INTRODUCTION ****************************************************************************** Hey, everybody everybody! Welcome to my FAQ/Walkthrough for DDR SuperNOVA, the version for the North American PS2. In the 2006 version of the famed Dance Dance Revolution series, we finally get a version based very closely on its arcade counterpart. In this FAQ, you'll find information on all the game's songs, game modes, how to play, and how to get through the new Stellar Master Mode. Keep practicing, I know you can do it! ****************************************************************************** 2. FAQ ****************************************************************************** Q: What is Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA? A: DDR SuperNOVA is Konami's 2006 edition of their famed DDR series, a companion to the arcade release of the same name in the same year. Q: How does one play Dance Dance Revolution games? A: It's actually pretty simple. Your "controller" has four directions: left, down, up, and right, which are shown at the top of your play screen. You select a song. As the song plays, arrows will start scrolling up to your top line. When an arrow scrolling up reaches the line of arrows at the top, you must "step" on the direction matching that arrow's direction. If two arrows come up at once, you must press both at once. If a green "freeze" arrow appears, you must hold that step at the beginning until the freeze arrow ends. Q: How many songs in this mix? A: 74, same amount as DDR Extreme 2. 32 are open by default, and the other 42 you need to unlock. Q: Are there any repeats from old mixes in this game? A: Not a one. For some this is a blessing. For the whiners who want to play DAIKENKAI or SAKURA, just get the game that has those songs. Q: How do I unlock new songs? A: The main means of unlocking songs is through Stellar Master Mode. Starting at the UGUISU Stellar Joint, getting the VIP Card from the first Showdown will get you all the songs at that Stellar Joint. There are also other methods, particularly for boss songs, that are explained in their respective sections. If you cannot manage any of those, there is a way to unlock just about everything through long hours of play time. You may need 60 hours of play time to get them. Q: Where's Link Mode? I wanna link with the arcade machine! A: We don't know! It was in the instruction booklet, and hyped on the trailer, but it's absent in the game. It's possible Konami pulled it at the last moment, perhaps due to a lack of SuperNOVA cabinets being able to support PS2 memory cards, or maybe due to some other reason. Q: Is the EyeToy required to play? A: No. All there is to play is Hands & Feet Mode, which you can activate in "Select a Style" if the EyeToy is hooked up. All songs have the same difficulties as they did for regular Single. Q: Is this just like DDR SuperNOVA in the arcades? I heard there were 300 songs! A: Due to matters of space, and the fact that Konami, being a business, wants to maximize their return and not put all their eggs in one basket, we're given a selection of music that was featured in the arcade game, and a few songs that aren't. Q: Where's Battle Mode? I can't select it from Game Mode! A: Battle Mode has been moved to the Advanced Mode section. You can also find all the other features of Advanced Mode that you did in DDR Extreme 2. Q: I'm completing songs in Stellar Master Mode! Why isn't it giving me credit for these trials? A: Because you're not playing on the right difficulty, or you have some Options turned on. On the right side of the text for the trials are difficulties that are allowed for that trial (sometimes it's just Beginner), and whether Options are allowed or not (that includes any arrow skin besides Normal/Vivid). Q: Who is NAOKI? A: Naoki Maeda has been with Konami for many years. He is the leader of Konami AM Internal Sound Team, who are in charge of coming up with songs for each new DDR release. He's responsible for many songs throughout DDR-dom, under lots of artist names. His styles run several levels, but seem to have distilled recently down to euro beat and euro trance. His artist names include: Omega (the symbol), 100-200-400, 1479, 180, 190, 190', 200, 270, 290, 8 bit, B3-PROJECT, BIG-O, BLUE DESTROYERS, Crystal Aliens, DANDY MINIERO, d-complex, DJ KAZU, DE-SIRE, DE-STRAD, DIVAS, DR. VIBE, FACTOR-X, FIXX, KTz, Luv UNLIMITED, mitsu-O!, MR. DOG, MUSTACHE MEN, N&S, N.M.R, NM, NO.9, NW260, RE-VENGE, RevenG, Stone Bros., TailBros, THE FINAL BAND, THE SURRENDERS, UZI-LAY, Z, ZZ. Q: What is Dancemania? A: A rather large series of albums, developed by Toshiba-EMI, which showcase a lot of dance music from artists all over the world. Konami's BEMANI studio has a long-standing partnership, where DDR gets Dancemania licenses (for relatively cheap) while DDR plugs Dancemania in its games. There are a few DM releases in this mix. Q: What is beatmania? A: Developed almost concurrently with DDR, BM is a series of games where you use your fingers instead of your feet. You have a set of keys, like a piano, and you have to tap those to create the music (each key tap adds music to the playing score). Also, you have a turntable to "scratch", which also adds sound. The original beatmania had 5 keys, beatmania IIDX has 7 keys (and is the only one of the series still coming out with new mixes), and beatmania III has 5 keys and a foot pedal. I refer to several songs as being "from beatmania". If you want to try some of these songs in their original form, pick up the US release of beatmania and support it! ^_^ Q: What are Guitar Freaks and Drummania? A: These ongoing series are favorites from BEMANI. Guitar Freaks uses a guitar with three neck buttons and a "pick", which allows you to insert music into the song. Drummania is similar, using a drum set. A few mixes into the series, BEMANI got the wise idea of combining the two series, giving each mix the same list, and allowing the machines to link up. Q: What is Dance ManiaX? A: This is a short-lived series that was made to showcase more Dancemania tunes, as well as a bunch of Konami Originals. It's played with light beams, and blocking them in time with the music. Q: What is pop'n music? A: This is a currently ongoing BEMANI series that is similar to beatmania, only it just involves a bunch of colored buttons. It has a more cartoonish look to it than other BEMANI series, and many of the songs are happy songs, or songs from popular anime. Q: What is Mambo A Go Go? A: A one-shot experimental music game from BEMANI. This one involved three conga drums, and is played much as you'd expect. Q: What is Para Para Paradise? A: Another short-lived series. This one placed you on this mini-stage and had you move your hands around to block sensor beams, similar to actual para para routines. The game was HEAVILY euro beat. Q: I think a genre you have listed is incorrect. A: Tell me what you think it should be, but present a good case, because I've asked a lot of people about this subject. However, if you're disputing a genre that has a star (*) after it, then I won't bother, because those are the official genres as Konami states. ****************************************************************************** 3. How to Dance = ================== Selecting Game Mode will put you in the standard DDR setup. --- Select Your Style Single Mode: This is a 1-player mode using the pad you used to start the game. A second player may jump in at any time by pressing START. Versus Mode: This is a 2-player mode where each player uses a pad. Double Mode: This is a 1-player mode where the player uses both pads. Every song has different steps for Double Mode than Single. Hands & Feet: This is a 1-player mode that appears only when you have an EyeToy plugged in. --- Select Difficulty Tutorial: Select this to get coached on how to play DDR. Easy: An easy set of songs. Medium: An middle-road difficulty set of songs. Difficult: Mostly hard songs. All Music: Not only will this give you all available songs, but you'll also be in "Event Mode", as in you'll go back to the song list if you fail or if you finish your set. In other modes, you go back to the title screen after failing of finishing. Note that picking difficulty won't restrict you to a certain step difficulty; you'll only be restricted