Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This game is the first in a series of arithmetic learning games for the Nintendo Famicom. This particular game focuses on the basics of addition and subtraction. It's an old game primarily meant for educational purposes, and as such there is little variety. There are four modes, two for addition and two for subtraction, which contain short mini-games where you have to solve the displayed math problems. If you somehow don't know how to add or subtract, you may want to check this game out, otherwise you're not missing anything by not trying it. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Control Pad: Move cursor on menu screens, move characters in the games Start: Pause/resume the game Select: Move cursor on menu screens A: Use varies with game mode B: Use varies with game mode ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Game Modes -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ======== Overview ======== When you start the game, there is a menu screen with 4 modes you can access (details on those modes can be found below). In each mode, you can pick between two courses. Both courses are exactly the same, but course 2 is the slightly more difficult version of the two. After you pick the course number (コース), you then get the option to choose how many players will be participating. Once you do that (1 player = ひとりでやる; 2 players = ふたりでやる), your chosen game will begin. In all the modes, you are given 5 lives, so you can only mess up that many times before your game ends. ======================= Addition 1 (たしざん 1) ======================= Course 1 -------- Here you have control of a car on a straight roadway along the bottom of the screen. The two numbers to be added together will be shown in the top area. Press Right on the Control Pad to start moving, and use Up/Down to maneuver your car through oncoming traffic. Some of the other cars you encounter will have numbers trailing behind them. The objective is to crash into the car (great lesson here) with the sum of the two numbers above. If you hit the wrong car, your car will explode and you lose a life. Course 2 -------- The difference here is that instead of your car being positioned towards the left side, it is in the center. This makes it so you have less time to react to other cars appearing onscreen in front of you. ========================== Subtraction 1 (ひきざん 1) ========================== Course 1 -------- You are in an enclosed field with 3 rows of numbered squares. You have control of the white rabbit here. The objective is this: you are shown the subtraction problem atop the screen, and you have to hold A and hop over the square which contains the right answer. Doing this will create an opening in the right border, which you need to go through to complete the problem. However, there are two worms which move around the field as well, and if they touch you, you lose a life. Course 2 -------- It's the same as the first course, but there are three worms instead of just two moving around inside the enclosure. ======================= Addition 2 (たしざん 2) ======================= Course 1 -------- In this game, you are a small character inside a giant-sized mouth. There are eight teeth, four on top and four on the bottom. Each tooth has a number on it. To the right, you are given an addition problem, and it's up to you to drill the tooth with the answer. To drill, stand under/above the tooth and press Up (if it's above) or Down (if it's below) and B. In addition, there is a blue germ-like creature running back and forth. If you touch it, you lose a life, but you can jump over it by pressing A. Course 2 -------- Same as the first course, but there are two germ enemies instead of one to avoid. This can make jumping and drilling more difficult if you can't time your jumps right. ========================== Subtraction 2 (ひきざん 2) ========================== Course 1 -------- You are out in an open field with a row of hot-air balloons, each one displaying a number. The problem to be solved will be shown near the top of the screen, and your job is to move the little man into the balloon with the right answer. It doesn't end here though; you now have to move the balloon upward towards the top of the screen. There will be several birds flying back and forth, which will cause you to lose a life if one hits you or vice versa. Luckily, you can move the balloon in the four directions while trying to avoid a collision. However, the one at the top of the screen will be carrying a blue frame in its beak, and your goal is to fly into it. Course 2 -------- It's the same game as the first course, but there are more birds to maneuver around when floating in the air. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5.
