This if the first FAQ I've ever done for any game out there, so it was a learning experience for me. This FAQ was written for both the Japanese and European versions of the game. While the European version has changed some of the names of the beast form attacks, I will still stick with it's translation rather than using my own as I did in the previous version of this FAQ. This is also not intended to be a spoiler-free FAQ. I'm aware that many people hate spoilers, but this game doesn't have a really stellar plot to begin with, so I'm not going to bother hiding any story elements from you. If you don't want to know what comes next in the game, play it first, THEN read the FAQ. The game is simple enough to beat without much help anyway. F.A.Q. Revision History ----------------------- 2.14.09 COMPLETED!!! Due to my modded PS2 dying on me shortly after the last update, I was unable to finish the guide. Thankfully, Sano Yoga jumped in and supplied the remaining missing info. Many thanks. Well, that makes the guide final too, so enjoy! 5.28.05 Completed more of the Enemy and Unique Enemy Data collection. Finished the Power Up runthrough. Added attack combos and descriptions for each attack for all but the Weretiger. Changed all area and beast form attack names to fit the English version of the game. Also added Gallery Mode descriptions in English. ============================================================================== === T A B L E O F C O N T E N T S === ============================================================================== I. S T O R Y === =============================================================================== As a special military operative, you are sent to investigate a deadly genetic outbreak in a small West Coast town. Hunted by unspeakable horrors and haunted by your past, you soon discover that in order to overcome evil, you must become more than evil. The only thing that can save you is your darkest power, the ability to transform into a variety of powerful beasts. As you defeat wave after wave of failed genetic experiments, the line between human restraint and primal instinct blurs, until nothing is left but the savage desire to uncover the true nature of the beast. =============================================================================== === II. C H A R A C T E R S === =============================================================================== --------------------- - Luke Custer - --------------------- The main character of the game. After suffering a near-fatal wound during his last mission, his body was recovered by Dr. Job's science team and restored. Dr. Jobs then took it a step further and made Luke into a Genome Cyborg, the most advanced prototype yet. Luke is able to carry many types of Genome Chips, allowing him to transform to a beast that best suits whatever mission he is handed. He is then sent off to investigate the sudden Genome Mist outbreak, and to put an end to it at all costs. Since he currently is the only one who can withstand the effects of the mist, he will have to venture out alone. --------------------- - Brad - --------------------- The first Genome Cyborg, Brad is now somewhat left in the dark, as he is an obsolete model in Dr. Jobs' eyes. He begins to hold a grudge with Luke because he thinks himself to be the ultimate Genome Cyborg. To prove it, he sets out to steal the most powerful Genome Chip and get revenge on Luke. --------------------- - Anastasia - --------------------- A mysterious woman who will periodically check up on you and give you bits of information about what's going on. She was the second Genome Cyborg, a Chimera Type, which blends all animal forms into one. However, the operation was a failure, and she is now left in the dark, so to speak, just like Brad. --------------------- - Dr. Eric Jobs - --------------------- The scientist responsible for creating the Genome Chips that Genome Cyborgs use to transform into various beasts. He seems to play favorites with his subjects, and completely loses interest in "older models". Since the appearance of the Genome Mist, Dr. Jobs has gone missing. Luke is told rescue him if possible. =============================================================================== === III. With a Type-S Genome, the Tornado attack can be used to clear rooms of enemies with ease. The Garuda consumes the least Spirit energy of all the beasts, so if you need to quickly get back to an area and running in human form is too slow, just use the Garuda. --------------------- -- 6 . Minotaur -- --------------------- Triangle Button Fire Breath Square Button Gore Attack X Button Iron Guard --------------------- - Acquired Genomes - --------------------- Type-N Increases the power of Gore Attack. Type-S Strengthens Fire Breath, and allows it to be moved right or left. Learning Press and hold the Square button to do a Bull Rush. At max speed, you can break some walls by running into them. --------------------- - Special Notes - --------------------- The Fire Breath works much like the Wendigo's Blizzard, and can easily help defeat most Unique enemies. Dragon -- --------------------- Triangle Button Arc Lightning Square Button Lightning Bolt X Button Hover --------------------- - Acquired Genomes - --------------------- Type-N Increases the power of Lightning Bolt. Type-S The attack range of Arc Lightning is widened and its deals increased damage. Learning When your Rage Meter is full, press and hold the Triangle button to use the powerful Thunder Cannon. --------------------- - Special Notes - --------------------- While the Dragon is capable of hovering, it cannot fly up above the Genome Mist like the Garuda can. The Dragon uses a lot of Spirit, so killing enemies quickly is absolutely required. The Dragon is also the most powerful best form. A fully-charged Lightning Bolt can kill nearly any enemy. --------------------- -- 8 . Grizzly -- --------------------- Triangle Button Petrification Gas Square Button Maul X Button Rolling Bear --------------------- - Acquired Genomes - --------------------- Type-N Increases the power of Maul. Type-S Strengthens Petrification Gas, and allows it to be moved right or left. Learning Press and hold the Square button to emit Nerve Gas. --------------------- - Special Notes - --------------------- The Grizzly has a 20-hit combo that isn't always effective. Pauses between some attacks can cause you to get hit. The Rolling Bear can roll through enemies and certain obstacles, like the tombstones in the cemetery. You may also jump in Rolling Bear by pressing the X button. You may return to normal form by pressing the Square button. Like the Dragon form, the Grizzly consumes tons of Spirit, so do what you got to do with him quickly before your Spirit meter is empty. --------------------- -- 9 . U.W.H. -- --------------------- Triangle Button Gravity Reversal Square Button Zero Gravity X Button Teleport --------------------- - Acquired Genomes - --------------------- None --------------------- - Special Notes - --------------------- The U.W.H.'s Zero Gravity combo can completely kill an enemy once finished. Great for use on hard-to-kill Unique enemies. Gravity Inversion will flip the world upside down. Press the Square button near an enemy to cause them to fly "down" towards the sky. Once the attack finishes and gravity returns to normal, they will fall back down towards the ground and take massive damage. --------------------- -- 10 . Press the X button again any time during the jump to execute a jump-kick attack. --------------------- -- B . Attacks -- --------------------- Here is an attack pattern for every beast in the game, and for Luke as well. You'll have to excuse my crudely drawn ascii art, but it's the best I could do. I have abbreviated the button names as such: T for Triangle, S for Square, and X for...X. Okay so that last one isn't really abbreviated but you get the idea. --------------------- -- 1 . Guide ---------------------------------------------- After the opening cutscene, you begin next to the crashed helicopter, devoid of any memory as to how you got there. The game will demand that you press the R1 button to display the map, so do so to get that out of the way. I will take a moment to describe the functions of the map screen. The upper-left corner of the map displays the area title. Your current position is marked by an orange arrow. The room you are currently in will always be flashing. A special objective will be marked by a yellow, flashing star. Regular enemies are indicated by small, blue squares. Gate Keepers are indicated by larger blue circles. Save Points are marked as green circles with an S in them. Shallow Water Points (for the Merman) are marked by cyan hexagons with a white border. Paths leading to new areas are marked by blue arrows. Secret pathways are marked this way as well. On the map screen, you will see a flashing yellow star in the upper-left corner of the map. Obviously, that's where you need to go next. Head there to discover a conveniently placed, flashing metal briefcase. Press the Square button, and you will be treated to another cutscene where you are attacked by our first enemy, the Living Corpse. This sudden attack gets Luke's adrenaline going, and he shifts into Werewolf form. After transforming, the first thing you'll notice is that the game tells you to press the Start button. Doing so will display all of the Werewolf's controls. Your attacks are: Triangle - Berserker Rage Square - Claw Attack X - Jump Attack The second box below it says that when your Rage Meter is full, you may press Triangle to unleash a Special Attack. This goes for all beast forms you will be getting throughout the game. Next, you'll want to attack the Gate Keeper. All Gate Keeper enemies in this game are identified by the glowing aura that surrounds them, and are marked as large blue circles on the map. Gate Keepers must be destroyed to open the path to the area that the Gate Keeper is blocking off. You can kill other enemies if you like, and get used to the fighting controls for now. You may also notice that the developers have graciously given you every available attack for the werewolf AND infinite Life and Spirit during this sequence, so have fun with this while you can. As soon as you find and defeat the Gate Keeper Living Corpse, an orange=colored spirit will fly into you, and the Werewolf will suddenly stagger a bit, and then fall over. You will be given another cutscene, where we see a mysterious woman appear who doesn't seem to care about really acting her dialog (hehe). She will tell you that you're going to die if the Werewolf takes over your mind. She then injects you with a tranquilizer that returns you to human form. She then quickly vanishes as soon as she had appeared, and you are now able to explore the rest of this area. The game, once again, tells you to press the Start button. This brings up a sort of tutorial menu. For those of you who do not own an English version, I will write the text below. Can now revert to Human Form with the help of tranquilizers. While in Beast Form, you consume Spirit Energy. Defeat enemies and absorb their Spirit Energy. Triangle button Killing Blow You can absorb Spirit Energy directly from enemies, once they have been weakened sufficiently. When the enemy has been weakened, attack it with a "Killing Blow". Once your hand is inside the enemy, press the Triangle button rapidly to absorb the enemy's Spirit Energy. Circle button Transform Collect Spirit Energy, and then press the Circle button to transform! Caution You will start to lose life if you stay in Beast Form after you've run out of Spirit Energy. After the tutorial, you won't have any Spirit Energy left. You may want to head back to the grassy area and fight a few Living Corpses to get some Spirit Energy before proceeding to AREA 1. In case you weren't sure, the top red meter in the upper left corner of your screen is your Life Meter, and the green one below it is your Spirit Meter. After you've got enough Spirit Energy, press R1 to open up your area map, and you will see several paths leading to Areas 1 through 5, making the START POINT sort of like a central hub. Head to the AREA 1 entrance, and you will notice a bunch of large boulders blocking your path. You'll get a message that says, "There is a set of stairs beyond the rubble..." Press the Circle button to bring up your beast menu, select the Werewolf, then release Circle. After the transformation cutscene, you can simply press the X button to jump over the barricade and proceed to AREA 1. That is all you can do in this area for the time being. -------------------------------------------------- -- B . Guide ---------------------------------------------- You start next to a street lamp, and you can see a gate in front of you in the background. Head through this gate, and continue forward. You'll run into two or three Living Corpses along the way, and once you get to the graveyard, you'll get another cutscene showing a Gate Keeper. You have about five or more Living Corpses surrounding him, so transform into the Werewolf and take them down. After killing the Gate Keeper, you will notice the same yellow spirit fly into you again as before. You get a message telling you to press the Start button again. Change back to human form, and press the Start button to bring up your Gene-Manipulation screen. This screen shows all your beast forms and their attack patterns. Whenever you defeat a Gate Keeper enemy, you get Genome Points which can be used to purchase new attacks in your combo. The message tells you, "You can increase the power of Beast Form by injecting acquired Genome into Chip." As a werewolf, you currently only have a 3-hit combo of Square, Square, Square. You can see an extra grayed-out square, two grayed-out Triangles, and two grayed-out X's. You can see at the top of this window the word "Combination", and a number 2 next to it. This means you have 2 points to spend on anything you like. Press X to open the Werewolf's menu, and then X again on the Combination menu. (If you were wondering, the tiny yellow D.N.A. meter under the word "Combination" is just a graphical representation of how many Genome Points you have at the moment.) Highlighting different button presses in the attack pattern will give you a description of what the attack does. If you wish, highlight a grayed-out button and it will show you how many points are required to purchase the move. For now, you will have to save your points to buy "Claw Attack 4" and onward. Exit the menu and continue forward along the path. Looking at your map, you may notice a blue arrow that did not appear before. All blue arrows on the map indicate a path leading to an area you have not been yet. The area that shows up is blocked by fallen trees, which you will later use the Minotaur's Fire Breath to set on fire. For now, you have no way to get in, so keep going onward. Also on the map is a green dot with an S on it, which indicates a Save Point. Save Points have the added benefit of completely restoring Life and Spirit, so make sure to run to one if you're about to die. Note that this effect does not work on the Hard difficulty! Right over the Save Point is a blue arrow, which means you get to go to your first Secret Area! Press the X button in Werewolf form to jump up and you will land on a higher ledge. You'll have to jump up two ledges before you get to the area. Move forwards, and you'll find four groups of enemies and one Living Corpse Gate Keeper. Defeat him to get 2 Genome Points. Back near the Save Point, you can head further along the path and eventually find a path leading to the right of you. It leads to an open, circular area with another secret area that is blocked off by large boulders. You cannot enter because of this, and will have to come back later when you get the Wendigo form. Keep following the main path, and you'll come to an open graveyard with a tall statue filled with Ravens. Among this crowd, you will also find that three of the Ravens are also Gate Keepers. Kill them to get 1 Genome Point a piece, and then proceed to the next area. I will also take note that this area leads to secret area number four. Behind the