INTRODUCTION ============================================================================== Koei is a company that is famous for their strategy/simulation game. My first encounter of this company is a game called "Romance of the three Kingdom", a PC game of war in the Three Kingdom era. Then the next game I play is "Nobunaga Ambition", a PC game of war in the Japan, during the Oda Nobunaga era. Then follow a series of update of the Romance of the Three Kingdom and Nobunaga series, all on PC. But I have never been enticed to play the Romance of the Three Kingdom (or for short ROTK) in videogame or console, until Dynasty Tactics (in Japanese language version the title is Sangokushi Senki) arrive. This game is very tactic heavy, and I found it very attractive. I even purchase the English version after I purchased the Japanese version because I like it so much. You can get the latest version of this FAQ at GameFAQs (refer to the top of the FAQ for instruction). This guide is for the Dynasty Tactics, or DT. If you're reading a version of this FAQ that has been translated, HTML'ized, or whatever, please send all inquiries to those people who did the changes and not me, as they may have an older version or have added their own corrections and I won't be able to help you. I WILL NOT answer any gameplay related questions about this game, especially the ones that has been answered in this FAQ. If I received this kind of e-mail, I will delete it straight away, so do not expect any response from me. ============================================================================== 3. MENU AND GENERAL TACTIC ============================================================================== General Button usage : "X" select "Triangle" cancel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.1 MAIN MENU ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ General Button usage : "X" select "Triangle" cancel When you first play the game (there is no save game of DT in memory card), you will automatically be brought forward to the tutorial menu. There will be three set of training. Details of how you can finish the tutorial can be seen at section "3.4 Battle Menu, Action Menu and Tutorial Explanation" below. After you finished the three tutorial, you will then choose the character you want to play with. Suggestion : In my opinion, Cao Cao is the easiest, Sun Ce is middle, Liu Bei is the hardest. After you have saved at least once, every time you start, you will see the following menu [MAIN MENU] : 1. NEW GAME Select Character Liu Bei Cao Cao Sun Ce Controls (Tutorial, the one that you have just gone through) Basics of Battle Tactical Combo Tactical Link 2. LOAD 3. RESUME BATTLE 4. 2 PLAYER MODE 5. GAME SETTINGS BGM ON/OFF Sound Stereo/Mono Dolby Digital 5.1 On/Off Subtitles On/Off Vibration On/Off Screen Adjust Default 6. HISTORY Menu Explanation Load : You will be asked for the memory slot (1 or 2), and then you choose the saved game you wanted to restore. Resume Battle : This is used to restore in-battle-savegame. For details on saving in-battle-savegame, please see section "3.4 Battle Menu" below. Note that the only way to restore in-battle-savegame is through this menu. Two Player Game : You and your friend will be given random officers, and you can start duking it out. History : After you finished a scenario, and choose to save the history data, you can access this menu. Otherwise, it is locked/empty. This info is contributed by Tarrot, since it is taking me forever to get into finishing one of the walkthrough. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.2 SAVE/LOAD MENU ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When you press select in the map menu, you will be brought to this menu. SAVE LOAD OPTION DATABASE (list of Generals you have owned, throughout your history of playing Dynasty Tactics). I believe all of the menu is self explanatory. For details of the map menu, please see section "3.3 Map Menu" below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.3 MAP MENU ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ General Button usage : "X" select "Triangle" cancel "Square" objective "Circle" move cursor to capital/palace "Select" show up Save/Load Menu "Start" end turn, start movement (army and envoy), and start battle (if there is any) "R1" go to your army "L1" go to your army "R2" show list of your Free Officer "L2" show list of civilian This menu will show up most of the time. This is the menu that pop up when you moved the cursor around in the map, hence the name, "Map Menu". Depending on the cursor position, the menu that show up will be either only the first three option or the complete menu. Complete menu will only show up when you put your cursor on your capital city (city that have your color and have flag on it). By default, every beginning turn, the cursor will automatically moved to your capital city. 1. ARMY (active only if you have army on this location) Select the name of the commander (leader) of an army "X" on table top Move Army (move this army to new location) Form Army (change the members of the army) Disband Army (all army member will return to capital as available general) "X" on any of the four row below the table top (General name) Tactics (used to change the active tactics. Mostly of concern if your officer have learned more tactics than available slots. For details of tactics, see 5.1 Tactic List) Unit Type (to change unit type. For details of unit type, see 5.2 Unit List) Item (to give or remove an item, which can be weapon, book etc. For details of item, please see 5.5 Item List) 2. ENVOY (active only if you have envoy on this location) Select Officer Move (move the envoy to new location) Relieve (cancel the duty and the officer will return to capital as free general) Tactics (used to change the active tactics. Mostly of concern if your officer have learned more tactics than available slots. For details of tactics, see 5.1 Tactic List) Unit Type (to change unit type. For details of unit type, see 5.2 Unit List) Item (to give or remove an item, which can be weapon, book etc. For details of item, please see 5.5 Item List) 3. CIVILIAN (Officer that have not joined any liege/character, active only if there is at least one civilian in this location). Civilian is denoted by white flag in the location. 4. FREE OFFICER (Officer under your command, but not joined into army or tasked as envoy) 5. FORM ARMY Select Commander for Army (only those officer that have flag in their statistic screen will be available for Commander slot) Move cursor up and down to select other position. (First row is Commander, second row is the strategist (this person can use 'tactics links'), third and fourth row is the general/underling). Note on army : There is a limit to the total number of army that you can form, based on the number of city you have. For explanation on the limit, see section 6.1 Question and Answer 6. NAME ENVOY Select Officer that you wanted to utilize as envoy ("Triangle" to get out from selection screen). After selecting, menu no 2 [Envoy] will be enabled, and you can use the envoy (dispatch him to the target location). 7. END TURN (can also be done through the "start" button). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ City type There are many type of point/node in the map. Capital : node that have very big house on it Big City : node that have big house on it City : node that have small house on it (small color on top of house) Battlefields : node that have no house on it (no color on top, can't be conquered) Your HQ is the location that has flag with your color (Sun Ce red, Cao Cao blue, Liu Bei Green) on it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Every general can have three status : - Joined in army (use menu no. 5 [form army] to create it, and menu no. 1 [army] to move it, edit it, view it or disband it). - On duty as envoy (use menu no. 6 [name envoy] to select, menu no. 2 [envoy] to move it, view it or relieve/disband it). If your general have diplomacy skill, then he can be used for creating alliance between other liege and you. - Free (use menu no. 4 [free officer] to view their statistic) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.4 BATTLE MENU, ACTION MENU AND TUTORIAL EXPLANATION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Battle Menu In battle, if you press "select" button, battle menu will appear. SAVE (Save in-battle-save, which can be restored later using option 3 of Main Menu. For details see 3.1 Main Menu). After saving, you can reset or stand by the PS2. The only way to restore the in-battle-save is through the "Main Menu". There can only be one in-battle-save per memory card. AUTO (let the computer play for you). GAME SETTINGS DATABASE (of General that are currently in battle). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Start of Battle, Formation During the start of the battle, you will be asked to select which formation you wanted to use. Based on the terrain type, there will be different formation available for you to choose. Depending on the formation you choose, all of your strategist will get additional tactic that is the result of formation. For which formation resulted in what tactic, see section "5.6 Formation List". The rules to determine which Commander will be CC is based on ??(not clear yet). My theory is 1. Army that have the liege in it. 2. Army that have the highest average level of officers in them This theory has not been tested yet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Battle End Battle will end if one of thing happens : 1. Your CC (the one that have big flag) is Knocked out (have 0 soldier). This will result in you losing the battle. 2. Enemy CC is K.O (defeated or captured). This will result in you winning the battle. 3. Days reached zero. The attacking side lose. The side that loses the battle will release all of enemy officers captured during the battle, while the winning side will keep all enemy officers they captured during battle. Example : Sun Ce are attacking Liu Biao. In Sun Ce side, Cheng Pu was captured by Liu Biao. In Liu Biao side, Gan Ning was captured by Sun Ce. If Sun Ce win, Sun Ce will get Gan Ning, while he retain (not lose) Cheng Pu. Should Liu Biao win, Liu Biao will get Cheng Pu, while retaining Gan Ning. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ During battle, every officer will do the following phase : 1. Move 2. Decide on the facing direction. 3. Choose from a list of menu (attack, bow, done, tactic, destroy, heal, build entice, lure, melee, press) Move phase will show the square that the officer can move to, which is denoted by blue square. Red square mean a square that the unit can move to, and the officer can do tactics on this square. Decide on direction to face will determine what square you can attack, and also whether you can do any tactic on that direction. Direction arrow that were colored red mean that you can do tactic if you are facing that direction. Choose from ACTION MENU : 1. ATTACK: will show up if you officer is facing an enemy unit. 2. BOW: will show up if your officer is an archer type unit, and in your direction, exist enemy that you can shoot. 3. DONE: if you do-not-want-to/can-not do anything. 4. TACTIC: will show up if you put your officer on the red square, and face the right direction (usually toward enemy, but not always, depending on the unit's available tactics). After you choose tactic, if your officer is a strategist, you will be given another option : USE (first row) and LINK (second row). For explanation of [Use] and [Link], and their difference, please see "Tutorial Explanation" below. 5. DESTROY: will show up if your unit is in front of destructible things (like castle gate, fence, depot, tower). 