Finale ----------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================== I. Guide Information ============================================================================== Welcome to my Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA Course Guide. I have never write any FAQ before, so this will be my very first one. I have been a fan of DDR games for a quite long time (about 7 years). I decide to write this Course Guide since I observe that there has not been any guide yet that cover deeply about the Course in the game, especially for the boss rushes. What you can find in this guide are the complete Course list, and most importantly the frequently asked questions regarding this game, especially about the Course. ============================================================================== II. Version History ============================================================================== v1.0 : Though this is the first version, I hope I have covered most of the things. If there is any newer version to be released, it must be for some additional frequently asked questions, and some corrections if someone notices any mistakes or false information in this guide. ============================================================================== III. Game Legends ============================================================================== Life bar penalty: The reduction of your life bar if you get an ALMOST or BOO. Footer: The difficulty of the song. 1 is the easiest and 10 is the hardest. Options: Song modifier. For example, Speed, Dark, Scroll, Freeze, etc. Whenever I say "Option", it must be this one, not the actual "Game Option" from the main menu. ============================================================================== IV. Game Information ============================================================================== Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA has quite many improvements from the previous serie (Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2). The most important one is that now the score is only determined by how many PERFECTs, GREATs, and OKs you get, no matter how many COMBOs you get or how many GOODs, ALMOSTs, or BOOs you have. Thus, you can still score an AA eventhough you do not get a full combo. You get half of PERFECT's score for each GREAT, while OK has equal score with PERFECT. Moreover, EXTRA STAGE is also brought back to the game, which KONAMI took away from DDR Extreme 2. Now, back to the main thing... for those of you who are new to this game, you will probably wonder what the Course is. Well, Course is a mode where you have to play a set of songs continuously, forces you to play the songs without any break at all. Obviously Course is not intended for new players. The Course itself can be played in 2 modes. The first one (or should I say the one most people would play) is Normal mode. In here your life bar will not be restored for each next song, and the life bar penalty will be bigger as you advance more. The other one is Challenge mode. This one is very hard, since you have to maintain your COMBO. You only get 4 units for the life bar, and any combo breaking (getting GOOD, ALMOST or BOO) will reduce your life bar by 1 unit. You can not restore the life bar in a song, no matter how many COMBOs you make. However, for each song advance, your life bar will be restored. In other words, you have 4 chances for each song, not for the whole course. The scoring system in Course is a little bit different from the Game Mode. In Game Mode, you get full score for PERFECT, and MARVELOUS (if you turn them on in the game option menu), while you get half score for GREAT. However, in Course, MARVELOUS is forced turned on, and you get full score only for MARVELOUS. That said, PERFECT will not worth full score anymore. Instead, it will only give 2/3 score, while GREAT worths only 1/3 score. Thus, scoring a high rank in Course is harder than in Game Mode. You can also use any option for most courses. Courses which you can not use any option are usually the special courses. I mean, if those courses are modified by some options, then there is really no point at all for playing those courses. Moreover, you can make your own course using ORDER course. You can choose up to 20 songs, with any difficulty and option. The game itself provide you 10 ORDER courses, so that you can make several of them and play them at any time you like. Well, you should make courses which are neither too easy or too hard for you :) ============================================================================== V. Course List ============================================================================== Here are the courses available in the game. Unless I put a special note on the course, then it means that you can use any option for the course. For the boss rushes, you also can not use any option. Boss rushes are meant to be the challenge for the Course of this game, so KONAMI won't allow you to clear them easily just buy turning on the "Cut" option, or any other modifier which will make them much easier. There are quite many rapid steps while freezing in DoLL, so you should watch out, and practive if you are not very familiar to this song. Stepping in wrong order just once, and you are screwed up. All of the songs have relatively low BPM, so you should focus your eyes for seeing the arrows carefully, especially for the order of the gallops. Of course again Konami disables the option preventing you to turn on the cut option, which will remove the gallops. Haha! RANDOM How to unlocked: clear 7 courses (cost: 7,000 shop points) This course consists of 5 songs which are chosen randomly by the game. Moreover, the difficulty of the songs are also chosen randomly (Difficult, Expert, or Challenge). The options for