C A S E B O O K 1 W A L K T H R O U G H ============================================================================= This portion of the walkthrough is for "Casebook 1" or "Deja Vu: A Nightmare Comes True." ----------- Codebook 1 ----------- - After getting a short little description of what is happening, you are ready to begin your adventure. Even though you don't know who you are. - You are in a restroom with a coat in front on you which matches your trousers. Take the Coat. Then take the .38 Special which was behind the Coat. - Open the Coat. Take Coins, Hanky, Sunglasses, and Wallet. Open the Wallet and take Key 1, Card, and $20-Bill. - The Hanky has the initial J.S on it. Who is J.S? And the Sunglasses are too big for you. The Card is for the private penthouse of some one named Siegel. - Now open the door in front of you and walk out. You should now be in the washroom. - Look into the mirror. You realize you don't know who the person looking back is! Open the door on the right and exit into the hallway. - The door to the left goes into the Women's Washroom. There is nothing there, just a broken toilet. - Open the door in front of you and exit to the front part of a restaurant. Open the door on the left side then go through it. - You will be in a cellar. On the left there is a bottle rack. Punch the only bottle on the right side. A secret passage should open up. Walk through it. - You will be in a secret room. Open the door on the left. That is all, walk back out the secret passage to the cellar and back out to the front. - Now lets go up the stairs to a dingy hall. - An enormous pain causes you to black out. Your headache is getting worse. We better do something about it. - Look at the 1st picture on the right. Hmm...Ace Harding...the name sounds familiar. Oh yeah that's us. But we don't know it yet. - Open the door that says "Private" and walk inside. You are now in a secretary's office. Open the desk drawer. Open Envelope 1 and look at the Bill inside. - The bill has an address, Sherman, which you acquire and its a invoice for some chemicals. Use Key 1 on the door to the left and enter through the door. - Whoa! Someone has been shot dead! He looks familiar but your headache prevents you from remembering. Open him up, well his coat pocket. Take Key 2. There is a safe on the left but we don't know the combination. For now open the desk drawer. - Take the Pencil and Key 3. We will need these later. Open the window and exit through it. - You are now on a fire escape. Walk forward one time, you will be on the third floor. Open the window on the right and go through it. - Hey, it looks like a torture room. What is it doing above a restaurant? Look at the vials on the right side. They sound vaguely familiar. Open the wastebasket on the left side. Take the Capsules. They will come in handy. - Use the button above the wastebasket to open the elevator door. Go inside the elevator. Use the button second to the bottom. As soon as the elevator stops exit the elevator. - Walk back to enter a casino. There are 2 slot machines. Avoid the one on the one on the right. Instead use the one on the left. Use the Coins on the left slot machine. Don't worry about losing coins. On this slot machine you will never end up with 0 coins. Keep playing until you have 25 to 30 coins. - After you are done playing walk out the door in front of you. Hey you are back out in the secret passage! Just keep walking out to the front part of the restaurant. - Use Key 3 on the front door to open it up. Walk out the door. If a mugger confronts you, punch his lights out. You can only do it 3 times. On the 4th meeting he blasts you if you try to punch him. So if you meet him a fourth time, give him the $20-Bill. Sometimes you may meet a bum, just walk past him. - So you should be in front of a car now. Open the door using Key 2. Get into the car. Don't touch anything except the glove compartment. Open it. - Look at all the things inside the compartment. Note 2 gives you Siegel's address at Westend. The Map gives you the restaurant address at Peoria. The map also says something about someone named Mrs. Sternwood being in the trunk of the car?!? The Snapshot is of a fat lady who looks familiar. Take the Snapshot and Map. Exit the car. - We can't open the car trunk yet. Instead keep walking to the left until you reach a taxicab. Walk inside the cab. Speak to the driver and go to Westend. Be sure to pay him some coins after he takes you there. - Exit the cab. You are now standing in front of an apartment complex. Open the door leading into the building. Walk inside. - You are now in a lobby. In front of you is a elevator and a slot on the right. Use the Card on the slot and the elevator door will open. Go inside and use the Card on the slot inside. After the elevator stops get out into a Penthouse suite. - Look at the photograph on top of the fireplace. You get the address, Kedzie. Let's go and investigate there. Exit all the way back down to the cab. - Talk to the driver and go to Kedzie. Pay before