=============================================================================== Castlevania: Curse of Darkness MATERIAL COLLECTION GUIDE =============================================================================== by bz_adams submitted Mar 20 2011 Copyright 2011 Aaron Adams ver 1.0 ------------------------------ -CONTENTS- 1.> Version History 2.> Intro 3.> Format and Definitions 4.> Materials Checklist 5.> Appendix 6.> Credits 7.> Legal / Disclaimer 8.> Contact 9.> End ------------------------------ -VERSION HISTORY- -Ver 1.0: Initial Writeup -Ver 1.1: First Revision (Item Locations Added) ------------------------------ -INTRO- The purpose of this guide is very simple: to provide the exact number of each material that must be collected in order for the player to craft every item in the game. I'm an obsessive person by nature. As a result, I tend to go way overboard on farming - especially in a game like Curse of Darkness. I insist on collecting more of a given material than I'm ever likely to need, "just to be safe;" by the end of the game, I'm likely to have twice as many materials as I'll ever actually use. So I started thinking: wouldn't it be nice if there was a guide that told me exactly how many items of each type I needed to make everything in the game, so that I knew when it was okay to stop farming? I couldn't find one anywhere, so I went ahead and made one. :D The primary function of this guide is to take the guesswork out of farming. For more information on how to acquire the items listed below, you'll need to consult another guide. Enjoy! ------------------------------ -FORMAT AND DEFINITIONS- The quantities listed for each item below are for the *MINIMUM* number of materials necessary to craft every item in the game. In other words: if a given weapon or piece of armor is consumed in the creation of another, it isn't assumed that you'll replace the first. For example: this guide does not assume that you'll craft a second Chauve-Souris to replace the one that you use to create Death's Scythe. If you do want to replace some of the more powerful items that are consumed in crafting, check the Appendix for the total number of extra resources that you'll need. The guide below makes a note of the number of items of each type that are found in chests, so that you know how many of each type of item you don't need to farm. Note, however, that some of the chests are found fairly late in the game - meaning that it may be possible to make the items sooner if you don't wait for the chests. Again: some crafted items may be available earlier in the game if you farm the full amount listed as the TOTAL. The format for each entry is as follows: [ ] NAME TOTAL: # (The total quantity needed; the sum of FOUND and FARMED items) FOUND: # (The number of items that drop from chests, and which therefore need not be farmed) FARMED: # (The number of items that must be stolen or farmed from enemies) AVAILABLE: The enemy/enemies that the item can be acquired from. Marked (C) for Common, (R) for Rare, or (S) for Stolen NOTES: (Additional information, where applicable) ------------------------------ -MATERIALS CHECKLIST- [ ] ADAMANTINE TOTAL: 8 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 7 AVAILABLE: Final Guard (C) [ ] ALUMINUM TOTAL: 13 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 12 AVAILABLE: Orc (C), Armor Knight (C), Lesser Demon (C) [ ] ANCIENT MEMORY TOTAL: 31 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 31 AVAILABLE: Blaze Master (C), Merman (C), Fishman (C), Sniper Orc (C) [ ] ANGEL HALO TOTAL: 4 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 3 AVAILABLE: Anduscias (R) [ ] AQUAMARINE TOTAL: 4 FOUND: 2 FARMED: 2 AVAILABLE: Fishman (S) NOTES: I usually farm dozens of these, since they're so easy to steal. I can't believe that you only need to steal 2! [ ] BEELZEBUB'S SEAL TOTAL: 2 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 2 AVAILABLE: Unicorn (S) [ ] BRONZE TOTAL: 125 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 125 AVAILABLE: Skeleton (C) NOTES: You can reduce the number of these materials needed by purchasing basic items at the shop. [ ] CARBON STEEL TOTAL: 7 FOUND: 2 FARMED: 5 AVAILABLE: Sniper Orc (R), Great Armor (S) NOTES: Stealing these from Great Armors is by far the easier way to acquire them. Don't bother farming Sniper Orcs for them unless going to a lot of extra work for the sake of getting