Who would actually read it?! ======================================================================= 2) About this FAQ ======================================================================= This FAQ was completed at 6:13 PM on February 3rd, 2002. I wrote this FAQ because I like the wrestling games for the Nintendo and this one had no FAQs whatsoever except for the ubiquitous "WWF Character Guide" by Gruel. So, naturally, I took it upon myself to make a guide. And this was the #31 most-requested guide for the NES! For shame people! Work! This is version 1.00 of this guide. There have been no updates. ======================================================================= 3) General Movelist ======================================================================= All of the wrestlers in this game, just like its predecessor Steel Cage Challenge, use the same movelist. The movelist is as follows: Standing moves: Directional Pad: Move left/right/up/down, exit ring, climb turnbuckle B: Kick A: Punch Hold Directional Pad Left/Right and A: Run Move Close To Opponent: Grapple While Running: B: Dropkick A: Stop Running Opponent Running: A: Big Elbow While Grappling: B: Body Slam Direction + B: Body Slam A: Headbutt Down + A: Headbutt Left/Right + A: Hip Toss Up + A: Vertical Suplex With Opponent Down: B: Stomp A: Elbow Drop Hold Directional Pad Left/Right and A: Pin From Top Rope: B: Climb Down A: Missile Dropkick ======================================================================= 4) General Strategy ======================================================================= First off, the most important thing is to pick a character whose style you're comfortable with. There are three statistics: Speed, Strength, and Stamina. I personally find Speed to be the most important, as it enables you to avoid top-rope and running attacks that can really screw you up if they connect. My best character is Mr. Perfect, but really they all add up to be about the same, as everyone has between fourteen and sixteen stat points. The best moves in the game are the dropkicks. If they connect, they floor the opponent, enabling you to get some stomps in on them to add even more damage. It's far less risky than a grapple. If you're behind, you should try to avoid being knocked down, since the less life you have left, the harder it is to get up. On the converse, if you're winning, you can afford to grapple and take chances toe-to- toe. The game counts the number of times you hit the buttons from the time you hit the ground. Once you've hit them enough times (determined by your life total), your character will get up. This same count is used to determine a pin being broken. So if you knock someone down and want a pin, go for it IMMEDIATELY. If your life total is 0, the game will not register your button mashes when you hit the ground. You are dead. The only move that can NOT knock someone down under any circumstances is the headbutt. ======================================================================= 5) Character Info ======================================================================= Bret "The Hitman" Hart Speed: |||||| Strength: |||| Stamina: |||||| A fast character who can take the few hits he gets. The Excellence Of Execution indeed. --- "The Narcissist" Lex Luger Speed: ||| Strength: ||||||| Stamina: ||||| This man is a TANK. He can't move, but he can demolish people with relatively few hits. --- Shawn Michaels: Speed: |||||| Strength: ||| Stamina: |||||| Sadly, there's no reason to use the good ol' Heartbreak Kid. He has the exact same stats as Bret Hart but without a point of strength. --- "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig Speed: |||||| Strength: |||| Stamina: ||||| He's perfect. Good all around distribution. Actually, no... he has the same stats as Bret Hart except missing one Stamina point. Hart is pretty much the man in this game. --- Razor Ramon Speed: ||||||| Strength: ||||| Stamina: ||| A hit-and-run type. He's the fastest in the game but goes down like he was shot if they get a lucky hit in. Hey yo. --- "Macho Man" Randy Savage Speed: ||||| Strength: |||| Stamina: ||||||| Has a sixteen-point distribution just like the Hitman. Difference is, this fella sacrificed a speed point for Stamina. You should most likely play as him more often than not. --- Yokozuna Speed: ||| Strength: ||||||| Stamina: |||| Like Lex Luger but worse. Too bad, too, because he's easily one of the coolest characters in the game. --- Hulk Hogan Speed: |||| Strength: ||||||| Stamina: ||||| Another sixteen-point monster. Hogan pretty much dominates, nothing else to say about that. --- Undertaker Speed: |||| Strength: |||||| Stamina: |||||| Sixteen points. Best theme music in the game. Coolest hat, too. Play as the Undertaker if you're not already Mach, Hart, or Hulk. --- Bam Bam Bigelow Speed: |||| Strength: |||||| Stamina: |||| Another ouch. Merely 14 points, and just like the Undertaker except incapable of taking as much damage. --- "You" Speed: variable Strength: variable Stamina: variable Split 15 points any way you'd like, and you get this guy. Lots of choices! ======================================================================= 6) FAQs ======================================================================= Q1) HELP ME I STOPPED MOVING AND I'M LAYING ON THE FLOOR AND HE PINNED ME AH NOOOO!O!!!!O11!~!! A1) You ran out of life. You're going to lose. Unlike WWFW:SCC, there is NO select-button trick to gain power back. Your meter is black and it's going to be that way until you lose. Q2) Hey! You listed the top-rope move as "Missile Dropkick" but it is clearly a flying elbow drop. A2) No. Surely, you can do the move onto a fallen opponent, and it will even do damage, but it also leaves you knocked out, making it a completely worthless move to do. You can't pin from it, and it hurts you far more than it hurts them. So instead I call the move by its legitimate usage. Q3) How do I tag out in tag-team matchups? A3) You get by your side of the ring, and hit the select button. Your opponent will even kindly wait for you as your partner leaps onto the apron and tags in. Nice fella. Q4) I'm getting the heck beaten out of me via running dropkicks. How do I counter this? A4) Hit the A button when the opponent is about to hit you. If timed correctly, it will push the opponent back and leave you unscathed. Q5) Why should I ever do anything except dropkicks and Missile Dropkicks? A5) Each move has a disadvantage. A running dropkick can be countered which may leave you open to attack. And if you miss a Missile Dropkick, you will be knocked out for long enough to take a LOT of stomp damage. Q6) Elbow drop: Useful or not? A6) Not useful in the least. It takes longer to execute than the stomp, misses more often, and does the exact same damage. Leave it alone, I say. Good luck to you guys.
