Easy to learn and master ^^ Left D-Pad – Moves Thomas to the left. Right D-Pad – Moves Thomas to the right. Up D-Pad – Makes Thomas jump into the air. Down D-Pad – Thomas crouches down. A – Thomas Punches B – Thomas Kicks Up+B – Thomas executes a Jump kick Up+A – Thomas exectues a Jumping punch. Good for higher then your head enemies, when you desire more points that is. Down+B - Thomas does a crouching kick. Good for long stretches of Tom Toms and other enemies. Down+A - Thomas does a crouching punch. Be aware of the shorter distance over the crouching kick. Up/Left+B - Thomas Jump Kicks to the left. Up/Right+B - Thomas Jump Kicks to the right. Up/Left+A - Thomas Jump punches to the left. Up/Right+A - Thomas Jump punches to the right. Start – Pause the game, Start the game from the Title Screen/Menu Select – Selects what game type you wish to play on. Only useable at the title screen. Game A is your normal, typical game, where Game B has a lot more enemies and smarter AI as well as the enemies doling out more damage to you. Game A is best for beginners where Game B is good for players who seek to master the game with the extra challenge. Note: You can ACTUALLY JUMP KICK BACKWARDS! It's hard as heck to do, but it involves moving in one direction and quickly Jump Kicking in the opposite direction. It doesn't always work and requires a LOT of practice, but you end up jump kicking backwards while still facing forward. This comes in handy on some levels. Points ------ How does your score add up? Take a quick gander at how you take it to the next level with this information. Make note that there are multiple scores listed by some moves and enemies, seperated by a "/". This is to indicate the score for hitting more then 1 at the same time. So if you get 100 for 1 enemy and 200 for 2, it would be displayed as; Move ---- 100/200 The Enemies & Objects That Pump Your Score ========================================== The Grippers ------------ The most common enemy in the entire game! They have this thing for Purple and Blue that's unfathomable. Kind of like punk rockers in pajamas. ^^ Kick ---- 100/200/400 Punch --- 200/400/800 Jump Kick 200/400/800 Note: Unique to The Grippers, every time the 12th enemy or object to destroy, is one of them, if you jump kick them instead of kicking or punching, you'll recieve a cool 5,000 Points! This CONTINUES on throughout the level, where if another Gripper comes out and is the 12th enemy, that's another cool 5,000 points. This count resets upon death and level completion. This ALSO works on stages 2 & 4 especially. Note #2, it MUST BE The Gripper! No other enemy will grant you this bonus. If you kill another enemy as the 12th, the counter resets back to 0 and if the 12th enemy you jump kick is The Gripper, you get the 5,000. Keep this in mind to scroll another Gripper out to help boost your score, since it's not a 1 time thing. Tom Toms -------- They're junior sized huggers with Green suits and a penchance for high flying acrobatics when they feel they're in danger. Their tuck jump, roll and kicks pack a small but annoying wallop. Kick ---- 200/400 Punch --- 300/600 Jump Kick 400 Knife Thrower ------------- These guys come prepared! Deadly knives are at their disposal, ready to nail you in the feet or head to take you out of the game. They're tough enough to require 2 hits for a take down. A quick set of kicks, punches or a combo, can help take Kick ---- 500 Punch --- 800 Jump Kick 1,000 Snakes ------ The poisonous variety of snakes are dropped down at random in Level 2, in little jars. They're impervious to your kicks and punches when they're released, and you must jump them to escape pain, but if you kick or punch the jar quick enough, they will perish as well. Kick ---- 100 Punch --- 200 Jump Kick 400 Dragon Balls ------------ No! Not those kind! The kind that drop down from the ceiling individually and hatch a fiersome firebreathing dragon to attack you. Is it a safe idea to take them out now...? Kick ---- 100 Punch --- 200 Jump Kick 400 Dragons ------- Or is it far better to wait for these fire breathing creatures to hatch and rise up to you? Far better ^^ Just remember to avoid their flame by either attacking them before they unleash it, staying back or ducking it. Kick ---- 2,000 Punch --- 2,000 Jump Kick [Can NOT be Jump Kicked] Confetti Balls -------------- They seem to be so innocent, you'd think it was party time, but these balls aren't festive! They're loaded with a timer set to go off and cause some shrapnel damage! Run like mad or take them down fast! Jump Punch --- 1,000 Jump Kick ---- 1,000 Red Poisonous Moths ------------------- They come through the vents and they mean to do more then 'bug' you. They pack a decent wallop too! Take them down before they take YOU down. Kick ---- 500 Punch --- 600 Jump Kick 500 Grey Poisonous Moths -------------------- Unlike the Red ones, these come from the repertoire of the Black Magician of Level 4. These come shooting out as fireballs and fly back at you for a certain distance before disappearing again. Kick ---- 2,000 Punch --- 2,000 Jump Kick [Can NOT be Jump Kicked] Fireballs --------- The other trick from the Black Magician's repertoire. These can be hurled downwards at you or straight at you and can release nothing, a snake, a Grey Poisonous Moth or even a Dragon. A well placed punch or kick can stop them from being far more dangerous though. Kick ---- 2,000 Punch --- 2,000 Jump Kick [Can NOT be Jump Kicked] Stick Fighter ------------- The first boss of the game and kind of a pushover. He whirls his stick around in hopes of batting you down. Two Solid Jumpkicks can take him out, while I prefer a Jump Kick and a few quick crouching punches. Bonus for Defeating - 2,000 Boomerang Fighter ----------------- Do you get this sudden urge to play Zelda 2? One wouldn't be surprised when you see this master of