**************************************************** * Little League Baseball - Championship Series FAQ * * by Lawrence Lin (llin@u.washington.edu) * * Version 1.0, 8/29/01 * **************************************************** ------------------- Table of Contents I) Introduction II) Gameplay Hints III) Power Analysis IV) Rosters V) Miscellaneous ------------------- ############### I) Introduction ############### To this day, Little League Baseball for the NES remains one of the better "arcade" style simulations. Published by SNK (of "Baseball Stars" fame) in 1990, it features 16 pseudo-realistic teams from around the world. The game keeps track of (limited) in-game stats and features a terribly convoluted password system for the "Championship Series" (22 characters?!) The gameplay is simple, yet fun. This FAQ is designed to inform the calculating manager about each teams roster, along with some other cruft. ______________________________________________________________________________ ################## II) Gameplay Hints ################## -------- General: -------- I think the "bat toss" that determines the home/away team is random. Press "A" and hope for the best! To subsititute, press "START" then "A". -------- Batting: -------- If you have a runner on 3rd with less then 2 outs, the CPU will almost always throw 2-3 pitches way outside to prevent a bunt. When you have runners at 1st and 3rd, always send the runner at 3rd towards home then retreat back to 3rd. The CPU will concentrate on that runner, allowing the runner at 1st to advance to 2nd base. Bunts between the pitcher and the 1st/3rd basemen really confuse the CPU. Press "B" + DIRECTION to steal a bases, runners will not leave until the pitcher delivers the ball (per Little League rules). --------- Pitching: --------- "A" + DIRECTION causes player to dive while "B" makes the player jump. Press DOWN while pitching to adjust the field shift. Pressing "A" alone causes the fielder to throw to first base. Pressing "B" alone causes the fielder to run to first base. Don't press "A" if no one is covering first base! CPU will often bunt to advance runners with 0 or 1 outs. If you have no idea where a fly ball will land, let the CPU position the outfielders. ______________________________________________________________________________ ################### III) Power Analysis ################### Direct from the game (I've added the "total"), it rates teams in four categories. I'm pretty sure there's _some_ correlation with the rosters (section IV), but I haven't done an anaylsis yet. ----- Korea ----- Pitching: 4 Batting: 3 Defense: 4 Running: 4 Total: 15 ----- Japan ----- Pitching: 3 Batting: 2 Defense: 4 Running: 4 Total: 13 ----------------------- Chinese Taipai (Taiwan) ----------------------- Pitching: 5 Batting: 4 Defense: 4 Running: 3 Total: 16 ---------- California ---------- Pitching: 5 Batting: 3 Defense: 4 Running: 4 Total: 16 ------- Arizona ------- Pitching: 4 Batting: 3 Defense: 5 Running: 3 Total: 15 ----- Texas ----- Pitching: 4 Batting: 4 Defense: 4 Running: 4 Total: 16 ------- Florida ------- Pitching: 4 Batting: 4 Defense: 4 Running: 3 Total: 15 -------- Illinois -------- Pitching: 3 Batting: 3 Defense: 3 Running: 3 Total: 12 ------------ Pennsylvania ------------ Pitching: 3 Batting: 3 Defense: 3 Running: 4 Total: 13 -------- New York -------- Pitching: 5 Batting: 4 Defense: 5 Running: 5 Total: 19 ------ Hawaii ------ Pitching: 3 Batting: 5 Defense: 3 Running: 3 Total: 14 ----------- Puerto Rico ----------- Pitching: 3 Batting: 2 Defense: 4 Running: 3 Total: 12 ------ Canada ------ Pitching: 4 Batting: 4 Defense: 4 Running: 3 Total: 15 ------ Mexico ------ Pitching: 2 Batting: 5 Defense: 2 Running: 5 Total: 14 ----- Spain ----- Pitching: 3 Batting: 4 Defense: 3 Running: 5 Total: 15 ----- Italy ----- Pitching: 2 Batting: 2 Defense: 2 Running: 2 Total: 8 Ranking by Total: ----------------- 19 - New York 16 - California 16 - Chinese Taipai (Taiwan) 16 - Texas 15 - Arizona 15 - Canada 15 - Florida 15 - Korea 15 - Spain 14 - Hawaii 14 - Mexico 13 - Japan 13 - Pennsylvania 12 - Illinois 12 - Puerto Rico 08 - Italy ______________________________________________________________________________ ########### IV) Rosters ########### Here it is, the meat of the FAQ.
