Notes on This Speed Run | * -------------------------- * First of all, I'm apologizing now... this part is long for a speed run. Please just read it all anyway. :D Hello everyone, this is my first attempt at a contribution to the gaming world, so please forgive anything I may have written that isn’t normal. I’m doing my best, so this is what you get, okay? No, I don't have version numbers, I didn't really keep track because I didn't think I'd be publishing this. Sorry! I think this is my twelfth time going over it, though. Or fifteenth. Ish. This speed run was written assuming you have played before and your cameras are fully upgraded or at least greatly improved. I would suggest you first purchase the Infinity function. Another way I save time is by having Kei run right through ghosts he's supposed to be hiding from, it's not hard to do. My sister and I talked a lot about just how detailed this speed run should be. I wanted to write it in such a way that anybody could earn an S for their play time, not just pros who don't need their maps anymore. I mean, I don't know about you, but my real-life so-called sense of direction is completely useless. So I decided to offer two versions, one that's very specific and a simpler one. The detailed version has compass directions throughout. Sometimes the game requires you to follow a certain path, and you digress at your own peril. Please take the time to become familiar with the lists of nightly respawns before you start, the knowledge will prove invaluable. Or you can just refer to the list, but it's faster to just know it, even partially. Text in brackets is unnecessary, but recommended. I didn't include most of them in the simpler speed run because if you don't need directions, you probably don't need me to lead you to film/healing items. In the specific run I will always explain it so you can decide for yourself. Of course one of the optional portions is for the alternate ending, you can go that route and still get an S. As a side note you can do it Night 10, Hour X or Night 15, Hour XII. In the detailed speed run I did my best to leave all the good film for Rei, and in the final hour there's a section leading Rei to all the good stuff, which does take some time, but it's often worth it. In the simple one, I assume you can find your way to the film however and whenever you choose. I list a good approximate running time that should help you gauge how you're doing on time. It's for a maximum-time S, so try to do better than the time given to give yourself wiggle room. The game can be beaten in under 3 hours with some practice! There is a technique called the step technique that you can use to hurry up or down the stairs, but you won't need it to get an S. If you absolutely need to know how to do it, as soon as you hit the stairs, run diagonally and tap the square button quickly then turn them straight, and don't stop steering them or tapping the square button. If you did it right the character will quickly tiptoe up or down the stairs, which is super funny. Just mess with it for a while before you start. It's all in the turning. As a final note, if you have anything to add (or take away) please contact me. I want to have an accurate speed run, so I'd be glad to make changes, and of course you'll get credit for any changes you suggested. You can email me at annie_k57@yahoo.com with questions or comments. I'm always happy to help! * ---------------- * | 3. Time Rankings | * ---------------- * I don't know exactly which second the game sees as the difference between each grade, but I do know which quarter hour. Lots of trial and error. Thanks Sara! Without the Fatal Frame series, my nights would all feel safe and comfortable. Now why would I want to live like that? Second, I have to thank my sister for playing FF III fifteen+ times for me so I could fine-tune everything. I also want to thank Beyond the Camera's Lens and the forums there, they are truly awesome and have provided me with way more information than I thought was available on the best games ever. I'd also like to thank ThisS***AintScary and Hattori for recording their speed runs. I watched their games online in order to check my work, and in doing so, found some humbling mistakes. Glad I caught them though! Best. Games. Ever. This speed run is copyright 2011 Ann Dabrowski and Sara Dabrowski