the boomerangs try and take you off balance. Duck or jump his onslaught and let loose upon his unprotected body! Two jump kicks or a flurry of punches and kicks is all it takes. Be warned, he may be defeated, but those boomerangs DO come back if they're already thrown. Bonus for Defeating - 3,000 Giant ----- What can I say? He's one VERY powerful man and aptly named! He might be slow, but those kicks and punches he delivers hurt like nothing else, and can even take off around half a life bar! I usually pray and jump kick in and do a few quick crouching punches and hope he tries to punch. If he kicks, you're going to have to hope you've got enough life to handle it. Bonus for Defeating - 3,000 Black Magician -------------- Looks like a hunchback, has a never ending supply of fake heads, should you knock one off, and has some powerful magic! Your best bet is to try and reach him with a full life bar! Crouching punches are all you can do against him, and after a few of them, he'll disappear, causing you to freeze momentarily, and then reappear a few feet away. If you crouch punch, turn away and turn back to repeat, [or stand up and recrouch] he'll be more apt to throw another painful fireball, but give you another shot in. Do this or simply punch fast and take your chances when he reappears. Bonus for Defeating - 5,000 The Gang Leader, Mr. X ---------------------- The one you're out to take down! Mr. X is no pushover like the rest of his cronies! He's not only a martial arts master, but he's the only one who can actually BLOCK your attacks! His sweep kicks, straight kicks and jump kicks will drain you but good! Half a bar with one attack, and believe me, he lets his reach extend to the max! Fighting toe to toe isn't always best, as if you DO manage to get a kick or punch in on him, he doesn't let back down his guard so quickly... and he HEALS too! There are 2 real schools of attack here... the First being, sweep kick like no one's business! He'll run into the first one and if you keep sweeping, he'll keep dancing into them and after a 6th hit, he'll die. WARNING! He can jump kick you while you do this! No matter how good your timing! I prefer the more difficult but satisfying approach. Two solid jump kicks to the head, and if done close enough, will be enough to kill him before he regenerates! This method is VERY tough to pull off everytime and requires practice and a lot of back and forth jumping, but if you nail it right, he's gone in less then 5 seconds. Bonus for Defeating - 10,000 Walkthrough ----------- I don't wish to bore or give you more info then you really need, so if you find this sparse, that's why. Also note, once you beat the game, the difficulty will rise a bit until about the 5th completion or so, where it remains the same from there on in. This is particularly note worthy as there is a pattern to beating Level 4 without damage [or very little] that only works at the fullest difficulty. Floor 1 ------- This is your basic beginners tour. Punch or kick the Grippers as you see fit, noting that taking down multiple ones nets points, and making sure you jump kick the 12th Gripper for the nice 5K bonus. Never jump kick the knife throwers as you'll almost always get burned the second time you leap. Practice your moves on this level, but always keep an eye on the timer. It reaches 0 and you're a goner. Also make note that while you can't outrun a knife, you CAN prevent the Knife Thrower from lobbing out another one by keeping the knife on screen as long as possible. It sucks though, since he usually follows you. The boss of this floor is the Stick Master. While he can be a bit of a pain, Two well placed jump kicks can take him out quickly or a nice flurry of crouching blows when close enough to him will also work. If you're running low on health, just weave in and out, getting your licks in when you can. Floor 2 ------- Nothing really too big to mention here... try and let the jars break in lieu of kicking/punching them as it's a safer course of action. Always jump those little snakes though. DESTROY ALL CONFETTI BALLS! These will explode after a few seconds and they can cover some distance. Getting a screen past them is a safe bet too. Also, let the Dragon Balls come down if it's in front of you and close, and take care of the Dragon for some decent points. Otherwise keep on moving till the Grippers and Tom Toms come on out. [In their first annoying appearance] When you get to the boss, the Boomerang Fighter, let him make the first move if you're low on health. If he throws a high boomerang, duck and then deliver Two quick jump kicks to kill him off. Just remember to duck the boomerang on the return. If he throws it low, jump over it THEN jump kick him twice and remember to jump over the boomerang upon its return flight. Once you complete this level you will encounter the first cut-scene in the game and want to kill Mr. X more due to that ANNOYING laugh! Floor 3 ------- This is where things get more complicated. Essentially this is Level 1, but with Tom Toms and a far higher concentration from both sides. Keep pushing on, remembering to crouch and destroy and jump kick the 12th enemy if it's a Gripper. Be aware, the Knife Throwers tend to try and box you in during this level and its REALLY bad when they come at you at the same time and toss 1 low and 1 high respectively. The biggest concern is the boss for this floor, Giant. Even at full health, he can take you down but good. The best thing to do is get in as CLOSE as possible and croch punch or kick him AS FAST AS POSSIBLE! If you're lucky, he won't kick you and you'll take him out in 2 seconds. If you get kicked, there goes half your energy bar... :( Not too fun when you almost have nothing left for health. Floor 4 ------- This is much like Level 2 in the sense that it's best to keep moving. For the first few loops, you can simply