BBPW v1.01 - last updated 1.5.01 ________________________________________________________________ Big Bang Pro Wrestling FAQ/Move List ________________________________________________________________ >>>Contents I. Basic Controls II. Modes of Play III. Hidden Bits IV. Wrestler Moves V. Credits ================================================================ >>>I. Basic Controls Big Bang Pro Wrestling plays similar to Human's Fire Pro series in that it is centered around a timing-based grappling system. When two wrestlers make contact, a grapple is automatically initiated. As soon as the characters lock together, a timed command is required. Which ever button/D-pad combo you choose will result in a different move being made. This should all be rather obvious to experienced players of the Fire Pro series and other sprite-based wrestling titles (a dying breed of game), but you'd be surprised at some of the questions people have asked... There are quite a few commands mapped onto the small number of buttons available. Here's a rundown of the basic moves available to all characters in the game. Appeal *Or Tuant, as they say in America. Press the B button and enjoy the display. Especially in the case of Kei. Run *Press B + Left or Right on the D-pad and watch 'em go. Exit/Enter Ring *Press B + the direction of the ropes to leave/enter the ring at will. Climb Turnbuckle *Go to the corner posts at the top of the screen (the bottom posts cannot be climbed, oddly) and press B + the appropriate Diagonal towards the post. Throw Opponent From Turnbuckle *Do just as you would to climb the post, but use A instead of B. You'll grab the other wrestler and toss them to the ground. Grab a Chair *Go to the outside and head for the crowd barricade. Press B + Up to pull a Chair from the audience. Once you've got it, it will replace your normal A button striking moves. Drop the chair at will by pressing B. To pick it up again, press A + Down. You can leave it on the mat and bomb people onto it, but it won't do any extra damage. ;) Only one chair can be in play at a time, so no, you can't have any chair duels. Irish Whip *Near the center of the ring, initiate a front or rear grapple and press B + Left or Right on the D-pad. Finishers *Each wrestler has one Finishing move that can be initiated from the front or back. These aren't done from a grappling position though. When your name is flashing red, press A + B in a standing position. Your character will launch a setup strike and then it's on to the big move. Keep in mind the name "Finisher" isn't to be taken literally. These moves won't stop your opponent cold. You must wear them down before you can really expect a pin or submission. Throw Opponent to Floor *With your back against to the ropes, grapple your opponent and press B + the direction to the ropes. Pin Attempt (when downed) *Press B to make a pinfall attempt. Each character has a different style of fall technique. Pick Up Opponent (when downed) *Press B + Up on the D-pad to lift the enemy from the mat. They'll be dazed for a moment afterwards. Roll Opponent Over (when downed) *Press B + Down on the D-pad to roll your opponent onto their stomach or back. That's about all for the technical stuff. In the case of pinfall and submission escapes, it's best to simply hammer on all the buttons (well, not Power, silly. Unless you REALLY want to escape defeat...) and the D-pad. Generally it does the trick. ================================================================ >>>II. Modes of Play Modes: Exhibition - Single match. Tournament - An elimination tourny. Up to 8 brackets. IEW Champion - The 'Champion's Road' to the IEW title. VS. - Dust off the Link Cable. Rules: In Exhibition, Tournament and VS. modes you can choose bewteen 4 types of matches. "Normal" Normal match. Count Out is optional. Wins can be made by Pinfall, Submission, Count Out, or DQ. If you use a chair, you'll be DQed quickly. If the Ref is knocked down during the match, you can sneak in a few chair shots before he wakes up. "No Rule" No Rules Deathmatch. Count Out is off, and there is no DQ. So now you can feel free to beat the opponent silly with a chair. "Coffin" Casket Deathmatch. This is soooo simplistic. Wins are only made by forcing the other wrestler into the coffin beside the ring, which is as simple as throwing them to the outside. "Reward" Money Scramble Deathmatch. This is rather cool. Just like a Ladder Match, you win by making it to the top to grab your prize. A bag of cash in this case. Climb the pole by pressing B + Up. Wrestlers can be knocked off the pole at low levels by using normal strikes. Higher up, it's a matter of climbing and pulling the other man down. To shake off a rival, hammer the D-pad and buttons. Likewise when trying to bring someone down using the same tactic. ================================================================ >>>III. Hidden Bits Josef & Kei: Two secret characters are available in BBPW. Both apparently are unlocked by playing the IEW Championship. Josef Stile is found by winning the IEW Heavyweight Title with any character. Kei I have yet to unlock. Common sense leads one to believe she is found by winning the IEW Championship with all the characters, or by winning without losing. Easy guesses. So far I have yet to test either of my theories. Mega Shock Ring Mat: This is rather strange. By setting your system to Japanese mode, a new ring mat (the original NEO*GEO logo) becomes available in addition to the IEW crest and the Neo Geo Pocket "P" logo. You also get the cool firey Katakana on the title screen as well, so I always play in Nihongo. ================================================================ >>>IV. Wrestler Moves In this section I've listed (apparently) all the moves available to each character. There seem to be no suicide dives to the floor, sadly. If you miraculously find any, let me know. I've used the names SNK provided whenever possible, i.e., "Brian Slam", "Wild Elbow", etc. All of the finishers are named with SNK's gimmick name (WILD BOTTOM!! ^_^) in quotes and the actual name in paren. For all the other moves, I tried to use actual Japanese names or references as much as possible. Lastly, all the abbreviations should be pretty obvious, except for the "B,A" running moves. I shortened that just to save space. What that means is "A while running". Well, that should cover it. Onward.... >>>BRIAN McDONALD Striking: -Standing * A - Punch * A+ - Short Lariat -Running * B - Lariat * A - Spear Tackle -------------------------------- Grappling: -Front * A - Bodyslam * A+L/R - Punch Rush * A+U - Vertical Suplex * A+D - Brian Slam (P) -Back * A - Sleeper Hold (S) * A+L/R - Leg Lift Backdrop -Back Reversal * A+ - Ace Crusher -------------------------------- Turnbuckle: -Opponent Down * A - Elbow Drop -Opponent Standing * A - Diving Body Attack -------------------------------- Opponent Prone: -Face Up * A - Sleeper Hold (S) * B,A - Elbow Drop -Face Down * A - Stomping * B,A - Elbow Drop -------------------------------- Irish Whip Counter: * A - Knife Chop * B - Drop to Mat -------------------------------- Finisher: * A+B - "Argentine Driver" (Burning Hammer) =============================================================== >>>MACEY THE ORIENTAL Note: In the instructions, he is called "Mashii The Oriental" as a nod to The Great Kabuki, The Great Muta, etc - both "Oriental-style" or "Mysterious-style" wrestlers. "Macey" is simply a poor translation of the Katakana by SNK Int.