in which songs you can play. The only true difference in game play is which Extra Stage you'll get if you earn it. There really is NO PATTERN to the set of songs they pull up in Easy, Medium, and Difficult. Well, there may be, but it's more complex than I'm willing to figure out. If you have a specific song in mind, just pull up All Music. --- Select Music Use Left and Right to switch songs. Tap Up or Down to change the difficulty. Press X or Circle to select. Press Start to access the Quick Menu. From here you can change the sorting of the list, save your progress, or check your records in one list. Changing the sorting will change it from the default "by color" setup to an alphabetical list where you can pick the letter, to by BPM from slowest to fastest, to by step difficulty, based on the current difficulty you have selected, and your "favorites", which is measured by the total score from all your plays of the song divided by the number of the difficulty each time you played. Difficulties: Beginner (BEG): Almost all songs are 1-footers. Don't play this for too long if you wish to get better. Basic (BAS): Most songs range from 2 to 5 feet. This is pretty simple if you're getting used to DDR. Difficult (DIF): Most songs range from 4 to 7 feet. Largely, you'll find that steps reflect how the music goes, as opposed to just being on the beat. Expert (EXP): Most songs range from 6 to 10 feet. These are the tough ones where they focus on two things: matching the song's notes exactly, and/or kicking up the difficulty to give you pains. Challenge (CHA): A special "second Expert" difficulty. Only certain songs have this difficulty, some as the only difficulty. At the left side of the screen, you'll see the BPM for the song, which may be dynamic, and the "Groove Radar", which gives a detailed look at the song. Groove Radar: This is a graphical representation of the difficulty of the song. It's broken down into five attributes: - Stream: More or less the overall number of steps. - Voltage: How many steps are sandwiched into how much time. Higher voltage means more steps in less time. - Air: The overall number of double steps (time spent in the air). - Freeze: The overall number and length of freeze arrows. - Chaos: The number of weird steps (not straight 1/4 and 1/8, or steps that force you turn as you step). If you can't figure out what song you want, you can select ROULETTE. This will start the song list rolling. Press X to stop it. It's tough to get it to stop on a song you want, though. Once your song's picked, you can still adjust the difficulty. Also, you can select RANDOM. This will automatically pick a random song at the current difficulty. You will not be able to adjust anything once you hit the RANDOM button. Furthermore, select EDIT DATA to pick any saved edits you have to play with. --- Speed: This is the speed of the arrows on the screen. It doesn't affect the speed of the song, just the arrows. Boost: If turned on, the arrows will gradually speed up as they move on the game screen. Appearance: "Visible" is the normal setting. If "Hidden" is on, the arrows will vanish about half-way. If "Sudden" is on, the arrows will appear about half-way. If "Stealth" is on, you won't see the arrows at all. Turn: "Off" is normal. "Mirror" rotates all arrows 180 degrees. "Left" rotates them 90 degrees to the left. "Right" in the other direction. "Shuffle" specifically picks two sets of arrows and reverses their roles, giving a new somewhat random selection that doesn't fall under Mirror, Left, or Right. Dark: Turning this on will remove the Step Zone from the screen. Scroll: "Standard" is normal bottom to top scrolling. "Reverse" is, oddly enough, scrolling from top to bottom. Arrow: "Vivid" is the normal setup. "Note" (also known as Solo) gives you different colors for different types of notes (1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc). "Rainbow" is similar to Note, only with brighter colors. "Flat" gives you all arrows the same color. Cut: Turning this on will remove all non-quarter notes from the song. It won't give you a good chance for a high score, though. Freeze Arrow: You can turn the Freeze Arrows off. Jump: Turning this to "Off 1" will make all jumps into single steps. Turning this to "Off 2" will remove jumps entirely. Character: "Random" is default, but you can select any random male or female, or any of the eight characters specifically: Afro, Emi, Rage, Jenny, Baby-Lon, Robo-Zukin, Gus, or Ruby. There are also additional characters to unlock (well, one, who has different colored outfits) Stage: Select which of the multi-colored 3D stages you want your character to dance in. --- Are You Ready? The main field consists of the arrows and the Step Zone, which is a line of arrows on the screen. As the song plays, arrows will begin scrolling along the screen. As the arrows reach the Step Zone, you need to step on those arrows. If you see a green Freeze Arrow, you need to step on that arrow and hold it until the Freeze Arrow ends (you don't need to remove your foot when it ends, just stay on it until it ends, and move your foot at your leisure). On the top of the screen is the Dance Meter. It starts about half full. As you step properly, it'll fill more. If you misstep, your Dance Meter will start emptying. If it empties completely, game over. On the bottom of the screen is the difficulty (in case you forgot), and your score as it tallies up. Also in the middle of the screen, you'll see words pop up as you step: MARVELOUS: You stepped precisely on the arrow. This needs to be turned on in the Options to see in Game Mode, but is automatically on in Advanced and Training Mode. For Game Mode, it's ranked no better than a PERFECT. PERFECT: You stepped more or less precisely on the arrow. Combo continues, the dance meter increases, and you get the maximum possible score from that step. GREAT: You just about stepped on the arrow. Combo continues, the dance meter increases, and you get half the maximum possible score for the step. GOOD: You're off on the step by a bit. Combo stops, but the dance meter doesn't change. You get no points. ALMOST: You're off on the step by quite a bit. Combo stops, and your dance meter decreases. You get no points. BOO: You completely missed the step. Combo stops, and your dance meter decreases. You get no points. OK!: You stepped on the whole Freeze Arrow. You get the normal maximum score for a step. NG: You stepped off the Freeze Arrow before it ended. Combo continues, but your Dance Meter will decrease. You get no points. Also marked on the screen is your combo, which is how many PERFECTS and GREATS you have in a row. The announcer will tell you when you hit 100 combo, 200, etc. --- Evaluation Once you complete the song, you'll see an Evaluation Screen. You'll receive a letter grade, a tally on how many of each step you got, your maximum combo, and your score. Scoring is measured by the following algorithm: X = The total number of standard steps (double steps count as one) + (2 * the total number of Freeze Arrows) Y = 10,000,000 / X Each PERFECT and OK is worth Y points. Each GREAT is worth Y/2 points. All other types of steps are worth no points. So, your maximum possible score is 10 million. The grades are AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, and E. AAA = 10 million AA = 9.5 million A = 8.1 million B = 6.7 million C = 5.3 million D = Any score lower E = Failed song --- Extra Stage If you played your last song on Expert or Challenge difficulty and you got at least a AA on it, you'll access the Extra Stage. Here, you can select a fourth song to play. Your Extra Stage must be played on Expert. The song will be played with the options x1.5, Reverse, and Rainbow Arrow turned on. Your Dance Meter is special here, too. Instead of a normal Dance Meter, you'll have a No Recovery Dance Meter, which will start completely full. If you misstep, the Dance Meter will go down, and you cannot increase it back up. Depending on which difficulty you selected at the beginning, you'll also get a boss song that you can play, appearing red on the song list: Easy: MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix) Medium: Healing-D-Vision Difficult: Fascination MAXX All Music: Fascination -eternal love mix- --- One More Extra Stage If you select a red song for