6. BUILD : will only show up if your unit is builder or heavy arms type, and fulfill the requirement of at least one of the sub command. For details of the sub command, see section "5.2 Unit List" 7. HEAL : Will only show up if your unit is special type, and your front is ally unit. This will also remove confused status of the ally. 8. ENTICE : Will only show up if your unit has spy skill, adjacent to enemy unit, and enemy unit has morale less than 40. Some general, especially the one in the CC position, are immune to entice (can not be enticed). Once the unit successfully execute [entice], the unit will leave the battlefield together with enticed unit, and will show up in the capital. 9. LURE : Can only be used by Crossbow unit. 10. MELEE : Can only be used by Pikemen unit. 11. PRESS : Can only be used by Brigadiers unit. Every battle will last no more than 30 days. Every beginning of day, there will be a countdown of days, beginning with 29, and counting down. Once the countdown reach zero, the attacking army automatically lose. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Turn Every beginning of day, every unit will have a big number floating on top of it. This number signify the move list. Unit that have number 1 will move first, then the unit that have number 2, then unit number 3, and so on. After every move, every unit will have their number decreased by one (unit no 2 become unit no 1, unit no 3 become unit no 2, and so on), unless the unit is tied up in the [tactic link] or became confused. Unit that is tied up in [tactic link] (for detail see tutorial explanation) will have a cage surrounding them, while confused unit animation will keep on turning and turning until they are not confused anymore. The number is based on the morale of unit, which in turn are based on "Leadership" capabilities of officers in the beginning of battle. The higher the morale value of an unit, that unit will move earlier. Example: Your have Cao Cao and Xiahou Dun, while enemy have Sun Ce and Zhou Yu. Morale of Cao Cao is 54, Xiahou Dun is 42, Sun Ce is 53, Zhou Yu is 41. Therefore, Cao Cao will move first, then Sun Cen second, Xiahou Dun third, Zhou Yu fourth. Note : The morale can be changed by many things, like tactic (example : [awe] will decrease enemy morale, while [revive] will increase allied morale), depot (increase allied morale), healing. If you wanted to setup tactic combo, it is very important to also consider the morale of the unit, but based on the move list at the beginning of turn (morale changes in the turn does not affect current move list, it will only affect next turn move list. On the beginning of the turn, sometime you will also be awarded trump. This will be executed by your strategist. My theory is that trump is not random, it is awarded based on formation of your army/enemy army, or any other condition. This event can also depend on your advisor intelligence. I will need to do more research on this subject/area. Some of the special event : - Make one of the enemy unit confused - Change one unit turn to the last (biggest number or last to move in a turn) - Enjoy the skill effect (example : Guard) - Increase all of our general's morale (+5), while decreasing all of enemy general's morale (-5) For detailed list of trump, see section 5.8 Trump List. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tutorial Text This section is for those that miss some of the finer point in battle. This cover all the text that is shown during the tutorial mode. I use the following convention: Front mean the current facing of the unit Left mean the left side of current facing of the unit Right mean the right side of current facing of the unit Back mean the behind of current facing facing of the unit If unit is facing north, then front=North, left=West, right=East, back=South If unit is facing West, then front=West, left=South, right=North, back=East Tutorial 1 : General Battle This is a short tutorial explaining the flow of battle and the method for giving orders. The number that appears above each unit is its turn for this round. The unit with the highest morale moves first, regarless of whether it is friend or foe. Let's try giving orders. Guan Yu's unit has the highest morale, so its turn comes first. Begin by selecting the unit's destination with directional pad, then press X to confirm. There are various types of terrain, each with its own level. Movement between squares that vary by two or more levels is impossible. For example, to move from plains to river, you have to go by way of shoals. From plains to mountain, you must go by way of hills. Liu Bei's turn is next. Order his unit using the same process. To view detailed information on a unit, move the cursor over that unit and press "square". When it's the turn of an enemy unit, they move in a similar fashion. This ends one round. Now you move to the next round. Again, order is determined by morale. If your unit is adjacent to, and facing, an enemy unit, you can [attack]. Attacking from the side or rear is more effective than from the front. All officers have certain Tactics that they can use. These tactics can be used whenever specific conditions have been met. Squares where Tactics can be used are highlighted in red. Move to the red square and press "X". Red arrows show the directio you need to face to use a tactics. Select the direction shown by a red arrow. Select a tactic using "X". You can confirm conditions needed to use a tactic by pressing "R2". Using up and down on the "Left analog", you can change the camera's zoom. Use the "Right analog" to change the camera angle. Once you've used a tactics, it becomes disabled until the next battle. However, if you defeat an enemy unit, one tactic is randomly restored to you. Additionally, you can sometimes steal an enemy tactic when you either attack from behind or defeat them with a tactic. Proceeding in this manner, you have 30 days to gain victory by defeating the enemy commander. If time runs out, either the side with the least troops, or the attacking side, loses. All right, let's see if you can defeat the enemy in 30 days. Tutorial 2 : Tactical Combos Tactical combos are one of the most important features of this game. Once a tactics has been used, other tactics whose conditions have been met will be triggered. Only the top tactics can be used in a combo. When the proper conditions are met, it will be triggered. In the case of Xiahou Dun's unit, the top tatics is [awe]. If its conditions are met, a tactical combo will follow. If you wish to change the order of your equipped tactics, press "O". Let's change Xiahou Yuan's top tactic to [charge]. Press "O". All right, let's try a tactical combo. Select a red square destination and red direction. Select a tactics using "X". The more tactics combined, the greater the effect. However, tactics from units unrelated to a previously used tactic will not be triggered. Now, try to win this battle combining as many tactics as you can. Result : Xiahou Dun (one eyed officer) will do tactic attack, and as result of this tactic attack, the enemy will move in front of Xiahou Yuan, and Xiahou Yuan will attack the enemy using his tactic (alway first row tactic). If you have not changed Xiahou Yuan tactic, then you will only get two attack, one from Cao Cao and another from Xiahou Dun. Tutorial 3 : Tactical Links Lastly, let's cover tactical links, and how strategists play a very important role in using them. You can select a tactic without immediately using it. This is called a Tactical Link. Only strategists can create a tactical link. A tactical link is released as a result of an allied unit using a tactic, regardless of the ally location. Also, the Link's target is unable to move. Now let's try using a link. From this point, we will not restrict your actions. We will give advice, but the decision is up to you, so be careful. Without moving, select [done] for Sun Ce. First, using Zhou Yu, link the tactic [muddle]. Have Huang Gai use [boost] on Sun Ce. How did it go ? When its turn comes, an enemy unit that has been targeted with a Link will attempt to free itself. If it fails, that unit will be unable to do anything for one turn. If it is successful, the targeted Link is broken, and the morale of the unit that created the Tactical Link will decrease. Another thing to remember : If the unit that created the tactical link is attacked, it takes heavy damage and the Link is broken. Activities on the battlefield help officers to accumulate Deeds. As the number of Deeds grows, the officer advances in rank. When an officer is promoted, they gain abilities depending on their current unit type. Occasionally, the also learn new Tactics at that time. If you want to save data and quit during a battle, use "select" to call up the Options menu. Now it is time to begin a true saga. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.5 UNIT STATISTIC EXPLANATION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unit Statistic Screen 1 ASCII (Unit/Troop focus) ---------------------------------------------- | ___________ _____________ | | | | Flag | Upper | | | | | | | | | | Portrait | | Axis | | | | | | | | | | | |Left Right| | | ----------- ------------- | | | | Name : | | Skill : | | Troops : Deeds : | | EXP : Level : | | Type : | | Item : | | | ---------------------------------------------- Unit Statistic Screen 2 ASCII (General focus) ---------------------------------------------- | ___________ _____________ | | | | Flag | Upper | | | | | | | | | | Portrait | | Axis | | | | | | | | | | | |Left Right| | | ----------- ------------- | | _____________ | | Name : | | | | Skill : | Active | | | _______________ | Tactic List | | | | | | | | | | Friend List | | | | | | | | | | | --------------- ------------- | ---------------------------------------------- To change from screen 1 to screen 2 and vice versa, press "square" button. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Screen 1 explanation Portrait is the portrait of the general. If there is a flag symbol, then it means that you can use this officer to become Commander of your army. If there is no flag, then you can not use this officer to become CC, but he can be in the other three position. In the upper right part of general's (unit) screen, there is a picture of three axis. This three axis represent general statistics, and their meaning is as follows: Up Axis : Strength (short : STR) Left Axis : Intelligence (short : INT) Right Axis : Leadership (short : LEA) Name : It is the name of the general. The English name is usually two or three word. The name in Chinese is usually 4 character/kanji (chinese character), but the English name will use the first two or three character. Example : Guan Yu's complete name in Chinese is Guan Yu Yun Chang, but in English, he is known as Guan Yu. Skill : Is a skill that the general inherently have. When the situation is right (fulfill the trigger requirement), then the effect will be activated. When you are in battle, the general that have their skill activated will be having an aura in his unit animation (aura is like the unit is on fire). For detail of the skill, please see section "5.4 Skill list" Troops : the maximum value of this is closely tied to the level the officer is. The formula is as follows : (Level + 2)* 1000. So, if for example Sun Ce is level 4, then the maximum value of his soldier amount is 6000. If the value is not maximum, then it will automatically increase each turn, provided that you put the general in "Capital", "Big City" or "City" node, and your supply line (connection between current location and capital was not cut-off. In "fort" node, the general