Yoshi’s Mini-Games ===================== ------ Wanted ------ Wanted is an entertaining game, but after a while it becomes easy to play. When you become good at the game, the most difficult part of the game is concentrating after you have played it for hours straight. Here are a few tips to help you reach high levels. The most important piece of advice that I can give is to focus on each person’s exact characteristics. As you reach higher levels, you will see less and less of the character’s overall face. Instead, you will have to focus on specific characteristics. One of these characteristics is the character’s chin. Luigi has a thin chin, while Mario and Wario have progressively larger chin. Yoshi’s entire face is unique, so he is easy to spot in a crowd. Another important characteristic to look for is the person’s eyes. Learn exactly how large and how far apart each character’s eyes are. This is important as you advance through the levels. You can still touch the correct faces even if they are behind another character’s face. Let us say that you are looking for a Luigi that is hidden behind several other characters. He is hidden so well that you can only see his eyes. If you touch where Luigi’s chin would be, even though it is hidden behind another character, the game will say that you touched Luigi’s face. This is especially useful in levels where all of the faces are moving, since the character’s face will sometimes disappear completely behind other characters’ faces. Wanted Multiplayer Mode Even though Wanted is not technically a multiplayer game, there is a way that you can make it multiplayer. You need an extra stylus to play Wanted with a friend. Give your friend the extra stylus, and then divide the screen into two halves (not literally, of course). Have your friend search one half of the screen, while you search the other half. This is a great way to play this mini-game with a friend, and it is also easier to find the character’s faces. -------- Loves Me -------- This game requires no skill to play as the results of it are random. When you play the game, all you have to do is to pick all of the pedals off the flower. When all of the pedals are gone, you will learn whether your crush loves you or not. It is completely random, and there is a fifty/fifty chance that your crush will loves you. If you keep playing the game enough, it may say different things. For instance, if it says that your crush loves you three times consecutively, it will then say “Really Loves Me.” However, if it says that your crush does not love you three times consecutively, then it will say “Really... Loves Me Not. I am uncertain whether the sayings change again if you are given the same answer more consecutive times than three. ----------------- Hide and Boo Seek ----------------- In this mini-game, you need to find where the Boos are after the lights go out. To find the Boos, simply rub over the place where they are at with the stylus or the wrist strap. There are a few things that are important to know for this challenge. First of all, the Boos will stay at the same speed when the lights are turned off. They will not suddenly speed up or slow down. This allows you to predict where the Boos will be. Also, the Boos bounce off the wall at the same angle they hit it. If they hit the wall at a sharp angle, they will bounce off the wall at a sharp angle. It is important to learn to combine their speed and their angle in order to figure out where each Boo will be. Also, Boos will bounce of any lines that you have written. If you draw a line through the middle of the screen, the Boos on either side of the line will bounce off it. This can sometimes cause trouble, especially when a Boo is not where it should be since it bounced off one of your lines. Finally, you must light up the center of the Boo. If you light up the sides of the Boo, it will not count. There are games where I light up all of the Boo except for the center, and I lose even though I could clearly see where it was. Take all of these things into consideration when you play this game, and then combine it with extreme stylus skills for a winning combination. ------------ Puzzle Panel ------------ Puzzle Panel is a puzzle game that requires gamers to think through various moves in order to complete a puzzle. The goal is to make the picture on the bottom screen match the picture on the top screen. There are several blocks on the top and lower screen, each one depicting either a mushroom or a feather. When you press a block, it and every block that touches it will change to the opposite picture. For instance, if you touch a mushroom block that only has mushroom blocks touching it, the block you touched and all of the blocks around it will turn into feather blocks. The beginning puzzles only take one turn to complete, but the puzzles take more time to complete when you reach higher levels. All you have to do is complete the puzzle and you will move onto the next level. The great thing about Puzzle Panel is that you can work it out on paper if you are unsure of what to do, allowing to confidently complete every level. -------- Boom Box -------- To play Boom Box you will need good listening skills. When you touch a treasure chest, it will open up and the DS will play a sound. Listen to the sound carefully, and try to match it up with the same sound from another treasure chest. The game starts off with six treasure chests that you need to match, and occasionally it will give you eight treasure chests to match. Sometimes the sounds are hard to match since they sound similar. When you come to a situation such as that, listen carefully to which speakers the sounds come out of. That is the key to figuring out the harder sounds. Earphones make this game easier since you can easily tell which speaker the sound is coming from. --------------- Toy Box Shuffle --------------- This game begins with a single Yoshi in a toy box. The toy boxes will shuffle around, and you need to keep track of which toy box Yoshi is in. At the end of the round, you will need to choose the toy box that Yoshi is in. As the levels progress, the toy boxes will move faster. The game will also add a blue Yoshi, and at the end of the round you will have to choose the correct Yoshi. Concentrate on which box each Yoshi is in, and you will do well in this game. This game does require a lot of concentration, so focus carefully. Toy