your Extra Stage and pass it, you'll be allowed to play a fifth song. This song will be played on Rainbow Arrow and with one tick on the Challenge bar, meaning one misstep is a failure. Available will be "CHAOS" for select. --- EyeToy Play Plug an EyeToy into one of the USB ports, then fire up Free Play Mode. The game will ask if you wish to use the EyeToy, then give you the style. It will give you the additional style select of "Hands & Feet". After selecting that, you'll go to the song select screen. You'll notice there are additional markers on the difficulties. Next to every difficulty is a set of handprints. These are how difficult the hand motions are for this song, on a level of one to two. Also available is a special "Hands & Feet" step difficulty which focuses the steps so they compliment the hand motions. As you play, you'll have an image of what the EyeToy sees transposed onto the screen. You need to move the image of yourself onto hand prints when they scroll up to the Step Zone. In addition, if you wish, you can just select the usual Single, Versus, or Double while using the EyeToy and you get the same "Watch Me Dance" from Extreme USA. Added to the "Quick Menu" (START button) is the selection of "Camera", where you can check what the camera's seeing. =================================== 3D. Dancing Tips for the Beginner = =================================== KEEP PRACTICING! So, you've just got into DDR, eh? Good for you! You've become a part of a cult sensation that still holds tons of respect in arcades across the country! This game will probably seem quite overwhelming to you at first, especially if you watch people play it and watch them do 9-footers. Don't sweat it. You CAN be as good as them with the proper practice and effort. If you really want to get into this, definitely use the Official DDR Pad. There's no PS2 controller to use in the arcades, so learn the pad nice and early. Most game stores have a few of these tucked away (possibly more, if Konami's hyping this game like they should). If you're truly a beginner, you may just want to start with a nice cheap pad. That way, if you find it's not for you, you're not out a huge investment. So, to begin, use the Tutorial the game provides you. It will walk you through the basics and coach you to be a better dancer. Here are some tips I can give you as a beginner: 1. Get a good feeling for the beat. People who have performed with music have an advantage. People in marching band have a serious advantage. ~_^ You'll be stepping to the beat in these early stages, so get used to it now. 2. Now that you have the beat, you must "find the arrows". Yeah, sure. I know they're right there in front of you, to your sides, and behind you, but can you hit them without looking? Early on, you'll find that's your biggest problem: taking a step and not landing on the arrow. If you have to look, look, but that tactic won't last forever, so before a song takes off, take some cursory steps to make sure you're hitting arrows. 3. Keep your center. Especially on cheap pads with no definition, you'll find yourself often taking leave of the center of the pad as you continue stepping. If there's a break in the song, look down to make sure you're in the center. 4. Use the balls of your feet. You may notice, after some days of a lot of playing, that your ankles will start hurting. That's normal, and it's happened to most everyone I know that DDRs. This is your feet telling you to not step with your heels, but with the front of the foot. Get into that habit. 5. Now that you have these basics, head into Beginner Mode and start tackling songs. In particular, get used to the speed of the songs, as well as the speeding-up, slowing-down, and stopping some songs do. When that just gets too easy, take a deep breath and head into the real DDR world with Basic Mode. Try to keep your songs at three feet or below, but don't be afraid to venture out into the great unknown. ======================================= 3E. Dancing Tips for the Intermediate = ======================================= KEEP PRACTICING! Well, you're definitely not a n00b anymore (pardon my French). You're at the point where you wouldn't completely humiliate yourself at the arcades, but you probably won't impress many people there. In fact, you may just bore them with your simple steps. It's time to go to the next level. At this point in your career, it's time to consider a new pad. For me, this meant going to redoctane.com and ordering their standard soft pad. This pad has a soft bottom which won't slip or bunch up as much. It's still not a serious pad, but you could do worse with fifty bucks. So, first tip is to KNOW THE SONGS. You don't necessarily need to memorize the steps, but have a basic understanding of the song before you go into it. Even memorize the music itself, the lyrics, etc. so you can whistle along. Know where the tempo changes may occur, where stops are. Most importantly, know where the songs musical notes occur in the melody, because these will be mostly what you step. Now that we're heading into dangerous territory, there is one big rule that I have to stress right away: Remember how in the last part I told you to "find your center"? Well, you've found it by now, so now it's time to GET OFF IT. That's a crutch that's let you into the game, but it will hold you back later on. What you have to learn is to return your feet to the center as rarely as possible, if at all. Move your feet from one arrow to the next, and don't move them unless you have an arrow to go to. This is probably the hardest thing you'll ever have to learn as a DDR player. Once you've relinquished your grip on the center, you only stand to improve up to the highest reaches of DDR-dom. This actually leads to the other major point of going intermediate: Eighth notes. Those are those off-colored ones. You'll have to deal with a lot of them, so learn to love them now. This is actually a good first step to leaving the center, because you are absolutely required to step three or more arrows in succession, and you'll have no time to return to the center at all. Use groups of three eighth notes to figure how to properly move between arrows; combinations such as up-left-down, where your right foot goes on up, left foot goes on left, and your right foot is already carrying back towards the down arrow, for example. Once you get strings of three down, you'll be ready to tackle longer strings, of four, five, seven, even nine if they're not too tangly. So, for this end, you'll want to go for songs of four to six feet in difficulty, as well as treading into the pink pink waters of Difficult Mode. Just about all songs of this difficulty have at least several eighth notes to give you practice. Take these opportunities to develop your step combinations for your own style, so you'll be ready to use them when they appear again in harder songs. Also, it may behoove you to get into Workout Mode or Endless Mode and repeatedly hammer some songs, particularly those of a brisk pace. This is a good first step to building up all-important stamina. =================================== 3F. Dancing Tips for the Advanced = =================================== KEEP PRACTICING! All right. You're through messing around, and through getting condescending looks from your peers at the arcade. It's time to show them what you can really do and kick it up a notch or three. If you're really serious now, it's once again time for a new pad. Although 7, 8, and even some 9-footers are possible on a soft, flimsy pad, you just won't get the high scores you cherish. For this, I turned to RedOctane's Ignition 2.0. It's also a soft pad, but the thick foam insert, soft gripping bottom, and raised step platforms make it a good pad for aspiring champions, all for a paltry 100 clams. Of course, if you have the money to blow (approximately $300), you may want to take it even further and buy the Cobalt Flux pad, which is a custom-made hard metal pad. It's VERY resilient, and much like pads you'll see in the arcades. An alternative was suggested to me by one Coldman64: If you still have a thin mat, and you need help finding where the panels are, you can try putting a folded-up T-shirt underneath the center, allowing you to know where it is. Anyway, pads aside, it's time to