Forward*~=-_______________________> / | \ 2021 Update: Fixed a lot of typos, added facts, and a lot of stuff from peoples emails they have sent me. Thank you guys, it means a lot! 2012 Update: What is this guide? This is a walkthrough, and hopefully a 100% complete database of all info related to Crystalis. I've done a TON of research on this game, as we are making a "Same Graphics / Same Style / Continuing Storyline [SEQUEL] to this! WOOT, AM I RIGHT? :D All Info was double checked by me. Many other websites I used as a reference were wrong, thus I have corrected their errors. If you happen to find one, PLEASE let me know, so we can get that fixed! (Provide proof if you can!) ----- Crystalis is one of my most favorite games ever. So I decided to write a walkthrough, a complete resource, and create a sequel. I remember a few years back... in 2001, I met a guy named David M. screen name, Oxnard. He was like.. 22ish at the time and surprised to meet someone else who liked Crystalis. Stuff happened and we lost contact. Many google searches and forum messages later, I can't find anyone who keeps in contact with him. No myspace profile, no nothing. So I write this walkthrough for you, Oxy. I hope one day you'll be replaying Crystalis and come to GameFAQS to scope out where an item is or a map or whatever, and run across my walkthrough! :) 2012 Update!: I eventually got back in touch with Oxy, and while the reunion was a happy time, it wasn't the same as it had been. Either way, Oxy was a special person to me, and this remains dedicated to him - the first person I ever met who has played Crystalis In addition, I dedicate this to Daniel, my wifey who is the also first person IRL who i've met who's even HEARD of it, much less played. We're working on a sequel with the same graphics, gameplay, and storyline together. ???? 2005 - Started it. July 2007 - Finished it. Version 1.0 After 2 years XD 39 pages! Woo! Feb. 2012 - Started re-work of it. Changing the ASCII up a bit and adding The ASCII Swords to the sections. Rewriting it to sound less like i'm 14, and more... er, professonal, yet, humorous? Also fixing errors. Sep. 2012 - Resume working on the walkthrough. Editing the TL;DR sections. Nov. 2012 - Continue working Dec. 2012 - Continue working, Finished This 2.5 Version! Jan. 2012 - Continue working... Finished 2.x except for GBC differences! \ | /___________________________________________________________ o[===<{*}>______-=~* I.5. Walkthrough*~=-__________________> / | \ \ | /________________ o[===<{*}>___[*. Hints]___> So you're not caught off guard! / | \ -There are 5 swords to collect in this game -Each monster has its own immunities to specific swords. I list them for you. -Each sword can be powered up to level 2 or 3 by getting a ball or bracelet. -Using the bracelet's level 3 attack uses MP. -After you get a bracelet, the ball merges with the sword. -Your Armor and Shield Defense is not combined, like in most games........... Your Defense is shown as 2 numbers "x-x" The first x is your armor's defense + Your Level. The second x is your shield's defense + Your Level. Example: At level 5 with ONLY a +10 armor on. = "15-5" -You can only save in the overworld/towns. -Things are different prices in different towns. Always head to Leaf for the cheapest stuff! -If you get stuck, use telepathy, it will often give you a hint! -Beware of Pink monsters. They are USUALLY poisonous! -If you get poisoned in this game, you will die unless you have an antidote. -When having issues getting out of a dungeon, try "Hugging one direction" left or right. This usually will help you get out. -Certain armors have certain status effects. Check the guide for more info! -If you dont spend any money in this game, you will end up with about $40,000. (Random Fun Fact) -This game has 90% awesome music. You will have it echoing in your head for all of eternity. You will put it as your ringtone.. Savage war engulfs the world... civilization is destroyed... An evolution had taken place. The Earth's axis shifted and all creatures became mutated. Life would never be the same. Those surviving vowed not to repeat their mistakes of the past and erected a great tower in the sky... to oppress evil forever... *** Press Start *** 100 years have passed. Most of the Earth has become dominated by mutated creatures. People worked together to rebuild their villages and their lives, but they still lived in fear. As they feared the rebirth of evil, they remembered the construction of the tower and of its consequences once activation had begun. Once evil emerged, would they still stand a chance? There was still one hope.. *** Heh.. 256.. 