Box Shuffle Multiplayer Mode If you have more than one person, Toy Box Shuffle is easy to play. Have each person focus on one box (such as the box that holds blue Yoshi), and at the end of the round they can tell where their box is. The more people you have the easier the game becomes, since it is okay if one person accidentally loses track of their box. -------------- Which Wiggler? -------------- In this game, you need to match up a Wiggler on the bottom screen with one on the top screen. When you find the Wigglers that is the same as the one on the top screen, all you need to do is to tap it to complete the level. You are timed for this game, so you must look quickly to find the two Wigglers that are the same. Match up the Wigglers by looking at the circles on their backs. If the patterns of circles are the same, then the Wiggler’s are the same. There are three types of challenges you will encounter when you play this game. First, you will have to match two Wigglers that are sleeping. Next, you will have to match the top Wiggler with on that is walking in circles, and finally you will have to match the top Wiggler with a Wiggler that is walking straight. The Wigglers that are walking straight are often in a large group, so you will have to pay close attention if you want to match one of them with the Wiggler on the top screen. Each time you choose the correct Wiggler you will receive five additional seconds. If you choose the wrong Wiggler, they will turn red and you will lose ten seconds of your time. Do not waste much time when deciding which Wiggler matches the one of the top screen, but make sure that you do not choose the wrong Wiggler. This game is even easier if more than one person plays, since you can look at several Wigglers at once. --------- Mix-A-Mug --------- Matching is the key to this mini-game. Once you reach level five or so, the game does not get any harder so it is easy to advance to higher levels. The only problem with the game not getting harder is that it becomes too easy to go through the levels, so you may reach exceptionally high levels without dying. To complete a level, first look at the top screen. A character’s picture is in the box on the top screen, and you must put that character together in the bottom screen. In the bottom screen, three rows with either a character’s hat, face, or chin are going across the bottom screen. You must stop all three rows so that they make the character on the top screen. To stop a row, simply tap it with the stylus. It will stop moving. Stop all three rows so that you make the character on the top screen, and you will beat the level. When you successfully create a character, you will receive three coins. If the character is in the middle of the bottom screen, you will receive six coins instead. Each time you fail to create the character, you will lose three coins. You can keep playing until you reach zero coins. At the beginning of the game, only Wario, Luigi, and Mario are in the game. As the levels progress, Peach and Yoshi will join the group. While the most important thing to this game is concentration, there are things that you can do to help you. To begin, try to match up the character in the center as much as you can. That gives you six coins whenever you do it, and those coins will help keep you from losing. Also, the three rows move at different speeds, and it is important to deciding which order you will stop the rows. If you stop the slowest row first, it is easy to get the character in the middle so you can get six coins. It is also easier to concentrate on the faster rows when the slow row is out of the way, so I recommend stopping the slowest row first. You can also stop the fastest row first, and that will make it easier to line up the other two rows. If you stop the fastest row first, you run the risk of not getting the correct character on the screen at all. It is easier to stop the slower rows when there are less of them and the fastest one has stopped, but I found it was easier to stop the slowest row first. ------------ Puzzle Panic ------------ Puzzle Panic is a puzzle game that requires gamers to think through various moves in order to complete a puzzle. This game is similar to Puzzle Panel, although the puzzles are larger. The great thing about Puzzle Panic is that you can work it out on paper if you are unsure of what to do, allowing to confidently complete every level. ===================== 5. Mario’s Mini-Games ===================== -------------- Mario’s Slides -------------- In this game, you must guide the Mario head to the power star. There are four main lines, and there are smaller lines connected to the four main lines. When the level begins, Mario will go down the lines and head towards the bottom of the area. Watch to see where he is headed, and draw additional lines to lead him to the power star. Mario will always travel down the lines, and he will always go on any side lines that he encounters. He can also go up slanted side lines. When you are confident Mario will reach the power star, press the arrows on the side of the screen to make him go faster. The side lines will pile up until you reach a level that is a multiple of five, and then you will go to another area. As you go on, the game becomes more difficult. Sometimes you will have to guide more than one Mario head to the power stars, and other times the head move quickly. Think and draw fast in order to excel at this mini-game. ----------------- Bounce and Pounce ----------------- Bounce and Pounce allows you to take out all of your anger on innocent Shy Guys. The game is set up into various levels, and there are different challenges for each level. Each challenge involves a variety of Shy Guys that Marios must defeat. The Marios will fall from the sky, and you must make them jump onto the Shy Guys using the touch screen. Tap a Mario to make him jump. Depending on where you tap Mario, he will jump in different directions. If you tap two Marios at once, they will both jump up. Guide the Marios on top of the Shy Guys, and when you defeat all of the Shy Guys you will advance to the next level. You can let Mario falls up to three, times; after that you lose. Every five levels you receive your lives back, and that helps you survive through higher levels. Dual Stylus Mode It is possible to play Bounce and Pounce with two styluses. It is much easier to play when you have