each song are also set randomly, and thus the option for the course itself is disabled. Well, you see, this course can be even more difficult than the boss rushes themselves if you are very unlucky... (e.g. getting Hidden opttion on a very slow BPM song) _______________________________________________________________________ | Song | Difficulty | Footer | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| | RANDOM | ??? | ? | | RANDOM | ??? | ? | | RANDOM | ??? | ? | | RANDOM | ??? | ? | | RANDOM | ??? | ? | |_________________________________________________|____________|________| Boss Rush episode I: How to unlocked: clear 7 courses (cost: 7,000 shop points) _______________________________________________________________________ | Song | Difficulty | Footer | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| | DYNAMITE RAVE (super euro version) | Expert | 8 | | Love is Dreaminess | Expert | 9 | | RED ZONE | Expert | 8 | | Xepher | Expert | 9 | | MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix) | Challenge | 10 | |_________________________________________________|____________|________| Special note: This is most probably the first course which contains a 10 footer song thus far (unless you got them in RANDOM course). Yeah, just look out at the last song. It is MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix) in Challenge Difficulty! Practice this song first, try to at least score 8.5 millions in Game Mode. Since this song is placed at the 5th place, just four or five consecutive BOOs can make you fail immediately. Try to not waste your stamina and concentration too much on the first 4 songs. Boss Rush episode II: How to unlocked: clear Boss Rush episode I (cost: 8,000 shop points) _______________________________________________________________________ | Song | Difficulty | Footer | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| |TRUE LOVE | Expert | 8 | |CENTAUR | Expert | 8 | |No. 13 | Expert | 9 | |The Least 100sec | Expert | 8 | |Fascination MAXX | Challenge | 10 | |_________________________________________________|____________|________| Special note: The difficulty level of this course is nearly the same with the previous one. Again, you should practice Fascination MAXX first in Game Mode. Try to play it in final stage, and survive it! The hardest part of this song could be in the nearly end where there are many fast jumps in the 400 BPM section, which really needs quite lot of stamina. Again, do not waste your energy too much for the first 4 songs. Boss Rush episode III: How to unlocked: clear Boss Rush episode II (cost: 9,000 shop points) _______________________________________________________________________ | Song | Difficulty | Footer | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| |INNOCENCE OF SILENCE | Expert | 8 | |MATSURI (J-SUMMER MIX) | Expert | 9 | |AA | Expert | 9 | |Healing-D-Vision | Expert | 10 | |CHAOS | Challenge | 10 | |_________________________________________________|____________|________| Special note: Now the boss rush is just getting much harder than before. It contains two red songs, and both are 10 footer songs! To make things even worse, the last song is CHAOS in Challenge difficulty! Okay, actually CHAOS is not really that hard, but it can really harm your eyes. Yes, playing CHAOS in speed x1 is really hard, especially for reading the arrows. I myself usually play this song in speed x2 or x3. The best method for solving this problem is to memorize them. Try to at least memorize the steps which arrows are the hardest to read. Try to reserve stamina on Healing-D-Vision, so that you can do CHAOS much better. Boss Rush episode IV: How to unlocked: clear Boss Rush episode III (cost: 10,000 shop points) _______________________________________________________________________ | Song | Difficulty | Footer | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| |MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix) | Expert | 10 | |CHAOS | Expert | 10 | |Fascination MAXX | Expert | 10 | |Xepher | Challenge | 10 | |Healing-D-Vision | Challenge | 10 | |Fascination -eternal love mix- | Challenge | 10 | |_________________________________________________|____________|________| Finally, we have arrived to the ultimate and hardest course in this game, and most probably the hardest official course in DDR history. This course consists of 6 songs, and all of them are 10 footer songs. The first 3 songs are all the final songs from the previous boss rushes, in Expert difficulty. The last 3 songs are the remaining 10 footer difficulty songs in Challenge difficulty. And let's see what we have for the final song. It is Fascination -eternal love mix-, the hardest song that Konami ever released until DDR SuperNOVA. This song has really lots of jumps, and many of the jumps have a very short interval between them (that is, 1/4th beat arrows in 400 BPM). Even memorizing the step charts won't help you much to master this song. You will need extraordinary stamina, and a very effective body movement. Otherwise you won't survive the last 400 BPM section part where most of the jumps are thrown away in 1/4th beat arrows. Since all of the other songs are also difficult (of course they are, since they are 10 footer songs after all), you should practice them as well. You will need incredibly good endurance to survive this course. Good luck! ============================================================================== VI. Frequently Asked Questions ============================================================================== Here are some questions regarding this game that you might ask. Please read through them, since it might prove useful for you. Q: If I complete a course in both Normal and Challenge mode, does it count as 2 courses or only 1 course for course unlocking requirement? A: It