get down to business: First, you better have mastered the stuff from the previous sections. I want to be able to yell out a song title and for you to hum it right there so you know what it sounds like. I don't wanna see your feet touch that center, soldier, or you'll drop and give me fifty. At this point, you should also have quick enough eye-foot coordination so that matching arrows on the screen with proper steps is second-nature. Now, for some new tactics: Chaos. You'll soon find as you reach the higher levels, that not all arrows are quarter notes and eighth notes. You'll find sixteenths, twelfths, and thirty-second notes thrown in to mess you up. Very rarely will they be in random. Almost always, they'll match up with how the song goes, so you'll at least have that going for you. So, a thorough knowledge of the songs will allow you to surmount this hurdle with little difficulty. Taps. This is the name I like to give eighth notes all on the same arrow. These are always a pain, because you have to train your foot to tap rapidly on the same arrow for a possibly long time, and it can really wear you out. There's no easy way to get around this, you just have to learn it as you go. Gallops. This is the popular name for a series of steps that has two sixteenth note steps together, then two sixteen notes of dead space, then two note steps together, and so on. When you step these notes, you'll feel like a horse gallopping, which derives the name. Oftentimes, these notes will be strung so that the last note in one gallop is the first note of the next gallop. To properly step these, leave your last-stepping foot in place, so it'll be ready to step the next gallop while your other foot moves to the next note. This leads to the final tactic. Axis of Rotation or "crossovers". Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to have your upper body directly facing the screen at all times. A very important tactic for the toughest songs is turning your body so that making truly difficult steps becomes easier. Using alternating feet on long series' of eighth notes is far less taxing than taking two or more eighth notes with one foot. The best way to start turning your body is with left-down-right eighth note combos. Left foot on the left arrow, right foot on the down, and turn so that your left foot hits the right arrow. It'll be very disorienting at first, but the hard songs will really take it out of you if you don't learn. After learning a basic turn, learn to maintain your body at a 90 degree angle to the screen for extended periods of time, and then taking it further by rotating 180 degrees, or even 270 and 360, if you're brave enough to take your eyes off the screen. Finally, it's important to be in relatively good shape for this. You have to have the proper stamina and leg strength to pull off the toughest ones, because rather dexterous and tiring feats will be required of you, so keep pounding at it, do hard songs repeatedly to build up strength, and push yourself harder and harder to go all the way up to the great green Expert Mode. And lastly, never tackle 10-footers without a good insurance plan backing you up. ^_^ ============================== 3G. Dancing Tips for Doubles = ============================== KEEP PRACTICING! Get ready to relearn DDR all over again as you branch out towards the second pad. First of all, it'd be best you get good pads for this. Soft flat mats are just no good at all, since they'll slide apart and over each other. Even Ignition Pads are tough for this, since they can move as well, unless you can find some way to lash them together. The best, naturally, is the Cobalt Flux dual setup, which you can connect. Okay, you probably should begin your Doubles career after at least mastering Difficult on Single, but it's best on Expert. One of the greatest things to "unlearn" from Single Play is to be able to move your entire body. When playing Single, you'll generally maintain your upper body in one place spatially, but that definitely won't fly on Doubles. Crossovers take on a whole new meaning when playing on higher levels on Double Play. In a general sense, you'll be playing with your left foot on the right arrow on the left pad, while your right foot will be on the left arrow on the right pad. A lot of the stepcharts on Doubles are engineered so you dance around that setup. After that, it's all pretty much getting used to the new setup. Practice and practice some more. Build up your stamina, learn how to read eight arrows, and know where to step. ****************************************************************************** 4. Flow (Jammin' Ragga Mix) = ============================== UNLOCK: Get VIP Card in Stellar Joint PHANTOM Artist: Scotty D. revisits U1 Genre: Reggae Pop* BPM: 70-140 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 1 BAS: 3 3 DIF: 5 5 EXP: 8 8 Play Notes: The song starts at 70, then goes to 140 soon afterwards. Later, there's a stop, then twice will be a short slowdown to 70. Expert Notes: Definitely a hard set. There are jumps all over the place, especially in the streams, and sixteenths, offbeat steps leading into and out of the slowdowns. Could pass as a somewhat easy 9. --- Lyrics: Only if we watch together, everything, there's a flow (Only if we watch together, everything, there is a flow) Only with you do I wanna be part of the flow (Only with you do I wanna be part of the flow) Stand... if you will, right next to me Wrapped around in the wind of eternity See... for yourself, the history Nature's players, boasting victory Grab... the fruit of tomorrow From which the energy of life we borrow Taste... the weight of time The only weight is of glory and crime Notice... how weak and petty we are In the grand picture we're drawn afar Hey... we can't help it We die, only our grave's legit But love... you're very existence You're the source of my subsistence Slow down take your time and feel the flow Only if we watch together, everything, there's a flow (Only if we watch together, everything, there is a flow) Only with you do I wanna be part of the flow (Only with you do I wanna be part of the flow-ow-ow-ow-ow) Notice... how weak and petty we are In the grand picture we're drawn afar Hey... we can't help it We die, only our grave's legit But love... you're very existence You're the source of my subsistence Slow down take your time and feel the flow Only if we watch together, everything, there's a flow Only with you do I wanna be part of the flow Only if we live it can we keep up to the speed of the flow (Okay, all right. We're done. Okay, let's move on.) (Hey! Let's move on to the next song! We're done!) --- Song Type: Konami Original Artist Notes: Better known as Konami of Japan's PR man to America, Scott Dolph is also a decent rapper. He's done the lyrics for a few Konami tunes, most notably DROP THE BOMB. U1 is Yuuichi Asami. His biggest claim is as the sound director for the home versions of DDR, producing much of the background music for menus, etc. that you wouldn't find in an arcade game. He has a large range of styles, and has remixed several of Naoki's more popular tunes under the alias "2MB". ======================= 5C. Flow (true style) = ======================= Artist: Scotty D. revisits U1 Genre: Trance BPM: 140-280 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 3 BAS: 4 4 DIF: 6 6 EXP: 8 8 CHA: 8 8 Play Notes: There are two double-speed sections in this song, and both occur as soon as the "chorus" comes. Expert Notes: This is kinda messy. You'll find short streams in the beginning, but it will quickly throw in gallops. Soon after the first speed-up, you'll be dealing with longer streams with jumps thrown in. Challenge Notes: More messy. Sixteenth clusters, longer streams, and more jumps to play with. Also, on the double speed sections, there are long streams and sixteenths. --- Lyrics: Stand... if you will, right next to me Wrapped around in the wind of eternity See... for yourself, the history Nature's players, boasting victory Grab... the fruit of tomorrow From which the energy of life we borrow Taste... the weight of time The only weight is of glory and crime Notice... how weak and petty we are In the grand picture we're drawn afar Hey... we can't help it We die, only our grave's legit But love... you're very existence You're