you exit the cab. - You will now be in front of a bungalow. The door is locked and we don't have a key for it. Use the .38 Special on the lock so it can open. Walk inside. - Once inside take the notes on the desk. Then open the desk and take Key 5 and the Diary. Open the Diary, now look at the diary. Just leave the bookmark in there. - The Diary is from some body named Martha, it says how she cannot stand Siegel's jealously and she has fell in love with John Sternwood. But she wishes she could get him to get rid of his wife. The notes have numbers on them, maybe for the safe at the restaurant. - Lets just go back into the cab. Talk to the driver and tell him to take you to Sherman. Pay before you exit. - You should now be in front of a Pharmacy with the numbers 934 above the door. Open up the door and go through it. - You are now in the lobby. Going up the stairs looks promising but go down the stairs to the right. Use Key 5 to open Dr. Brody's door and enter. - The cabinet on the left stands out but it is locked. No problem, whip out the .38 Special and blast it open. Examine the files in there. - File 1 says that Ace Harding was urged to quit smoking. Who is Ace Harding?!?! Oh yeah that's us, but we still don't know yet. But we will regain our memory soon enough. - File 2 is a receipt that says there will be a delivery to Joe's Place, the restaurant. Martha Vickers name is on it. Martha...could it be the same person who the Diary belongs to. - File 3 is unimportant. File 4 is a list of medicines. "Diethanol Trimene - causes memory loss." Hmm...I believe we saw a similar empty bottle in the torture room above the restaurant. We were drugged with this no doubt but what cures this? "Bisodiumitis - antidote to Diethanol Trimene, more than one dose needed." Hey that's what we need! See those bottles on the shelf, grab the ones that say Bisodiumitis. - There are only 3 of them. They are fat and brown. When you get them they are Medicine 6. Use one on the capsule and use the capsule on yourself. Do it 2 more times to regain your memory. Now you know you are Ace Harding, Private Eye! Take a bottle of Pentothal, Medicine 1. Now leave back to the lobby - Now take the stairs leading upstairs. You should be in front of your office. But wait someone is in there. Take no chance, blast them from the outside with the .38 Special. - Use Key 5 on the door to open it. Walk inside the office. Too bad we killed that guy, we never know who he is. - Open the cabinet on the left and examine the files. - File 5 says you owe someone some money and the only way to pay him off is through a kidnapping. What?! You don't remember owing someone money of ever having this here. File 6 is about how Sugar Shack hates Joey Siegel. J.S? Hey that makes sense. But who is Sugar Shack. File 7 is how you busted Sugar Shack. - Take File 5 since we don't know why File 5 is here. Go all the way back to the taxicab and ask him to take you to Peoria. Pay before you exit. - Keep turning right until you end up in front of Joe's Place and the car. Enter the restaurant. Walk back up the stairs to the dingy hall. Again look on the 1st picture on the right wall. Yep that was you when you were a boxer. And your manger was...Joey Siegel. Where is this guy anyway? - Walk in into the secretary's office and back into the office with the safe. Look at the dead guy now. Hey its Joey Siegel, J.S. So the secretary's office outside must be for Martha Vickers. So she ordered the medicines that drugged you. But why? - Use Note 3 to open the safe now. Open the folder and look at Note 1. You owe Joey Siegel money? What the?!?! You don't remember about this. Something weird is occurring. Take Note 1. - Open the Box and take Key 4. Hey, Key 4 is the trunk key for a car. Maybe the car outside? Walk back outside to the trunk of the car. - Use Key 4 to open the trunk of the car. It's a big fat lady. The same one from the snapshot. Its Mrs. Sternwood like the map said. Take the gag from her mouth. Use Medicine 1 on the capsules then use the capsules on her. - She starts babbling about home and gives her address. Good another address. Leave and keep going left to the taxicab. - Speak to the driver and tell him to take you to Auburn. After arriving don't forget to pay or you will end up in the slammer. - You are now in front of a huge estate. Open the mailbox, then open the envelope inside. Take the Letter and take a look at it. It's a ransom note to Mr. Sternwood about his wife. - Walk up to the door of the estate. Use the huge knocker to summon the butler. Punch his lights out and walk up the stairs. - You are now facing 2 doors. Open the door to the right and walk inside. Mr. Sternwood is in a deepsleep. Open the desk drawer and then open the envelope. Look at Letter 2. Sounds like someone is angry with Sternwood for taking a liking to Vickers. - Wait...didn't Vickers say in her Diary that Siegel was jealous? It seems this letter was from Siegel telling Sternwood to back off or the wife would find out. Interesting. - Open the door