Sulpher E-mail: briansulpher@hotmail.com Version 1.6 Dates Written: September 18th to September 19th, 2002 I dedicate this to my old buddy Adam Skerkowski. You and I played this gem together many times, but we never did get a lot of money. Ah well, we need to crack a beer sometime, and recall all the trouble we used to get into! Also, for Cougar. I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the afterlife as you did in this world. You will always be in my memories, and you will never be forgotten. Also, In memory of Howler and Koonce. You two never had a good start in your lives, but you had a good time when you spent your time at my house. It was oh so unfortunate that you both had your already tragic lives cut short, but I can only hope that I helped make your life a more enjoyable experience. You too will be missed, but not forgotten. ----------- Version 1.0 ----------- -Submitted guide on September 19th, 2002 ----------- Version 1.2 ----------- -Submitted guide on March 20th, 2003 -Reformatted parts of the FAQ -Still waiting for word on Intriguing Situation with the crazy sunglass wearing guy, so if you know, please e-mail me immediately ----------- Version 1.3 ----------- -Submitted guide on August 23rd, 2003 -Reformatted parts of the FAQ -Fixed up some small spelling errors -Still waiting for word on Intriguing Situation with the crazy sunglass wearing guy, so if you know, please e-mail me immediately ----------- Version 1.4 ----------- -Submitted guide on November 14th, 2003 -Added into the crazy sunglass wearing guy situation with the bad result (thanks to MarioRulez for the e-mail) -Still accepting contributions ----------- Version 1.5 ----------- -Submitted guide onJuly 16th, 2004 -Altered format to make it easier on the eyes ----------- Version 1.6 ----------- -Submitted guide on 30th of October, 2005 -I added in Retronintendo and Honestgamers as sites allowed to use my FAQs -Altered the format to make it easier on the eyes of the reader ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------Table Of Contents-------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Introduction 2) Games And Rules 3) Intriguing Situations 4) Passwords 5) Strategies 6) Final Word ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------Introduction------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) You are flying to Vegas, with the intention of becoming filthy rich! You go into the casino with your bankroll of $700. You have four seperate games to choose from, and these are the games of chance that will make or break your dreams of striking it rich. But be careful, because the games are not the only thing trying to take your money. There are con men and con women on the hunt, not too mention the faulty hotel design. Even if you lose all of your money, Lady Luck may bail you out. You will need to be sharp in the town of glitter, but sometimes it just pays to listen to your instincts and let it ride! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------Games And Rules---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) This section is going to list all of the possible games to play, how to play them, and the rules of each one. o------o | Keno | o------o To win at Keno, you need to pick as few as one number, all the way up to fifteen numbers. Then 15 random numbers are selected, and if you have at least 50% of your selected numbers drawn, you will gain a payout. However, the pay increases with each percentage closer to 100% selection numbers picked. This is by far the hardest game to win on since it has such unbeleivably bad odds. I am unsure of the payouts, but unless you play a lot of numbers, you will not be recieving any substantial money. o----------o | Roulette | o----------o This is the good old game of pitch and toss. You place your bets, and the little ball is thrown onto the roulette wheel. The numbers on the wheel range 1 to 36, as well as 0 and 00. The betting area looks like this The board is turned to the right 90 degress in the game however): /\ /\ /0 \/00\ +--+--+--+--+--+ | 3| 2| 1| | 1| +--+--+--+ 1|TO| | 6| 5| 4| S|18| +--+--+--+ T+--+ | 9| 8| 7| |EV| +--+--+--+ 1|EN| |12|11|10| 2| | +--+--+--+--+--+ |15|14|13| |R | +--+--+--+ 2|E | |18|17|16| N|D | +--+--+--+ D+--+ |21|20|19| |BL| +--+--+--+ 1|AC| |24|23|22| 2|K | +--+--+--+--+--+ |27|26|25| |O | +--+--+--+ 3|D | |30|29|28| R|D | +--+--+--+ D+--+ |33|32|31| |19| +--+--+--+ 1|TO| |36|35|34| 2|36| +--+--+--+--+--+ |C1|C2|C3| +--+--+--+ Here are the payoffs for each type of bet you can make: Straight Bet (single number) => 35:1 Split Bet (two adjacent numbers) => 17:1 Street Bet (three numbers on a horizontal line) => 11:1 Corner Bet (four numbers forming a block) => 8:1 Line Bet (six number in two adjacent rows) => 5:1 Column Bet (one vertical row; indicated by C1, C2, and C3 here) => 2:1 Dozen Bet (1-12, 13-24, 25-36 selections) => 2:1 Even Bet (number comes up even) => 1:1 Odd Bet (number comes up odd) => 1:1 Red Bet (number comes up red) => 1:1 Black Bet (number comes up black) => 1:1 Low Half Bet (number comes up 1-18) => 1:1 High Half Bet (number comes up 19-36) => 1:1 In this game, you can only place a maximum of six bets per throw of the ball. 0 and 00 do not count as Even, and they are green, so they are unaffected by Red/Black Bets. o--------------o | Slot Machine | o--------------o You have two seperate games of slots to choose from int his game. You can play Pot-O-Gold slots in increments of the follwong amounts: $1, $5, $25, $50, and $100. The other option you have is Jackpot BAR (where you set the value inside of the following increments: $1, $5, $25, $50, and $100). I will explain how both of the games work below. Pot-O-Gold slots are your typical run of the mill slots you will find at almost any casino. There are your typical symbols on the one arm bandits, and you will probably recognize most. Some of these symbols are (listed from least valuable to most valuable): Plum, Lemon, Cherry, Watermelon, Bell, BAR, and Wild 7. Getting three of these in a row on a horizontal line (provided you payed for that line, more on that later). Now, you will sometimes get your money back, and this is handed out whenever you have a BAR in your first column. You also get this bonus from some combinations involving Cherries and Bells. AS for paying for a line, the follwing is the rule (including a diagram): _______________ | | | | | | ___ | | | | | | Two |HIT\___| |_| |_| | Credits |___/ | | | | | | | |\| |/| | ___ | | | | | | One |HIT\___| |_| |_| | Credit |___/ | | | | | | | |/| |\| | ___ | | | | | | Three |HIT\___| |_| |_| | Credits |___/ | | | | | | |___|_|___|_|___| The payment increments will be in whatever play mode you have selected previous to this. If you do not pay for a line, and it comes up a winner, then you are out of luck, and you will not collect on it. Jackpot BAR slots are a little different from the Pot-O-Gold slots, and I find them to pay a lot better for a little more risk. This one has a slightly differently based paying system than the above system. _______________ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | _____ | | | | | | | | ___ | | | | | | | | |HIT\___| |_| |_| | | | |___/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | BAR | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |_____| | | | | | | |___|_|___|_|___| The BAR lisitng on the right is set by pressing the A Button to cycle your way to the top of the betting totals ($1, $5, $25, $50, $100). You can only win on the middle line of this slot machine, regardless of your bet total. Each wheel of Symbols (which are BAR's, double BAR's, triple BAR's, and the almighty JP BAR's) has a symbol, then a space, symbol, space, etc. This means you have a 50% chance of each reel showing a symbol (12.5% for all three to show symbols). The beauty of this machine are the higher payouts for about the same risk. You can win incredible large amounts of cash on this machine, and to win you only need one of the following two situations to occur: 1) three symbols line up, and 2) a JP (JackPot BAR) appears in the first column (you get your money refunded for first space as JP BAR, second blank, and double your money for a first space JP BAR, second space BAR). o-----------o | Blackjack | o-----------o The object of this game is to get as close to 21 without going over, and having a higher total than your house dealer has. First, we will look at the value of the cards: - 2 through 9 are worth their set value (ie 4 = 4). - 10, J (Jack), Q (Queen), K (King) are all worth 10. - A (Aces) are worth 11 or 1 (only worth 1 if you would be over 21). A Blackjack occurs whenever a player gets a card worth 10 (10, J, Q, K), and a card worth 11 (A) to form 21. This will win the game for you, provided your opponent can not total their cards to 21 (in this game only this rule exists). When you win a hand normally, you get double your money (1:1), but a Blackjack pays 3:2 (1.5X your betted amount). If you and the dealer tie, then the game is a push. The dealer can/must stand once their card add up to at least 17 (they go till they are in the right range, or they bust which means go over 21). In the event of a push, your bet is returned. A Split can occur when you have two of the same type of card off of the deal. After you choose this option, your two crads will split into seperate hands, and you will be given a crad to go with each so yuo have your two hands ready. Then you hit and stand on your first hand, you move onto your second hand to do the same. Then the dealer will hit and stand their hand, and call. You can double your money, break even, or lose double on this venture. A Double Down is offered when you have a sum of 9, 10, or 11 off of the deal, and you feel your next card will give you a good enough score to beat the dealers total. You double your bet, and regardless of your total after the one card, you are forced to stand. The dealer still follows the regular rules. If you win, then double your money, but if you lose, then double your losses. Insurance is offerred whenever the house dealer is showing an Ace. You will be asked if you want insurance against their possible blackjack, and the price is half of your bet (ie you bet $100, your insurance will be $50). If you accepted, and they have a Blackjack, you lose your original bet, but you double your insurance, so you break even. If you bought insurance, and they do not have a Blackjack, you lose your insurance money, but continue the hand as a normal hand. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------Intriguing Situations------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) This section is going to review all of the possible offers you will get in this game, and the possible outcomes as a result. a) A mysterious lady will seek you out, and if you allow her to join you, you will both go to a bar. She will takl to you, and she will want to see you once more. You have the choice of saying yes you may, or no you may not. Whenever she reappears, she will say she has fallen completely in love with you, and she will ask you if you will be her partner for life. You can choose yes or no, and if it is a swindle, she will take some of your money, but if it is for real, the casino will donate $5000 of cold hard cash to your bankroll. This is by far the most complicated scenario you will encounter in the game. =========== Choice Tree =========== Will You Join Me? | | YES NO | | Will You Meet Me Again? End Of Scenario | | YES NO | | Will You Marry Me? End Of Scenario | | YES NO | | Monetary Result End Of Scenario b) A waitress spills a drink on your jacket, and she professes how clumsy she is! Do you allow her to take your jacket to be cleaned (choose yes or no). Either way, you get a news report on what this woman was/is up to. She will either be a theif (and she will take half of your bankroll from your wallet), or the casino will give you $500 as a way of apoligizing for the terrible mishap. c) An old man will ask you to the lounge (this will occur automatically), where he will then give you the inside track on some "hot stock" opportunities. You will then have the choice to pick how many shares you want to go in on at $200. Whether you decide to go in on this "can't miss" venture, you will be updated by the news on what occcurs. You will either sell your stock for double the original price, or your stock will crash, and you will be out your stock money (if you invested in this endeavour). d) A women will come up to you with a sob story about her poor, sick mother! She will then say that this item was the only thing her father left her, and she is seeking to sell it to you for $500. Regardless of your choice, you will again be updated as to her intentions. She may be con women who is selling stolen merchandise (if you bought the item, it will be confiscated by the police), or it will be a valuable antique, which will net you a cool $5000 return. e) Yet another lady will approach you, and this one asks you for a loan of $200. Why does she need money? Well, she lost so much gambling, she feels you will give her a hand-out! Whether or not you give her the money, the newscaster will again let you know if you missed out on some money ($1000 for her paying you a reward after she strikes it rich), or she turns out to be a con women just asking for money (you lose the $200). f) An older gentleman will come to you with an offer of a game of roulette. If you say yes, you get the choice between RED or BLACK, and then you get to set the amount you are going to bet on this one round of pitch and toss. If you win, you get double you money, and if you lose, well you lose your money. =========== Choice Tree =========== Do You Want To Play Roulette? | | YES NO | | RED or BLACK? End Of Scenario | Set Bet Amount | | Win Double Your Bet Lose Your Money g) Yet another lady (this one seems to be a rich blond woman), and she wants to a game of skill. In all the times I have got this situation, I have always been offered a game of high/low. How it works is you set your bet (max is all your cash), then your opponent will get a random number (from 1 to 80). You will then pick whether you think the next number will be higher or lower than hers. From their, you have the option of picking the next number (letting your bet ride) as you pick higher or lower than the last number, or you can quit. You can keep going as long as you like until you lose your bet. =========== Choice Tree =========== Do You Want To Play High/Low? | | YES NO | | Set Your Bet End Of Scenario | First Number Appears | | You Were Successful You Failed | | | You Can Pick Another Quit End Of Scenario | | (This Is A Big Loop Until You Lose/Quit) h) A young blackman approaches you, and you have the option of making change for him. Whether you help him or not, you are updated as to his true intentions. He is a thief most of the time (who takes half of your hard earned bankroll), but sometimes the Casino will give you $500 to apoligize for having someone come ask for change within their casino. i) A Sunglass wearing looking crazy man will approach you, compliment you on your incredible luck, decline playing any games with you, and he wants to buy you a drink. If you say yes, you go top the bar for a few rounds, if you say no, you still get