What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version 1.0 (8/4/10): The first, complete version of this guide. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ganbare Goemon Gaiden is the first of two games for the Famicom starring the characters from the Goemon/Mystical Ninja manga. The game is an RPG, as you can see, but it is geared towards children (as in, it is easy). The story progression is very much linear, with very few confusing points even if you do not understand Japanese. The bosses are easy and it is very simple to end up quite overpowered throughout the course of the game. Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun playing through this game, despite it being a bit on the short side. Check it out! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Control Pad: Move cursor, move character outside of battle A: Action button, bring up command menu B: Cancel commands, go back on menu screens ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ======== Pre-Game ======== At the title screen, you will come to a menu screen with the following two options: New Game (はじめる) Continue (つづける) If you are starting a new game, you will be asked to choose the text speed: Fast (はやい) Normal (ふつう) Slow (おそい) Once you do that, the game will begin! ======== Gameplay ======== As you would expect, this game is played from a top-down perspective. All actions are done through a command screen, which appears when you press A. Those commands are as follows: Item (どうぐ): View your party member's items, and Use (つかう), Equip (そうび), or Throw Away (すてる). Ninjutsu (じゅつ): View/use your party member's techniques. Status (ようす): View your current party's status. Record (きろく): Save your game. In order to equip your characters, you need to first select the item to equip on the item screen, followed by the Equip command. You then select the party member you want to equip that item on. Finally, you must pick the location for that item to be placed (weapon, head, body, arms). If it is not able to be worn, you will see a message and the screens will close. You can only equip one piece at a time in this manner. To un-equip, you select an empty space in your inventory and "equip" that in the selected player's slot. As a general note, you can NOT sell old equipment at the weapon/armor shops. You can only do this in the item shops. Also, pretty much every town has an Inn, though they are not as traditional in each location. Some involve you buying noodles (all are the same price), using a hot spring, or simply sleeping. In such cases, there is no differentiation in what option you pick as they all cost the same. ====== Battle ====== There are random encounters in this game, and the battles themselves are turn based as you would expect. You enter your commands before the round of battle commences, with the fastest units attacking first. The commands you have are: Attack (たたかう): Use a regular attack. Ninjutsu (じゅつ): Use a special technique (consumes NP). Defend (ぼうぎょ): Defend against an incoming attack more strongly. Item (どうぐ): Use an item. Escape (にげる): Attempt to escape the battle. Auto (じどう): Allow the computer to automatically control your actions. If during the battle you want to regain manual control (after selecting the Auto command), press B repeatedly. There will be a pause once everyone's turn has ended in that round of combat, and that is when you need to cancel the automatic controls. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5. Walkthrough -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =========== Hagure Town =========== After the opening scene, the game will commence with Goemon and Ebisumaru together in the town of Hagure. You will be outside of the starting building where the opening scene took place. Start by going to the northwest corner of the town to the shrine building. Walk along the left side to the corner and search to find an extra 100 Ryou (the game's currency)! In the southern half of town, you will find the weapon/armor shops, as well as the gambling room (with red/white/blue stripes on the door). Buy a weapon (the Steel Pipe) for Goemon, Travel Gauntlets for both party members, and the Sand Hat for Goemon. The upgrades for Ebisumaru's weapons and armor are more expensive, but I would recommend buying them (spend some time outside of town fighting to gain more gold/experience). While you are in town, go back into Goemon's house (it's the third house from the left at the north end of town). Approach the altar and search to find some Beginner Sushi. You will then want to leave town and fight the enemies nearby until you gain a couple of levels each (Level 3-4 would be best). You can always rest at the Inn in town for a small fee in between. ========= Overworld ========= Once you have that experience behind you and have upgraded your party's gear, head to the northeast on the overworld. You will reach a large building of sorts; enter it. ==================== Magistrate's Mansion ==================== In here, follow the path going south and eastward. Follow it all the way around the room until you reach the first set of stairs leading upward. Go up to the second floor and open the chest in that small room to get some Sushi. Go back down to 1F and continue southwest to the end of the path. Take the stairs you find to reach 2F. On the second floor now, go north and you will see a split in the path. Go west first and ignore the first set of stairs, and follow the western path all the way around to some doors at the end. Enter that room and go down the steps inside to reach another small room. Grab the Secret Mirror item from the chest, then go back upstairs and out of that room. Go back west, south, and east to the start, and take the eastern path this time. Head to the east and north into an open room. If you take the north path, you will reach a side room with a chest containing 10 Ryou. Go back to the open area and continue going eastward. Follow the path all the way southward and around the corner, then head upstairs to 3F. Up here now, go north and west, then to the far north end of the room. Go down the steps to the west and open the chest in that room to find Sushi. Go back upstairs and go east to find two doors to the north. Enter the second door and go up the stairs in there to find a chest containing 10 Ryou. Exit the room and continue east to find two more doors. In the first of those two doors, go in and down the stairs, and open the chest to find 5 Ryou. After that, go back down and exit the room, and take the path leading south from the set of doors (there are two paths leading to the south; make sure you take the eastern one). Go into the room at the end of the path. Follow the hallway all the way to the end and enter the final room. Be sure to heal up before you talk to the Magistrate inside. When you talk to him, you will have to face him in a boss battle. View the Bosses section if needed. After you win, the Magistrate will give you the Note. With it, leave the room and make your way back through the mansion to exit. There will be no enemies for you to face, so your passage back downstairs will be much quicker. ========= Overworld ========= Back outside, head south to the guards blocking access southward. Talk to them and use the Note to clear the way forward. Go south and all the way west through the forest until you reach a small village. Enter the village. ======= Kankara ======= In town, be sure to rest at the Inn near the entrance. The northwest area is where the shops are. Buy the Chain Mail for Ebisumaru, War Fan for Goemon, and the Leather Gauntlet for both of them. The enemies in the surrounding area yield a lot more experience and money, so saving up will be a breeze if you need to. Stock up on items if you want as well, then leave town. ========= Overworld ========= Back outside, you will notice stairs directly to the west. The passage is locked, so there is no use going down them yet. Head northward and you will find a Tea House along the way. Talk to everyone there, then exit and you'll see a ninja running off to the north! Continue