FINNY THE FISH & THE SEVEN WATERS ============================= | Prey and Lure Guide | | Version 0.2 | | by Sariel V | | diesirae777@hotmail.com | ============================= Finny the Fish is a game created by Natsume, who are better known for their Harvest Moon series. In it, you play as Finny, a fish charged by an old lake monster named Kappa to retrieve several statues that are in the charge of his servents. The game itself is pretty easy, but one of the subgoals, locating all of the prey and lures available, is not. If you're puzzled where to find any of the 100 lures in the game, this FAQ is for you. Not counting the SaGa Frontier data monster I've been keeping in a cage for the past 7 years or so, this is my first FAQ. Let me know what works, eh? diesirae777@hotmail.com For the most part, I have an accurate listing of which fish gives which lures and vice versa. This is found in sections 2 and 3. USING THIS FAQ: As I've perused a number of FAQs lying around GameFAQs, I've seen a nifty feature that many are using, where they incorporate a "search string" that will allow readers to skip ahead to the section they want if they put it into the Find feature of their text editor. This sounds like a good idea to me. The sections of the FAQ are listed in the Table of Contents below, and you can use the #.#. to skip ahead to the section you want. Likewise, prey and lures are given their own ID numbers so you can more easily skip back and forth between sections, rather than try to find a lot of similar-looking names in big lists. =============================================================================== TABLE OF CONTENTS 0.0. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: or "Just some quick answers for things I figure you may be wondering." Officially, there aren't any FAQs than what I've pulled from the board, and this game has only been out for a month. 0.0.1. HOW MANY LURES ARE THERE? There are 20 models of lures and 5 styles for each model, for a total of 100 lures. Evergreen produces 50 lures, Megabass produces 30 lures and ITO Engineering has a mere 20. 0.0.2. HOW MANY PREY ARE THERE? 106. There's about 17 per stage. 0.0.3. ARE LURES RANDOM? Lures are matched to (usually) one particular type of prey. If you're looking for a particular lure, you should hang out eating the prey that it is matched to until you get yourself hooked on the lure you want. 0.0.4. HOW MANY LURES WILL ANY PREY HAVE? Usually, a particular kind of prey will provide only one kind of lure. Some will provide as many as three different kinds of lures. Some prey give no lures at all. 0.0.5. WHAT'S THE POINT OF GETTING ALL THE LURES? If you manage to collect all 100 lures and catch all 106 prey, Finny will be given a more majestic coloration. This doesn't appear to affect his abilities and is just for fun. 0.0.6. WHAT'S UP WITH THE LURE NAMES? The lures are actual brand names for real fishing lures made in Japan. The companies are real, too. 1.0. PREY 1.1. PREY LISTS Without some better info on where actually to track down the prey, I feel this list isn't very helpful by itself. If you're curious what the name of the prey you're missing from your checklist is, take a look below. The ID number is used to sync with the lists below. 1.1.1. MOUNTAIN LAKE The final stage has only two kinds of prey, Cave Shrimp and Silver Batfish. It doesn't have its own prey listing, so you don't need to worry about getting these if you don't need to. 1.2. PREY DATA: Alertness values. Nutritional values. Descriptions. For the most part, I figure these things are secondary or tertiary to the reason why you're looking in this FAQ in the first place. I'll fill out this section in a later version :) 2.0. PREY/LURES Food is not the only thing out there in the water. Occasionally what you might think will make a tasty treat in fact hides a nasty hook. Fishermen in the airy world above care nothing about Finny's quest and would like little better than to pull him from his watery world - sometimes for sport, sometimes to make him into dinner! But the joke is on them, because Finny is an avid trophy hunter himself, and nothing pleases him more than breaking lines and taking lures. When you first encounter a lure, it will usually look exactly like normal prey, though occasionally you'll be able to see through the disguise (any prey that seems to magically shrink to the size of a crayon, change shape or change color is actually a lure); as you collect more of a particular lure, you'll be able to distinguish between it and real prey more easily; when you have collected three of a particular type of lure, it will no longer fool you, and it will always be readily identifiable as a lure. Most prey is associated with at least one specific kind of lure. Some have as many as three. A rare few do not appear to spawn lures. Aggressive fish never spawn lures (lures can't attack you, after all). Every lure is associated with at least one kind of prey. Some lures are spawned from more than one kind of prey. This is particularly true of the shellfish in most levels, which tend to give out the same lures. 2.1.0. PREY/LURES LISTS: This section is finally finished. LureIDs are matched to PreyIDs in section 3.2. Expect a revamp to make this section a little bit more useful. 2.1.1. LURES: When prey bites back... Lures. Bright, shiny, dangerous lures. Bland green, black and white, or hot pink, Finny is certain to encounter a ton of these fish-baiting contraptions on his quest. Fishermen rely on them to pull in the big fish, but it seems that they have an unnatural preoccupation with catching Finny today - maybe because he's eating everything else in sight. However, Finny has a preoccupation of his own: stealing lures from fishermen whenever he can. It's a dangerous hobby, as it can result in the loss of Finny's health, Light Scales, or even his life, but someone has to show those anglers who's really king of the pond. Lures come in many shapes and sizes, but they fall into only five catagories in "Finny". Topwater lures (TW) stay on the surface of the water and attract fish hungry for insects and frogs. Shads (SH) resemble small food fishes like herring or minnows. Crankbaits (CB) also tend to resemble small fish, but they also feature a 'lip' in front that directs these lures lower into the depths. Spinnerbaits (SP) consist of a weighted hook covered with a 'skirting' material and a set of spinning blades which attracts the attention of nearby gamefish. Vibrating lures (VB) produce noise when reeled in. 3.1. LURE LISTS: Lures are listed in the order they appear in the game's data section. 3.1.1. THANK YOUS: - To Natsume, for taking a chance on an interesting and quirky game. Without them, Atlus, and Fresh Games, we'd never see anything but clones of popular series. - To the Bob and Tom Show, for making my morning lure hunts more entertaining. - To you the reader, for having made the past few days of typing up this FAQ worthwhile.
