WHAT ARE SKILLS? ============================================================================= ============================================================================= Q1: Indeed! What are skills? A1: Were you to hack your way thru the game with just basic equipment, you'd not fare very well. Here is where skills come thru. There's over 200 skills in this game and they range from helping you deal greater damage, increase your stats to post-battle effects and other cool bonuses. Q2: How do I get access to these skills? A2: Skills come on two types of items, acc and eq-pieces (weapons, armors, gloves and boots are all considered equipment type items). There's two major differences that must be mentioned. Q3: Which are? A3: Skills on equipment are already learned - that means as soon as you equip an equipment item with a skill, that skill will begin functioning immediately. But skills on acc work differently. Depending on acc, only the *first* (in rare cases two) skill is learned already, you must do battle to level up the acc in order to gain access to more potent skills. Q4: Level up the acc? More potent skills? WTF are you talking about? A4: Leveling up the acc means equipping that acc on a chr and having that chr engage in random battles vs enemies. For each battle entered, each action executed and each enemy killed some chr gains some EXP, which are needed to unlock more potent skills on acc. I'll provide an example. EXAMPLE: Lang equips Sharpshoot Charm. It has Hit Rate Up 1 and Escape Rate Up skills. As Hit Rate Up 1 is first skill on the acc, it is already learned - it is shown in white text, meaning it's already functioning. However, Escape Rate Up is greyed out - meaning you must engage in few battles with Lang and accumulate enough EXP for the acc. When enough EXP is gained, Escape Rate Up will be learned. When on Equip screen and when equipping acc, you will see two numbers next to word EXP in lower right corner of the screen - first number is amount of EXP acc has accumulated so far, while other is amount of MAX EXP for acc. In cases of acc with only one skill EXP will read 0 (zero). Acc with two or three skills require little effort for all skills on that acc to be learned. However, acc with four or more (max amount of skills on one acc is six) require up to 250 EXP. Q5: How is EXP for skills gained? A5: There's three things that award EXP: - 1 EXP is awarded for each battle chr enters - 1 EXP is awarded for each action chr makes in battle - 1 EXP is awarded for each enemy chr has *defeated* If at end of battle chr is downed, no EXP is awarded. Q6: Is there any way I can increase amount of EXP for skills gained? A6: Yep. There's a skill named Skill EXP (laughs), which increases amount of EXP by following formula: Amount of EXP chr has gained multiplied by 166% = amount of total EXP gained ============================================================================= ============================================================================= 6. Now what is THAT? A1: Okies. As you see in the game, skills are shown like this - symbol, followed by a skill name. SKILL CHART ============================================================================= ============================================================================= ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2x Attack Rate | YO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- User's input command is repeated once. Only first set of strikes is dependant on AP gauge, the second set of strikes is not. Example: Lang has 30 AP and inputs commands for Shadow Split, Demon Thrust and Chaos Strike. Lang would attack the enemy using these three techs. Once sequence is finished, 2x Attack Rate will activate and Lang will unleash these three techs again. AP is gained only during *first* sequence, second sequence doesn't add any AP. After Lang finishes attacking, his AP will read 90 AP. Another example: Lang has 100 AP and launches two Sky Fangs (one is worth 50 AP), his AP gauge would be empty, but cos second sequence is not tied to AP gauge, you get to see two more Sky Fangs. Works exceptionally well with Counterattack. Also remember to equip AP Cost Down 3 and AP Boost 3 skills for maximum enjoyment. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2x Item Effect | BX ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restorative items have double effect, when used by user *inside* battle only. This applies to items that heal HP and/or MP. Note that if Maya has this skill equipped, it also affects her origin powers, meaning: for example Solar Guidance will revive downed chr with full HP, not 50% like it usually does. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Absolute Hit | BXP ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Allows all physical attacks (includes *both* your chrs' and enemies' attacks!) to hit the target. This is a very dangerous skill if used in wrong hands, so be careful of where and when you're using it! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Absolute Strike | BXP ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Party is ensured to gain first attack on any random enemies (bosses excluded), excepting special cases. It affects NAR, SAR and HAR. This skill is a double-edged sword IMO. True, if enemy guards All or Nothing activates, you'll score hits with all strikes. But what if it fails altogether? You'll have wasted an attack. This holds true for Maya's origin and restorative type items. Among many scenarios he can use I'll mention two: - uses Flaming Fist - uses Wind Blade, Red Whirlwing and Thunder Moon* * Here's the catch... were you to input those commands in battle with no linking, you'd get to see 17 hits total at the end of the attack. However, Out of Control doesn't include strikes, which lead into the art, only art's finishers - in this case 3 hits for Wind Blade, 2 for Red Whirlwind and 2 for Thunder Moon, resulting in 7 hits total. Example: Lang gives 300 damage with each physical attack, but misses say 2 out of 10 hits. But if I were to equip Lang with Search Art skill and set him on auto mode, chances are he'd attack the enemy with this combo: Hawk Stroke, then 'NEW ART' would appear and Land would use say Blade Dance.
