The smaller creatures i'm sure most players will not be too bothered by them compared to the Bosses. I'll will covering all Bosses except for those 3 online mode exclusives which are the Raoshinra aka Ancient Mountain Dragon, the Black Dragon & the Unicorn Rough Gauge of the Boss Monster's HP ------------------------------------ Getting weak - Breathing fire or smoke from its mouth area. Weakened - Goes into frenzy mode, its attacks become faster. Very Weak - When it starts limping and moving around the map to rest. Boss Monsters by order of the missions they appear in : Iyankuku (Pink Wyvern) ============================== The first draconian boss you face. Its much smaller than its later 'cousins'. Its fairly simple to defeat when you memorise its attacking patterns. Attack Moves : Tail whip Charge (with fireballs when its frenzied) Bite Fireball (Short Range) Weak Points : Most of its body except its tail & wings Located in : 3 Star Mission - Mission 2 & 6 4 Star Mission - Mission 1 Strategy 1 (Most Common Method) ---------- Try and stand under its legs and use the left, right great sword combo. It will normally do its tail whip, either roll out or block it then start the left, right combo again. Strategy 2 ---------- Stay a distance & wait for it to make a charge at you.You will know when it starts scatching the ground with it legs and letting out a howl. Either block or roll away then quickly dash to its back and start hacking. Recommended inventory for beginners : 1) Healing Herbs x 10 (Max) 2) Recovery Medicine x 10 (Max) 3) Grinding Stone x 5 4) Well Cooked Meat x 5 5) Map x 1 6) Flash Grenade x 5 (Some Missions provide 2) 7) Pit Traps x 1 (Capture Mission provide 1) 8) Trap x 2 (Combine with trap to get pit trap) 9) Nets x 2 (Combine with trap to get pit trap) 10) Pink Markers x 10 (Missions provide a few) Poison Bird ============================== The Poison Bird is not considered a Boss as it is not necessary to defeat it. It attacking patterns are very similiar to Iyankuku except that its twice the size of it smaller cousin. It spits poison fumes and hence the name Poison Bird. Points to note: --------------- The Poison Bird can steal your items when you're hit by its beak. It can play dead & faked its death, will strike a very fatal blow if you are near it or try to attack it. Attack Moves : Tail whip Charge with Poison Fumes (Normal & Frenzy mode) Bite (Steals items with its beak) Poison Fumes (Short Range) Flash (Makes the player have a concussion) Fake death Counter Strike (Extremely fatal blow if hit) Weak Points : Most of its body except its Head, tail & wings Located in : 4 Star Mission - Mission 9 Strategy 1 (Most Common Method) ---------- Try and stand under its legs and use the left, right great sword combo. It will normally do its tail whip, bite and charge either roll out or block it then start the left, right combo again. Strategy 2 ---------- When it starts using the Flash attack block then do the left, right combo. You will know it when it starts to bob its head up and down with a clapping sound. Recommended inventory for beginners : 1) Healing Herbs x 10 (Max) 2) Recovery Medicine x 10 (Max) 3) Poison Antidote x 5 4) Grinding Stone x 5 5) Well Cooked Meat x 5 6) Map x 1 7) Flash Grenade x 5 (Some Missions provide 2) 8) Pit Traps x 1 (Capture Mission provide 1 ) 9) Trap x 2 (Combine with trap to get pit trap) 10) Nets x 2 (Combine with trap to get pit trap) 11) Pink Markers x 10 (Missions provide a few) Sand Dragons ============================== The Sand Dragons are more like sharks as their dorsal fins protude through the sand when they are moving underground. These dragons are slightly more difficult to engage as they spend most of the time in the sand. They rarely surface unless you can land a direct blow on them when they 'glide' pass you or use sonic grenades to shock them out the ground. Points to note: --------------- The sand dragons usually glide in a rectangle like pattern until they surface to engage you or they stop and change their directions. When they surface, they will usually jump back into the sand if not engaged quickly. Pit traps DO NOT WORK on Sand Dragons, so don't bring any. Bring coolant drinks as fighting in the desert wears off your HP. Attack Moves : Tail whip (On the surface) Body Slam (On the surface) Bite (On the surface) Sprays a jet of sand (On the surface) Jumps out of sand and sprays sand (Ambush) Flying out of the sand (Has a chance of paralysing effect) Gliding in the sand with Dorsal Fin Weak Points : Most of its body except its tail Located in : 3 Star Mission - Mission 5 4 Star Mission - Mission 4 (Black Sand Dragon) Strategy 1 (Most Common Method) ---------- Try and stand under its legs and use the left, right great sword combo. It will normally do its tail whip, bite and body slam either roll out or block it then start