Credits ---------------------------------------------------------- [SEC5] ============================================================================= - 1. INTRODUCTION - [SEC1] ============================================================================= Welcome to my attempt to consolidate common knowledge about battle trophies into one document. The major different from the previous version by Edward Chang is that this document pertains to the US version of the game. While I am the one to author this FAQ, most of the credit (as you will see) should be given to gamefaq.com forum regulars and other FAQ writers. The goal of this document is not to exhaustively list all the methods to obtain a battle trophy, but outline the easiest way of doing it even if it is deemed cheesy. 1.1 – What are battle trophies? [INTRO1] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Battle Trophies (BTs) can be thought of 300 different objectives for you to complete while playing Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (SO3). Battle Trophies are stored in a separate save file so multiple playthroughs of the game will all contribute to the same file. There are two requirements if you wish to collect BTs; firstly, you must be playing at a difficulty level above Earth (Galaxy+) and secondly, when you first start the game and enter the battle simulator, you need to create a battle trophy file. On subsequent playthroughs be sure to load the BT file into your new game. 1.1 – Why should I collect battle trophies? [INTRO2] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The way I see it, there are two reasons to collect battle trophies. Firstly, it represents a challenge to the gamer and can be considered a requisite if you wish to claim that you truly ‘beat’ the game. Secondly, it unlocks cool features within the game that may be enticing. You unlock the following features as you obtain certain battle trophy completion milestones: 45 Battle Trophies (15%): Unlocks second set of outfits 75 Battle Trophies (25%): Unlocks Universe difficulty mode 120 Battle Trophies (40%): Unlocks third set of outfits 165 Battle Trophies (55%): Unlocks the Music Test 195 Battle Trophies (65%): Unlocks 4D difficulty mode 240 Battle Trophies (80%): Unlocks the fourth set of outfits 285 Battle Trophies (95%): Unlocks Full Active Mode To further explain the bonuses. The outfits essentially allow your characters to wear different outfits when fighting in battle. Universe and 4D are difficulty modes above Galaxy that should provide a significant challenge to players. The music test is just a menu that lets you listen to the various music scores in the game. Lastly, Full Active Mode (FAM) allows you to execute battle skills anywhere on the field instead of having your character run to the predetermined optimal range before attacking. ============================================================================= - 2. BATTLE TROPHIES - [SEC2] ============================================================================= Here I will list all the battle trophies available in the game. Beside each entry I have included a search code that will let you jump to pertinent spot in the next section if you require help on a certain section. Just highlight the search code, copy the text (Control-C or Edit->Copy) then go to find (Control-F or Edit->Find), copy the text into the search box (Control-V or Edit->Paste) and click “Find Next.” 1. 100 Battles .................................................... BATTLE TROPHY STRATEGIES - [SEC3] ============================================================================= This section outlines strategies for obtaining each of the battle trophies. Because many of the trophies are only variances of each other, they have been condensed into categories. I have split them up into three main groups. General trophies pertain to objectives to achieve outside of the battle, or pertain to the battle as a whole. In-battle trophies include fights that require you to do various things within the fight. Lastly, boss trophies are those that obviously have to do with performing certain actions on bosses. Within each of the three major sections, I have further split the battle trophies into sub-groupings into logical groups to accomplish sets of objectives at once to save you time and minimize the need to move back and forth inside this document. As mentioned previously, you can reference certain sections by using search codes in section 2 or the table of contents. Within each sub-grouping, each section follows the following structure: #.#.# Trophy Sub-Grouping Name [search key] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : First Trophy (#1), Trophy Eighty-Six (#86) Difficulty : Very Easy Time Window : Anytime Credit : If I read about this (before I figured it out), name goes here Boss Stats : The HP/MP of the enemy on Galaxy Difficulty, multiply the value by 1.5 for Universe and 1.8 for 4D. It is assumed you kill the bosses on Galaxy because it is the easiest. Rec Level : Suggested level for the fight for Galaxy difficulty without major Item Creation. This is highly variable depending on your skill and your equipment. Description : This is a test description for a test entry. Because of the subjective nature of difficulty and organizing the trophies, there is bound to be some contention. Please do NOT email me to inform me that x BT belongs in x category or that x BT is actually super easy to get. However, if you have a good tip or an easier way to earn a certain battle trophy, by all means let me know and I will adjust the difficulty accordingly. 