a stylus in each hand, since each hand can focus on one half of the screen. The only thing that is bad about dual stylus mode is that you can only use one stylus on the screen at a time. Two styluses allow to tap two Mario's extremely quickly, but if you tap the touch screen with both styluses at the same time, it will not register the taps. This can sometimes cause you to make mistakes, so you must be cautious when you use both styluses. If you are cautious about using two styluses, you will find the it is an entertaining and often easier way to play the game. --------------- Sort or ‘Splode --------------- You have two options in this mini-game, and one of them is far better than the other. When this mini-game begins, a Bob-omb will come out of the top doorway with its fuse lit. If it is a black Bob-omb, use your stylus to take it to the black carpet. If it is a pink Bob-omb, use your stylus to take it to the red carpet. When you put a Bob-omb on the correct carpet, its fuse will go out and it will stay in the carpeted area. Should you happen to put a Bob-omb on the wrong colored carpet, however, it will explode and destroy all of the Bob-ombs that are on that carpet. After forty Bob-ombs are on a single carpet, they game will stop and the forty Bob-ombs will leave, leaving the carpet empty. The Bob-ombs will be added to your score, and you cannot lose the points you have received from them. This is good because you will not lose as many Bob-ombs should you accidentally place a Bob-omb on the wrong carpet. As more Bob-ombs come out, the game gets harder. After ten Bob-ombs come out of the top doorway, the lower doorway will open and Bob-ombs will alternately come out of the doorways. They will start to come out faster, and then two Bob-ombs will come out at the same time. Shortly after that, two Bob-ombs will come out of a doorway at one time. When you have sorted using that style for a while, two Bob-ombs will come out of the top doorway, followed shortly by three Bob-ombs out of the lower doorway. Next, Bob-ombs will alternately come out of the top and lower doorways at fast speeds. Soon four Bob-ombs will come out at once. Finally, six Bob-ombs will come out at the same time. When you reach six Bob-ombs at once, the game is as hard as it will get. At that speed you need to flawlessly and speedily guide the Bob-ombs to the correct carpets. Go quickly, but make sure you put the Bob-ombs on the correct carpets lest they explode. --------------- Trampoline Time --------------- The goal of Trampoline Time is to make Mario bounce into the lit up doorway. There are two doorways that will alternately light up, one at the top and one near the bottom of the structure on the right. Your only method of control is trampoline, which you draw with the touch screen. A variety of factors cause Mario to jump at different heights and angles. The closer Mario is to the middle of the trampoline, the higher he will jump. Therefore, Mario can jump just as high off a long trampoline as he can a short one, but he needs to hit the center of the trampoline to jump high. Mario will jump at different angles depending on how the trampoline is tilted. Also, you can only have three trampolines on the screen at one time, and the trampolines disappear when Mario jumps off them. When the game begins, the top door will be lit up. You must get Mario to jump to the door. Use small trampolines that specifically aim towards the door. Make sure that you do not make Mario jump towards the door to quickly, or else he will bounce of off the wall and will not reach the doorway. Soon the top door will begin to flash, and then it will go dark. Then the lower door will light up. When Mario jumps off the top left part of the building, he will end up near the lower doorway. If Mario is going to land in the doorway, or if he is going to be able to grab onto wall beneath the doorway, do not bother creating a trampoline for him. If Mario is not going to land in the doorway, cause him to jump of the edge of a large trampoline. That will allow him to jump a very small amount, causing him to land in the doorway. Keep using trampolines to make Mario jump into the correct doorways. As the game progresses, the structure will increase in size. That makes it easier, since there is a large space between the lower doorway and bottom of the screen. ------------- Shuffle Shell ------------- Shuffle Shell is a mini-game where you attempt to shoot green shells onto a target on the ice. To shoot the green shell, use the touch screen to take the paddle and hit the green shell. The way that you hit the shell will determine the speed and direction of the green shell. The goal is to get the shell onto the target on the ice. The target has several different rings made of different colors. The ring on the outside of the target gives you one hundred points, and the next ring gives you three hundred points. The ring closest to the center gives you five hundred points, and the center circle gives you one thousand points. Each time you hit a shell, it will move across the ice a short distance and then stop moving. The game will then show you your score. As more shells land on the target, you can get higher and higher scores. You must be careful when many shells are on the target, because it is easy to knock them off accidentally. After you shoot your last shell, the game will award you your points. In essence, the last round is the only round that matters; the other rounds are only there to help you get as many green shells on the target as possible. Easy One Thousand It is possible to get a green shell on the one thousand every single time the target is in the middle. The only negative thing about the easy one thousand is that you waste one green shell, and that shell will block your way in future rounds. To get the easy one thousand, you need two styluses. Place the first stylus on the lower right corner of the touch screen. Hold it there, and then place the other stylus on the top right corner of the touch screen. The paddle will hit the green shell forward at a fast speed. Then, do the same thing with the next shell. The shells will bounce against each other and then stop moving. When they stop moving, one of them will end on the one thousand circle, and the other one will stop just below the target. ------------------ Bounce and Trounce ------------------ Bounce and Trounce allows you to