to gamble on. He will either give you a ring, which you auction off for a profit, or your character will fall down the stairs and owe the hospital $200 in bills (the ring somehow disappears in all this). =========== Choice Tree =========== Do You Want A drink? | | YES NO | | Have A Ring End Of Scenario | Auction For A Profit | End Of Scenario j) A lady will approach you to go check out a show with her. If you say yes, you get treated to a "great show" (not really ^_^), or no will send her away. Either way you find out what her intentions were the now tried and true method of the news (that is how I get all my life updates anyway). She will either be a great date, and you will win the raffle ($10,000!), or she will be a thief who takes some of your hard earned cash (half of it to be exact)! k) A man in a tie will challenge you to a game of skill. If you accept, you will face him in one hand of blackjack! Regardless of the outcome, this game of chance only lasts one round, and then you go on back to whatever game you were gambling at previously. l) A worker at the casino will come up to you to tell you someone is downstairs waiting for you. If you choose yes, you will have to navigate some steep stairs. Regardless of your choice, you will once more be watching Las Vegas News to see what has occurred. If it is a bad result, your character (if you said yes) or another casino patron (if you said no) will fall down the stairs, and have to pay a "steep" hospital bill (man I crack myself up). If it is a positive result, your character (if you said yes) will recieve an inheritance of $5000, but if you said no (with a positive result), you get no money, but find out you missed it anyway. m) A worker at the casino will come up to you to tell you someone is on the phone for you. If you say yes, you will get to take the call (positive result for $500), or a chandelier will fall on you (negative result $200). If you refuse it, you will still get to find out the news from your favourite white-haired guysmiley newscaster. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Passwords----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) This will list a few passwords for those who want to have a little extra dough in their pocket when they start out. ========== $1,016,100 ========== G!8H S4!E 1GC! ?5 1T7K !G2? 8!FC ========== $2,537,400 ========== G!8H S4!E 1GC! ?5 1T7K 156T !!F3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Strategies------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) This section will give a few strategies for getting your bankroll to increase dramatically in a short amount of time. a) I usually start with the Jackpot-Bar Slot Machines. If they pay out (you get at least seven shots at them right at the start), you usually get anywhere from $1000 to $10000 to $20000 all the way to $50000! A great way to get your bankroll rolling, so to speak. b) Roullete, Slot Machines and Keno are the three games that really rely upon more luck than the other games. Play these conservatively, and try to avoid betting too much on these games (as they are too embroiled in luck to be good investments, although Slots are a little better than the other two since they are pretty cheap). c) Blackjack can be your best game to play, if you know the rules, and how certain moves at certain times are the best. Be sure to read up the rules of Blackjack listed earlier on this FAQ in the Games And Rules Section. d) Learn which Intriguing Situations are worthwhile, safer endeavours, and which are too high risk to be smart choices. The easiest way to figure this out is to check on what the negative result of an action will be (such as having half of your bankroll stolen, especially later on when your money count is huge). e) There is one sure fire way to make money in this game, and it is in the seemingly random game of roullete. You choose a pay-off method that is 2:1, and you bet a low amount. If you win, bet the same amount again, but if you lost, double your previous bet. Keep doubling till you win, then start over once more at your original starting bet increment. This is a very slow method of making money, but it works in this game, just as it will work in real life (real casino's usually having betting minimums and maximums to screw with this however). You will always make your money back, and then a little extra, provided your losing streaks do not out do your bankroll. f) In Blackjack, if you get two of the same cards that are 10, J, Q, K, A you should split them because they have a high chance (especially the Aces), of becoming Blackjacks, or two sets of high scores like 20. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Final Word------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) As is the usual, this walkthrough is copyright property of Brian P. A fun game, but only if you can get past the problems of it being an old NES game, a gambling game (which are not well recieved), and the poor design of some of the games. I like it, and thusly I wrote this guide in hopes it might educate others on how to play more efficiently.
