------------------------------------------------------------------- START OF FAQ ------------------------------------------------------------------- NINTENDO CONTROLLER TO ATARI 2600 CONVERSION FAQ Volume 1.11 BY Chris Pepin cpepin1@hotmail Copyright (c) 1997 by Christopher James Pepin 11/21/00 Actually got around to updating my email address and new web page location. 01/23/97 This FAQ should be available at my web site. THE FORGOTTEN ARCHIVES http://www.geocities.com/cpepin1976 Here is a way to convert old 8-bit Nintendo controllers to work on the Atari 2600, Amiga, and compatible systems. After both of my Nintendo controllers died mysteriously on me, my brother and I took them apart and fixed them to work on our Amiga. They also work quite well on the Atari 2600. This method only gives you one fire button. If anyone knows how to convert the second NES button for the 7800 and/or Colecovision, please let me know. 1) Find an old (preferably working) Atari 2600 joystick at a garage sale or wherever. 2) Have an old 8-bit standard NES controller, preferably in working condition. 3) Open up the Atari joystick and unsolder the connector cable. 4) Open up the NES controller and unsolder EVERYTHING. Remove the chip and cable. Take a razor blade and cut at the BOTTOM of the fourth stripe where it connects to a circuit. 7) Take the individual wires from the Atari connector cable and stick them through the back of the circuit board through the holes left by the chip and solder them in. You now have an atari 2600 controller made from an 8-bit standard NES controller! I've tried to be as clear as possible and I don't think I've left anything out, but USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
