If you fall into that category you can stop reading now; this guide is meant for everyone else. The guide is useful for the following: -Learning how to build/upgrade a gummi ship (Section 3) -Seeing what types of blocks you need to build a certain ship (Section 6), since the game doesn't give you that information. -Custom ship database (Section 8) Well it may be pointless but I think it's fun to build these ships. This is a game after all, and it's designed to be a pointless diversion. I've also included a list of all the upgrades and blocks, with stats and prices (if you can buy them). If you want me to include your custom ship design here, please follow the format spec in Section 7 and email it to me. Future versions will include the following: -Info on the "hidden" stats of the gummi blocks and ships -Locations of gummi ships before the Heartless become stronger -Where to find blocks that you can't buy -Info on piloting ships ========================= 3.0 - GUMMI SHIP BUILDING ========================= This section is for those who thought the in-game tutorial was inadequate. I know I did. -------------- 3.1 - Controls -------------- S = square, T = triangle, O = circle Select Mode ----------- X or R1 - Build Mode O - Exit S - Paint T - Palette Left analog stick - Rotate gummi block Right analog stick - Rotate grid view Up/Down - Cycle through gummi blocks within a type Left/Right - Cycle through gummi types, or colors when painting Build Mode ---------- X - Place block Hold X - Move block O - Delete block S - Select entire ship T - Delete entire ship after pressing S Select - Help R1 - Select Mode R2 - Inspect Mode L1 - Move the cursor up one layer L2 - Move the cursor down one layer Left analog stick - Rotate gummi block Right analog stick - Rotate grid view Up/Down/Left/Right - Move the cursor or block Inspect Mode ------------ X - Test weapons, engines, grab O or R2 - Build Mode S - Report T - Button config Start - Gummi Garage Select - Help L1 - Zoom in L2 - Zoom out Right analog stick - Rotate ship -------------- 3.2 - Supplies -------------- Shortly after clearing Deep Jungle, you'll be able to purchase gummi blocks and upgrades from Cid. His inventory will increase after you complete Agrabah, and again when you defeat Riku the 2nd time in Hollow Bastion. Not all blocks can be purchased from him. Some of them you'll have to find in treasure chests, or by destroying other gummi ships. Blueprints cannot be purchased. Most of them can be obtained by destroying the corresponding types of ships. Some special models are obtained from Geppetto after you've defeated a certain number of Heartless. To obtain the Chocobo blueprint, enter Geppetto's house about 30 times and then speak to Pinocchio. Note that you don't need any blueprints in order to build your own custom ships. Perhaps the easiest way to get a complete set of blocks is to find all 99 dalmations. The prize is a complete set of blocks and upgrades, but you will not receive any blueprints. You still have to get those the hard way. -------------- 3.3 - Painting -------------- You can only paint blocks in Select Mode. You must have the Paint upgrade to do this. Choose the type of block you want to paint, then press S. To paint in a color from you current palette, press Left/Right to select the color. Then press X to enter Build Mode and place your block normally. While selecting your colors, you can change your current palette by pressing T. This requires the Palette upgrade. On the palette screen, press L1/R1 to select the color you want to get rid of. Move the cursor to the color you want and press X to replace your old color. There are 64 total colors to choose from. Note that some blocks (e.g. Fire-G) cannot be painted. ---------- 3.4 - Tips ---------- The blue blueprints are for your custom designs. You can increase how many you can store by purchasing computer upgrades. The maximum is 10. The green blueprints are the designs you acquire through playing the game. Not all ship designs are flyable. To be flyable, a ship must have a cockpit, and an engine facing the correct direction. That means the thrust end points in the opposite direction of the blue arrow in the construction grid. Blocks do not have to touch each other. They can float anywhere you want. There is a maximum number for each type of gummi block in your inventory. It ranges from 1 (e.g. Cure-G) to 99 (e.g. Protect-G cube). The number of a given block type in your inventory is the number that each of your ships can use. For example, you might have one custom model that uses 99 Protect-G cubes, and another custom model that used 99 Protect-G cubes. Using up all the blocks of a given type for one blueprint DOES NOT mean that you can't still use them in another blueprint. You can have a maximum of 1 cockpit, 10 weapons, and 6 engines per ship. ================================= 4.0 - GUMMI CONSTRUCTION UPGRADES ================================= After you beat Guard Armor in Traverse Town, you'll get your first Gummi Ship, which is based on the Kingdom Model. If you won Riku's footrace and didn't change the name, it's called Excalibur. In order to build more ships, and ships with greater complexity and size, you'll need to purchase upgrades. Note: Asterisks in the descriptions indicate that you can't buy a particular upgrade from Cid until completing a certain event. * Lock Agrabah ** Defeat Riku the second time in Hollow Bastion Type Cost Desc. After entering the house 30 times, talk to Pinocchio for the Chocobo blueprint. Some blueprints are obtained from Geppetto after defeating a certain number of Heartless. Thanks to Jake459 for this info. 500 Heartless - Cid 1000 Heartless - Cactuar 1500 Heartless - Yuffie 3000 Heartless - Aerith 4000 Heartless - Leon 5000 Heartless - Hyperion Note that bosses don't count toward the total. You can add up the totals in the journal to see how many enemies you have killed. A good way to rack up kills is by fighting in Traverse Town, 2nd District, after Traverse Town becomes battle level 6. If you go through 2nd District, plus the Gizmo Shop, Gizmo Shop roof, Hotel, Red/Green Room, and Alleyway, you'll rack up 103 kills by my count, and you'll gain experience fast. The rest of the blueprints are obtained by destroying the corresponding ships. Below are the ships available in each location. Note that these are the ships you'll find after finishing Hollow Bastion. Before that, there are less ship types in each location. I'll add that exact info at a later time, or someone may submit it to me. You know what I mean. -Don't send me any designs which are pornographic, spell profanity, or are otherwise offensive. Please use good judgement. If you feel the need to create pornographic gummi ships, you may want to seek professional help. -Send me flyable ships only please. That means one cockpit and at least one engine pointing in the right direction. -Use the Format Spec below, and my X-Wing example to describe your ship. If you have ideas on improving the format I'm open to suggestions, though I don't guarantee I'll implement your suggestions. -------------------------- 7.2 - Format Specification -------------------------- Coming up with a format for describing a custom gummi ship was challenging. I wanted it to be easy to use (both for the creator and for people trying to build the ship from the spec) and unambiguous. I hope people will find the following method acceptable. Please note that this format is subject to change, so make sure you have the most current version of this faq. The most current version can always be downloaded from www.gamefaqs.com. If I change the format in the future, I'll take care of updating all the designs that were already submitted, so just make sure than any new designs follow the most current format. There are four main sections comprising a custom blueprint. General Specs ------------- The first section is for general specs. Here's the info I want: Title - In ASCII Contributor - Your gamefaqs message board userid is prefered. Please don't make me have to guess something from your email address. Size - Length x Width x Height Blocks - Number of gummi blocks in your design Desc - A short description Link - A URL (webpage or direct picture link) to a picture of your ship The Desc and Link are optional. The other fields are not. If you don't give me something for the Contributor field, I'll list it as "Anonymous Coward". If you read Slashdot you'll understand. The reason I want the Size and Blocks fields is that these fields tell you which COM. LV or SYS. UP someone would need to build your ship. If you want a picture of your ship, one method is to use a TV card and capture it. Or you can use a digital camera to take a picture of your TV screen. Please don't send me emails asking for details on how to get your gummi ship picture on the web. I'll ignore any such emails. Parts ----- The second section is a parts list of the gummi blocks comprising your ship. This is useful because people can look at their gummi block inventory and see if they have enough parts to build your ship. I'd prefer that you list the parts in the following order: Cockpit Engines Weapons Wings Special Armor Within each category, I'd prefer if you order the parts in the same order as in Section 5. For example, Protect-G's are listed before Shell-G's, and Protect-G cubes are listed before Protect-G wedges. I reserve the right to re-order your parts list for the purpose of keeping things consistent with the rest of this document. Note that many types of gummi block have more than one shape. Check Section 5 for the names of the shapes, and use those names please. I realize the shape names are arbitrary but let's keep things consistent. Index ----- The third section, the index, is where things start to get slightly tricky. Here's a short example of an index: ID# Type Color Rotation ----------------------------------- 001 Life-G 1,8 . 