3.1.1 Total Battles [BT3101] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : 100 Battles (#001) 1,000 Battles (#002) 5,000 Battles (#003) 10,000 Battles (#004) 50,000 Battles (#005) Difficulty : Very Hard Time Window : Anytime (Carries across saves) Credit : EChang The objective here is easy to understand, you must participate in x number of battles. You do not need to win the battles, you can escape from them if you want and the counter will still go up. If you go into the menu screen, you will see your current count of battles in the lower right hand corner. This count persists from game to game so make sure you import your old save file if you start over again. The lower counts are easy to obtain since in your first game you are likely to have upwards of 2000 battles. The difficulty is obtaining the higher battle counts since it would take 25 typical games at 2000 each to reach 50000 battles. Also keep in mind that on higher difficulties you are likely to fight much fewer battles in general because your average enemy is so annoying that you will run from the majority of fights and just mass level in the easy spots. To put things into perspective, if you do non-stop easy battles (1 hit kill on single enemy fights) you can do approximately 100 every 30 minutes. If you use this ratio, that’s 250 hours of pure battles. That’s about ten and a half days of non-stop 24 hour single enemy bashing. In conclusion, this is extremely boring, extremely time consuming and extremely stupid. Since you only require 285 battle trophies to unlock the highest bonus, I would recommend that you skip some of these BTs entirely. If you are bent on obtaining these there are a couple ways easier ways. The first step is to buy a turbo controller. After that, go to the Battle Arena in Gemity and stand in front of the lady. Activate (rubber band/tape/etc) the X key and leave your PS2 on for about couple weeks then come back to view your shiny BTs. Keep in mind that this will essentially pit Fayt solo against Rank D opponents repeatedly so make sure you can actually win the battles. For example, make sure you aren’t using a weapon that does fire damage since you won’t be able to defeat the first set of enemies. It doesn’t really matter if you lose (die) in the Arena because all that happens is that you enter the next battle with 1 HP, however it is advisable to level/equip Fayt to a point where he can effortlessly win all the fights to reduce overall time required. Remember to come back and save every day or so to insure that power outages/your stupid brother kicking your ps2/etc doesn’t interrupt the process by that much. Alternatively, the superior solution is just to buy a gameshark (or similar device) and just enter in a code to boost your battle counter to above 50,000. In the end both methods require that you manipulate the game externally through unintended means; save yourself some time and your ps2 a lot of wear and tear by going the code route. For Code Breaker v7.0+ (courtesy of www.cmgsccc.com) Enable Code: B4336FA9 4DFEFB79 FADF2C20 74CF04CA 4D1EF1B4 9247BA0D 66C554C6 190CADB7 9098019E 9130015B BA86ECD2 236F3111 8262C3F6 5F3E92A6 B5BCC046 3260DA78 40AB7663 0043E118 Max Battles Code: 105A0C8D AB626957 1684108C 70BE1FB8 DCE080C6 EA51B182 AADF0900 227E0366 DF6ABEF8 9061C9C8 F7E8A72E 7825DD82 F928979B 9FD76127 8804358F 35CF0687 84EB9710 F842E0EF FFC80DCF 43755C0F 3.1.2 Enemy Types [BT3102] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Enemies of 100 Types (#017) Defeat Enemies of 200 Types (#018) Defeat Enemies of 300 Types (#019) Defeat Enemies of 400 Types (#020) Defeat Enemies of 420 Types (#021) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Some enemies are time sensitive (Carries across saves) Every enemy type that you encounter and kill during the game adds to this counter. Given that there are approximately 460 enemies in total in the game these trophies are not unreasonable. To obtain these BTs, just be very diligent in killing at least one of each enemy in every area that you enter. Keep in mind that when you revisit an area, it will often be repopulated with upgraded versions of the old enemies or new ones entirely. If you do not complete all of these trophies in a single playthrough you can trigger additional enemy types by actions that you take in future games. The optional characters you do not take will be killable in the post-game Urssa Lave Temple. Also, whoever you are partnered with in the game ending will be killable in the Lava Temple as well. Refer to the various affection/private action FAQs to control these aspects if you are so inclined. You can get all these BTs in a single playthrough so manipulation is not necessary if you don’t want to go through the trouble. 