What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version 1.0 (1/19/09): The first version of this FAQ. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Exciting Boxing was a game for the Famicom which had an interesting gimmick of sorts: a life-size inflatable boxer with built-in sensors that you used to play this game with. The game itself is very simple, in that there is either a training mode or a fighting (VS) mode. You train up to become strong and to build up your character, and then go into the fights in VS mode to clobber your opponents. The game itself is rather short since there are only seven regular fights, so chances are you will spend most of your time in this game training for them. The only drawback is that a password system is used, and the passwords are 20 characters long! Nonetheless, if you can get ahold of this game somehow, even if just for the experience of beating up an inflatable boxer, this may be worth a shot! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= NOTE: The following controls are used with the Famicom controller. During the actual game (past the menu screens), your actions are determined by where you hit the inflatable boxer and the sensors inside of it. Control Pad: Move cursor (on name/password screens) Start: Begin game Select: Select character (on name/password screens) ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ========== Game Modes ========== When you first start a new game, you will be able to enter your character's name. If you are continuing a previous game, you can select "Continue" on the title screen, where you must enter a 20-character password. You get these passwords on the main menu screen after you enter your name. The game modes are as follows: Strength: You can view your current strength levels, as well as experience from VS Mode fights, in this mode. When you first start the game, all of the meters will be half full, which is the default level. To increase these levels, you need to take part in the Training mode to beef up your power and speed levels (this is essential to your success in the actual VS Mode fights). As you participate in VS Mode, these levels will gradually decrease, so be sure to do Training mode often to maintain your peak condition. Training: In this mode, you will be in a 60-second sparring session. A man will hold up training gloves in various positions while the name of the attack you should be using will be displayed on the screen. To complete this training, you need to hit the targets in quick succession (with both arms if possible, to build up strength levels equally). If you miss, you will not be penalized, but the training can only help you. Your hits will be registered by the sensors within the inflatable boxer character used with this game. It is highly recommended that you do this training often in between fights in VS Mode to maintain your strength levels (check them in the Strength mode). It is also important to quickly react in this mode, as you also have speed meters to fill (which have an effect on how quickly you can execute your punches in fights)! VS Mode: This is the main game mode, where you partake in actual fights against computer opponents. The view will be in first person mode, so you are the fighter, obviously. You attack the opponent by punching the inflatable boxer character that comes with the game, much like in Training mode. You will also be able to move back and forth to dodge your opponent's attacks. There will be health meters at the bottom for each of you, and as you land attacks on your opponent, his meter will deplete, and vice versa. If you deplete the opponent's health bar enough, they will be knocked to the ground, and the referee will start the count to 10. During this time of "rest", you will both slowly regain health, as well as in between rounds. If the opponent does not get up before 10 is reached, the match is over and you win by TKO. It should also be noted that if you knock your opponent down three times in the same match, you will automatically win. If you lose a match, you will simply have the loss on your record, but will have to reface that opponent in order to proceed. End: As the name implies, this will take you back to the title screen. Be sure to write down the password before selecting End, or else you may not be able to continue where you left off! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5. VS Mode -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Here I will provide a list of the opponents you will face, in the order you face them. As far as any particular strategy goes, the typical ones apply. If it appears your opponent is about to attack, move to the sides to dodge it. Also, keep an eye on where your opponent's gloves are, and attack the unguarded portion (if his gloves are in front of his face, attack with body/straight shots; if his lower half is blocked, use hooks/jabs to hit the face). It was also noted in the previous section, but Training mode is essential to winning these fights. After a fight, it is necessary to do training so that your strength levels are at their maximum before proceeding. It really does make a difference, trust me. That being said, if you are having trouble winning any of these fights, go back into Training and practice well in order to succeed. 1.