take out all of your anger on innocent Shy Guys. This game uses no levels, but you receive a point each time Mario defeats a Shy Guy. As you gain more points, more Shy Guys will appear on the screens at one time. They will also move around, making them difficult to defeat. When the game begins three Marios will fall from the sky. You must make them jump onto the Shy Guys using the touch screen. Tap a Mario to make him jump. Depending on where you tap Mario, he will jump in different directions. If you tap two Marios at once, they will both jump up. Guide the Marios on top of the Shy Guys in order to defeat them. You can let Mario falls up to three, times; after that you lose. Keep defeating Shy Guys to get as high a score as you can. Dual Stylus Mode It is possible to play Bounce and Trounce with two styluses. It is much easier to play when you have a stylus in each hand, since each hand can focus on one half of the screen. The only thing that is bad about dual stylus mode is that you can only use one stylus touch the screen at a time. ---------------------- Connect the Characters ---------------------- Connect the Characters is a puzzle game, and it requires pure thinking skills. You need no skill to play; you just have to be able to draw lines. Also, you have unlimited time to figure out the puzzle, so you are not rushed. This makes the game fairly simple, but it does require a lot of mental work. There are four heads at the top of the screen, and you must guide the heads to their bodies. Each head is at the top of one of four lines, and the bodies are at the bottom of those lines. When you press go, the heads will go straight down the lines and connect with the body that they reach. To make the heads go to different bodies, you must draw lines from one main line to another. Each head will go straight down, and it will travel across any line it comes to. It is possible to draw line slanted up, and the heads will still go up the slanted line. Draw lines and make sure that they lead each head to the correct body. When you have finished, press go to see how well you did. ----------- Shell Smash ----------- The goal of Shell Smash is to knock a green shell into several red shells and score as many points as possible. Each time you hit a shell, the hit counter will increase by one (the hit counter does not appear on the screen). The first time you hit a red shell, you will receive ten points. With each additional hit, you will receive ten points times the number on the hit counter. For example, if you hit five shells in a single shot, you would get fifty points for the fifth shell that you hit. This will continue until you reach the maximum hit counter number of twenty-four. Of course, red shells are not the only things that you can hit. It is possible to hit green shells together as you shoot more green shells. If two green shells collide, they will receive one hundred points time the number on the hit counter. Needless, to say, you receive a lot more points by hitting green shells together instead of hitting red shells. When you shoot, try to use the red shells to quickly increase your score counter so you will receive huge amounts of points when you hit green shells together. This game is primarily luck, but it is important to hit the green shell as hard as you can in order to maximize your points. Super High Shell Smash Score Discovered by: Peer While it is fun to hit many shells together to get high points, another method allows you to attain almost unbelievably high scores. To use the other method, you will need two styluses. For your first shot, shoot the green shell as if it were a normal round. When everything stops moving, see if you have cleared a straight path in the middle of the ice. The path should be wide enough to shoot the next green shell straight through it without hitting any other shells. If there is a clear path, you are ready to move onto the next step. If there is not, restart and try again. With a clear path directly in front of the next green shell, get your second stylus ready. Put one stylus on the lower right corner of the screen. Then, take the other stylus and put it on the top right corner of the screen. The green shell will shoot forward at maximum velocity, and it will bounce of the walls several times. Since it will go forward through the clear path, it will not hit any other shells. When those shell stops moving, use the same method again to shoot the next green shell. The two shells will hit each other over and over again, and they will stay in a straight line. Do that for the rest of the shells as well. At the end of the round, you will have around 145,000 points. 145,000 points is a lot for this game, but you can achieve even higher scores. It is possible to perfectly line up a single red shell with your first shot. If you line up a red shell, you will receive more points when you shoot the green shells, allowing you to reach a score of over 190,000. To get the perfect score, you need have the green shell line up perfectly with the next green shell on your first shot. This is extremely difficult to do, and you can only do it using luck. Keep practicing and you will be able to reach the perfect score. ----------------- Trampoline Terror ----------------- If you enjoyed Trampoline Time, you are going to enjoy Trampoline Terror a lot. Instead of guiding Mario to lighted doorways, you need to guide him through rings. You begin with one Mario that you need to keep alive. When you draw a line on the touch screen, it will turn into a trampoline. The closer Mario is to the middle of the trampoline the higher he will jump. If the trampoline is at an angle, it will affect Mario’s direction when he jumps off it. As the level begins, there are rings that you need Mario to jump through. Draw trampolines in order to make Mario jump through the rings. After he jumps through a ring, it will disappear. When all of the rings are gone, new rings will appear for Mario to jump through. When the game begins, a line will appear at the bottom of the touch screen and it will turn into a large trampoline. This trampoline is for additional safety. If Mario bounces off it, it will turn yellow, and the next time he bounces off it, it will turn red. The third time that Mario bounces off it, it will disappear. After it disappears, you will lose one of your three lives whenever Mario falls through the bottom of the