I analyzed other FAQs and the guidelines on GameFAQs.com before I made this one. I felt that there was a need for an FAQ on the "Mystery Field" events so I decided to make one myself. I hope that I did a good job in making it and that everyone will enjoy it. Below you will find a list of the items that can be found followed by where each are located in the order that they are found. Then I explain how long the combinations took and have created tables with the items as well as what resulted from the different combinations along with a short list of the correct "Mystery Field" events. At the end of this FAQ are the thanks to everyone and how people can get in touch with me. Enjoy the FAQ! _________ ~Seeds~ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Crimson Seed - "A mysterious seed. Who knows what will sprout?" Swallow Wing - "Element effective in keeping birds away." Whale Tale - "Element effective in reviving land." Total = 10 _____________ ~Locations~ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Below is a list of all the seeds and fertilizers I got throughout the game in the order of when they can first be acquired. The first half can be acquired by both characters. Afterwards the list splits into female and male because the "Rainbow Seed" is found differently by both characters. Fertilizer #1 - At the cemetery in "Akebi Village", a "Blossom Branch" can be found on the left side of the screen. Fertilizer #2 - Half-way through "Road to Kasasagi", a "Swallow Wing" can easily be found. Fertilizer #3 - Half-way through "Road to Kasasagi", a "Snake Skin" can easily be found. Seed #1 - Enter "Kasasagi Town" and head right then down to come to a clearing behind two houses and a shed to find a "Sky Blue Seed". Seed #2 - In "Kasasagi Town", exit down from the headman's house and turn left to find a "Yellow Seed". Fertilizer #4 - In "Kasasagi Town", go to the left side of the headman's house to find a "Cicada Skin". Fertilizer #5 - Enter the "Forest to Tsuzumi" and head up at the first fork in the road. Follow the path as it curves and begins to bend downwards to find a "Cicida Skin" on the right side of the screen. Fertilizer #6 - Enter the "Forest to Tsuzumi" and head up at the first fork in the road. Follow the path as it curves and begins to bend downwards. Continue going down and turn left at the next fork in the road and you will come to a dead end. Find a "Snake Skin" at the bottom section of the screen. Seed #3 - Find a "Pink Seed" in "Tsuzumi Village" at the blocked highway. Seed #4 - After rescuing three maidens in "Pass to Castle Town", you go to their mansion called the "Mountain Manor". After you defeat two of the enemies that disguised themselves as maidens, head down then right to find a "Crimson Seed" at the end of the path. Fertilizer #7 - After rescuing three maidens in "Pass to Castle Town", you go to their mansion called the "Mountain Manor". After you defeat two of the enemies that disguised themselves as maidens, head down then left to find a "Beast Fang". It's in the same room where the "Ayakashi Spring Sake" is located. (NOTE: Whenever you get close to defeating the game, "Beast Fangs" can be found after some battles in "Road to Akebi".) Fertilizer #8 - After defeating Yurihime/Princess Oboro at the "Mountain Manor", go through the "Pass to Castle Town" a second time. Half-way through an inn can be found where a master offers tea to everyone for 100 yen. A "Snake Skin" can be found on the left side of the screen. Fertilizer #9 - Enter "Castle Town" and go in between the two houses on the left and find a "Swallow Wing" beside a tree. A chicken on the right can easily lead the way if you are having difficulty finding the path between the two houses. Fertilizer #10 - Enter "Castle Town" and go up to the next screen where people are lined up outside of two shops. Go into an alley on the right side of the shop in the middle and talk to Tokizo, who is hidden there. Exit the screen then re-enter and go back into the alleyway to find Tokizo gone and "Sparkling Weeds" found there instead. Seed #5 - This can only be done during the first time you enter "Castle Town". You will only gain entry into the castle with the headman of "Kasasagi Town" in your party. Right after you gain entry, don't proceed into the castle just yet. Notice the two guards, the first one behind the guard post and the second in front of the gate. Go to the second guard and head to the right. Try to squeeze in between the fence or gate and the wall to proceed into another area. (NOTE: If you somehow ended up on the bridge, head back and try again.) Talk to the person at the end of the path then slowly head back while pressing the X button to find the "Lime Green Seed". Seed #6 - After gaining entry into the castle, there will be a bridge in front of the castle entrance. Find a "Yellow Seed" on the right side of the castle entrance just before entering the castle. Fertilizer #11 - Once "Inside the Castle", there will be a man named Takezo lying against a guardrail. Talk to him and he will inform you that there are 30 people trapped within the castle that need to be rescued. After rescuing 25-29 people, talk to him again to receive a "Sacred Tree Bark" from him. Seed #7 - After rescuing all 30 people "Inside the Castle", talk to Takezo one last time to receive the "Purple Seed" from him. Fertilizer #12 - Find a "Hot Spring Dew" on the top left side of the screen at the spa in "Rindoh Village". This is where the list begins to split. Since I played the female character first in the game, I have that section first. If you are playing the male character, skip down the list a bit to find that section. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Female Character ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Seed #8 - After revisiting "Castle Town" a second time, the first random event in the game will appear as a question mark over "Tsuzumi Village". DON'T DO THE RANDOM EVENT YET!!! I have something very important to say first so please read everything I have to say before choosing to do anything. At this point in the game, you can get either one of two seeds. One is the "Rainbow Seed" by entering "Kaede's Village" and going towards the "Bone-Eater's Well". While passing by the "Mystery Field", Myoga will stop you and ask if he can drink your blood. Say yes and he will thank you by giving you the seed in return. The other seed that you can get is from the random event in "Tsuzumi Village" which I suggest doing instead since I'm not sure if the random event will occur again later in the game. With the "Rainbow Seed", you will still have more chances to get it later throughout the game. This is how it works, if you choose do any random event, you won't be able to get the "Rainbow Seed" until the next round of random events and you'll lose your chance for good to get it after the final round of random events. If you choose to get the "Rainbow Seed" instead, all the random events within one round will disappear and you won't be able to do some of them until the next round of random events occur or you might not be able to do some of them at all. Unfortunately it's a sacrifice that must be made in order to acquire this seed. I recommend not sacrificing this random event but sacrificing a future because you can get the "Rainbow Seed" during any three rounds of random events that appear later in the game. Read the next paragraph below to find out how to do the random event in "Tsuzumi Village" and come back later to the portion in this paragraph that tells you how to get the "Rainbow Seed" when you're ready to acquire it. Seed #9 - After revisiting "Castle Town" a second time, the first random event in the game will appear as a question mark over "Tsuzumi Village". If you choose to do it, you can acquire only one of three seeds. The annual drumming competition festival has begun and the group will be asked to participate in this event. Have fun cheering on all of your friends! If you win 0-2 rounds, you lose. Win three rounds and get a "Crimson Seed". Win four rounds and get a "Pink Seed". Win all five rounds and get a "Lacquered Seed". I recommend getting the "Lacquered Seed" because I haven't been able to find it anywhere else in the game and I've found that you can get the other two seeds elsewhere within the game. To win the first round, tell InuYasha to "drum softer". In round two, tell Kagome to "put her back into it". In round three, tell Shippo to "be more lively". In round four, tell Miroku to "drum harder". In the final round, tell Sango to "move her body". Those are all the correct answers to win each round. Seed #10 - After reuniting with everyone "Inside the Castle", you will wake up in "Kaede's Village". Kaede will tell you to go talk to Kakaju. Kakaju will tell you about people in "Minamo Village" that are being spirited away. Before going there, go back to "Ayame Village" first. Head into the swamp and go back to where you fought Kagura and Utsugi. Search the top area and find a "Gold Seed" located there. Seed #11 - After running away from the group in "Minamo Village", you will come across Utsugi and Kanna in "Boten Village". Kikyo comes to your rescue and you will wake up in a house, which she brought you to. Walk down the step and find a "Silver Seed" on the right side of the screen. If you missed it or choose to get it later, you can find the house again by entering the village then going left at the fork in the road and the house will be located in the upper left side of the screen. Fertilizer #13 - Enter "Boten Village" and come to a fallen tree with a fork in the road splitting into three different directions. Go around the tree and continue going straight up. Come to a wooden structure with miniature statues in it called a Jizo Shrine, which are even to this day very common in Japan. Jizo is one of Buddha's Bodhivista and usually considered to be the protector of children. Find a "Mystery Soil" hidden behind it. Fertilizer #14 - Enter "Shiyosai Village" and head left to find a "Whale Tale" hidden in between two houses. Fertilizer #15 - Enter "Kururugi Village" and head straight up the path to find a "Mystery Soil" in front of the "Kururugi Shrine". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Male Character ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Seed #8 - After revisiting "Castle Town" a second time, the first random event in the game will appear as a question mark over "Tsuzumi Village". Seed #11 - I can't remember which but in either the second last or final round of random events, choose the one in "Minamo Village". After helping Ishimaru find his father's helmet, talk to his mother and she will give you the "Rainbow Seed" in return of helping her son. Fertilizer #15 - Enter "Kururugi Village" and head straight up the path to find a "Mystery Soil" in front of the "Kururugi Shrine". Total Seeds and Fertilizers = 26 _________________ ~Combo Testing~ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Of all the seeds and fertilizers I've acquired, I tested each and every combination between them myself. After I beat the game once, I progressed through the game a second time trying to locate all the items I could find. Around the part of the game where the group is trying to locate Utsugi, I decided to try a combo then. I noticed that little had changed with the combo I was trying to make when I went through events like talking to Koga and going through "Mount Houoh" to find Utsugi. I didn't save it so I reset the game and experimented some more. At first I thought that going through the "Road to Akebi" a few times made a difference because I finally get the combo that I was trying to get quite fast. I went through there since after beating the game a second time, I retained my levels from previously