I was glad to see this FAQ got an empty blue dot on its first post, showing a glimmer of hope into the future. I do plan to improve this FAQ so its rating should rise. I hope you find this FAQ has what you are looking for, and I hope it becomes a symbolic step on my long road to being a prolific author. Enjoy the guide! =============================================================================== Section 4: Robot Information =============================================================================== Here are all the stats on the robots in the game. You can view them when you are selecting your robot by pressing Select. There is also information on how I'd use the robot and how I'd beat it. Sir Chromalot Weight: 78.5kg Dimensions: 0.32 by 0.60m Ground clearance: 0.10m Power: 6 Drill motors Weapon: Cobalt cutter Tips for usage: The cutter has the potential to do damage, and this robot is a good choice for ramming. Tips for beating this robot: Try attacking the sides or rear of this robot, the cutter can be dangerous. Milly-Ann-Bug Weight: 76.3kg Dimensions: 0.36 by 1.16 by 0.61m Ground clearance: 0.01m Power: 4 electric 750w motors Weapon: Steel spikes Tips for usage: The spikes are good for inflicting damage; it would make a good rammer. Though beware of side attacks. Tips for beating this robot: The sides are the best place to attack this robot, as they are wide open. Big Cheese Weight: 79.7kg Dimensions: 0.57 by 1.47 by 0.94m Ground clearance: Variable Power: 7hp Disk cutter engine Weapon: Hydraulic lifting arm and spike Tips for usage: The flipper is hard to use on this robot, though get it right and you will score an instant win. Try ramming if the flipper doesn't work for you. Tips for beating this robot: Avoid the flipper of this robot at all costs, it can be deadly. Attack the sides or the rear. Purple Predator Weight: 76kg Dimensions: 0.73 by 1.60 by 0.98m Ground clearance: 0.02m Power: 24v motor Weapon: Flip arm and saw Tips for usage: This flipper isn't as good as Big cheese's, but it can be just as deadly. Try ramming if you don't like the flipper. Tips for beating this robot: As with Big cheese, attack the sides and back. Panic Attack Weight: 79.5kg Dimensions: 0.62 by 1.30 by 0.67m Ground clearance: 0.02m Power: 2 electric motors Weapon: Lifting spikes Tips for usage: The spikes can be used to do damage or flip opponents. This is a good combination to use! Tips for beating this robot: Attack the sides and back of this robot. X-Terminator Weight: 79.8kg Dimensions: 0.52 by 0.85 by 0.62m Ground clearance: 0.015m Power: 2 car motors Weapon: Pneumatic spike Tips for usage: X-Terminator has one of the best weapons in the game, as it can deal damage from a distance. Use this weapon wisely! Tips for beating this robot: Keep well away from the weapon, it can be deadly. Always attack this robot from the sides or the back. Chaos 2 Weight: 71.3kg Dimensions: 0.38 by 0.93 by 0.62m Ground clearance: 0.07m Power: 2 electric motors Weapon: CO2 powered flipper Tips for usage: Chaos 2 has probably got the best flipper, though like all flippers it is difficult to use. Try to practice using the flipper. Tips for beating this robot: Avoid the flipper, it can be lethal. Attack this robot from the sides or the back. Behemoth Weight: 78kg Dimensions: 0.52 by 0.97 by 0.63m Ground clearance: 0.02m Power: Pneumatic CO2 system Weapon: Twin axes Tips for usage: You use the scoop of behemoth, not the twin axes. This scoop can be useful for flipping robots, though it is inaccurate like all flippers. Tips for beating this robot: Attack the sides and back as the flipper can be lethal. Pussycat Weight: 69.9kg Dimensions: 0.56 by 0.76 by 0.43m Ground clearance: Variable Power: 2 750w motors Weapon: Diamond edge saw Tips for usage: I think that these circular saws just don't work. If you're going to win with pussycat, it will be with pure skill. Tips for beating this robot: You have nothing to fear with this robot so just attack full force. Dundee Weight: 79.3kg Dimensions: 0.51 by 1.21 by 0.66m Ground clearance: 0.03m Power: 2 12v motors Weapon: Cutter and ram Tips for usage: Again, this robot seems to have non-working weaponry. You'll have to use pure skill to win. Tips for beating this robot: You have nothing to fear, attack this robot at full force. Thermidor II Weight: 79.9kg Dimensions: 0.34 by 1.48 by 0.72m Ground clearance: 0.03m Power: 2 car motors Weapon: Pincers and spike Tips for usage: This pincers have potential to do damage, though you may have to use a lot of skill to get much from this robot. Tips for beating this robot: The weapon isn't much to worry about, but don't let down your guard or you'll be on the losing side. Scutters Revenge Weight: 79kg Dimensions: 0.35 by 1.30 by 