them a tiny bit earlier is worth it to you. [ ] CERAMICS TOTAL: 8 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 8 AVAILABLE: Rapid Sniper (C), Skeleton Trooper (C) [ ] CEREMONIAL TOOL TOTAL: 14 FOUND: 2 FARMED: 12 AVAILABLE: Blaze Master (S), Vassage (S) NOTES: Don't bother stealing more than a handful of these from Skeleton Blazes. They're much easier to steal from Vassagos, which appear not long after. [ ] DAMASCUS STEEL TOTAL: 6 FOUND: 2 FARMED: 4 AVAILABLE: Iron Gladiator (S) NOTES: Dismiss your I.D. while stealing these to make the job much easier. [ ] DARK CRYSTAL TOTAL: 5 FOUND: 2 FARMED: 3 AVAILABLE: Evil Core (S) NOTES: These are easy enough to collect that you might as well steal all 5 of them as soon as Legion's lair becomes available. I'd recommend heading there as soon as you get the Demon I.D., as DARK CRYSTALs should be your only missing item for both Muramasa and the Chauve-Souris (if you stole Isaac's Devil's Vein). [ ] DARK MATTER TOTAL: 2 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 1 AVAILABLE: Blaze Phantom (S) [ ] DEATH'S PULSE TOTAL: 1 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 1 AVAILABLE: Death (S) [ ] DEVIL IRON TOTAL: 1 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 1 AVAILABLE: Minotaurus (S) [ ] DEVIL'S VEIN TOTAL: 1 FOUND: 1* FARMED: 1* AVAILABLE: Isaac - First Encounter (S) NOTES: Two of these are available, since the game assumes that you'll want to reforge the Chauve-Souris. Even if you're not planning to, you might want to steal the one from Isaac - it's easy, and it lets you get the Chauve-Souris much earlier. [ ] DRAGON SCALE TOTAL: 4 FOUND: 2 FARMED: 2 AVAILABLE: Skeleton Rider (S) [ ] ETHER TOTAL: 14 FOUND: 4 FARMED: 10 AVAILABLE: Lizard Shaman (S) [ ] FRENZY OF WIND TOTAL: 4 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 3 AVAILABLE: Jin (S) [ ] FORGOTTEN MEMORY TOTAL: 3 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 2 AVAILABLE: Unicorn (C), Anduscias (C) [ ] GALTITE TOTAL: 2 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 2 AVAILABLE: Crazy Armor (S), Red Ogre (S) NOTES: Not at all worth stealing from crazy armor - it can't be used to make anything until well after Red Ogres are available. [ ] HOLY MAN'S VEIN TOTAL: 4 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 3 AVAILABLE: Dead Fencer (S), Dead Baron (S) [ ] IMMORTAL FRAGMENT TOTAL: 1 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 1 AVAILABLE: Saint Germain (S) [ ] INDIGO STEEL TOTAL: 12 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 12 AVAILABLE: Wolf Skeleton (C) Lizard Shaman (C), Assassin Zombie (C), Red Ogre (C) [ ] JADE TOTAL: 2 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 2 AVAILABLE: Assassin Zombie (R) NOTES: While these become available relatively early in the game, they're not used to make anything particularly useful until much later (after the second encounter against Trevor Belmont). I strongly recommend waiting to farm them until you have ways of boosting your Luck - the drop rate is horrible. [ ] JET BLACK TOTAL: 10 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 10 AVAILABLE: Lizardman (C), Efreet (C), Cyclops (C), Cockatrice (C) NOTES: You can reduce the number of these materials needed by purchasing basic items at the shop. [ ] KNIGHT'S VEIN TOTAL: 10 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 10 AVAILABLE: Dead Fencer (C), Dead Baron (C), Phantom Sword (C), Spectral Sword (C), Bone Soldier (R) [ ] LIGHTNING STONE TOTAL: 2 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 1 AVAILABLE: Thunder Demon (S) NOTES: 1 of the 2 needed is used to make the Electric Guitar - a fairly useless novelty item. Seriously, don't bother stealing a second just for the sake of getting it as soon as possible. [ ] MIDAS' GOLD TOTAL: 2 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 2 AVAILABLE: Jin (R) NOTES: If you've farmed Miracle Eggs prior to reaching your first Jin, use your first Midas' Gold to upgrade your Clown Suit to the Prince's Clothes. This will increase your luck, making it easier to farm the second one. [ ] MIRACLE EGG TOTAL: 4 FOUND: 2 FARMED: 2 AVAILABLE: Evil Core (R) NOTES: When you're farming for Miracle Eggs, you should use the first one that drops to craft the Clown Suit / Prince's Mail. That way you'll have a higher Luck for farming the second one! [ ] ORICHALCUM TOTAL: 4 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 