Version History * ******************************************************* Version 1.76 - Got a suggestion and made a slight edit to the first Puni Brothers boss battle (the strategy is the same, but I made a note of when you can fight them). Version 1.75 - Alright, it's finally complete. All bosses have a general strategy for them and with that, my work is done here. Unless something is to happen or new information is revealed, this is pretty much the last update. To everyone that's been reading this or using it to get through the game, I thank you for taking the time out to use my Bestiary. Version 1.70 - Oops, I forgot to list the general tips section that I added as well. Also, I've added more boss strategies up to Chapter 9 -- just a little bit more before I'm done. Don't fret; my next Bestiary will be for another NIS title: Mana-Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis. Search codes will probably come with the next update, but I'm not sure how to implement them. If you know how, send me a message. Version 1.65 - An update so good, the version increased by 10! With this update, you get: a better table of contents, an additional thank you, boss strategies up to Chapter 7, as well as a better-looking Detailed Monster List. Also, I'm still deliberating on the whole chart thing; at the very least, I might be able to put exp tables down. If you want to see a table, then you know where to send that e-mail. Version 1.55 - Added the first Puni Brothers fight strategy to Chapter 2, as well as making strategies up to Chapter 5. Also, the last version that I had up said "1.4", which made it look weird overall. Finally, I fixed a couple of minor errors. Version 1.51 - Started to make boss strategies for the bosses in the game. Made it all the way up to Chapter 3 and plan to continue. Also got rid of the "Detailed Listing of Monsters & Bosses" section, since for the time being, it's unnecessary. Finally, added another user who gave me some helpful advice regarding the Ice Sprite battle. Version 1.5 - Found that I was missing a monster from the previous version, the Instant Brownie. It has been added to the bestiary and a "Boss Strategy" section, where I will give a basic strategy on how to take down the many bosses that you come across in this game. If you have an awesome strategy for a particular boss, send it my way via e-mail and whether or not you would like to be given credit. Version 1.4 - Finally finished 'The Last Hero' quest, as well as adding the *Mini Puni* to the Bestiary. Also fixed up an error regarding the Golden Puni -- two different stats were called DEF. In addition, a number of other things were fixed, such as spacing and mission locations for some monsters. Finally, a small change to my e-mail address was made. Version 1.3 - Added a few more monsters and fixed some errors here and there. Version 1.0 - First version. Most of the monsters were added in this version. ******************************************************* * II. Introduction * ******************************************************* Hello and welcome to my Atelier Iris 3 bestiary. In this guide, you'll find the locations of each monster and their traits. I made this guide for three main reasons: -To keep you from wasting time scrolling slowly through the Monster List (you would think that three games in, they would've fixed this minor annoyance) -By using this, you can somewhat prepare ahead of time by bringing the right weapons to make your journey through each Alterworld as easy as possible -And finally, this was made since aside from using that slow-scrolling Monster List, there's no information available elsewhere. With that said, let's get started. ******************************************************* * IIa. General Tips * ******************************************************* Listed here are tips that should (or will) make your travels easier while you play Atelier Iris 3. As of this writing, this is my 2nd time through the game and some of the things that I'm doing are making things easier for me. Even though these tips are here, you may have developed your own style to play and you're free to use that, if you wish. For starters, when you get to an Alterworld or are allowed to travel inside of a new one, it's best to explore. By exploring, you get a general feel of where to go and also, there's a good chance to discover new weapons, treasures and most valuable of all, alchemy recipes. While exploring is sometimes lengthy, it pays for itself when you're able to move about in an Alterworld without having to resort to the map. Regarding Alchemy Recipes: Outside of equipment, it's the only way to make Iris stronger. To that end, I suggest crafting new items whenever you get the chance, since each new alchemy creation fills up the Alchemy Gauge and every star that you earn is an increase in Iris' Magic Attack and Magic Defense. Also, for those trying to powerlevel, do note that as you get stronger, the exp that monsters give starts to drop. I suggest keeping the time spent grinding down to a minimum. The best approach is to go to the stronger areas of the game, such as Grimoire's basement and Ishtar for that purpose. While we're talking about battling, I find it very helpful to do Combat Quests since most of them are repeatable and it gives you a good source of income early on in the game. Once you have enough income, you're free to do whatever you want, but do spend carefully. I find it useful to buy things that can be used in Alchemy in groups of 10. That way, you never really run out of what you need. Finally, be sure to use caution when dealing with the more rare items (Alberich comes to mind). It helps to have a clear idea of what you're going to use your items for before you start creating in the Workshop. To make the "broken" combo referenced to with in the boss strategies, here's how it's done: First, you make Skimir's Staff with the "Blessed Weapon" Property. Then you take your new Skimir's Staff and make a Hermes Staff with it. I hope that these simple tips have been helpful for you and if you have any tips that are useful, let me know. ******************************************************* * III. List of Monsters/Checklist * ******************************************************* Below is each monster listed in the order that they appear in the Monster List in the Reference Section. In addition, you can use this as a checklist to see what monsters you have/haven't encountered yet. Mini Puni Puni Red Puni Heal Puni Zombie Puni Golden Puni Dark Puni Giant Puni Kobold Kobold Mage Kobold Fighter Kobold Priest Kobold Guard Kobold Chieftain Kobold Elite Kobold Ninja Lizard Lizard Warrior Lizard Shaman Lizard Lord Lizard Wizard Dragonewt Fungo Caterpillar Living Armor Bear Owlbear Jagged Bear Nightwalker Harpy Shadowgirl Darkwing Tiger Leopard Panther Jagged Tiger Airplant Morning Glory Trumpet Lily Moon Flower Leaf Sprite Jewel Sprite Sword Sprite Dryad Orb Clay Puppet Pot Spirit Stone Puppet Kettle Spirit Kamikaze Doll Puni Rider Kamikaze Doll G Bird Rider Jin Rider Mad Brownie Instant Brownie Golden Pig Sandfish Sand Dragon Sword Geist Shield Geist Death Knight Vorpal Sword Stone Soldier Steelarmor Soldier Obsidian Soldier Alchemic Soldier Admantium Soldier Stone Beast Steelarmor Beast Obsidian Beast Alchemic Beast Dragon Zombie Fran Pfeil Necrohydra Dragonia Shadow Legion Hell Legion Power Marquis Dominion Elder Duke Ancients ******************************************************* * IIIa. List of Bosses/Checklist * ******************************************************* You may not consider some of these bosses, but I consider them to be because of one main reason: Nell's Trick or Treat does not work on these monsters. Also, some of the monsters look like regular monsters, but with a different color. I've made note of this when applicable. In addition, these monsters are listed in the same order as they appear in the Monster List in the Reference Section. Puni Taro Puni Jiro Puni Kichi Kobold Magician Fallen Lord Harpy (Note: This one has green wings, while the normal one has red wings). Lizard Thief Echo Grove Amber Petit Kobold Giant Golden Pig King of Scales Wandering Fungo Fugitive Kobold Scarlet Undark Deholy Aladdin Pot Emperor of Hades (a black Dark Puni) Hells' Fran Pfeil (looks like a red and black Fran Pfeil) Kobold Kid Puni Mama Platinum Puni Stone Emperor (navy blue) Guardian (looks like an Alchemic Soldier) Servant (looks like Shadow Stalker, but with blue clothing) The Elder The Elder (dragon form) Ice Sprite Ice Element Musica Cancion Magus Rockwell Fatebringer Living Sword Mirage Shadow Stalker Alvero (1st encounter) Alvero (2nd encounter) Alvero (3rd encounter) Crowley Yula Yula (2nd encounter) Stone Emperor Stone Emperor (looks like the first, but is red instead of gray) Alkane Uroborus Ash Ash (Azoth form) Shadow (looks like a Panther, but is not considered a Beast-type) Nell *Mini Puni* ******************************************************* * IV. Detailed Listing * ******************************************************* Here, you will find a more detailed listing of each monster. This includes their Traits and the caption that comes with each one. I've decided to divide them by class, as indicated by their icon (Puni, Beast, Dragon, etc..) All monster entries will appear in this format: Name of Class, along with a small description (if applicable) Name of Monster In-Game Description Where it is found or what quest it shows up in, shown in quotation marks Trait(s) - This will show the monsters strengths (such as resistant to special attacks or immune to poison) and their weaknesses (such as weak against fire or weak against physical attacks). Here are the icons, in order: -Fist Icon: represents physical attacks -EX Icon: represents special attacks -Staff Icon: represents Magical Attacks -Fire -Ice -Lightning -Poison If there is one shield icon on one of the traits above, it means that the monster is resistant to those types of attacks (damage will be shown in blue) If there is two shields on one of the traits, then the monster is Immune to that kind of attack (i.e. it will not work, unless it's a physical attack, in which case, the damage will be blue). If an X is at the bottom of one of the traits, then the monster is weak against that trait (damage will be displayed in red). This only applies to elemental attacks. Not all weaknesses are element based. Throughout the game, there are a number of weapons that can be made to specifically target the class of a monster. For example, Nell's Punislayer may seem weak, but it does extra damage to all Puni Monsters. Another example is Edge's Wind Kunai. It does extra damage to all beast monsters. Stats, in the following order (if applicable): -Hit Points (HP), Experience Points (EXP), Blades Points (BP), Attack (ATK) Defense (DEF), Magic Attack (MATK), Magic Defense (MDEF), Speed (SPD) Item Drop Trick or Treat (henceforth known as ToT); what the monster will give you when you use Nell's Trick or Treat on it. Here is a sample one, to help you understand: PUNI CLASS: This is indicated by the small blue Puni icon. Mini Puni -A little Puni. Just a newborn, so it's really, really soft. Found In: Valtessa, Posporia Stats: 58 HP, 4 EXP, 1 BP, 40 ATK, 16 DEF, 45 MATK, 16 MDEF, 17 SPD Traits:Puni (obviously), Resistant to poison, Weak against Fire Item Dropped: Puniball ToT: Puni Gummy Also of note, this guide is pretty much complete, and additionally, all of these monsters won't be available to you from the start of the adventure, so there's no need to worry about running into a really strong monster from the outset. Regarding the stats of monsters: Unfortunately, as of this time, there is not a complete list of monster stats. Perhaps, as time passes by, more info about these particular stats will be revealed for all monsters. Finally, one last pointer. 