3.1.3 Battle Chains [BT3103] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Chain of 3 (#022) Chain of 10 (#023) Chain of 30 (#024) Chain of 60 (#025) Chain of 100 (#026) Chain of 250 (#027) Chain of 500 (#028) Win With No Damage (#075) Defeat Enemy with a Single Blow (#029) Finish Battle in Under 30 Seconds (#038) Finish Battle in Under 20 Seconds (#039) Finish Battle in Under 10 Seconds (#040) 10 Killing Blows (#055) 100 Killing Blows (#056) 500 Killing Blows (#057) 1,000 Killing Blows (#058) Win Alone (#212) Win 10 Consecutive Times Taking No Damage (#247) Win 50 Consecutive Times Taking No Damage (#248) Win 100 Consecutive Times Taking No Damage (#249) 50 Consecutive Battles Alone (#250) 100 Consecutive Battles Alone (#251) 500 Consecutive Battles Alone (#252) 10 Consecutive Killing Blows (#255) 50 Consecutive Killing Blows (#256) 10 Consecutive Blows (#269) 30 Consecutive Blows (#270) 50 Consecutive Blows (#271) Difficulty : Easy Time Window : Anytime (Recommended after Gemity) A whole lot of battle trophies can be gained just from winning a lot of battles in a row. While all these can be done separately, it makes much more sense doing them together. The primary objective we are trying to accomplish are the ‘Chain of x’ series which means you have to maintain a battle bonus for that many fights in a row. First go to an advanced area and fight enemies that can actually fill your battle gauge; once it is full, leave the area and go back to the Coffir Ruins on Vanguard III. Go two screens south (below) Norton’s Hideout and you should see a Nobleman running around. If you enter the battle against him, you will always fight against one enemy that is incapable of ever attacking you. After you defeat the nobleman go up to reset the spawn, go back down and kill him, repeat the process 500 times. If you kill off your other two party members you will be able to obtain the ‘x consecutive battles alone’ trophies. The other BTs you’ll get automatically since you will be the only one fighting and will kill everything in one hit. There is a slim chance you will not get the 1000 killing blows BT, but chances are excellent is that you will accumulate more than 500 other kills in all your other playthroughs combined. As some final notes, you may try to attempt this on other enemies, but even if you get hit for 0 damage, it can still break your chain. To do 500 battles takes roughly two and a half hours; you must do this without resetting your ps2 because that will stop the chain. 3.1.4 Total Enemies [BT3104] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat 300 Enemies (#032) Defeat 500 Enemies (#033) Defeat 1,000 Enemies (#034) Defeat 5,000 Enemies (#035) Defeat 10,000 Enemies (#036) Defeat 50,000 Enemies (#037) Difficulty : Hard Time Window : Anytime (Carries across saves) Like the total battles BTs, the first couple of these series are very easy to get and will come automatically. However, the defeat 50,000 enemies one is particularly a pain to get because as an estimation, your average battle is against only 2 enemies. That translates into roughly 4000 or so kills per game (optimistically), so about a dozen games by normal standards, which is a lot. I would recommend skipping doing the 50,000 enemies BT. If you insist on reaching the higher enemy kill numbers, I suggest that you hold off until your final playthrough then go to Granah Hills (South of Kirlsa) and just fight the knights (Black Brigade Soldiers) or mushrooms (Young/Elder Shrieker) there. They usually show up in groups 4 or larger making it relatively quick. It is recommended that you use Aerial Assault with Cliff or Mirage and press X/O again while you are in the air to do a wide area attack version to quickly end battles. Other moves such as Magnetic Field can also be used, but I found Aerial Assault to be the quickest. If you are cheating with an external device (turbo controller/game shark), use the same means as you used to reach total battles to get these BTs. 3.1.5 Escaping [BT3105] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Escape 20 Times (#041) Escape 100 Times (#042) 31 consecutive escapes (#272) Difficulty : Very Easy Time Window : Anytime (Carries across saves) You are likely to get these automatically, especially if you play on the higher difficulty levels. If you don’t get the consecutive escape one through normal play just run 31 times in a row, this doesn’t really take any skill. 3.1.6 Dying [BT3106] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Incapacitated 20 Times (#043) Incapacitated 100 Times (#044) Difficulty : Effortless Time Window : Anytime (Carries across saves) These BTs just require that your entire party be wiped out (game over screen). It may be hard to fathom dying so many times playing on Earth/Galaxy level, but I assure you that you will likely die well in excess of 100 times before you beat Universe/4D. If you want to die fast it is pretty easy. Kill off two of your party members and putting in a super weak third and fight anything near a save point. 