It is not related to the NBA by any means, but is just....basketball. It takes a step up in visuals and gameplay from other games like Magic Johnson's Fast Break, but isn't close to decent compared to the current games. However, All-Pro Basketball still has some nice elements and is fun to play. While not every game is terribly hard or requires help to beat, it's still nice to have some kind of guide up in case the rare gamer does need some assistance. Every game could use a FAQ, including this one. To Start the Game: ------------------ On the main menu, there are two modes that you can play. You can select either one or two players. In two player mode, both players play on the same team and compete through the tournament. In one players mode, you compete with a team throughout the tournament by yourself. After a game, you will be given a password. You can continue the tournament next time if you decide to turn off the NES by entering this password. If you decide not to stop playing, the game automatically has the password on the password screen. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= |***** {3.0} Playing the Game *****| |~ ~| +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= When playing the game, the offense will always be facing the basket. The camera is set behind you, making it easy to see all of your men and control them as best as you can. The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible. Although they don't follow all NBA rules, there are still some rules that exist. After seven total fouls in a half, the other team will shoot free throws for every foul. There are only two kinds of fouls in this game, an offensive foul and pushing foul. All other calls result in a turnover. 1. Offensive Foul - This happens most often to me. This occurs when you try to go against a defensive player. It sound stupid, but it happens often when you're trying to move while catching a pass, or if you're running down the lane in a crowd of people. 2. Pushing Foul - On the defensive end, if you try to move past a person in the act of shooting, you will be called for a foul. This results in free throws. 3. Traveling - If you press B once to shoot but don't it again, you'll be called for traveling because you jumped and didn't release the ball. 4. Goaltending - If you press B near your opponent's basket, you'll reject any shot that the CPU throws up. However, since the ball is past the top of its arc, it's considered goaltending. The basket will be given to the opponent. 5. 10s Violation - This is the ten second violation. You can't stay in the backcourt for more than ten seconds. There should be no reason to. Just pass the ball. These ten seconds are real time, not ingame. 6. 5s Violation: The five second violation occurs when you don't inbound the ball in five, real time seconds. You can't call a timeout in this game, so your best choice would be to just throw it in and hope one of your teammates catches the ball. The computer doesn't play tight defense anyway, so it's usually nothing to worry about. I'm sure there's a 24 second shot clock violation, but I've never had the ball long enough to make sure. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= |***** {4.0} Teams *****| |~ ~| +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Here is a list of all the teams that are in the game(8). They are: 1. Get close to the basket for an easy shot. 2. Avoid turnovers and steal the ball. It's really, really rare for a player to miss a dunk. Most of the defense stays in the backcourt(this includes yours; I'll get to that in a bit.) Ballhandlers move as the same speed as other players, so as soon as the defender slacks off, you can quickly get to the basket without much interference. When you get to the basket, you have yourself a dunk and an easy two points! The one thing to watch out for is a block. Rarely, there will be a defender near the basket. If the computer times their jump right and is in front of you, you'll be blocked. Be sure to grab the rebound afterwards. If the computer is close to you but at an angle BEHIND you, you'll just dunk over that defender. Jump shots are another way to score points, but they are not nearly as effective as dunks. Don't chuck the threes, they won't go in that often. If the opponent gets the ball, they're difficult to stop without a steal and you don't want that. Do a jump shot if you must, but they're not really smart shots even if you're wide open. The one thing that you MUST watch out for are steals. It's difficult to pick off a pass in this game and the CPU doesn't do it often. Use this to your advantage. Whenever you find yourself dribbling into a crowd of defenders, it's more than likely that you'll get your pocket picked. Pass to another player. Be sure not to do a one touch pass, as in pass to one player and quickly pass to another. This results in a bad pass, which is a turnover. Always take a step or two before passing to another player. On Defense: ----------- On defense, you'll find that you don't really have much control on where you want your players to be, or even the player that you want to control. There are two ways that you can play defense. 1. Go for a block. 2. Go for a steal. I like to go for steals because after a block, you aren't guaranteed a rebound since your players are pretty silly on defense. You'll find that standing in front of a player doesn't really deny him penetration. Press A rapidly near the ball and hope for a steal. Try not to hold the control pad while doing so because if you do happen to steal the ball, you might move forward and get called for an offensive foul. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= |***** {6.0} FAQ *****| |~ ~| +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Q: Are there any references to the NBA in this game? A: No. Just similar rules and some similar names(NY Slicks/Knicks, that sort of thing). Q: Can you put in bench players? A: Nope. Why would you though, each player is the same with equal stats. Q: Do the height of the players matter? A: No. If you look carefully at the stick figures of players, you can see that some are taller than others and their skin color. I don't think that it affects the game in any way however. Q: Do you know a password to get to the finals of the tournament? A: BEOLEHPPHRMR. This will put you in the finals with an undefeated record with the LA team. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= |***** {7.0} Conclusion *****| |~ ~| +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Thanks for reading this FAQ.