will NOT increase his soldier value toward maximum value. For detail of node, see section "3.3 Map Menu". EXP : It is the value of the training that the entire troops received. This will affect the starting morale of the troops in the battle. The higher the value, the better. To increase the training value, you need to have the officer participate in a war and win it (+3 for main army, +2 for second army). Every officer have sets of training value, one for each soldier type/ unit type. This value is closely related to the unit type. Training value for a soldier type will not increase because of an increase in other soldier type. Example : In my game, Huang Gai have a higher training value (34) if he is an archer unit. For infantry type, his training value is 30. Type : There can be several unit type and their subtype (for details see section "5.2 Unit List"). For summary, the differences between unit type is as follows : Infantry : Short range, normal movement, Standard attack, High defence. Archer : Long range, normal movement, weaker attack, weaker defence. Cavalry : Short range, fast to front, High attack, standard defence. Special : to be used to purposes other than war (heal, create tower). Every officer has a fixed unit type. If he can only have two soldier type, for example infantry and bow, then this will not change at all during the game. For detail of each officer, please see "5.3 General List" Deeds : Every battle have possibility to increase this value. The higher the deeds value, the better, since this value determine the level of the general. Level : Level value is determined by Deeds value. The range is as follows (still in draft, not finished yet) Lvl From - To Tactics Formula Start Formula Increase 0 : 0 20 1 : 20 - 70 3 20 60 2 : 87 - 178 3 80 100 3 : 183 - 319 3 180 140 4 : 327 - 499 4 320 180 5 : 500 - 717 4 500 220 6 : 722 - 979 4 720 260 7 : 980 - 1269 5 980 300 8 : 1283 - 1610 5 1280 340 9 : 1633 - 1992 5 1620 380 10 : 2025 - 2338 6 2000 420 11 : 2582 - 2784 6 2420 460 12 : 2894 - 3330 6 2880 500 13 : 3380 540 14 : 3920 580 15 : 4500 620 16 : 5120 660 Actual result, based on game result is in the From - To column. I have deduced the formula used to determine the limit of next level, and I put it on the above table as formula start and formula increase. Formula start is the starting point of the level, and the formula end is (formula start of next level - 1). If you examine the "formula increase", you will see that "formula increase" will increase by 40 every level. Next level formula start = current level formula start + current level formula increase. Example : Your character is level 3, he will increase if his deeds became 320 or more, or 180 + 140 Based on the table above, if the officer's deeds have moved him/her into a next level area, then the general will: 1. Increase "maximum soldier amount" value by 1000/level. 2. Increase their statistics (STR, INT, LEA) by 4/level. This increase will be distributed based on the "type" that the officer have during the level increase. See "5.2 Unit List" for list of unit type and sub-type, including their distribution of statistics increase. 3. Acquire new tactic (possible, but not always) Example : Sun Ce deeds increase from 310 to 400. It means his level will increase from level 3 to level 4. The effect of the level increase will increase his maximum soldier from 5,000 to 6,000. Since Sun Ce is using Infantry, sub type Spearmen, then the 4 increase of statistics will be distributed as follows : STR 2, INT 1, LEA 1. If Sun Ce is using Archer, sub type Crossbow, then his increase will be distributed as follows : STR 0, INT 1, LEA 3. Item : Item that were used by the general. One officer can use only one item at a time, but the item can be changed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Screen 2 explanation Active Tactic List : List of Active Tactic, strategem that the officer can use in battle. The maximum I have encountered so far is 6 active tactics. There is a difference between tactics learned and active tactics. Active tactics is the ones that is shown in the unit screen and during battle. But learned tactics can only be seen during changing tactics screen. It is possible that your learned tactics is less than the available active tactics slot. If that is the case, then you will have empty slot, which you can only fill after you learn new tactic. Example : Sun Ce is a level 6 general, he have learned 5 tactics, but he can only use 4 of them for his use in battle. Friend List : This show all the general this unit is friendly with. Example: In Zhou Yu friend list, Sun Ce is named there, so Zhou Yu is friendly with Sun Ce. Some of the effect of being friendly that I have noticed so far : 1. You can recruit a civilian using the general he is friendly with. To refer back to the example, if Zhou Yu is a civilian, he can be recruited by Sun Ce. To recruit Zhou Yu character, you can : a put Sun Ce in an army (Sun Ce can be the Commander, strategist or even the general, his position in the army does not matter). Then move the army that contain Sun Ce to the location where Zhou Yu reside. b name Sun Ce as envoy, and move Sun Ce to the location where Zhou Yu reside. In beginning of the next turn, Zhou Yu will automatically ask to join you. You can choose "X" to accept, or choose "Triangle" to reject him. The difference between the above two method is method A is slower (4 node as opposed to 6 node for envoy), could not move into location without fight, but can change at any time (using Arm Form menu). Note about recruiting : If Zhou Yu does not have Sun Ce's name in Zhou Yu's friend list, but Sun Ce have Zhou Yu name in Sun Ce's friend list, Sun Ce can still recruit Zhou Yu. 2. When traveling together in an army, there is a possibility of an interaction between friendly generals. In cases I have encountered so far, the result can be : - increase in deeds - new tactic that is teached by the officer's friend - increase in statistics (STR, INT, LEA) - increase in EXP. Please be aware that friend list may change from one task/chapter to another. The friend list can also be a little bit random from game to game. Example : when Zhuge Jin show up, he has only Zhang Zhao in his friend list. But in later task, the list will change to include Zhuge Liang name. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.6 GENERAL TACTIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Try as much as possible to daisy-chain tactics (combo tactics). You can capture enemy general if you hit him hard and his soldier amount become zero. At the end of combo, there will be a message. One message say that the general escape, while another message say that the general is captured. - If you are given a certain amount of time to do task, and you can finish it earlier, delay the finish until the last moment so you can do other things like recruiting general, conquering city (if allowed), get into more war since you were attacked continuosly (see Sun Ce Campaign, Task 6A). - Remember that general that does not have the full soldier allowed, will only replenish its soldier if staying at city, not at fort. So try to avoid putting your general in a fort. Replenishment rate varied, but I am not sure what factor it depend on. It could be level of the general, type of city he is on. Minimize movement for this general, since moving him around will lessen his replenishment (around 50% decrease). You can also edit the army so the officer become free officer, since free officer replenish faster. - Make use of the soldier type and their distribution of attribute increase. For general with high intelligence, it is better to use the special unit type, while for general with high strength, it is better to use the cavalry type. - Please note the statistics of the general, and select the tactics that he is best at. High strength general select STR tactics, while highly intelligent officer select INT tactics. - Also note that some skill will give unlimited tactic (example : [Menace] and [Conqueror] give unlimited use of STR tactics), so for officer that have [menace] or [conqueror], choose your active tactic using STR tactics, and unit type that give excellent increase in STR (example : cavalry). - Most skill will be actived if your morale is over 80. If your general have skill that give unlimited tactic, use depots to increase your morale, or skill like revive, let them activate their skill, and you can use the same tactics over and over again. Using depots is much better. Once you got tactics like [Pit] and [Taunt], build depot, hang around (not move forward), once your morale is over 80 and your skill activated, just use [Pit] and [Taunt] over and over again. - The terrain should be considered when you are executing Pit tactics, or for that matter any tactis that get the enemy to move, since those tactic will only be succesfull if the enemy can move toward the target square. So if any of the square have difference of more than 1 level, you can not execute Pit Tactic. Use [Taunt] instead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Contribution from Michael Martin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How you handle the battles in the game will depend a lot on your usual approach to these sorts of games. Do you hang back and wait for the enemy to come to you, or do you charge them? Do you surround and isolate or send your armies out to duke it out one-on-one? My usual strategy is to obtain generals with the Pit and Taunt abilities as soon as possible and use them to pull enemy generals across the field into traps of 3 to 5 units and eliminate half of the enemy army before they can cross the field to do battle. This strategy is almost always successful, and makes resting in between battles or switching out damaged generals unnecessary. When using this strategy high morale is key (I almost always use the Scale formation for the extra Revive abilities) so that your units act first and you have time to set up your trap and trigger it. Morale is also important because if you have the Strategy ability equipped on one or more of your generals with Pit or Taunt, you can use it to pull unit after unit across the field and deal with them 1 on 10 (you ARE using two Spies every battle, right?). Also important to do immediately is target any and all enemy units that have Pit or Taunt before worrying about anyone else. These are the guys who can screw up this strategy by pulling one or more of your units across the battlefield. Even if your general survives this (and all the other moves his army pulls on you), they’re liable to be quite damaged by the end of the battle. I try to make a point of capturing all enemy generals I see with either Pit or Taunt in their list so the enemy can’t use them in any subsequent fights. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ End of Michael Martin contribution To be completed later ============================================================================== 4. SCENARIO WALKTROUGH ============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4.1 LIU BEI CAMPAIGN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ M Meeva (for more details, see the thank you section) is the one writing the walkthrough in this section, since I am still in the Sun Ce scenario, and it will be too long before I start on Liu Bei path. M Meeva walktrough start here ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As a quick note, Liu Bei's Campaign is considered the hardest of the three rulers and with good reason. So if you haven't played much of the game or really know about combos I suggest saving Liu Bei's campaign until you have a bit more play time with the game. Also, to make his campaign easier I suggest that you learn how to set up a high number of combos so you will capture every enemy general you face. This will help you in the long run. Also to keep some consistency with the rest of the FAQ I'll try and follow Michael Martin's format. Endings : I might do a flow chart of Liu Bei's endings, but right now its getting quite confusing to map out Liu Bei's path, especially since his path always seems to give more than one option, but we'll see... -----------Events:----------- ============================================================================= EVENT 1 - OATH IN THE GARDEN ============================================================================= Objective: Defeat Cao Ren Starting officers: Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei Opposing officers: Cao Ren, Yue Jin, Li Dian This battle is pretty simple and should not give you much trouble. I suggest capturing Yue Jin and Li Dian as well. Heck restart if you can't get both of them, you'll need every officer you can get, especially in the early stages of Liu Bei's campaign. Also note that Cao Ren is uncapturable, and since he is the leader make sure that you defeat him after you capture Li Dian and Yue Jin. Post-event: [Occupy Xiao Pei] ============================================================================= EVENT 2 - LU BU, HONORED GUEST ============================================================================= Objective: (A) Ally with Lu Bu within the time given or (B) Fight Lu Bu within the time given (C) Do nothing (Not listed in the game objectives) Turns: 5 Turns Year: 195 Capital: Xia Pi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Although the game gives you two options there is a "hidden" option so to speak, and that involves not attacking or becoming allies with Lu Bu in the time given. It should be noted that doing this will eventually lead you to the same path as if you fought Lu Bu, but this is for those wondering how to unlock the scene 3b. Also since Liu Bei lacks a lot of men at the beginning its important to recruit everyone you possibly can. It might be time consuming be every so often be sure to check the Civilian List and Officer List (by pressing L2, R2) and see each of their friend list. If your officer are friends with someone and they haven't been picked up yet (shown in white) go get them. Also if the civilians are friends with one of you officers (in Liu Bei's case the color will be green), send that officer to recruit them. This will help in the long run as you will have plenty of guys to spare, although you probably won't even use most of them, but its better than letting the enemy have them and use them against you. And of course if they do use men against you, be sure to capture as many of their guys as possible. Also one final tip, more often than not the game gives you more than enough turns to complete an objective. Use this to you advantage to recruit and fight/capture as many enemy generals as possbile before completing an objective. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll have some freedom in this round as no one will attack you. So take your time to recruit whoever you can this round. Turn 1: 1. Remove Guan Yu's item, the Blue Dragon. - Note that Guan Yu already has the ability given by the Blue Dragon, and it would be put to better use on someone else of your choosing. 2. Remove Guan Yu from your army and appoint him as an Envoy. - Send Guan Yu to recruit Zhou Cang 3. Move one army unit to occupt the vacant Lang Ye [Occupy Lang Ye] Turn 2: 1. Move Guan Yu to Zhou Cang's spot to recruit him the next turn. 2. Move Liu Bei to the captial so he can recruit Jian Yong. [Jian Yong visits Liu Bei] [Guan Yu brings in Zhou Cang] [Mi Zhu joins] Turn 3: 1. Relieve Guan Yu as an envoy and place him back into the army. 2. Form a 2nd army if you have not already done so. 3. If you want to ally with Lu Bu start sending a Diplomat to Lu Bu's capital Turn 4: 1. Appoint Mi Zhu as an envoy and recruit Mi Fang 2. Keep moving your Diplomat to Lu Bu's capital if you want to ally with him. [Mi Zhu brings in Mi Fang] Turn 5: 1. Appoint Mi Fang as an Envoy to recruit Cao Bao 2. Move your Diplomat to Lu Bu's capital and ally with him -OR- 2. Move both of your armies to Xiao Pei and declare war on Lu Bu - If you take this option be sure to capture as many generals as you can [Xiao Pei occupied] -OR- 2. Do nothing Depending on what you did in your final turn will determine the next path that you will take. If you allied with Lu Bu see Event 3a, if you didn't do anything see Event 3b, if you attacked Lu Bu see Event 3c. ============================================================================= EVENT 3a - LU BU, ALLY ============================================================================= Objective: Wipe out Yuan Shu within the time given Turns: 12 Turns Year: 196 Capital: Xia Pi [Mi Fang brings Cao Bao] Note: Now that you are allies with Lu Bu if you don't do anything Lu Bu will wipe out all of Yuan Shu's forces and take over all his cities but one. I suggest that you use both of your armies and do the fighting yourself, so that you can create two full armies as well as gain the experience and deeds for your own guys. Turn 1: 1. Move both of you armies to Jiao and declare war on Yuan Shu 2. Take Liu Bei out of your army and send him to recruit Zhao Yun and Gongsun Zan. [Jia has been occupied] Turn 2: 1. Move both of your armies to Ru Nan. 2. Continue moving Liu Bei towards Zhao Yun and Gongsun Zan 3. Check your Officer and Civilian list to see if other officers can be recruited. [Ru Nan has been occupied] [Mo Tzu found] [Zhao Yun vists Liu Bei] Turn 3: 1. Move one of your armies to Shou Chun and occupy it. 2. You should now be able to form two full armies at this point, do so. [Shou Chun has been occupied] Turn 4 - 11: 1. You should now be free to recruit whoever you can at this point without having to worry too much about Yuan Shu attacking or Lu Bu attacking and taking over anymore of Yuan Shu's cities, take the time to recruit everyone you can. Turn 12: 1. Move your armies to Wan to destory Yuan Shu. [Wan has been occupied] [The 6 books found] Once you've finished see event 4a. ============================================================================= EVENT 3b - LU BU'S INVASION ============================================================================= Objective: Wipe out Lu Bu within the time given Turns: 8 Turns Year: 196 Capital: Xia Pi [Mi Fang brings Cao Bao] Now is the time for you to start battling again. Lu Bu is quite powerful with some strong generals under him as well. Do your best to capture every general Lu Bu's got. Also be sure to defeat Lu Bu at least once with a 3-hit combo. You will get the Crescent item from him, which gives the skill Menace, one of my favorite skills. You will also become allies with Cao Cao, and if you attack Lu Bu's captial with just one army Cao Cao will send one of his armies to assist you. You will want to do the attacking with your own guys as you will want to receive the EXP and deeds for your own guys. This alliance will also help recruit some guys faster. Turn 1: 1. Move both of your armies and occupy Xiao Pei - Lu Bu will start attacking you at this point, be sure to capture as many of his guys as you can, most notably Chen Gong and Zhang Liao [Xiao Pei occupied] Turn 2 -7: 1. Move both of your armies to Lu and hold position there. 2. Once you've occupied Lu you should have enough cities to create two full armies. Take Liu Bei out of one of them and use him to recruit Zhao Yun and Gongsun Zan two powerful guys you will want. Also recruit anyone else that you can. 3. Also be sure to at least recruit Chen Gui Turn 8: 1. Attack Lu Bu's capital Once you've finished Lu Bu, see Event 4b. ============================================================================= EVENT 3c - LU BU'S ASSAULT ============================================================================= Objective: Wipe out Lu Bu within the time given Turns: 8 Turns Year: 196 Capital: Xia Pi [Mi Fang brings Cao Bao] Hopefully in the last turn you managed to capture some if not all of Lu Bu's generals, and with the occupation of Xiao Pei you should be able to add at least one more general to your army, be sure to do so. Also note that you have now become allies with Cao Cao,and by allying with Cao Cao this will also help you recruit guys Zhao Yun and Gongsun Zan much easier, and without worry of being kicked out for being in someone else's territory. Finally be sure to defeat Lu Bu with a 3-hit combo at least once to get the Crescent item from him. This gives you the skill Menance, a nice skill indeed. Turn 1: 1. Move both of your armies to Lu. Turn 2 - 7: 1. I suggest waiting at Lu until the final turn and attack Lu Bu in the final turn. This should give you an oppurtinity to level up your guys as well as take Lu Bu's men for yourself, as Lu Bu will attack you every so often. 2. Be sure to AT LEAST RECRUIT ZHAO YUN, as well as anyone else that you can. Turn 8: 1. Attack Lu Bu's capital Once you've finished Lu Bu, see Event 4b. ============================================================================= EVENT 4a - LU BU, CRAZED TIGER ============================================================================= Objective: Occupy Xin Pe within the time given Turns: 4 Turns Year: 205 Capital: Wan Turn 1 - 3: 1. Hopefully you still have two full armies from the last round. If you wait until the last turn you should have a few guys automatically join you. Turn 4: 1. Move both your armies to Xin Pe and a spy if you got one. - Be sure to capture as many guys as you can. Also be sure to kill Lu Bu with at least a 3 hit combo to get his Crescent item. Once you've captured Xin Pe, see Event 5a. ============================================================================= EVENT 4b - GUAN YU'S ESCAPE ============================================================================= Objective: Stop Cao Cao's movement South within the time given Turns: 2 Turns Year: 207 Capital: Xin Ye Turn 1: 1. Move both of your armies to Wan to occupy it. - Note if you occupy Wan Cao Cao will attack you twice instead of once. If your confident that your guys are strong enough to fight Cao Cao try to take as many of his officers as you can. This will also keep your capital safe from attack if you can repel Cao Cao's army. 2. If possible, try to recruit one or two guys near you without having to take out any guys from your armies. Turn 2: 1. Hold your position at Wan Once you've finished that, see event 5b. ============================================================================= EVENT 5a - LU BU, ONCE AGAIN ============================================================================= Objective: (A) Ally with Lu Bu and occupy Xu Chang within the time given (B) Recapture Wan within the time given Turns: 6 Turns Year: 206 Capital: Xin Ye Turn 1: 1. If you want to ally with Lu Bu I suggest doing it in this turn - This will also help speed up the process of recruting some guys. -OR- 1. Take the time to recruit whoever and on the final turn attack Wan To be finished at another date ============================================================================= EVENT 5b - JING IN TURMOIL ============================================================================= Objective: (A) Stop Cao Cao's movement South within the time given (B) Attack any of Liu Zong's cities (not listed in game) Turns: 2 Turns Year: 208 Capital: Xin Ye Turn 1: 1. Move your main army to Wan and hold your position there. 