3.1.7 Button Presses [BT3107] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : 10,000 button Presses (#052) 100,000 button Presses (#053) 1,000,000 button Presses (#054) Difficulty : Hard Time Window : Anytime (Carries across saves) Credit : printf To quote printf: “I can trigger the button press BTs by pressing the following buttons on a standard PS2 Dual Shock: -triangle, square, x, and circle buttons -directional buttons on the d-pad -start and select buttons -the four shoulder buttons (L1/2, R1/2) -the left analog stick (by moving it away from the neutral position; I'm not sure whether L3 triggers them) -R3 (moving the right analog stick around without pushing it down won't trigger the BTs) The "Analog" button doesn't trigger these BTs. Also, it seems that holding a button down won't trigger several presses (but with my current testing setup, I could only test this by holding down a button before triggering a battle and keeping it held as the battle started). I can't determine whether button presses count while your menu is open (that would require at least two button presses). Also, button presses count while the battle menu is open. It doesn't matter whether the cursor goes anywhere. For instance, you can keep mashing down on the d-pad when you're at the bottom of the items list and the presses will still count. You can open the main battle menu and press left or right, even though the main menu doesn't scroll horizontally. Presses will count even before you gain control of your characters (that is, while the camera is still focused on the enemy at the very beginning of a battle).” As some additional information, you will probably get the 10,000 presses BT automatically through normal play. 100,000 will most likely come in your second or third playthrough and the 1,000,000 you’ll need to work for. Judging from the information above, you can just enter a battle and move around randomly to rack up the presses. If you have a turbo controller this should be relatively effortless. 3.1.8 Leveling [BT3108] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Reach level 10 (#059) Reach level 77 (#060) Reach level 120 (#061) Reach level 255 (#062) Level up 5 consecutive Times (#257) Level up 10 Consecutive Times (#258) Level up 20 Consecutive Times (#259) Difficulty : Easy Time Window : Anytime Very straightforward BTs, most of which will come naturally. To level up to lv255 in the most efficient manner, I suggest creating/buying five Ring of Erudition, refining them then synthesizing them to a laser weapon. This will boost the XP gained of your entire party by 100% (which is also the XP bonus cap). Next go to floors 172-181 in the Sphere (I prefer 176 personally) and find the spiders and bugs. Work up a triple EXP combo and you’ll be getting around 400k EXP per fight. All the enemies on these levels are weak to freeze shattering so battles will be quick. To be more specific, use one character to freeze the enemy (freezing factor attached to your weapon/ice magic) then use another to insta-kill it afterwards. If you aren’t freeze killing, MP kills are advisable. If you get bored of killing the bugs, the fishes also give good XP but are more dangerous. The snakes and the troll guys on floors 182-190 are also very easy but give slightly less XP than the bugs. I’v also lumped the consecutive level up BTs into this category as well because preparation is essentially the same. In a higher level battle, just drag in one of your lower level characters and watch them gain 20+ levels in one fight. If you need an extra boost, consider killing one or both of your other characters so the XP is split between less people. 3.1.9 Battle Hours [BT3109] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Total of 5 hours in Battle (#181) Total of 50 hours in Battle (#182) Total of 100 hours in Battle (#183) Fight Over 60 Minutes (#296) Fight Over 120 Minutes (#297) Don't Get Hit for one Minute (#298) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Anytime (Carries across saves) These BTs apply to time spent fighting, so although the numbers are not huge, they are fairly difficult to attain without gaming the system. You may reach the 5 hour BT normally but for the other two, you will most likely have to set your characters to manual, then just leave your ps2 on while you sleep or something. A good enemy to fight is the noblemen on Vanguard III since they will just waltz around doing nothing. To reach these limits without gaming the system, you can just fight the super bosses repeatedly. On higher difficulties they are pretty tough and will take you awhile to kill them each time providing some amusement. Fighting anything for 100 hours will bore you to tears though, so it is not entirely recommended. 3.1.10 Battle Types [BT3110] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Rear attacked 5 consecutive Times (#265) Surrounded 5 consecutive Times (#266) Ambushed 5 consecutive Times (#267) Difficulty : Easy Time Window : Anytime Credit : Echang As mentioned in EChang’s FAQ, these BTs are easy to get because you can save and reload between fights. It is simple to enter a fight and reload if it is not the desired battle type what you want. Just save and reload until you have until you have five in a row of each. As a note, it seems as though some enemies are incapable of ambush and/or surround so you may have to use different enemy types. Some good spots include lv1 Sphere, Ruins of Barr, Urssa Lava Caves, and Duggas Forest. 