'Evil' will refer to the icon with the purple eyes and mouth, while 'Undead' will be the thin, gray face. ******************************************************* * IVa. Boss Strategies * ******************************************************* In this section, I will list boss strategies for the various enemies that you come across in Atelier Iris 3. All of these are strategies that I've used, so everything should be fine. I realize that everyone plays differently, so you can use the guide as a platform and plan accordingly, but there are times when there's only one real strategy. This applies mostly towards optional bosses. The format is as follows: The Chapter (e.g. Chapter 1 Bosses) The name of the boss with information (e.g. Platinum Puni) -Next to the boss may be a number preceded by an x (e.g. x2) to show that there is more than one Recommended Blades Strategy Generally, if a specific weapon is to be used, it will be mentioned with a note preceding the actual strategy itself. If a particular monster quest isn't appearing for you, try to get some of the other quests out of the way, such as monster hunt quests or story quests, when applicable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Va. Chapter 1 Bosses: Platinum Puni -A platinum Puni, more valuable than gold. Extremely wealthy. Found In: "Researcher's Request" Stats: N/A Trait: Puni, Immune to Magical Attacks, Weak against Fire Item Drop: None ToT: None At this point in the game, your characters aren't very strong. The good thing is that the damage done to it in the cutscene carries over into the actual battle. For this battle, we'll be focusing on the Puni's weakness to Fire attacks, since Iris uses Magic attacks and the Puni is resistant to it. Attack with Iris regardless to boost up the skill gauge and Burst Meter. If your skill gauge is high enough, just use Pyre Bunker with Edge to get into Burst Mode, which is a major damage booster. Once in Burst Mode, another scene will happen, explaining the basics of Burst Chain Mode. It should take another two Pyre Bunker attacks to finish off the Puni at this point. If you happen to suffer a bit too much damage, use a Spinacherb. Alvero (1st encounter) -A sad soul who challenged a fight and lost. Found In: "The Book of Hope" (Chapter 1 Mission) Stats: 4248 HP, 32 EXP, 60 BP, 242 ATK, 60 DEF, 53 MATK, 12 MDEF, 73 SPD Trait: None Item Drop: None ToT: None Here we are, your first real boss battle. Don't worry, you don't fight him three times in a row. Alvero has a few attacks. The first is Twin Blade, which is basically a mirror version of Edge's Windmill, that does about 20 damage or so and attacks one of your party members at random. The second is just a regular attack, which does around 20 damage as well. His third attack is Thunder Blade, which is a Lightning element attack that can hit for around 30 - 40 damage. Needless to say, you have to be careful in this one. As for an actual strategy, unlike the Platinum Puni encounter, Iris will be able to do decent damage in this battle. To boost up the Burst Gauge, she should use Elemental Conversion, while Edge can use Windmill (if you have it) or Pyre Bunker if you don't to get into Burst Mode so you can dish out the pain. Just make sure to not let your HP fall below 40 and you'll be fine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vb. Chapter 2 Bosses: Puni Mama, Red Puni and Puni Puni Mama -Supposedly, the mother of all Puni. But, only they know. Found In: "Combat Exam" Stats: 3192 HP, 32 EXP, 55 BP, 125 ATK, 34 DEF, 125 MATK, 34 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Red Puni -A red fervent soul who is more aggressive than a normal Puni. Found In: Valtessa, Posporia Stats: 143 HP, 22 EXP, 3 BP, 120 ATK, 38 DEF, 150 MATK, 43 MDF, 20 SPD Traits: Puni, Resistant to Poison, Weak against Fire Item Dropped: Canone Rock ToT: Puni Gummy Puni -A jiggly, light blue organism. Very liquidy, and very juicy. Found In: Valtessa, Posporia Stats: 71 HP, 10 EXP, 1 BP, 40 ATK, 20 DEF, 50 MATK, 18 MDEF, 42 SPD Traits: Puni, Resistant to poison, Weak against Fire Item Dropped: Puniball ToT: Puni Gummy Not much of a boss battle, really. To start, use Mana Storm with Iris to make quick work of the Punis and Red Punis. Then with Edge, use either Windmill or Pyre Bunker to get the Burst Gauge up and Elemental Conversion with Iris. Even though this is a Puni, it is not weak against Fire. Once in Burst Mode, the battle will be over with in no time at all. Kobold Magician -The charismatic sorcerer Kobold with powerful magic. Found In: "Furry Magician" Stats: 2574 HP, 51 EXP, 78 BP, 75 ATK, 24 DEF, 225 MATK, 83 MDEF, 46 SPD Trait: Beast Item Drop: None ToT: None The Kobold Magician has a few tricks up its sleeve. The first is Ice Storm, which is nothing more than a basic Ice Attack, hitting for around 15 damage. The next is Mind Bomb which comes in at a serious 40 damage or so and can cause sleep. Third is Plasma Ray, a six hit attack that does about 3 - 4 damage per hit. For the strategy, use Windmill to bring the Burst Gauge up. If you have one equipped on Iris, use the Healing Ankh's Healing ability to keep your party healthy. Once in Burst Mode, a few attacks and it should fall easily. Alternatively, if you completed the "Echoes of the Castle" mission beforehand, you'll have Plua and with some wandering around the Fairy territory, you may have picked up the Wind Slicer, which hits five times and does extra damage to Beast types. You can use this to your advantage, attacking the Kobold without stopping. Using Blink Attack in Burst Mode should do quite a bit of damage, taking him down quickly. If you don't, Plua comes with a Kunai which should be more than enough. Stay healthy and keep at it. The Elder -The monster that took over the Darkness Mana. Found In: "Echoes of the Castle" Stats: 2166 HP, 32 EXP, 55 BP, 120 ATK, 84 DEF, 200 MATK, 95 MDEF, 71 SPD Trait: Evil, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None This boss has a few attacks, most of which you've seen before, especially if you've just finished the "Furry Magician" mission. These include Flame Gaze and Mind Bomb. You know, these bosses should really get new attacks... As far as a strategy goes, you know the drill. Get into Burst Mode and use your strongest attacks to take her down quickly. However, there's more to this battle than it seems... The Elder (2nd form) -The Elder's true form. It has the skills of a dragon. Found In: "Echoes of the Castle" Stats: 4621 HP, 51 EXP, 72 BP, 219 ATK, 82 DEF, 163 MATK, 62 MDEF, 48 SPD Trait: Dragon, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None After the small cutscene, you'll be fighting for real this time. Fans of the Atelier Iris series (or those who've played the 2nd one) will instantly recognize what this dragon looks like. The dragon is stronger than its first form and has some new attacks and has over 4000 HP to boot! The first is Flare Cannon, which hits both party members for about 30 damage or so. The next is Hell Wave, which also hits both party members for the same amount. Also, this dragon can summon Meteor, an attack that appears in the turn bar above, hitting for around 20 to 25 points of damage. Needless to say, staying healthy will be quite the matter this battle. As for a strategy, you'll want to alternate between attacking and healing, so that your party can make it through. In the event that one of your party members fall, use a Nectar on him/her to bring them back into the fray. Once in Burst Mode, he'll fall just like all of the rest. Congratulations, you now have Plua! Author's Note: Now that you have your first Mana, most (if not all) of the strategies listed from here on will take note of this fact. Yula -Nell's big sister. Her weapon of choice is a ginormous mace. Found In: "Broken Ties" (Chapter 2 Mission) Stats: 4112 HP, 23 EXP, 75 BP, 188 ATK, 83 DEF, 150 MATK, 47 MDEF, 90 SPD Trait: Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Nell -A girl who uses a rapier. She challenged us to a quest. Found In: "Broken Ties" (Chapter 2 Mission) Stats: 3078 HP, 19 EXP, 55 BP, 125 ATK, 34 DEF, 125 MATK, 34 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Two against two this time. Together, these sisters are pretty deadly if you're not careful. Yula has a regular attack, which doesn't hit for much and an attack called Mowdown which hits both members of your party around eight times for 2-3 damage per hit. Yula also has the Yula Strike, which is a sealing timed attack that hits for close to 40 damage. Nell has Armor Piercing, which does around 20 damage or so. She also has Quick Panther, an attack that hits four times for relatively little damage per hit. Finally, Nell has a regular three hit attack, doing 4 - 6 damage each hit. For this battle, you'll want to take out the weaker of the two, which just happens to be Nell. Use Elemental Conversion with Iris and if you have Plua equipped to Edge, just attack. Once in Burst Mode, you can use Blink Attack to finish off Nell. It will probably take two Burst Modes to finish off Nell. Now that's she's out of the way, focus your attacks on Yula and keep your attacks focused on her. At this point, she will most likely start to use Yula Strike repeatedly. Remain calm and don't worry; she'll probably be defeated before it becomes a problem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vc. Chapter 3 Bosses: Kobold Mage -A magic-using Kobold. It has a moustache, but it's a girl. Found In: Posporia Stats: 210 HP, 32 EXP, 4 BP, 123 ATK, 29 DEF, 189 MATK, 46 MDEF, 32 SPD Traits: Beast Item Drop: Beast Fang ToT: Puppy Paw Bonbon Kobold Fighter -A smart Kobold that can use weapons. He knows no limits. Found In: "Monster Puppeteer" first, Posporia afterwards Stats: 1305 HP, 84 EXP, 5 BP, 216 ATK, 58 DEF, 168 MATK, 44 MDEF, 39 SPD Traits: Beast Item Drop: Tufts ToT: Puppy Paw Bonbon Kobold Priest -A Kobold with a pointy hat, proof that he's good in magic. Found In: Posporia Stats: 171 HP, 27 EXP, 3 BP, 105 ATK, 29 DEF, 162 MATK, 46 MDEF, 31 SPD Traits: Beast Item Drop: Beast Fang ToT: Puppy Paw Bonbon What a way to start off Chapter 3, I'd say. At any rate, this is Nell's first boss battle, which is pretty much easy. If you've been doing Monster Hunt quests for the guild, then you should already be accustomed to the Kobold Mage and Kobold Priest, so I won't bother to list their attacks here. On the other hand, the Kobold Fighter is a new one. He has an attack called Bite, which hits for about 20 damage or so and a regular attack which hits for around 30 damage. Take out the Kobold Mage and Priest first and then focus your attacks on the Fighter. His HP may look high, but you've faced stronger before him. Keep it up and you'll be done in no time. A little bit later... Ice Sprite -A Sprite with the Water Mana's power. It'll freeze you dry. Found In: "Monster Puppeteer" Stats: 6218 HP, 70 EXP, 89 BP, 81 ATK, 36 DEF, 321 MATK, 151 MDEF, 73 SPD Trait: Immune to EX Attacks and Ice, Weak against Fire Item Drop: None ToT: None Ice Element -Icicles with individual wills, summoned by the Ice Sprite. Found In: "Monster Puppeteer" Stats: 2432 HP, 23 EXP, 63 BP, 63 ATK, 60 DEF, 188 MATK, 60 MDEF, 24 SPD Trait: Immune to Ice, Weak against Fire Item Drop: None ToT: None A few things to note before the battle begins. Firstly, the Ice Sprite and her Ice Elements are resistant to Ice, so if you created and equipped Iris with the Gearshaft, she won't be able to do much damage in this battle, if you use her as an attacker, that is. Another thing to note is that Edge's Normal Blades will come in very handy here, since all of the monsters are weak to Fire. Also, as VeghEster pointed out to me, you can find a pretty useful Wand for Iris in the Forest Depths known as Caduceus, which hits 4 times, giving you a pretty devastating attack force. Here we go, a real boss battle this time! One of the annoying things about this battle is that the Ice Sprite has a pretty strong spell called Healing Echo, which heals in the 3-digit range and also adds itself to the turn gauge. The Icicles seem harmless enough, but they're not. Frozen Shard hits for about 15 damage and the Ice Sprite has a six-hit combo attack that can do a total of 36 damage or