to the northeast to reach the next village. ====== Susono ====== Here, enter the house behind the item shop on the east side. Approach the table of accessories on the right and search to find an Ornate Hairpin, which is a weapon for party members you have yet to meet. Exit the house and you will see a small alcove behind the item shop and under the tree. Go into that small alcove and search to the right to find 100 Ryou. The Inn is in the southwest area. The gimmick in this town is that it poses as a noodle shop, so you can pick anything off the menu and fully rest up! Buy some items if you want, then head out of town. ========= Overworld ========= If you are not already at Level 6-7, spend some time in the area fighting to build up your experience. When you are ready, rest up and head north from Susono to find some mountains. The patch of trees along the south side of the mountain is the entrance. =============== Dodeka Mountain =============== Here, go north along the main path until you reach the split. Go northwest from here and you will reach another path split, both paths leading to caves. Go to the northeast cave first and enter the second room there to find a chest containing Sushi. Then, exit the first cave and head around to the one in the northwest, and enter that cave. Inside the western cave, go all the way west and south to a path split. Head east and enter the room at the end to find a chest containing 100 Ryou. Exit and go all the way west, then north to find stairs going back outside. Go east to the first path split, and head eastward. At the far east corner, you will find 50 Ryou inside a chest. Go northwest from there and continue north to spot another cave. Ignore that cave for now, and continue northward to find a chest in the back corner containing 30 Ryou. Go west and enter the next cave you come across. Heal up, then open the chest to face the giant boss Mukkaku. Read the Bosses section if you need help here. After the fight, take the Blue Jade and exit the room. Go back southeast to the cave we passed moments earlier. Enter it. When you enter, go south and you will find a chest containing Travel Clothes. To the north of the stairs is another chest with Sushi inside. From that chest, go west and south along the narrow path. At the end, open the chest to get a Scroll. Then, go west and continue along to the chest at the end. Heal up if needed before opening it to face the boss Shikkaku. It is another easy fight, so you won't really need help here. After the battle, take the Red Jade and make your way back out of this cave. Continue to backtrack through the area to exit, and return to Susono. ====== Susono ====== Back in town, rest up at the noodle place. Then, enter the house behind the item shop (it has an open door). Talk to the man in the back and give him both Jades, and you will then have to fight him as a boss. Check out that section if you need help defeating the Suzuno Suke. After the battle, the man will give you back the Jades. So, leave the house and exit town. ========= Overworld ========= From the village, head southwest and enter the Tea House you passed earlier. ========= Tea House ========= Here, go up to the elevated platform and talk to the old man in white. He will give you the Spring Ball (いずみのたま). With it, leave the house and head southward to Kankara again. ======= Kankara ======= Back in Kankara, head over to the shrine in the southwest area. Go down into the basement and go forward to the altar down there. Use the Spring Ball and the town's streams will once again be flowing with water! Before you exit the shrine, search the altar again and you will find the Stealing Wire hidden there (ぬすみのハリガネ). With this wire, exit the shrine. If you go to the northeast area of town, you can talk to the old man walking around to receive another Beginner Sushi. Now that you have the wire, rest up and head out of here. ========= Overworld ========= With the wire, go west and take the stairs down into a hidden passage. Use the Stealing Wire at the door to unlock it, then proceed up the stairs at the other side. When you emerge above, head west to reach a train station. Pay 10 Ryou and ride the train across the canal, then you will arrive at the other side. From there, head west and south around the mountains to reach the town of Okaka. ===== Okaka ===== As soon as you arrive, you will find that the only inhabitants are cats! If you go to the northeast corner of town and search the northern tree in that corner, you will uncover a hidden 100 Ryou! Anyway, head to the weapon/armor shops and upgrade your equipment. I would recommend the Oval Gun for Goemon due to its added stat boosts, the Iron Ore for Ebisumaru, and the Chain Gauntlet for Goemon. Sell old equipment at the item shop. When you are ready, go to the mayor's house in the northwest area of town. Talk to the mayor and say yes, and listen to the conversation. After that, you will end up in a dungeon of sorts. Unlock the first two doors with the Stealing Wire item, and you will meet a cat named Kobanneko. He will join you as your third party member! Continue onward and unlock the door leading down the hall. At the end, go upstairs into the mayor's house. This time, you will have to fight the Ponpokodon boss; read that section if you need help. Following this battle, you will want to get some equipment for your newest ally. The only thing you can buy here is the Oval Gun, which despite having a minimal attack boost from the Steel Claw he is initially equipped with, the defense/speed boosts are essential. After that, you will want to rest at the hot spring (this town's Inn), then leave town. ========= Overworld ========= Outside, you will want to spend some time fighting the enemies so Kobanneko levels up a few times first (Level 4 is sufficient and will not take long to reach). When you encounter a bouncing cyclops-like enemy (つのパケ), use your techniques (Ebisumaru is great for this) to defeat them as they yield a lot of experience. When you are ready to continue, head northward from Okaka. Follow the path as it leads to the north, southwest, and north again to a bridge. Cross that bridge and you will enter a cemetery of sorts. Head eastward from here and cross another bridge to find a Tea House. Talk to the people inside here, and continue onward to the east. Cross another bridge, then turn to the northeast to spot a waterfall and dock. Go east and north all the way to the next town, which is called Dango. ===== Dango ===== In this new village, head to the east side to find the shops. Buy new weapons for Goemon and Ebisumaru, Favorite Gauntlets for Ebisumaru and Kobanneko, and the Lead Armor for Goemon. Now that everyone is up to date, go visit the mayor in the open building north of the armor shop. Talk to the mayor, then rest up at the Inn and head out of town. ========= Overworld ========= Make your way to the northeast from town, and you will find a port at the end of the path. Go there and enter the building with an anchor on it, and pay 8 Ryou to ride the ferry. When you reach the far port, exit the area and go to the northwest some more. You will spot a cave in the mountain ahead, so go in there. ============= Gold Mountain ============= In the first room, simply follow the winding path to the back area. Go into the cave to reach level B2. There, go forward to the first intersection and head north. At the four-way split, go west. Open the chest in the northern alcove to find a Sushi. Keep going westward and south, then west to another path split. Go north this time and head west at the split to find a chest containing 100 Ryou. Continue to the north until you see an old man standing nearby. Talk to him if you want, otherwise go ahead to find another split. There are two sets of stairs. For now, take the western path and go down to B3. Follow the path around to the end, where you will see three sets of stairs. They all lead to treasure-filled rooms, as shown: Northwest: 100 Ryou, Roller Skate Southwest: Flute, Pipe Southeast: 30 Ryou, Antidote Go back to where the old man is, and head east. Go up