the source of my subsistence Slow down take your time and feel the flow Only if we watch together, everything, there's a flow Only with you do I wanna be part of the flow Notice... how weak and petty we are In the grand picture we're drawn afar Hey... we can't help it We die, only our grave's legit But love... you're very existence You're the source of my subsistence Slow down take your time and feel the flow Only if we live it can we keep up to the speed of the flow Only with you do I wanna fall into the flow Only if we watch together, everything, there's a flow Only with you do I wanna be part of the flow (Only if we watch together, everything, there is a flow) (Only with you do I wanna be part of the flow) --- Song Type: Konami Original First Appearance: DDR SuperNOVA ARC Artist Notes: See the above song for info. Misc. Notes: This is the original "Flow". The song is exactly as it's heard in the original version. The only thing that's changed is that there are new charts, with speed-ups included at two points. You can think of it as sort of the "proper" version of Flow (aka true style, I guess). ============== 5D. Fly away = ============== Artist: ChiyoTia Genre: House BPM: 125 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 1 BAS: 3 3 DIF: 5 6 EXP: 7 7 Expert Notes: You begin stepping the bass rhythm, with streams and gallops. Expert Notes: In the opener, the song follows a rather stricth 7/8 regimen. The second part of the song is mostly straight eighths, then some long freezes. The end is gallops and a few sixteenth clusters. --- Song Type: Konami Original First Appearance: DDR SuperNOVA ARC Artist Notes: noisycroak is a small music firm in Japan, with the majority of the songs that have been released to DDR done by Hiroyoshi Kato. They were commissioned just last year (2005) for their songs to appear in DDR Extreme 2/DDR STRIKE, and apparently, have earned enough favor to continue releasing. ========================== 5G. My only shining star You are my guiding star (5, 4, 3, 2, 1, shining star!) They've produced a few albums, but almost all of their music was created for the games. In 2004, they "restructured" the group after Shiyuna Maehara left, adding three new members and "updating" their image. The current members are Riyu Kosaka, Noria Shiraishi, Yoma Komatsu, Risa Sotohana, Sayaka Minami, and Miharu Arisawa. Misc. Notes: Yeah, that's really the title. There's a special music video for this tune, of BeForU in a live performance. Once I have lyrics, I'll have info on who sings what part of the song. ====================== 5I. Star Gate Heaven = ====================== Artist: SySF. feat. Donna Burke Genre: Epic Trance* BPM: 145 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 1 BAS: 3 3 DIF: 5 6 EXP: 7 8 Expert Notes: The first part follows the trance synth beats pretty cleanly on psuedo-triplets. About the middle of the tune, you'll find a pattern of a gallop into a freeze, with a three-tap on the same arrow repeated, then mostly more psuedo-triplets with a few gallops and small streams. --- Lyrics: Long before the planets We're forming the true Joining of hearts brought together by longing For words never seen before you and I were born Enter into another dimension to travel with me to sentient stars that are Holding the message of love through eternity's long lonely night Open up ethereal imaginings To worlds beyond the stars (Take me now to paradise) Open up your truest self and deepest heart And know we'll never part (Take me now to paradise) --- Song Type: Konami Original Artist Notes: SySF. is an alias for Sota Fujimori. Come to the zoo!" So, me and my friends, we go out in the car Didn't have much gas Good thing we didn't have to go too far Didn't have to go too far First things first, we got some ice cream And then we headed over to tease the monkeys Stuck my tongue out and made the monkey frown Tryin' to be cool with my friends around Well, I guess he had enough of me 'Cause when I turned my head, he stole my ice cream That little monkey stole my ice cream And everybody laughed at me That little monkey stole my ice cream Everybody made fun of me That little monkey made a monkey out of me As the day came to an end We walked right by the monkey again And as he was swingin' from tree to tree I swear that monkey was laughing at me Don't monkey with the monkey Don't monkey with the monkey Don't monkey with the monkey Don't monkey with the monkey That little monkey made a monkey out of me That little monkey made a monkey out of me Don't monkey with the monkey Don't monkey with the monkey Don't monkey with the monkey That little monkey made a monkey out of me --- Song Type: Konami Original First Appearance: DDR Ultramix 2 Artist Notes: See Baile Le Samba for info on Big Idea. The Least 100sec = ====================== UNLOCK: Get VIP Card in Stellar Joint UGUISU Artist: Hirofumi Sasaki Genre: Progressive* BPM: 200-264 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 3 BAS: 5 5 DIF: 7 8 EXP: 8 8 Play Notes: Although the tempo changes slightly throughout the song, it's mostly around 260 for most of the song, until the end where it starts slowing down to about 200. Expert Notes: You're mostly combatting the speed, here. The streams are short and simple. There are just a lot of them. You'll also be stepping a lot on the offbeat. --- Song Type: Konami Original First Appearance: Guitar Freaks 5th Mix/Drummania 4th Mix DDR Debut: DDR Extreme (Arcade) Artist Notes: Hirofumi Sasaki is composer of a few tunes in the Guitar Freaks and Drummania series. Misc. Notes: Yes, this song is exactly 100 seconds long. ^_^ ****************************************************************************** 8. EXTRA STAGE SONGS (Red Songs) ****************************************************************************** These red songs are special hard songs, aka "boss songs". They're all ten feet of difficulty on Expert and Challenge. Accessing them also takes special feats. In general, the idea is to play Game Mode and pass your last stage on Expert with a AA. You're then given one of the songs as an Extra Stage, depending on what you selected as your opening difficulty after selecting your style. ================================ 8A. MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix) = ================================ Extra Stage: On "Easy" difficulty, pass your last song on Expert with a AA. You'll play this song at 1.5x, Reverse, and Rainbow. UNLOCK: Get an A while playing this song as an Extra Stage. OR: Get EX VIP Card on Stellar Joint NITRO Artist: Jondi & Spesh Genre: Hardcore Techno/Trance* BPM: 140-320 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 3 BAS: 6 6 DIF: 8 9 EXP:10 10 CHA:10! 10! Play Notes: The song carries on at a MAX's normal 300 for a bit of the first part. After the trancey sounds, it cuts up to 320, then drops for a couple of measure to 140, then resumes the 300, and closes out at 320. Expert Notes: Some say this is harder than MAXX UNLIMITED and beyond. I'd say it's comparable. If you've played both MAX 300 and MAXX UNLIMITED, the steps should be familiar, since it's kind of a split between the two. Be very careful about losing your stamina in the opener, because there are a lot of doubles in the beginning, which can drain you easily. And of course, I'd be lynched if I neglected to mention the end, which is a bunch of short to long to giant streams. Fortunately, most of these streams alternate feet, which is markedly easier than stepping around the pad. Challenge Notes: Yes, harder than the Heavy steps. Lots of jumps in the first half, which can really drain you, and remember how I said the Heavy steps aren't as bad because they alternate steps? Yeah, now they go all around the pad for the final long streams. Have fun, now. --- Song Type: Konami Original First Appearance: DDR Ultramix 2 Artist Notes: Jondi & Spesh are part of the group Loöq Records. This tune was made specifically for DDR. Misc. Notes: To be perfectly honest, this song seems to take more from MAXX UNLIMITED than it does from MAX 300. The Challenge steps were added to this song when it appeared in DDR STRIKE. This song has the background video from DDR STRIKE. ====================== 8B. Healing-D-Vision = ====================== Extra Stage: On "Medium" difficulty, pass your last song on Expert