This one covers the GameBoy game Foreman for Real, in which your goal is to wrest the heavyweight champion title away from George Foreman. George Foreman is one of the most famous boxers of all-time, probably second only to Muhammad Ali. He has won the gold medal in the Olympic for boxing in 1968 and has amassed a lifetime record of 74 wins and only 4 losses. He became world heavyweight champion at age 25 in 1973, and continued his boxing wins in the 1990s, even as he aged beyond his competitors. He is also the oldest boxing heavyweight champion. And you have to fight 'im. Crappy intro aside, let's get this FAQ on the road. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Two: Version History **GFOREMAN_2** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Final - First and likely only version of this FAQ completed. 10:42 PM 10/29/2012 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Three: Legalities **GFOREMAN_3** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= This FAQ may not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use. In the end, it ends up being a rather similar process for each. After choosing your mode, you'll have to pick a person to fight. They are ranked from best to worst as you go to the right. Use the Left/Right Buttons to choose a fighter, and Up/Down to see various statistical info. Press Select when you have the desired person to fight as, then again when you find the person you want to compete against. Note that you cannot choose the person to fight in Tournament mode. In Tournament mode, you'll see the actual tournament line-up - you can use the D-Pad to move around. Press Start twice to continue further. Afterwards, mess with the options a bit. Press Start when you're ready. ~~ Rounds: Lets the matches be played for any number of three to twelve rounds ~~ Time : Makes each round last one, two, or three minutes ~~ Skill : Match difficulty; Easy, Med (Medium), and Hard ~~ Music : Turns on/off background music ~~ SFX : Turns on/off various sound effects During the fight, you can pause to see the boxers' statuses. As you take damage in the fight, those numbers will approach eight from zero, with eight meaning near KO. Press Start again to see various other stats: punches per fighter, how many landed, knockdowns, and score. ---------------------------- Playing the Game - The Fight ---------------------------- General Description: ```````````````````` While actually fighting, you'll see the two fighters in the ring. It's a horrible view for a fighting game, I'll admit, but do your best. At the bottom, you can see your (left) and your opponent's (right) stamina gauges; if it is emptied (through attacks), the respective person is KO'ed! The bottom-left corner marks the number of Super-Punches you have left. Then there's the round number and remaining time to finish it off. There's not a whole lot to say about the fights themselves because the control system almost completely will only allow one active command at a time. Thusly, each fight is actually broken down into hit the weak spot or guard a shot. The fights will be broken into timed rounds. After a certain time, you'll see the unofficial scores and start fighting again. This continues until someone is KO'ed, or the rounds are all over, at which point the unofficial scores will determine who wins. After the match, you'll get the results and get to do it again. If you lost, Tournament mode ends, but you're allowed to do whatever in Exhibition. Some Tips: `````````` As I said earlier, there is not much to the fighting itself - the control system is horrible. However, there are a few techniques I've found to work fairly well. Firstly, don't confuse holding Up and pressing Up (or Down) in the controls of the game - only hold for a continued action, like a dodge or guard, but press Up/Down in conjunction with A/B to actually do the attack. Secondly, repetition, repetition. Imagine it like a car you wreck repeatedly. It'll look "meh" after one minor wreck, bad after two, and a trash heap after three. Since the 0 - 8 rankings are somewhat based on the area you hit, if you keep hitting the same area, you're liable to KO that opponent more easily. And thirdly, you'll want to practice in Exhibition mode for a while if you're new to the game. The control system is pretty bad compared to other games even in 1995, so you'll need to adjust to it. And, of course, practice makes perfect. ---------------- Fighter Profiles ---------------- This section will detail rather thoroughly each of the 20 boxers' stats. The Rank is obvious, and the Reach stat details how far the boxer can reach in imperial inches (for reference, one inch is about 2.54 centimeters). The next five stats are detailed on a scale of 1 to 100, with 100 being the most desireable for whoever uses that fighter. - Speed affects how fast the boxer can bob and move around, and how fast they can deal more blows. - Power ranks the damage dealt by a punch. - Offense ranks the ability to deal punishing blows. - Stamina affects your stamina gauge by making it more resilient. So to speak, much like in RPGs with this stat, it is directly tied with your HP/health. The more you have, the more likely you are to win just by outlasting your opponent. - Defense ranks the fighter's ability to dodge punches effectively, block them, and how he takes damage.