screen. While you start out with one Mario, more Marios will appear on the screen as you progress through the levels. When you get 1,000 points, a second Mario will jump onto the scene. After you reach 5,000 points, a third Mario will join your group. The fourth Mario will enter at 10,000 points, and the fifth Mario will appear after you collect 20,000 points. There are advantages and disadvantages to having more Marios on the screen at once. The advantage is that you will have a Mario go through the rings quicker. The disadvantages are that it is harder to keep all of the Marios alive and it is harder to gain point combos. You receive one hundred points each time Mario jumps through a ring. However, you will receive even more points if a single Mario jumps through multiple rings without bouncing back up using a trampoline. Each time a single Mario jumps consecutively through a ring, the points that you receive from jumping through that ring will double. For example, if you jump through two rings without bouncing off a trampoline, you will receive one hundred points for the first ring and two hundred points for the second ring, for a total of three hundred points. You receive four hundred points for the third consecutive ring, eight hundred for the fourth ring, one thousand six hundred for the fifth ring, and so on. While Bob-omb Squad sets the point limit for consecutively defeating Bob-ombs at thirty-two hundred points, I am not sure whether there is a limit on trampoline terror. So far I have had one Mario jump through seven rings at once, and I received sixty-four hundred points for the seventh ring. However, I am not sure whether you would receive ten thousand eight hundred points for going through eight rings without using a trampoline. ===================== 6. Luigi’s Mini-Games ===================== ------------------------------- Never Lose Coins in Luigi Games ------------------------------- This is an exceptionally useful method for gaining high scores in Luigi games. Most of Luigi's games are set up so that you gain or lose coins during the round. When you quit the round, the game saves your score whether you gained or lost points. This method, simplistic in nature, allows you to decide whether the game will save your high score or not. When you are done playing a mini-game, decide whether you lost or gained points that round. If you lost points, turn the system off instead of exiting the mini-game. It is extremely simple, but it allows you to earn high scores easily. It is best if you quit the mini-game after every round where you earned coins, so you will only keep higher scores. ------------ Memory Match ------------ In this game, you get to use your thinking skills to go through levels. You begin on level one, and Luigi will deal out several cards. You must try to match all of the cards. Select two of the cards, and see if they match. If they do, both cards will disappear. If they do not, you will lose a coin. Continue to match all of the cards until you clear the board. When you clear the board, you will receive additional coins based on how many coins you had left, and you will advance a level. If you miss three times, you will go down a level and you will not receive any coins. As the levels get higher, Luigi will deal out more and more cards for you to match, making it difficult to beat without missing three times. ----------- Pair-A-Gone ----------- In Pair-A-Gone, you need to match up cards that are identical and adjacent. If two cards are touching each other and they are the same, you can remove them. Remove all of the cards that Luigi deals in order to complete the level and earn coins. As you move up to higher levels, Luigi will deal more cards and he will add new cards (i.e. Bowser cards). If you cannot clear all of the cards, you go back a level and you lose coins. Because you lose if you cannot clear all of the cards, you need to think carefully so that you do not make it impossible to complete the challenge. It is good to match up several pairs of cards at the top that you can remove at any time. That way you can focus on matching cards near the bottom, but you can always remove one of the pairs at the top if you need to alter the playing field. Putting pairs of cards near the top allows you to have a safety net when you play this game. ------------- Picture Poker ------------- This is poker with Mario cards, but it is really easy to win. Your goal is to get a better hand than Luigi by getting several cards with the same picture. At the beginning of the round, Luigi will deal you five cards. If you want to keep your entire hand, select hold. If you want to trade in cards for new ones, tap the cards you want to trade in and then press hit. Luigi will deal you new cards for all of the cards that you traded in. On the top screen to the left, there is a box that shows you the values of matching a certain number of cards. If your match has a higher number than Luigi’s, you will win the round. You will also coins based on how much you bet and how high the number is. For example, if you bet four coins and you won with three of a kind, you will get four coins times four, for a total of sixteen coins. Since you win a lot more than you bet, it is good to bet all five coins except when you have a dismal hand. While the matching pairs section will decide the winner in most games, there are times when both you and Luigi will have the same number of matches. When this happens, the winner will be decided based on who has the cards. The column on the bottom screen to the left shows the values of all the cards. The star is the highest value card and the cloud is the lowest value card. The value of a card is a good thing to take into consideration when you decide which cards to keep. ----------------- Mushroom Roulette ----------------- The chance of winning this game is small, so you will probably use the “Never Lose Coins in Luigi Games” method many times when you play it. On the top screen is a ball that rolls around a roulette board, and on the bottom screen there is a board with several black and red pictures. Each picture is on one of the slots on the roulette board, and your goal is to put a coin on the correct picture. You will get five coins to place on the roulette board. Choose the spaces to put your coins on, and then wait to see what happens. If the ball lands in one of the slots whose picture you