with a AA. You'll play this song at 1.5x, Reverse, and Rainbow. UNLOCK: Get an A while playing this song as an Extra Stage. OR: Get EX VIP Card on Stellar Joint NITRO Artist: DE-STRAD Genre: Drum'N'Bass BPM: 180-360 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 3 BAS: 7 7 DIF: 8 8 EXP:10 10 CHA:10 10 Play Notes: About 3/4ths of the way through, the BPM doubles from 180 to 360. Please be careful. Expert Notes: This song really doesn't get too difficult until the BPM change, but for completion sake: the opening has a lot of gallops and you'll find plenty of air on the accented notes. Once the song kicks in to high gear, you'll get small streams at the super-fast tempo. Nothing complicated, just incredibly fast and tiring. Challenge Notes: The steps in the first section are a little more complicated with more sixteenths thrown in. There's more air on the accents, and, as you might expect, the final section is quite a bit worse, with longer streams and crossovers. Just think, this is the easier one. --- Song Type: Konami Original Artist Notes: DE-STRAD is a Naoki alias. ====================== 8C. Fascination MAXX = ====================== Extra Stage: On "Difficult" difficulty, pass your last song on Expert with a AA. You'll play this song at 1.5x, Reverse, and Rainbow. UNLOCK: Get an A while playing this song as an Extra Stage. OR: Get EX VIP Card on Stellar Joint THE LAST. Artist: 100-200-400 Genre: SuperNOVA Beat* BPM: 100-400 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 3 BAS: 9 8 DIF: 9 9 EXP:10 10 CHA:10 10 Play Notes: Okay, the song actually begins at 100, but as soon as you hit the first step, you'll be going at 400. After about twenty seconds, it slows to 100 for a second, then goes back to 400. It does this about twice more in the space of another twenty seconds, then goes to 100 for another twelve seconds. Then, it sits on 200 for about forty seconds, then a quick stop, then a little more at 200, then another quick stop, and a few more seconds at 200, then the song goes another twenty at 400, then has another few seconds at 100, then another few seconds at 200, then it closes out quickly at 400. Expert Notes: The first 400 run is straight quarters. Once it starts the momentary slowdowns, you'll have small to mid-size streams to deal with. The longer 100 section has psuedo-triplets and 24ths. Once the 200 section goes, you have gallops interspersed with straight eighths to trip you up. The 200 section with stops has you stepping the music, then the last 400 section is short streams, then longer and harder streams and jumps. The last 100-200-400 section is pretty much just Challenge Notes: Honestly, there isn't much different about this chart. The only notable difference (if in fact the ONLY difference) is that the opener (that normally had quarters) now has streams and freezes, making you that much more tired for the rest of it. --- Song Type: Konami Original Artist Notes: 100-200-400 is a Naoki alias. ==================================== 8D. Fascination -eternal love mix- = ==================================== Extra Stage: On "All Music" difficulty, pass your last song on Expert with a AA. You'll play this song at 1.5x, Reverse, and Rainbow. UNLOCK: Get an A while playing this song as an Extra Stage. OR: Get Diamond EX VIP Card on Stellar Joint THE LAST. Artist: 2MB Genre: SuperNOVA Beat BPM: 100-400 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 4 BAS: 9 9 DIF: 9 9 EXP:10 10 CHA:10 10 Play Notes: The song starts at 100 for a few seconds, then a short stop, then it proceeds at 200 for about ten seconds, then it kicks to 400. After ten seconds of that, 200, then 400 after five seconds for just a second, then back to 200, where there are several short stops as it follows the rhythm. After about twenty seconds of that, it goes to 400 for nearly thirty seconds, then 200 for about ten seconds, then 400 for fifteen seconds, then finally a stop at the end. Expert Notes: It's almost not even worth saying how much of a mess this step- chart is, but I'll try anyway. Generally, in 100 BPM sections, you'll find sixteenths, in 200 BPM sections, lots of eighths, and in the 400 BPM sections, usually straight quarters, but some gallops. In the last two 400 sections will have eighths in them. Challenge Notes: It seems a bit easier at first, but man, it's a WHOLE LOT harder. On paper, it doesn't look like that much bigger of a deal; a few more streams in the 400 sections to complicate things. The problem, and what pretty much makes this the new official "hardest" chart in DDR history, is all the jumps that are thrown into the 400 section. Just... don't hurt yourself. --- Song Type: Konami Original First Appearance: DDR SuperNOVA ARC Artist Notes: 2MB is an alias of U1-ASAMi, for his remixes of Naoki's music. See Flow for more info. =========== 8E. CHAOS = =========== One More Extra Stage: Pass one of the red songs as your Extra Stage during Game Mode. You'll be allowed to play this song on Rainbow and Sudden Death (one misstep will fail you). UNLOCK: Get an A while playing this song as an Extra Stage. OR: Get EX VIP Card on Stellar Joint NITRO. Artist: DE-SIRE retunes Genre: Techno BPM: 170 Difficulty: Sgl Dbl BEG: 4 BAS: 9 9 DIF: 9 9 EXP:10 10 CHA:10 10 Play Notes: The thing... about this song... that will really... tick you... off is the... fact that it... stops... FORTY-TWO times. Really, there's no way to be warned about when each stop is coming because there are so many. Just memorize it. However, I can tell you that later in the song, you'll see steps clustered together. Those are all individual stops. Expert Notes: Well, in the end, it's not all that bad. Obviously, the majority of the difficulty is in the stops. The actual steps would be maybe a low-end 9 if there were no stops and it was just straight. Streams with a few crossovers, some gallops, and some sixteenths. Challenge Notes: Only quite a bit more difficult at the end. There is an increase of difficulty, as the sixteenth runs get longer, and they put jumps in them, of all things. Gallops, streams, and the end after the last stop is one big sixteenth run, so look out. --- Song Type: Konami Original Artist Notes: DE-SIRE retunes is a Naoki alias. ****************************************************************************** 9. STELLAR MASTER MODE ****************************************************************************** It's everyone's dream to be a Stellar Master, and PiX is gonna take you there. This is the new Dance Master Mode, and it's been overhauled to make it more accessible to beginners, and allow them to get the songs just as masters would be able to. --- Stellar Joints This is how all the challenges are grouped. Each Joint has a set of challenges for you to complete, each with their own set of songs and styles. Select a Joint and you'll be taken to the next part. --- Trials In order to get further in a Stellar Joint, you need to complete Trials. Once you begin your work on a Joint, you'll be given your list of songs, which varies depending on the Joint. You need to complete those songs a certain way in order to pass the trials. For instance, you may need to complete a few songs with an A or better, or you may need to complete them with a certain character in the background. Completing trials will earn you "charisma". Note that you can potentially complete a song and fulfill requirements for more than one trial at once. --- Showdowns Once you complete a certain number of trials, you'll begin to access the Showdowns. There are three Showdowns of ascending difficulty: the Showdown, the EX Showdown, and the Diamond EX Showdown. When you start a Showdown, you'll be given specific "Drills", similar to the missions in Dance Master Mode of DDR Extreme 2 or Mission Mode of DDR Extreme USA. You need to complete a certain number out of a certain number of attempts. Some of these drills will require you to perform in a certain manner, such as not stepping on a certain arrow, or they'll give you some weird handicaps. Complete Showdowns and you'll earn VIP Cards. VIP Cards are used to unlock new Stellar Joints. Sadly, I don't have a fix on the exact formula, just yet. ============== 9A. When you run through it, you'll see a spot in the middle where you'll miss your combo (it's at about twenty in your combo). It's an empty