2. If you didn't create that third army earlier do so now, and occupy Yong An if you already haven't, in fact move that army there regardless of if you've already occupied it or not. Turn 2: 1. Keep your main force at Wan and hold your position there. -OR- 1. Keep your main force at Wan and hold your position there and use the other army you used to occupy Yong An and use them to attack either Shang Yong or Xiang Yang and declare war on Liu Zong. - Personally I'd recommened attacking Xiang Yang. Your third army might be at a slight disadvantage, considering at this point you can probably only put three people in it, but if you have an extra spy it evens things up a bit. I'd also recommened just aiming for Liu Zong. Doing this will make the next scenario much eaiser. If you declared war on Liu Zong's see event 6c, otherwise see Event 6d. ============================================================================= EVENT 6a - ??? ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 6b - ??? ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 6c - BATTLE FOR JING ============================================================================= Objective: Occupy Shang Yong, Xiang Yang, Jiang Ling, and Jiang Xia within the time given. Turns: 12 Turns Year: 208 Capital: Xin Ye Turn 1: 1. Move your two main armies to Wan and let them hold position there. - Note that Cao Cao will still attack you so you will probably want to place your strongest guys in this army. 2. If you didn't attack and occupy Xiang Yang in the last scenario do so now. - Note that if you already occupied Xiang Yang in the last scenario you can now fill up that third army as well as create one more. Do so and use these armies to attack Liu Zong. 3. You should also start recruting people again as you will actually have time in this scenario to actually recruit people. Turn 2 - 11: 1. Keep your main force at Wan. 2. Use your secondary army to take over the rest of Liu Zong's cities. I suggest waiting until the final turn to take over the last city. - This will give you the oppurtinity to capture more of Cao Cao's men as well as recruit more people. You won't have to worry too much about capturing Liu Zong's men. Once you wipe him out you'll be free to recruit all of his men. 3. Continue to recruit people. Turn 12: 1. Take over the last of Liu Zong's cities. Once you've taken over the last required city see event 7b. ============================================================================= EVENT 6d - SLEEPING DRAGON ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 7a - ??? ============================================================================= ============================================================================= EVENT 7b - THE GREATER GOOD ============================================================================= Objective: (A) Stop Cao Cao's movement South withing the time given and (B) Occupy Chang Sha, Gui Yang, Ling Ling, and Wu Ling Turns: 6 Turns Year: 209 Capital: Xiang Yang [Zhuge Liang joins] Turn 1: 1. Cao Cao will continue to attack you once again so place your strongest armies in Wan to repel him. - Note, when Cao Cao's forces attack and you do not completely defeat everyone in the unit, or everyone with the general capability, when defeated that army will get put in Nan Mi. If this happens that army will try to occupy Shang Yong. I suggest moving your army from Wan to Nan Mi and finish off the rest of their forces then move them back to Wan. 2. Continue to recruit whoever you can. -ALSO- 3. If you want to occupy the four cities to the south send your second army and some spies down there on the first turn. If not just hold Cao Cao off for six turns and wait for the scenario to end. Turn 2: 1. Hold your position at Wan -AND/OR- 2. Attack and occupy Chang Sha. Turn 3: 1. Continue to hold position at Wan. -AND/OR- 2. Attack and occupy Gui Yan. Turn 4: 1. Hold position at Wan once again. -AND/OR- 2. Attack and occupy Ling Ling. Turn 5: 1. Once again keep holding your position at Wan. -AND/OR- 2. Move your army to Shiang Nan and declare war on Jin Xuan - Note that Jin Xuan's army is usually in this area at this turn and blocks you from attacking his only city. Its best to attack him here and take his men as well as give you a chance to level up your guys. Turn 6: 1. Continue to hold your position at Wan. -AND/OR- 2. Attack and occupy Wu Ling If you took over Chang Sha, Gui Yang, Ling Ling, and Wu Ling see event 8f, if you just held off Cao Cao's attack see event 8e. ============================================================================= EVENT 7c - ZHUGE LIANG IN WU ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 8a - ??? ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 8b - ??? ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 8c - ??? ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 8d - ??? ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 8e - ??? ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 8f - ZHUGE LIANG'S PLAN ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ============================================================================= EVENT 8g - CAO CAO'S FATE ============================================================================= To be completed at a later date ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ M Meeva walkthough end here. Historically : Liu Bei died on year 223. Guan Yu died on year 220. Zhang Fei died on year ??? (after Guan Yu died) Zhuge Liang died on year 234. To be completed later. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4.2 CAO-CAO CAMPAIGN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Martin (for more details, see the thank you section) is the one writing the walkthrough in this section, since I am still in the Sun Ce scenario, and it will be too long before I start on the Cao Cao path. Michael Martin walktrough start here ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: For purposes of this Walkthrough section, I will distinguish between an "ARMY" and an army. An army is, unless otherwise specified, a single army composed of a commander, a strategist, and two supporting generals. An "ARMY" is a group composed of two full armies, of four units each, and two units with the Spy ability, for a total of ten units on the field. Once you start capturing and recruiting generals in larger and larger quantities, it is always worth it to send out "ARMIES" of ten units each. Even if all your spies do is build structures before combat, heal the occasional unit and perhaps use Revive to raise morale or trigger a chain of tactics, it’s worth it to have them on the field. You can travel with less, but why would you? That said, below I’ll discuss each of the endings for the Cao Cao campaign and the Events leading up to that ending. I will also note where different choices will lead to different paths. You should ALWAYS recruit any spare officer you can using envoys you aren’t using elsewhere, even if the officer is subpar, because each new officer has still other officers on their Friends list which you might want to use. This recruitment chain can make running through your Free Officers list a time consuming process, but it’s also the best way to (A) give yourself as many officers as you need for your armies, and (B) deny the use of as many officers as possible to your enemies. ALWAYS recruit, and ALWAYS try to capture officers whenever you can. You get stronger and your enemies get weaker each time they throw themselves at you if you can pick up one or two generals each time. ALWAYS try and capture at least one general from each new region you invade, as they are usually friends with the people in that region, so when it becomes yours and/or neutral, you can start a recruitment chain with the captured officer and eventually pick up most/all of the officers there. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TURN 1: [Xun Yu and Xu Huang join Cao Cao] 1. Appoint Cao Ren and Xun Yu as envoys. - Send Cao Ren to Chen Liu to recruit Mao Jie (a *very* useful spy, I’ve found). - Send Xun Yu to Luo Yang to recruit Cheng Yu. 2. Send Cao Cao’s army to occupy Lu. [Occupy Lu] [Yu Jin joins Cao Cao] [Envoys bring in Cheng Yu and Mao Jie] TURN 2: 1. Disband envoys Cao Ren and Xun Yu. 2. Form a second army of Li Dian (personal choice, as I like the way his tactics develop -- at later levels he gets All Attack, Aid, Revive, Circle, etc.) (equip w/ Meng De from Cao Cao to give him Overlord), Cheng Yu, Xu Huang and a fourth officer of your choice (I used Xun Yu for now). 3. Equip the Avenger on one of your units not otherwise equipped with an item to increase their strength. 4. Appoint Mao Jie as envoy. 5. Form third army of last four generals (mine is led by Cao Ren). 6. Move all to Jiao. [Xin Ping joins Cao Cao] [Cao Hong joins Cao Cao] TURN 3: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Your actions in this turn will lead to either Event 3A or 3B: - Attacking Yuan Shu --> Event 3A - Attacking Lu Bu --> Event 3B ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- (If attacking Yuan Shu) 1. Move Cao Cao/Li Dian/Mao Jie to Ru Nan. 2. Move Cao Ren to Shou Chun. (If attacking Lu Bu) 1. Move Cao Cao/Li Dian/Mao Jie to Xia Pi. TURN 4: (If attacking Yuan Shu) 1. Battle at Ru Nan. Notes: Try to capture Ji Ling (combo IV or better needed) or any other single officer you can. Post-Battle: [Occupy Ru Nan] [Acquire Item: Mo Tzu] [Occupy Shou Chun] [Yuan Shu’s forces eliminated] [Lu Bu eliminates Liu Bei] [Cao Cao decides to attack Lu Bu] (If attacking Lu Bu) 1. Battle at Xia Pi. Notes: Try to capture Zhang Liao (he’s *very* useful); capture at least one officer to start recruitment chain. Post-Battle: [Occupy Xia Pi] [Acquire Item: Xun Tzu] [Lu Bu’s forces eliminated] [Lu Bu has been killed] [Liu Bei and followers join Cao Cao] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: If you acquire Liu Bei (by attacking Lu Bu), Liu Bei will leave you right after event 3B, so do not use any of his three main officers (Liu Bei, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu) in the armies you use to attack Lu Bu, as you don’t want to give them experience you could better use on officers you’ll get to keep. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================= EVENT 3A – YUAN SHU THE PRETENDER ============================================================================= Objective: Wipe out Lu Bu in the time given Time: 20 turns Year: 198 Capital: Xu Chang TURN 1: 1. Move Cao Cao/Li Dian to Jiao. 2. Move Mao Jie to Ding Tao to recruit Man Chong. 3. Disband Cao Ren’s army (if needed) to form 2 armies with a moderate fighting strength (you’ll outnumber your opponent 8 to 4 anyway) and move both of these armies to invade Wan (both for the territory and to capture the 6 Books item). [Lu Bu declares war on you] [You have declared war on Zhang Xiu] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Lu Bu invaded Shou Chun in my game (it is the logical choice for him), but the two armies in Jiao moved to Shou Chun because it is adjacent and attaacked him. By leaving them in Jiao, you also protect other cities like this. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Battle at Shou Chun] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Try to capture/defeat as many officers as possible to weaken Lu Bu. Try in particular to capture Zhang Liao, as he is very useful. Capturing Gao Shun is pretty easy, and he can be used to recruit in that area later. NOTE: Defeat Lu Bu with a high tactical combo (I did it w/ III) to acquire the Crescent item, which grants Menace. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Battle at Wan] – Try to capture at least one officer to start recruiting. [Occupy Wan] [Acquire Item: 6 Books] [Zhang Xiu’s forces eliminated] TURN 2: 1. Move weaker of western armies to Wei Shing. 