the stairs there to reach B1 again. Back up there, follow the narrow path around until you reach the split with stairs in the southwest corner. Go up them to 1F, and open the chest nearby to get a Sushi. Take the path all the way around until you reach some more stairs. Go down them to reach another treasure room. Open that chest to find a Diamond (デーヤモンド). Now that you have this key item, your task here is almost complete. Go back to the previous floor and talk to the old man. Give him the Diamond and he will give you a Stuffed Carp (コイのぬいぐるみ). With it, make your way out of the mountain altogether. ========= Overworld ========= Outside, go east and take the ferry back across the water again. At the other end, leave the port and head southwest towards Dango. Once you reach Dango, follow the water stream to the south and west. Stand on the dock and use the Stuffed Carp to ride up the waterfall and onto the dock at the top. As soon as you land, you will see a giant robotic creature walk past below. For now, enter the village of Raiden. ====== Raiden ====== The first thing you should do upon your arrival here is visit the shops. Buy new weapons (High-Speed Tops) for Goemon and Kobanneko, Copper Shell armor for Kobanneko, Festival Headbands for everyone, and Ninja Clothes for Ebisumaru. With everyone decked out in the latest gear, sell off your old stuff at the item shop. Rest at the Inn and save your game, then go into the west house with an open door. Inside, go down the stairs to enter a maze-like area known as the Research Institute. ================== Research Institute ================== In here, begin by going south and east to some stairs in the middle area. Go down them to B2. You will see white barriers throughout the hallway. You can pass through them but will lose 1 HP with each step going through. Go around the corner and open the two chests to receive a Seal Case and a Roller Skate. Go back upstairs to B1 and head to the northeast this time. Follow the path as it winds around the room. When you reach the southern end, take the narrow path northward to reach the chest containing a Scroll. Then, go south and take the stairs down to level B2. In this room, follow the long hallway all the way to the end. When you finally get there, go up to a new section of B1. There, go through the first barrier and turn right at the end of the hall. At the first split, go north through the barrier and turn east at the next intersection. Go all the way to the northeast corner of the room, and you will find stairs leading down to the lower floor. Take them down to B2. Down here, go ahead and use the Stealing Wire to open the door. Enter that room and make your way to the northeast area. Talk to the old man there and he will transform into a Dark Bat, which you must face in a boss battle. If you need help, read the Bosses section. After the fight, the Dark Bat will drop the Bat Flute weapon for Ebisumaru, so equip that! Talk to the old man Gennai now that the boss is gone. After hearing all that he has to say, leave the institute. ====== Raiden ====== Back in the village proper, go to the institute building once more. There are a line of trees to the left. Search the middle (third) tree and you will find some Wild Grapes. Take them and head out of town (rest at the Inn first). ========= Overworld ========= Outside, step onto the dock and use the Stuffed Carp to ride back down the waterfall. At the bottom, head all the way southwest across the bridge. Keep going westward through the forest region until you reach the Tea House. Pass it and go southwest across the next bridge. When you finally reach the area full of graves, go north to find a giant blue creature called Nurikabe. Talk to it, then give it the Wild Grapes to make it disappear. With that settled, head northward into a swampy region. The swamp itself is poisonous so you will lose health with every step you take. Minimize your time in it by going directly northward through it, then continue north past the swamp. Along the northwest shore, you will find a train station. Enter it and pay 10 Ryou to ride the train onward. When you emerge at the other end, head southward all the way. You will pass a Tea House along the way. If you go inside, talk to everyone and check out the basement, which is guarded by ninjas for now. Anyway, continue southward to reach the next town. ============ Stylish Town ============ Here, you will find a new set of shops, as well as a casino. When you first arrive, you will not be able to enter any buildings. Go to the south end for now and there will be two people in front of a building. Talk to the girl; this is Yae-chan and you will have to fight her. Don't bother trying to win because you can not. Let the battle go on automatically and Yae will capture your party. You will then appear in a prison cell. Unlock it with the Stealing Wire, and go down the hall to the east. At the end of the hall, go upstairs and exit the building. As you step out, you will see a clone of Goemon wreaking havoc with that giant robot nearby. Talk to it and Yae will appear again before you must face False Goemon in battle. View the Bosses section if necessary. After the fight, Yae will join your party as the fourth member! Before we go shopping, go into the eastern building, which is the Passport Office. Pay 10 Ryou and buy a Passport at this time. Now, you will be able to visit the shops in town, so go ahead and do that. In the weapon shop, buy the Red Yo-Yo for Yae. As for the armor shop, get Iron Ore and Jinpachi for Yae and a Tiger Gauntlet for Kobanneko. While you're in town, there is a casino with a dice game this time. It is tough to understand, but it involves betting on which side will be lower, and winning/losing 10 Ryou accordingly. Anyway, when you are done buying new gear and resting at the Inn, head out of here. ========= Overworld ========= Immediately after gearing up in town, you will want to spend a bit of time fighting the local enemies to gain a level or two. If Goemon and Ebisumaru are near Level 19-20, you will be in good shape. It also helps to gain a few levels for Yae as well, even though she is strong despite her low level. Be sure to rest at the Stylish Town Inn as needed. From the Stylish Town, head south to find some stairs. You can not progress down them yet, as a wall is blocking access to that area. Continue west and north around the mountains, and you will see a large castle nearby. You can not enter it yet, so continue going all the way northward. When you reach the forest region, turn to the west and then to the south. You will reach a town along the shore, so enter it. ===== Sogen ===== When you arrive, go forward to meet the guards. Talk to them and use your new Passport to gain access to the town. Go to the armor shop and buy better gear for Goemon (Iron Shell and Barbarian Gauntlet). Then, visit the house behind the item shop. Inside, talk to the girl named Lynn, who is tending to a sick man. She will join your party, but Yae will stay here to tend to the man. Now that you have a new party member, you need to equip her. She already has the Nunchaku, so you can buy the Double Psi weapon (beware of its decreased defense power). Also, buy the Jinpachi at the armor shop (Lynn already has good armor equipped). After that, go to the port building in the northeast area and pay 15 Ryou to ride the ship to a distant land. ========= Overworld ========= When you arrive at the new port, exit to the overworld. Head northward from the port until the small stream to your east ends. Then, make your way all the way eastward. At the far shore, go north to spot a village next to a mountain with a cave in it. Enter the village. ======= Shuumai ======= In this town, first head to the armor shop. Buy the expensive Magic Cloak for Kobanneko. The Angel's Raiment and Shell Armor do the same but one is double the price, so buy the Angel's Raiment for Ebisumaru. You could also buy a Gold Comb to give to Yae later. Then, it's on to the weapon shop where you should buy the Centipede Claw for Kobanneko and Electromagnetic Pipe for Goemon (the added speed boost will be worth it). There is also a Vacuum Bow for Yae, but I would hold off on buying it for now. Once you are done upgrading yet again, spend some time outside battling to boost your money and experience, then rest at the Inn before setting out to the northeast cave. ================= Treasure Mountain ================= From the start, you will be at a path split. They both lead southward, so go south right away. If you make your way to the northwest area of this floor, you will find a chest containing a Force Scroll. There are stairs in the southwest corner which lead to a water-filled area. Follow the southern path all the way around to a chest containing Beginner Sushi. Make your way back to the first floor of the cave, and head all the way south to the southeast corner. It will seem to be a dead end, but if you walk into the southeast tile in that corner, you will enter a hidden room. In there, open the chests to find Sushi, a Mallet, and a Gourd. Exit that room and head east to the second split, then go north and west at the first turn. Take the first southbound path all the way south to the end, where you will find some stairs. Take them down to the level below. There, follow the path all the way around the room and go up the stairs at the end to the upper floor. Cross the bridge in the next room before going up again. In this new area, go west and north until the room opens up. There is another hidden room here; step into the first alcove on the west side and walk onto the northwest tile. In the hidden room, go south and open the three chests to get a Hamburger, 100 Ryou, and the 3 Sekkon (Lynn's best weapon in the game). Exit the secret room, and now backtrack all the way to the first room of the dungeon again. When you are back in that room, take the long hallway to the north, then take the second path going west. Follow it all the way west to a chest containing Chain Mail. Go back east to the end, then go north and west. Turn to the south at the next split, and go west to some stairs. Go down them to the next floor. Follow the path down there all the way northward to the water section. To the north is a chest containing Nunchaku. From the chest, go west and up the stairs to level B1 again. There, take the path going westward to reach a chest containing a China Dress (better armor for Lynn). Head back to where the stairs are, and head all the way along the eastern path to the end. Go up the stairs to reach level 1F. Up there, follow another long and straightforward path to reach the stairs leading up to 2F. Up there, simply go across the bridge and up the stairs to 3F. Before you go any further though, take a moment to heal up your party to full health. When you are ready, go forward to meet a giant monster in the middle of the room. You will have to fight this creature, Great King Chow, as a boss. Read that section if you need help here. After you win, you will receive the Yolk Kiku Drink (ヨークキークのみ). Goku will thank you for defeating the monster, and he will give you the Laughter Flute (new weapon for Ebisumaru). Once that is done, you are done here, so exit the mountain. ========= Overworld ========= Once you make it back outside again, you will want to head all the way west and south to the port again. Pay the 15 Ryou and return to Sogen. ===== Sogen ===== Back here, go to the building directly south of the port. Talk to the sick man in bed and use the Yolk Kiku Drink and the man will be cured! Yae will rejoin your party, switching out Lynn, and you will receive the Workshop Brush (こうぼうのふで). With this, exit Sogen. ========= Overworld ========= From here, make your way back to the Stylish Town (use Ebisumaru's Tobuun technique to get there quickly). Head south of that town to reach the stairs I told you about earlier. This time, go down them. In the passage, approach the wall at the end of the path and use the Workshop Brush to clear the wall entirely. Continue through the passage and go up the steps at the other side. Outside again, head southwest a short bit from the passage and you will come to an airport. Pay 15 Ryou inside and you will go for a plane ride to the nearby island. Once you land, go south and enter the village of Bahoho. ====== Bahoho ====== In this new town, you will find some very expensive pieces of armor for sale. To start, you should get the Barbarian Armor for Goemon (his last armor was the considerably weaker Lead Armor). You may need to save money to buy the Mirror Armor for Ebisumaru as well. At the weapon shop, the Thunder Bow for Yae is essential, as well as the Rocket Pipe for Goemon and Jet Claw for Kobanneko. It is important that you spend time outside of town fighting to earn the money needed to buy everything. Also, make sure you sell your old equipment! If you go into the chief's house (next to the item shop), he will ask you to get a Banana from the nearby cave. So, rest up and exit town at this point. ========= Overworld ========= Outside, head southward to the shore, then turn to the west. You will spot a cave, so enter it. ============== Acchicchi Cave ============== When you arrive, you will be in the southeast corner. Head westward to start. Along the way, you will find small pools of lava which will take 1 HP with each step you take through it, so be sure to walk around them when possible. In the southwest corner, open the chest to get a Gourd. From here, head directly northward to find some stairs. Go down them to reach level B2. Down there, go forward to find your first path split. Go south first and cross the lava to find three chests, containing a Hamburger, Antidote, and Wooden Clogs (useful for walking across lava sections). Back on the main path, take the second southbound route to reach three more chests; open them to get an Antidote, Sushi, and a Copper Shell (old body armor). Go back to the main path and continue west, then south and around to the stairs leading down to B3. Here, you will start off surrounded by lava. Get across it to access the main area of the room safely. If you go south, there are two paths you can take. Head west to find two chests containing a Bandana and a Haniwa. This strange equipment can be equipped by any character and used as a weapon or any type of body armor; depending on where you equip it, its effects will vary (see the Weapons/Armor sections). The eastern path leads to a chest containing the Vacuum Bow. Anyway, head to the northeast area of the main room to find a massive pool of lava to cross. Use the Wooden Clogs item you just found to safely travel across it. In the southeast is a chest containing a Deya's Gauntlet. Continue to the far eastern safe area, then head south to the stairs leading to B4. Once you arrive on this level, you can go in three directions. Go south to find three chests: one has 10 Ryou, the second is empty, and the third (left) one has enemies inside. Go back to the stairs and head northward next. Follow the path around until you can go right, then head right to a single chest containing an important item, a Chilly Bag (ひえひえぶくろ). With it, go back west to the main path. Go north once more to find one more chest containing a Jinpachi. Next, go back to the stairs and head eastward now. Follow the path around to the stairs, and take them down to B5. Head east across the lava, and go south around the corner. At the split, go eastward to the end, where you can open a chest containing a Hero's Banana (ゆうしゃのバナナ). With it, make your way back through the cave to the exit, and return to Bahoho. ====== Bahoho ====== Back in town, rest up before visiting the chief. Talk to the chief and give him the Hero's Banana. In exchange, you will be given the Woman's Face. With that new key item in your possession, leave the chief's house. If you have not fully upgraded your party's equipment, make sure you do so now (you should have the money after all the fighting in that cave). After that, leave town. ========= Overworld ========= Outside, go north and pay 15 Ryou at the airport to fly back to the mainland, then make your way back to Sogen. Rest there, then continue