0.85m Ground clearance: Variable Power: 2 2hp starter motors Weapon: Bulldozer blade Tips for usage: The bulldozer blade is a good flipper, but like all flippers it is hard to operate and use. Tips for beating this robot: Stay away from the flipper, it can be lethal. Take it down as you would with other flipper robots and attack the sides and back. Terminal Ferocity Weight: 71kg Dimensions: 0.43 by 1.08 by 0.65m Ground clearance: 0.25m Power: 2 24v wheelchair motors Weapon: Blade and saw Tips for usage: That saw is very ineffective, it barely qualifies as a weapon. You will have to use pure skill to win battles with this robot. Tips for beating this robot: You have nothing to fear as the weapon can do virtually no damage. Attack it with as much force as possible. Crasha Gnasha Weight: 63.1kg Dimensions: 0.66 by 1.98 by 0.68m Ground clearance: 0.30m Power: 2 24v wheelchair motors Weapon: Powered saw Tips for usage: This is another robot with an ineffective weapon. Use your skill and look at the battle tips section for ways to win with this robot. Tips for beating this robot: Ignore the weapon and just attack! Firestorm Weight: 67.9kg Dimensions: 0.29 by 0.97 by 0.82m Ground clearance: 0.06m Power: 3 12v motors Weapon: Flipper arm Tips for usage: That flipper can win you many battles, if you can get it to flip the opponent. Practice using that flipper to make the most of it. Tips for beating this robot: As with all robots with flippers, avoid the front and attack the sides and back. Diotoir Weight: 79kg Dimensions: 0.66 by 0.91m Ground clearance: 0.00-0.02m Power: 2 24v motors Weapon: Spring arm Tips for usage: That flipper is strong, but inaccurate. Just practice with it until you're tossing robots everywhere. Tips for beating this robot: Again, avoid the front and attack the sides and back. Trust me, you do not want to be caught by that flipper. =============================================================================== Section 5: Building Custom Robots =============================================================================== You can build your own robots in this game, though your component choice is limited. Here is a list of all the components, the game's description of them, and what I think of them. -Shells- Name: Domed body shell Game description: Light weight and strong. My opinion: The egg is a stronger alternative, though this is good for mounting weaponry. Name: Classic Wedge Game description: Good for going in under opponents. My opinion: A must for people who like flippers, although the narrow wedge is a good alternative. Name: Narrow Wedge Game description: Good ground clearance and tough. My opinion: The shape and ground clearance makes it brilliant for flippers. Try this instead of the classic wedge. Name: The egg Game description: Compact and rounded. Blows just get deflected. My opinion: Blows don't get deflected, but this is strong armor. I prefer this to the domed body shell. -Motors- Name: Small motor Game description: Fast but not very strong. My opinion: Strength doesn't matter for a motor, go with this or the car starter motor. Name: Car starter motor Game description: Fast and strong but a high power drain. My opinion: You could try this; I just stick with the small motor. Name: Lawn mower motor Game description: Strong and steady. My opinion: And slow. Believe me, you're better off with the small or car starter motor. Name: Wiper motor Game description: Slow and strong. My opinion: Again, go with one of the faster motors. Name: Winding motor Game description: Very strong and very slow. My opinion: The creators of this game seem to like slow motors. Just go with a fast motor, unless you like being sluggish and slow. -Ratio- Name: High/Medium/Low Ratio Game description: N/A My opinion: The high ratio is the fastest, just stick with that. -Weapons- Name: Spiked hammer Game description: Can cause a lot of body damage. My opinion: This is a good weapon for inflicting damage. Name: Circular saw Game description: Slices through bodywork. My opinion: I don't see how this works in the game, just choose another weapon. Name: Hardened spike Game description: Can punch through to workings. My opinion: A nice variation on the spiked hammer. Why not give it a go? Name: Flipper Game description: Turn your enemy upside down. My opinion: A good weapon if you have a wedge shell, it doesn't cause much damage, and it is hard to work; though if you use it correctly you can get an instant win. =============================================================================== Section 6: Battle Tips =============================================================================== Here are some hints and tips for winning every robot wars battle you take part in. 1. Use arena obstacles to inflict damage. The arena can be deadly to CPU opponents. Just try to lure them onto the flame pit or the CPZ. The computer will follow you anywhere, and can receive lethal damage from these hazards. 