2. Check surrounding cities for recruitment. 3. Edit Cao Cao’s or Li Dian’s army to include Man Chong as strategist, and equip Man Chong with 6 Books. 4. Equip the Crescent on one of your officers if you obtained it. 5. Move Cao Cao/Li Dian/Mao Jie to Xiao Pei [Battle]. [Occupy Xiao Pei] [Occupy Wei Shing] TURN 3: 1. Move army from Wei Shing northwest to An Dang. 2. Check for recruitment – in particular, Zhong Yao in Chang An, as he is a second Spy. Xun You can recruit him. [Occupy An Dang] [Sima Lang joins Cao Cao] TURN 4: 1. Move army from An Dang southwest to Tian Shui (location of Harness). 2. Appoint Zhong Yao as envoy and move him to Xiao Pei to complete Cao Cao’s *ARMY*. 3. Recruit new officers. [Occupy Tian Shui] [Acquire Item: Harness] – See Troop-Type Trick in Kong Ming’s Items FAQ. TURN 5: 1. Move army from Tian Shui south to Wu Du. 2. Upgrade any cavalry units you want using the Harness. 3. Move Cao Cao’s *ARMY* to Xia Pi. [Battle] – If you haven’t, make sure you capture at least one officer from this area to start a recruitment chain. [Occupy Xia Pi] [Acquire Item: Xun Tzu] [Lu Bu’s forces eliminated] [Occupy Wu Du] ============================================================================= EVENT 3B – FATE OF THE BEAST ============================================================================= Objective: Wipe out Yuan Shu and Zhang Xiu Time: 10 turns Year: 198 Capital: Xu Chang Notes: Yuan Shu will declare war on you after you make your first moves, but I recommend disbanding Cao Cao’s army (leave Li Dian’s in the capital) on turn one and recruiting anyway. TURN 1: [Kong Rong brought in by Liu Bei] 1. Send Mao Jie to Ding Tao to recruit Man Chong. 2. Disband Cao Cao’s army. 3. Get all possible recruits. - Send Cao Cao, Gao Shun and Liu Bei to Xia Pi. - Send Guan Yu and Xiahou Dun to Chen Liu. - Send Guo Si to Chang An. 4. Form army of “useless” generals (Liu Bei’s officers not currently recruiting, since he’s going to defect, and anyone else you’re not using to recruit that has poor combat skills -- you only need 2-3 officers in this army, as they won’t fight). - Send this army to Hong Nong. [You should acquire 5-6 or more officers this turn from recruitment, including Chen Gong (has Taunt) and Man Chong (has Pit).] [Yuan Shu has declared war on you] [Jiao has fallen] TURN 2: 1. Disband envoys as needed (esp. Cao Cao, Xiahou Dun, etc.) to reform your armies. *My armies at this time were as follows: Army 1: Can Cao, Chen Gong, Xiahou Dun, Zhang Liao Army 2: Li Dian, Cheng Yu, Xu Huang, Man Chong Spy 1: Mao Jie 2. Move NW army west from Hong Nong to occupy An Ding. 3. Appoint Xun You as envoy and send him to Chang An to recruit Zhong Yao (your second Spy). 4. Form two armies of four generals each from your extra generals. These should be reasonable in fighting strength, but don’t have to be anything special as they’re mostly a deterrent. - Move these armies to one square northwest of Ru Nan. 5. Send Cao Cao/Li Dian/Mao Jie to Jiao (unless Yuan Shu invaded somewhere else). 6. Send Cao Ren’s army (form one of you disbanded it) to Lang Ye. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Yuan Shu will only send a single army of four at you, as his pool of officers isn’t very large. He should not attack any place you have two armies of four -- use this to contain him ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Battle at Jiao] - Capture at least one officer. - Defeat all officers before Yuan Shu to reduce his fighting capability. TURN 3: 1. Move NW army to Tian Shui. 2. Move Cao Ren’s army to occupy Cheng Yang. 3. Appoint Zhong Yao envoy (you obtained him through Xun You at Chang An) 4. Move your first completed *ARMY* (Cao Cao and Li Dian’s armies of four and two spies, Mao Jie and Zhong Yao) to attack Ru Nan. [Occupy Ru Nan] [Acquire Item: Mo Tzu] [Yuan Shu’s forces eliminated] [Occupy Tian Shui] [Acquire Item: Harness] - **see Troop-Type Trick on Kong Ming’s Item FAQ [Occupy Cheng Yang] [Sima Lang Joins Cao Cao] TURN 4: 1. Move NW army south to occupy Wu Du 2. Disband Cao Ren’s army and reform it in the capital (effectively gives you extra movement, as you still get four squares after reforming). - Move reformed army northwest to Hong Nong. 3. Move Cao Cao’s *ARMY* to one square outside of Wan for invasion on Turn 9. [Occupy Wu Du] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: From this point forward, because there’s no way to predict exactly which officers will become available for you, I will not mention recruitment as part of the turn-by-turn moves, but you should always be checking your Friends lists and the Friends lists on civilians and recruiting with envoys every chance you get. NOTE: Sometimes you will have an officer who has someone on their Friends list without being on that civilian’s Friends list. If you check the lists carefully on your Free Officers, you should be able to recruit several extra officers that will otherwise take much longer to obtain. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TURN 5: 1. Move NW army south to occupy Yong An on Turn 6. 2. Move Cao Ren’s army to occupy Wei Shing. [Occupy Wei Shing] TURN 6: 1. Move NW army to occupy Yong An. [Occupy Yong An] TURN 7: 1. Move NW army west then south to occupy Fu Lin on Turn 8. TURN 8: 1. Move NW army to occupy Fu Lin. [Occupy Fu Lin] TURN 9: 1. Move Cao Cao’s *ARMY* to attack Wan. [Occupy Wan] [Acquire Item: 6 Books] (*very* nice item for people w/ Pit or Taunt) [Zhang Xiu’s forces eliminated] ============================================================================= EVENT 4A – THE BEAST DEPARTS ============================================================================= Objective: (A) Occupy Chen Liu, Pu Yang, Ping Yuan, He Nei or Jin Yang; or (B) Negotiate a truce with Yuan Shao Time: 6 turns Year: 200 Capital: Xu Chang ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Your actions in this Event will lead to one of the following: - Occupy Chen Liu then Ally with Liu Bei --> Event 5A - Occupy Chen Liu then occupy Guan Du --> Event 6B - Accept truce with Yuan Shao on any turn --> Event 5C ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Lu Bu has joined Cao Cao] [Sima Yi has joined Cao Cao] [Yuan Shu has requested a ceasefire] – He will send an envoy to you every round you don’t attack him. TURN 1: 1. Send out envoys to recruit all possible from Xia Pi and other nearby cities after your defeat of Lu Bu. 2. Leave Cao Cao’s ARMY intact and in Xu Chang to protect your capital. [Cao Zhen joins Cao Cao] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: If you accept the truce proposal, this Event ends; go to Event 5C. If not, proceed to Turn 2. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TURN 2: 1. Move Cao Cao’s ARMY north to invade Chen Liu. [Occupy Chen Liu] [Liu Bei has proposed to defect] TURN 3: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: If you send an Envoy to Liu Bei, he will defect and ally with you. This leads to Event 5A. If you take this path, Liu Bei will stay with you until event 13A, at which point he’d be quite strong anyway, so feel free to use him and his officers in secondary armies as much as you like. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Move Cao Cao’s ARMY north to Chen Liu. (You get reset after invading. The city is yours, but your army is returned to Xu Chang). 2. Send out recruitment envoys. If you haven’t already obtained him, double check to see if Xu Shu is to the southwest in Xin Ye. Cheng Yu can recruit him, and he has very nice skills for the strategist role – even if you only obtain him to prevent the enemy from using him! 3. Form a second ARMY (with 2 armys of 4 and only 1 spy if you don’t yet have 2 extras) - Move second ARMY east to Xiao Pei. [Battle at Chen Liu] – Capture Tian Feng if possible! His pit tactics are irritating when set against you and he makes a great strategist. TURN 4: 1. Edit existing armies to incorporate Tian Feng (if you captured him) and Xu Shu. [My current armies are as follows: ARMY 1: Cao Cao, Tian Feng, Xiahou Dun, Zhang Liao ARMY 2: Li Dian, Man Chong, Xu Huang, Xu Shu SPY 1: Mao Jie SPY 2: Zhang Yao] 2. Leave Cao Cao’s ARMY in Chen Liu to defend and capture officers while second ARMY moves east to capture Lang Ye and Cheng Yang. TURN 5: 1. Defend Chen Liu with Cao Cao’s ARMY. 2. Capture Lang Ye with second ARMY. [Occupied Lang Ye] TURN 6: 1. Defend Chen Liu with Cao Cao’s ARMY. 2. Capture Cheng Yang with second ARMY. [Occupied Cheng Yang] TURN 7: 1. Split second ARMY and send one army northeast to occupy Dong Lai. 2. Send the second army northwest to occupy Chi. 3. Form an extra army from your reserve officers in the capital and send it northwest to occupy He Nei. 4. If you are allying with Liu Bei, send an Envoy with the Diplomat skill north to Guan Du and leave Cao Cao’s ARMY in Chen Liu. (Leads to Event 5A) If you are occupying Guan Du, Move Cao Cao’s ARMY north to Guan Du. (Leads to Event 6B) [Occupied He Nei] [Occupied Chi] [Occupied Dong Lai] *If attacking Guan Du: [Occupied Guan Du] [Acquired Item: Blue Dragon] – High combo (III or better) from Guan Yu. [Liu Bei’s forces have been eliminated] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: When I chose to invade Guan Du on this turn, I also lost Chen Liu when the AI attacked it on the same turn. You could prevent this by creating a third ARMY from your free officers and moving it north to Chen Liu, but you can also recapture it in Event 6B easily enough.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================= EVENT 4B – ON HEROES ============================================================================= Objective: Wipe Out Liu Bei Time: 8 Turns Year: 199 Capital: Xu Chang TURN 1: 1. Move Cao Cao’s ARMY east to Jiao. 2. Send secondary ARMY north to Chen Liu ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: My army at Jiao got pulled southeast into a battle at Shou Chun, but without its spies, when Liu Bei invaded there. The advantage of moving to Jiao is that you cover all adjacent territories like this, so if Liu Bei invades anywhere on this turn, you’ll engage him.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Item Acquired: Blue Dragon] – High Combo (III or better) from Guan Yu TURN 2: 1. Move Cao Cao’s ARMY northeast to Guang Ling. 2. Move Cao Cao’s two spies to rejoin his ARMY in Guang Ling. 3. Move secondary army from Chen Liu east to Xiao Pei. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: If you move your secondary army to Xiao Pei, make sure it’s combat ready, as Liu Bei’s army will get pulled into combat when you invade. He should already be weakened from battling Cao Cao at Shou Chun, so should be easy to defeat. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Occupied Xiao Pei] TURN 3: 1. Move Cao Cao’s ARMY northwest to Xia Pi. [Occupied Xia Pi] [Liu Bei’s forces eliminated] ============================================================================= EVENT 5A – LIU BEI’S BETRAYAL ============================================================================= Objective: Wipe out Yuan Tan Time: 15 Turns Year: 201 Capital: Xu Chang [Lu Bu, Cheng Dong, and Zhang Liao leave your army] [Liu Bei and his officers join Cao Cao] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: From Event 5A, Liu Bei and his officers should stay with you for most of the rest of the game, so feel free to use them as officers in secondary armies as needed. Mostly they are useful in that they open up a whole new field of officer recruitment, and you should always check carefully whether you can use them in that capacity first. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TURN 1: 1. The first order of business is to reform your armies. The loss of Zhang Liao hurts (if you’ve been using him as much as I have), but you’ll get him back after Lu Bu betrays you and you defeat him again. (You didn’t really think he’d changed, did you?) [For reference, my current armies are as follows: ARMY 1: ARMY 2: SPY 1: Mao Jie SPY 2: Zhang Yao] ============================================================================= EVENT 5B – ============================================================================= Objective: Time: Year: Capital: [UNKNOWN HOW TO REACH THIS EVENT] ============================================================================= EVENT 5C – TRUCE ============================================================================= Objective: Time: Year: Capital: ============================================================================= EVENT 5D – THE NOBLE GUAN YU ============================================================================= Objective: (A) Occupy Chen Liu, Pu Yang, Ping Yuan, He Nei or Jin Yang; or (B) Negotiate a truce with Yuan Shao Time: 6 Turns Year: 200 Capital: Xu Chang [Guan Yu has joined Cao Cao] [Sima Yi has joined Cao Cao] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: This event is basically the same as Event 4A. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================= EVENT 6A – ============================================================================= Objective: Time: Year: Capital: ============================================================================= EVENT 6B – DEATHBED ============================================================================= Objective: Wipe out Yuan Tan Time: 10 Turns Year: 204 Capital: Xu Chang [Guan Yu has joined Cao Cao] [Guo Jia has left the battle front due to illness] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Martin walkthough end here. You will have three generals. Sun Ce, Zhou Yu (strategist) and Huang Gai. I suggest you finish the two that are outside castle. Make yourself familiar with your general's tactic, and combo your tactic as much as possible. It is possible to capture Taishi Ci, if you do the tactical combo using all of your officers (three of them). After defeating the two enemy, use Sun Ce to break down the castle door (remember, use [destroy] to break down castle door), and position Zhou Yu and Huang Gai on the left and right square of Sun Ce. Let Liu Yong approach Sun Ce, while your other units (which were bow unit) attack him from afar. Captured : Taishi Ci, Zhang Ying Go to Task Two. After you win your first battle, you will encounter MAP MENU. Save your game using "select" button, which will cause SAVE/LOAD MENU to appear. Note that since you have not saved anything yet, you will need to use menu "new game" to create a new savegame. NB means Not bad (TL0 is 90 or more, but less than 100), G/Good (TL0 = 100 or more). Go to Task Three. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Task Three : Kingdom of Wu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Objective : Occupy either Lu Kou or Xu Chang within the time given. Time : 10 turns Year : 200 Capital : Jian Ye ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ General Note : This is an conquering and recruiting task. You can not have a fight with Cao Cao or Liu Biao, since once you attack one of them, the task end. Remember that to get any item in a city, you need to conquer it, and you will need to carry minimal two general in an army (one general will not be enough). City that you have conquered will change color to your color (which in Sun Ce case is red). In Jiao Zhi area, you will learn the skill "Pit". Depending on whether you attack Cao Cao or Liu Biao, you will get different result and different next scenario. Attack Liu Biao result : Sun Ce will not die (yet), Sun Quan will not appear (yet). Next Scenario is Year 205. I will explore this branch first. I will refer to this branch as Four A branch. Attack Cao Cao result : Sun Ce will die (which is historically correct), the liege title will transfer to Sun Ce's brother, Sun Quan, and he will inherit Sun Jian's (Sun Ce's and Sun Quan's father) sword. Every battle, let the CC alive (and the sub CC if necessary), and win by having the day counter to zero (defending side will automatically win). On Turn 5, defeat the CC, so that you are free to attack Lu Kou on turn 6. Try to capture as much of Cao Cao's general as possible. If you do it right, you can get 20 or more generals from Cao Cao ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Turn by turn Note : Starting no of generals : 64 generals Bu Zhi, Cai Mao, Cao Bao, Chen Deng, Chen Gui, Chen Jiao, Chen Qun, Chen Wu, Cheng Pu, Ding Feng, Dong Xi, Gan Ning, Gu Yong, Han Dang, Hua Xin, Huang Gai, Huang Zu, Huo Jun, Jiang Qin, Kan Ze, Kong Rong, Lei Bo, Ling Tong, Liu Feng, Liu Qi, Liu Yong, Liu Zong, Lu Fan, Lu Ji, Lu Meng, Lu Xun, Mi Fang, Mi Zhu, Pan Zhang, Pang Tong, Quan Zong, Su Fei, Sun Ce, Sun Qian, Sun Shao, Taishi Ci, Wang Lang, Wen Pin, Xiang Chong, Xiang Lang, Xu Jing, Xu Sheng, Xu Shu, Yan Baihu, Yan Jun, Yan Xing, Yang Xiu, Yu Fan, Zhang Xun, Zhang Ying, Zhang Yun, Zhang Zhao, Zhang Hong, Zhou Tai, Zhou Yu, Zhu Huan, Zhu Ran, Zhu Zhi, Zhuge Jin Turn 1 Recruited : Lu Su by Zhuge Jin (random ??) Your one unit is automatically combined into one unit. Edit your unit so that it became Sun Ce (Sun Ce, Zhou Yu, Taishi Ci, Gan Ning) and move it to Wu Chang. Create Cheng Pu army (Cheng Pu, Pang Tong, Lu Xun, Zhu Huan) and move them to Chai Sang, near Wu Chang. Don't forget to sent any spies you have (Wang Lang & Chen Gui in my case) into Lu Kou or Wu Chang (suggested). Recruit Guan Ping using Liu Feng (or recruit Meng Da using Liu Feng). Turn 2 Recruited : Sun Qian. Move Cheng Pu to Wu Chang. Move Liu Feng to Chen Liu. Cao Cao will attack you. Use combo to get the best general, and defeat all generals, except CC. If you defeat CC, then Cao Cao will not attack you any more, and when you attack Lu Kou, you will encounter Xiahou Dun and Cao Cao himself. But if you let the CC live (by not defeating him, run away and erecting barricade using your three builder general : Zhou Yu, Pang Tong and Lu Xun), and the day counter reach zero, you will automatically win, and Cao Cao will still attack you next turn. This way, you will get more generals. Let Cao Ren alive. Attacking : Cao Ren (CC), Xiahou Yuan (C), Sima Yi(S), Xu Zhu, Xun You, Xun Yu (S), Yan Liang, Yu Jin. Captured : Cao Zhen, Hao Zhao (G), Xu Huang (G), Xu You. Note : Guo Jia, Xiahou Yuan can not be captured. Turn 4 Move Liu Feng to He Dong. Recruit Man Chong with Xu Huang. Cao Cao will attack again. Leave Cao Ren and CC (Xiahou Dun) alive. Attacking : Cao Ren (CC), Xiahou Dun (C), Gao Shun, Jiang Wan, Ma Liang (S), Mao Jie (S), Xiahou Ba, Xiahou Yuan Captured : Gao Shun (NB), Jiang Wan (NB), Ma Liang, Mao Jie, Xiahou Ba Turn 5 Recruited : Guan Ping Move Xu Huang to Ding Tao. Defeat Cao Ren and Xiahou Dun so you will not be attacked next turn. This is necessary, so that you can attack Lu Kou on your last turn. If you wanted to get more general, just defeat Xiahou Dun, and leave alone Cao Ren. In this case, in the next turn, you will fight Cao Cao and Cao Ren. Attacking : Cao Ren (CC), Xiahou Dun (C), Feng Ji (S), Gongsun Zan, Jia Kui, Xiahou Yuan, Wang Can (S), Zhou Cang Captured : Feng Ji, Gongsun Zan, Jia Kui, Wang Can, Zhou Cang. Turn 6 Recruited : Man Chong Attack Lu Kou using your best generals. Defending : Cao Cao (CC), Deng Ai, Dian Wei, Tian Feng (S). Cao Ren (C), Guo Tu (S), Niu Jin, Xiahou Yuan. Captured : Deng Ai (G), Dian Wei (NB), Guo Tu, Niu Jin, Tian Feng (NB) Acquired : Meng De (from Cao Cao) Note on capturing enemy : If you managed to get Pang Tong and Zhou Yu to reach level 5, they will learn [Pit]. This is one of the useful tactics to capture enemy general, so use it wisely. Sima Yi also have [Pit]. Gan Ning also get a useful tactics when he reached level 5, [Taunt]. Taunt is easier to use than [Pit], since it does not take into consideration the terrain like Pit, but Taunt have a negative of giving enemy morale boost, so if you wanted to use [Taunt], better make sure that you defeated the enemy right away. Total no of general : 79 Go to Task Seven A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Task Six B ?? : Liu Bei borrows Jiang Xia (The Moment Of Truth) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Objective : Attack Cao Cao's city. Time : 6 turns Year : 205 Capital : Jian Ye General Note : Just attack Lu Kou. If you sent only one army, then Liu Bei will automatically sent his unit to help you. But if you sent two army, or have other army nearby when you sent the one army to attack Lu Kou, then Liu Bei will not sent any troops, since you will automatically attack with two troops (the other troops will move automatically to any city tht you are attacking or being attacked if the city is within movement range). Turn by turn Note : Easy way (One fight) : On turn 1 : Attack Lu Kou using the unit that is automatically created by the computer. Liu Bei will sent another army (Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei). You should be able to win this battle easily. Not so easy way (Many fight) : On turn 1 : Your one unit is automatically combined into one unit. Edit your one unit so that it became Taishi Ci (Taishi Ci, Zhou Yu, Huang Gai, Gan Ning) and move it to Wu Chang. Create Zhou Tai army (Zhou Tai, Pang Tong, Lu Xun, Zhu Sheng) and move them as close as possible to Wu Chang. On turn 2 : Move Zhou Tai to Wu Chang. After you end the turn, Cao Cao will attack you. Use combo to get the best general, and defeat all generals, saving the CC for the last. If you defeat the CC, then Cao Cao will not attack you any more, and when you attack the glowing city, you will encounter Xiahou Dun and Cao Cao himself. But if you let the CC live (by not defeating him, run away and erecting barricade using your three special general : Zhou Yu, Pang Tong and Lu Xun), and the day counter reach zero, you will automatically win, and Cao Cao will still attack you next turn. What I did is let Cao Ren (the CC in my game) alive, and I captured Yu Jin and Xu Zhu. On turn 3 : Do nothing. After the fight, I captured Xu Huang (I used a combo of 4 generals, and one of the combo is almost 13,000 soldier killed) and Hao Zhao. Capturing Xu Huang made my day, and it is quite difficult to capture him. See 6A for note on [Pit] and [Taunt]. On turn 4 : Do nothing. After the fight, I captured Sima Lang, Xiahou Ba, Xu You. The only one that is not bad is Xiahou Ba, the other two is useless. On turn 5 : This turn I was not attacked, so I decided to start the fight on Lu Kou. On the fight, I encounter Cao Cao. Managed to capture Deng Ai and Zhang Liao. Deng Ai is even more difficult to capture than Xu Huang. I capture him using a six move tactic (combo), with he become zero after 4 combo, and the last combo alone generate more than 50,000 soldier killed. If you can only get one general, try to get Deng Ai, since his statistic is better all-around. I also managed to get Cao Cao's book using combo. This book give you the evil Hero ?? capability, which in my opinion is very useful. From Cao Cao's general, I managed to capture : Yu Jin, Xu Zhu, Hao Zhao, Xu Huang (must get), Sima Lang (useless), Xiahou Ba, Xu You (useless), Deng Ai (must get), Zhang Liao (must get). Cao Cao's armies : Xiahou Dun, Guo Jia, Hao Zhao, Xu Huang Xiahou Yuan, Xun Huo ??, Yu Jin, Xu Zhu Cao Ren, Sima Yi, Yue Jin, Dian Wei Cao Cao, Tian Feng, Deng Ai, Zhang Liao ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Task Seven A : Assault on Mt. 0 (zero). Basically it is a way to compare all the general. When you get a general, they will