northward to the Teahouse. ======== Teahouse ======== Here, go down the stairs in the back to reach the basement level. Before you go around the corner to where the ninja guards can see you, use the Woman's Face item. It will transform your party into women, strangely enough. Talk to the ninjas and they will leave, allowing you to continue at last. Follow the path around until you reach a locked door. Use the Stealing Wire to open it, and talk to the man inside. He will give you the Freezing Glove. With it, leave the room and exit the building altogether. ========= Overworld ========= From here, head southward towards the Stylish Town again. Go west around the mountains and you will come to the castle. This time, go into that area. ============= Bear's Castle ============= You will find that the front door of the castle is locked and can not be opened through the usual means. Approach the door, and first use the Freezing Glove item you just received. After that, use the Chilly Bag and you will receive the Fire of Rumba which was contained inside the bag, oddly enough. Finally, use the Fire of Rumba to burn down the door and enter the castle. Inside, start by going directly northward along the middle path. Ahead, you will see two colored doors. Enter the green door on the left and open the chest at the end of that room's path to find a Mallet. Exit the room and take either path northward to the next part of the room. You can either go left or right. For now, take the east path and head upstairs to 2F. In there, open a total of four chests to find an Antidote, Sushi, Scroll, and a Rocket Pipe. After that, head back down to 1F and go to the northwest area this time. Go up those steps to 2F now. Up there, go north, west, north, and west again at the back of the room. When you reach the stairs, go up to 3F. In front of you there, you will see two sets of stairs. First go up the western stairs to 4F. Follow the path to the end of that room, and open the chest you find to get Deya's Bandana (a really good head piece for most of your party). Now, head back down to 3F and take the eastern steps. Up on 4F again, simply enter the door in front of you. You will find a large room full of blue statues scattered throughout the area. Head directly northward, then to the west and north some more. At the back of the room, go west and south around the corner to find some stairs. Go up them to reach level 5F. In this very open area, there are two chests. In the northwest corner, open the chest to get Sushi; the southeast chest has a Tiger Gauntlet. Head to the opposite corner to find some stairs, so take them down to 4F again. In this area, there will be seven doors, two on the right and five on the left. The contents of the rooms are as follows (doors are numbered from left to right): East #1: Deya's Bandana, monster-filled chest, empty chest East #2: 500 Ryou, monster-filled chest West #1: Connects to East #2 West #2: Deya's Gauntlet West #3: Empty West #4: Connects to West #3 West #5: Festival Headband, Sushi When you are done exploring the different rooms, take the long hallway going southward. Follow it all the way around, then go upstairs to 5F. In that small room, you will find a blue switch. Walk northward into it to move the switch, then exit the room. Back on 4F, you will see some stairs have now appeared. Go down them to 3F. Head all the way southward from where you arrive in this room. Go up the stairs at the end to reach 4F yet again. In there, simply go straight up the next set of stairs ahead to 5F. There will be fancy looking doors in front of you. Before you proceed, take a moment to heal up your party and equip the good new equipment that you found elsewhere in the castle. When you are set, go into the room. Go forward and you will be facing the Neo Sumo Robo boss. Read the Bosses section if you need help. After the battle, the old man controlling the robot will appear. He will give you the Gold Pipe weapon for Goemon as a reward. The man will then turn into a dog, it appears. With that done, equip the new weapon and exit through the door in the back. Go across the bridge to exit the castle altogether. ========= Overworld ========= As soon as you step outside, you will see that giant robot marching to the north. There is a newly accessible area, but you need to get there first. Use Ebisumaru's ability to warp back to the starting town, Hagure Town. Rest up there, then head northward from Hagure Town. You will find a now-open path between the mountains near the Magistrate's Mansion. Follow it and enter the village you come upon ahead. ======== Otoroshi ======== In this vilage, rest at the Inn directly in front of you. Visit the weapon and armor shops as you usually would, too. Buy the Rainbow Armor for Yae and the Copy Flute for Ebisumaru. Head into the shrine in the northwest, and talk to the girl inside. Say yes when asked, and she will disappear into the altar in front of you. At that point, a giant monster will walk into the room and a boss battle will commence against Goro-chan. Read that section if needed. Following this battle, the girl will return and continue talking. Say yes again and your party will be turned into clones of Ebisumaru (on the outside only)! After the girl leaves, exit the shrine and head out of town. ========= Overworld ========= From Otoroshi, head to the east and southeast. When you reach a small stream, go south to find a bridge. Cross it and continue eastward to spot another new village. Enter it. ============= Ninja Village ============= When you arrive here, talk to the man in white near the entrance. Your party will be reverted back to its original appearance, losing the disguises! Now, visit the weapon shop and buy the Boomerang Pipe for Goemon (another new weapon so soon, but it is worth it). The High Leg Suit armor is sold here as well, but it is way too expensive for you. Aside from the new weapon, be sure to talk to everyone here. Also, rest at the hot spring building before heading out. ========= Overworld ========= From here, head northward from the village. You will come to a mountain with a cave entrance in it. Enter that cave. ================= Northeast Passage ================= In here, you start off in the southeast corner. Go west and north to find a chest containing 50 Ryou. If you continue to the split ahead, stay along the west side. Go around the corner and open the chest ahead to find Sushi, then take the path leading northward. Follow it to the east, where you can open a third chest containing Rainbow Armor. Throughout this cave, you will find some red bean-like enemies. They hit very hard like most enemies in this area of the game, but they yield a lot of experience/Ryou if you are interested. Anyway, backtrack to the path split and go eastward this time. In the northeast area, you will find stairs. Go down them to level B2. Head south to the path split, and first go south to reach a chest containing a Magic Cloak. After you get that armor piece, follow the western path all the way to the end. Go upstairs to B1 at the end. Up here again, there are two paths leading to the east. Take them both to reach two chests, containing a Bandana and 100 Ryou. In the northwest area, there is another chest with a Thunder Bow inside. There is an additional chest in the northeast area, but it is empty. So, take the northern stairs to exit. ========= Overworld ========= Back outside, make your way to the northwest. To the north is a stream, but the bridge leading across it is broken. For now, go west and enter the small village next to the mountains. ======== Donpachi ======== When you come to this town, enter the open house at the south end of town. This is the bomb-maker's house. Talk to the man inside and he will not be able to help you just yet. So, leave the house and the town, and head back to Hagure Town. =========== Hagure Town =========== Back here, go to the northern half of town, and head east. Enter the third house from the left and talk to the man inside. After a bit of conversation, another man will walk into the room. Once he leaves, the