The first time I beat "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", I lost the house cup and only found 43 cards. Yup, that's pretty sad...but hey, I just wanted to finish the game! If you just follow the storyline to complete the game without doing any exploring on your own, you've only completed 50 percent of the game. The other 50 percent of this game is completed by finding all wizard cards, completing all tasks, and playing all the mini-games. The most challenging part of this game would be collecting all 101 wizard cards. When playing this game for the second time I searched up and down and all Around for these cards. I've also received help from extremely great people from the message board when stuck at a dead end. Many people had problems finding cards, so I decided to write a fully detailed in-depth FAQ on how to find all 101 cards. But first...you should always attempt something on your own first before Seeking help from others, otherwise...where's the fun in playing the game? Search for as many cards on your own first. Okay, first of all let me provide a brief introduction about Witches and Wizards Cards. ~*~ In the magical world, these Famous Witches and Wizards cards are like the basketball/baseball trading cards in the muggle world. Young witches and wizards enjoy collecting and trading cards with one another. Wizard cards are found in treasure boxes or just lying out in the open. You can also obtain cards by trading with other students or by completing certain tasks. ***NOTE*** This FAQ was written according to how I played the game. So based upon the order in which you play the game or do certain tasks, you might not be able to trade cards at certain areas or gnome dunk until after finishing certain tasks. When I played the game for the first time, I was able to trade cards on the seventh floor early on in the game. [required spells: | | Alohamora] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *TRADED CARDS: There were many posts on the message board about buying back the cards that you've traded from Fred/George's shop. When I played the game, I never bought any traded cards from the shop. I believe for those people who had to buy back their cards must have omitted some cards somewhere along the way. That means they did not actually find ALL 101 cards. You're suppose to find two of each card that you trade off, instead of finding just one card, trading it, then buying it back. Helpful tips/hints: The cards that are inside classroom are easier to get during the daytime. By nighttime, the classrooms are heavily guarded by a possessed/withered hand, and ghosts. You should learn all spells before searching for classroom cards. If you've only learned the Skurge spell you'll have to pass up all the [TB]s locked by the Incendio spell and get them later. It's a big hassle to make a second trip searching for classroom cards so why bother with an extra trip, right? ~*~ *-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-* III. Mini-Games Explanation (SPOILERS!!!) *-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-*-===-* =============================================================================== a. Gnome Throwing and Gnome Dunking =============================================================================== Once you can equip your Nimbus 2000 you can start the Gnome Throwing Mini-Games. There are 5 Gnome Throwing Games in total. The purple ring is worth 5 points, the green ring is worth 10 points, and I'm not sure what the yellow ones are worth. You get more points if you throw the Gnomes in multiple rings. Each time you win, you will receive a Famous Witches and Wizards Card. Helpful tips/hints: You can throw the Gnomes at the corners of the tower. Hopefully, they get rebounded into the rings. Gnome Dunking is done by the lake. If there are three bushes in front of the lake, that means you can go Gnome Dunking. Throw enough Gnomes in the lake to make a treasure box (wizard card) appear. You can get up to three treasure boxes. NOTE: GNOME DUNKING CAN ONLY BE DONE AT NIGHT AFTER THE FIRST DAY AT HOGWARTS, OR ON THE LAST DAY OF TERM. ***update*** Gnome Dunking Information from Guinevere and kbknowno from the message board. Broom Racing =============================================================================== Broom Racing mini-games can only be done after beating the Basilisk. Fly through the rings to build up speed. Pass through the green ring first to win the race. You can race each person three times. Your reward for winning is a Famous Witches and Wizards Card. You can win a total of 15 cards from Broom Racing Helpful tips/hints: Always look for the next ring so you know which direction to go. If you're lucky and push your opponent to crash into a building, they'll need a few seconds to recover. To make sharp turns, release the acceleration button, use the analog