tall stone statue are more paths you can jump onto with the Werewolf, although you lack the Hyper Jump ability to get there at the moment, so keep it in mind for later. Continue on the same, linear path and you will see yet another secret area entrance about halfway up the stairs to your right. You will need the Garuda or Werewolf to jump up there later on in the game, so continue onward up the stairs for now. When you get to the top, you are treated to a cutscene showing a cathedral courtyard PACKED with monsters! Now is a good time to change to the Werewolf form and start kicking tail. This fight is way easier than it looks. As you will eventually discover, the AI in this game is awful, and most enemies will just wander around when you are not close to them. Use that to your advantage, and pick off the weaklings that are near the outer perimeter of the room. Work your way to the center as you go and eventually, you'll reach some Bloated Corpse enemies as well as three Ogre Gate Keepers who will give you 2 Genome Points a piece. After the fight, a cutscene will show the mysterious lady from before entering into the cathedral, and when it's over, the cathedral doors are now open for you. The last thing to mention is that there are three more secret areas in the courtyard, located on either side of the cathedral doors, and on the left-hand wall. You will need to come back with the Minotaur and use the Bull Rush to break open the entrances on the side of the main cathedral doors, and you will need the Werewolf Hyper Jump ability or the Garuda to fly into the opening in the wall to reach the other secret area. This is all you can do in Area 1, so enter the cathedral doors to go to AREA 2. -------------------------------------------------- -- C . To the east of Secret Area 3 is a seemingly dead-end room. Use the Garuda to fly to the top. ---------------------------------------------- 5 . Guide ---------------------------------------------- Right when you enter, you will be assaulted by four Bloated Corpses. I will take a second to note that there is also a secret area right above you that you will need the Garuda to fly up to later on in the game. Anyway, dispatch of the Bloated Corpses and head further down the hallway until you come upon a large group of Bloated Corpses. There is one Gate Keeper here, who is a Bloated Corpse enemy, but is tinted green and has the ability to vomit acid on you. Be careful when attacking him. After beating him, you get 1 Genome Point. This room is also the first room where you will find a standing Enemy Data icon. In the center of the room is a large, square pillar. The pillar is just tall enough to go off the top of your screen so you'd assume it goes all the way up to the ceiling. However, if you jump in Werewolf form, you will be able to reach the top and pick it up. You will receive Enemy Data 10 - MB1002h (Bloated Corpse). I will now explain how Enemy Data works. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You may have collected a few already, but not understood the conditions of it. There are two ways to get Enemy Data, and that's by either killing the enemy for the data you want, or finding the data hidden in a level. Data that is hidden in a level will always be there until you pick it up, but getting data from enemies is a bit trickier, as they randomly drop the data. Sometimes you will have to kill the same enemy several times before they actually drop it, but they will eventually give it to you. Note that since some Enemy Data can be found lying about the level, the enemy that it comes from will not drop it if you kill him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyhow, continue down the corridor and you will be attacked by four or so Bat enemies. You can just continue running away, as they will not follow you for long. At the end of the hallway, you'll see a white room with a hole in the floor. Jump down, and turn and look behind you to find another Enemy Data in the corner of the room atop some rubble. This is Enemy Data 68 - MB1047m (Bat). Continue onward to be greeted by another cutscene showing a briefcase behind a barred path, and a very large looking monster swimming in the water. Continue on the left path after the cutscene, since you cannot break through he barred path. You will be assaulted by many more Bat enemies, three of which are Gate Keepers. Defeat them to gain 1 more Genome Point a piece. If you have not already, I recommend spending them on the Werewolf's Claw Attack combo. First switch to human form, press Start to bring up your menu. Press X once to choose the Werewolf, and X again to choose the Combination menu. Go down the row and purchase every Square button attack that you can by pressing X on it, then choosing Yes. You won't have enough points to buy the last attack, which costs 8 Genome Points, but this should certainly help you out in battle for now. Note that you are not required to buy these moves to beat a certain boss or anything, they only help to land more hits on an enemy, so don't worry about buying the "wrong move". Experiment and find what's best for you. Personally, I would go with buying as many Square and Triangle attacks as possible. X attacks usually only knock the enemy up into the air so that you can use the Jump Attack to damage them further. This doesn't work well in rooms with low ceilings, so to me it is useless. Now that you're ready to kick some tail, head on further and you'll find two more Bloated Corpses, one green, one red. The significance of red-colored enemies is that they will always drop Life essence behind when you kill them, so keep an eye out for them when your Life is running low. The green ones are able to spew acid vomit all over the place, so be careful when attacking them. Further down the hall is another room where you have a group of Bats and the green Bloated Corpses, one of which is a Gate Keeper. Kill him to get 1 Genome Point. Continue onward and you'll meet a new enemy, the Giant Rat, which are easily run past if you do not want to fight them. However, the very next room has a ton more, including a white one that is a Gate Keeper, so kill him to get 1 more Genome Point. You will also find a secret area directly above the Save Point in the next room. You'll have to come back with Garuda and fly up there later on in the game, so for now, continue on to the right. You will soon discover why the save point was placed where it was. Remember that thing you saw swimming in the water earlier? Well guess what? It's BOSS TIME! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Leviathan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- From the Boss Enemy Data "This rodent somehow swallowed the LC330t (MERMAN) Genome Chip, causing it to mutate drastically. It resembles a short-necked Plesiosaurus in many ways. It has grown fins on it's back. However, due to the fact that only the Genome Cyborg can fully utilize the Genome Chip, its mutation stopped short of full MERMAN form." Leviathan looks like a large rat mixed with a fish. As with most bosses in this game, you'll find that attacking it with the wrong strategy will get you killed really fast. Practically all the bosses are a piece of cake to defeat if you know the right way to go about attacking them, so listen up. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- He walks around on land trying to swipe at you. In the water, he can spit rat bones at you from a distance, or charge out of the water at you if you are too close to the water's edge. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- PHASE 1 Change to Werewolf form as soon as the fight starts and run up to his face and start slashing. After he recedes into the water, run from side to side across the opening to lure him back out. More often than not, he will charge at you, and probably hit you too. I have trouble dodging this attack, but it doesn't take off a ton of damage so you should be fine. I find the best way to avoid it is to watch the surface of the water for lots of splashing, as this means he is about to charge at you. When you see this, wait a split second, and then run back towards the camera. He should just miss you. Another good method is to save your Berserker Rage for when he rises up out of the water. You'll be immune to his attack during the Berserker Rage, so it's best to use it for that since your regular attacks do enough damage as it is. Run quickly to his face and slash him up some more. Repeat this for a while, and after you drain his first life bar, you'll really make him mad. PHASE 2 He'll turn red and go on a rampage. When he does turn red, DO NOT ATTACK HIM! If you do, he will charge at you immediately, and you will take loads of damage. The only way to really kill him from this point is to run around and let him chase you. The best way to do this and not get hit is to run towards his tail. He'll just keep spinning around trying to get you, but won't succeed. After a while, he'll get tired and stop to catch his breath. You'll see him breathing in, and he'll return to normal color. Use this chance to get in and beat him up some more. You'll only be able to get in a few hits before he turns red again, so back off and repeat the process until he is dead. You get a fancy cutscene, and are rewarded with a new Genome Chip! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the death cutscene, walk over to the Leviathan's side and press Triangle to retrieve the Genome Chip. Your memories will suddenly begin to come back as you transform into the Merman. It seems you were sent here to discover the status of Professor Eric Jobs, and since only you can survive in the genome mist, you are being sent out alone. You are still highly classified, and thus were sealed in that box and shipped by helicopter. That explains a whole lot...or something. Anyway, now that you are a fish dude, I recommend getting out of the water and buying some powerups if you have any Genome Points left. This form only has a five-button Square combo, which just repeatedly shoots out Bubble Bombs. Your attacks are: Triangle Decoy Square Bubble Bomb X Swim / Surface By holding the X button, you will float towards the surface of the water. But, if you hold the X button while moving, you will simply swim forward. Continue on the path and to your left, you'll notice some stairs with white beams of light shining down from the surface of the water. Visually, this indicates a Shallow Water Point whenever you're in Merman form. These points are also indicated by cyan colored hexagons with white borders on the map. The stairs only lead to a secret area, which you need the Wendigo form to get to, so skip it for now and head to your right where you'll meet your first underwater enemy, the Bonytongue. There is also an Enemy Data in this area, but again, you need the Garuda to get to it. Continue along the path until you exit the water and you will find the briefcase you saw earlier. You get a cutscene showing you picking it up, and you discover that it is the LC330t (Merman) Beast Data. Follow the path and run past the Giant Rats on the way. They won't attack you unless you stop. The path is pretty straightforward until you get to a hallway on your right that seems like a dead end. You'll have to, yet again, come back with the Garuda form later on and fly up there. For now, exit into the water, and swim along until you reach the Start Point area again. Back at the Start Point, you will notice on your map that the briefcase from earlier is flashing yet again. This means you are now able to pick up the LC311 (Werewolf) Beast Data. Now that the flames from the helicopter wreckage have gone out, you can easily cross over and retrieve it. Do so, and then head back to the Save Point and enter the water once more to get to AREA 3. -------------------------------------------------- -- D . In the area with the two houses, there is a group of damaged trees. Use Minotaur's Fire Breath to burn them down. 3.) Behind waterfall, must use Garuda's Diving Attack to fly through. 4.) Behind purple tumor in river leading to Sarsuchus. Use Merman's Depth Charge to get through. ---------------------------------------------- - 5 . Guide ---------------------------------------------- As you enter the area, look on your map and you will see two clusters of enemies in the water, a Shallow Water Point, and a flashing star. You'll want to head for the star first. You will also notice on your map what seems to be a dead end further past the Shallow Water Point, but swim there anyway to find Enemy Data 46 - MB1035f (Bonytongue) tucked away in the bushes. I should also take time to mention that there is a secret area here that you must use the Garuda to reach. It's right next to the waterfall, but you need to first get onto dry land, transform, and fly over to reach it. On dry land, you'll be assaulted by several Wasp enemies, two of which are Gate Keepers and give you 1 Genome Point a piece. After dispatching of them, head over to that flashing star on your map and you'll see a bunch of cables with a tiny flashing star over the middle one. You'll receive a message that says, "It appears to be connected to the floodgate...". Change to Werewolf form and slash the cables until they are all broken. You are given a cutscene showing the floodgate opening, and more baddies coming through. Head back into the water as a Merman and proceed to the newly opened floodgate. There are a ton more enemies, as well as one more Amphibian Gate Keeper. Kill him to get 2 more Genome Points. After that, you can go through the floodgate and head to the next area. After swimming a bit, you'll happen upon a lot more Amphibian enemies and another Gate Keeper. Kill him for 2 more Genome Points. After this, you have a choice to either continue north, or to go back on land to the west or east. Going west will give you another Gate Keeper, which gives you 2 more Genome Points. There is also a Secret Area to the west, with scarred trees blocking the path. You'll be using the Minotaur's Fire Breath to get past it, but since you do not have that form now, you will have to skip it until later. On the east side is an Amphibian Gate Keeper, who will also give you another 2 Genome Points. After this, you can continue north as you were before. In the next area, you'll fight a bunch of Alligator Fish, and if you head northeast, you'll find Enemy Data 14 - MB1003h (Amphibian) beneath the waterfall. To the very left of the waterfall is also a Shallow Water Point, but the area has very high steps and you can only jump up there with the Werewolf's Hyper Jump ability, so you'll have to come back to that later. For now, go west and exit the water. You'll arrive on a very short dirt path with a few enemies on it, as well as another Gate Keeper. Defeat him for 2 more Genome Points. I would also recommend taking the time to buy more of the Merman's Bubble Bomb combo, as a five hit combo helps greatly with tougher enemies and drops bosses and Unique enemies like they're nothing. In this new underwater area, you'll be greeted by very large frilly tentacles jutting out of the wall, as well as a bunch of Crayfish on the riverbed. Taking the eastern path results in a dead end, so go west instead. About halfway along the path, you'll see a large, purple, pulsating Membrane blocking a secret area. You need the Depth Charge attack with the Merman to blow it up, which you will get later on, so keep it in mind. Keep heading west and when you get to the Shallow Water Point, get up on land and save your game at the conveniently placed Save Point. In this game, you will notice that they often place Save Points right before bosses, so if you wanted to purchase any new moves, do so now. There is a large wall next to the Save Point that displays a message when you walk near it saying, "It looks too steep to climb.". This high ledge leads to AREA 4, but you cannot enter at the moment without the Hyper Jump ability for the Werewolf. Luckily, you are about to get it! Keep heading west until you get to a Shallow Water Point, and turn into the Merman. you get a cutscene showing yet another large baddie. That's right, it's boss time! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Sarcosuchus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- From the Boss Enemy Data "This alligator is actually an escaped experiment subject. It has developed stegosaurus-like plates on its back, each ending in a sharp blade." Sarcosuchus is basically a really large catfish, only he looks like an alligator. He's a pushover if you bought most of your Bubble Bomb attack combo, and even if you didn't, he's still a breeze. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- He charges at you, trying to bite into you. He will also violently swing his tail at you if you get too close. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- The best time to attack him is when he's charging right at you with his mouth open. As soon as he opens his mouth, fire several Bubble Bombs into it, and it'll hurt him tremendously. Another good tactic is to chase him down and fire at his tail repeatedly. When all else fails, just keep shooting at him like there's no tomorrow, and you'll drop him amazingly fast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After his death cutscene, a blue Spirit will fly into you, and you will be asked to press the Start button. Get onto dry land and do so. You have obtained the Werewolf Learning Genome, a genome that allows you to perform a special ability that can allow you to get to new areas. This ability must first be activated, however, so press the X button once to choose the Werewolf, and then press down to highlight Learning, and then the X button to use it. Choose Yes when prompted, and that's all there is to it! Now, run back to the Save Point, and be sure to save your game. Remember that wall you couldn't jump over? Well, now you can! Transform into Werewolf form, and press Start. You'll see a move that tells you to charge the X button. This is your newly learned Hyper Jump ability. Press and hold the X button for three or more seconds to store up a charge. You'll see the Werewolf's feet begin to glow. Release X to jump really high, up and over the wall. You may now proceed to AREA 4. -------------------------------------------------- -- E . Fly over the lake as the Garuda. 5.) Atop the waterfall after the Sasquatch's lair. ---------------------------------------------- - 5 . Guide ---------------------------------------------- This area is pretty much a forest, so it can get a little confusing as to which direction you're heading without constantly looking at the map. With that said, load the map up, and head west until you get to the first blue arrow pointing southwest, and head that way. You'll come upon a Gate Keeper. Defeat him for 1 Genome Point. If you backtrack a little and continue along the western path you entered the area from, you'll find a large boulder at the end of the path. After you get the Wendigo, you may return here for a secret area. After you defeat the Gate Keeper, head back along the southwestern path and you will come to a clearing full of Wild Boar enemies, one of which is a Gate Keeper. You know the routine. Defeat him to get 2 Genome Points. After all the Wild Boars are gone, continue along the path as before. You'll eventually reach a very large swampy area with tons of Giant Toads, and of course, one of them is a Gate Keeper, which will give you 1 Genome Point. There are two paths in this room. One leads to the boss, one leads to more Gatekeeper Giant Toads. If you head on the northern-most path, it will bring you up a hill to a small pond with a lot of lilies. You will be able to hear the Giant Toads chirping, but won't be able to get to them. To do so, you'll need the Minotaur form first, and you'll need to use his Iron Guard to sink through the pond and to the floor beneath. Remember this for later. Head south to reach a Save Point, as well as a Shallow Water Point. Save your game, as you're about to fight another boss. Enter the water and swim forward and you will see a ton of enemies, as well as three Gate Keepers who give you 1 Genome Point a piece. After they are dead, head through the open hole in the wall and it's boss time! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Sasquatch ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- From the Boss Enemy Data "This creature is the result of a frog mutation, after it ingested the LC350t (WENDIGO) Genome Chip. It has the capability of generating the same chilled breath as the WENDIGO, and its physiological make up has changed to become closer to that of a mammal. Interestingly, this creatures has retained its ability to swim, giving it high mobility." Sasquatch doesn't really look like a sasquatch at all. In fact, he looks more like a frog person than anything else. Regardless, he has three phases of attack, all of which are fairly simple. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- While swimming underwater, he will swim from wall to wall and cling to it. He will then try to spit ice shards at you. While hanging from the rafters, he will spit ice shards at you, as well as slam down onto you if you stand below him for too long. Finally, he will jump up and down, causing ice shards to rain down from the ceiling. He will also rear up on two legs for his ice breath attack, which will leave you frozen for a few seconds. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- PHASE 1 In his first phase, you will fight him underwater. He will swim to one wall, cling onto it, and fire ice projectiles at you. The best strategy is to swim towards him as quickly as possible, and shoot Bubble Bombs at him nonstop. If you're fast enough, he won't get the chance to shoot back at you, and will try to swim to the other wall instead. Do this until you get a cutscene that shows him jumping up through the ice floor. This begins phase two. PHASE 2 He will now hang from a beam on the ceiling and try to spit ice shards at you. Switch to Werewolf form, run beneath him, and start jumping! You will have to charge your Hyper Jump to reach him, but this is the only safe way to attack him in this phase. Be warned that if you stay beneath him for too long, he will turn red and try to fall onto you. The Hyper Jump attack will drain his health tremendously if you jump while directly under his shadow for a spot-on hit. After you drain his second Life meter, he will fall to the ground and begin to attack you himself. PHASE 3 Quickly slash at him until he breathes frost into the air. This is your cue to get the heck out of dodge as he begins jumping up and down fiercely, which causes tons of ice shards to rain down. He will also rear up onto two legs for his ice breath attack, which will leave you frozen for a few seconds. Keep attacking him between his own attacks, and you should have him dead in no time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the death cutscene, walk over and press Triangle to retrieve the new LC350t (Wendigo) Genome Chip. More of your memories return, and we see Dr. Jobs rambling on about how you passed all the tests with flying colors, and are the ultimate Genome Cyborg. Luke seems like he could care less. Anyway, afterward, you are now a Wendigo. Hopefully you saved a few Genome Points to buy some extra moves for him too, as he does not have much of an attack combo from the get-go. Your attacks are: Triangle Blizzard Square Wendigo Attack X Pick Up / Throw Continue on through the only open corridor, and you'll come upon a large boulder blocking your path. You'll get a message saying, "Wind is blowing from behind the boulder.". Press the X button to pick the boulder up, and then the X button again to throw it. You can now continue on down the corridor. You'll eventually find another briefcase containing the Wendigo Beast Data. Keep going and you'll finally come to a Shallow Water Point. Switch to Merman, and swim west to find Enemy Data 40 - MB1031f (Dunkleosteus). Swim east to head back to AREA 3. You'll get a cutscene that seems as if you are falling off the top of a waterfall, and will appear back in the water near the entrance of AREA 3. Head south and return to the Start Point. Climb out of the water and save your game. At the entrance to AREA 5, you'll get a message saying, "A giant boulder is blocking the entrance to what looks like a tunnel.". You now can use the Wendigo's lifting ability to move the boulder blocking the path to AREA 5. Do that, and head there now. -------------------------------------------------- -- F . Guide ---------------------------------------------- First things first, AREA 5 is all about Gate Keepers, Gate Keepers, and in case you hadn't noticed, GATE KEEPERS! It seems like every time you turn around, you're fighting another one. The plus side is, you'll be leaving this area with a lot more Genome Points, so be happy. As soon as you enter AREA 5, you will see two groups of enemies led by two separate Gate Keepers. Kill them to get 1 Genome Point a piece, and you'll notice that a panel pops up telling that there are five Gate Keepers total. Make sure to pick up the cars in this area, as one of them contains Enemy Data 8 - MB1002h (Bloated Corpse) beneath it. Continue onto the next room to find two more Gate Keepers which are on fire. You can use the Wendigo's Blizzard to extinguish them and then punch them until they are dead. They each give you 1 Genome Point a piece. Go down the alley that the Gate Keepers were blocking, and turn west at the intersection. You'll come to a gas station, and a bunch more enemies led by, what else, another Bloated Corpse Gate Keeper. (Very original, no?) Kill him to get 1 more Genome Point, and a panel pops up that tells you there are 7 total Gate Keepers in the area. Oh joy. Head directly south along the road leading from the gas station to reach the next Bloated Corpse Gate Keeper, who will also give you 1 Genome Point. Back at the narrow alley intersection, take the southern route. You'll enter a narrow, caged area with more purple-colored Bloated Corpses, and one of them is a Gate Keeper. Bag him for 1 Genome Point. Heading east from this path leads to what looks like a water treatment pool, and there is of course, another purple-colored Bloated Corpse Gate Keeper here. Kill him for 1 more Genome Point. This water treatment pool is also a secret area. You will notice you are able to swim around in the pool, but cannot really seem to get anywhere. If you walk over to the wall, there is a giant piece missing, and you can see Bonytongue swimming around in the water, as well as an Enemy Data hovering on the water's surface in the corner of the room. You'll have to use the Dragon's Arc Lightning to energize the underwater door, so that you may swim into this room. Since you lack this form now, you'll have to save it for a rainy day. Continue heading south, and then you'll come to a path leading west. Follow it to the end, passing up the road leading north, and you'll come to a group of new enemies, the Rooster. Defeat the Gate Keeper to get 1 more Genome Point. Backtrack a bit, and take the northern road you passed up earlier to fine two more Rooster Gate Keepers, who give you 1 more Genome Point a piece. One is near the auto garage entrance, and one is to the west near the spillway. I should mention that you cannot enter the spillway from here. You now have all 7 Gate Keepers destroyed, so you can head back to the auto garage, and it'll be accessible. Inside, you've got a lot more Ogres to fight. Dispatch of them, and use the Wendigo to pick up the car in that first room. Beneath the car, you'll find Enemy Data 25 - MB1005h (Ogre). Proceed to the next room and beat up more Ogres. In the very next area, you'll see a bunch more cars, as well as Ogres, one of which is (Gasp!) a Gate Keeper! I totally didn't see that one coming! In any case, kill him for 1 Genome Point. Head through the hole in the wall to find, Oh no! A Gate Keeper is on fire! Put him out for yet another Genome Point. Now follow the path around the white picket fence, avoiding Ogres along the way. When you get to the next area, you can look on your map to see three more Gate Keepers. However, we'll ignore them for now and head south to the entrance of the spillway. Change to Merman form and swim on through. Avoid the Crayfish enemies, and head inside the tunnel. Inside the sewer tunnel, shoot down the Bonytongue enemies, and then follow the tunnel until you get to a round entrance that will appear to your left. You currently aren't able to enter because of the purple pulsating Membrane blocking the door. However, look through the barred gate in front of you, and you should see a Bonytongue Gate Keeper on the other side. You cannot get to this room, but you can shoot him through the bars! Do so and you'll get 1 Genome Point. Head back to dry land, and continue north along the path. There are several things to note in this area. One is the 18 wheeler that is leaking fuel. This is a secret area that can be accessed by igniting the flame with the Minotaur's Fire Breath. The Gate Keepers in this area are out of your reach, are on fire, and are also trying to spit on you, so leave them alone for now. At this intersection, you may either go west to the Save Point and the boss, or go east to find another flaming Gate Keeper and his friends. I'd recommend beating up the Gate Keeper first since Genome Points can be used to buy new attacks, and as we all know, if you're in a game based on fighting and you have no decent attacks, you're bound to get your butt whooped. Anyway, defeat that Gate Keeper and you'll get 1 more Genome Point. Finally, head west and enter the parking lot to fight the boss. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Aeshma ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- From the Boss Enemy Data "This large creatures is actually a MB1002h mutated by the Genome Mist. It further increased in size after the initial mutation when it ingested the Learning Genome of the LC350t (WENDIGO)." Aeshma looks like a baby that was caught in the Genome Mist and was horribly mutated. He's now nearly two stories tall and really cranky. He's also one of the more annoying bosses in the game, as his attacks tend to ruin your own attacks. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- He will pick up cars from his pile, or enemies nearby and try to throw them at you. If you get too close, he will pound the ground in front of him, and you as well. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- When the fight starts, run up to one of the wrecked cars. Change to Wendigo form and pick the car up. If you are far away from Aeshma, press the Triangle button to throw the car up into the air. It will travel further than if you press Square to throw it in front of you. Aeshma will attempt to pick out a car from the pile he's sitting by, or one of the enemies nearby and toss it at you. If you are holding a car above your head and you get hit, the car will explode, and you'll fall over and take damage. Since the Wendigo is really slow, it's next to impossible to avoid getting hit. The best time to throw a car at him is AFTER he tries to throw one at you. Do NOT run right up to him and attempt to beat him up, as he will pound his fists all over you, and turn you into Wendigo pancakes. If you do run out of cars to throw at him, he will give you a fresh supply by tossing a bunch more your way. These will skid across the ground and eventually come to a stop. Just keep tossing the cars at him and he'll die in due time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After his death cutscene, a blue spirit will fly into you. Change back to human form, and press the Start button. You now have the Wendigo Learning Genome. With this new Genome active, you are now able to create Ice Blocks in Wendigo form. Hold the X button down for about two seconds, and he'll breath into his hands, creating an Ice Block. You may then press either Square to throw it in front of you, or Triangle to throw it into the air. This ought to work nicely on those Gate Keepers hiding on top of that building eh? Walk over to the Gate Keepers, create an ice block, and press Triangle to throw it up at them. The best way to do this is to jump onto the bus with the Werewolf first so that you have a decent camera view to aim with. It may take a few tries since this game lacks an obviously needed lock-on feature, but after you kill them all, you'll not only get 3 Genome Points from them all, but you'll unlock the door to the shopping mall! Guide ---------------------------------------------- The shopping mall is composed of four floors, so it won't take you very long to get through it. There are several rooms on each floor to explore, and most, if not all of them, contain a Gate Keeper or two. I'll start on the first floor. --------------------------- - F I R S T F L O O R - --------------------------- Make your way across the floor until you get a cutscene showing the Sytry, a griphon-like monster that attacked the helicopter in the opening movie! He walks away calmly, and you're left to fight several enemies. The first Gate Keeper is in the southwestern corner of the mall, right past the gift center with the checkered floor. Defeat him for one Genome Point. You'll also see a panel pop up telling you that there are 6 Gate Keepers in the area. Head to the west and enter the room there to find another Gate Keeper, and kill him for one more Genome Point. You may then head east from this room to get to the bookstore, where a Bloated Corpse Gate Keeper awaits. Peel his potato for another Genome Point. Head northeast from here to get to the snack stand, and kill the Bloated Corpse Gate Keeper for 1 more Genome Point. Run north from here to get to the very empty grocery shop to find an Ogre Gate Keeper. Bag his groceries for another Genome Point. Finally, head west from here to get to the movie theater and kill the Ogre Gate Keeper for another Genome Point. You're done on this floor, so head to the escalator and we're on to the second floor. --------------------------- - S E C O N D F L O O R - --------------------------- On the second floor, we'll first head west and then north to get to the clothing store for another Ogre Gate Keeper. Kill him for 1 Genome Point. Head south, and you'll see two stacked vending machines blocking the entrance to the room, and of course, a message will tell you, "A vending machine is blocking the door." Change to Wendigo, pick it up, and toss it out of the way. Enter the office area. In the back, shadowy room, you'll find three Bloated Corpse Gate Keepers, who'll give you 1 Genome Point a piece if you kill them. Now exit the room and head west to the opposite side of the floor, and you'll find a room leading to an elevator, and one more Bloated Corpse Gate Keeper who'll give ya 1 more Genome Point. The elevator leads to a secret area. It tells you, "It doesn't appear to be receiving any power.", so you'll have to come back as the Dragon and power it using Arc Lightning. Head north from here until you reach another, very empty, clothing store. It has an Ogre Gate Keeper who gives you 1 Genome Point when he dies. Continue north to reach the Ogre Gate Keeper who's just kind of wandering around aimlessly. He'll also give you 1 Genome Point when he's defeated. Finally, head east to reach the utmost northern room on this floor, and defeat the last Ogre Gate Keeper and get 1 more Genome Point. With all 8 Gate Keepers on this floor dead, you are now allowed to reach the third floor, so head back to the center of the room and go up the escalator to the third floor. --------------------------- - T H I R D F L O O R - --------------------------- On the third floor, we will first head east to the jewelry store, where we'll find a Berserker Gate Keeper. Kill him for 1 Genome Point. Continue east, and then north along the balcony to get to the pet store. There is a Giant Toad Gate Keeper here, only he's clung to the ceiling. The only way to hit him is to use the Wendigo's Ice Block and toss it at him using the Triangle button. This seems easy enough, except that there are also other Giant Toads in the room, and they keep spitting acid on you. Be careful not to let them hit you too much, as this knocks the Ice Block out of your hand, and even knocks you on your back. Grrr. Anyway, one hit is all it takes to drop him, so get it done as fast as you can, and you'll get another Genome Point. Continue north on this path and you'll run into a cluster of Berserkers, one of which is also a Gate Keeper. Take him to Funky Town for another Genome Point. Start backtracking, and about halfway, turn and face the balcony rails. On your map, you should be able to see a large blue dot, indicating a Gate Keeper. If you look towards the ceiling, you'll probably see a Giant Toad hanging around up there. You may have noticed them before, spitting on you from the second floor. Dispatch of him by throwing an Ice Block with the Square button. You'll get 1 more Genome Point. Continue back south, and then west. Stop about halfway again, and knock down the other Giant Toad for another Genome Point. Continue west, and then turn north at the corner. Go north until you reach the arcade to your left. Before entering, turn and kill the last Giant Toad on the ceiling to get 1 more Genome Point. With him gone, enter the arcade and you'll find two Bloated Corpse Gate Keepers. Show them who's got game, and you'll get 1 Genome Point from each of them. You can also get a MB1002h (Bloated Corpse) Enemy Data by smashing one of the arcades in the northernmost corner. Head out of the door, and then return south to the staircase, and you can now enter the area that was blocked off before. In the right corner of the room, the camera pans up to show a grating in the ceiling that is somewhat cracked. You'll also get a message saying, "The ceiling looks cracked and brittle." Switch to Werewolf form, and charge your Hyper Jump. Jump up, and you'll tear a hole in the ceiling. You are now on the fourth floor. --------------------------- - F O U R T H F L O O R - --------------------------- Quickly head to the Save Point to get some health, and save all your work. Now, head to the southeast, and destroy the Ogre Gate Keeper for 2 Genome Points. Yeah, I'm amazed you finally get 2 instead of 1 as well. Anyhow, head back northwest and enter the room there to find three Berserker Gate Keepers, who also give you 2 Genome Points a piece! Yay! Dispatch of them, save your game, head into the gymnasium, and prepare for boss action! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Sytry ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- From the Boss Enemy Data "This was once the experimental T100 (FLAUROS), but it ingested the Genome Chip of LC340t (GARUDA). The GARUDA chip was originally designed for the LC3xx Series, but due to unseen variables, the chip appeared to be compatible with the T100 as well." Sytry is basically a griphon; a mix of a lion and an eagle. He also must be fought in two separate areas, much like the Sasquatch from before. His second phase is really annoying as well. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- PHASE 1 Upon entering the gymnasium, Sytry will fly around a bit, looking for a chance to strike. When he's about to strike, he'll turn red, and dash right at you. The best thing to do is just avoid him by jumping out of the way. He may then try to land and throw feathers at you. If you can get behind him, you have a great opportunity to start slashing him as the Werewolf. If your Berserker Rage attack is full, I'd also recommend using it every chance you get, as it can stun him and allow you to get in a few extra hits. After you drain his first health bar, he'll crash through the roof. Use the Werewolf's Hyper Jump to follow him up there, and this begins phase two. PHASE 2 On the rooftop, he'll fly around trying to dive-bomb you with feather shots. He'll also try to dash into you as he did before. Do not run beneath or behind him, because he will quickly shoot down onto you and claw you. He'll also fly to the center of the roof and shoot large clumps of feathers at you, which do great amounts of damage. The best way to avoid this is to watch for large circular shadows that appear near your feet. Simply run away from these. To attack Sytry, change to Wendigo form and throw an Ice Block at him using the Triangle button. He'll fall to the ground, and this is your cue to shred him to pieces. I recommend using the Werewolf, as he attacks much faster. However, using the Wendigo's Blizzard attack will greatly drain the Sytry's health, so the choice is up to you. Repeat this process several times to finish him off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You get a cutscene showing more of your memories coming back. Apparently, while you can withstand the effects of the Genome Mist, not even Genome Cyborgs can withstand extremely high concentrations of it. You then transform into Garuda, and enter AREA 7. -------------------------------------------------- -- H . Secret Areas ---------------------------------------------- None ---------------------------------------------- - 5 . Guide ---------------------------------------------- Here you are, finally at the top of the Genome Mist. This area can be compared to an RPG's overworld map. You can get to all the areas you've previously visited from this one area. Now that you are the Garuda, you can fly anywhere you like! Your attacks are: Triangle Tornado Square Feather Dart X Flap Wings Now that you've beaten the boss, you probably need health, and will want to save. On the map, you'll notice that every area you've been to so far is listed, with a yellow arrow pointing down. These are the areal entrances to each area. Head over to one, and it will look like a vortex in the clouds. Simply press the Circle button to enter, and you'll drop down to the area of your choice, usually right next to a Save Point. You'll get a quick cutscene of Brad appearing on the roof where you fought the Sytry. He walks over to the wounded beast, and, seeing how well you did, says to you, "You're getting stronger, but next time will be your last." After saving your game, press the X button repeatedly to fly up into the air as high as you can, and you'll be asked if you want to enter AREA 7 or not. Press the Circle button, and you'll fly up high into the Genome Mist. Back in AREA 7, look on your map to see a flashing yellow star where you defeated the Sytry. Head back there to pick up the LC340t (Garuda) Beast Data. You will also find Enemy Data 59 - MB1034b (Raptor) on the roof as well, although it is off to the right side of the stairwell access. If you fly up a bit with the Garuda, you should be able to see a small niche between the wall of the stairwell access and the railings of the roof where the Enemy Data is hiding. It's very easy to overlook. Now you can have a little fun exploring if you like, since this area contains no boss or real goal whatsoever. The only thing you can get from this area is a few Genome Points from several Gate Keepers flying around near each area vortex. You can, for now, head east until you reach the cathedral near AREA 2. On the balcony, you will find Enemy Data 56 - MB1041b (Owl). The first group of Gate Keepers is near AREA 2. Fly low towards the edge of the level, and they will raise out from the clouds. The entire group of enemies is composed of Owls, which can be quite difficult to attack and defend as well without losing a bunch of damage, so do not stay stationary for too long. Fly forward using the X button, and press Square while moving to fire off twin feathers. This does not do as much damage as a stationary multi-feather attack, but it's the only way to attack while on the move. Defeat the three Owls to get 1 Genome Point a piece from them. The second group of Gate Keepers can be found past the AREA 4 entrance vortex. Head to the vortex, but just keep flying past it and the grouped of owls will rise up from the mist. Kill the three Gate Keepers for another 3 Genome Points total. The third and final group is also past the AREA 3 entrance vortex. Just fly by it like you did with the AREA 4 one and kill the three remaining Gate Keeper Owls for another 3 Genome Points. You are now done with this area. Fly over to AREA 8 and get ready for a boss battle. -------------------------------------------------- -- I . Now that your Life is full, fly north along the canyon. Just by seeing the cobwebs, you should have already figured out what you're about to fight. As you fly forward to the web-covered pillar in the center of the room, sure enough, a large, red spider climbs on top of it. It's boss time! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Xenesthis ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- From the Boss Enemy Data "This arachnid mutated when it swallowed the Learning Genome of LC340t (GARUDA). The webs it spins are extremely thick and are capable of holding up to 1,000 kg with a single strand. It uses its front two legs to hold down its prey with sharp, dagger-like points." Xenesthis is your typical large spider boss from (insert any game here). Thankfully, when you kill it, no baby spiders come out. This boss is also a joke. It takes practically two to three minutes to beat. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- It will try to spit green body parts at you, which are easily dodged. After attacking it a bit, it will turn read and leap at you into the mist below. It will also try to spin green spiderwebs into the air. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- When the fight starts, it may try to spit green body parts at you. Move aside quickly, and then get fairly close to it and fire a stationary Feather Dart at it either once or twice. Xenesthis will get angry, turn red, and jump at you. You'll have enough time to react, so as soon as he turns red, turn around and fly far away and to the side. He should miss you quite easily. As he climbs up the tower, you have a chance to strike with your Tornado move. Fly right next to the tower, about halfway down, and as soon as he gets near you, activate the Tornado. It will hurt him quite a bit. Fly up top and repeat the process over again until he's dead. That's really all there is to it. When he tries to catch you with his spiderwebs, a good way to avoid it is to use the Tornado move, as you are invincible for it's duration. