---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Base Wars FAQ version 1.0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- By BPZ 5/4/02 dark_mikau@hotmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BASE WARS! It's A very great game for the NES. IMO everyone should own this. You probably do dontcha? That is why you are looking at this FAQ right? Oh, never mind This is a very great game with minimal praise form the Internet itself. Now, it is time to glorify this diamond in the rough by writing a Base Wars FAQ. Are you ready? Here goes... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Table of Contents 1) Controls 2) Game Rules 3) Base Wars Extra Rules 4) The Bots 5) The Weapons 6) The Other Stuff 7) COMBAT!! 8) Copyright Info 9) Contact BPZ 10) Thank Yous ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Controls ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Control Pad -Move batter/pitcher -Move in combat -Move ball after pitch A button -Swing bat -Pitch (hold for faster pitch) -Attack with weapon B Button -Attack with Bot's special attack A+B -Hold to "power up" bot in Combat Control Pad+B -Advance runner to new base (ctrl pad must be held) Start/Select -Pause ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Game Rules ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following section re-outlines the rules of baseball. There are two teams. one team wil populate the field while another team will be at bat. The pitcher pitches the ball and the batter will try to hit it. If the ball is within hitting range and he doesn't swing or if the batter swings and misses it is a "strike". If the ball is outside the hitting range and the batter does not swing then it is a "ball". Three strikes will make an out. Four balls or a hit from the ball will send the batter to 1st base. If the ball is hit then the outfield will try to retrieve it. The player then runs the bases. If the player hits it too far outside the diamond to wither side it is a strike (a foul strike cannot get a player out. There is only one person on a base at the time so sometimes the players are forced to run. If a player is forced to run to a base and the baseman catches the ball and tags the base the player is out. If a fielder catches the ball and tags the baseman he is out (except in this game but I'll get to that later). If the ball is caught without hitting the ground, the batter is out and the players are forced to run back to their bases. If a player touches all 4 bases, then it is a run. A run is added to the score. If the ball is hit over the fence and is fair, then it is a homerun and all the players score a run. The players with the most runs after 9 innings (each team has one fielding and one at bat experience) wins. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Base Wars Extra Rules ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -When a player is tagged the tagger and the tagee duel to see who gets the call. -If three bots are destroyed then that team forfeits the game. -Otherwise, the rules are exactly the same as regular baseball. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) The Bots ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are four kinds of bots CYBORG, MCYCLE, TANK, and FLYBOT. CYBORG This is the normal bot. Normal as far as stats. They run well and catch well. They move kind of slow compared to some of the other bots. Their special attack however leaves something to be desired. The attack is a jump kick that is awfully awkward to control. But, if it does connect then it will do 20 HP worth of damage. Not too shabby... MCYCLE This is the speed demon of Base Wars. These guys are fast. They do well in running and catching. In combat they can literally cover the screen. Their special attack is a flip. It only does 8 HP worth of damage but it is quick. if you press the control pad while flipping you will zoom across the battle screen. Thee are one of the best players you can attain. TANK These guys are kinda slow but they are powerful. They are a little slow in running and fielding but they make up or it with a good catching ability. Their attack is a charge on the opponent that is a little slow, but it does 30 HP worth of damage to the opponent. Like a tank, these guys are slow but powerful. FLYBOT this is another quick traveler in Base Wars (but not as quick as the MCYCLE). They manage well on the field and they manage well while running. Their attack in combat this quite interesting. Hold B to hover and release it to come down on the opponent for 15 HP damage. Every second you are in the air, you pay 1 hp. Don't stay up there forever. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) The Weapons ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Need power? Get weapons! They are a crucial aspect of the game. In pennant mode you can custom tailor your team's weapons and items. But, in [pen season, the weapons are a mixed bag. NORMAL Cost: Free HP per hit: 10 Firing Notes: 3 punches then pause Drawbacks: Weak, slow, and short reach, but hey, you get it for free! IRON GLOVE Cost: 5000 HP per hit: 15 Firing notes: 3 punches then stop Drawbacks: Slow, limited reach, relatively weak, it's just an improvement on the punch. HAND GUN Cost: 5000 HP per hit: 18 Firing notes: 1 shot then stop Drawbacks: Slow, semi-weak, firing! FIRE GUN Cost: 9800 HP per hit: 20 Firing notes: Slow auto Drawbacks: A little slow, that's it... BATTLE GIMIC Cost: 12500 HP per hit: 8 Firing Notes: hookshot physics, hold A to go foreword, release to go back. Drawbacks: Not that easy to use, gimmicky. MURMASA Cost: 35000 HP per hit: 5 Firing notes: Press A rapidly to use effectively Drawbacks: Slow delivery, limited reach, you need to reset the blade often. LASER SWORD Cost: 60000 HP per hit: 2 HP paid per swing: 1 Firing notes: complete and quick auto, instant win if opponent is held. Drawbacks: paying hp, kinda short reach LASER GUN Cost: 68000 HP per hit: 3 HP paid per shot:1 Firing Notes: complete and quick auto, instant win if opponent is held. Drawbacks: paying HP, nothing else ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) The Other Stuff ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Money burning a hole in your pocket? In pennant mode you can use these options to make your team elite! CATCH This improves your coverage of the field, it works best with TANKs. NORMAL: FREE SUPER: 1000 ULTRA: 1500 HYPER: 4000 SHOT This allows the pitcher to fire much faster. Only use with the pitcher! NORMAL: FREE SUPER: 2000 ULTRA: 3000 HYPER: 8000 UNIT This makes you move quicker. Use it with the MCYCLEs for best results. NORMAL: FREE SUPER: 3000 ULTRA: 6000 HYPER: 15000 ENGINE This part makes you recover HP faster in battle. NORMAL: FREE SUPER: 2500 ULTRA: 5000 HYPER: 20000 SHOLDER This enhancement lets you knock the ball out of the park easier! NORMAL: FREE SUPER: 4000 ULTRA: 8000 HYPER: 20000 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) COMBAT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a lot of stuff to say about combat so I'll bullet point it to make it easier to read. Starting off -You must be tagged to go into battle. -You start off with around 160 of "bargaining" HP for your health bar. -The baseman ALWAYS has full hp. -The runner is deducted from his "bargaining" HP depending on how far to the next base he was. (NEVER runn off a base when the other team is right next to you with the ball in his hands). Combat Movement -The playing feild is 2.5 D, you can move up or down as well as side to side. -MCYCLEs should take advantage of their spin rides to surprise the opponent. -TANKS will charge foreword during their special attacks. -FLYBOTs cannot be hurt while hovering. -CYBORGs cannot be hurt during their jump. -All bots recover HP while standing still. Combat Itself -You must be lined up w/ the opponent to hit him. -A works whatever your weapon is. -B works the bot special attack. -Is a bot special attack is connected with you, the striker gains some HP. -If you don't have enough HP to pay for an HP paying weapon, it doesn't work. -If you hold A+B you will charge up your power. -After you are charged press A or B to unleash a very powerful attack. -When you are charged you lose 1 HP per second. Winning Combat -If you knock out the "bargaining" HP of the other player you will get the call. (out or gain of base depending on who wins). -If an opponent is reduced to 0 HP then he blows up. -STAY AWAY from a detonating opponent! -3 blown up opponents leads to a forfeit. Indirect combat -A hit from the ball will take some HP from the characters. -You can blow up bots while they are at bat. -Bots do recover a bit of HP if they are on the bench. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) Copyright Info ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is my FAQ (c) 2002 Bill Pzedpelski I will not tolerate a posting on a website without my digitally written consent.