1024.. n/m nerd joke. The first thing to do is name your character. I named my character Cait instead of Erica this time. If you hit continue insted of new, you start a new game with a character named ----. I wonder how many people actually used that as name because the *bleeping* controls for starting a game are so flippin weird? *** You come out of the cave and some guy is freakin' out cuz you are coming through the wall. "The wind here is always cold but we're used to it." -Red girl wearing minimal clothing "This is the village of Leaf. There are great dangers outside of town. Please be careful." -Little red girl wearing plenty of clothing. "Did you visit the elder's house yet?" -Red vest guy "If you go to the west, you will find Zebu in a cave." -Red vest guy who knows nothing about himself. *** Leaf 1.2: Go to the house top right side, and talk to the guy you can get $100 fo FREE! "You have finally awoken. This money is from the wise man Zebu. It's yours." -Bald Guy who has old money for many years. "I'm the first pupil of Zebu. You must bow down before me!" -Bald Guy who has old money abandonment issues. *** Leaf 1.3: Go to the house with the shed. Talk to the elder to get your very first sword; The Sword of Wind! "I am the village elder. You awoke from inside the cave didn't you? We were told you would arrive. You are our last hope to defeat evil. Receive this sword to protect you on your quest. This and others like it will guide you... You now have Sword of Wind." -Village Elder who now has no defences. "Please be careful. "Kyu Kyu" -Bunny hostage with identity crisis *** Leaf 1.4: Buy a shield or armor from the weapon store. (You can get the shield in the next town for $10 cheaper if you can survive without it) Equip the defensive unit you bought and your sword and head north! \ | /____________ o[===<{*}>___[Leaf]___> Outside of Town (Lv. 1) / | \ Time to kill slimies and lionlots! If you can do this I will teach you some magic." -Zebu, man who wait long time for only you. "Use your power to open the way." -Zebu, who is too lazy to do it himself? *** Leaf 1.7: Now head off for the cave to the north! (Note: There are two paths north.. a North west-ish and a north east-ish one.. take the north east-ish one.) You have to cross a bridge to get there. There's no monsters in the caves so don't worry too much. In the north cave (its red inside) Go until the path splits. Turn north and at the end will be a sleeping guy. Go to your items and "equip" the alarm flute. Play it and he'll wake up. "Huh? What was that? Don't do that again! It's you. Please don't tell Zebu. Take this to start the windmill. Zebu says a strange ball is hidden in these caves. He says it can break rock walls. You now have Windmill Key" -Man who is up all late doing something that isn't sleeping. *** -Leaf 1.8: Now go back to where the fork splits and go west to the windmill. Go inside, equip the key and use it. The windmill begins to work and a cave opens up. At this point, if you don't have the armor, buy that. And buy some medical herbs too. The cave to the next town is harder than slimies and lionlots. Or you could just be VERY VERY careful not to get hit. Spending all that time killing slimies + lionlots JUST for money may be boring.. Actually it is. *** Leaf 1.9: You can choose to go back and see Zebu to get your magic OR go to that north westernish cave that you just opened up. Zebu will telepath to you and give you REFRESH! Woo healing spell! To use Refresh, equip it, then press the A button! "You have done well. I will now teach you the magic of Refresh. Green Dragon Exp: 3 Gold: 4 o-------------o | /Monsters | o-------------o North warp is a chest with warp boots, but head south to another cave warp. The path splits into 4 ways now. To the south is a chest with an herb. To the east, then north is another chest but it's guarded by a ROCK MAN that throws his HEAD AT YOU! There's a diseased wall behind him, so you need the ball to fix it. o------------o | Monsters | o------------o Rock Man Exp: 4 Gold: 4 Sword Note: Fire/Water sword will not work Blue Bat: Exp: 1 Gold: 0 o------------o | /Monsters | o------------o To the south is the Ball of Wind! (You need this!) Careful, a hoard of blue bats that are HARDER THAN POO TO KILL await you. Equip the ball! Now charge your sword to "2" and blast the wall to get to the chest with the antidote. Note: EVEN IF you killed him before going down, he'll be back again. Same goes with the one going north at the previous fork. So watch out. You may have to move back a screen and regroup. The blue bats are on the attack too. Try only powering up to "1" and do short stabs to kill them' So my strategy for this WHOLE room is.. Go in.. Avoid the fork.. Go to the next fork.. go down, grab the ball of wind, and GET OUTTA THERE! lol.. Now when you get back to the original fork, the pink slimey and green dragon are waiting for you again.. so kill em.. and go back