Introduction/Version History This FAQ is supposed to give you the 'just' on how to play Harlem Globetrotters game for Nintendo Entertainment System [NES]. v. 1.0 - Mode Selection, Basic Special Manauvers, Controls, Strategy. 1.a Copyright Information This document is copyright 2002- Skarm (skarm@hotmail.com), and may not be used in any way, shape, and form without my express written consent. This is basically the 'options' menu for any other game, except you have to set it everytime you play. 2.a Mode Selection Information Question: "Do you want to play the computer?" -Straight Foreward. Select Yes to play against a computer, either alone or with a friend, or No, to play against a friend. Question: "Do you want to be the Globetrotters?" -Asks if Player 1's team would like to be the Globetrotters. Select Yes if you want to, No if you would like to be the other guys... (I think they're called the Generals, could be wrong though ;)) Question: "How many players on your team?" -Select 'one' if you want to play alone on your team. If you select 'two' your friend will also be on your team. If you have selected NOT to play against the computer previously, your friend will be on the other team of course. Question: "What level would you like the play?" -Difficulty question. Rookie is the easiest, Pro is the hardest. Question: "How many minutes do you want a quarter to be?" -Asking the length of each quarter (incase you don't know, there are 4). Straight foreward. ********************** 3. Controls The NES controller has a direction bad and four buttons, Start, Select, A, and B. following this are how each button is used in each of the 3 situations. 3.a Mode Selection Directional Pad: Up and Down select through the various choices Start: Selects through the Choices like the Directional Pad Select: Chose your mode and advance to the next question A: Nothing B: Nothing 3.b Offense Directional Pad: Move your selected character around. (For player 1 your selected character is yellow if you are playing as Harlem, and Green if you are the Generals.) Start: Pauses the Game, press start again to un-pause Select: Nothing (Exception: See section 5, special manuvers) A: When moving the directional pad towards a teammate, pressing A will execute a pass B: Holding B will cause your player to jump into the air, when the B button is released, the shot will be taken. If you hold B when your player finishes jumping, you will be called for then Traveling Foul. 3.c Defense Directional Pad: Move your selected character around. Start: Pauses the game (same as offense) Select: Nothing A: Nothing appearently B: Steal the ball from the opposing team. (You must be standing directly beside the player with the ball) 3.d Jump Ball Directional Pad: Nothing Start: Nothing Select: Nothing B: if you press this at the correct time, just before the ball is thrown, you will pull the referee's pants down and automatically get the ball with your center. A: Its hard but if you time it right you will *Actually jump and get the ball fairly o_o* 3.e Free Throw Directional Pad: Left and Right only to line up your player with the basket. Start: Nothing Select: Nothing B: Shoot A: Nothing ********************** 4. Strategy There are some distinct strategies that should be tried to maximize the pounding of the computer. When they are on rookie of course, its easy to get into triple digits while they have almost nothing. On pro difficulty, the same tactics can be used but the game will be much closer. 4.a Offense Tactic A: Perimeter Play (best offensive method): Pass the ball around the other edge of the 3 point line under the computer is too slow to follow your movements, then run the ball in, jump and hold the ball until the defender lands again and release for a 90% chance of a basket. Tactic B: Dash Drive: Works only when you get a turnover from a steal. Simply pass the ball ahead or run it down, and out-wait the single defender (which always seems to be there) with the jump to score. 4.b Defense Tactic A: Turnover Method (best defensive method): Wait for the computer to pass it up to their man at the top of the key. Simply press B to get a turnover. This works more then you would think, and leads you with a good oppertunity to try the Dash Drive offensive tactic, or the more patient method of Perimeter Play. Tactic B: Intercept: Play the intercept. Stay on a man on either to the top or the bottom of the 3 point line. Hopefully the guy at the top of the key will pass to the one you're guarding, *if* your lucky. 4.c Multiplayer If your playing on a team with another human player, you have a very good chance of winning. Two people playing together are far more then a match for the computer, even on Pro difficulty. Tactic A: Inside the Key: While one player slowly takes the ball down the court, the other stands in the middle of the key. As the player with the ball passes it quickly to one side, back to the center, then to the other, then to the player in the key. The player quickly takes a shot. Tactic B: Multiplayer Dash Drive: Since you have control of 2 people on the court, its easier to hit that guy streaking far up with a pass. Simple and easy to use. ********************** 5. Special Manuvers NOTE: THESE WILL WORK ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE SELECTED THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS AS YOUR TEAM! Special Pass: Pressing Select with a direction button will create a behind the back pass which is quicker than the normal pass. It seems to get interecpted by the computer more often though. Slam Dunk: When on a clean break if you are running and you press B to take a shot, and you happen to be at the correct distance from the net, your player will make a slam dunk that sends the crowd in cheers. Piggy Back Slam: Unknown at the moment. I'm trying to figure this out. If you have any info please email me and I'll put it in a FAQ update. Pull Down the Referee's Pants: During a jump ball if you press B or A at the correct time right before he throws up the ball, your player will pull down the referee's pants, and get the ball automatically. Trip the Referee: When a free throw has been called, the players will run down to the key area, and the ref will run by, a well timed B button will send him to the floor. Ball on Elastic: Happens only when your taking a free throw. Unknown to me at the moment. See Piggy back slam. ********************** 6. You- For reading the guide this far, and hopefully you got some sort of use out of it. **** This FAQ is designed to fill some of the old Requests for walkthroughs/faqs on www.gamefaqs.com. I'm hoping to help up by making some other guides based on NES or SNES games to fill those request lists for GameFAQs :) ****