spot and an UP ARROW goes there. Drill RD-DEX2: Song: COME CLEAN Diff: DIF Handicap: The right arrow is lowered a beat. Challenge: Get at least an A on this drill. Be VERY careful, because there are small streams to deal with, plenty of jumps, and freezes. You're gonna have to learn to read that setup darn quick, or you'll fail getting an A. Drill RD-DEX3: Song: INNOCENCE OF SILENCE Diff: DIF Challenge: Do not get a combo of 10 or more throughout this play. It's a bit tricky, since you have to watch both the arrows and the counter. You may wish to try a "Good Attack", getting as many of those as you can. At the latter half of the song, you can just step the quarter notes (avoiding the odd eighth note) and you should be fine for the rest of the song. Drill RD-DEX4: Song: Fly away -mix del matador- Diff: EXP Options: Bird Arrow Challenge: Get a maximum combo of at least 30. The only real problem you'll have to deal with is the unfamiliar arrows, and the fact that you most likely haven't played this song, yet. Drill RD-DEX5: Song: Star Gate Heaven (FUTURE LOVE Mix) Diff: DIF Handicap: The left arrow has Boost on, but the rest of the arrows are normal. Challenge: Get at least a C on this drill. Well, this is new. It'll take some time to get used to it, but a seasoned player should have no problem with the C threshold. Drill RD-DEX6: Song: UNKNOWN (Feeding Time) Challenge: Get a maximum combo of at least 40. This drill is just alternating sixteenth notes on the left and right arrows. It's not easy to maintaing such a pattern for 40 steps, but it is possible. Drill RD-DEX7: Song: Mugen Diff: DIF Options: x2, Rainbow Challenge: "Step on spots where there are no arrows" is broken down like so: wherever there's an arrow in the normal stepchart, you'll see a blank, and arrows instead where aren't supposed to be any (sets of three or two). Basically, you have to step on the white space in those sets. For instance, if you see a down-up-right set, you step on left. If you see a left-up-right set, you step on down. If you see an up-down set, you jump on both left and right. It's interesting practice on reading negative space. I just wish it wasn't on x2. Phew. Drill RD-DEX8: Song: Ska Ska No. 3 Diff: DIF Handicap: The right arrow is lowered a beat. Challenge: Get at least a B on this drill. It's kinda tough to count on the fly, so I'll tell you right now that it's about halfway through the 23rd measure of the song, and it's a DOWN arrow (the first of a set of two). Since there are no measure markers while you play, I'll give you a music cue, as well. After the starting melody, the song breaks down into a running rhythm, and the steps look like lower semicircle gallops (right, right-down, down-left, left-down, etc.) On the SECOND phrase of that, you'll find your arrow, about halfway through the phrase. It's a lot easier to wait until you unlock HDV, can look at it in Training, and count for yourself. Drill PH-DEX8: Song: Healing-D-Vision Diff: CHA Options: x1.5, Reverse Challenge: Hey, a pattern. (CHA, NG) NOTES: Okay, Trials 4 and 8 can be completed by simple cheating: have two players active, and only turn the options on for one, following the other chart. Trial 7 is much like any other character-related trial: If you don't get what you want, press START and SELECT to reset and try again until you do. Since all the characters on this Joint are PiX, it's not as hard as you'd think. Trials 2 and 3 are exceedingly time-consuming, but quite doable. As for Trial 5, the magic song for this is "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" on BASIC. Keep getting PERFECTs and an even number of GREATs, but get a Boo every so often to keep your score down. After a while, you will hit 7777777. Stop at that point, maybe getting a GOOD or two to keep from bottoming out. --- Showdown (complete one trial) Goal - 2/3 Drills NOTE: This is the only regular Showdown that does not progress in numerical order. Drill PB-4: Song: MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix) Diff: CHA Challenge: This is the last "Simon Says" style setup. You have to step all the steps on this song before it ends. Even with a controller, this one hurts. Drill PB-5: Song: MIDNIGHT SPECIAL Diff: BAS Handicap: Left arrow is lowered six beats, down arrow four, up arrow two. Challenge: Get a full combo on this drill. Since the left arrow is more or less eclipsed by your score bar, there might be some memorization involved for this one. Drill PB-EX2: Song: DoLL Diff: DIF Handicap: Left arrow has Fuwa Fuwa. Down arrow has x0.5. Up arrow is normal. Right arrow is Boosted. Challenge: Pass this drill. Out of all the ones in this Showdown, this is probably the easiest. Drill PB-EX3: Song: Xepher Diff: CHA Options: Tiny Arrow Challenge: Pass this drill. This was one of the ones I passed to get my card. --- Diamond EX Showdown (complete three trials) Goal - 1/3 Drills Drill PB-DEX1: Song: No.13 Diff: EXP Handicap: Left arrow is lowered three beats, down arrow two, up arrow one. Challenge: Pass this drill. It's painful with the diagonal setup. Drill PB-DEX2: Song: RED ZONE Diff: EXP Handicap: Off-beat arrows are boosted. Challenge: Get at least a AA on this drill. Drill PB-DEX4: Song: FRECKLES (KCP Re-Edit) Diff: EXP Handicap: Left and right arrows are boosted. Up and down are on Brake. Challenge: Pass this drill. The steps itself aren't difficult if you can remember them, but don't even try to read it. Drill PB-DEX5: Song: Xepher Diff: CHA Handicap: The left and right arrows are on Fuwa Fuwa. Challenge: Pass this drill. It's a hard chart, made harder by the goofy arrows. Drill PB-DEX6: Song: CURUS Diff: EXP Challenge: Step on the negative space where there's no arrows, like you've been doing already. This is likely the easiest one in the mess. Drill PB-DEX7: Song: Fascination -eternal love mix- Diff: CHA Options: x1.5, Reverse, Boost Challenge: Pass this drill. The hardest chart in existence, in a somewhat extra stage mode. Good luck. Drill PB-DEX8: Song: CHAOS Diff: EXP Options: x1.5, Reverse Challenge: Get a full combo on this drill. Aaaand once you pass this one, that's it. You've finished Stellar Master Mode! ADVANCED MODE ****************************************************************************** These are the more difficult modes of play. At the outset, only "Course" and "Battle" are available to you, and you'll need to unlock the other options through Stellar Master Mode. ================== 10A. Course Mode = ================== This is a combination of the old Nonstop and Oni modes of play. You begin by selecting your style and character. After that, you select the "Meter": Normal: Standard Dance Meter. This is the "Nonstop" play, where you just go through the songs all at once. Challenge: Battery Dance Meter. Step anything but a MARVELOUS, PERFECT, GREAT, or OK and you lose one of your four lives. Lose all four and it's game over. After passing a song, you gain back all lives you lost. This is the "Oni" style of play. After that, you'll select your course. There is only one difficulty for each course (as opposed to two in previous games), and you can select options for the course as well, if the course allows it. Scoring is done in a similar manner to normal, only MARVELOUS steps and OKs are worth full credit, PERFECT steps are 2/3rds credit, and GREAT steps are 1/3rd credit. At the end of your play, your score is ranked next to the maximum possible score. If playing on "Normal" meter, you'll be letter-graded as normal. If playing on "Challenge" meter, you get a percentage-based score. Also available is a "Create Your Own Course". You may create ten of your own courses using the "ORDER" slots. They all start at RANDOM and four songs long on Standard, but you can change any of these attributes, including options in each of the songs. --- Courses List * #1 - Sunny Days * Diff.