joystick to face the direction that you want to go, then accelerate again. ~*~ =============================================================================== c. Gryffindor Notice Board Items =============================================================================== There is a Notice Board in the Gryffindor Common Room where students report their lost items. When you find one of the lost items, return it to the Notice Board to get a Famous Witches and Wizards card and 10 house points. The Gloves are | on this platform, away from the braziers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadding with Ghouls | This book is located on the small grassy square next to | bridge that leads to the Confiscated Items Storeroom. | (If you're coming from the Confiscated Items room, look | towards the right side of the bridge and you should see | the grassy square.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Holiday with Hags | From the castle's entrance, go through the tunnel, then | turn to your right and follow along the perimeter/walls | of the castle and you should find it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jordan's Tarantula | On the left side of the Greenhouse, (facing Hagrid's hut) | there is a crawl hole. The students will ask for your help first, then the (x) button changes to ACCEPT command. There are 8 people you can trade cards with. 3 outside castle's entrance, 1 behind the staircase to the left in the Entrance Hall, 1 in the library, and 3 on the seventh floor. (The 3 students on the seventh floor will may not be there all the time. When I was playing, they didn't appear until after I defeated the Basilisk.) Q. Where are the rooftop mini-games? (Gnome Throwing and Broom Racing) A. Refer to section III. Mini-Games Explanation, part a and/or b. Q. Why can't I find any Broom Races? A. You can't race until you've beaten the Basilisk. Q. Why can't I find any bushes by the lake for Gnome Dunking? A. Gnome Dunking can only be done at night after the first day at Hogwarts or on the last day of term. Just as long as the three bushes appear by the lake, you can go gnome dunking. Q. When you're as Goyle go to the dungeons to interrogate Malfoy, there's a treasure chest in the room with all the prefects, but you need the Incendio spell to open it. I haven't learned that spell yet. How can I get it? A. In order to get this chest you must do two things. You must defeat Slytherin in the Quidditch match, and defeat the Basilisk. Q. I found the same card twice. Does this mean I'm going to be one card short at the end? A. No. You're suppose to find two of each card that you trade off. So you're On the right track. Q. I can't find -------(item). A. Refer to section III. Mini-Games Explanation, part c and/or d. Q. I can't find the cloisters area. A. Cloister, by definition, is a covered walk along a wall. To get to the cloisters area, go right from outside the castle's entrance. You'll come across an area with a grassy green square with one bush/tree in the middle. If you find yourself in the Flying Lessons area (where Madam Hooch is standing), then you've gone too far. The cloisters area is right before the Flying Lessons area. Q. Are the cards in the same location for the Gamecube, Xbox version? A. From what I've read, the locations of the cards are not the same on other platforms. Q. How can I get the Alohamora spell? A. You have to buy the Alohamora spell book from Fred/George's shop. The spell book costs 80 beans. Q. Where can I find a bigger bean bag? A. Find and return all the lost items to the students OUTSIDE the castle, and you'll be rewarded with the key to the confiscated items storeroom. The 200 bean bag is in a chest in the confiscated room. The 100 bean bag can be found in a chest in a secret passage behind the bookshelf on the fourth floor. You'll will need the Alohamora spell to unlock the chest. (You can also gain access to the secret passage from the second floor) For more information about the finding/returning lost items to students outside the castle, please refer to section III, d: Other Items, in this FAQ. Q. Can Alohamora be used to unlock doors? No. Alohamora can only be used on chests that have locks on them. The spell does not work on doors that says "Locked", or "Try". Q. Where's the dungeon? A. The entrance to the dungeon is located in the main Entrance Hall. (The area with the four hourglasses.) It located behind a portrait on the back wall towards the right corner in the Reading Room on the seventh floor. H This is where you (Harry) are when you first enter the reading Room from the second floor. This is a rough diagram of the Reading Room on the second floor. From the second floor, go through the door that says "Library (Reading Room)". There are three prefects patrolling around in this room. Do not go through the doors leading to the library. Instead, go