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the death cutscene, yet another blue spirit flies into you. You have now collected the Garuda Learning Genome. Land on the web-covered platform Xenesthis was perching on to equip the Genome and learn the Diving Attack. With this attack, you can not only cover great distances much faster, but you can also burst through certain walls. To use the attack, hold the X button for a few seconds. The camera view will change to a behind-the-shoulder view, allowing you to aim which way you'd like to dive. Release X when you've chosen a direction, and you'll fly off like a missile. It also can damage enemies. With this new ability, you can now head over to the Check Point entrance. However, you'll notice the entrance to the Sytry's lair has been blocked by cobwebs. Use the Diving Attack to break through and continue to the Check Point entrance, where you'll get a message saying, "There is a dense patch of enormous spiderwebs.". It appears you'll also have to dive through. -------------------------------------------------- -- J . Looking on your map, you'll see that this area branches off into three other areas. Obviously, you'll want to do them in order, so head to Area 9 first. Along the way, you'll get a cutscene, where you learn more of the story. The mysterious lady appears, and begins telling you that "Project Altered Beast" was a top-secret project funded by the army, and kept secret from all but the high-ranking officials in Washington. The whole idea was that soldiers could absorb the D.N.A. of animals and work it into their own systems, allowing them to use that animal's abilities. The result of the project was you, and another. She tells you that Brad is currently looking for the most powerful Genome Chip, and she hates to think of what will happen if he gets his hands on it. Luke asks who she is, and she finally tells him her name; Anastasia, a former employee for Dr. Jobs. With that, the cutscene is over, and you are free to roam around. This area is pretty much a hub for the surrounding areas, so there are no enemies, Enemy Data, Gate Keepers or secret areas to be found. Save your game and restore your Life here whenever you are about to die, that's pretty much the only function this area serves. -------------------------------------------------- -- K . Guide ---------------------------------------------- AREA 9 opens up as a mining town that leads into the caverns nearby. The area is pretty dead to begin with, having only two Berserkers to fight. You will find two Enemy Data's here. The first Enemy Data 36 - MB1019c (Centipede) is on the top of the first house to the west. Use the Garuda to fly up and grab it. The second Enemy Data 36 - MB1019c (Centipede)to the west of the house where the railroad tracks cross. Heading into the cavern, you'll be assaulted by many Centipede enemies. They're more of a nuisance than anything, so I'd usually recommend you avoid them. However, there are two Gate Keepers in this room. Funny thing is, they're nowhere to be found! Walk to the western part of the room, and you'll notice a large boulder that is moving a little. Change to Wendigo form and pick it up to uncover the Gate Keeper. There is a similar boulder on the opposite side of the room, near the gate. Kill both of them for 1 Genome Point a piece, and continue through the path that they were blocking. You'll eventually reach a room filled with Wild Boar enemies, one of which is a Gate Keeper. Kill him for 3 Genome Points. I also want to remind you that if things get too dangerous, you can usually change to Garuda form and attack from the air. Most of the enemies in the game cannot perform areal attacks, so you can have an advantage that way. Walk into the elevator, stand completely still, and press the Square button to activate it. After you reach the lower floor, continue along the path until you see a fork in the road. One path leads east, while the other continues north. You may skip the eastern path for now, as it is a secret area you will require the Minotaur's Fire Breath to access. Follow the northern path and you'll eventually come upon a room full of new Mole enemies. I'm not completely sure, but I believe that you have to kill all the regular Moles before the Gate Keeper becomes vulnerable. I tried killing him by himself with the Werewolf for at least two minutes, but he didn't die until I killed the others first. It may have just been a fluke, but if not, that's what you have to do to kill him. He'll give you 2 Genome Points upon defeat. Make sure to also fly up with the Garuda and grab Enemy Data 34 - MB1017m (Mole) sitting on top the tracks in this room. I'd make a habit of using the Garuda to check for secrets like this, as they are usually placed right off the camera's field of view. Continue on the path that was blocked previously and you'll get to a room where there are two conveyor belts. The first one I'll talk about is the one to the east that is blocked by a large boulder. Contrary to what you may be thinking, you do not use the Wendigo to lift it up. This conveyor belt is actually lacking power, so you'll need to use the Dragon later on to energize it. The one you want to actually go to is the first one to the north that has tons of Amphibian enemies that are constantly spitting at you. Trying to walk along the conveyor belt will result in you getting repeatedly knocked back. The solution? Use the Garuda to fly just over the top of their spit. Land on the other side and take them all out. You'll also find a conveniently-placed save point. I'd recommend saving now. Travel east a bit and you'll also find Enemy Data 50 - MB1038s (Giant Clam) tucked away in the dark. Proceed north to reach a water exit point, and swim on in as the Merman. You'll come to what looks like a dead-end. There is another one of those large purple Membranes covering the entrance to AREA 10, and a message tells you, "The path is blocked by a giant cell membrane.". However, if you look on the ground, you'll see a pair of tracks that heads off to the right (north on your map). Follow these, and it's boss time! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Callichthys ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- From the Boss Enemy Data "A test catfish in a local river ingested the Learning Genome of the LC330t (MERMAN) and mutated into this creatures. Its ability to generate electricity appears to have been added to the creature's physiology, leading one to suspect that it was actually developed as part of the LC35x series. It technically should have the same series number, but due to the drastic changes in its physiology, it was assigned an altogether new code number." Callichthys is a giant catfish that is so easy, you'd just assume he was a really large enemy rather than a boss. He has a lot of electric attacks that seem like they'd rip you a new one, but mostly fizzle out in the end. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- He shoots electric spheres at you. Some may hit the ground and explode, others are like homing missiles. He may also wind up and release an array of vertical bolts of electricity that reach from ceiling to floor. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- Shoot him! Shoot him a lot! There's really no need to go into much detail. He swims around and fires at you, so just dodge his attacks and never stop shooting him. He'll eventually drop without much hassle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the death animation, you'll get the Merman Learning Genome. With this, you can perform the Depth Charge by holding down the Square button until the bright aura builds in front of your mouth. Releasing it shoots a very powerful blast that can finally blow up those purple Membranes! Swim over to dry land, save your game, then activate the Learning Genome. Now return to the water and shoot the Membrane with the Depth Charge to clear it. You'll also get 3 Genome Points for it! What a sweet deal. Guide ---------------------------------------------- You'll immediately have to exit the water when you start, so do so and continue along the path. Ignore the Moles when you get to them and keep going until you reach the tall room filled with Bats. You'll find that three of them are Gate Keepers. Defeat them for 1 Genome Point a piece. As to where to go next, you may have noticed the light shining from above. Fly up there as the Garuda, and you'll find an open tunnel in the wall. You'll also see large boulders repeatedly rolling down the path you need to go up. Getting hit by one of these will knock you back a good ways, so it's lucky for you that there are crevices in the wall to hide in. Make your way along the path by running into these crevices and waiting until the boulders pass, then quickly running to the next one. At the end of the path, you'll see a steep cliff leading to a room with a waterfall below. You want to drop down here, not continue up the boulder path, as there are no more crevices to hide in that way. You can come back later when you have the Minotaur. Drop down into the room below and you'll get a message telling you, "Watter appears to be leaking from the ceiling.". There is also a secret area nearby that can be burned up with the Minotaur's Fire Breath. Skip it for now, and fly to the top of the waterfall. Up there, you'll find a new area with a bunch of Amphibian enemies. Kill the three Gate Keepers to get 1 Genome Point a piece from them. Follow the path south, and you'll arrive at a Save Point. Save your game, because oh yes, it am the boss time again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Balrog ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- From the Boss Enemy Data "" No, this isn't the boxer from Street Fighter II, it's a bat of the same name though. Balrog is just a really large bat creature that uses fire to attack. You'll quickly learn to hate it because during the first third of the battle, you have to fly to the ceiling with the Garuda to attack it, and its fireballs will quickly knock you out of the air. It's a long, annoying fight, but it can be quickened if you know the proper method of attacking. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- During phase 1, it will hang from the ceiling and shoot three fireballs simultaneously, or sequentially. If you get behind it, it will execute a flamethrower-like attack that will drain your Life tremendously. During phase 2, it will hop around the room trying to ram into you. During phase 3, it will hover low to the ground while on fire, and spit fireballs at you. If you try to fly as Garuda, it will ram into you and set you on fire as well. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- PHASE 1 First things first, switch to Garuda and fly to the top of the room. Do NOT begin shooting it. As soon as you reach the same height as it is, it will start lobbing fireballs your way. You'll want to fly to the side of Balrog and send one stationary Feather Dart it's way. Do NOT mash on the Square button, because this game has a bad habit of remembering every button you pressed in sequence, and you'll actually fire a bazillion times before you can move again, leaving you open to attacks. Just take it slow and press Square only one time, then start moving again. As you fly, Balrog takes a few seconds to turn and face you. This causes a break in its attacking, which is the best time to attack it yourself. While staying to the side of this boss is a good idea, you do not want to get totally behind it, as it can flip backwards and shoot a huge flame at you that does tons of damage. Just alternate left and right sides of the room and fire at it when you feel it's safe. After you deplete it's first bar of health, it will fall to the floor and then climb back up to meet you for a second round. Do the same thing as before, and it will drop to the ground permanently this time. PHASE 2 Land on the ground and switch to Werewolf form. Since Balrog has now turned red, attacking it would be a bad idea. This part is exactly like your first fight with the Leviathan. Let it chase you around until it catches its breath, then sock it with your Berserker Rage attack if you're close enough, and a few more regular slashes for good measure. Make sure to also pick up the Life and Spirit left behind by the smaller bats that get killed during Balrog's rampage. After draining that health bar, it's on to the final phase. PHASE 3 Balrog sets itself on fire and starts hovering around the room. Do not try to attack it as the Garuda, as it will only fly right into you, setting you on fire as well. Aside from that, your feather attacks do nothing for damage. Just switch to Wendigo form and throw Ice Blocks at it until its dead. That's all there is to it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After it's death scene, you'll get a cutscene showing the power struggle between Luke and Brad. Brad is leaving with stolen Genome Chips, and Luke tries to stop him. We see Brad transform into the Weretiger, and Luke transforms into the Werewolf. They face off against each other, with Brad emerging the winner, and Luke having a new scar over his chest. Well, now we know how he got that scar. You will now have obtained the LC352t (Minotaur) form. Heading east will reveal another briefcase containing the Beast Data for the Minotaur. Your attacks are: Triangle Fire Breath Square Gore Attack X Iron Guard Follow the path leading to AREA 9, and a closed tunnel will block your exit. However, there are a few cases of dynamite in the area, and the popup message tells you, "This dynamite still looks usable.". So, switch to Minotaur form and wait for your special gage to fill up. When it's full, press the Triangle button to execute the Fire Breath attack, which will ignite the dynamite and clear the tunnel. Exit to AREA 9, and then make your way back to the Check Point. Head over to the Save Point, and you'll get a cutscene where you enter the building and find a memo that Anastasia had left behind. The memo reads, "Finally, the 'Dragon' is available; it is the next generation of Genome chip and means we will be able to reach the third concept stage that is the 'Creation of Mythical Beasts'. Data conversion has been completed and the Genome chip is being created at the power station close to the research institute. I cannot wait to see the strongest, most powerful creatures ever to walk this earth!" Guide ---------------------------------------------- At the start of AREA 11, you'll be blocked off by an 18-wheeler. A message will appear telling you, "There's gasoline spilled here." Like with the dynamite, use the Minotaur's Fire Breath to blow up the truck. Proceed to the opened area, and you'll have plenty of Ogres to deal with. Head to the northern room and use the Wendigo to move the cars out of the way. You can now have at the Gate Keepers, who give you 2 Genome Points a piece when defeated. There is a path leading south from near where you start, but it leads to a secret area that you cannot get to just yet. For now, just backtrack a bit and head north along the path, and then east around the corner. You'll come to one area that is blocked off by purple-tinted electricity. You can only pass here as the Dragon, so skip it and keep going. You'll come to a room that is filled with new Accipitarian enemies. Kill the one Gate Keeper to get 2 Genome Points. This can be a bit tricky since there are so many of them and they all dive-bomb you at once. I found the best thing to do is hover around the opening of the room as the Garuda and send stationary feather attacks at them, and when your Tornado move is ready, fly out into the thick of them and use it, then fly back out again. After they're all dead, run to the southwest corner of the room, and you'll find the MB1005 (Ogre) Enemy Data hiding just behind it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm going to take a second to mention that there is a door here leading to AREA 12, but we do not want to take it just yet. There are plenty more goodies to get in this area. You can go ahead and go explore if your curiosity is getting the better of you, though you won't get very far. :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that you have the Enemy Data, switch to Garuda form and fly up and over the junk heap to get to the higher ledge and continue north until you get to the factory, and inside, head northwest along the balcony to find the MB1005 (Ogre) Enemy Data right under the ladder. Continue down into the main area of the room and you'll meet a new batch of enemies known as MP531 (Frogman). These Frogman enemies are very annoying, as they can roll up into a ball and not only ram into you, but they can jump into the air with it as well, leaving safe areal attacks off the list. Use the Minotaur to attack them, and press the X button to activate your Iron Guard whenever they try to ram into you. This will prevent you from getting hurt at all. Kill the Gate Keeper to get 3 Genome Points from him. In the next room, you'll find a large pool. Enter into it as the Merman and you'll find four purple Membranes. Charge up your Depth Charge by holding the Square button, and then let them have it. You'll get 3 Genome Points a piece for every one that you destroy, giving you 12 Genome Points total. In the last area of that pool, you will also see a wall lined with cracks. Use your Depth Charge on it to reveal a new room, and something strange will happen. Suddenly, a timer with 60 seconds appears on your screen, as well as a Life bar. You have found your first Unique enemy! Quickly sink to the floor and pelt it relentlessly with your Bubble Bombs to defeat it. Remember that you have a limited time before it disappears, so try to make every hit count. When he's defeated, you will get the TX4vi (IO) Unique Data, and something special. Every time you defeat a Unique enemy, you'll get a special item or a bunch of Genome Points. You can get a Type-N Genome, or a Type-S Genome. This Unique has given you a Type-N Genome, which can be equipped on the beast form of your choice. It will increase the power of your normal attack, making it also look different. Here is a list of what this Genome can do for each beast form, so that you can decide who to use it