the left, right combo again. Strategy 2 ---------- Stand a distance infront of the sand dragon to make it use its Sand Spray. Evade the sand attack and dash under its legs and slash. Strategy 3 ---------- Use the sonic grenades or explosives barrels to force them out of the sand. Or directly hit them when they 'glide' pass you. This usually makes the dragons flip helpless onto the surface giving you a few seconds to hack them. Recommended inventory for beginners : 1) Healing Herbs x 10 (Max) 2) Recovery Medicine x 10 (Max) 3) Medium Recovery Medicine x 5 4) Grinding Stone x 5 5) Well Cooked Meat x 5 6) Map x 1 7) Flash Grenade x 5 8) Sonic Grenade x 5 (Missions provide 2) 9) Pink Markers x 10 (Missions provide a few) 10) Coolant Drinks x 3 (Mission provide 2) Rioleus (Male Red Fire Dragon) ============================== Rioleus is one of the hardest dragon to hunt in my opinion as it always flies off after taking a certain number of hits. And especially the crap areas it likes to appear in makes it a dangerous foe. Points to note: --------------- Beware that Rioleus can poison as well due to its Claws. Attack Moves : Tail whip Bite Fire Balls (Land & Air) Breathe of fire (Extremely fatal when fire resist is low) Charging Attacking with its claws while in mid air (Poison) Diving attack with claws after circling the area. Weak Points : Most of its body Located in : 5 Star Mission - Mission 5 & 9 Urgent Mission - Mission 1 (2 Dragons Quest) Strategy 1 (Most Common Method) ---------- Try and stand under its legs and use the left, right great sword combo. It will normally do its tail whip, bite or charge either roll out or block it then start the left, right combo again. Becareful of its dangerous breathe of fire as it will execute it when you are behind its tail. Strategy 2 ---------- Stand a distance infront of the sand dragon to make it charge. Evade the charge and quickly dash to it and slash. Alternatively if you are skilled enough run infront of it when its going to charge & quickly use the up attack to do a overhead slash. Strategy 3 ---------- Use the Flash grenades to blind it, you can either attack it directly now or use the time to set the pit trap. If you wish to attack it, just remember to block when it starts to screech or you will be vunerable for a few seconds. If you are using the trap, feint it to charge into the trap by standing a distant away from the trap. Once trapped slash and hack before it frees itself. Recommended inventory for beginners : 1) Healing Herbs x 10 (Max) 2) Recovery Medicine x 10 (Max) 3) Medium Recovery Medicine x 10 (Max) 4) Poison Antidote x 5 5) Grinding Stone x 5 6) Well Cooked Meat x 5 7) Map x 1 8) Flash Grenade x 5 (Some Missions provide 2) 9) Pink Markers x 10 (Missions provide a few) 10) Coolant Drinks x 3 (Mission provide 2) Monoblos (Single Horned Dragon) ============================== Monoblos seems like a hybrid between a triceratops and a dragon. It has wings but they are useless as it can't fly. Its special ability is that it can burrow under the ground to rest or for ambush attacks. Points to note: --------------- Pit traps DO NOT WORK on Monoblos, so don't bother bring any. If you wish bring along some sonic grenades to shock it out of the ground. Attack Moves : Tail whip Bite Body Slam Diving out of the ground (Fatal if not block or evaded) Charging Tail swing Horn strike (Knocks player into the air with its horn) Weak Points : Belly, underneath the tail and the inner thigh areas Located in : 5 Star Mission - Mission 10 Strategy 1 (Most Common Method) ---------- Try and stand under its legs and use the left, right great sword combo. It will normally do its tail whip, bite or charge either roll out or block it then start the left, right combo again. Becareful of its tail whip and swings as it will execute it when you are behind its tail. Strategy 2 ---------- Stand a distance infront of the dragon to make it charge. Evade the charge and quickly dash to it and slash. Alternatively if you are skilled enough run infront of it when its going to charge & quickly use the up attack to do a overhead slash. Strategy 3 ---------- Use the Flash grenades to blind it, just remember to block when it starts to screech or you will be vunerable for a few seconds. Recommended inventory for beginners : 1) Healing Herbs x 10 (Max) 2) Recovery Medicine x 10 (Max) 3) Medium Recovery Medicine x 10 (Max) 4) Grinding Stone x 5 5) Well Cooked Meat x 5 6) Map x 1 7) Flash Grenade x 5 (Some Missions provide 2) 8) Pink Markers x 10 (Missions provide a few) 9) Sonic Grenades x 5 =============================================================================== SECTION FOUR : Contribution and Thanks =============================================================================== Here are the contributors which i like to thank for making this Monster Hunter FAQ possible.
