Credits ======================================== 1. Introduction ======================================== Hello. In case you don't go to the GameFAQ Boards and haven't seen my contributor info or Fire Emblem FAQs, I am Juigi, elder half of the Kario Brothers, who are ripoffs of the Mario Brothers (from the Mario series). My email address is juigikario@yahoo.com . But enough of that. Game Boy Wars 3 is the 4th Game Boy (Color) installment of the Wars series. There have been 9 installments for the Wars series: Famicom Wars (the very first one, for the NES/Famicom), Super Famicom Wars (for the SNES/SFC), Game Boy Wars 1 through 3, Game Boy Wars Turbo (which is the actual 2nd or 3rd GB(C) installment), Advance Wars 1 & 2, and DS Wars (which actually isn't out yet as this FAQ has been written). Of course, most of the Wars series has gone even more unnoticed to most Americans than Fire Emblem, especially the GBW installments, which had various differences from the more normal half of the Wars series. The Mechanics FAQ is being written to help the player better understand Gameboy Wars 3 without having to go through the trouble of going through the menus. Oh yeah, about me: *RN: Not publically disclosed *A/S/L: 18 as of July 9/M/San Pablo (SF Bay Area), CA *How to contact me: -Email: juigikario@yahoo.com -AOL: Juigi Kario -YIM: Not disclosed -MSN: figaro_brothers@hotmail.com -ICQ: Not used *Major GameFAQ contributions: Fire Emblem 1 FAQs (3-part Walkthrough, Basic and Mechanics FAQ, Character FAQ, Class FAQ, Item/Weapon FAQ, Shop/Arena FAQ, and Talis Quest Walkthrough) and the FE Series FAQ And by the way, DO NOT SEND THE FOLLOWING TO MY EMAIL ADDY OR IM ME WITH THE FOLLOWING: *Anything over half a Megabyte without me approving of it first. My box is already using almost half of the space, and I constantly get spam too. *ANYTHING answered in my Fire Emblem Series FAQ. Effectively, this means asking anything about characters being defeated, Marth and Roy, and Marcus (who is a JEIGAN) is grounds for getting blocked IMMEDIATELY with NO chance of being an exception, not even if the email was a joke email. (Effective as of first release for Fire Emblem 7 Weapons/Items FAQ.) *Flames. They will not be tolerated. You will instead get counterflamed AND blocked. *Criticism unless it is good enough. It won't be tolerated either, but you'll just be blocked. *Spam. I get enough of it already. You'll be counterspammed, flamed, AND blocked all at once, and if you think of blocking me first, I'll report you to your email service if you do this. *Prejudice. Yes, I am listing this and I'm sick of it to no end. Long story. If you decide to be prejudiced, you'll be reported. *Any information I find/know to be false. You will be malleted as a warning, and if you continue, you'll be blocked as well. *Any unreasonable attempts to be funny. This includes but is not limited to "I can't get in the FAQ. Get in it for me, Juigi", "I have a suggestion: EVERYBODY dies", and such. None of that is funny, and instead, you will be blocked on the spot if you even try. ======================================== 2. Version Notes ======================================== *Version 0.97 (6/3/2005) - Initial release. Mostly completed. Just missing a few things, although it's technical stuff. ======================================== 3. (Too bad Infantry are worth only 100G here instead of 1000G, however.) -There are 4 unlisted "weapons" here: Construct, Supply, Anti-Land Bomb, and Anti-Land Missile. -Supply - 50G, can supply units but they must be suppliable to the supplying unit -Construct - 5G + 1M, can be used for: -Develop Property (1 Construct used, increase Property's Strength by 10) -Pave (1 Construct used for each space for every 1.5 Movement Power required) -Build one of the following -Bridge (on Rivers, 2 Construct) -Special Airport (2 Construct + normal Pave cost, terrain must be Paveable) -Plains (on Forests/Deserts/Wasteland, 1 Construct) -Develop Property also repairs demolished properties, at a price of 2 Construct instead of 1 -Anti-Land Bombs/Missiles - each 100G, Bomb has a Range of 0 and Missile has a range of 3-7, each can target a specific space in Range and deal the following effects to the targeted space and the surrounding spaces: -Road - turn to Wasteland -Plains - turn to Wasteland -Forest - turn to Plains -Mountain - no effect -Desert - no effect -Wasteland - no effect -City/Factory/Airport/Harbor (Bomb) - -15 Strength, demolished if it hits 0 Strength this way -Special Airport (Bomb) - -15 Strength, turn to Plains if it hits 0 Strength this way -Radar Station (Bomb) - -15 Strength, cannot hit 0 Strength this way -HQ (Bomb) - -15 Strength, cannot hit 0 Strength this way -City/Factory/Airport/Harbor (Missile) - -25 Strength, demolished if it hits 0 Strength this way -Special Airport (Missile) - turns to Plains -Radar Station (Missile) - -25 Strength, cannot hit 0 Strength this way -HQ (Missile) - -25 Strength, cannot hit 0 Strength this way -Bridge - turn to River, any land unit on it dies automatically -Watery terrain - no effect -Non-War Vehicles (Bomb) - -2 HPs -War Vehicles (Bomb) - -1 HP -Non-War Vehicles (Missile) - -3 HPs -War Vehicles (Missile) - -2 HPs -Sea Ships - -1 HP ======================================== 6. Formulas ======================================== This is the section for technical stuff that may be