Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= World Boxing is an interesting first-person boxing game for the Famicom. It is relatively short, featuring eight opponents that you must face in your quest to become the heavy-weight champion of the world. The controls and the general layout of the gameplay may take a bit of getting used to; in fact, I recommend you have a turbo controller when playing this, especially if you happen to not be very good at the game! I personally did not think this was one of the better boxing games around, but even for just the experience, check this out if you wish. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Control Pad: Move cursor on some menu screens, attack (Left/Right for hooks, Up/Down for low/high jabs) Start: Pause/resume game, make selection on menu screens Select: Switch options on title screen Control Pad + A: Guard your face Control Pad + B: Body attack ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ======== Gameplay ======== When you start off, you can pick from Single Play (one-player mode) or V.S Play (two-player mode). You will then go to a screen where you can either begin the game or enter a numeric password to continue a previous game. After you decide on the game mode, you will be able to pick your fighter. There are three to choose from, one from each major nation represented (America - ABA, Canada - CBA, and Japan - JBA). There is no discernable difference between them, so choose whatever nation you like best. If you use Up/Down on the Control Pad, you can pick if you are right (top) or left- handed (bottom). In the top right area, you will see your current ranking in each of the three nations. For the nation you picked, you will initially be ranked #3, and unranked in the others. The goal is to be #1 in all three areas, hence eight matches in the game. You can also decide on what opponent you will face next, so if you want to face a CBA opponent instead of your current JBA/ABA one, you can do that. That way, if you want to raise your rank in one nation first, you will be able to do it. In an actual match, the screen will be split in two. Your view will be the top, and your opponent's view will be the bottom. That way, you can see what your opponent is about to do by watching the bottom screen, and act accordingly. In the middle area, you will see a meter that gradually fills as you are inactive. The more it is filled, the harder your punch will be when it connects. Of course, if you get hit, your meter will be emptied, and vice versa. The objective is to deplete the opponent's energy bar. If your energy bar is empty, you will be knocked to the floor and have 10 seconds to get up before losing the match. To get up, you must press A repeatedly to fill the meter (a turbo controller is essential here, trust me). Once you get up after being knocked down, your energy bar will be partially restored, but obviously with less energy than you had when starting the match. If you get knocked down three times, you will lose by KO; the same goes for your opponent. After each match, you will receive a password in case you wish to continue the tournament at a later time. The passwords are quite lengthy, so be sure to write them down! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5. Secrets/Tips and Tricks -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ========== Debug Mode ========== To access Debug Mode, hold A + B on both controllers and press the Reset button. Release the buttons, then when you get to the title screen, press A + B + Start on Controller 1. If done correctly, you will enter the Debug Mode, where you can tweak the game settings, hear the sound test, etc. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 6.