3 AVAILABLE: Harpy (S) [ ] PHLOGISTON TOTAL: 5 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 4 AVAILABLE: Flame Demon (S) [ ] PURPLE GLITTER TOTAL: 1 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 1 AVAILABLE: Dullahan (S) [ ] RED STEEL TOTAL: 12 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 11 AVAILABLE: Necromancer (C), Harpy (C), Armored Sprinter (C), Undead Lord (C) [ ] SPIRIT OF FUJI TOTAL: 14 FOUND: 2 FARMED: 12 AVAILABLE: Wizard (R), Dark Warlock (R), Necromancer (R), Lesser Demon (S) NOTES: While stealing these from Lesser Demons is by far the easiest way to get them, farming Wizards does allow you to get a few much earlier in the game. [ ] STEEL TOTAL: 32 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 12 AVAILABLE: Bone Soldier (C), Dark Warlock (C), Great Armor (C) [ ] SUN TEARS TOTAL: 7 FOUND: 1 FARMED: 6 AVAILABLE: Flame Demon (R), Efreet (S) NOTES: Four non-respawning Efreet appear in the Forest. Consider reloading your save if you fail to steal from them, as Sun Tears otherwise don't become readily available until quite a bit later. [ ] WHITE STEEL TOTAL: 11 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 11 AVAILABLE: Ghoul (C), White Gravial (C) [ ] WILD MEMORY TOTAL: 59 FOUND: 0 FARMED: 59 AVAILABLE: Skeleton Blaze (C), Fenrir (C), Zombie (C) NOTES: You can reduce the number of these materials needed by purchasing basic items at the shop. [ ] VAMPIRE BLOOD TOTAL: 1 FOUND: 1* FARMED: 1* AVAILABLE: Dracula - Second Form (S) NOTES: Can either be stolen from Dracula's second form, or found at the end of the Tower of Eternity. There's no reason to have more than one, so I recommend deciding ahead of time how you'd prefer to get the item. ------------------------------ -APPENDIX- A handful of fairly powerful items are consumed in crafting; as noted, the totals above do not assume that you'll be replacing any of them. For any items that you do wish to re-craft, add the materials below to the TOTALS listed in the above section. Note that this is not a collection of recipes for the items in question - rather, the entries list the total number of materials that make up any and all of the items which combine to create the finished product. For crafting recipes, please consult another guide. Some of the more common items listed below (e.g. Brass and Wild Memories) can be replaced by store-bought weapons and armor. This is not a complete list; only the items that I expect a significant portion of players to wish to recraft are listed below. CHAUVE-SOURIS -Aquamarine: 2 -Ceremonial Tool: 3 -Dark Crystal: 1 -Devil's Vein : 1 -Ether: 3 -Phlogiston: 1 -Spirit of Fuji: 3 -Steel: 1 Used In: Death's Scythe Notes: See the notes on Devil's Vein above for more info. HEIN -Aluminum: 2 -Ancient Memory: 1 -Bronze: 3 -Damascus Steel: 1 -Dark Matter: 1 -Devil Iron: 1 -Ether: 1 -Galtite: 1 -Indigo Steel: 1 -Steel: 1 -White Steel: 1 Used In: Gatling Gun Notes: Since Devil Iron is a unique item stolen from the Minotaur boss, you'll have to go through Boss Rush mode to get the second needed to replace your Hein. MORGANSTERN -Bronze: 2 -Carbon Steel: 1 -Holy Man's Vein: 1 -Wild Memory: 1 Used In: Bardiche Notes: The Morganstern and Bardiche are two of the best weapons for their point in the game. For a modest bit of extra materials, you can have both. PRINCE'S CLOTHES -Ancient Memory: 1 -Bronze: 4 -Ceremonial Tool: 1 -Midas' Gold: 1 -Miracle Egg: 1 -Steel: 2 -Sun Tears: 1 -Wild Memory: 4 Used In: Dracula's Clothes Notes: In case you want to hold on to your Luck gear after crafting Dracula's Clothes. VERSATILE SPEAR -Aquamarine: 1 -Ceremonial Tool: 2 -Ether: 2 -Phlogiston: 1 -Spirit of Fuji: 2 -Steel: 1 Used In: Chauve-Souris Notes: Even after you've got the CS, Versatile Spear can be nice to have against certain fire-weak enemies. Note that the list for the Chauve- Souris includes the mats for the Versatile Spear used in its creation; if you want to keep both items, add both totals. 7 BLADED SWORD -Ancient Memory: 1 -Beelzebub's Seal: 1 -Bronze: 14 -Ceremonial Tool: 1 -Damascus Steel: 1 -Dark Crystal: 1 -Dragon Scale: 1 -Ether 1 -Steel: 1 -Wild Memory: 2 Used In: Death's Scythe, Laser Sword Notes: Not sure why you'd want an extra one. Because it looks cool? All of the Bronze needed can be replaced with store-bought Short Swords. ------------------------------ -CREDITS- All of the calculations for this guide were done by me.