002 Fire-G 1,8 . 003 Aero-G square 1,5 U,U 004 Aero-G square 1,5 U,U ID# is a unique three-digit number. It's a three-digit number because 200 blocks is the limit for a gummi ship. The ID's should be in an order that corresponds to your parts list. Since the cockpit block is listed first in the parts list, it will always have 001 as its ID. If you then had four Fire-G engines, they would have ID's 002 through 005. Type is just the type of gummi block. Color is specified with a (row, column) pair. Their are 8 rows and 8 columns of color on the full palette. Row 1 comprises the basic 8 colors. 1,8 is the default white color. In the example above, the Aero-G gummi blocks would be colored red. Note that some blocks (e.g. Fire-G) cannot be painted. In this case just list the default color (1,8). One of the tough parts of designing this format spec was to figure out the best way to communicate information on rotations. Note that you can rotate gummi blocks as you place them with the left analog stick. Sometimes these rotations only affect the aesthetics of the ship (e.g. armor blocks). Sometimes they affect the function of your ship (e.g. Thundara-G). The rotation of each block is specified in the index by indicating a sequence of directions to push the left analog stick. If you don't rotate the block, just put a period. In the example above, the Life-G and Fire-G have the default orientation, and the Aero-G's are rotated by pushing Up on the left analog stick twice. Note that the rotations are with respect to the default orientation. So if you selected Aero-G square, then went into Build Mode, then rotated by pushing Up twice on the left analog stick, the block would be ready for placement. After placing a block, the last orientation is still selected as long as you don't go back to Select Mode. So you could simply move the 2nd Aero-G block to its position and place it. You wouldn't want to rotate it Up twice again because then you'd be back to the default orientation, and that's not what we want. Exiting back to Select Mode is a handy trick if you mess up the orientation. If you exit back to Select Mode, and then change the selected type of gummi block, then change back to your original type, the orientation will have returned to the default. Note that there's more than one way to specify a given rotation. Try to make sure you use the same sequence for parts that are of the same type and of the same orientation. Layers ------ This section is where you specify the actual block positions. The maximum construction area is 10x10x10. So we have 10 layers, each 10x10 in size. The layer number refers to the height of a block. Layer 1 is the top layer. Layer 10 is the bottom layer. Press L1 to move toward the top, and press L2 to move toward the bottom. Each layer diagram is in a standard position. Standard position is achieved by rotating the grid using the right analog stick so that you are looking at the top of the ship. The thrust from your engines points up, and the blue arrow points down. Here's an example layer diagram, taken from my X-Wing example: Layer 6 ------- ... ... ... 004 ... ... 005 ... ... ... 008 024 024 004 035 036 005 028 028 009 008 024 024 004 032 032 005 028 028 009 ... ... ... 014 001 001 015 ... ... ... ... ... ... 016 001 001 017 ... ... ... ... ... ... 029 029 025 025 ... ... ... ... ... ... 029 029 025 025 ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 019 021 ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 019 021 ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 019 021 ... ... ... ... Three periods indicate that there is no block at that position. A three-digit number refers to a block in your index. Note that since many blocks take up more than one grid space, their index numbers will appear in more than one spot, and possibly in multiple layers. For example, the 004 ID refers to a Flare-G engine, which is 3x1x1. 004 appears in three grid spaces because it is three blocks long. 001 is my Full-Life-G cockpit, which is a 2x2x2 block. Therefore it takes up 8 grid spaces, four of which are in Layer 5, four of which are in Layer 6 (shown above). If a given layer has no blocks in it, just put Empty for that layer. One thing to be careful of. Some blocks, like Drain-G, look like they take up less space than they actually do. Drain-G looks like it's only 1x1x2, but it's actually 1x1x4, because it can extend during flight when you pick up an item. =============================== 8.0 - CUSTOM BLUEPRINT DATABASE =============================== -------- Contents -------- 1 - X-Wing ---------- 1 - X-Wing ---------- Contributor: JungleJim Size: 10x10x3 Blocks: 36 Desc: My first attempt at a custom design.
