===================================DISCLAIMER================================== I have decided not to allow websites other than Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com), IGN (faqs.ign.com) & Gamespot (www.gamespot.com) to host my FAQs from now on. Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many sites don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of hassle in my mailbox. So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than those mentioned above, please let me know and I will take care of the situation, thanks. Just to make things crystal clear for some people, this FAQ is not to appear anywhere at the following URLs: http://www.cheatcc.com http://www.cheatindex.com This document Copyright 2007,2017 Daniel Engel =============================================================================== Contra Force FAQ [NES] November 30, 2017 Daniel (DEngel) Engel dan.engel.2017 [AT] gmail [DOT] com ############################################################################### (A) TABLE OF CONTENTS ############################################################################### Table of Contents (A) This Table of Contents (B) Controls (C) Characters (D) Walkthrough - (D-01) Stage 01 - (D-02) Stage 02 - (D-03) Stage 03 - (D-04) Stage 04 - (D-05) Stage 05 (E) Experimental ############################################################################### (B) CONTROLS ############################################################################### The controls for this game are very simple, and are as follows: A - Jumps. B - Fire current weapon. Start - Pause menu [left/right to assign characters]. Select - Choose new weapon. ############################################################################### (C) CHARACTERS ############################################################################### There are 4 characters to choose from in the game and they all start out with a basic handgun. By finding powerup suitcases you can upgrade their weapons or abilities, much like the Gradius series of games. Unfortunately you can only have one upgrade at any given time. If you use the pause menu you can press left and right to assign the other characters to either player 2, or the CPU for 5 seconds. It's up to you who you want to use, but I used Smith for the whole game [his homing missiles help a lot]. Each character's upgrades are listed in order. ----- Burns ----- Hand Grenades - Thrown in an arc. Machine-Gun - Hold for rapid fire. TI? - You can fire 3 shots at once, instead of 2. RA? - You are invincible ONLY while jumping. ----- Smith ----- R? - Long shots. Homing Missiles - These target the closest enemy or object. TI? - You can fire 3 shots at once, instead of 2 RA? - You are invincible ONLY while jumping. ---- Iron ---- Flame Thrower - Short range flames. Bazooka - Long shots. TI? - You can fire 3 shots at once, instead of 2 RA? - You are invincible ONLY while jumping. ----- Beans ----- Time Bombs - These can be set anywhere and make a large explosion. Timed Mines - Like timed bombs, but they blow up quicker. TI? - You can fire 3 shots at once, instead of 2 RA? - You are invincible ONLY while jumping. ############################################################################### (D) WALKTHROUGH ############################################################################### Bricklayer J. Gastronomy You will find the walkthrough for the entire game in the sections below. ############################################################################### (D-01) STAGE 01 ############################################################################### Shoot 2 enemies on your right as they jump over ledges, then shoot the grenade-throwing enemy above. Destroy the boxes for a powerup and jump on the left side of the next ledge. Jump and shoot diagonally to hit the bomber ahead of you, then shoot through the wall and note the cracks above you. Shoot them to destroy part of the ledge. basically shoot all walls, ledges and other structures to find hidden powerups at times. Jump on the forklift without getting run over and shoot the ledge just before the box for another powerup. Shoot your way to the pile of boxes and destroy them for another powerup. Try to leave one box standing so you can reach the next ledge. You can also hold the jump button while using the pause menu to do more jumps with a glitch. Just shoot the green ceiling to get through this next crushing section. Shoot the enemies on the other side and go to the falling boxes. As long as the box doesn't land on you, then you're safe. Only one box can be on the screen at a time, so keep it on-screen and move safely onward. Jump the pit and shoot more enemies as you break boxes and the ceiling. Carefully jump to the moving platform below and duck as you land, to kill the enemy. Wait on the platform so you can kill 2 more, then destroy the wall up ahead. Back up and shoot the boxes, then jump the barrels that roll towards you. Jump low onto the fan to hover over it and quickly shoot the guard beyond. Then go back to your ledge and do the same low jump so you don't quite hit the spikes above. Glide right from this height to clear the spikes below you. Carefully jump across the slow moving platforms and slide down the hill. Shoot before clearing the gap, then cross some falling platforms and destroy another wall. Shoot past gaps, boxes and a few more hills, then shoot about 3 more as you reach the boss. ---- Boss ---- This guy fires