first man will ask you to lead him to Donpachi. So, head out of Hagure and return to Donpachi. ======== Donpachi ======== Once you return, go back to the bomb-maker's house. This time, the man inside is surrounded by three enemies. Approach them and talk to the enemy to engage them in battle. Read the Bosses section if you need help here. Upon defeating the three Mr. Ninja enemies, the man you brought here will be reunited with the bomb-maker. He will reward you with some Gunpowder (かやく). Take it and leave town. ========= Overworld ========= Make your way to the bridge in the northeast area again. Approach it and use the Gunpowder you just received, and the bridge will be lowered, allowing you to reach the other side! So, continue to the northeast and you will find some stairs. Go down them into an underground passage. ================ Hokkaido Passage ================ This underground area is very much straightforward. There is a chest in the northwest corner containing another Haniwa. Take it, then head to the far east side of the room (there are no enemies in this cave). At this point, be sure to heal up your party. I would also recommend that your first two party members are at least Level 23-24 before continuing. When you are set, go to the northeast area and talk to the girl. You will be brought to a location atop a cloud, where you will face the girl and a robot who appears in battle. Read the Bosses section for help defeating them. Once you win, talk to the turtle at the cloud's edge to be taken to a nearby area. If you go down the stairs, you will be back in that underground passage. Keep going across the bridge and two people will come to take away the rest of the party, leaving you with Goemon only. So, continue northward until you reach the next village. ========= Nanahachi ========= Here, rest up at the noodle shop (Inn), then head into the northeast house. Talk to the man inside and he will give you the Ultra Capsule item. Leave the room and make your way out of the village. ========= Overworld ========= From here, still with Goemon going solo, head to the northeast. You will spot a mountain with a single space of trees in front of it. Approach the trees to enter the mountain. ================ Tongari Mountain ================ Here, simply go forward along the straight path. Open the chest about halfway through to receive 500 Ryou. Before you go any further, make sure Goemon is properly equipped and is at full health. I would recommend that you have some healing items in your inventory as well. When you are set, continue onward and you will be confronted by the Robo-Robo boss. Check out that section if you need assistance. After you win, simply go forward to the castle. As you approach, it will rise up and blast off, being propelled by rockets. There is not much else you can do here, so exit. ========= Overworld ========= Outside, talk to the man lying on the ground. He will give you the Beanstalk, along with a reference to a nearby lake. So, head eastward and follow the path as it heads to the south. Continue to the southeast and you will again spot the castle floating over a lake. Approach from the south and use the Beanstalk at the edge to grow the stalk, connecting the castle to the ground. Walk up it to enter the castle at last. ============= Flying Castle ============= In here, go to the back of the room and take the second set of stairs into the next room. There, follow the path around to the back end, where you will find a jail. Use the Stealing Wire to unlock it, then enter the cell to find the rest of your party. Talk to them and they will rejoin you. As you try to exit the cell, a voice will taunt you before the floor collapses beneath the room, sending you all into another sealed room below! When you land, go south to the wall and you will see Hondou (the man from before) defeating the guards in the way. He will blow open the wall before heading out as well. Now that you are free and with the full party again, go east (the path wraps around but the east route is shorter). There are some tough enemies down here, but they are great for experience, so try to keep your party strong while fighting around. To the south are some stairs. Go up them to reach level 1F. Up here again, go south to find two sets of stairs. First, take the southern set of stairs down to B1. There, head north to the next set of stairs leading back up to another section of 1F. The path splits from where you arrive; head northward to find a chest containing the elusive Secret Weapon (strongest weapon that anyone can equip, but it has its drawbacks). With that, backtrack to the room with two sets of stairs. Take the other set this time to reach B1. Follow that path around to some stairs; take them up to 1F yet again. Go forward and head down the stairs immediately ahead of you to reach B1 once more. There is nothing in this next chamber, so continue going down to B2. You arrive in the center of a room with four paths to take. Three of them are connected to each other and yield no treasure, so head to the southwest and go down to B3. In this room, simply go west and up the steps to B2. Finally, go south to exit the castle. ========= Overworld ========= As you exit, the castle will sink into the lake, destroying itself in the process. Hondou will appear once more on a motorcycle before leaving you all. Your job in this northern region of Japan is done, so use Ebisumaru's Dobuun ability to warp to the Ninja Village. Rest at the village and buy some recovery items, then head westward. Cross the bridge and head southward all the way to the end. Continue southwest and you will spot a town next to the shore. Enter it. ====== Minawa ====== In this town, head to the weapon shop first. Buy everything (Chain Claw for Kobanneko, Laser Flute for Ebisumaru, and Pioneer Sword for Yae). Also, rest at the Inn as always. After that, go to the port in the southeast area and pay 10 Ryou to board the ship. Ride it to the next town. ====== Toarun ====== When you arrive, you will find that the town is in bad shape. Visit the weapon shop here and buy the Deadly Pipe for Goemon. Be sure to sell your old gear at the item shop, too. Before you go, head to the southeast area where you will find four wrecked houses. Search the front of the top-left house to find a hidden 100 Ryou! After that, you can head out of town. ========= Overworld ========= From the town, head southward to spot a bridge. Cross it and continue heading to the east. When you come to the mountain, enter the cave in front of it. ============= Warm Mountain ============= When you enter this area, go south to reach a path split. Head east and around the corner to reach some stairs. Go up to 2F. There, go west and cross the bridge, then head upstairs to 3F. When you emerge on 3F, you will be able to go in four directions. The room is split into small islands with bridges connecting them. Go east one, then head south two to reach the southeast corner. Open the chest to get Beginner Sushi. Backtrack to the starting point of this room. This time, go west twice and north one. In the northwest corner, go down the stairs. Go up and down the stairs through the next several rooms, and you will end up in the center chamber on 1F where the chest is. Open it to receive Ashura Armor, the best armor for Yae. Be sure to equip it right away! Now, backtrack a bit until you are back on 3F in the room connected by the bridges. Go south one and east two to reach the center stairs. From here, go south twice and west twice. Go up the stairs at the end to reach 4F. In this room, go east to find a chest; open it to get another Secret Weapon. Then, go north and around the room to the end. Head upstairs to 5F at the end. Up here, stay along the perimeter of the room and head to the northwest area, while avoiding the lava in the middle for now. In the northwest corner, open the chest to find the Cat's Claw (best weapon for Kobanneko). Next, quickly cross the lava to reach the center of the room, and go upstairs to 6F. In this room, go forward until you reach the split. First, go east to the