beating the game so the enemies were the easiest to beat there. I reset the game again and progressed to the very end of it picking up any remaining items along the way before I started to test all the different combos. Anyway, I've discovered otherwise now. I've finally figured out that it's not how many times you go through an area, it's really the amount of battles you win that affect the outcome. It takes about 9 or 10 battles for the outcome of a normal combo and 19 or 20 battles for a "Mystery Field" event. Storyline events do not affect the outcome at all. I recommend collecting all the seeds and fertilizers and save them then wait till the very end of the game and go to "Road to Akebi" since your levels will be high and the enemies are the weakest there so that should be the fastest way to do the combos since that's what I did. Anyway, just go there once and fight the necessary battles although doing all the correct combinations may be time consuming. If by chance you don't get the event yet then I suggest fighting a few more battles or go through "Road to Akebi" again. I have seven "Mystery Field" events and that's all of them. One combo is found in the booklet that came with the game and two others are a given within the game. One is written on a piece of paper found on a desk found at the "Old Temple" and another is told by a person found in the left section of "Castle Town". I thought that a third combo was given in the game by a person in "Shiyosai Village" but it didn't work. Any other "Mystery Field" events were discovered by trying all the different combos between every seed and fertilizer that I've obtained throughout the game. Five of the combos are the same for both characters. Only the "Gold Seed" and the "Rainbow Seed" combos differentiate between each character. You have to do both combos for one character and then again for the other character. ____________________ ~Combo Timetables~ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Below are three tables containing every different combination tested between all the seeds and fertilizers. To prevent future problems of that occurring, I've set up this quick list of the correct combos for the "Mysterious Field" events. I hope that this helps everyone. Note: Five of the combos are the same for both characters. Only the "Gold Seed" and the "Rainbow Seed" combos differentiate between each character. You have to do both combos for one character and then again for the other character. _________________ ~Tail or Tale?~ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ At first when I found this spelling mistake, I actually thought that it was a glitch in the game and was affecting the "Mystery Field" event that I was trying to get. In "Shiyosai Village", someone in a house on the left side of the village states that he threw away a "Whale Tail" behind his house but when I found it, it was called a "Whale Tale". Notice the different way that they are both spelled. After I acquired it, I went back to talk to him again and he states if you use a "Silver Seed" and a "Whale Tail" together, "something wondrous will grow". It seemed obvious that this was another combo that was being given away in the game. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary at first. It wasn't until after I tried the combo and was surprised to not get the "Mystery Field" event that I was expecting to get. I just got a regular item called a "Fruit of Heaven" instead. I went back to a previous file that I had saved and paid very close attention to everything that happened and that's when I found the spelling mistake. I thought that that was a glitch in the game and was why I couldn't get the "Mystery Field" event that I was expecting to get. I called the Bandai company and left a message with them. They called me back and told me that the spelling mistake wasn't a glitch in the game. It was just like any other spelling mistake that can be found in any other game. But they also couldn't explain why I wasn't getting the "Mystery Field" event. They recommended me to go to a site called GameFacts.com but once I typed that address in the web browser, it automatically redirected to the GameFAQs.com site itself. I wound up right back to where I started. In the end, I don't know why such a combo was stated in the game when in the end it all turned out to be completely bogus. Thanks to two different people that e-mailed me, I was able to acquire a new seed that I didn't have before. That particular seed and "Whale Tail" were able to create another "Mystery Field" event. ______________ ~Conclusion~ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Every "Mystery Field" events that exist in the game have finally been discovered. If there happens to be any seeds or fertilizers missing, please let me know but I really don't think that any new ones will be discovered. You never know though. Anyway, I hope that everyone found this FAQ to be very helpful. If there are any mistakes that I've written or anything that anyone would like to contribute to this FAQ, please tell me. I would greatly appreciate it. I would like this FAQ to be very insightful to everyone. "InuYasha" is my second favourite anime. I've loved the show since January 2004. I don't have cable or a satellite dish at home so a friend taped some episodes on YTV, a Canadian TV network, for me to see and I've been hooked on the show ever since then. Thankfully, they're still taping episodes of "InuYasha" for me but they sort of regret introducing it to me because they think I'm silly for how I act all crazy about the show. LOL There's only one show that I go crazier for. It's my favourite TV show ever and also an anime. It's "Sailor Moon" and I've liked it since 1995, when it debut in North America. Both animes are great as well as many others. Anyway, I have nothing more to say now so I hope that everyone enjoys this FAQ.