to the left to enter the guestroom. Its Martha Vickers! What is she doing here? Open the table and take the Memo. Use the Pencil on the Memo. The indentations on the sheet can now be read. - It's a timetable. What?!?!? Looks like you are being framed for kidnapping Sternwoood and murdering Siegel. Also it looks like Vickers herself took out Joey Siegel. They are making look like you owe Siegel money and kidnapping Mrs. Sternwood for ransom was the way you were going to get it. What a setup!!! - Open the door behind you and exit all the way back to the taxicab. Tell him to take you back to Peoria. Pay before you exit. - Keep going to the right until you reach the front of the restaurant. Open the manhole in front of you. Go down. Go down one more time. You should completely be in the sewer. Go forward. Then go down. You should be in the deepest part of the sewer. - Now we need to get rid of all the evidence that was planted to frame you. - Make sure you leave everything in the water that I say: - Leave the .38 Special since it was the murder weapon. It has your fingerprints on it and we have been using it also. - Leave the Hanky since it has the initials J.S on it. It was planted on you to make it seem you were the last one to deal with Siegel. Also it has your fingerprints. - Leave the Sunglasses. These things are way too big for you. It belongs to Siegel and has your fingerprints on them. - Leave the Map. This was planted in the car with Mrs. Sternwood to make it seem you were kidnapping her. - Leave the Snapshot. It is the picture of Mrs. Sternwood. It was planted in the car to make it seem you kidnapped her. - Leave File 5 since it is a fake debt. It makes it seem that you were the one kidnapping Mrs. Sternwood to pay off Siegel. - Leave Note 1. It is a fake IOU. It was planted to make it seem you owed Siegel money. - With that done, lets head back to the streets. Walk up the sewer. You will now have a choice of Left, Up, Right. Go left. Now go up the latter. Go up the ladder again to reach the streets. - Now you will be in front of the car again. Go to the right. If you encounter a prostitute, named Sugar Shack, just punch her lights out. She planted devices in the car to make it explode when you touch some parts and wants to kill you. - Keep going right until you end up at the Police Station. - Before you do anything make sure you have these items: - The Diary. This diary incriminates Vickers since she says she wants to get rid of Mrs. Sternwood. - Letter 1. It is a ransom note but it seems it incriminates you. You need it anyway. - The Memo. This is the timetable. Without this you are screwed! This practically shows they had a plan to frame you and it shows how they did it. - Hopefully you got everything. Walk up to the door and the rest is history. ============================================================================= 3. C A S E B O O K 2 W A L K T H R O U G H ============================================================================= This portion of the walkthrough is for "Casebook 2" or "Deja Vu II: Lost in Las Vegas." ----------- Casebook 2 ----------- - After a brief explanation of the situation you are once again off on your journey. - Again you start off in the bathroom but this time you pretty much are naked. Take the Pants. Open the Pants pocket. Take Key 1. - Now Open Wallet 1. Take Newsclip 1, 25 Cents, 12 Dollars and License 1. - Look at License 1 which gives you the address Adison. - Look at Newsclip 1 which gives you the adress Peoria. - Now use the Pants on yourself. Take the Trenchcoat that was beside it and use it on yourself also. Okay, we are now ready to explore. - Open the door and walk out. You are now in a hotel room. Suddenly a guy appears, its Stogie, one of Malone's men who is keeping an eye on you. - He leaves a cigar ring on the ground. Take Cigar Ring. - Take the Timetable from the drawer. Look at the Timetable to get the address to the Chicago Train Station. Open the Timetable to get a listing of the fares. - Now Open the small desk next to the bed. Take Paper 1. Something directed to Stogie but it doesn't make much sense. - Open the door to the left and exit the room. You are now in the hallway. Open the door in front of you, not the side ones. Exit through the door. - You should now be in the Lobby. Walk to the left to arrive in front of the Cashier. - Use $12 dollars on the cashier to get 2 chips. Now walk to the left to arrive in front of a Dealer. - Now Open Newsclip 1. Take Newsclip 2 which fell out and Use it on the dealer. The dealer face should now show a smile. He is your old boxing buddy and your luck for cash is about to change!! - Use the Chips on the dealer. Bid the maximum amount of chips you have. But the maximum you will be able to use is 10. Keep hitting until you have 21. Dealer will usually lose or bust. *NOTE* As I wrote this and was playing the game, the dealer got a Blackjack when I bid 8 chips which was all I had. I lost all my chips. If this happens it seems like you must go out into the