to that place where the first pink slimey was and blast the wall up. Now another fork. Left or right. If you go left: 2 pink slimies and a treasure chest w/ medical herb. If you go right: to the area.. There's a cave warp going up. that leads to the boss. and if you go right.. NOTHING! they fooled you!! haha.. So if you have the ability to, save right now cuz this boss may be hard. *** o------------o | Monsters | o------------o Vampire: Exp: 10 Gold: 0 Item: Rabbit Boots o-------------o | /Monsters | o-------------o Leaf 1.11: Alright so This boss.. a witch/vampire.. starts off easy.. she teleports around and you gotta blast her.. Easy enough. well after awhile she sends out those annoying blue bat things so equip refresh, refresh, and then finish her off. Did you know there's a cave behind the northern waterfall? Go there. I'll give you the Flute of Lime. Use it wisely. Be careful." -The Queen, finally. You need to be level 13 before you go any further. There's a lone Burgandy General here that respawns instantly if you walk up to the top of the castle wall there, and just walk down. Hug the wall to the right side, and hit the turbo "stab" button, and just walk down, hugging the right side of the wall. This battle is actually pretty difficult. Depending upon what sword you have equipped, depends what flavor of projectiles she shoots at you. It seems like this doesn't really have any definate effect.. You can kill off the little fires around here, but this seems to be about useless. 3 Direct hits of level 3 Fire spells will knock her out. (The little fires surrounding her are Sabera's defense against the Thunder Sword. If you actually cheat and get the Thunder Sword before you are supposed to, you can fight Sabera back at Evil Spirit Island with it. She doesn't have the little fires around her in that first battle, and you can hit her with Thunder. However, for this second confrontation, Level 3 fire is effective enough that it makes trying to use the Thunder Sword pretty pointless. And so it was that when the Great War engulfed the world, bringing civilization as we know it to an end, it ushered in the dawn of a new era. An era in which science and technology were shunned - for they had proven to be mankind's downfall - and the ancient arts of sorcery and magic were revived. [Portoa Picture] As the survivors slowly rebuilt their world, towns and villages began to spring up, and the wisest and most capable of the magicians used their magic to keep order. Peace reigned over the land for a hundred years... Until a powerful Magician named Draygon intrigued by the forbidden ways of science, began to study the principles of machines and flying. Realizing the power he might wield if he combined his magic with technology, his mind became twisted by the urge to control and dominate his fellow man. Draygon created a computer capable of simulating his magic powers. He placed it in a floating fortified tower; and from his airborne fortress, he built and controlled his growing empire, until the entire planet was threatened by his ever-spreading evil. In an attempt to combat Draygon, the other magicians constructed a series of powerful swords, along with powerful items to use with these swords. Based on the basic elements of the land - wind, fire, water, and thunder - the four swords if used together at full power, would transform into the next elemental stage - that of crystal. This would be the mightiest weapon ever created: the sword Crystalis. [Picture of Crystalis] Learning of their idea. Draygon seized the weapons; but they had made them too well, and he was unable to destroy them. Knowing they could only defeat him if used together. Draygon scattered the weapons throughout the land, and stripped the wise magicians of most of their powers. In desperation, they began to study the writings from the time of the Great War, where they learned of a great magician, the most powerful who ever lived. He had been imprisoned in a cave and frozen by the evil forces of the Great War, who had hoped to use his powers to control the world after the war. Searching the globe, the wise men found the cave, and were amazed to find that the mighty magician frozen within was a mere lad. Through they knew it might destroy them, they pooled all of their remaining power in an attempt to will him back to life. When the boy awoke his mind blank, even his name forgotten - they had vanished, leaving him to find his destiny in this strange new world. In CRYSTALIS, you play the role of the young magician, making your way through Draygon's hostile land in an effort to locate the weapons you will need to defeat him. Draygon's monsters and black magic will threaten you at every turn; but you must not falter - only you can deliver the world from his scourge of evil!