keep moving forward, doing the odd leaping over the Red Moths.. in later loops, they actually follow you persistently, so you'll have to develop a pattern of jump kicking oncoming moths and doubling back to kill off followers. The Moths will only go to a certain point before they stop outright and the Grippers, Tom Toms and Knife Throwers come on out. When you reach the floor boss, the Magician, get ready to get nailed fast and hard. He can take your life to 0 as fast as the Giant! The key thing is to NOT do normal height attacks! I usually try to get in as close as humanly possible, crouch and punch like there was no tomorrow. This usually takes care of the odd surprise and kills him off quick. Note that he can throw fireballs at your feet, which will hurt you, but if he shoots off balls above you, you tend to be able to smash them before they collide with you due to the games hit detection. This battle can be quick and painless [and profitable] or it can be death after death, Feel no shame in him beating you, as he's made tough for a reason. Once you complete the floor, you'll be treated to the same cutscene from Level 2 and feel even more annoyed by the laugh. Floor 5 ------- Here we go! The FINAL battle is nearly upon us. Floor 5 is basically much like Floor 3 but yet with even MORE heavy concentration. The enemies will continue coming on strong till near the end. This is also one of the few instances where the enemies will turn tail and run away, even the Knife Fighters. They give you a fair amount of room when they turn away or freeze, in some cases, and this is when you know you're about to come up against Mr. X. Be wary of him as he's NO push over. He's built tougher then he looks and he has the same kind of attacks as you do, only he's a lot faster and does a TON of damage to you. He also takes a heck of a lot more hits then the other bosses do and HE EVEN REGENERATES LIFE! It's slow, but it happens and it's VERY frustrating. The best suggestion? Try and come in quick and hard with a nice solid forward jump kick to the head. If he blocks it, jump back, move back or forward a bit and then try again. Keep this up and you will end up eventually hitting him and note that you take over half of his bar down for that. If you connect, jumping back isn't a bad idea, but sometimes you can actually forward jump kick him AGAIN and kill him. This isn't 100% foolproof, but it does work a lot of the time and is best when you don't have much health left. You can also try coming in as quick as possible and crouch kicking at him. If you keep hammering on the kick button, you usually end up making him dance in place and you will end up registering several hits on him like this. Just be warned though, all it takes is one solid standing kick from him to knock off a nice chunk of health or kill you, so this isn't always the best method when you're in a pinch. When you finally defeat Mr. X, you will end up going into the other room and be reunited with your love, Sylvia. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to last long and she gets kidnapped again, you wind up at the beginning of Floor 1... AGAIN! And you end up doing this ad nauseum. The second time you beat the game, the hearts that display at the end of the game differ a bit from the first time. Nothing else. General Tips ------------ - Once the timer hits 0, you lose a life. - The timer gives you a lot more points in the long run, then leeching enemies after defeating the boss. - You gain a single extra life at 50,000 and no more after that - Taking out a bunch of enemies at the same time yields a lot more points then taking them out One at a time. - Wiggle the joystick to get free of the enemies when they grip on to you. Your energy will get sapped fast enough as it is, but if more enemies decide to join in, you get drained even QUICKER! - Sometimes it's simply safer to throw caution to the wind and attack a boss full on, even with almost no health left.. you never do know! - Practice attacking while constantly moving. This will aid you in getting faster times, and hence, more points. Gane Display for Total Consecutive Game Completions --------------------------------------------------- When you beat the game the first time, it will display a 1 beside the level, and when you beat it AGAIN, it goes to 2 and so on. But, strange things begin to happen when you really get rocking. Take a look at what's displayed the higher you go in the chart. For now, 57 times through is more then enough ^^;; But WAIT!!! Wasn't there some kind of "Bonus" or Special Fight that other guide writers have mentioned about? Something that only comes when you beat the game 50 times in a row? Fight Sylvia?! Well.. I got a bit of a newsflash... nothing happens... no special ending.. no bonus level... no fighting Sylvia instead of Mr. X... nothing! I don't know how this rumour/myth got started or why others add it to their guides or report it around the net as true.. but it's not true at all. That's how I actually came to write this guide and an article on the topic. ^^ And I tried this with both Game A and Game B options... still no dice. I must admit though, who'd have thought anyone would challenge this, since you have to be mighty bored to beat the game 50 times ^^;; [Which, conicidentally, I was at the time.] If you'd like to learn more about the debunking of this myth and the article on it, check it out here; http://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3127 End Credits and Stuffage ------------------------ I hope this has been a great deal of help to anyone who has struggled through this challenging game. It was a lot of fun whipping this up and dispelling the myth about Sylvia and 50 wins. :) If you have any questions or comments, please direct them to me at; K_Flewin@Yahoo.Ca Attn: Kung-Fu This Speed Guide is Copyright Mr. Kelly R.