pairs of shots 1-2 at a time that you can duck under. He rolls along the ground sometimes and he jumps backwards after flapping his arms. It takes about 40-50 hits to get rid of him. ############################################################################### (D-02) STAGE 02 ############################################################################### Shoot your way to the left side of the ship [don't fall in the water] and past the debris. Shoot or avoid the turrets along the way and go up through the door. Head left across another bridge and go up one of the two ladders, then cross a second ladder farther up. Go up and left to reach some boats and get inside one of them. Ride the boat up to a sub and enter it. Shoot the doors in your way and destroy the large enemies with about 15 shots. Shoot through more doors until you reach the boss. ---- Boss ---- This green guy tends to shoot twice from the left and once from the right. Aim carefully as you use the boxes for cover. After about 50 hits, the fight is over. ############################################################################### (D-03) STAGE 03 ############################################################################### Shoot your way right to some flames and carefully move past them. Ride the green elevator up and jump to the higher green platform of the 2 on your left. Ride this platform and shoot through some boxes, then ride another elevator up as you shoot more enemies and jump to their ledge. Stand on the left side and shoot under the box above as it falls and launches you up and right to another ledge. Shoot right to the wall and jump to the chain above, then watch for electricity as you jump left across more chains. Go low on the last chain to jump to the swinging one, then shoot through the boxes and get ready for some tricky timing. You want to jump when the top of the grey beam is lined up with the bottom of the red ceiling above you. This way you can land on it and jump to the next ledge before it disappears. Climb the rope on your left and jump right past another falling grey beam. Shoot your way right and up past the pipes, then go left up top to find a big pile of boxes. Stay low and shoot through them as fast as you can so you can destroy the blue panel beyond. This stops the ceiling from coming down and crushing you. Keep left to meet the boss. ---- Boss ---- This plane has a turret in the middle shooting missiles and 4 lasers on the wings. You need to avoid both attacks while shooting all 5 points on the plane. Once they are all destroyed, the stage is done. ############################################################################### (D-04) STAGE 04 ############################################################################### Shoot your way up the plane and some turrets. You can also shoot the grey pipes for a powerup. Destroy the door and shoot left or right to head up farther. Destroy another door to get on the other wing of the plane. Go up until you reach the tip of the wing, then wait until a second plane flies by. Watch the pattern and quickly cross when the wings are closest, before they pull away. Shoot up to more turrets and a door, then kill the enemies beyond. This includes one with a flamethrower, so keep your distance from him. Go up to another door by the next wing and work your way past turrets to the tip. Cross to the thinner wing of a third plane, then cross a few more to reach a larger plane. Shoot up to the door and through it and fight your way right to find the boss. ---- Boss ---- This boss can't shoot diagonally, and he jumps every so often. Try to shoot him from above for an easier time. After about 50 hits, the boss should go down. ############################################################################### (D-05) STAGE 05 ############################################################################### Shoot the enemies as you climb up the stairs on your right [try not to destroy the stairs]. Jump left to a ledge and some chains, then jump over a gap and up more stairs. Go left until you reach the final boss. ---- Boss ---- This guy runs jumps while shooting and throwing grenades. His helicopter also drops bombs down on you, but can't be damaged. Generally you want to stay on a different level from him. So hide down low when he's up high and vice-versa. Homing missiles work really well, especially if you just jump and shoot from the far left hole. After about 60 hits, the boss and the game are both finished! ############################################################################### (E) EXPERIMENTAL ############################################################################### For a little while now I've had a paypal link in all my FAQs at the very bottom here. Mainly as a small experiment since a few other FAQ authors have also had the same idea. I had a few people email me before I put this link in because they wanted to send money, so it's here for those people. For the record I've received about $87 (which works out to a bit more in Canadian lol) last I checked, so I've been getting cases of pop and making some excellent progress on a few FAQs. If you don't want to send money or can't then send me an email, it's nice to hear what people thought about my work and there's always room for improvement. My email address and paypal address for those that want to contribute are both dan.engel.2017 (AT) gmail (DOT) com Many thanks, and I hope you continue to use my work! ~Dan