have varying level, which means varying value in STR, INT and LEA. The problem is : How do you compare generals with different level ? Otherwise, the value in STR, INT and LEA means nothing. I come up with TL0, which calculated the total of all value in STR, INT and LEA, and convert it into the value at level 0. Example : (I will use Sun Ce, my favorite general) Sun Ce Yes 4 51 29 53 117 At level 4, Sun Ce has STR 51, INT 29, LEA 53 (not including his sword, since it is an item, and I never equip item when calculating TL0). His total is 133. Since he is level 4, and every level give 4 additional value, therefore his TL0 is 133 - 4 x 4 = 117, which is the value in his TL0 column. Now, based on TL0, you can compare similar general, with different level. TL0 is the basis that I use to select which general I use often (of course, beside TL0, there are many other consideration, like skill, tactics they have, unit they can convert to, but TL0 is the first filter). Usually I only consider using general that have TL0 of 100 or more, except when the general have skill which is very useful, like Overlord, Conqueror. ANSWER TO THE MOST-ASKED QUESTION AND TEXT ============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6.1 QUESTION AND ANSWER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Since no one have asked me any question, therefore I am making up all the question in this section. If you have question that was not covered by this FAQ, please e-mail me and I will put it in this section. Q : My general is slow in increasing his deeds and level. What can I do to speed up his experience. A : - First, you need to take him into battle. This should be obvious and have been done by you. No pain, no gain. No battle, (almost) no deeds. - Second, during the battle, every attack will increase experience. What I have found out so far (not complete yet, might be inaccurate) : - Attack, normal : 1 Deeds - Tactic 1 : 2 Deeds - Tactic 2 : 6 Deeds - Tactic 3 : 12 Deeds - Tactic 4 : 20 Deeds - Tactic 5 : 30 Deeds - Tactic 6 : 42 Deeds - Tactic 7 : 56 Deeds - Tactic 8 : 72 Deeds - Tactic 9 : 90 Deeds - Tactic 10 : 110 Deeds - Defeat NoName : 15 Deeds - Defeat Strategist : 20 Deeds - Defeat CC : 30 Deeds Therefore, if you have unlimited tactics, it is suggested that you keep on using those unlimited tactics (like revive, boost). Tactic 2 to 10 will be counted only if it is a combo. Otherwise, it will be considered tactic 1. - Use "On Valor", an item that increase experience result from battle (give zeal skill). - The special tactics (with "fire" and slow-motion effect) does not give additional deeds. Example : Pang Tong : Tactic 1 Zhou Yu : Tactic 2 Sun Ce : Tactic 3 Taishi Ci : Tactic 4 Pang Tong will get 2 Deeds, Zhou Yu 6 deeds, Sun Ce 12 deeds, Taishi Ci 20 Deeds. Note : What I have found out (but have tested out comprehensively), is that it does not matter whether the enemy general are captured in the tactic 1, tactic 2, 3 or even 4, the above list is the valid as long as the general is captured. I have not test the following ones : Victim are not defeated/captured. Victim are defeated, but not captured. Whether the type of tactics have any effect on the deeds. Q : I wanted to recruit A (insert name of general here). But he does not have any name in his friend list. Can I still recruit him ? A : Although A does not have any names in his friend list, but you may still be able to recruit A, if you have B who have A in his (B) own name list. The friend list can also change, so you can also wait until the changes in friend list make one of you officers friendly with A. Q : I have problem capturing general using tactics combo. I have no problem defeating them, but capturing them, it is very difficult (if not impossible) A : Some of the general can not be captured (like any lord/liege when they are in lord/liege capacity), but the general rules for capturing general that I have found out, besides making their soldier count zero : Level 4 3 combo Level 5 4 combo Level 6 4 combo ?? Level 7 5 combo ?? Level 8 5 combo You also need to bring the total soldier of the target general to zero or minus in addition to executing the required number of tactics combo before you can capture him/her. Therefore if you have executed 4 tactics (3 revive, 1 awe), with zero damage to the enemy, it will not capture level 5 general. Q : Can you tell how I can increase my morale, so that I can activate Conqueror, Overlord and any other skills that require morale over 80 ? A : Depot : +5/day Heal : +2/time Skill [Boost], [Revive] Skill will be executed at the beginning of every new day. Note : All effect is cumulative. If you general is in an area covered by 3 depot, he will increase his morale by 15 every day. Q : I could not add more general / create more army. What happened ? A : There is a limit to the total number of generals that you can put into army. Every city you own add to the limit total as follows : - Capital : 3 generals - Big City : 2 generals - City : 1 general - HQ : 4 general - 6 to 11 cities : bonus 1 general - 12 to 17 cities : bonus 2 general - 18 to 23 cities : bonus 3 general - 24 to 29 cities : bonus 4 general So, if you have 1 Capital, 2 City, you will have a limit of 9 generals that can be put into army (2x4 + 1x1). It is possible that there are other factor beside the type of city you own/control, like the number of total cities you have. 1 Ca, 5 Ci : 13 gen 1 Ca, 4 B, 11 Ci : 29 gen 1 Ca, 5 B, 11 Ci : 32 gen 2 Ca, 5 B, 11 Ci : 36 gen Q : I wanted to attack xxx (city), but I could not. What happened ? A : There is a limit on which enemies you can attack, or how far you can attack the enemies. General guidance : War : You can attack cities that have war status Normal : You can declare war / attack this cities Neutral : You could not attack this cities. Ally : You also could not attack this cities. Q : I could not build a depot/tent/fence in a square A : Some requirement for building things : - Could not be build on barren square (depot) - Could not be build on forest (depot, tower, fence) - Could not be build if the general already built depot/tower. Only one tower and one depot allowable per general. If you have 3 builder general, you can built three tower and three depot. Fence have no limitation. Q : How come the damage that I inflict on the enemy change ? A : Damage depend on : - Whether your tactics is special (on fire/slow motion) - The lower your enemy morale, the more damage - The higher your morale is, the more damage. Q : A : Sample of tactics : ------------------------------- |. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .| |. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .| |. 6 4 . . 2 . . . . . . . . . .| |7 . . . . . 3 . . . . . . . . .| |. . 5 . . . . . . . . . . . . .| |9 . 0 . . . . . . . . . . . . .| |. 8 . . . . . . . . . . . . . .| |. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .| |. . . . . Among these skills, some become effective during battle, after certain conditions are met. When the skills are in effect, attack and defense levels can change, and/or an unlimited number of tactics can be used. To confirm these skills and their conditions for activation, press "square" to see the officer information, and then press "R2". Move Army To move an army, select [Move] from the [Army Commands] menu. An army can move 4 bases away in friendly territory and 1 base away in enemy territory. You can check the status of your relations with other forces in the upper-right corner of the base information screen. Movement through your allies' territory is the same as through your own. You can declare war on forces with with which you have [Normal] relations by advancing your armies into their territory. You can only declare war on a force with whom you have [Normal] relations. However, there will be times that you are not allowed to move outside areas pertinent to your current objectives. Form Army The new army appears at the capital. Allied units can at times join battles in neighboring bases as reinforcements. Selecting an officer's name will remove that officer from the army. You can then replace that slot with other candidates. Name Envoy You move an envoy the same way that you move an army. An envoy with the [Diplomat] skill can negotiate a truce if moved to the capital of an enemy force. At the capital of a force with whom you have [normal] relations, an envoy can negotiate an alliance. An envoy with the [Spy] skill can prepare the battlefield for an upcoming battle by building facilities. End of Turn When all is done, select [End Turn] at your capital, and your armies will move in order of the LEA ability of the commanders. Troops restoration. All units that do not participate in battle will have some troops restored each turn. Troops in an officer's unit are restored faster if the officer is relieved from an army. However, if the officer is in a base that is cut off from the capital, the troops are not restored. Units in an army can change their unit type. To change unit type, select an army. Then select one of the officers in that army. Special Unit Special Units have abilities that other unit types do not. First, they can restore troops in units by treating their wounded and gathering deserters. This restoration also cures confusion within the unit and breaks Tactical Links targeted at them. Builders can construct facilities such as Towers, Depots, and Fences. A Tower will automatically attack any enemy unit that comes into range. Depots augment a special unit's healing ability. They also raise the morale of nearby allied units. Only 1 Tower and 1 Depot can be built per army. However, if those are destroyed, others can be built. There is no limit to the number of fences that can be built Spy skills Envoys with the [Spy] skill can appear on the battlefield as [Special] unit. [Special] units will set up facilities before the battle begins. Although they are unable to build facilities during the battle, they can destroy enemy facilities in one turn. Also, they can entice an enemy unit whose morale has fallen below 40 into defecting. The enemy's main officers (commander candidates) and officers without names cannot be enticed. After enticing an enemy unit, the [Special] unit will leave the battlefield. Trump If an army has appointed a strategist, then [Trump] can be used during battle. If the Strategist comes up with a Trump, it will be shown in the menu before a round beginuys. Select and use a Trump from the menu. Trumps do not have to be used immediately. They will still be available in later turns. You can gather up to 5 trumps during a battle. Trumps can have various effects. The best way to find out what each does is to use them during battle. Miscellaneous The strategist may be able to equip additional tactics, depending on the formation chosen. But, the additional tactic is available only for this battle. If the strategist already has 6 tactics equipped, no more can be added. With multiple envoys and armies, the "L1""R1" button scan be useful. This will allow you to jump between all of the bases where you have either an army or an envoy. Pressing the "R2" button will show you a list of all of your officers, and the "L2" button will display a list of all civilians. Advanced units have special commands that you can use. Pikemen can use the [Melee] Tactic to stall an enemy unit whose turn comes after its. Brigadiers can use [Press] to push an enemy unit one square. [Crossbow] units can use [Lure] to pull an enemy unit forward one square. These commands will trigger any Tactical Links and all Tactical Combos whose conditions have been fulfilled. ============================================================================== 7.
