Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Horses Racing (also known as 1991 Du Ma Racing) is a short and simple horse- racing game for the Famicom. It has two modes; one lets you actually race against a single opponent, and the other mode lets you bet on races without actually participating in them. It is a simple concept with very little complexity involved, so there is no learning curve despite what you may otherwise think of the sport. Nonetheless, if you are in the mood for something a bit different, check this one out. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Start: Start game Select: Move cursor on menu screen A: Increase meter (in Race Mode, when ball is in center lines) B: Speed boost (in Race Mode, if meter is partially/completely full) ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ========== Game Modes ========== When you begin, you can pick from two different modes. They are: Race Mode: Participate in a regular race against the computer or another human player. Gamble Mode: Place bets for 6 computer players and watch the races to see who wins/loses. ======== Gameplay ======== Race Mode --------- In this mode, it is a race between two horses around the track. You can see the progress around the track at the bottom of the screen. There are also meters with a red ball moving up and down, and two lines signifying the center area. If you press A when the ball is in the middle, your horse's meter will fill up slightly. If there is anything in your meter, you can press B to gain a speed boost (the more it is filled, the bigger the boost, obviously). The horse that makes it around the track first wins. Gamble Mode ----------- When you start off, you can pick the order of the six men who will be betting (this does not have an effect on anything really). After the horses are shown, you set the betting amounts for each person individually. Each man starts with 500 points, and there are three types of bets you can make. Use Left/Right to set an amount, then press A to go to the Pace card on the right. The numbers correspond to the five horses, so bet accordingly. After you pick a horse for your bet, you go to the next bet type. The three types of bets are as follows: Win: You bet on the horse that will win the race. If the horse is not in first place, you don't win anything. The payout is 3x (win 3 points for every 1 you bet). Place: You bet on the two horses that will come in first and second places, not necessarily in order. You can bet on one or two horses here, but the horse MUST be in first or second place at the end of the race to win this bet, otherwise you get nothing. The payout is 1.5x (win 1.5 points for every 1 you bet). Quinella: You bet on the two horses that will come in first and second places, not necessarily in order. Both horses you bet on must be in first or second place at the end of the race to win this bet, otherwise you get nothing. The payout is 5x (win 5 points for every 1 you bet). Once everyone has placed their bets, the race will begin (you have no control over this one). After the race, everyone will win/lose points depending on the results and how each person bet. The game then repeats, presumably until everyone goes bankrupt. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5.