higher, depending on your levels. For the actual strategy, either you can take the Ice Sprite head-on, taking the time to heal or you can go about it the slightly longer way and use the Ice Elements to reach Burst Mode faster and then use your strongest skills to sway the battle in your favor. You'll probably end up in Burst Mode multiple times like this, but being roundabout is the best way. Once she's by herself, she will probably start to use Healing Echo repeatedly or attack, but since it's 3 against 1 at this point, her efforts are for nothing. Use Pyre Bunker to outweigh what she recovers through Healing Echo, have Nell attack and use her skills once in Burst Mode and have Iris provide the healing to win this battle. Author's Note: After this battle, you'll receive Nymph, a Blade that's going to be very useful in Dakascus, in part because of its abilites, but also because most (if not all) of the enemies you'll meet there are weak against Ice, which will make the next two missions, "Lizard Musketeers" and "Greentail Bandits" much easier. But first, how about a pretty strong Blades for Edge? Magus -A witch with dangerous powers. It will summon many demons. Found In: "Unseen Weep" Stats: 12740 HP, 109 EXP, 106 BP, 137 ATK, 78 DEF, 352 MATK, 93 MDEF, 99 SPD Trait: Undead, Immune to EX Attacks and Poison Item Drop: None ToT: None Wow, look at the HP on this one! I assure you, it's not a typo. For this battle, it is important that you have Nell's Nymph Blades equipped! Magus has several attacks that focus on status afflictions, so better safe than sorry, I'd say. Magus has such fine attacks such as Cursed Dragon, an attack that hits for 30 damage and can cause Curse on the party. Her other attack is Death Call, which summons a monster to the gauge and hits four times for about 9 damage each hit. Her next attack is Zombie Rain, which hits for about 20-30 damage and can poison your party. She also has Life Drain, an attack that sucks HP out of you and adds it to her own. Finally, she also has a standard magical attack that hits for 30 damage. If you have Nymph with you, all you'll have to worry about is how much damage the attacks dish out or if you levelled the Blades up to Level 2, you'll have Healing Echo, which works exactly like the Healing Echo from the last battle. As for your strategy, you'll want to use both Sanctuary and Healing Echo with Nell while Edge and Iris attack Magus. With everything in place, this battle should be a cakewalk. After this, you'll have Jiptus, a very good Blades. What it lacks in speed, it makes up in power and when maxed, comes with the powerful Soul Burst attack. Lizard Lord -A commander of Lizards. Very skilled and able as a warrior. Found In: "Lizard Musketeers", Dakascus aftewards Stats: 1791 HP, 85 EXP, 24 BP, 396 ATK, 98 DEF, 165 MATK, 27 MDEF, 25 SPD Trait: Dragon, Weak against Ice Item Drop: Nicro Cloth ToT: Monster Cookie Lizard Wizard -A Lizard magician that is better educated than Humans. Found In: "Lizard Musketeers", Dakascus afterwards Stats: 1155 HP, 81 EXP, 33 BP, 163 ATK, 70 DEF, 390 MATK, 53 MDEF, 22 SPD Trait: Dragon, Weak against Ice Item Drop: Dragon Bone ToT: Monster Cookie Lizard Shaman -A spiritual Lizard that can communicate with their god. Found In: "Lizard Musketeers", Dakascus afterwards Stats: 424 HP, 48 EXP, 16 BP, 113 ATK, 48 DEF, 324 MATK, 44 MDEF, 19 SPD Trait: Dragon, Weak against Ice Item Drop: Dragon Bone ToT: Monster Cookie Normally, this would be a pretty rough combo, but you might be at around level 18 or so (don't fret, not everyone levels the same). First things first, take out the Lizard Shaman, since he's the weakest of the three. If Nell has her Nymph Blades equipped, her Witch Staff will be quite useful here. Next, go for the Lizard Wizard, who can attack you with Poison and also Hell Wave, a pretty powerful Fire attack. Normally, this would be a problem, but you have Nymph now, so just use Healing Echo to get healing aspect of the battle off of your mind for a bit. Once the Wizard is out of the way, there's the Lizard Lord. Stay on the offensive with him and the battle is yours. Don't rest too much now; I did say that there were two battles, right? In Eastern Dakascus... Lizard Thief (x3) -A member of the Greentail Bandits. A weak newbie member. Found In: "Greentail Bandits" Stats: 3612 HP, 26 EXP, 81 BP, 188 ATK, 57 DEF, 105 MATK, 24 MDEF, 122 SPD Trait: Dragon, Weak against Ice Item Drop: None ToT: None These guys are pretty strong, but we won't let that stop us, right? Right! Aside from their somewhat strong physical attacks, they can also use Venom, an attack that has a chance to Poison. Once in Burst Mode, you should be able to knock them out with no problem. Harpy -A Harpy with beautiful green wings. Pretty strong. Found In: "Beautiful Queen" Stats: 7056 HP, 109 EXP, 106 BP, 132 ATK, 36 DEF, 193 MATK, 38 MDEF, 191 SPD Trait: Beast Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Plua), Nell (Nymph) This battle isn't really that difficult. Other than a color change and some boosted stats, it's nothing to worry about. However, there's a good chance that you probably entered a few battles here and there and might be damaged. If so, use Nell's Nymph to cast Healing Echo to get back into shape. The Harpy has a basic attack that hits twice and Impulse, a shockwave attack that hits about three or four times for 10+ damage each hit. Use regular attacks with Edge to boost up the Burst Gauge (especially if you have the Wind Slicer equipped) and have Nell attack as well. Once in Burst Mode, use Blink Attack with Edge to take a pretty decent bit of health away. Stay on your feet, and victory is yours. Puni Taro -The oldest Puni Brother. The toughest of the bunch. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 32 EXP, 54 BP, 157 ATK, 38 DEF, 94 MATK, 31 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Puni Jiro -The middle Puni Brother. The leader of the three. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 32 EXP, 54 BP, 94 ATK, 28 DEF, 157 MATK, 41 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Puni Kichi -The youngest Puni Brother. Dangerous when angered. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 32 EXP, 54 BP, 188 ATK, 26 DEF, 188 MATK, 26 MDEF, 29 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) Update: As it turns out, you can actually fight them a chapter sooner, but it makes no difference. Thanks to Emerald-Rei for letting me know! At this point, level-wise, you're probably in your teens and maybe, your rank in Alchemy is about 2 or 3. If that's the case, then this battle will be the fastest ever. Use Mana Storm with Iris and use Edge and Nell to clean up the remainder. For what it's worth, it's a nice boost of BP. Stone Emperor (gray) -The stone soldier boss. Guards the treasures from invaders. Found In: "The Girls' Daily Lives" (Chapter 3 Mission) Stats: 14044 HP, 93 EXP, 95 BP, 226 ATK, 118 DEF, 210 MATK, 47 MDEF, 32 SPD Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks, Weak against Ice Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus or Plua), Nell (Nymph) Despite the menacing opening sequence where you get attacked, you don't get damaged. The Stone Emperor is fairly slow, so if you picked Plua with Edge, you might be able to get in at least two turns with Edge before its first turn. If Iris is equipped with the Gearshaft, use her to attack or if not, summon Nymph when you get the chance. Have Nell attack with her Witch's Staff and provide backup with healing if your health falls low. This battle is interesting because every turn, the Stone Emperor will restore around 300+ HP or so. He has a basic attack which hits for about 30 damage, along with a devastating attack called Cliff Slicer which can hit for 60 damage! He also attacks with Tera Flame, doing up to 40 damage to everyone Once in Burst Mode, use Nymph with Iris to do some good damage and have Edge use Death Call or Bone Bites. With this constant barrage of damage, it won't be too much longer before he topples like a stone (pardon the pun). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vd. Chapter 4 Bosses The first boss of this chapter is kinda tough, but you can do it. Musica -A demon that will ressurect unless defeated all at once. Found In: Ishtar, Sound Hill Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX Attacks, Resistant to Fist Attacks, Weak against Lightning Item Drop: None ToT: None Cancion -A demon with the Sound Mana's powers. Appears with Musica. Found In: Ishtar, Sound Hill Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX Attacks, Resistant to Staff Attacks, Weak against Ice Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus), Nell (Normal or Nymph) I was vague about the exact location of Musica and Cancion, so this paragraph will clear up their location. If you've found them, you can skip to the third paragraph. From the first screen, head south and then drop down, heading to the warp at the end. You'll now be at the 1st Level Terrace. Drop down and head to the right, fighting the enemies if you wish. Take the warp next to the Woofer and you'll now be in Woofer Village. Head across the bridge to the right until you reach a split. Take the right path and you'll now be at 2nd Level Terrace N. Follow the path and head south across the log to the next area. If you drop down carefully, you'll find an enemy and a treasure chest which contains a Pendelook. Then drop down two more times and collect the treasure at the split, going north and then east. In this new area, head across the bridge and then head south, going into the next area. Head west and then south, going across the bridge when you get the chance. Once across, head west. Don't worry, we're almost there. There, surrounded by grasses, will be a warp. Cut the grasses down for some items and then take the warp to 3rd Level, Sound Hill. Grab the chest on your left for a Nectar and then head to the right, where you'll run into an encounter. Unfortunately, like most of the strategies that you've seen so far, there's no real way to exploit the weaknesses of both of them...sorta. If you've been tinkering around with Alchemy, you may have made Edge's Ice Blade for his Jiptus Blades. With Nell (or Iris) you can equip them with the Thunder Ring. If you do this, you may want to use Nymph instead for some punch to the Lightning Attack. Cancion and Musica are a potentially dangerous duo. Cancion can silence your party, so the first thing to do would be to cast Sanctuary, which will protect you for a few turns from status afflictions. Cancion has a regular attack that can hit for around 40 damage. Musica can cast Nightmare, which can put your party to sleep and also Pandora's Box, an attack you might be pretty familiar with at this point in the game. He also has a three-hit attack which does around 30 damage. As for the actual strategy, you can use Edge (equipped with the Ice Blade) to attack Cancion and use Iris and Nell to attack Musica. Once in Burst Mode, if you have it, you can use Frozen Shard with Nell to damage Cancion quite a bit. Once Cancion is out of the way, the battle becomes a lot easier since you don't have to worry about status afflictions. Stay strong and the battle will be over. As a reward for your hard work, you receive Nell's Siren Blades, which will become quite useful when it comes to Alchemy for the Trick or Treat skill. Unfortunately, you don't get any exp from this battle, which kinda sucks. Jagged Bear -A bear-monster with silver fur. Strong against the cold. Found In: "Bridgetop Duel", Posporia Stats: 376 EXP, 25 BP Traits: Beast, Resistant to Ice Item Drop: Wild Meat ToT: Puppy Paw Bonbon Recommended Blades: Edge (Plua), Nell (Siren/whichever you want) Before you wonder why didn't I specify a Blades for Nell, it's because Edge will be the damage dealer in this battle. If you've been diligent about doing quests, you should be able to make a Wind Slicer with no problem at all, just in case you used the Wind Slicer to make another weapon. To get to our furry friend, head east two