have a coin on, you will receive twelve coins for each coin you put on the picture. You can also put coins on the lines in between pictures. If you do that, you will receive six coins if the ball lands on one of the slots with either of the pictures that your coin is touching. Finally, you can put your coin on the corner of the pictures, allowing you to win if the ball lands in one of four slots. However, you only receive three coins for having a coin on the corner. I would advise placing all five coins on one picture. If you win you will receive sixty coins, and if you lose you can turn off the system so that it does not record your loss. ----------- Mario Slots ----------- This is a repetitive game that has no real point, but you may find yourself playing it for hours to get that elusive 9999 score. The game is a slot machine, with two basic things that you do on it. At the bottom of the machine there is a place where you can increase the amount of coins that you put into the machine. After you choose between one and three coins, you must tap each of the three spinning sections to stop them. If you get three in a row, you will receive additional coins based on the amount of coins that you put into the machine. Super stars will also give you coins if you get them, and they are also wild. For example, if you got two mushrooms and a super star, it would count it as three mushrooms. Therefore you would get 10x the amount you put in, plus 2x for the super star. The nice thing about super stars is that they will help you keep your coins, and they help you make matches. If you get two super stars in a single round, you will get a match no matter what the next slot is. You will also get 4x for having two stars. The chances of Mario Slots are slim--you will usually lose a lot more than you win. When you do win, you will receive a lot of coins. However, wins are infrequently so you will have to rely on the special method discussed at the beginning of Luigi’s mini-games to keep from losing coins. ----------- Lucky Stars ----------- It is impossible to get a game that is more random than this. Luigi will deal two cards, and you have to guess which card has more stars on it. Since it is impossible to know which card has the higher number, just bet all five coins and make a guess. If you lose, turn off the system so that it does not record your score. If you win, quit the game so that it saves your score, and then go back and try again. ------------------ Pair-A-Gone and On ------------------ Pair-A-Gone is just like Pair-A-Gone, but there are no levels and you do not earn coins. Instead, you try to see how many cards you can clear from the board. The game will begin with several cards next to each other. Tap two cards with the same design that are adjacent to one another to make them disappear. When you clear two cards from the deck, the cards ahead of the two you removed will move up, and Luigi will deal two more cards to the bottom of the deck. Keep removing cards until there are no matches that you can make. As you clear more cards, Luigi will deal additional types of cards, such as Boo and Bowser cards. Look ahead several moves to ensure that you will have a match should Luigi not deal favorable cards. Personally, I prefer to have several pairs of cards lined up at the top. If there are several pairs of cards that are together at the top, you will not have to worry about them during normal play and you can clear them just in case you cannot find any matches that are lower. Pairs of cards at the top are like a safety net, just in case you do not get the cards you want. Choose your moves carefully and you will do fine in this mini-game. ------------- Memory Master ------------- This game is a harder version of Memory Match. When you begin, Luigi will deal out several cards. Four cards will automatically turn over, allowing you to see what is on the back of them. From there, you must try to match all of the cards. Select two of the cards, and see if they match. If they do, both cards will disappear. If they do not, you will lose a coin. Continue to match all of the cards until you clear the board. When you clear the board, you will receive additional coins based on how many coins you had left, and you will advance a level. If you miss five times, you will go down a level and you will not receive any coins. As the levels get higher, Luigi will deal out more and more cards for you to match, making it difficult to beat without missing five times. ----------------- Super Mario Slots ----------------- This is a repetitive game that has no real point, but you may find yourself playing it for hours to get that elusive 9999 score. There are more super stars, so it is easier to win. For this reason, you should always put in as many coins as you can, and you will probably never need to use the special method to keep from losing coins. Since you win so often in Super Mario Slots, you can attain the highest score possible in just a few hours. ===================== 7. Wario’s Mini-Games ===================== ------------- Bob-omb Squad ------------- It would appear that this game relies only on pure skill, and no strategy, but that is not the case. There is one strategy that is important in this game if you are to gain high scores. Whenever you hit more than one Bob-omb with a single ball, you will gain more points from hitting the additional Bob-ombs. Below is a list of how many points you receive from defeating multiple Bob-ombs with a single ball. Remember, you get the points for each Bob-omb you killed. Therefore, if you kill two Bob-ombs with a single ball, you would get one hundred points for the first Bob-omb and two hundred points for the second Bob-omb. Your total score for killing those two Bob- ombs would be three hundred points. First Bob-omb: 100 Points Second Bob-omb: 200 Points Third Bob-omb: 400 Points Fourth Bob-omb: 800 Points Fifth Bob-omb: 1600 Points Sixth Bob-omb and Up: 3200 Points As you can see, the points that you receive from killing Bob-ombs increase dramatically if you kill several in a row. You may look at this and think, “So what?” This is very important in gaining high scores. Normally, you will get a lot of points near the end of the game, when there are a lot of Bob-ombs on the screen. At the beginning of the game, however, you may be tempted to defeat every single Bob-omb when it comes onto the screen. The best