a game. Eiji Kikumaru: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Acrobatic V=- Condition: Netplay Command: L+R+A Description: Kikumaru hops to the ball with his back facing it Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: -=?Mirror Image?=- Condition: Netplay, Activation Command: L+R+Select Description: Kikumaru stops for a second, and creates 2 mirror images of himself at his sides. Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: Yes, all the clones hit, it may only seem like they don't because Kikumaru slides a bit. -=Moon Volley=- Condition: Baseline Return Command: L+R+A Description: Kikumaru slides the ball, and hits it like Oishi's Moon Volley Quote: This is Oishi's move, but I'll use it! Cost: 4 bars Notes: -=Kikumaru Beam=- Condition: Lob Return Command: L+R+A Description: Kikumaru jumps into the air, and smacks the ball on down. Quote: Here ya go! Cost: Notes: -=?Agression Up?=- Condition: Activation, Service Line to Baseline area Command: L+R+Select Description: Kikumaru nods his head, and charges up Quote: Cost: Notes: This special gives you full yellow gauge, so use it wisely. Syuichiroh Oishi: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Moon Volley=- Condition: Baseline Return Command: L+R+A Description: Oishi runs to the ball, and lobs in so it lands right on the baseline. Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: -=Drop Volley=- Condition: Baseline Return Command: L+R+B Description: Oishi runs to the ball, but instead of lobbing, he does a drop shot. Quote: Cost: 3 bars Notes: -=?Cross-court shot?=- Condition: Netplay Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Oishi hits the ball to the other court Quote: Okay! Cost: 3 bars Notes: L+R+A hits the ball to the left, while L+R+B hits the ball to the right. Syusuke Fuji: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Dissappearing serve=- Condition: Serve Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Fuji slices the serve, and while the ball is in the opponent's court, the ball goes invisible, and goes to the right or straight. Quote: Cost: 3 bars Notes: L+R+A makes the ball go to the right, whilst L+R+B makes the ball go straight. -=Tsubame Gaeshi=- Condition: Return, Forehand (Fuji's right) Command: L+R+A Description: Fuji hits the ball, and the ball either hugs closely to the ground and can still be hit, or it actually rolls across the ground Quote: I need more spin or Cost: 2 bars Notes: If the opponent hits a normal shot (just A), then Fuji can't do the complete Tsubame Gaeshi, so he says "I need more spin" and the ball just hugs the ground, and can be hit; but it can't be returned via normal shot, only by lob. If the enemy does a shot with a spin (or lob) Fuji does the complete Tsubame Gaeshi, and once the ball lands, it cannot be hit. -=Hakugei=- Condition: Return, Backhand (Fuji's left) Command: L+R+B Description: Fuji backhands the ball, and the ball curves way up, going straight to the opponent's court, and then it drops perfectly down, and return's to Fuji's hand after the bounce Quote: A triple counter, the last one. Cost: 2 bars Notes: Basically useless against the computer. They either smash the ball when it's coming down, or hit it normally when it's coming back. Sometimes though, they miss and hit the net. -=Higuma Otoshi=- Condition: Smash Return Command: L+R+A Description: When the enemy smashes the ball, Fuji goes right to where the ball should bounce, and then does a spinning motion when the ball hits his racket (you don't see the spin clearly) and returns the ball with a lob style hit. Quote: I will return this ball. Cost: 4 bars Notes: Fuji can return the smash from where ever he is, so it's quite useful, as long as the opponent is at the net or, if they are using a special smash where they jump high. Kunimitsu Tezuka: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Zero-shiki=- Condition: Return Command: L+R+B Description: Tezuka drop shots the ball, and when the ball lands, it doesn't bounce; it rolls towards the net Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: -=?Thunder Serve?=- Condition: Serve Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Tezuka serves normally, but the ball travels at a high speed Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: -=Tezuka Zone=- Condition: Activation Command: L+R+Select Description: Tezuka pauses, and creates a little circle around him, making all shots gravitate toward him Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: -=?Corner Shot?