confusing. ---------------------------------------- Attacking ---------------------------------------- -Be aware that (as far as I know) there is no randomness. All results will round down. -The used weapon's ATK vs. the defending unit's Category is ATK. -The attacking unit's HP is AHP. -The defending unit's DEF vs the attacking unit's Category is DEF. *Basic damage formula: -ATK * AHP / (DEF * 2) This means Infantry vs. Infantry will come out with 5 HPs on each side in normal conditions. But that's not considering the other factors in the damage formula: Terrain, Siege, and EXP. -Note that the following are approximations. -Terrain reduces HP damage by 0.5 HPs for every 10 points of Terrain. Terrain boost is GEO. (Short for GEOgraphy.) Note that this is multiplied by the defending unit's HP (DHP) divided by 10. (This means that Terrain boosts get weaker as HP drops.) -Siege penalty will reduce ATK % by 1% for every -1, and also when the unit is on the defense, it will take 0.5 HPs of damage automatically for each -10 of the penalty. Attack penalty from Siege is ASG and Defense penalty from Siege is DSG. Bear in mind that the defense penalty is multiplied by DHP divided by 10. (Yes, the defense penalty from Siege penalty is weakened.) -EXP will boost ATK by about 10% per 100 EXP (but up to 400 EXP) and reduce HP damage by 0.5 HPs per 100 EXP (but up to 400 EXP, again). The ATK boost is AXP, while the DEF boost is DXP. Note that DXP is affected by DHP the same way that GEO and DSG are. -Bear in mind that all of the bonuses/penalties may be decreased to 9/10 of the shown bonuses if not more. So here's the attack formula: -[ATK * ((100 + ASG + AXP) / 100) * AHP / (DEF * 2)] - GEO - DSG - DXP (Note that DSG will be a negative number if it isn't 0.) Oh yeah. When attacking a surrounded unit, your unit will also get a slight attack boost based upon the attack power of the other units that's helping with the Siege. I don't know what the boost is, though. ---------------------------------------- Experience ---------------------------------------- This is a LOT easier. All I had to do was look up the address of Red Star Unit 1's EXP, which turned out to be 00:F00A, and voila. Now I know that 100 EXP is required for each Rank Up. Note that I used the address 00:F03A to get out the Bombing EXP amount. *Attack - 3 EXP + 1 EXP per HP taken off (NOTE: not tested too well; it may be different with other units attacking) *Transport - 1 EXP per space moved with ANYTHING Loaded *Capture - 1 EXP per HP *Build - 1 EXP per HP *Develop - 1 EXP per HP *Supply - 1 EXP per HP *Bomb - 1 EXP per HP Paving does NOT gain the Constructor any EXP, if you must know. ======================================== 7. Map Edit Mode ======================================== This mode is accessed by choosing MAP on the main menu. Here's how the menu is organized: Edit Copy Give Play Delete Accept Give and Accept are both commands involving usage of the Mobile System GB, and I'm sure you can guess what they do, along with the other commands. (If you're confused, Play allows you to test-play a map, although White Moon will be played by the AI.) And BTW, yes, you can have 10 maps saved onto your cart (or SAV file if you're using the ROM, which is more than likely). Now onto the Editing itself. Select brings up the map zoomed out and B allows you to change Terrain. Start will bring up a menu organized like this: Arrangement Mode Map Size Gold Materials Map's Name Fill Out Save Close *Arrangement Mode - this allows you to choose whether you work on the map or create units. There's a shortcut, though; when you're choosing which Terrain/Unit to add, you can press Select and you change Arrangement Modes. *Map Size - the top is the Width, and the bottom is the Length. You can choose any number from 20 to 50 for each one. *Gold/Materials - you can choose how much Gold/Materials each country starts out with. This can be used for allowing both sides to deploy a few powerful units early on. *Map's Name - some player-made maps are too good to not be named. Ergo, you have this option, which allows you to name a map. *Fill Out - you can only use this with non-property terrain. This allows you to Fill Out a rectangular shape of the area. You choose one corner of the rectangle, and then the opposite corner. *Save - this will save the map in its state. *Close - this gives you a choice: "Save & Quit", "Quit w/o Saving", and "Cancel". Naturally, you'll go back the the Edit Map selection screen. The terrain is arranged like this on the terrain selection screen: -Properties (Red Star) -Properties (White Moon) -Properties (Neutral) -Land Terrain -Water-related Terrain And the units on the unit selection screen: -Land units (Red Star) -Air units (Red Star) -Sea units (Red Star) -Land units (White Moon) -Air units (White Moon) -Sea units (White Moon) -Delete - used to remove units ======================================== 8. Credits ======================================== I give high thanks to Kotetsu213 for getting me to play this, albeit unwittingly. Also, Jeffrey's Japanasese TAF English Dictionary, at http://www.solon.org/cgi-bin/j-e , deserves credit for allowing me to translate some of the things. (FYI, TAF means To And From. If I typed TAF as the site's name said and somebody posted the name of the site because of my FAQ, then the HTML would consider it to be a - tag, which doesn't exist.)