desert and find some cash. The easy way to go to the desert is talking to the dealer after you have no more chips. He won't let you play for free. So attempt to punch him in the face. You miss and a bodyguard throws you out. Now walk to the right until you can't anymore. You should be in the desert. Now walk to the left. If a message saying you got $10 dollars appears go back into the casino and get your chips. If not walk back to the right and then left until you get a message telling you that you got $10 dollars. *NOTE* - Play until you have 90-100 chips. Or until the dealer tells you someone is looking at you win too much. Go back to the cashier and exchange the chips for money. - You should now have tons of money and there will be no need to worry about it anymore. - Walk back out into the lobby and exit to the door behind you. - Walk to the right to reach the train station. Open the door and walk through it. Walk to the right to the baggage claim. - Take the Pamphlet and Open it to find out about the terms used when trains arrive and leave. Now look at the sign above and try to find Chicago Boarding or Arrived. Make note of the Gate number as well. - Walk to the appropriate gate and board the train if it is already there. Enter the train and wait for it to leave. - When the conductor approaches you pay him $20 dollars for the fare. Look around until the train starts moving. You fall to sleep until you arrive. - Now walk back out to the exit station. Use the Coin you have on the blind newspaper clerk and take either one of the newspaper. Look at the Newsclip to get another address, the Morgue. - Open the door behind you and exit. Walk into the Taxi Cab. The Taxi Driver will take you anywhere for free. Speak to him and tell him to take you to Adison. - Exit the Taxi Cab. You should be in front of a apartment complex. Open the door and walk through it. - You are now in a hallway. Use Key 1 on the door ahead of you. Walk into the apartment. - Looks like Stogie searched your apartment. Take the Flashlight off the ground. Now Open the desk drawer on the ground. Take the Knife and Key 2. Open Box 1 and take the 6 bullets. - Now on above the couch is a coat. Open the coat's pocket. Take the Gun, $10 dollars and 50 cents. Don't forget to grab the Cigar ring off the ground before you leave. - Walk back out to the Taxi Cab, this time tell him to take you to Peoria. - Exit the Cab. We are back out in front of Joe's Bar. Time to start searching. Walk to the dark alley next to the Bar. - Climb the fire escape. You should be standing on the fire escapes ledge. To the right there are some boards on the window. Hit one of the boards and it should fall. Walk through the window. - We are now in the office. Open the telephone on the right and take Key 4. Nothing left to do here, just walk back down to the alley. Walk to the lower left to be behind the Bar. There should be a Door on the right. - Open the Knife. Yes, the blade of the knife is folded in. Now use the knife on the door to pry it open. Walk through the door. - In the corridor there are 2 doors. One has boards and the other doesn't. Open the door without the boards. Before you walk through it, Use the flashlight on yourself. Now walk through the door. - We are in the main part of the Bar. Open the door to the left leading to the storage cellar. Walk through the door. - On the side there are bottles of wine. Hit the only bottle on the right side of the rack. The rack should slide to the side and a hidden passage is now visible. - Walk through the passage to land in some chamber. Open the round door to the left and walk through it. Back inside the old casino where we had to win coins. - Use Key 4 on the slot machine to the right. Take the Card and Diary. Look at the card and you should get a new address, Cottage. Its the house of the prostitute from Deja Vu: A Nightmare Comes True. - If you Look at the Diary, it is a list of payments. Doesn't make much sense now. - Hurry and leave the bar all the way back to the alley. Hopefully the flashlight does not turn off on you. Now that we are outside. Go back to the Taxi and go to the address Cottage. - Exit the cab, you should be in front of a another apartment complex. To the left are stairs leading down to a door. Use the Knife to unlock the door. Walk through the door. - We are now in Sugar Shack's place. Take Newsclip 5 on the bed. It is opened to the obituaries but one of them is cut out. Open the Clothes Wardrobe on the left. Take the Cops Uniform. - Open the Vaccum and take the Bag out. Use the Knife on the bag. Open Envelope 3 and take Letter 3. - Its a letter from Captain McMurphy of the Police. He states that he was the bagman for Siegel who was paying off Captain Carlston. He was trying to set up some racketeering. - That is all. Go back to the taxi cab and tell him to take you to the Morgue. Exit the cab when you arrive. Before you enter you need to put on the uniform. Use the pants and trenchcoat on yourself again to take them off. Then Use the uniform on yourself