=- Condition: Behind baseline Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Tezuka smacks the ball to either the left court corner, or right court corner Quote: Good drive shot. Cost: 1 bar Notes: Insanely good, because of it's low cost and it's ability to score. Using A or B doesn't matter, or so, I haven't seen a difference. Sadaharu Inui: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=Super Sonic Serve=- Condition: Serve Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: A serve, but super fast Quote: Cost: 2 bars Notes: -=Data Tennis=- Condition: Netplay Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Inui runs to the ball, and returns it Quote: Front court return chance, 100% Cost: 3 bars Notes: If the ball is low, Inui does a normal shot. If the opponent lobs the ball, but you're not in a position to use D.R.S, Inui runs back and does a normal smash to the ball. -=D.R.S.=- Condition: Lob Return Command: L+R+A or L+R+B Description: Inui jumps up to the ball, and smashes it Quote: Lob return chance, 90% Cost: 4 bars Notes: If you hold down A or B (depending on which combo you used) while Inui is talking and when he is technically hitting the ball, time freezes for a bit, and you can decide where to aim. Once you let go, Inui smashes the ball. Quote: Cost: 4 bars Notes: Atsushi Kizarazu: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=?Smash Feint?=- Condition: Lob Return Command: L+R+A Description: Kizarazu jumps into the air, but isntead of smashing, he does a feint, hitting the ball like a drop shot. Quote: Lucky! Cost: 2 bars Notes: -=?Pop Shot?=- Condition: Return Command: L+R+A Description: Kizarazu hits the ball so the ball taps the net, and when the ball hits the net, it jumps up like a lob to hit the baseline. Hajime Mizuki: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ -=?True Sight?=- Condition: Activiation Command: L+R+Select Description: Mizuki nods his head a bit, and after he does this, a sparkling star appears wherever the ball will bounce at (on your court only). Quote: Cost: 1 bar Notes: -=?Disappearing shot?=- Condition: Return Command: L+R+A Description: Mizuki hits the ball, and the instant the ball is launched, it disappears, but reappears after it bounces. Before asking questions on the boards, check here first. Saves you time, doesn't make people angry, and we're all happy. Q: How come there are two power gauge bars? A: The red/blue bar indicates when you can use your character's special moves (like previous POT games). If the bar get full, and your character is flashing WHITE, you can initiate specials by holding L+R and A/B/Select. The new yellow bar indicates how "pumped up" your character is. If the yellow bar gets full, you can get your character "fired up" (This is shown in some eps in the anime where echizen and tezuka turned gold and hit super shots) by pressing L+R+Start. Your characters flashes YELLOW and allows you to hit infinite specials for a limited amount of time until your yellow gauge depletes. Q: How come CPU regenerates both his power bars quicker? A: CPU power bars don't regenerate quicker. You can get your bars to regenerate quicker by taunting (keep hitting Select after you return the ball). Q: How do I unlock _________ character? A: Check the Unlock FAQ. Q: How come I can't do any specials for Tezuka? A: This is because the game tried to follow the anime. According to the anime, Tezuka is super strong and only uses specials when his opponent plays hard during the latter games of the match. So the game takes this into account and only allows Tezuka to use special when the opponent is "on fire" (flashing yellow). Q: I just lost a match because of R.K.O! What's that and how'd it happen? A: R.K.O is when someone gets their racket blown out of their hand (I say their wrist breaks) 3 times in one game, even if it happened in different sets. The opponent wins by default if that happens. Q: How do you break someone's wrist? A: They have to have little to none of their Custom Bar (the red/blue bar) filled up, and you need to hit a power shot (I don't know what kind of shot that is). Also, some special moves break wrists as well, like Kawamura's several Hadoukyuus. Q. The opponent just did some weird move where his face flashed across the screen, now he's yellow! A. That means they used their yellow gauge when it was filled up. When they do this, the character can perform better, their wrists won't be broken, and they have infinite special moves for the time being. Q: How do I charge up that yellow bar? A: You can do one of several things: Get an ace (smash, serve), use L+Select, dive for the ball and hit the ball in the dive, or get your wrist broken. Q: How come __________ can't use the move you listed? A: Probably because that character can only use the move against certain characters. For example: Tezuka can only use his moves against characters like Ryoma and Atobe (unless the character is "pumped up"). _______________________________ |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |\_____________________________/| |=--------(SE6A) Credit--------=| |/¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯\| |_______________________________| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Konami Computer Entertainment Japan (KCEJ): For making the game GameFAQs: For hosting this FAQ and many others.
