Introduction =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~ Boy: Sister, will you tell me a story? Sister: OK, I'll tell a story. A story filled with dragons, elves and kings. A story that couldn't happen in your wildest dreams! If a game on the NES ever needed to be released in the United States, this would be the one. 100 World Story is a hybrid RPG/Board game. And its multiplayer! Yes, the only GOOD multiplayer RPG on the NES would definitely have to be this one. An amazing game, that through the magic of emulation and translation, is now available for you to play. I have completely fallen in love with this game, and I hope this FAQ helps you get more out of this amazing game. 2. Overview And Controls =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~ As stated before, 100 World Story is a hybrid RPG/Board game. At the beginning of the game, you select the board you would like to play on (Dragon Buster, Treasure, Princess), the number of players (1-4), select how the players are controlled,(CPU or Human), name your hero, and select how many turns are in a game. Once you are in the game, the goal is to either work together to finish the quest in the shortest time possible (boring...), or compete against each other to see who can get the most points. Each player takes turns, and you have a set amount of turns to finish the scenario. ++++++++++ Controls ++++++++++ Directional Pad - Moves cursor in Menu, move character, scroll Map START - No use SELECT - No use A - Selects options in Menu, selects options B - Cancels options in Menu, cancels options 3. The Menu And Gameplay =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~ When you begin the game, the screen looks as follows: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | | | |=================== | |= Move Map = | |= Magic Stat = | |= Item Goal = | |= Equip Conf = | |= In Party = | |=================== | |=======================================================================| |= Name Attack Power Life Coins MP Left =| |= 1 =| |= 2 =| |= 3 =| |= 4 =| |= =| |= =| |=======================================================================| ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The menu at the upper-left is your character's controls, while the bottom menu is an overview of all the characters playing in the game. You can access both menus at the start of a player's turn or by holding down B and then pressing A to bring up the menus again. Character Control =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= MOVE - Moves your character on the board. Your character can move two unexplored spaces or three explored spaces. Explored spaces are available to all characters in the game. MAGIC - Casts Adventure magic. Adventure magic is magic that helps you teleport or move extra spaces on the board, such as the Move spells. You cannot cast Battle magic using this command, except for Heal spells, which can be used in Adventure and Battle mode. ITEM - Uses an item in your inventory EQUIP - Equip armor, weapons, or shields from your inventory PARTY - Form parties with other players. You start out with four separate parties if you play with four separate players, but can form parties by moving to the same space that another player is on and selecting this option. This option is only available when you are occupying the same place as another player. The advantages of being in a party is the ability to go into battles together, gain experience from quests together, and gang up on other players >:) MAP - You can either scroll the map in this mode, or bring up a giant world map. To scroll the map, just select Scroll and move around the map using the D-Pad. You can exit this mode at any time by hitting the B Button. The Locate mode will bring up a world map where you can see all the towns and locations on the map. This is very useful when you need to bring something to a town on one of the quests. STAT - Brings up the status of your player or any of the players in the game. Shows your/their attack, defense, agility, hit points, magic ability, and current experience. If computer-controlled, also shows what personality he/she has. GOAL - Shows all current quests you are working on CONF - From this menu, you can configure the game to your liking. You can change the encounter rate to either low or high, change the message speed to either slow or fast, and also increase the number of turns in the game (we call this cheating...). Also, you can change whether or not a player is computer-controlled or human, useful for when your friend just came over and wants to play, and if the player is computer-controlled, you can change their personality. The personalities are: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- HEROIC - Does as many quests as possible. Will help you if you are losing a fight. Tends to do a lot of minor quests instead of focusing on the major one. FRIENDLY - Helps you out whenever possible. Joins your fights if within range no matter what, and will frequently party up with you. CUNNING - Works for himself. Will not party up with you unless you are going his way, and will not join fights with you unless it's the major Dragon fight. Tends to focus on the major quest, and is the most difficult opponent to face when you are competing. EVIL - Hates your face. Will attack you even if you are not doing anything. Does little to no quests, and instead focuses on killing you and your teammates. DO NOT PLAY ALONE WITH AN EVIL CPU. As soon as the game starts, he attacks you. Since you are both Level 1, a long, boring fight ensues, which is difficult to run away from. Otherwise, he can be fun to play with. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- IN - Goes into a town, castle, cave, forest, or swamp. Option only available when you are occupying the same space that a town, castle, cave, forest, or swamp is. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Overview Menu =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~ NAME - The name you have given your character. The default names for the characters are Red, Blue, Green, and White, in respect to Player 1,2,3, and 4. ATTACK POWER - The power of your attacks. You start out with an Attack Power of 3. As you gain levels and equip new weapons, your Attack Power goes up. This is a good gauge of whether or not you would win in a fight with the other player. LIFE - The amount of hit points you have remaining. You lose hit points in battle, and can regain them by using healing spells. COINS - The amount of money you have. Money can be gained through quests and defeating monsters, and is spent on new equipment for your character. MP LEFT - The amount of magic points you have remaining. You spend magic points when you use any kind of magic. You regain magic points over time. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ +++++++++++ GAMEPLAY +++++++++++ =========== Setting Up =========== 1. Pick the scenario you want, in this case Dragon Buster 2. Have a friend over? Let him play too. Pick Hum 2 CPU 2 3. You guys put in your names 4. Keep the default amount of turns, it's more fun that way 5. Watch the intro message and let the King tell you about the Dragon ripping up his kingdom. Laugh at his funny beard, and now the real game begins. =============== The First Turn =============== When you begin at the castle, your first priority is to visit a town and pick up some weapons and armor and also a spell or two. The first town is Dragon Buster is always 1e - 1s from the castle, so head there and pick up some weapons and armor. If you visit the town Pub, you might also receive a quest. ======= Quests ======= Quests are the most important part of the game, as they net you experience, weapons, armor, and gold. You get quests by visiting Pubs in towns or visiting Event spaces on the gameboard. Usually, a quest will require you to travel from one town to another one, or kill a monster in a nearby area. You'll receive your award immediately after you complete your quest. You can view all the quests you are participating in currently at any time by selecting the Goal option in the Character Control menu. *Note* - Pay attention during other player's turns. If they accept a quest that says "for everybody", you too can complete the quest and steal experience and treasure from the other player. ========= Fighting ========= If you end your turn on a blank gamespace, there is a good chance that a random battle will occur. Like most RPGs, the typical Fight-Item-Magic- Run menu pops up, and the enemy appears in a window above it. The unique (and idiotic) thing about battles is that you get one turn to do anything, and then play goes to the next player. So once you get in a random battle, you fight once, the monster fights once, and the next turn begins. Stupid, so stupid. But also, if you are in a party, everyone else helps too, and if you aren't, they can still come by and help. This is crucial for the Battles around the Dragon caves and the Dragons themselves. It also makes the fights a lot easier. ====== Dying ====== Whadda ya mean, you died? God, of all the incompetent...no, no, I'll hold my tongue. It happens to the best of us. So you died, either from a monster or a nasty friend/CPU. What happens? You start back at the castle, minus some of your gold and your experience. And the friend who killed you got your gold and some experience to boot. This can be a real pain when your friend/enemy picks on you and your levels constantly go down and you are too poor to buy new equipment to survive. If this happens, beat the crap out of your friend, or continually beat up on the CPU for the fun of it. Damn computers think they own the world... ================ Ending The Game ================ Ending the game sounds easy, but can be quite a task: defeat the Dragon who is either A.) terrorizing the countryside, B.) has treasure, or C.) kidnapped the princess (not the most original storylines, but hey, what are you gonna do). The Dragon is the big boss of each game, and is pretty much impossible to beat on your own. Once you beat the Dragon, god willing, the game ends and the points are tallied up. The ending shows up and then you are told who the most powerful warrior was. Then it's on to the next adventure ! However, if you don't defeat the Dragon in the allotted amount of time, the game just ends, with no ending, and the scores are added up. That's pretty much it as far as general gameplay goes. Now it's time for help with the individual boards. 4. Walkthroughs =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~ i.) Walkthrough ------------- You have to break a magic barrier to enter the cave where the dragon lies, and you have two options to choose from to do it: - Buy a Dream (1500 Coins) and give it to Granny - Reach Level 13 and visit Gramps Once you achieve either goal, visit Granny/Gramps and you will receive a Dragon Sword and the barrier will be broken. However, the Dragon WILL rip you apart if you take him on at Level 13 alone. What to do then ? Why, get the help of your friendly mercenary Rayask. Rayask will be a big help here, as he gives you an easy +30 to Attack, and makes the arduous task of defeating the Dragon much much easier. Also, having your companions assist you in the fight will help too. However, once you defeat the Dragon, he tells you he was trying to protect the island. Either one of two things happen: the game ends right there, or you have to go fight another dragon at another location. Use the same strategy as before to defeat ANOTHER dragon, and really end the game. First kill the dragon, then get treasure and bring it back here. Walkthrough ------------- Once again, you have to break the barrier to reach the Dragon, but now you have three choices to make instead of two. The person who will break the barrier for you, Granny, wants a ruby. However, she doesn't specify which type of ruby she wants. So, you have to bring her three rubies, and she decides if she likes its color or not. More likely than not, she'll like the third type of ruby you bring her. You can buy the rubies from the highest-level town store, or do the following for each of them: Blue Ruby - In the nearest town from the castle, a man wants a pair of Winged Boots, in exchange for a Blue Ruby. This is a good deal, as Winged Boots cost 1000 coins while rubies cost 1500 apiece. Just bring him the boots and you receive the ruby. Red Ruby - In the castle marked on the map, a princess lies in wait for a hero to give it to. The ruby, I mean. However, like most women, she doesn't give it to just anyone. Only Level 10 and above need apply (Tsch, women). Once you reach that level, visit her in her castle for the Red Ruby. Dark Ruby - Sorry, folks, this one is gonna cost you 1500 coins from the store. Full price only, no discounts. Once you give her the ruby she likes, she giggles gleefully and breaks the barrier for you, and also gives you a nice shiny weapon too. You usually get an Ion Sword, rarely a Dragon Sword. This dragon is pretty tough, but its an easier fight than the last game because he doesn't have any attacks that affect the whole party and you can use the Dragon spell on him for easy damage. Just grab the treasure and bring it back, and that's the end of that. Evil-Looking Bloke: I'm engaged to the princess. I feel very sad. It would make me very happy if you brought Sara back. King: Sara must be brought back. Please bring her home safely Walkthrough ------------- The princess has gone missing, and they only way to find her is talk to the CatGirl, located in a forest in a three square radius from the starting castle. She knows where the Princess is, but won't talk unless you bring her Fish. Fish costs 1000 Coins, and you can buy it from a shop. Give the Fish to the CatGirl, and then you'll find out the Princess was there all along (D'oh!). She ran away because she hates the Evil-Looking Bloke she's marrying. Too bad her feelings don't matter because she's just a princess, and bring her back to the castle. Once you get there, the Evil-Looking Bloke transforms into a dragon, and takes the Princess away to his lair. Follow him there, but be forewarned this is the hardest Dragon yet, and there is a Melee you have to fight before you fight the Dragon. Good luck, and be sure to use those Heal spells!