counts only as clearing 1 course. Q: Does clearing an "Order" course count toward clearing courses for unlocking requirement? A: No. Otherwise you could just set 1 song only in an "Order" course and clear it easily :P Q: Is it possible to play songs which are not unlocked yet from "Random" or "Random Songs" courses? A: No. Q: Can I just set the game over to "End of Music" instead of "Arcade" in the game options so that I can clear a course easily? A. Nope. Game over setting doesn't affect the entire Advanced Mode. Q: There are some songs that appear in the shop menu, but I can't purchase it yet. It says "coming soon". What does that suppose to mean? A: Those are the songs that you have played yet but you haven't unlocked it yet. It is either you have played it in Stellar Master Mode or in a course. Q: You say "most favorite songs" in the "PLAYER'S BEST 1-4" and "PLAYER'S BEST LONG" courses. What does it mean actually? A: It means the songs you have played most frequently in either Stellar Master Mode, Game Mode or Advanced Mode. Q: What do you know about the life bar penalty? A: Frankly speaking, I do not have the exact formula. However, the only thing I can conclude is that in the Course, the penalty is getting bigger and bigger for each higher stage, up to 8 units for 1 BOO (ALMOST's penalty is half of that BOO'S). The initial penalty itself (1st stage's penalty) somehow varies for each song. For example, DoLL's initial penalty is 3 units, and the penalty increases about 1 unit for each higher stage. The 6th stage's penalty reaches 8 units, and thus the 7th stage's penalty, 8th stage's penalty and so on are all the same at 8 units. Q: Then, how does the game level affect the life bar penalty? A: Again, there is no exact formula, since the penalty itself varies for each song. I just tested it with Fascination -eternal love mix-. You shuold conclude by yourself how the game level affects the penalty. Here is the table, showing how many BOOs required to make you fail, starting at half-full bar (initial condition). _______________________________________________ |\ stage | | | | | --------------- | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | | game level \| | | | |_________________|_________|_________|_________| | 1 (EASIEST) | 22 BOOs | 20 BOOs | 17 BOOs | | 4 (MEDIUM) | 17 BOOs | 13 BOOs | 12 BOOs | | 8 (HARDEST) | 10 BOOs | 10 BOOs | 9 BOOs | |_________________|_________|_________|_________| Q: Why are there some songs that are different from the Game Mode if they are opened in Edit Mode? A: Well, it seems that the Edit Mode itself somehow sucks. It can not combine any 1/4th, 1/8th, or 1/16th beat arrows with 1/12th beat arrows. Thus, some songs that use those combined arrows such as CHAOS, Fascination MAXX, etc seem to miss some arrows when opened in Edit Mode. Q: Can you explain me about the song properties (STREAM, VOLTAGE, AIR, FREEZE, CHAOS)? A: Honestly, I am not sure whether what I am going to say is entirely or not, since the game itself never tell us anything about it. You should try a different source if you doubt me. I believe - STREAM represents the number of steps in the song. The more the steps a song has, the higher STREAM it will have. 600 steps are usually enough to bring STREAM to its highest level. - VOLTAGE represents how many rapid steps you have to do, and how rapid they are. Just several 1/16th beat arrows in 300+ BPM speed will surely raise the VOLTAGE level to a quite high level. - AIR represents how many jumps you have to do. This clearly indicates the number of double steps a song has. - FREEZE represents how long you have to stick one of your legs or probably both legs in the pad. It doesn't matter how many OKs they consist of. The FREEZE level is only affected by the total length of freeze arrows the song has. - CHAOS represents the disorder level of the steps. I shall admit that explaining this part will be very hard, since I even have to verify these things with Edit Mode. First of all, the CHAOS level itself pretty much depends on the song's speed's behaviour. A song with dynamic BPM will generally have higher CHAOS level. I have done some researches in Edit Mode, using MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix). I need about 2000 random 1/16th beat arrows to bring the CHAOS level high enough to reach the letter "O" in the properties graphic, but still do not manage to reacg the maximum level. On the other hand, using Fascination MAXX, I only need about 1100 random 1/16th beat arrows to maximize the CHAOS level. Moreover, using Fascination -eternal love mix-, I only need even fewer arrows, that is, about 800 random 1/16th beat arrows to maximize the CHAOS level. Of course, using CHAOS, I need the least number of arrows, that is, about 450 random 1/16th beat arrows to maximize the CHAOS level. Based on these data, I conclude that the more BPM changes a song has, the easier the CHAOS level will raise if it is filled with some rapid arrows (1/16th or 1/24th beat arrows). I also find that unless the song's speed is very high (350+ BPM), filling with 1/8th beat arrows will barely increase the CHAOS level, no matter how many the arrows are. Q: Is it possible to get a grade lower than A eventhough I do a full combo? A: Yes, it is. If you get GREATs more than 38% of total steps, you will get a B rank (circled, indicating that it is still a full combo), or maybe even lower rank (C or D), depends on how many GREATs you get. Q: I really want to see Boss Rush episode II, III, and IV. Is there any other way to unlock them other that clearing the previous episode? A: Unless you are using some cheat devices, unfortunately, there is no other way. Q: Then, can you give me some advices to clear the boss rushes? A: - Preserve your stamina and concentration. Do not let the preliminary songs make