2. Avoid arena obstacles. Of course, the same applies to you, avoid arena hazards at all costs. 3. Getting out of CPZs. If you happen to ignore tip 2, this could be where you end up. Fortunately, the computer will follow you here as well, and you can slip away as they receive damage. 4. Avoid locking onto your opponent. The computer will always try to lock into the front of your robot and use it's weapon. Avoid this, you'll always come out with the most damage. You can try to lock onto the side or rear of your opponent, as those sides tend to be unarmed. 5. There are no self righting mechanisms. If you get flipped, the battle ends regardless of whether or not your robot has a self righting mechanism or not. So avoid being flipped at all costs! You can be flipped by flippers (obviously), and spikes in the arena if you are on them when they rise. Of course, you can try to flip your opponent, although it is very difficult. 6. When low on health, flee. If you happen to be low on health avoid the other robot and arena obstacles at all costs. Try to lure the other robot onto arena obstacles and damage your opponent in other ways. Here's an arena map for you to plan your tactics with. ---------------------------------------------------- |Sergeant Bash's Matilda's | | CPZ CPZ | | | | * | | The Pit | |-- | | | |-- * Flame pit | | * | |-- | | | | | | | | | |Sir Killalot's Dead Metal's| | CPZ CPZ | ---------------------------------------------------- * Arena spikes =============================================================================== Section 7: Trial Tips =============================================================================== There are four mini games in Robot wars for you to have a go at. Here is a list of the games, what you have to do, and the best way of doing it. -Skittles- What you have to do: To complete this challenge you have to knock down all the skittles in the fastest time possible. The best way of doing it: Don't drive forward! You'll end up in the pit. Turn around and hit the skittle there, from there drive left and hit the skittle above Matilda's zone and drive past her. Hit all the skittles in this area and drive past Matilda again. Drive up and hit the two skittles above the pit. Drive up to the top left corner and hit all the skittles there. Drive to the right of the arena and hit the skittle there, drive up and past Sergeant Bash and hit all the skittles in this area and you're done! Of course, you don't have to follow my route, just hit the skittles in a certain pattern. -Sumo- What you have to do: The aim of this game is to try and push your opponent out of the sumo circle, before your opponent does this to you. The best way of doing it: The computer will act as though this is a normal battle, and will try to reduce your health quickly. You can do this, but pushing them out is much quicker and easier. To do this, try to lure the computer to the edge by driving round the outside of the circle. The computer will follow you as always, and when they get close enough to the edge try to ram them off the platform. -Slalom- What you have to do: In the slalom you have to drive over flame jets which turn on and off, you must drive over all the flame jets to complete the challenge. The best way of doing it: I hate this challenge. You mustn't drive over a flame jet when it is active or you will receive severe damage. It is best to do this in order (go over each flame jet as they come), and stick to the path. It's all a question of luck with this one. Just don't get torched and you'll be fine. -Gauntlet- What you have to do: All you have to do is reach the end of the gauntlet, avoiding the obstacles as you go. The best way of doing it: Go for the right path, it is by far the quickest and easiest way to the finish. All you have to do is drive past the house robots (do this by driving to the left or right of the house robot) and avoid the pits and you'll complete the course. The middle path has an annoying winding path, with spikes and house robots to slow you down. The left path has a narrow path with angle grinder and house robots to greet you at the end of the path (this makes driving to left or right of them harder). Just use the right path. =============================================================================== Section 8: Contacting Me =============================================================================== If you have a problem or question that hasn't been answered in this FAQ, then you contact me by e-mail address (frkinbig@aol.com).