through the doors with the golden annex located to the RIGHT of the entrance to the main library. In the next area, you'll have to avoid and sneak past a couple prefects to get the back of the room. There's a single portrait on the back wall. Say the password to reveal the crawl hole. Crawl through to find yourself in the restricted section of the library. Q. How do you beat the bookshelf after getting Hogwarts, A History? A. You have to cast Flipendo on the bookshelf continuously until it falls over. From a safe distance, lock on to the bookshelf, and cast (charged) Flipendos at it while dodging the books that it spits at you. Every time you successfully hit it, it will back off a step or two. If you hesitate too long, it will recover its distance. Q. How do you exit the room where you get the Incendio spell book? The door won't stay open long enough for me to get out. A. You have to light all 4 torches/braziers in that room and keep them lit for the door to remain opened so that you can exit. (OPTIONAL) * Where Harry (you) should be standing when casting/lighting the first torch/brazier. (OPTIONAL) This is the strategy I used to open the door to the exit. It has worked every time I tried it. You don't have to follow this strategy. Some steps may vary from player to player. You don't have to light the torches in that order, and you don't have to stand where the * indicates. These are all optional. First, make sure you've already have the Incendio spell, and equip it if you haven't done so already. Move Harry so that he's standing towards the lower right hand corner of the room. (about where the * is) Make sure you can target lock torch #1. Now fully charge an Incendio spell while moving a bit closer to torch #4. (you should be about halfway between #2 and #4. Make sure you didn't lose your target lock.) Once your spell is fully charged, cast your spell and torch #1. IMMEDIATELY after you cast the spell (right after you released the button), charge up another Incendio spell and target lock torch #2. This time move towards torch #4 and the fire-breathing gargoyle, G. (Don't stand directly in between torch #4 and G, or you'll have a hard time target locking torch #3 later.) After your spell is fully charged, cast the spell at torch #2. Again, immediately charge up another spell after lighting torch #2. Make sure you're not standing in between torch #4 and G, because you'll probably a bit of trouble target locking torch #3. (Sometimes you'll probably target lock the G instead of torch #3.) After your spell is fully charged, cast it at torch #3. After lighting torch #3, charge up another Incendio spell and target lock the last torch, torch #4. While you're charging the spell, move towards the EXIT, [. After the spell is fully charged, cast it at torch #4. Now, quickly dash out through the exit. (All 4 torches should be lit if you've done this correctly.) NOTE: It is important that you cast CHARGED spells so that the torch will stay lit longer. Q. I've got the Incendio spell book, and I'm back to where I started. (The first, and largest area in the Incendio challenge.) How do you get out? A. You have to raise two gates that are blocking the way out. There are two buttons on the high platform that leads to the exit of the Incendio challenge. You have to push these two buttons to raise the gates. These are the switches to move the fires. (O's and X's) Hit them with Flipendo. [G] fire breathing gargoyle statue. (x4) Each Gargoyle has a large stone tablet above them. * Where Harry makes the first jump across the platforms. (Harry jumps across the stone tablets when they are raised) When you first return to this area, light all the torches/braziers so that two large pillar drop down, and two new area appears. (The 2 areas with the @'s and the c's, fire crabs.) Kill the fire crabs so they won't get in your way. Now hit the @'s so that the fires are completely out on the left side. On the diagram, both grates on the LEFT side are not lit. (Remember, the "O" means that fire is NOT lit there.) Both grate on the right side should have fire. (X's) Now cast Incendio on both [G]'s on the left side. This causes flames to shoot out of their mouths. Now immediately cast Flipendo on both [G]'s. This causes the [G]'s to shoot fire upwards, causing the stone tablet above them to rise. Now quickly, dash up the stairs and head to where the raised platforms/tablets Are. (You should be around where the * is on the diagram) Now jump across the tablets/platforms to the other side. (Do this quickly otherwise the flame will go out and the platforms will lower) Now that you've made your way across, push the button (=) on the wall. You have just raised one of the gates (^^^^^^^^^^) blocking the exit. Now repeat these steps on the right side. That means you'll have to put out the fire on the right side and light the fires on the left side.