3.2.1 Simultaneous Kills [BT3201] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Simultaneously defeat 2 Enemies (#006) Simultaneously defeat 3 Enemies (#007) Simultaneously defeat 4 Enemies (#008) Difficulty : Easy Time Window : Anytime The enemies must be killed with the same attack all at the same time for these BTs to trigger. You are likely to get most of these during normal gameplay, but if you don’t an easy way is to go to Granah Hills and get into a fight with the Black Brigade Soldiers. Move all your characters into a corner and let them surround you, then blast them all a wide area strike such as Magnetic Field or Aerial Assault (wide version). If you are having trouble using battle skills you can also use a bomb to achieve this. They have very low MP so pretty much any MP bomb will do the job; just keep on trying to use a bomb and cancel out of it is they are not all in the blast zone. You can refine Puffy’s upper level bombs (ie, Durian R4) to expand the range to make it even easier if you need. 3.2.2 Combo Hits [BT3202] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : 10 Hits (#009) 30 Hits (#010) 50 Hits (#011) 100 Hits (#012) 150 Hits (#013) 200 Hits (#014) 250 Hits (#015) 300 Hits (#016) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Anytime Credit : Bijutsu Sensei, xoxJayoxo, EChang These BTs are referring to the hits that you deal during a battle. The counter will accumulate in the right side of the screen as long as you do not stop attacking. The first couple of these BTs you will get naturally, the higher ones you will probably need to work towards. For all the methods described, I would suggest using a Super Bottle on a Red Dragon (Sphere 207) so you have a nice enemy to beat down on. Half of the challenge is finding something that will survive 300 hits! It helps to unequip all your weapons before the battle and turn on Berserk to maximize your chains. Max Fury as a support skill is also helpful, but not required. Weapons/attacks dealing Earth damage will be absorbed and not count towards the combo counter. My preferred method is to set all three characters to manual then start chaining Fists of Fury with Cliff. You should be able to chain up to 300% with each chain causing around 100 hits. Between chains use anyone else to keep the combo going while he regains fury, some good candidates are Explosion, Thunder Flare, x Slash of Fury, Gravity Bullet, Aura Wall, etc. You can conceivably keep this going forever especially if you have your third character use a strong Earth damage dealing weapon to heal the dragon as you beat it up. Another method is to remove all battle skills from your characters, then telling them all to ‘attack with all your might.’ The barrage of attacks will probably net you your 300 combo without too much trouble. Slow attacking characters who do not have attacks that hit multiple times such as Nel should be avoided if possible. Lastly, you can spam magic skills like Explosion or Thunder Flare with 3 magic users. Adray and Sophia are preferable since you can chain them directly through battle skill buttons. 3.2.3 Exact Damage Kills [BT3203] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat with Exact Damage (#030) Defeat with Exact Damage with a Single Blow (#031) Difficulty : Easy Time Window : Anytime Credit : EChang The most simple way to get these BTs is to use a bomb on an enemy with that exact amount of MP. Create a Stun Bomb MP and use it on one of the Security Guards (Security Force Member) on Sphere lv1. On Galaxy difficulty, they have 600 MP and will die instantly. 3.2.4 Winning while Paralyzed [BT3204] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Win by paralyzing all (#045) Difficulty : Easy Time Window : Anytime Credit : Zach Keene This strategy requires the Rabbit Ears Chalice obtained through Roger’s Ancient Book sidequest. First save Roger in Duggas Forest (before killing Mudman) then talk to him in Suferio afterwards and accept the quest. Then when you Urssa Lava Caves search the left torch infront of the massive bunny statue (where you get the key) to get the Chalice. From that point forward, just fight any enemy that can paralyze you (dragons in Barr Mountains or Chimera in Mosel Desert) until someone gets paralyzed. Quickly kill the enemy then replace the character with another until you have three characters paralyzed. Go back to Vanguard III and equip the Rabbit Ears Chalice. Enter in a battle with the blob in the forest and trigger the Chalice when it gets close. You trigger the chalice by entering in the code Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, X, O. Note the chalice will deal damage equal to 1/2 of your HP. The game does not remember how long you have been paralyzed between battles, so don’t worry that you don’t have enough ‘paralyzed time’ left for your character(s). That is, you’ll start a new battle with your character having to suffer through the entire duration even if they have been in many battles previous to it under its effect. 