on. Werewolf - Creates a cloudy blue aura around claws when attacking. Merman - Makes the Bubble Bomb much larger and brighter. Wendigo - Covers fists in ice shards. Garuda - Surrounds feathers in white light. Minotaur - Adds more fire to the Gore Attack attack. I recommend using it on the beast you use to attack the most, preferably the Werewolf. The Merman is also a good choice, as you will find many more Unique enemies underwater, and this will help to kill them much faster. Whatever you choose, it's permanent, so make it count. If you want to experiment, save your game first, equip the Type-N Genome the same way you equip a Learning Genome, and test it out a bit. If it's not to your liking, reload your game and equip it on another beast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I will also take a second to mention that you can go back to previous levels and look for more Unique enemies to fight right now if you would like to, although I am going to save that until after you get the Dragon form so that it can be done in one quick run. Most of the Uniques will be found in previous boss lairs, so if you really want to get some powerups now, you can take a break from the FAQ and get them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll also find the MP531/C (Vepar) Enemy Data in the northwest corner of the pool room, beneath the platform sticking out of the water. Grab it quickly, and exit the water, as you have probably by now nearly or already ran out of Spirit gage. If this happened, you could be in trouble health-wise. The best thing I have found to do is to switch to Garuda form and fly back to the Save Point in the Check Point area. The Garuda takes off the least amount of spirit gage, so even if it does empty out and start sapping your health, you'll still be able to survive safely until you reach the Save Point. Not only that, you'll be flying out of the reach of most of the enemies, so you won't have to worry about getting hit. Return to the factory pool area, and head through the broken area in the wall. Keep moving past the few Frogmen until you get to the group of Orcs, and kill the Gate Keeper to get 3 Genome Points. Take the northern path to find a dead- end full of Orcs and Accipitarians. There are three Orc Gate Keepers who'll give you 3 Genome Points a piece! What a great deal! Backtrack a bit and take the eastern route this time, and you'll come upon a Save Point. You know what that means, right? It's boss time...well, not quite yet. The door near the save point actually leads to AREA 12, so go through and we'll continue the boss strategy there. -------------------------------------------------- -- N . Hopefully you took my advice and saved your game before entering this area, because you stand a chance of losing this fight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Ose ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- Ose resembles a panther. This boss also takes a bit more initiative than the others, and by that I mean you can't simply run up to it and start button- mashing to kill it. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- Ose perches on top of the corner pillars and breathes smoke at you. He'll also jump near you, causing a shock wave to spread out and hurt you. He'll later charge from wall to wall covered in a red shield, and then straight at you. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- The first thing Ose will do is jump onto one of the pillars and start breathing purplish smoke at you. This can only be avoided by using the Minotaur's Steel Form. Block every time the clouds pass over you, and you'll be fine. Do not continuously hold down the X button, because the block does wear off after a few seconds, and you stand a chance of being hit when you're vulnerable. When Ose realizes this attack isn't working on you, it'll jump to the center of the room, causing a large shock wave to erupt which can also be avoided by blocking. Try to be somewhat near the center of the room when he does land so you can use your Fire Breath to take some damage off of him. After about two seconds, he'll jump back onto the pillar and repeat this attack again. A cheap, and really fast way to drain his first bar of life is to use the Garuda's Feather Dart and Tornado attacks with both Type-N and Type-S Genomes active. You'll get hit somewhat, but you'll drop his life in no time. After you drain his first bar of health, Ose will begin glowing red and charging from wall to wall. Eventually, he'll turn and aim for you. You'll have to be ready to block when he comes at you. If you can block fast enough, he'll get a face full of iron Minotaur, and will drop unconscious to the ground. This is your cue to switch to Werewolf form and beat the crap out of him. He will get up after a few seconds and walk over to one of the vents and inhale the red smoke coming from them. Keep beating him up until he charges off again, and repeat the process all over. He'll be dead in no time, especially if you used your Type-N on the Werewolf. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the death animation, you'll get the Minotaur Learning Genome, which allows you to perform the Bull Rush. Simply press and hold the Square button for a few seconds, and the Minotaur will stomp his feet and start running. It takes a few seconds to build up enough speed to be really destructive, so whatever you're planning to bash, make sure you're far enough away first. There's a room at the opposite end of the area entrance that displays a message saying, "There are cracks in the wall." when you approach it. The next room actually requires you to use this move, so stand near the door leading to AREA 11 and charge up the Bull Rush, then run straight across the room into the dented doors. You should break through with no problem. The next room in this area has a very large wall that keeps moving back and forth. When I first played, I assumed since they had just given you the Bull Rush, you had to use it to run along with the wall to reach the room at the end of the hall. However, you simply have to press X to use the Iron Guard, and the wall will back away from you. Keep using it every time it gets close to you, or it will knock you far back and you'll have to start over. Note that this building's sections are marked on the walls as you go. You are currently in "AREA-01". In the next room, you'll find a new enemy, the Pan. These jerks can spit fire at you, so be careful. You may want to attack them with the Minotaur, since fire attacks will not knock him down, and also take much less damage. Defeat the Gate Keeper for 3 Genome Points. In the "AREA-02" hallway, you'll be stopped by a large grid of purple electric beams. Slash the panel on the right with the Werewolf to deactivate the electricity, allowing you to pass. gauntlet-type beams moving up and down and whatnot. Just be careful as you jump over them, and run under them. At the end of the hall is another grid of impeding electricity. As before, there is a panel on the wall behind the beams that you must throw an Ice Block at using the Wendigo. The next area has a bevy of Orcs you must kill. Defeat the Gate Keeper there for another 3 Genome Points. Follow the hallway as you were, and you will see you are now in "AREA-03". In the corner of this hall, you'll notice an elevator. Jumping on it produces no effect, so you'll need to fly up with the Garuda. You are now in "AREA-08". Continue north on this path and you'll come to "AREA-07", a pool in the corner of the room. Enter the pool and swim until you reach a purple membrane. Destroy it with the Depth Charge to get 3 Genome Points. Exit the water, and you'll now have to face a Frogman Gate Keeper. Kill him for 3 Genome Points. Now, completely backtrack to where you entered the elevator shaft, and continue down the hall you didn't go to before. You'll come to another large pool with a gap in the middle of the bridge that connects both sides of the room. Walk over to the panel, and press the Square button to connect the bridge. Since you destroyed the membrane, the bridge will be able to close properly. Walk over to the bridge, and use the Minotaur's Bull Rush to cross the bridge and break the doors open. Enter the water as the Merman, and kill the Frogman Gate Keeper for 3 Genome Points. Continue down the tunnel to find yet another Frogman Gatekeeper. He'll also give you 3 Genome Points. Exit the water, and head further down the hallway to find a room full of Pan. Kill the Gate Keeper for 3 more Genome Points. Follow the hallway in that room to find a save point, and two more branching hallways. Save your game first, as always, and take the northern path now, since the western path is full of electricity. Of course, it's now boss time, for the second time in this area. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Weretiger ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- A fan favorite returns from the original game! Brad finally caught up with you, and he doesn't want you to have the Dragon Genome Chip. Using his Weretiger form, he decides to fight you. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- He has the standard claw attack, and can also jump kick you as well as jumping onto a wall and leap-kicking off of it. After his first health bar is depleted, he'll jump on top of the pillar and hurl "tiger stripe" projectiles at you. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- PHASE 1 This is a regular fight for the most part. He'll attack you like any normal enemy, and will try to counter-attack you as well. He'll jump off of the wall for a flying jump=kick attack, so be careful and avoid it if you can. I found that running up to him and simply slashing away with the Werewolf if sufficient. Make sure to use your Berserker Rage whenever it's available to knock him on his rear. PHASE 2 Brad will cover himself in a protective sphere, and slowly...slowly, run to the other end of the room, where he'll jump onto the pillar there and being lobbing projectiles at you. The safest place to be is behind the greenish control panel where you entered the room. His projectiles cannot hit you there. Switch to Minotaur form, and use the Bull Rush move from behind the panel, and as you are running, aim for the pillar that Brad is standing on. It already has a few cracks in it, so this will weaken the support much more. After you hit, quickly switch back to human form, and run back behind the control panel where it's safe. Repeat this procedure two more times and the pillar will collapse. PHASE 3 This phase is exactly the same as the first, except he has a few more moves. He'll try to jump kick you, and will even taunt you a bit. Attacking with the Werewolf is ideal, since it takes of a lot of his health. The best thing to do is stay away from him until he roars in fury. When he's roaring, quickly run over to him and beat him senseless. This is the best way to attack him without him being able to fight back. Make sure to also use your Berserker Rage whenever possible, and he'll go down in no time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the fight, Brad is seriously wounded, and you ask him why he released the Genome Mist upon the town. He tells you that he didn't do it, and then he realizes it must have been Anastasia. He then runs away, leaving you to collect the Dragon Genome Chip. Walk over to the control panel and press Square to lower the platform, and then Triangle to grab the chip. As your memories flood in, you find that Luke was mortally wounded in his last mission, and Dr. Jobs recovered his body and made him into the third Genome Cyborg. He introduces Brad to you, as well as the third Genome Cyborg, Anastasia! *cue dramatic plot- twist music*. Anyways, you are now armed with the most powerful of forms, the LC353t (Dragon). Your controls are: Triangle Arc Lightning Square Lightning Bolt X Hover Return back to the Save Point, save your game, and head to the hallway near the Save Point that is full of electricity. A message will appear telling you, "A high-voltage current is blocking the way.". Switch to the Dragon form and fly right on through. The electricity will not harm you. Isn't that great? In the next room, you'll also find a secret area behind the cardboard boxes. Attack them with the Werewolf, and you'll see a tiny square hole in the wall. You can only enter this room with the Grizzly form, so you'll have to come back after beating the game. Exit this area, and you'll emerge in AREA 11 near the Accipitarian enemy group. Continue west down this path, and you'll run right into the hallway of electricity you could not get into before. Since you're so close, you might as well go ahead and enter it with the Dragon form. Inside, you'll find 3 Ogre Gate Keepers who each give you 2 Genome Points a piece. Head back to the entrance of this level, and you can now take the path leading to the cracked wall (Secret Area 1). Inside, you'll find 2 Ogre Gate Keepers who give you 2 Genome Points a piece. On the map, you'll see a shining yellow star when you enter, so head to it and slash it with the Werewolf. This will cause two Satyros Gate Keepers to appear. Kill them for 3 Genome Points a piece. Head to the next room north from the one you are currently in, and you'll find a large room filled with water. Enter it, and swim beneath the dividing wall, then rise up and exit the water again. Fly the farthest south you can to find the MP513t/H (Amdusias) Enemy Data hiding in the corner. Return to the catwalk, and slash the control panel as the werewolf to summon two Ranapiens Gate Keepers. Kill them to get 3 Genome Points a piece from them. Exit the room and continue east and you'll come to a hallway that is blocked by a large purple energy field. This is the entrance to the final boss, which will be activated after we finish all the rooms in this area first. Continue east from this entrance and enter the next room. In this room, head to the star indicated on your map and slash the panel to summon two Orc Gate Keepers, who give you 3 Genome Points a piece when you beat them. You will also find the MP541/R (Vedrfelnir) Enemy Data perched atop one of the pillars in this room. In the southeastern room, you'll find a bunch of Raums, and another control panel. Slash it to summon two more Raum Gate Keepers, who will also give you 3 Genome Points a piece when they're defeated. Now that this is done, you may enter AREA 15. Head back to the Save Point, save your game, and enter the door leading downwards. You'll come to an open, grassy room, where you'll find what looks like a ton of unique enemies, but they are just standard versions of them. Then, a really huge one appears. Guess that means it's boss time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Basilisk ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- For those who played the original, you'll probably recognize it as the enemy from level 2, where you play as the Dragon. It's also no surprise that the Dragon is the best form to use in this situation. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- Jumps at you, or shrieks into the air, sending out a large shock wave. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- This boss is a piece of cake. Simply change to Dragon form, fly up high enough so that the smaller TX4 enemies will not hit you, and charge up your Lightning Bolt. When you max out, release them and watch Basilisk's health drop! Make sure to use your Arc Lightning attack whenever it's available to really do some damage. That's all there is to it. The only problem you'll really have is if you take too long. Basilisk will attempt to eat one of the smaller TX4's, which will fully restore it's health, so kill it as quickly as possible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the death cutscene, you'll be an unidentified Learning Genome. Because you do not know what it is, you cannot equip it just yet. I will tell you for now that it will be used on the Grizzly beast form when you unlock it after finishing the Elevator of Doom minigame. For now, continue into the elevator to reach AREA 15. -------------------------------------------------- -- Q . It is encased in a glass tank, and the only way to kill it is to use the Grizzly's Nerve Gas to choke it to death, so come back later. When you reach the southernmost part of the hallway, you'll encounter two Hrimfaxi Gate Keepers who give you 4 Genome Points a piece. Continue further, you'll come upon a creature encased in a glass tube. Looks like it's boss time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Rhinorian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- Rhinorian is a rhino creature that really wants to give you a hard time. This is pretty much the most annoying fight in the game, as it takes a long time to really do any damage at all. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- He can set himself on fire and charge at you, as well as shoot fireball shots at you. In addition to fire, he can shoot ice shards at you like the Sasquatch could. He'll also jump into the air and body=slam himself down onto you. When up close, he will start a multi-hit punch combo. He even has his own version of the Gore Attack. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- The first thing I must mention is that this boss WILL NOT harm you while you are in human form. In fact, he'll sit down and meditate until you assume beast form again. You can always use this opportunity to use the Spirit Steal to refill your Spirit meter. Just make sure you only hit him once. Hitting him more than once will cause him to return fire. With that said, switch to Minotaur form and start using the Gore Attack. You'll notice this is the only boss that actually blocks your attacks. When he does block, stop attacking for a second and then resume when you see him move his arms away from his face again. Keep the Gore Attack up until your Fire Breath is charged, and then use it on him. You can continue using this whenever he's nearby, but another good strategy is to use the Bull Rush. Start it far enough away from him so that he won't hit you and cancel it out, and then run around the room until you can get an open shot at him. If he doesn't block it, you'll take off nearly a fourth of his Life meter! Remember that if you run around with the Bull Rush for too long and your Spirit meter empties out, just return to human form and Spirit Steal some Spirit from the Rhinorian as he is meditating. After his first Life meter is depleted, he'll glow red as most bosses do, and will start doing a super charge. You'll see him surrounded in a red globe before he does the charge. --ADDITIONAL STRATEGY FROM SANO YOGA-- "I found out that it is actually faster and easier to beat Rhinorian with the Wendigo. Simply pummel him with Wendigo's Square Combo everytime he is not blocking, and use the Blizzard attack on him when the rage meter is full. The Blizzard attack works like a charm on this Boss. Works far better than the Fire breath of the Minotaur. The only downside is the fact that Wendigo can not block Rhinorian's attacks, especially the charge attack, therefore to dodge his charge attack it is better to switch to human form and then run behind the pillar in the center of the room. That's all there is to it." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the death animation, you'll be awarded the Dragon Learning Genome. Equip it to learn the Thunder Cannon. You may now return to AREA 14 and save your game in the main hallway. It is that this point that you may face the final boss and beat the game, or return to areas you've previously beaten to acquire additional powerups. While I've beaten the game with minimal powerups, I can tell you that it is MUCH easier with them. The choice is up to you. If you want to collect these powerups, then skip to Section V. If not, continue reading below for the boss strategy. Back at the top of AREA 14, you must now head over to the northern hallway that is blocked off by purple electricity and gas. You'll get a very broken English message saying, "That powerful energy field enables me to get any closer.." Yeah...so, anyway, change to Dragon form, and wait for your special meter to fill up. When it does, press and hold the Triangle button to activate your Thunder Cannon. Use the left analogue stick to aim towards the gas, and then release Triangle to fire. The resulting blast will clear up the hallway, and you are now able to fight the boss. Upon entering, you will get a cutscene, where all is revealed. We see Anastasia, and she begins to explain her actions. Brad was the first Genome Cyborg to successfully undergo transformation. However, Dr. Jobs wanted to create a Genome Cyborg that could control multiple Genome Chips at once, so work began on the "Chimera" type. Anastasia was to be that type, but her system was flawed. Luke was then used to make the Chimera type, and it was a success. Soon after, Dr. Jobs lost all interest in Brad and Anastasia, causing them to hold a grudge. Anastasia released the Genome Mist because she knew that Luke would be sent in to combat it. To show Dr. Jobs, who has now been horribly mutated by the Genome Mist, that she is better than Luke, she transforms and attacks him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Chimera ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- This is it, the final boss! She has five forms, of which most are easily dispatched. You'll get a cutscene showing her further transforming every time you knock off a Life meter. She is also the only boss that you must beat twice in order to obtain her Boss Data. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- During the first phase, she only throws large skulls at you. After that, she will use ice attacks to shoot at you, which you are mostly immune to with the Wendigo. She'll also use a quick dash attack. Sometimes she will rear up on her hind legs and glow red. When she does, back away from her and you'll be fine. During the third phase, she'll switch to fire attacks, which you are mostly immune to with the Minotaur. She has a move similar to your Fire Breath, as well as a tail sweep. After that, she'll grow wings and head to the air, where she'll use lightning ball projectiles, and an air-dash move where she is covered in electricity. She'll also hover in the center of the room and send out large tornadoes, much like the Garuda's one. During the fifth phase, she will become a spider that can stand tall in the air, or crouch down low. When she stands tall, be sure to watch for her slam attack, where she will quickly lower to the ground and send out a shock wave. She will also use an attack similar to the Grizzly's Stone Breath, that will freeze you for a moment. Her lazer beams also have this effect. During the final phase, she will send out worm-like seekers that crawl along the ground, and explode when they reach you. She can also use flash grenade type attacks that blow up in random locations near you. Finally, she can use a lazer beam attack that uses multiple lazers to sweep the area in front of her. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- PHASE 1 Immediately transform to Dragon form, and charge up your Lightning Bolt to maximum capacity, and release it as soon as it's ready. Chimera will try to shoot these flying head things at you. Dodge them the best you can, and just keep pelting her with Lightning Bolts, and she'll go down in a flash. A cutscene will follow, and it's on to the next phase. PHASE 2 Quickly change to Wendigo form, as she will now attempt to use ice attacks. As the Wendigo, you'll not be harmed by them. The best thing to do is to rush in and start pummeling the large scar on her torso. This is the only weak point on her body. Do not bother using your Blizzard, because since she is now using ice to attack you, it will not hurt her in any way. All of her ice attack do minimal damage, but you will quickly get annoyed by her stab move, as it will always knock you back. If you can finish a three-hit Square combo, she'll always drop Spirit and Life essence, and this stab attack will most surely stop you from pulling it off. The only really big attack you need to watch for is when she rears up on her hind legs and starts charging a large, red beam. Run away from her, and she'll eventually use the attack, which causes large ice shards to spring up from the floor near her. PHASE 3 This is the same as the one above, only you'll now use the Minotaur form to avoid her fire attacks. Again, attack her up close, and use your Bull Rush whenever you see an opening to do so. Also, you now have the advantage of blocking by using the Become Steel ability whenever she tries to stab you and knock you back. PHASE 4 She grows wings and takes to the skies. Now, I have no clue why, but you would think that since she is using electrical attacks that you should change to Dragon form. Doing so will quickly get you killed. Instead, use the Garuda form and try to dodge all of her electrical attacks for the time being. Do not try to hit her yet, because you'll only get hit by the more powerful lightning balls she sends out. After a few seconds, she'll stop firing and make her way over to the center of the room. Use this opportunity to land a hovering Feather Dart or two, which takes off a pretty decent amount of damage. When she starts flapping her wings and is covered in what looks like a tornado, quickly fly, or change to human form and run to the corner of the room. Large tornadoes will encompass the entire room, but you will be completely unharmed in the corner. After they dissipate, she will continue the attack as before, with lightning bolts. Just make sure and shoot Feather Darts at her whenever she isn't attacking you. PHASE 5 She'll turn into a spider-like creature. Use your Werewolf form to run beneath her when she is elevated into the air, and simply jump up at her. Whenever she is low to the ground, you cannot hurt her. When she slams onto the ground, jump to avoid the shock wave. Make sure to stay behind her as much as possible in this form to avoid her stone attacks. PHASE 6 This is the final form. She will become stationary, and hold up a large white plasma shield. Using the Dragon form, you will need to fire several fully- charged Lightning Bolts to destroy the shield. After that, one or two more fully-charged Lightning Bolts or an Thunder Cannon attack will completely destroy her. Any attacks she has can easily be avoided by flying left or right. After you destroy her, you get the final cutscene, and you win the game! You have now unlocked the Elevator of Doom mode. SECRET AREA 1 =============================================================================== In the very first room leading from Area 1, you can fly up to the ceiling with the Garuda and not only find the MB1045b (Raven) Enemy Data to the west, but a secret room to the east. At the end of the hall, you'll come upon a Giant Rat Gate Keeper, who gives you 2 Genome Points when you kill him. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== At the savepoint, use the Garuda to fly up. At the top, you'll find a trap similar to when you fought Ose. As the Minotaur, press the X button to use the Iron Guard, which will prevent you from getting knocked back to the beginning of the hall. Every time the spiked wall gets too close to use, use the Steel Form, and eventually you'll reach the doorway at the end. In the next room, you'll find your second Unique enemy. The Minotaur's Fire Breath or the Wendigo's Blizzard will do nicely. For an added punch, try pressing the X button repeatedly with the Wendigo to pick up and slam the TX4 into the ground until it is dead. It will not be able to escape. SECRET AREA 3 =============================================================================== After the Leviathan's room, exit the water and head north until you come to a path blocked by a fallen pillar. Use the Wendigo to pick up and throw the pillar. In the next room, down the hallway, you'll encounter a swarm of Bloated Corpses who're protecting a Unique. The best way to get at him is to first clear the room of enemies by using the Minotaur's Bull Rush from the hallway, and then use the Wendigo to pick up and slam the Salamander until it's dead. Since it is fire-based, use the Wendigo's Blizzard to take off massive damage. You'll be rewarded with a Type-S Genome. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== In the area with the two houses, there is a group of damaged trees to the west. Use Minotaur's Fire Breath to burn them down. Inside, you'll find two Wasp Gate Keepers who give you 1 Genome Point a piece. SECRET AREA 3 =============================================================================== In the area past Secret Area 2, you'll find a waterfall. Near the top, there is a cave that can be seen behind the water. Use the Garuda's Diving Attack to burst through. You must be a small distance away from the waterfall for it to work. If you try to dive through when you're right next to it, it won't work. Inside, you'll find a pool filled with Dunkleosteus' and a Unique enemy. Use the Merman's Bubble Bomb to dispatch of him quickly and gain the Type-S Genome. SECRET AREA 4 =============================================================================== There is a Shallow Water Point near the waterfall in secret area 3. Once there, either fly up with the Garuda, or Hyper Jump up to the top with the Werewolf. Once there, you'll find a large lake. Enter it as the Merman, and you'll find three Bonytongue Gate Keepers who'll give you 1 Genome Point a piece. SECRET AREA 5 =============================================================================== In the riverbed with all the long, frilly tentacles, you'll find a large purple Membrane covering a tunnel. Fly over the lake as the Garuda. 5.) Atop the waterfall after the Sasquatch's lair. SECRET AREA 1 =============================================================================== From the entrance of AREA 4, head west until you reach a large boulder. Use the Wendigo to pick it up and throw it aside. As you enter, there will be a hole in the wall to your left (south on the map). This leads to Secret Area 2. Continuing on the path you were on, you'll discover six Gate Keepers. Three of them are Berserkers and the other three are Frogmen. They each give you 1 Genome Point a piece upon defeat. At the end of this area, you'll come to a large pond. Fly to the northeastern part of it with the Garuda, and you'll find the MB1004h (Berserker) Enemy Data hidden in the bushes. Continue forward, and enter the pond as the Merman to discover a purple Membrane. Destroy it with a Depth Charge for 3 Genome Points, and continue through the tunnel to find a Unique enemy. Pelt him with more Bubble Bombs to get a Type-S Genome. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== Within Secret Area 1, you'll find a hole in the southernmost wall. Switch to Grizzly form, and press the X button to enter Rolling Bear. Press the X button once again to jump while in Rolling Bear. Jump into the hole this way, and roll down the tunnel. You'll find a small room filled with Berserkers and a xTX4 (Kauz) Unique enemy. This Unique is immune to physical attacks, so switch to Wendigo form and use the Blizzard on him once. He'll drop like a dead sack of fish. SECRET AREA 3 =============================================================================== Firstly, you'll find the MB1013m (Wild Boar) Enemy Data atop the tree before getting to this area, so be sure to grab it. Past the swampy area where all the Giant Toads are, you'll find a hill leading up to a small pond. Change to Minotaur form and use the Become Steel move. You'll become heavy enough to sink through the pond, and you'll find three Giant Toad Gate Keepers who give you 2 Genome Points a piece. You'll also have to use the Wendigo to lift the boulder to get out of this room. SECRET AREA 4 =============================================================================== When you get to the Save Point near the lake in this area, you can fly over it as the Garuda to find three Raven Gate Keepers who give you 1 Genome Point a piece. SECRET AREA 5 =============================================================================== After exiting the Sasquatch's lair, you'll enter an area that has a waterfall and a lake that leads back to AREA 3. Flying to the top of the waterfall will reveal an Enemy Data. This one can be hard to get, as you cannot really see your character when you fly into the waterfall. If you get lost, exit the waterfall, then enter again and keep aiming at the Enemy Data, and eventually you'll get it. You'll receive theMB1013m (Wild Boar) Enemy Data. -------------------------------------------------- -- Area 5 - Residential Area -- -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- - 1 . Use Minotaur's Fire Breath to ignite the leaking fuel. SECRET AREA 1 =============================================================================== At the start of the level, head to your left (east on the map), and you'll find what looks like a well of some sort. It's covered up with tin roof material, which you can dislodge by using the Garuda's Tornado attack. Down there, you'll find the TX4g (Yalafath) Unique enemy, who is surrounded by a purple poison cloud. Attacking him will result in you getting hurt as well. What's the best solution? I've found that simply pelting him with Feather Darts works wonders. You don't get hit, and he just keeps getting knocked down. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== At the water treatment pool, you'll find a sign that reads, "Danger, High Voltage". You can't throw the switch, so you'll have to change to Dragon form and use the Arc Lightning attack to give it power. Simply wait around until your Rage meter fills, and then press the Triangle button to activate it. The dam will open, giving you access with the Merman. In the following room, you'll find three Alligator Fish Gate Keepers below the water that will give you 1 Genome Point a piece. If you exit and fly with the Garuda through the giant opening in the wall, you'll also find the MB1032r (Alligator Fish) Enemy Data in the corner above the water. SECRET AREA 3 =============================================================================== Near the entrance to Area 6, you'll find an 18-wheeler that is leaking fuel. Use the Minotaur's Fire Breath attack to ignite the gas and blow up the vehicle. In the room behind the wreckage, you'll encounter the TX4/Ag (Dian Cecht) Unique enemy. He appears to be emitting a frost cloud, so use the Wendigo and keep tapping the X button to pick him up and slam him down. Do not use your Blizzard, as the cold barely works on him. Just keep slamming him, and he'll be out with about 22 seconds to spare. Obviously though, the best method to destroy him is to use the Minotaur's Fire Breath attack, but that's if you can catch the little guy with it. He likes to run around a lot. Either way, you get a handy Type-S Genome for your troubles. -------------------------------------------------- -- AREA 6 - Shopping Mall -- -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- - 1 . Use the Dragon's Arc Lightning to energize it, and the light in the elevator will come on. Press the Square button to use the elevator, and it will bring you down to a store-room, where you'll discover the TX4bI (Narcissus) Unique enemy. He utilizes electricity as his defense, and he is weak against physical attacks. You can easily defeat him using the Wendigo's Slam and Blizzard attacks. You are then rewarded with a Type-S Genome. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== The third floor has a balcony that is only accessible with the Garuda. Fly over to it, and you'll be greeted by two Ogre Gate Keepers who give you 1 Genome Point a piece. You'll also find the MB1027a (Giant Toad) Enemy Data on a ledge in this room. SECRET AREA 3 =============================================================================== This area is a bit weird because you actually have to get to it by first going to Area 7. On the rooftop of Area 6's Shopping Mall building, you'll see a set of double doors with cracks in it, showing a room on the other side. You may ram this door down with the Minotaur's Bull Rush. At the bottom of the stairwell, you'll discover the MB1046b (Rooster) Enemy Data, as well as the TX4/Cu (Reshef) Unique enemy. As a reward, you'll get a Type-N Genome. -------------------------------------------------- -- AREA 9 - Mines -- -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- - 1 . Secret Area Locations ---------------------------------------------- 1.) After riding elevator down, take the eastern path and use the Minotaur's Fire Breath to blow up the dynamite. 2.) Near Save Point. Use the Dragon's Lightning bolt to energize the conveyor belt, and the boulder will dislodge. SECRET AREA 1 =============================================================================== When you get to the elevator, press the Square button to ride it down to the lower levels of the mine. Take the eastern path when you get to it, and you'll find a blockade with a cart of dynamite sitting in front of it. Use the Minotaur's Fire Breath attack to ignite the dynamite and clear a path. You'll discover two Mole Gate Keepers who give you 2 Genome Points a piece. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== There is a path leading east just before you get to the Save Point. The conveyer belt there has no power, so just toss a Lightning Bolt at it with the Dragon and it will activate, dislodging the bolder. Run on the conveyer belt with the Werewolf, making sure to dodge the oncoming boulders, and you'll come to a room where several Ogres are holding boulders over their heads and will try to throw them at you when you approach. The TX4/Fe (Valkyrie) Unique enemy will appear as well. Use the typical Wendigo slam to kill him and you'll get the Type-N Genome. -------------------------------------------------- -- AREA 10 - Limestone Cave -- -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- - 1 . Waterfall room, use Minotaur's Fire Breath to burn up the vegetation blocking the entrance. SECRET AREA 1 =============================================================================== After flying up from the room with all the Bats, you'll come to a path where large boulders are rolling at you, one after another. Use the Minotaur's Steel Form to break through the boulders, and then turn up the path that they are coming from. At the end of the path, you'll have to fly up with the Garuda, and you'll be bombarded by two Ogres in the opening of the next room. After killing them, you'll have a few more who will chuck boulders at you. You'll then have to dispatch of the TX4/Au (Angus) Unique enemy. He's glowing yellow. You can use the Wendigo's slam attack, but this Unique is really weak against fire, so you're best suited using the Minotaur's Fire Breath attack. You'll be rewarded with a Type-S Genome. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== Right after Secret Area 1, you'll fall down into a small room where a waterfall is splashing at the bottom. In that room, you'll find a wall covered with vegetation to the west. Use the Minotaur's Fire Breath attack to burn it up, and you'll find a lake in the next room. In the pond, you'll find two Dunkleosteus Gate Keepers who'll give you 2 Genome Points a piece. -------------------------------------------------- -- AREA 11 - Nuclear Power Plant -- -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- - 1 . SECRET AREA 1 =============================================================================== South of the starting point, you'll come upon a wall with a crack in it. Use the Minotaur's Bull Rush from the corner of the path to build up enough speed to break through the wall. You'll come upon two Ogre Gate Keepers who'll give you 2 Genome Points a piece. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== On the long horizontal path, you'll come to a gate torn open that is blocked by purple electricity. You can pass safely through this as the Dragon. On the other side, you'll find 3 Ogre Gate Keepers who each give you 2 Genome Points a piece. SECRET AREA 3 =============================================================================== Shoot the cracked wall in the factory pool with the Merman's Depth Charge. You'll find the TX4vi (IO) Unique enemy, and he'll give you a Type-N Genome. -------------------------------------------------- -- Area 12 - Nuclear Power Plant, Interior -- -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- - 1 . Behind the pipes at the opposite end of the room is an opening labeled "area-06". 2.) End of level, after Save Point. Use Grizzly's Rolling Bear to jump into the small hole. SECRET AREA 1 =============================================================================== When you get to the area where an arrow is pointing up telling you to go to "area-5", turn around and go back to the room with the water. Behind the pipes at the opposite end of the room is an opening labeled "area-06". Enter this room to find a black goat??? Gate Keeper, who will give you 3 Genome Points. SECRET AREA 2 =============================================================================== At the end of the level, past the Save Point, you'll see a bunch of boxes in the corner of the room covering up a tiny hole in the wall. This hole can be tricky to get into, but you must roll into Rolling Bear as the Grizzly, and jump into it using the X button. It helps if you are rolling before you jump. At the other end, you'll come to a room where you find the LC353t (Dragon) Beast Data. Continuing on, you'll also come upon the TX4pi (Freya) Unique enemy. Do not approach it right away. If you do, he'll instantly dive into the ground, blowing your chance to defeat him. Instead, stay where you are as soon as he appears, then switch to Dragon form. Hover in the air a bit so your Lightning Bolts will reach him no matter where he is, then just charge up the blasts and hit him with everything you have. He'll drop like lead, and he won't be able to escape since you won't be anywhere near him. You'll get a Type-N Genome as a reward. =============================================================================== === VI. B O N U S F E A T U R E S === =============================================================================== --------------------- - Elevator of Doom - --------------------- The Elevator of Doom is unlocked upon completion of the game at any difficulty. There are eight different blocks total, and each block is generally composed of eight floors that the elevator stops on. Each floor contains a load of enemies you must kill in order to move to the next floor. The first six blocks require you to beat it with a specific beast, while the last two will let you play as any beast you desire. Beating the first four blocks opens a link to the next two. Beating those two opens a link to the multi-beast block, and if you beat that one, you get to play the final block. This block has more than eight floors, and contains a boss on the final floor. I will list the strategy for beating this boss below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS - Belphegor ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- -- Description -- --------------------- A very large snail-looking creature. He has but one attack. The trick is figuring out just how to beat this thing. --------------------- -- Attacks -- --------------------- Rolls around the platform while in a ball, trying to run into you. --------------------- -- Strategy -- --------------------- The first thing to do is attack Belphegor with the Minotaur until it gets mad and starts rolling around the platform. When it tries to roll into you, use the Iron Guard to knock it unconscious for a minute. Switch to Wendigo form, pick it up and carry it over to the water. Toss it in, and then switch to Merman form and pelt it with as many Bubble Bombs as you can before it climbs back out of the water and onto the platform again. Rinse, repeat, and he'll be dead before you know it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After beating this boss, you will have obtained the Grizzly Genome Chip! The next thing you should do is play this block again after you obtain the U.W.H. for the ??? Unique Enemy Data. This Unique enemy is very hard to attack with the other beast forms, and the U.W.H. has the distinct advantage of an instant kill if you can pull off his combo. The Belphegor will always try to run away into the water if you attack it any other way, so as soon as you reach the room, quickly change to U.W.H. form, run over to him and execute the combo. He'll die right away if you can finish it. --------------------- - Extra Beast Forms - --------------------- Grizzly --------------------- You can unlock the Grizzly beast form by completing the Elevator of Doom once. The Grizzly is a cool beast form from the original game, and has a 20-hit attack combo! Another great feature is that his Petrification Gas attack will pretty much instantly kill any Unique enemy you use it on. U.W.H. --------------------- You can unlock the U.W.H. (Unidentified Weightless Human) by completing the Boss Time Attack mode. You must beat the record times for each boss for it to count. The U.W.H. cannot be "upgraded" in any way. He comes with his attack combo already maxed out. Speaking of his attack combo, if you can pull it off, it will perform an instant kill on every enemy you try it on. Weretiger -------------------- You can unlock the Weretiger (Brad's beast form) by collecting all Enemy, Beast, Boss and Unique data in the game. The Weretiger is an excellent form for fighting with. Like the U.W.H., the Weretiger starts with all his attacks, Learning Genome, and both Type-S and Type-N Genomes. He's a pretty powerful beast, and he has strong attacks. Unfortunately, once you obtain him, there's nothing left to do with him except beat up the enemies in the levels or in the Elevator of Doom. I wish they would have allowed you to start a new game with all the beast forms you've already obtained, but they do not. --------------------- - Gallery - --------------------- Each cutscene can be viewed here once you've seen them in the Story Mode. For those of you who only own the Japanese version, here's the translated list of descriptions for you. 1.) A military helicopter flying above Foret Town is destroyed by a black, winged beast. The only survivor lost his memory. 2.) While examining mysterious documents, the amnesiac is attacked by grotesque creatures, awakening strange powers within him. 3.) The WEREWOLF is paralyzed with pain, but a mysterious woman comes to his aid, leaving behind nothing but cryptic words. 4.) As he transforms into the MERMAN, he remembers that he came to investigate the U.S.G.R. research facility in Foret Town. 5.) Transforming into the WENDIGO awakens yet another memory: that he is a Genome Cyborg, created by one Dr. Eric Jobs. 6.) Retrieving the GARUDA Genome Chip from the creatures that attacked the helicopter triggers memories of the Genome Mist. 7.) As the hero flies above the rooftops as the GARUDA, a mysterious man appears, examining the slain black beast. 8.) They mystery woman speaks of a "PROJECT ALTERED BEAST." She also reveals the name of the man behind the tragedy. 9.) As he changes into the MINOTAUR, he recalls the day Brad left the facility, and how he got the scar on his chest. 10.) He returns to the place where he met Ana, and finds a file from Dr. Jobs labeled "Ultimate Genome: LC353t - DRAGON." 11.) He heads to the power plant, where the DRAGON Chip is stored. There, Brad awaits to confront the hero one last time. 12.) Despite the strength of the WERETIGER, Brad is defeated. He reveals that it was, in fact, Ana that unleashed the mist. 13.) Saved from near death after being wounded, he was revived as the third Genome Cyborg. Brad, Anastasia, and himself.. 14.) Ana awaits the hero, so she could absorb him and the power of the DRAGON, and show Dr. Jobs her true power. 15.) Moments from victory, Ana is attacked by the WERETIGER. Brad manages to wound Ana, but is mortally wounded himself. 16.) She wanted everything, but in the end, lost it all. The hero is left standing alone, gazing upon the bodies of the fallen. 17.) Having regained his memory, the hero sets out. He has sworn to never lock back...for he must keep moving forward. =============================================================================== === IX.