end and open the chest to get the third piece of Haniwa equipment. After that, go back to the split and head northward this time. Follow the path to the end, and you will find a UFO blocking access to the stairs ahead. Enter the UFO and talk to the lone alien inside. You will be prompted to give it items, so now is the chance to give it the Blue Jade and Red Jade you have been carrying since early in the game. Once you hand both jewels over, the alien will give you Pemo's Flute (the best weapon for Ebisumaru)! Your party will also be fully recovered! With that done, equip your new weapon and exit the UFO. It will fly away, allowing you to go down the stairs. So, go down to 5F. In this large area, first take the western path. Follow it all the way to the southwest and go up the stairs at the end. Open the chest in that next room to find the Justice Gauntlet. Return to the previous room and go back to the center, then head to the south. At the end of that path, you will find three chests. Open them to find another Justice Gauntlet, 100 Ryou, and the World Flute (second best weapon for Ebisumaru). Go back north to the center area, and head east now. At the end of this path, head up the stairs to another section of 6F. In there, simply go north to find more stairs, and go up them to 7F. Head down the stairs in this small room to return to 6F. You will find a lot of treasure in this next room. A total of eight chests are here, and they hold: 380 Ryou, Sushi, Trick Armor (best armor for Kobanneko), Deya's Bandana, and the Hyottoko's Face key item (ひょっとこのめん). After you open all of the chests, your job here is done. Make your way back out of the mountain (or stick around and level up a bit), and return to town. ====== Toarun ====== Back here, be sure to sell off older equipment and outfit your party with the best gear available to them that you just found in the mountain. After that, rest at the Inn and pay 16 Ryou at the port to set sail. As you sail away, the giant robot will emerge and destroy your ship! Luckily, the turtle from earlier will rescue you, and it brings you to a new area. =============== Dragon's Palace =============== Once you dock here, talk to the creatures wandering around. Then, enter the palace itself to the north. Inside, go forward and talk to the woman in the back. Say yes when prompted both times, and you will receive the Hyper Pipe for Goemon, which is his second best weapon! Equip it and leave the palace. Talk to the turtle and it will take you back to shore. ========= Overworld ========= After the turtle leaves you here, head north to the town of Minawa. Rest up, then when you are ready to proceed, head southwest to the castle. ================ Great Edo Castle ================ When you arrive, there will be guards at the gate. Before you approach them, use the Hyottoko's Face item. You will be given three choices on what to change into. Pick the first one (たびげいにん) to transform into fellow soldiers, then talk to the left guard. They will allow you to pass through the gates. Talk to some other soldiers when they appear, then you will enter the castle. On the first floor, you can either go directly to the center, or follow the path around the perimeter to reach two additional rooms accessible from the sides. Start off by going east and north, staying close to the center area. There will be a small path leading westward to some stairs. Take those stairs up to 2F. Continue up the next set of stairs to 3F. In the next room, go all the way west to find three chests. Open them to find 10 Ryou, a Force Scroll, and Deya's Armor. Return back to 1F now, and head to the west side of the room. Take the stairs there to 2F. In that small room, simply go forward and up to 3F. Follow the path until you come to two paths leading northward. Take the east path and you will come to a dead end with five doorways (this is the same on the west side). Enter the third door from the left and you will go on to 4F. Up here, you can go in four directions. First, take the northeast path all the way around to the next room. In that room, open the chest to find the Justice Shell (best headgear). Return to the stairs in the previous room, and head northwest this time. Go down the stairs at the end of that path to 3F. Down there, follow the path around until you can go back up to another part of 4F. Here, begin by taking the eastern path. Before you turn northward, walk into the southeast corner of the area to enter a hidden room. There are a total of nine chests here, containing: Scroll, Force Scroll, Justice Armor (best armor in the game), Hamburger, Beginner Sushi, and 500 Ryou. Leave the hidden room and continue northward now. At the end of the road, open the chest to get the Raijin Sword (best weapon in the game for Yae). Equip it and backtrack to the stairs. Next, head southward from the stairs. At the very end, go upstairs to 5F. On this floor, simply follow the path throughout the area. At the first split with two northbound paths, take the eastern path onward. When the room opens up and you have multiple paths to choose, stick with the northern path to reach the stairs in the northeast corner. Take those stairs up to 6F. In this large room, go north to find a shrine of sorts. Enter it and go forth to find a girl in the prison cell. Talk to her and you will be forced into a battle with the giant robot, Ohana-chan. Read the Bosses section if you need help. Following this surprisingly simple battle, the girl will escape in a flying machine of sorts. You will then end up outside of the castle. ========= Overworld ========= Now that you are outside, you need to give chase to the girl who escaped. Luckily, your party's health has been restored following that great escape, so you don't need to go back to town. You need to use Pemo's Flute as an item to proceed (if you equipped it to Ebisumaru, understandably, you need to remove it for right now). Use it and the UFO will appear, and it will take you to the electrical island in the middle of the sea. ============ Trick Island ============ As soon as you arrive, the UFO will be waiting for you in this room. You can return to the mainland by entering it. Be sure to re-equip Pemo's Flute to Ebisumaru so you can use it as a weapon again! Anyway, from here, head south and follow the path until you reach the first path split. Head north at the first split, then north at the second split ahead. Go down the stairs to B2. In this next small room, simply go forward and head back up to B1. You will emerge in another small room. Before you go onward, walk into the northeast corner to enter a hidden room. Open the chest in that room to find the Founder's Pipe, Goemon's ultimate weapon! Equip it and exit the room, then go down the western stairs to B2 again. There are more stairs, so go down to reach level B3. Here, follow the path until you reach a split. Take the long southbound path as it leads you through the area. At the end, you will encounter a giant robot boss. Read that section if you need help defeating it. After you win, the robot will be destroyed, revealing stairs. Go up them to B2. Follow the hallway around until you reach a locked door. Use the Stealing Wire to open it, and talk to the girl inside. Once you talk to the girl, a self-destruct sequence begins! This will make things a bit more annoying, but at least the girl will follow you out. Head for the stairs in the northeast area, and go down them. Continue by going up and down the stairs ahead, and you will end up back at the entrance. Go into the UFO to escape the island. ========= Overworld ========= Once you escape, you will automatically be taken to the town of Minawa. ====== Minawa ====== Enjoy the automatic sequence, which recovers your party's health as well. You will end up outside of the house at the end of the scene, but without Ebisumaru in your party. Save your game if you want, and before you continue, make sure you are ready for the final battle. I would recommend that Goemon and Ebisumaru be at least up to Level 28-29, and Kobanneko and Yae at around Level 15. Also, make sure everyone is equipped with their best weapons and armor. When you are finally ready, enter the house next door to the left. Inside, after a bit of conversation where Ebisumaru rejoins you and Hondou enters, you will engage in the final boss battle. Read that section for help defeating the Battle Boss. Immediately after the battle, the final scenes will appear and the credits will roll. Congratulations on completing the first Ganbare Goemon Gaiden! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 6. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 7. Bosses -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Evil Magistrate 48 0 4 20 10 40 80 あくだいかん Magistrate's Mansion For the game's first boss battle, there really is nothing to it. This guy attacks just like any enemy you've faced up to this point, and has very low HP. If you are at least Level 3-4, it will only take two rounds of attacking to win easily. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Mukkaku 72 0 6 35 20 50 100 ムーカク Dodeka Mountain This boss has a bit more attack power than the previous fight, but it still goes down rather quickly. If you are properly experienced and equipped, it will only take a couple of rounds of attacking to win. The most this boss can do is take about 5HP away with each single attack. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Shikkaru 70 0 6 36 22 50 100 ムーカク Dodeka Mountain This fight is essentially exactly the same as the fight with Mukkaku. It will be over in a couple of rounds, and the boss's attacks will do around 5HP of damage at most. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Suzuno Suke 80 0 14 35 20 60 120 スズノスケ Susono This guy is another pushover, attacking for a minimal amount of damage while having a low amount of HP. It will once again take only a couple of rounds to win by using regular attacks, so enjoy! Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Ponpokodon 100 0 15 42 30 15 100 ポンポコドン Okaka This is another boss that is not really tough. It uses a simple beam attack to cause damage. It only poses a threat to Kobanneko, and that is only due to him being at a low level right now. Stick with regular attacks as usual and the battle will be over within a couple of rounds. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Dark Bat 200 0 28 60 40 30 50 ダークコウモリ Research Institute This giant bat is not too difficult of a boss, though it can pack a punch if you are not properly equipped. Being that it is a flying creature, Ebisumaru should use his Gororin technique which is a lightning attack causing a lot of damage. Your party will likely be very strong against it, but that ability will definitely help a lot. Otherwise, use regular attacks and the fight will be over within a few turns. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- False Goemon 240 0 20 68 30 90 100 ニセゴエモン Stylish Town Fighting Goemon's clone here is pretty straightforward, with this boss able to hurt you more with regular attacks. Luckily, if you are properly equipped and leveled up at this point, you will have no problems winning with your own regular attacks within a couple of rounds. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Great King Chow 240 0 27 87 60 40 250 チャウだいおう Treasure Mountain This giant boss is tough and can be quite brutal with its attacks if you are not careful. Kobanneko's techniques will help bolster your party while the rest of your party uses regular attacks. Ebisumaru's Gororin technique will pack a punch, but I personally found that regular attacks do more damage. Make sure everyone's HP is high and you will be fine. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Neo Sumo Robo 325 0 48 140 75 100 150 ネオすもうロボ Bear's Castle This boss is tougher than any you have faced so far, particularly due to its very high attack power. It will hit your party members for 40-50 HP each attack, and can sometimes attack twice in the same turn of battle. I found no major difference between using regular attacks and special techniques, but Yae's Swim and Ebisumaru's Gororin abilities are quite effective. You will also want to use Kobanneko's status effect techniques to bolster your party's strength and weaken the boss as well. Be ready to heal your party, especially if someone gets below 60 HP. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Goro-chan 240 0 40 100 40 200 240 ゴロちゃん Otoroshi Against this boss, you will have a slightly easier time since its attacks are a bit weaker. However, the drawback is that it can hit your entire party all at once! Fortunately for you, its defense is very low, so your attacks will be extra powerful against it. Expect the battle to last only a round or two. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Mr. Ninja (x3) 200 0 48 100 60 200 20 サンニンジャー Donpachi For this battle, you are against three of these enemies, which look very much similar to the Power Rangers (popular back in this time period). Anyway, it's annoying since there are three of them to deal with instead of just one, and their attacks can be quite strong. It is nothing you have not faced leading up to this point, but you would want to concentrate on one at a time to make this battle go as quickly as possible. Regular attacks should be sufficient in order to win here. Hokkaido Passage Here, you have to fight both of these bosses together. Benten Priest is much stronger and can easily kill one of your allies in two hits, so you need to make sure to heal the person who gets hit in the next turn. Concentrate your regular attacks to defeat her; despite that only taking a couple of rounds, you will be beat down pretty hard before that point. As for Robo-Goemon, it can attack strongly as well, but has lower defense, which means your attacks will help to defeat it that much sooner. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Robo-Robo 400 0 42 120 76 210 150 ロボロボ Tongari Mountain This giant robot guard is not all that difficult, especially since it is only Goemon fighting it. I still recommend having healing items such as Sushi, so you can recover late in the battle. The boss's attacks will take no more than about 20 HP per turn, if that, so you are at an advantage if you are well equipped. Stick with regular attacks, healing if your HP is below 50, and you will win easily. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Ohana-chan 2000 0 80 165 40 240 200 おはなちゃん Great Edo Castle Despite what you would think, this giant robot is not all that powerful. It has very low defense for its size, which means you can absolutely pummel it with regular attacks and nothing else. The boss attacks once per turn, but you will not lose that much health from it (no more than 30 HP or so). The only advice is to heal your party if one person in particular is getting beat down badly. Otherwise, this battle should only last a handful of turns or less if you are at least Level 28 and have the best equipment on your party. Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Trick Warrior 3000 0 70 200 40 4 220 からくりむしゃ Trick Island Like the previous robotic boss, this one has high attack power but very low defenses. If you stick with regular attacks, while healing when necessary, this battle will fly by rather quickly. You could bolster it by using some attack boost abilities by Kobanneko (ダボ!). Name HP NP SPD ATK DEF EXP RYOU ---- -- -- --- --- --- --- ---- Battle Boss 3100 210 58 190 40 N/A N/A バトルおやぶん Minawa At last, the final battle of the game. This boss is probably the only boss in the game that poses a true challenge. It has three different attacks: fire, ice, and thunder. They are designated by colored symbols before the attack occurs. The fire (red) and ice (blue) attacks hit a single person for a lot of damage, whereas the thunder (yellow) hits the entire party for a small amount of damage. After a fire or ice attack, you will need to have Ebisumaru or Yae recover that person's health quickly to avoid dying. Otherwise, stick with regular attacks, using Kobanneko's abilities to bolster your party in this effort. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 8.
