Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Sheng Hen Pao is another unlicensed (pirate) card game released for the Famicom. It features a variation of 7-Card Poker, with added elements such as the Double or Nothing rounds (including a woman who undresses as you win), and a Slot Machine bonus round. It is certainly an interesting game, but seems to be rather incomplete. That is, if you win over a certain amount, the game abruptly ends and that's it. Getting to that point though is fun, as you don't normally see this type of card game out there (usually it's standard poker or blackjack). If you are interested, check this out, though you won't miss much if you don't (except maybe the pixelated naked woman!). ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ================ General Gameplay ================ When you are at the title screen, simply press Start and you will go right into playing cards. The game is a variation of 7-Card Poker. Initially you will be asked to bet 1-10 units before you receive your first three cards. You start off with 1000 credits as well. You will get two of them face up, with the third one face down. You can then place a second bet up to the amount you bet initially, then you will get two more cards, one face up and the other face down. This repeats until you have seven cards. They will all be turned face up at that point, and your winning hand will be determined if applicable. If you don't have a winning hand, you lose the money you bet. If you won, you will then be given the option to either go for double or nothing, or take your winnings right away. Press Down to take the winnings now, and Up to go for double. If you take the winnings right away, you will get the winnings added to your total credits, and the next round will begin. ================= Double or Nothing ================= If you choose to double up, you will go to another screen with a woman laying on a bed in the middle of the screen. There will be a face down card on the left side of the screen, and the game now becomes a matter of guessing if it is a high or low card. Press Left for high (Big) and Right for low (Small). Guess correctly and a strip of fireworks next to the woman will partially detonate, shortening the string. Your multiplier on the left will double as well, and the potential payout for your winning hand will double as well. You can back out at any time and claim your winnings (press Down), or continue to go for double or nothing (press Up). As you win in the doubling game, the woman will lose her clothing, ultimately becoming naked after four wins! At the top of the screen, you will see some numbers arranged like such: (## x 10~50). The first number is your total bet during the poker hand, and the 10~50 is a random multiplier. When the strip of fireworks is fully depleted, you will get a random multiplier value and you will win a side bet instantly (for example, your total bet was 40, and the multiplier happens to be 40, you will get 40 x 40 = 1600 units). You can only win so many times in a row however; it seems that if your total potential winnings is more than 5000 units (see the payout table as your value doubles), you will get a "TOP SCORE" message and must take your winnings and walk away. After you get paid (whether it's by reaching this top score, or by opting out earlier), you will go to a slot machine game for an additional bonus prize. If you win, your total will be multiplied by that amount. For payout information, see below. Once you are done with the slot machine, you will go back to the poker game. If you seem to have more than 5000 or so credits total, you can't even complete the poker game. Effectively your game is over at this point. ======= Betting ======= There will be four rows of zeroes on the left side of the screen. The top 0 is for your initial bet, and the three below it are additional bets you can make prior to receiving each individual card afterward. The trick is that you can only bet up to as much as you did in the previous bet (bet 8 initially, you can bet a maximum of 8 for the next one). For every 5 units you bet, a multiplier value next to the arrow icon will increment. If you want to only bet on the first round and skip the other three betting rounds, press B at the start and you will bet the maximum (10) and watch the hand play out. The amount of your bet is multiplied by the values in the proper payout tables (seen below), to enhance your potential winnings. For instance, across the four rounds, you bet 10 units each round (40 total). This will make an Ace Pair worth 80 instead of the original 2 (in JP 2 mode). Since the game starts off in JP 2 mode, it alternates with JP 3 mode. That is, the second poker hand you'll play is in JP 3. The difference is that it records the bets you made at each point in the JP 2 round, as shown in a second column on the left side of the screen. You can match those bet values but not go over them. The payout table is also increased in the JP 3 round, as you can see below. Other than that, the card game plays out like it did before, then at the conclusion, you will go back to JP 2 and alternate again. ============ Payout Table ============ If the screen says "JP 2", this will be the payout table for your poker hand: Winning Hand Payout ------------ ------ Royal Flush 10000 Straight Flush 200 4 of a Kind 80 Full House 10 Flush 8 Straight 6 3 of a Kind 4 2 Pair (J/Pair) 2 Ace Pair 2 If the screen says "JP 3", this will be the payout table for your poker hand: Winning Hand Payout ------------ ------ Royal Flush 1500 Straight Flush 300 4 of a Kind 120 Full House 15 Flush 12 Straight 9 3 of a Kind 6 2 Pair (J/Pair) 3 Ace Pair 3 If you are playing the slot machine bonus game, here are the payouts: Winning Combos Payout -------------- ------ 7 - 7 - 7 x300 3BAR - 3BAR - 3BAR x200 2BAR - 2BAR - 2BAR x100 BAR - BAR - BAR x50 3 Melons x20 3 Bells x18 3 Limes x14 3 Any Bars x10 3 Oranges x10 3 Cherries x10 Cherry - Cherry - ANY x5 Cherry - ANY - ANY x2 ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5.