piece of advice that I can give you is to wait at the beginning. Do not just defeat every single Bob-omb when it comes onto the screen. Wait a while so that the screens are filled with Bob-ombs. With more Bob-ombs on the screen, there is a higher chance that you will defeat multiple Bob-ombs with a single ball. When you are ready to defeat the Bob-omb, aim your slingshot so that you will defeat as many Bob-ombs as possible with the ball. Now, do not simply aim so that the ball goes into the air and defeats many Bob-ombs. This is good, but you can get many more points if the ball comes back down. Whenever you shoot, aim at a line of Bob-ombs that is almost straight above the slingshot, and aim so that the ball will come down and destroy another line of Bob-ombs. This can give you high scores in just one shot, so it is a useful method to use. To make sure that the ball comes back down, you cannot shoot the ball with much power. Shoot so that the ball will make it to the top of the screen and then fall back down. When you shoot the ball off, your slingshot should be no lower than the top of the wall. This is a useful strategy, since you attain a lot more points with it. It is good to try to defeat all of the Bob-ombs when you can, but you do not get as many points if you do it that way. I gained twenty thousand points when I tried to use this method. When I became better at defeating multiple Bob-ombs, I was able to easily triple my score. --------------- Snowball Slalom --------------- If you are ready for a fast-paced mini-game, you came to the right one. Snowball Slalom only lasts twenty seconds at the most, but it gives you fast-paced entertainment that will put your reflexes to the test. In Snowball Slalom, you control a small snowball. You make the snowball move by rubbing the touch screen. Using your stylus, start at the bottom of the touch screen and quickly slide the stylus to the top of the touch screen. When you get to the top of the touch screen, lift your stylus up from the touch screen and put it back at the bottom of the touch screen. Do this over and over again to move the snowball. As the snowball goes forward, it will grow in size. You will also encounter rocks that will block your path. In order to avoid the rocks, slide the stylus to the left of to the right when you are rubbing the touch screen. That will cause the snowball to move left or right in order to avoid the rocks. When you become larger, you will go faster. At top speed, you will go too fast to avoid the rocks if you are watching only the lower screen. Because of that, you must focus on the top screen when you are playing this game. If you do not focus on the top screen, you will not have enough time to move the snowball out of the way when you see a rock. Continue to rub the touch screen and avoid rocks, and try to make it to the end before time runs out. ---------- Bingo Ball ---------- While this is more like Tic-Tac Toe than Bingo, Bingo Ball is nonetheless an addicting mini-game. At the begging of the game, you have twelve balls. There is a large machine similar to a pinball machine. At the bottom of the screen are nine slots. Launch the balls one by one into the machine, and see which slot they land in. They goal is to light up as many of the numbers on the Tic-Tac Toe board as you can. This game does not require skill because there is nothing you can do after you shoot a ball to control where it goes. When a ball lands in a slot that no balls have landed in, you receive points. If another ball has already landed in the slot, the ball will disappear and you will gain no points. You receive one hundred points for each slot a ball lands in that is not taken, and you receive five hundred points each time the numbers on the Tic-Tac Toe board make three in a row. If you light up all nine slots, you receive an additional ten thousand points. For each ball you have left over after lighting up all nine slots, you will receive two thousand points. If you get the first nine balls into the nine slots, you will receive the maximum of 20,900 points and you will complete the mini-game. While this mini-game does not require skill, it does take a while to get the maximum score. -------------- Coincentration -------------- It is time to put your concentration skills to the test. This mini-game will require you to use all of your concentration skills in order to locate coins. At the beginning of the game, Wario will punch an enemy into the air. The enemy will from to the ground, along with forty coins. The coins will bounce onto the lower screen, where they will disappear into several of the brick blocks on the lower screen. The goal of this mini-game is to collect as many coins as you can. That goal is much easier said than done. To get the coins in a block, you must tap the block. However, if you tap a block that does not have any coins in it, the block will explode and the round will end. The nice thing about this mini-game is that many coins fall into the block, so it is easy to collect a lot of coins. Collecting all forty coins is difficult, since you have to focus on several blocks at once. If you do manage to find all forty coins in a single round, you will not have to play the mini-game anymore since you will have beaten it. If you have good concentration, you can collect all forty coins without any trouble. Most people will probably not have that good concentration, but there are several things that they can do in order to collect all of the coins. The first thing that people can do to help them collect all of the coins is to use a second stylus. With two styluses you can picture the general locations of where the coins are on each half of the screen. This method is useful and can make it easier to find the locations of coins. Since there are so many coins, it might be better to find the blocks that coins do not fall into. Another way to locate coins is to mark each block that a coin falls in (or doesn’t fall in). The hole left by hole punchers are useful for doing this, as you can put several of them on the screen and then quickly move them above any boxes that coins fall into. Again, two styluses work best for this because you can move two holes at once, allowing you to find all of the boxes that coins are in. The third and most effective way to locate coins is to get a few friends together. Have each person focus on a specific set of boxes, and