screens, then south and at that screen, head east. You'll be at a fishing spot and at the eastern-most exit, you'll find him. The Jagged Bear has a regular attack, which hits pretty hard at around 70 damage. He also has an attack called "Hug 'n Crush", which hits three times for 60 damage total. Once in Burst Mode, you'll be able to decimate him easily. Oh, what's this? It's our old friend (annoyance) Alvero! Time for fight 2!! Alvero (2nd encounter) -An annoying guy who keeps wanting to fight. Not shabby. Found In: "A Man's Request" (Chapter 4 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX Attacks and Poison Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus), Nell (Siren) Additional note: You might want to keep this setup for the boss battle afterwards. If you came in with something different, it's fine. Just remember to leave the Alterworld to change Blades/Equips and come back. Unlike last time, you're much stronger than before (or should be) and it's now three against one. Since the numbers are in your favor, two members of your party might be able to get some hits in before he can. His first attack is Twin Blade X, which hits about five times for weak damage overall and adds itself to the Turn Menu three times. When it comes up, it'll hit a character four times for minor damage. His next attack is Thunder Blade, which is just a little stronger than before, hitting in the area of 50 damage. Finally, there's his regular attack, which hits at around 30 damage. For this battle, you'll want to attack until you get into Burst Mode and heal your injuries if it gets serious (which is doubtful). Once in Burst Mode, you can use your strongest attacks to deal serious damage. If he happens to still be alive after all of that, rinse and repeat for the win. Hmm...looks like we'll be seeing him again sooner or later. Alkane -A battle fortress made in the ancient times. Found In: "A Man's Request" (Chapter 4 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks, Weak against Lightning Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus), Nell (Siren) Despite its appearance, Alkane is a pushover...with the right weapons. Before the battle, you should equip the Cyclops to Edge and the Funnybell to Nell. Alkane will start the battle off by casting Primal Ray, an attack that takes some time to execute. When it hits, it'll hit for about 100 damage to each party member. Another attack of his is called Armor-Alpha, which hits several times and finishes off with one hit, causing up to 45 damage or so to one person. Armor-Beta hits the whole party for around 30 damage. When you get the chance, attack with your party. Edge and Nell will hit him for at least 200-300 damage per turn, since the boss is weak against Lightning. Once in Burst Mode, you can use Soul Burst (if you have it) to put a serious dent in Alkane. Be sure to heal with Iris if anyone's health runs low and keep up the fight. See, that battle wasn't so bad at all. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ve. Chapter Five Bosses: We're up against the Puni Brothers once more. If it makes you feel better, there's a more difficult battle after this one. Puni Taro -The oldest Puni Brother. The toughest of the bunch. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 157 ATK, 38 DEF, 94 MATK, 31 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Puni Jiro -The middle Puni Brother. The leader of the three. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 94 ATK, 28 DEF, 157 MATK, 41 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Puni Kichi -The youngest Puni Brother. Dangerous when angered. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 188 ATK, 26 DEF, 188 MATK, 26 MDEF, 29 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) You gotta give these guys credit. They come back after being beaten down. Like the first time, just use Mana Storm with Iris and mop up the remains with Edge and Nell. The stats may be different for them at this point, but it did not seem to be that way when I fought them. Now, for that tough battle I was telling you about... Echo -A transformed Dryad. Causes trouble with Grove and Amber. Found In: "Danger! Pixie Trio" Stats: N/A Trait: Resistant to Fist and EX Attacks, Weak against Fire Item Drop: None ToT: None Grove -A transformed Sword Sprite. The cruelest of the trio. Found In: "Danger! Pixie Trio" Stats: N/A Trait: Resistant to Fist and EX Attacks, Weak against Ice Item Drop: None ToT: None Amber -A transformed Orb. She has a foul mouth, and spews venom. Found In: "Danger! Pixie Trio" Stats: N/A Trait: Resistant to Staff and EX Attacks, Weak against Lightning Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Nymph) As you can see, each Pixie has an elemental weakness. We'll be using that to our advantage. Personally, I had Nell equipped with Gurgu's Cane, Edge with Cyclops and Iris with the Hermes Staff. This way, you avoid their resistances and are able to get into Burst Mode faster as a result. Your party probably isn't faster than these Pixies, so Amber will probably use Healing Echo on the first turn, making this hell. Grove uses Dancing Edge, an attack that adds itself to the Turn Gauge, hitting for close to 50 damage. She also uses Mind Bomb, an attack that causes around 40 damage and can put whoever is hit with it to sleep. Echo uses a timed attack called Wood Stomp, which does decent damage and can cause Poison, which can be cured by using Sanctuary. Amber has a timed attack called Star Drop (you know, I'm really beginning to hate these Pixies!!) that can drop your defense. Once you attack and get into Burst Mode, a combination of summoning Nymph and using Frozen Shard should be enough to kill Grove. Now we're dealing with two against three, but don't rest on those laurels yet! You still have Amber and Echo to deal with. Use Iris and Nell to attack Echo while Edge works on Amber, chipping away at her HP slowly. When you get into Burst Mode, don't hold back! Use your strongest attacks to bring their health down, with attacks like Soul Burst and Frozen Shard. Soon, you'll be left with Echo, which should be a cakewalk now. Pummel her into submission, doing enough damage to negate the recovery of Healing Echo and the battle is yours! Well, this next one is sorta easy too, maybe. Note: Before taking on this mission, make a Grand Viper for Edge and equip it to him. It will make things easier for you. The recipe can be found on the way to the 3rd Level Terrace of Ishtar in a treasure chest. Kobold Fighter(x3) -A smart Kobold that can use weapons. He knows no limits. Found In: "Monster Puppeteer" first, Posporia afterwards Stats: 1305 HP, 84 EXP, 5 BP, 216 ATK, 58 DEF, 168 MATK, 44 MDEF, 39 SPD Traits: Beast Item Drop: Tufts ToT: Puppy Paw Bonbon Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Nymph) By now, these guys should be cake to you. Use whatever attacks are necessary, and don't be afraid to use skills if necessary. Oh, what's this? Rockwell -A dragon that has the powers of the Stone Mana. Found In: "Three Tasks" Stats: N/A Trait: Dragon, Immunue to EX Attacks, Resistant to Fist Attacks, Weak against Ice Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Nymph) As far as equipment goes, if you've explored every possible nook and cranny of Ishtar, you've probably found the recipe for the Grand Viper. Make it before doing the 3rd and final part of "Three Tasks" and equip it. Nell should be equipped with her Witch Staff and Iris should have the Hermes Staff. With this setup, the battle won't take long. Rockwell is your standard dragon (maybe he should've looked like The Elder so he could at least look intimidating, but I digress), but he has some pretty tough attacks that he dishes out. He has a standard attack that hits for about 60 damage or so. He also has Mind's Eye, an attack that locks on to a member of your party, giving 100% accuracy to any attack that requires it. Finally, there's Calamity, an Earth attack that hits everyone for around 50 damage. With the setup that I had, I had to defend just to see what else he could do since being knocked back constantly gave him little chance to attack. In Burst Mode, you can either use Frozen Shard or Nymph with Iris to attack him for a lot of damage. Once the battle is done, you get Diemia, a Blades for Nell, which makes up half of the "broken" combo used in this game for monsters. We won't have the other half of this combo for a while, though. Stone Emperor (red) -The boss of stone soldiers. It guards the gem of Escalario. Found In: "Spellbound Lineage" (Chapter 5 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks, Resistant to Staff Attacks, Weak against Lightning Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Normal) As you can see, the boss is weak against Lightning, even if it does look like the same Stone Emperor you fought two chapters ago. Unfortunately, this boss is resistant to magical attacks, which makes preparation kinda hard. However, there is no need to worry. Two effective attackers are better than two non- effective attackers, after all. The Stone Emperor has a few attacks with him, such as Tempest, a multi-hit attack that causes up to 30 damage. He also has a standard attack that hits for 50+ damage. He also has an attack called Judgement, which hits the whole party for 50+ damage and causes a decrease in Magical Defense. Also, like his predecessor, he recovers HP each turn, making this drag on longer than it has to. During this battle, use Edge and Nell to attack while you use Iris to keep the party nice and healthy. Once in Burst Mode, you can use Soul Burst with Edge and Ein Zecksclaw with Nell to pile up the damage. You'll probably have to repeat this pattern about 4 or 5 times to achieve victory. What the?! Ash -A high-ranked Raider who can control two swords at will. Found In: "Spellbound Lineage" (Chapter 5 Mission), "Obstacles Overcome" (Chapter 9 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None It looks like he wants a fight. We'll just have to take him on and win! Well, Ash is pretty damn strong, to say the least. Unfortunately, despite the optimism, you're going to lose this battle. All of your attacks will just do crap damage against him and he'll own you. Don't worry, we'll get him back one day... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vf. Chapter Six Bosses: To start this chapter off right, how about a new Blades for Edge? Fatebringer -A demon above the Deathknight. Has 6 floating swords. Found In: "They Only Walk Away" Stats: N/A Trait: Evil, Immune to EX Attacks and Poison, Weak against Lightning Item Drop: None ToT: None Living Sword (x2) -Demonic swords that fly around Fatebringer. Strong attacks. Found In: "They Only Walk Away" Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX Attacks, Weak against Lightning Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus or Plua if you've made the Quickstrike Blade) Nell (Nymph) Note: Before entering this Alterworld, make sure to equip Lightning element weapons for everyone! In order to get the Gravity Stone needed to make a Quickstrike Blade, when you get the hammer, explore the basement of Grimoire. With the hammer, you'll be able to explore the sections blocked off by rocks, and get to the "Outer Castle ??? Switch". Alternatively, you could just do the "Invisible Devils" quest and get one for free, but I prefer the former method, since you can add whichever property that you need to it. Additonal Note: Considering that this boss gives 1000+ BP, you could have one of your characters go in with the Blades that you want to level and have Lightning Element weapons on the other two. However, I claim no responsibility on how tough the battle will be if you do this, but it is worth mentioning. Wow, this monster is fast! This one might actually be tough. Fatebringer will start the battle off by using Gate, a spell that summons a Living Sword to his side. The Living Sword has an attack called Shadow's End, which does about 50 damage for 4 hits total and they get hit for about 1000 or so, along with a regular attack that isn't that threatening. Fatebringer has an attack called Dance of Swords, which can really rack on the damage if left unchecked. His other attack is Life Drain, which restores his HP by a little, if your defenses are good. The final attack he has is Reckless Slash, an attack that can be quite damaging. Since everyone has Lightning element weapons on them, you can treat this the same way as the Nymph battle way back in Chapter 2. Attack the Living Sword(s) one by one, get into Burst Mode and use that time to deal quite a bit of damage. Depending on your levels, this will probably be one of the longest battles you've faced up to this point. Persevere and victory will be yours! After the battle is over, you get Fanatos, which gives Iris access to a very strong Lightning Element summon. This'll be useful later in the game. Finally, instead of using "To Town", walk back a little and you'll see the idea bubble for the Living Uni, provided that you're at Alchemy Level 6. Next up, a pissed off pig. Giant Golden Pig -The forest spirit. Its huge body adds to the heavy blow. Found In: "Forest Spirit" Stats: N/A Trait: Beast, Immune to EX and Poison Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Plua), Nell (any) Note: Beforehand, make a Wind Slicer for Edge to make the battle a little easier. To get to the Giant Golden Pig, enter into the Forest Depths of Valtessa. Once there, head all the way to the top of the map. You'll see the encounter for the Giant Golden Pig there. The Giant Golden Pig is pretty fast. In fact, the battle will probably start with him attacking one of your party members. His standard attack does close to 100 damage. In addition to that, he can also block. His other attack is called Break, where he hits a party member for a solid 90+ damage and has knockback capabilities. Attack with Edge and Nell and use Iris as backup with healing/damage dealing. If you have Diemia with Nell, use Lock On and then Lance Stamp to hit for a lot of damage. When his health starts to get low, he'll start blocking more often than usual. Just keep up the assault and you should be fine. While we have Plua around, let's take down another Beast monster, shall we? Petit Kobold -The phantom killer. Agile, very small, and hard to catch. Found In: "Invisible Devils" Stats: N/A Trait: Beast, Immune to EX Attacks and Poison Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Plua with the Wind Slicer) Nell (any) This one is kinda tricky to get to and is quite possibly the only time-based boss fight. He's hidden inside of the Fairy Vault, but there's a guard in the way. Wait until the time has two orbs or lower left and then you can enter the vault. To get to the vault, follow these simple instructions. Before you figure that you can just simply go to the Kuma's side and blast yourself there and then wander around, you can't since the Kuma have their side blocked off. Anyway, from the starting area, head east two screens until you reach the Middle Battlegrounds. From there, head south and you'll now be at Fairy Fort West. Head south one more screen and you'll bet at Fairy Cannon West. Follow the path until you see two Kuma at a table. Head south past them and follow the path down, ignoring the cut to the left. Now you'll be at Fairy Fort, West Gate. Follow the fairly linear path and then you'll be at Fairy Fort, West Entrance. Continue along this path and you'll soon end up at Western Fairy Forest. When you get to the split (a strong monster will be there) take the southern half. Follow the path along two screens and head north at the second screen. In this area, head along the path and at the split, head south and there, you're at the Treasury. At this point, you've probably made it there with a lot of time to spare. Once the hourglass has two dots left you should be able to enter the vault. If it's at two dots while you're there, you'll have to backtrack out one screen and then come back in. Once inside, pick up the treasures and make sure to heal your party if you happened to get injured while on the way here. Wow, what an annoying monster! The Petit Kobold uses quick at the start of the battle to get some hits in. His Quick takes precedence over Edge's, just in case you're wondering. The Petit Kobold has a basic Bite attack that hits for about 40 damage or so. Not a lot, right? When combined with Quick, that 40 damage becomes quite bothersome. With Edge, use regular attacks or if you've built up your Skill Gauge, you can rack on the damage by using Blink Attack and then Illusion Edge. Because of the Kobold's speed, it is important to keep an eye on your health, unless you'll end up with a dead party member. Once in Burst Mode, don't hold back and use your strongest skills to put a dent in our speedy friend. Keep your guard up, stay healed and you'll make it through this one. Important Note: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Before we move on, have you been diligent in completing quests? If you've done Reize's "Want Tasty Meat" quest, you now have the other half of the "broken" combo I talked about in the last chapter. For those of us who are not skilled at Alchemy, I'll explain further. First, you make Skimir's Staff with the Blessed Weapon Property. Then you take your new Skimir's Staff and make a Hermes Staff with it. However, for the sake of those who are not diligent with questing, the guide will continue as if you don't have it, but I'll let this slide up until Chapter 8 or so, where it becomes pretty useful to have. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next up, to Ishtar to battle some dragons. Dragonewt (x3) -A rare type of Lizard born from an amethyst egg. Found In: "Lizards Four", D.D. afterwards Stats: N/A Trait: Dragon, Resistant to EX Attacks and Fire Item Drop: Dragon Bone ToT: Monster Cookie Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus or any), Nell (any) Hey...I feel ripped off! There's supposed to be four of these monsters, not three! (To discover what happened to the 4th, read the mission card after the battle. A cheap laugh indeed.) To start, their attacks aren't really that much different from your standard everyday dragon monster. They have a standard attack and Break. Oh, and they also recover around 200 HP a turn. Since they aren't weak against any element in particular, use whatever strong attacks you have at your disposal, using regular attacks to get in Burst Mode. Once you're in Burst Mode, you'll be able to mop the floor with them, as if it were nothing. Next, Nell's last Blades. Mirage -A demon that has the powers of the Illusion Mana. Found In: "Celestial Rookery" Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX Attacks, Resistant to Poison Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommeded Blades: Edge (Fanatos or any) Nell (any) Note: If you have any equips that grant immunity or protection from EX type attacks, now would be a good time to equip them. Hmm, looks like someone is gonna face their personal demon. Yeah, nothing is cooler than getting rid of a personal demon. Anyway, Mirage has a regular four hit attack doing about 50 damage. She also has an attack called Chomp, which hits one target, killing them. Use a Nectar to get that person back into the battle if you get hit by it. If you have Fanatos with Edge then there's a chance that the Reincarnation skill will activate, restoring about half of his HP and giving him a Magic Attack boost as well. Her final attack is Forgetful Hammer, which can cause the Seal status affliction, keeping you from casting spells. As for an actual strategy, get into Burst Mode and use your strongest skills to put a dent in her health. You might have to get into Burst Mode a few times in order to win the battle, but there isn't anything here that you can't take on at this point. After the battle, you get the very useful Faustus, whose abilites are kinda useful, depending on the situation. For the insightful, you'll now see that Nell has five Blades (including her Normal), while Edge just has four Blades (including his Normal). Don't worry, we'll be getting to his very soon. Finally, don't forget about this place. When your Alchemy Level reaches 8, an idea can be found here. Alvero (3rd encounter) -Alvero has been tricked into gaining this awful power. Found In: "Challenging Control" (Chapter 6 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Undead, Immune to Poison and EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Normal or Jiptus) Nell (Normal) Note: Before taking on this battle, I suggest making a Holy Halberd if you're going to take the Jiptus route towards this battle. If you stick with Normal, assuming that Edge has mastered it, you'll have a pretty useful attack to take advantage of his Undead trait. With Nell, equip her with Balmung for an easier time. In order to get to Sword Hill (where the fragment of Escalario is ) you have to find any Lithograph and set it to the future. There's one in Woofer Village and from there, you crush the rocks blocking the teleport. Once you take it, the path is fairly straightforward. Additional Note: This battle is fought in two halves. The first half is just regular Alvero and the second half is where the Undead Trait comes into play. You're probably at least 3 - 4 levels stronger than before, which works out in your favor. His attacks haven't changed from the last time that you fought. There's Twin Blade X, an attack that adds itself to the Turn Gauge and hits for pretty weak damage, Thunder Blade which hits for around 40+ damage or so and finally, a regular attack. Take him down using your strongest attacks and this half of the battle should not take long at all, especially once in Burst Mode. Oh, what's this? He wants to try again and settle the score! At this time, the Undead Trait becomes attached to Alvero. Your weapons or skills that target the Undead will do good damage here. His attacks haven't changed in the slightest, other than the fact that they do more damage now. Hopefully, you didn't get too beat up in the first half, since whatever HP you had left over from the first half carries over. To start, heal up any injuries that your party has and use Edge and Nell to attack, damaging him quite a bit. Once in Burst Mode, you should be able to take him down once more. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vg. Chapter Seven Bosses: Alright, we're here in Chapter 7! Just three away from the end of the game! For starters, let's take on a Lizard King! King of Scales -The squad leader of the Greentail Bandits. Found In: "Bandits Ressurected" Stats: N/A Trait: Dragon, Resistant to Fist Attacks, Immune to Poison, Weak against Ice Item Drop: None ToT: None Lizard Thief(x2) -A member of the Greentail Bandits. A weak newbie member. Found In: "Greentail Bandits" Stats: 3612 HP, 26 EXP, 81 BP, 188 ATK, 57 DEF, 105 MATK, 24 MDEF, 122 SPD Trait: Dragon, Weak against Ice Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus), Nell (Nymph) Note: It might be a good to make a few Breath of Earth. You'll need one in order to get to the boss. To get to the King of Scales, once you reach the four-way split, head to the right. You'll now be at Crystal Valley East. Don't head up or down, but continue to the right. In this new area, continue northward, ignoring the path that you can repair with the Breath of Earth. Once you're able to head west, take that path and use the Breath of Earth to cross the crystal to the boss. The best thing to do is to get rid of the Lizard Thieves first and then focus your attacks on the King of Scales. The Lizard Thieves can use Venom, and also a regular attack, doing minor damage. The King of Scales has a pretty strong physical attack, doing about 100+ damage to a single character. He also uses Dragon Stance, an attack that gives him a speed boost and he has Venom too. Once in Burst Mode, you can use Iris' Nymph summon or Frozen Shard to really cause some damage. Keep up the assualt and the battle will be yours in no time at all. Next up, the Puni Bros. for the third time now. Puni Taro -The oldest Puni Brother. The toughest of the bunch. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 157 ATK, 38 DEF, 94 MATK, 31 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Puni Jiro -The middle Puni Brother. The leader of the three. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 94 ATK, 28 DEF, 157 MATK, 41 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Puni Kichi -The youngest Puni Brother. Dangerous when angered. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 188 ATK, 26 DEF, 188 MATK, 26 MDEF, 29 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any), Nell (any) In all of my years of gaming, I have never seen a group of monsters going to such heights to get beaten down for what's going to be the third time in a row. By now, you should have a pretty good idea of how to get to them (they're at the fishing spot, btw). As usual, use Mana Storm with Iris and have Edge and Nell mop the floor with what's left. After beating up on them so easily, I feel bad, but only for a moment. Important Note: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ At this point in the game, you can fight the optional boss known as Shadow Stalker. What's so special about him, you ask? Well, for starters, he's the one that's between you, Edge's last Blades, and an Alchemy Idea that leads to the creation of Deus Ex Machina, the best weapon for Normal Blades Edge. On the other hand, he's quite strong and you just might lose. For perspective, when I was at level 28, I went up against him and lost. Aside from that, I feel that it's best to wait until Chapter Eight to take him on as opposed to Chapter Seven since Fanatos doesn't have really damaging skills and the one effective weapon with Faustus doesn't hit that many times. But, this wouldn't be much of a bestiary if I didn't give a strategy for taking him on a chapter early. Fighting him in Chapter Seven will require some preparation beyond just which Blades to use, but also what items to have and which weapons to bring into the battle. Finally, for those of us who wish to wait, I'll have a strategy available for use in Chapter 8, so there's no need to feel left out of the loop. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Shadow Stalker -The Mana of Time is trapped within. This demon multiplies. Found In: Ishtar on Sword Hill (3rd Level Terrace) Stats: N/A Trait: Evil, Immune to EX Attacks and Poison, Resistant to Magical Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Fanatos) Nell (Siren or Faustus) Note: Before doing this, make absolutely sure that you have a Talisman for Edge and either a Jyoja (if you're using Siren) or a Hell Doll, if you're going to use Faustus. Additionally, you'll want to try to make a Healing Bracelet for Iris. To make this, either complete "The Strong Bears!" or the "Battlefield Nurse" quest to get the Fragment of Aion. Also, try to get items that heal the whole party and have Nectars at the ready in case Iris happens to fall. Believe me, you're in for a rough one. Finally, for Iris, you should go about creating the "broken" combo that I mentioned earlier in the guide. It will come in handy, trust me. Hopefully, your memory isn't bad because the Shadow Stalker is at the exact same location that you grabbed the last fragment of Escalario, but here's the short version. Set the Lithograph to the future, break the rocks in Woofer Village, use the teleport, then head south, then follow the path until you can go north. To start off, the Shadow Stalker has a decent variety of attacks. He has a regular attack that hits for 100+ damage, as well as Meteor, a powerful attack that adds itself to the Turn Gauge. He also has Time Quake, a pretty strong spell that causes knockback, and decreases Magic Defense, but the worst of these attacks is Phantom Shift, when he splits himself into two Shadow Stalkers, both of which are at full health. This split will probably happen a few times, so it's important to be on guard. To be perfectly honest with you, I didn't win when I gave it a shot, despite my preparations. However, if you do win, you'll get Luplus, one of Edge's best Blades. On the other hand, despite all of that, you get no EXP for all of the struggling that you went through. Finally, be sure to check where the Shadow Stalker was for an Alchemy Idea (provided that your Alchemy Level is at the maximum -- if not, come back when it is). Yes, as far as bosses go, this has been a pretty short chapter. Finally, we have Crowley to deal with. Crowley -The mastermind whose crazed mind continues to cause chaos. Found In: "Embracer of Darkness" (Chapter 7 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX Attacks and Poison Item Drop: None ToT: None Shadow (looks like a Panther) -A black panther that Crowley summons. Found In: "Embracer of Darkness" (Chapter 7 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Evil, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) Note: You might want to bring a few Breath of Earth around, just in case you feel like exploring prior to the boss battle and you'll need one in order to get to where Crowley is. After some fine words exchanged, the battle begins. Finally, here we are! It took a while, but we're going to make Crowley pay! Crowley starts the battle off with an attack called Heaven's Gate, which takes some damage away. His next attack is Whirl of Greed, an attack that hits for around 70 damage to the whole party. He has an attack that boosts his speed and he'll use Gate to summon two Shadows, a decently strong monster or two Chevaliers, which can heal Crowley's wounds. He also uses Vritra, an attack that hits the whole party, and adds itself to the Turn Gauge. He also has Mesmerize Edge which is not an attack to lure Edge's attention away, but rather a multi-hit attack that hits for about 30 - 40 damage. Finally, he has a regular attack that does decent damage and uses half of the damage to heal him or he throws a large sword at one of your characters, hitting for around 50 damage. Use your attacks to get into Burst Mode and from there use the best skills that you possess to take him down. If Shadows or Chevaliers show up, take them out and then resume your offensive on Crowley. It's just a matter of time before you defeat him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vh. Chapter Eight Bosses: Just a little closer to the end now; congrats on making it this far! Our first battle of this chapter is a Kobold. A twin-sword wielding Kobold. Fugitive Kobold -A ninja Kobold who left his home. Their rules are strict. Found In: "Tribal Code" Stats: N/A Trait: Beast, Immune to Fist Attacks, Poison and EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Plua) Nell (Normal) Note: Try to have the Blessed Weapon property on both Nell and Edge to make things easier for you. To get to this particular Kobold, you gotta head to Crystal Valley North. From there, you continue to head north and when you reach the third screen after the entrance to Crystal Valley North, head north and make a left. He'll be right there. For starters, the Fugitive Kobold is pretty fast and uses Boomerang Shot, an attack that hits four times for some decent damage. On top of that, he has the Quick ability, which decreases the wait time between actions. He also uses Kobold Aerial, another multi-hit damaging attack. Finally, he uses Kobold Bound, a multi-hit attack that damages the whole party. Once you get into Burst Mode you can use your strongest skills and be sure to stay healed up. Next up, a Fungo. Wandering Fungo -A lost Fungo in Grimoire. It can heal small injuries. Found In: "Shroom Out of Place" Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX Attacks, Resistant to Lightning, Weak against Fire Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommened Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Nymph) Note: Prior to this battle, you'll want to equip both Nell and Iris with Fire element weapons and also make sure that you have a Dragon Bone. It's fairly easy to get to the Wandering Fungo. Once in the basement of Grimoire, go across the bridge and then north to the next screen. In this new area, head north and go east the first chance you can get. It will be towards the back of the room. Now, you may be wondering why is it that I told you to use Jiptus. Here's why; the Wandering Fungo recovers a good amount of HP (about 500+ to be exact). It also has an attack called Poison Blow, which hits for about 50 damage and causes Poison to one character. The Poison itself is fairly strong, doing about 100+ to a character. To counter his healing, use Cursed Dragon, which will make this easier. From there, use what attacks that are available to you, using Nell and Iris to boost up the Burst Gauge. From there, one good Soul Burst should wipe it out. All in all, not a hard battle. Now, for those of us who are impatient, I think it's about time that we start to wrap up a certain loose end from Chapter 7. Before taking him on, it is important that you complete the "Sword of Dakascus" quest. Doing this will allow you to make Solomon's Key, which is the final ingredient in making the Demon Fang Blade. Shadow Stalker -The Mana of Time is trapped within. This demon multiplies. Found In: Ishtar on Sword Hill (3rd Level Terrace) Stats: N/A Trait: Evil, Immune to EX Attacks and Poison, Resistant to Magical Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Plua) Nell (Siren) Note: Beforehand, have Nell equipped with the Blessed Weapon property. This way, you increase your damage output. Two effective attackers are better than one, after all. Also, be sure to bring good healing items and have Nectars, just in case. Finally, make sure that Edge is equipped with the Demon Fang Blade; this battle is a whole lot harder if you only have one effective attacker! With the setup, you'll be able to get into Burst Mode pretty quickly. Once in Burst Mode, use Iris with Diemia (provided that she has a weapon with the "Blessed Weapon" property on it) to deal major damage. You can also use Edge's strongest skills to stack on the damage. If you're lucky (or have a really fast Edge), you'll probably be able to kill him outright before he can split. In the event that he does split, continue to attack and stay healed. The neat thing about him splitting himself is that when he splits, the halves appear to be weaker overall. Just keep at it and you'll win the battle. As stated before, be sure to check where the Shadow Stalker was for an Alchemy Idea, which will you allow you to create the Deus Ex Machina, Edge's strongest weapon in his Normal Blades form. Up next, an Undead Lord?! Fallen Lord -A demon resurrected from an old lord of an Alterworld. Found In: "Subcontract, Again" Stats: N/A Trait: Undead, Immune to EX Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Normal) Note: Equip both characters with weapons that have the 'Undead' trait on them for an easier battle. The Fallen Lord has a few attacks, none that are too dangerous, really. He has a standard attack that hits for about 80 damage. He can also block your attacks, but that shouldn't be too bothersome. He also has Break, a pretty strong attack that causes knockback. Beat him down however you want to and you'll have this battle won in no time at all. What a disappointing battle, overall. And now, for the final boss of this chapter...a familiar face. Yula (2nd encounter) -Nell's big sister. She gained the power to teleport. Found In: "Sisters" (Chapter 8 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX Attacks and Poison Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) Note: In order to reach Yula, you have to activate the switch located in the basement level of Grimoire and flip it, then come back to the entrance level, use the hammer on the rocks and flip the switches that you see along the way in order to reach the top level. Yula has a nice variety of attacks, but she's still beatable. Her first attack is called Killer Quake, which hits for about 100+ damage or so and adds itself to the Turn Gauge. If you have Luplus on Edge, you can remove it using Time Refresh. If you don't, then the attack itself does about 70 damage or so. Her next attack is Beat Down, which hits twice and drops your defense. She has an attack called Scarlet Surge, which boosts up her speed and she will follow it up with Grand Quake, an attack that hits the whole party multiple times and also adds itself to the Turn Gauge. She also has Yula Strike, which also adds on to the Turn Gauge and can cause a random status affliction when it hits. She finally has a standard attack which does around 50 damage. Despite all of this, do your best to get into Burst Mode. Once in Burst Mode, let her have it with your strongest attacks. You might have to do this a few times, given her pretty good defense. Just keep at it and stay healed and you'll come out on top. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vi. Chapter Nine Bosses: The second to last chapter. Who would've thought? As far as bosses go, this chapter is pretty short. Anyway, up first is a bear. An angry red bear. Scarlet -A violent red bear. Very powerful and tough to beat. Found In: "Red-haired Beast" Stats: N/A Trait: Beast, Immune to EX Attacks, Fire, and Magical Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Plua) Nell (Normal) To get to Scarlet, head to the tree icon on your map. It'll be there, moving around. To start off, Scarlet is decently strong and has a few good immunities built up. His first attack is Slam, which hits twice for around 200 damage and hits one character, lowering their Magic Attack. He also has Counter Form which allows him to counterattack with an attack that hits for 100+ damage. To get around this, attack with Iris since it only works on physical attacks. As for the actual strategy, attack with Edge and Nell. Once in Burst Mode, let him have it with your best attacks. Even though he will use Counter Form, let him have it anyway. And there you have it, a nice victory with some decent EXP to boot. Up next, demonic twins. Undark -One of the Demon lord twins. Good at close combat fighting. Found In: "Twinshade Demons" Stats: N/A Trait: Evil, Immune to EX attacks and Fire, Resistant to Fist Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Deholy -One of the Demon lord twins. Good with support and healing. Found In: "Twinshade Demons" Stats: N/A Trait: Evil, Immune to EX attacks and Ice, Resistant to Magical Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommened Blades: Edge (Plua) Nell (Nymph) Note: Equip Edge with the Demon Fang Blade and Nell with Jyoja for an easier battle. Also, try to get the "Blessed Weapon" on both of them. Wow, these twins look tough. Since you have Plua, you'll probably have the first chance to attack. These twins are pretty strong themselves. Undark has an attack called Sword Slicer, which hits three times for minor damage to one character and can drop your defense. Deholy can cast Meteor, an attack you should be familiar with. Undark also uses Slashback, a multi-hit combo to one character for about 100+ damage. They also both have a regular attack that hits for decent damage. Deholy also uses Heal All, healing the both of them for about 2000+ or so. The trick to this battle is to use Edge and Nell to attack either sister (or both) to get into Burst Mode, then having Edge attack Deholy with his best attacks while Nell and Iris use their best attacks on Deholy. Following this pattern, the battle won't take that long. Stay healed and you'll be fine. Another battle with a pretty good exp payoff. For twins, they weren't that tough. And now, for a rematch four chapters in the making! Ash -A high-ranked Raider who can control two swords at will. Found In: "Spellbound Lineage" (Chapter 5 Mission), "Obstacles Overcome" (Chapter 9 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) Note: Make sure to have some form of effective healing with you (Elixers and Feudal Snackcastles come to mind) or having Heal All on Iris. This battle will take place in two parts and there's no healing in between. After all of this time, it's time to pay him back for the crushing defeat suffered back in Chapter 5. Anyway, Ash has a decent variety of attacks, but it's nothing that you can't handle. The first attack is Sword Wave, which hits everyone for about 50 damage. He also has Break, which hits for about 100 damage and a regular attack that hits one person once or twice for 40 and 80 damage, respectively. Since this is the first part and all, just attack to get into Burst Mode and then use your strongest skills to wrap this up quickly. Before you finish him off, make sure that your party is fairly healed. "That was just a warm-up. Let's see how you do when the kid gloves are off." Ash (Azoth form) -Ash with his true powers. His weapon is the legendary Azoth. Found In: "Obstacles Overcome" (Chapter 9 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Fans of Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny will instantly recognize the weapon he's using. Ash is much stronger this round and all of his attacks have gotten stronger as well. The first is Twin Shot which hits three times, averaging about 100 damage total. His next attack is Break Rain, an attack that hits the whole party for about 60 - 70 damage per person. He also has Liberate Limit, which increases his speed greatly, allowing him to have five turns in a row! At the end he'll use Master Shift, shielding him from physical attacks, followed by Destructoblade, which hits multiple times to one of your characters for pretty severe damage. You'll know when it's about to hit, since the Azoth blades will start to move around him. He also uses Deadly Bolt, hitting one character twice for 180 damage total that may cause instant death. As for the actual strategy, it is important to stay healed up,healing when one of your character's bars are in the yellow or worse. Attack him to get into Burst Mode and don't hold back. He has quite a bit of HP, so you'll end up using the power of Burst Mode quite a few times in this epic battle. Keep it up and you can call yourself the strongest Raider in the world. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vj. Final Chapter Bosses: Okay, you're here at last! At this point, you could just rush to the end and see the ending, or you could join the few, the proud, the small collection of people that have faced the legendary monster (which is also the toughest). For those just wishing to finish the game and get it over with, the Uroborus strategy is at the bottom. For those who want to fill in their Monster List & get some nice alchemy ideas along the way, this portion is for you! At any rate, the first boss of this chapter is a Puni. An evil Puni. Emperor of Hades -The legendary king of darkness...in Puni form. Found In: "Awakening" Stats: N/A Trait: Puni, Immune to EX and Poison Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommened Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Normal) Note: If you have one, equip Nell with her Punislayer weapon. If you don't, you should definitely be able to make one by now. To get to our squishy friend, head to the underground basement of Grimoire. From there, head north past the first path to the east until you reach the second one. From there, he'll be in the lower right corner. Hmm...he doesn't look much like an emperor. Anyway, he has a regular attack that can hit for around 110 damage. He also has the Puni Spike attack, hitting for up to 160 damage to a single target. He can also use Tera Flame, hitting all members of your party with Fire magic. Finally, to top it all off, he has the Guts ability, which can keep him alive at 1 HP, so you may have to try a few times to kill him once this activates. As for the general strategy, use Nell and Edge to attack while Iris keeps the team healed. Once in Burst Mode, let him have it with Soul Burst, which can rack on the damage pretty quickly. Also, since you have Normal Nell, you can use Life Convert to extend the life of your Skill Gauge, but if you take this approach, use caution and be sure to keep Nell healthy. Next, we have a dragon. Hells' Fran Pfeil -The drake of all drakes. Its fire can burn anything to ash. Found In: "Return of the Dragon" Stats: N/A Trait: Dragon, Immune to EX, Poison and Fire Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Diemia) Note: Equip Edge with the Grand Viper and Nell with the Dragoneer to turn this battle into a cakewalk. Hmm...is it me, or does he seems larger than the other dragons that you've faced so far? Anyway, this particular dragon comes with some damaging attacks at his disposal. Its first attack is a regular one, hitting one person for over 100 damage. The next that it has is Impulse, which hits the whole party one time for about 90 damage or so. Finally, it can use a VERY powerful Tera Flame, which can probably kill one of your party members outright. For the actual strategy, drop his defense with Nell and from there, attack with the both of them. Once in Burst Mode, you can use Soul Burst with Edge & Mind's Eye followed by Lance Stamp with Nell to rack up the damage. Rinse and repeat to win. Not a bad challenge, really. Up next, a pot. Aladdin Pot -A magic pot that continues to summon Elders if left alone. Found In: "Magical Pot" Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX, Fist and Staff Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Ancients -A supernatural fusion of the powers of angels and devils. Found In: Ishtar, D.D. Stats: N/A Trait: Evil, Immune to EX Attacks, Weak against Lightning Item Drop: Ultra-thin Leotard ToT: Vanilla Syrup Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) Note: The description is kinda misleading. It actually summons Ancients, which you may have fought against already. If you haven't, well let's just say that they're built like tanks and when you hit them with their weakness, they hit back with Vortex, a pretty strong Lightning element spell. Getting to the Aladdin Pot can be kinda confusing. For starters, it's very important to set the Lithograph to the Future, so that the sword in the First Level Terrace is plunged downward (the one blocking the path to the west when you first arrive). When you get there, follow the screens until you reach a split. From there, head east and before crossing the log bridge, it'll be down below you. Now, you may be wondering to yourself, how can I damage an enemy who's immune to everything? Before you give up on the game and rush to the ending, here's how you do it. Use Iris' Faustus summon to remove its traits. Now, it's just a regular pot with strong defense. It has a regular attack that hits thrice for minor damage andit also can use Tempest, a strong spell that hits three times for about 100 damage. Finally, it has Pandora's Box which summons an Ancients to the field. The best thing to do after you eliminate its traits is to pummel it with any strong skills that you might have. Once in Burst Mode, you can use Fanatos on a stunned Ancients to knock it out in one hit. With the traits gone on the Aladdin Pot, this battle becomes pretty easy. Deal with the Ancients as he summons them and sooner or later, he'll be done for and as a reward, you get some nice EXP and the recipe to make the strongest axe in the game, Odysseus. In addition, this weapon will pretty much be your best Beast class killer with Edge (it will always be a mystery on why is it that you have to wait until the last chapter in order to get it, though). Anyway, let's put that new found axe to use, shall we? Kobold Kid -The infamous phantom thief. All Kobolds look up to him. Found In: "Thief of the Century" Stats: N/A Trait: Beast, Immune to EX and Poison Attacks Recommended Blades: Edge (Jiptus) Nell (Normal) Note: Be sure to equip Odysseus on Edge and the Hunter Needle on Nell for an easier time. You don't have to go very far to reach the Kobold Kid. You can find him at the first split path in the first screen of the Giant Tree. The Kobold Kid has a regular attack that hits for about 90 damage. He also uses Kobold Bound, an attack where he bounces all over the place, hitting all party members several times, doing a grand total of 100 damage to each member. Finally, he has Bite, an attack that does pretty good damage. As always, stay healed. Now normally, a battle against a beast wouldn't be annoying, but the Kobold Kid restores close to 1000 HP each turn that he gets to act. Even attacking him critcally won't make much of a difference if he can just recover the difference, right? Unfortunately, you can't absorb his traits with Faustus, since he's immune to EX and Poison type attacks. The best thing to do is to beat him down with Edge and Nell and once in Burst Mode, let loose with your strongest skills and attacks. Using Diemia while Iris has the Blessed Weapon property is quite helpful, doing damage in the five-digit range in Burst Mode. As you do this, the amount of damage that you put in will negate the amount that he can recover, which will lead to victory. Next up, for the final time...the Puni Brothers. Puni Taro -The oldest Puni Brother. The toughest of the bunch. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 157 ATK, 38 DEF, 94 MATK, 31 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX, Fist and Poison Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Puni Jiro -The middle Puni Brother. The leader of the three. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 94 ATK, 28 DEF, 157 MATK, 41 MDEF, 58 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX, Staff and Poison Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Puni Kichi -The youngest Puni Brother. Dangerous when angered. Found In: "Puni Brothers!, Puni Brothers 2!, Puni Brothers 3?! and Puni Brothers Forever" Stats: 885 HP, 64 EXP, 54 BP, 188 ATK, 26 DEF, 188 MATK, 26 MDEF, 29 SPD Trait: Puni, Immune to EX, Fist and Staff Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any), Nell (Normal) Note: Equip Nell with her Punislayer weapon -- she'll be the only one able to do decent damage outside of Burst Mode! Wow, look at that! These Punis have really trained themselves to the limit! As you can see, they're immune to most kinds of attacks and their attacks do decent damage now. In addition, they can recover their HP, which makes things quite troublesome. Finally, to top it all off, they know Guts, which can make them linger on longer than they need to. For starters, focus your attention on Puni Taro, who is not immune to magical attacks. Once in Burst Mode, let it fly with whatever attacks you have. Also, I find it best to focus on one Puni at a time, but depending on your Blades setup, either that will be easy or easier said than done. Alternatively, you can use attacks that hit all targets or have Iris use Diemia. Keep it up, and victory will be yours with a very nice exp payoff. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Note: This next boss is optional, however, by not doing it, you forfeit the chance to see the 'good ending' of the game. If you don't, then you'll get the 'bad ending' of the game. Whether you choose to or not is entirely up to you, but this will continue on as if you're aiming for the 'good ending'. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stone Emperor (navy blue) -The last emperor that guards the lair of Uroborus. Found In: "Truth In Darkness" Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks, Resistant to Fist Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) Note: If you have a physical-type Blades, it might be helpful to have the Blessed Weapon property on one of their equips, whether it be a weapon or an accessory. An interesting note about this battle: The "broken" combo doesn't seem to be as effective on him as other bosses, which is strange considering the fact that he's not immune to physical attacks, only resistant. The Stone Emperor looks intimidating like the other two, but is nothing to worry about. It has an attack called Cliff Slicer, which does a decent amount of damage. In addition to that attack, it also has a regular attack that hits for a little less than Cliff Slicer. For the actual strategy, use standard attacks to get into Burst Mode and once there, beat him down with magical attacks. This battle won't take long at all especially considering how strong you are at this point in the game. Alright, three bosses left to go. Now, let's face the strongest boss in the whole game (not the final boss -- if you can beat this one, you're pretty much set as far as boss preparation goes). In addition, if you don't care for it, you don't have to take him on; like our friend the Stone Emperor, it is completely optional. *Mini Puni* -A tiny Puni that was born for revenge after the genocide. Found In: "The Last Hero" Stats: N/A Trait: Puni, Immune to EX, Staff and Poison Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (Luplus) Nell (Diemia or Normal) Before you can take on our really strong friend, you have to accept and finish the "Mystery of Puni" quest, which only appears if you've been diligent in doing your Combat Quests. The best way to take out 200 Puni is to go to the tree icon in the Ancient Forest of Valtessa and hit the tree with the hammer. The monster that falls out will most likely be a group of Puni. Sometimes, you might end up with some other monsters. Just take them out and continue the pattern. Once you're done with that, the combat quest "The Last Hero" will make itself available to you. To get to it, head to the Ancient Forest and then into the Forest Depths. Head north into the next screen and keep straight, jumping to the top of the platform there. It'll be right there, waiting for you. Note: If you're going to take the Diemia route with Nell, the weapon that you use is of some importance. Try to get a weapon that provides a steady amount of hits, such as her Dragoneer. If you're taking the Normal route, then the Punislayer is your best bet. Also, come into this battle with someone having the "Raise" skill. It'll save you some time and is better than a Nectar, to be honest. It also helps to come into the battle with at least 3 points in the Skill Gauge. That way, you can start off by using the Luplus summon with Iris and start to swing the momentum in your favor. Also, try to make at least five Unirus Lifeforms; they'll be quite useful in this battle. Note 2: In addition, make sure to save before taking him on. If the boss is able to pull of "Vengeance Puni Summon", there's no way that you can win. By doing this, you save time and don't have to struggle to make everything over again. Once it does happen, just reset the game and try again. To start off, the *Mini Puni* is quite fast and does a good amount of damage, despite its size. Its first attack (and only, thank goodness) is Vengeance Puni Attack, which comes with the Blessed weapon property, doing a great deal of damage. If anything, the attack may outright kill one of the party members outright. In addition, in the event that you get him down to 25% health (noted by the fact that his health bar will be a reddish color) you MUST finish the battle quickly because it is around this time that he will use Vengeance Puni Summon, which basically means that there's a pretty good chance that you'll lose. How to counter all of this, you ask? Well, for starters, have Edge cast Slow on the Mini Puni, which will save you some time. Then have Iris use the Luplus summon to boost everyone's speed. From there, you can attack regularly to get the Burst Gauge up. Also, don't bother with healing during this battle; it is a waste of time and you're just better off using Raise. Once in Burst Mode, use Cosmic Bane to knock it back quite a bit and with Nell, either use Lance Stamp (if you have Diemia) or use Ein Zecksclaw (if you have Normal). Because of its strength, this battle will take a while, but once you win, you can pretty much beat the rest of the game, so it looks like my work here is done...Just kidding. Enjoy all of the EXP that you get from this battle and 99 Crunchy Fruit. Next up, the second-to-last boss fight. Guardian (x2) -A soldier that appears in many places. It guards something. Found In: "To the World" (Chapter 10 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks, Resistant to Fist Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Servant -A messenger of darkness. They drag people into the abyss. Found In: "To the World" (Chapter 10 Mission) Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks, Resistant to Staff Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) Note: If you're feeling unsure about what Blades you have, you can always backtrack to the Resonant Spell at the beginning of the area. In addition, it always helps to have the Blessed Weapon property! If you've done all of the quests and optional boss fights, then the Servant might appear to be scary. Don't worry, there'll be no multiple copies in this fight. The Servant comes into the battle with a regular attack that does a decent amount of damage, but nothing too serious. The Guardians use Spin Tornado, an attack that hits one person four times for about 100 damage or so. As for the actual strategy, assuming that you have a weapon with the Blessed Weapon property on it, you can get into Burst Mode and do some pretty good damage against the Guardians and then use Edge and Nell to wipe them out. Once they're out of the way, focus your attacks on the Servant. You'll be done with this pretty easy boss battle in no time at all. Finally, the moment you've been waiting for: The one, the only, Uroborus!! Uroborus -The Mediator of Dimensions. An absolute existence, like god. Found In: D.D. Stats: N/A Trait: Immune to EX and Poison Attacks, Resistant to Fist and Staff Attacks Item Drop: None ToT: None Recommended Blades: Edge (any) Nell (any) Note: Before entering this battle, you'll end up at Iris' Workshop. Feel free to change your Blades here if you didn't change them before. As always, it helps to have Blessed Weapon! In addition, using Luplus with Edge will NOT remove Uroborus' Blaze and Cursed Breath attacks! So, after all of that fighting and narrowly surviving, you're here, facing the final boss, Uroborus. Now, in true final boss fashion, it has a few attacks up its sleeve and about half of those are harmless, yet annoying. The first of his attacks is Blaze, which hits the whole party for minor damage and adds itself to the Turn Gauge. The next attack is Dimension Scythe, which hits the whole party for about 50 damage or so. It also can use Cursed Breath, which is an Ice Element attack that hits the whole party for minor damage as well, adding itself to the Turn Gauge. There is also Plasma Shutter, a pretty strong Lightning element attack that does about 80 - 100 damage to a single party member. This is the only attack that you can remove from the Turn Gauge using Time Refresh. The next attack that he has is Ancient Mist, an attack that does no damage, but can remove your status buffs (if any). During the beginning of the battle, you won't be able to seriously hurt him due to his resistance to both physical and magical attacks, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try. After taking a good bit of damage, he'll use World's End and then follow it up with Beginning's End, a pretty strong attack that hits the whole party for about 120+ damage. At this point, World's End will activate, removing his Physical and Magical attack resistance. You'll know that it's happening because the battle background will change to red. Now, you can stack on the damage and don't hold back with your strongest and best attacks, using this time to really hurt him before World's End wears off. He also will use a new attack called Abysmal Fist, where he hits one character for about 150 damage. When World's End is over with, he'll use an attack known as Pure Incarnation, which will hit the whole party multiple times for quite a bit of damage. Make sure to stay healed and you may have to cycle through this whole process two or three times, depending on your levels. Once the battle is over, sit back and enjoy the ending.