you exhausted. Most people fail during the final song (the boss song), so do not get too carried away too early. - Reduce the game level to 1 (EASIEST). It will reduced the life bar penalty by about 25% from the MEDIUM level. - Practive the songs! If you can't even score them an A in Game Mode, then just forget the boss rushes. - If everything else fails, you can try to clear them using a controller. I know that not all people are adept with this one, but controller is much easier to learn and use. Once you have mastered in using controller, stamina will no longer be a problem, and you can clear any boss songs quite easily. Of course, I won't recommend you to do this one if you despise people using controller for this game. But if you are really eager to clear the boss rushes... Q: I have too many shop points unspent. Is there anything I can do to spend them so that they do not remain useless? A: Unfortunately, no. Unlike DDR Extreme 2, the character's costume here is quite cheap. I myself only play this game for about 2 months, and have about 800,000 shop points unused... Q: Is there any maximum point for the song's property graph? A: Yes, it is. Fascination MAXX Challenge difficulty has nearly maximum VOLTAGE and STREAM level, while MAx 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix) Difficult difficulty has the maximum AIR level, and CHAOS Challenge difficulty has the nearly maximum CHAOS level. Shivers most probably has the highest FREEZE level among all songs, but the FREEZE level is still far away from the maximum level. Actually, I have made a random song in Edit Mode with maximum level for all properties (STREAM, VOLTAGE, AIR, FREEZE, CHAOS). You should see it by yourself. Here it is: http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/926/maximumsonghp7.jpg Q: What do you think about this game's Course compared to DDR Extreme 2's course? A: Well, you see, the mechanism is pretty much the same. Both have Normal and Challenge mode. Both also force turn on the MARVELOUS. The only main difference is that in DDR Extreme 2, each course can be played either in Normal or Difficult difficulty, while in DDR SuperNOVA, you can only play a course in a specific difficulty. However, the overall difficulty level of DDR SuperNOVA's Course is pretty much harder than DDR Extreme 2's Course. You can directly see it right through the hardest course both games could over. ULTIMATE 12 (DDR Extreme 2's hardest course) only has Paranoia SURVIVOR MAX Heavy difficulty for the final song, which is obviously not the hardest song in the game (they should give it in Challenge difficulty instead), while Boss Rush episode IV has Fascination -eternal love mix- Challenge difficulty, which is the hardest song in the game, and even harder than Paranoia SURVIVOR MAX Challenge difficulty itself. Though ULTIMATE 12 consists of 12 songs, which will consume more time to clear, but all of the songs are much easier than the 6 ten footer songs which Boss Rush episode IV can give... Q: I have never seen an AAA rank yet. Can you show me some? A: Well, I do have some screenshots, but too bad most of them are in Basic difficulty. However, one thing that I can tell you is that whenever you got an AAA rank, the commentator will say "Can I call you a dance master?". Here is the screenshot: http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/5905/aaasy9.jpg Q: I am just curious... What are your favorite songs? A: Well, it is either DoLL or Xepher. Fascination -eternal love mix- also comes close. Of course, they are just my personal favorites. Everyone's else could be different. Q: What course do you usually play? A: Well, after clearing boss rushes, I usually play my own ordered courses. For Normal mode, I usually play ORDER 1 _________________________________________________________________________ | Song | Difficulty | Footer | Options | |---------------------------------------|---------------------|-----------| | Fascination -eternal love mix- | Challenge | 10 | none | | MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix) | Challenge | 10 | x1.5 | | Fascination MAXX | Challenge | 10 |x1.5, Dark | | Healing-D-Vision | Challenge | 10 |x1.5, Flat | | Xepher | Challenge | 10 |x3, Reverse| | CHAOS | Challenge | 10 | x3, Dark | |_______________________________________|____________|________|___________| However, for Challenge mode, I am not good enough to play such course. Instead, I usually play ORDER 2 _________________________________________________________________________ | Song | Difficulty | Footer | Options | |---------------------------------------|---------------------|-----------| | MATSURI (J-SUMMER MIX) | Expert | 9 | x3 | | DoLL | Challenge | 9 | x3 | | Xepher | Challenge | 10 | x3 | | CHAOS | Challenge | 10 | x3 | |_______________________________________|____________|________|___________| Yeah, all songs are in x3 :P Q: How good are you in this game? A: Well, honestly, I am not very excellent as a dancer, My best achievement is only scoring 8.5 millions for Fascination -eternal love mix- Challenge difficulty and get AA for Xepher Challenge difficulty. Please do not email me if you just want to ask them. Those questions are Q: Your guide sucks. It is so short and not helpful. Why did you even write this guide? A: Well, I have done my best to cover most things that the other guides and the board haven't covered. If you think my guide sucks, then so be it. Why don't you write a guide on your own then? Q: (Questions that have been covered in the guide) A: Please do not do that. At least try to respect me by reading through the whole guide first before asking question. Last but not least, thanks to KONAMI for making such great and challenging game. Thanks to GameFAQs for hosting this guide. I hope my guide could prove useful to the reader :)