then have them choose all of the boxes in their section that had coins in them. This method makes the game extremely easy, especially if you have several people doing it. Keep trying and eventually you will be able to find all forty coins. ----------- Psyche Out! ----------- While this game requires intense focus to advance many of the levels, many times you might have to guess to advance. When you play this game, a card will appear on the top screen, and other cards will appear on the bottom screen. In order to advance through levels, you must match the card on the top screen with a card on the bottom screen. Look at the card on the top screen as it turns, and look specifically at the pixels making up the card. Figure out which pixels are darker than they should be, and determine which picture on the back of the card. When you figure it out, tap the card to see if you were correct. If you were, you will advance to the next level. If you were wrong, the game will end. This game becomes extremely hard in later levels because there are more options to choose from, and you must figure out which picture is on the card based on just a few discolored pixels. Do you best, and see how far you can make it. ---------- Slots Shot ---------- This game combines the launching action of pinball with slots. The goal of this game is to get as many points as possible with the nine balls you have. You can gain from a variety of things, and all you have to do is launch the balls. While this game does not really require skill, it is important that you learn to launch the balls so that you can get them where you want to go. When the game begins, there is a pipe in the middle of the machine covered by three bars. Two piranha plants wait next to the pipe. Since the pipe is the only way to activate the slots, it is important that you quickly open the bars that block the entrance to it. To open the bars, shoot a ball into the mouth of a piranha plant. When you do, the piranha plant will disappear and the two bars on the sides of the pipe will open, allowing balls to enter the pipe. If you shoot another ball into the mouth of the other piranha, the piranha plant and the top bar will disappear. While it is not necessary to eliminate the top bar, it is highly recommended since it is easier to get balls into the pipe when the top bar is gone. However, if you learn to shoot well enough so that you can get the balls into the pipe without eliminating the top bar, you can save yourself a ball by not shooting one into the mouth of the second Piranha plant. When a ball enters a pipe, you receive an automatic three thousand points. The slots will also activate. If you get three flowers, you will receive an additional five thousand points. Three stars will give you eight thousand points, and three sevens will reward you with ten thousand points. Besides the pipe, there are other ways to gain points. Each time a ball hits a mushroom, the game will give you three hundred points. If you get a ball into one of the four holes at the bottom of the machine, the hole will close up, you will get the ball back, and you will receive two thousand points. Since you get the ball back and you receive two thousand points for getting a ball into a hole, it is highly recommended that you close all four holes. After a ball goes through the pipe it will usually land in one of the two lower holes, so you just need to get two balls into the two higher holes. Keep playing until you use all nine balls, and then you will receive your final score. ------------- Lakitu Launch ------------- If you want to excel at this mini-game, you need to learn to shoot quickly. When the game begins, four Lakitus holding to tubs will float down to the top screen. There is a slingshot on the lower screen. Touch the lower screen, and move the stylus to aim the slingshot. The further you slide the stylus down on the touch screen, the further the slingshot will shoot. Aim towards one of the tubs, and shoot. The slingshot will shoot a spiny creature into the air, and the goal is to make it land in the tub on its way back down. While precise aiming is important, shooting quickly is also important. When new ammo appears on the slingshot, take control of the slingshot and quickly shoot in the general direction of a tub. You will not make every single shot if you shoot quickly, but you will be able to shoot many more spiny creatures if you shoot often. Since you can only get in as many creatures as you shoot, shoot often in order to maximize your score. ---------------------- Intense Coincentration ---------------------- Can you concentrate on several things at once? I hope so, because that is exactly what this mini-game requires you to do. At the beginning of the game, Wario will punch an enemy into the air. The enemy will from to the ground, along with sixteen coins. The nice thing about this mini-game is that only sixteen coins fall into the boxes, so once you collect all sixteen in a round you complete the mini-game. It is difficult to focus on every single coin, so this game will not end too quickly. If you have good concentration, you can collect all sixteen coins without any trouble. Another way to locate coins is to mark each box that a coin falls in. Keep trying and eventually you will be able to find all sixteen coins. --------------------- Giant Snowball Slalom --------------------- If you are ready for a fast-paced mini-game, you came to the right one. Giant Snowball Slalom only lasts forty seconds at the most, but it gives you fast-paced entertainment that will put your reflexes to the test. In Giant Snowball Slalom, you control a small snowball. You will also encounter rocks and penguins that will block your path. In order to avoid the obstacles, slide the stylus to the left of to the right when you are rubbing the touch screen. That will cause the snowball to move left or right in order to avoid the obstacles. When you become larger, you will go faster. At top speed, you will go too fast to avoid the obstacles if you are watching only the lower screen. Because of that, you must focus on the top screen when you are playing this game. If you do not focus on the top screen, you will not have enough time to move the snowball out of the way when you see an obstacle. Continue to rub the touch screen and avoid obstacles as you play the level. You have forty seconds to make it to the end of the course.