(S/D) 1. Battle Mode = ================== This is a new cool two-player mode where you go up against either a human or computer opponent and play songs. While you play, you build up an "attack" meter. Once that's full, an "attack" is unleashed on your opponent. These attacks include (but are not limited to) turning on any of the Song Options (speed multipliers, Hidden, Sudden, Dark, etc.), moving arrows to different spots on the Judgment Panel, lowering arrows on the Judgement Panel. Also, "Shuffle" is automatically turned on, and each player plays a different type of stepchart, so you can't just watch the other player's display if your chart gets too hard to read. The person with the highest score at the end of the song is the winner, natch. =================== 10C. Endless Mode = =================== To unlock this mode, you must purchase all locked songs from the Shop. The object of this mode is to play for as long as possible on a standard Dance Meter. You'll begin by selecting your style. Only Single and Double plays are available for this mode. After that, you'll make your Endless Settings: Step: Select your difficulty - Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, or Random. Break Stage: Set a break stage after a certain number of songs. Select Options: Pick your step options as you would in normal play. Music Program: Set your program of songs that you wish to play, if you wish to only include or disclude particular songs. ==================== 10D. Survival Mode = ==================== To unlock this mode, you must purchase all locked songs from the Shop. This mode is similar to Endless Mode, only instead of a Dance Meter, you have a Challenge Meter with four lives. You'll still be able to select style (Single or Double) and your difficulty (Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, or All). So, just ignore that gigantic clock in the middle of the screen. =========================== 10E. Combo Challenge Mode = =========================== To unlock this mode, you must purchase all locked songs from the Shop. This mode is similar to Endless Mode, only instead of a Dance Meter, you have to keep a combo running. As soon as you break combo, the game's over. You'll still be able to select style (Single or Double) and your difficulty (Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, or All). And, for your reference, you have a gigantic combo meter in the center of the screen. ****************************************************************************** 11. OTHER MODES ****************************************************************************** Here are the rest of the game modes. =================== 11A. Workout Mode = =================== This mode allows you to observe the calories melting away as you dance. --- Workout Setting Weight: Set this and the amount of calories burned will be slightly changed to reflect your weight. Menu: Set to "Play Time" to play a specific amount of time. Set to "Calories Burned" and you'll play until you reach that number of calories. Set to "Program" and you can set your own workout course (like a Nonstop). "No Setting" will let you have no restrictions. Goal: Set to minutes if "Play Time" is on Menu, and to a calorie amount if "Calories Burned is on Menu. Workout Step: With this on, the steps will be set to "Little". Simultaneous Step: Turning this off will remove jumps. Program: Select Free to have the normal song list, or Course to access some preset courses the game gives you, or courses you can order yourself. --- Workout Results After every song (or at the end of your program), you'll see a Workout Results screen where you can see your calorie-related results. Press Circle to see them charted in relation to other day's workouts. ==================== 11B. Training Mode = ==================== Select this to pick songs and tackle them on your own terms. Start by selecting a song, then you'll go to the menu screen, where you can select the mode (Single, Versus, Double), its difficulty, any song options you want (as detailed in the How To Dance section far above), and you may put in any Edit Data you wish. In addition (unlike other modes of gameplay), you can set Assist, which allows you to play with any combination of the music, a metronome (which marks standard quarter note beats), and a handclap (which claps whenever there's an arrow). Also, you can set the "Music Speed". Unlike the song option called Speed, this actually changes how fast the song goes. It's good for taking fast songs at speeds you can manage. Adjusting this to a lower amount will automatically turn off the music, so you'll need to set the metronome or handclap on if you want something in the background. Finally, you can set what measure the song begins and ends. The "Start" function below it will allow you to quickly change between the measures you select and the whole song. ================ 11C. Edit Mode = ================ Well, I'm not gonna go through all the possibilities that Edit Mode offers here. Honestly, if you're serious about Editing, you'll probably know to read the instructions on this one. Seriously, there's too much info about it for me to justify making a section for it. ****************************************************************************** 12. ONLINE MODE ****************************************************************************** Yep. Still don't have a broadband adapter for my PS2. I MAY get one now, knowing that there are songs that you can only play online. Of course, I still would have to get a gaming router, but all the new systems are gonna need one to be fully played, so it's just a matter of time, eh? ****************************************************************************** 13. SHOP ****************************************************************************** Okay. EVERYTHING unlockable in this game has to come through here. It's not enough just to trigger the unlock. You'll need the requisite number of Shop Points to actually be able to use it. ========================= 13A. Shop Point Formula = ========================= Okay, every song you play starts you with a base amount of Shop Points. How you step changes the amount of points you have, and when you finish the song, the Shop Points you've earned are put into your main "account". While you can be reduced to 0 points in a song, you can never reduce the amount in your account just through play. How many points you start with and can earn are based on the step difficulty you choose, and the foot rating difficulty. --- Beginner/Basic: BEG: 700 BAS 2: 680 BAS 3: 720 BAS 4: 760 BAS 5: 800 BAS 6: 840 BAS 7: 880 BAS 8: 920 BAS 9: 960 PERFECT: +1 GREAT: +1 GOOD: 0 Almost: 0 Boo: 0 OK: +1 NG: 0 --- Difficult: DIF 4: 480 DIF 5: 500 DIF 6: 520 DIF 7: 540 DIF 8: 560 DIF 9: 580 PERFECT: +2 GREAT: +2 GOOD: 0 Almost: -10 Boo: -20 OK: +2 NG: -20 --- Expert/Challenge: EXP 6: 220 EXP 7: 240 EXP 8: 260 EXP 9: 280 EXP 10: 300 CHA 7: 290 CHA 8: 310 CHA 9: 330 CHA 10: 350 PERFECT: +3 GREAT: +2 GOOD: 0 Almost: -30 Boo: -60 OK: +3 NG: -20 --- Course All courses give a set amount of points for each song you play, which doesn't change no matter how well or poorly you do. You earn those points for each song you pass, even if you don't complete the entire course. Normal Dance Meter: 800 per song Challenge Meter: 1000 per song ============ 13B. E-mail Guidelines = ======================== If you wish to e-mail me, be sure to follow these guidelines: - Make ABSOLUTELY sure I haven't already answered your question in the guide. - Make sure it has something to do with DDR SuperNOVA. I don't want spam, chain letters, offers for friendship. Don't bother me with info on other DDR games, really. I keep my ear pretty close to the ground about such things, and I'll probably know about it before you. Compliment me on the FAQ all you want, though. - Make sure you say "DDR SuperNOVA" at one point in your e-mail. I have more than one DDR FAQ, and I can't always figure the question out without specifying what game you're asking about. - Asking how to beat a song will result in a deletion. There really are no tips to offer for DDR'ing besides what I have in my section. It has to come from your own skill and desire to pass. - Spell correctly and use proper grammar, please. If I can't understand your e-mail, it'll go to the junk pile. ============== 14C. Credits = ============== My beautiful girlfriend, Candice, for her support and understanding. Version 1.0 - (11/19/06) - Done Stellar Master Mode. ===================== 14E. The Final Word = ===================== There are some things I miss from the last mix, like the specialized videos and Information Mode (My Room), but this is still a great song set, and a good progression for the series. Take care and happy dancing!