to put them on. We are now ready to enter the Morgue. - Open the Morgue door and Walk through it. Open the small gate blocking your path. Now Open the door behind the gate. Walk through the door. - Open the door with "2" marked above it. If you Look at the body you see that it is the guy with a scar on his face from Letter 3. Take his toe tag which is Name Tag 2. Go back out to the Morgue desk. - Use Name Tag 2 on the clerk. He tells you what happened to the guy and brings out his belongings in a box. Open the box. Take Key 5. Open the Wallet and take the $10 dollars, License 2 and Claim Ticket. Exit the Morgue. - Use the uniform on yourself to take off the clothes. Now put on the pants and trenchcoat again. Get back in the Taxi Cab, go back to the Chicago Train station. - Enter the train station. Above the newspaper stand is a sign with the train schedules. Find the one that has Las Vegas Inbound or Boarding. Make note of the gate number. - Find the gate, wait to board or board the train. Get in the train and pay the conductor $20 dollars to go to Las Vegas. - Look around until the train starts moving. Stogie may appear telling you to hurry up or you will miss the deadline. When it stops you get off the train. - Now walk to the baggage claim attendent. Use the Claim Ticket on the attendent. He brings out a suitcase. Open the Suitcase. Then open the Laundry. - Inside is a photo of Siegel shaking hands with some guy with the intials D.V. in front of a cleaners shop. Open the Envelope 1 and take Letter 1. - Leave and go back in front of the Lucky Dice Casino. Walk through the front doors. Now walk through the door on the upper right. To the left are the elevator doors, Use the elevator button. Get in the elevator. - Use the button marked for the 3rd Floor. Nothing to do here except open the lid from Reliant Cleaners. The idea is to get inside it hoping someone will take the cart to the cleaners. Walk inside the cart. Now close the lid. Now we will play the waiting game.... - Look around until someone starts pushing the cart. After a short ride the lid is open and 2 thugs are right there!! The frisk you, take the letter addressed to Malone and tie you up!! - Look to the lower left to find a crate with nails sticking out. Use the crate on your hands to free yourself. Now go up the stairs to the right. You are now in the main hall. Open the front door and go back downstairs. Jump into the crate and stay there until they leave. - Now that they are gone go back upstairs. Open the counter on the right then Open the door on the right. You should now be in a office. - If you look on the photo on the desk you find out that D.V. is Danny Ventini, Tony Malone's right hand man. Open the Desk, Open Box 3. Take the Button which is some kind of magnet. Exit out the Cleaners through the front door. - Keep walking right until you reach the Casino. Walk all the way back into the elevator. Use the button above the elevator buttons. You automatically start moving to the upper floor. - Walk out the elevator into the 4th Floor. When you exit you get the short story about Malone and Ventini. Open the door on the left leading to Ventini's office. - Open the Desk. Take Key 6, Record 1 and the Opener. Record 1 is a list of payments with their courier. Just like the Diary before, but the payments are different this time around. - Take the Paperweight on the desk. Now Hit the Paperweight. It becomes a dart now and rest is discarded. Get back into the elevator and take off the button that leads to the fourth floor. Leave the Casino and go back to the cleaners. - Since we can't open the front door, Use Key 6 on the side door. Walk through the door. We are now back in the basement level. Walk upstairs and back into the office. - Use the Dart on the Dartboard. Hey! A Secret passage once again. Walk through the passage. - You are now in a secret office of Danny Ventini's. Open the Desk, take back Letter 1, Record 2 and Paper 2. Now its time to start framing people for crimes. - Drop a Cigar Ring on the desk. To make it seem like Malone's man Stogie has been in his office. Now go all the way back to the 4th Floor of the Casino. - To the right, is another door we did not go through earlier. Its Tony Malone's office. Open the door and Walk through it. - There is nothing in the office but drop a few things in here. Drop the Diary which shows bogus the real payments. Drop Letter 3 which is the McMurphy letter. Drop Letter 1 which is a letter from the guy from the Morgue address to Malone. - Now get out of the casino. Don't forget, before your leave the 4th Floor to take off the button on the elevator. Be quick, do not do anything except leave. Or you may end up dead. - There are 2 ways to finish the game. From the front of the Casino start walking back until a message tells you are far away and no one spotted you. - Or you can go to the train station, board any train going anywhere. - Enjoy the ending to the game.... ============================================================================= 4.