3.2.5 Winning while Frozen [BT3205] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Win by freezing all (#046) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Anytime Credit : beebo This is a fairly tricky one because it requires that your entire party be frozen when you kill the enemy. The method suggested by beebo on the forums works great even and operates as follows. First you want to get a Tri-Emblem so you don’t get shatter killed, secondly you need powerful weapons to deal significant damage. It helps to have a weapon with lots of +30% Atk/Def factors to minimize the damage that is dealt to you as well, though you cannot be invincible or you won’t be frozen. After that, you want to head to the battle arena in Gemity and enter in the Solo Rank S battle and win the first four fights until you get to the Tyrant Render. Here to goal is to use a delayed attack, then get frozen and have your attack finish off the enemy. Practice dodging the enemy a bit to make sure you can get frozen without dying. When you are ready, start attacking until the render has enough damage to suck up a couple hits, but not your entire attack. Wait for him to do Blizzard Lasso, use your attack, then run in to get frozen while it dies. Blizzard Lasso is not guaranteed to freeze you, so it might take a couple of tries, but it has a reasonably high rate of success. If you are really having trouble, try to get him to use Blizzard Lasso near a wall then run into the area between the attack and the wall. That way he cannot throw you back and you’ll get repeatedly hit almost assuring that you will get frozen. In practice I used lv100 Roger with lv1 Bug Triad. With 9999 attack I lowered the render’s HP to around 30,000 then performed the tactic as mentioned above. If you don’t have Roger you can try using other delayed attacks such as Explosion or Gremlins. 3.2.6 Win by a Margin [BT3206] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Win by a margin of 5 HP (#047) Win by a margin of 4 HP (#048) Win by a margin of 3 HP (#049) Win by a margin of 2 HP (#050) Win by a margin of 1 HP (#051) 77,777 Hp Remaining (#236) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Anytime Credit : EChang Winning by a margin of x hp essentially means that your combined HP total of all of your characters must be that much at the end of a battle. As preparation you’ll want to be strong enough that nothing in normal section of Urssa Lava Caves can hurt you. Go to the lava caves and run around in the lava until your entire party has 1 HP left. Enter a battle and win it for the 3 HP BT. Kill off one character or switch in a dead one and win another battle for the 2 HP BT, and repeat that one more time for the 1 HP BT. For the 4 and 5 BT ones you’ll first need to go buy the Grab Bag from santa at the Maze of Tribulations Floor 3. Also make or buy some items that restore 20 HP such as Tears of Aphrodite and a couple MP bombs. Equip the Grab Bag on Fayt and keep on sleeping at an inn until you get a Demon’s Stone. Then go to the lava caves and run around in lava until you have 1 HP for all your characters. Next, feed one character a couple 20 HP items to boost it up a bit then go find some of the blazing skeletons (Fire Zombie) to fight. Your objective is to kill off all but 1 of the skeletons while the Demon’s Stone slowly drops your HP. When it is at 4, use an MP bomb to kill off the last skeleton. Repeat the same strategy for the 5 HP BT. You can also do the 1,2,3 HP BTs in a similar fashion, but you cannot use the run in lava until 1HP trick (in the previous paragraph) directly since the Demon’s Stone will kill you immediately once you start the battle. If you don’t want to use MP bombs that is okay too, just that every attack has a slight lag before it actually hits the enemy, so you will have to be mindful of that. The 77,777 HP BT works in much of the same way as the other ones. You will most likely need to equip/synthesize refined lunar talismans in order to boost your HP that high. After that point, drop your HP (either lava walking or by using battle skills or whatever else) near the HP range, wait for the Demon’s Stone to drop you to the exact value then use a MP bomb. 3.2.7 Guard Breaking [BT3207] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Guard broken 10 Times (#063) Guard broken 100 Times (#064) Guard broken 500 Times (#065) Guard broken 1,000 Times (#066) Difficulty : Effortless Time Window : Anytime These BTs are easy to get because you will naturally break the guard of many enemies just by playing. If you want to accelerate the process, just go fight more battles, particularly the super bosses (Lenneth, Freya) since their Fury charges pretty quick. 3.2.8 Getting Angered [BT3208] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Angered 10 Times (#067) Angered 100 Times (#068) Angered 500 Times (#069) Angered 1,000 Times (#070) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Anytime When one of your party members die, another (living) character has a chance of getting “angered.” You know someone got angry when they say some sort of line then their attack power is doubled for a short duration afterwards. You’ll rack up tons of these at the higher levels because the AI is quite horrible and gets killed virtually every battle, but even then you are unlikely to get 1000. The method I used was to synthesize three weapons with fire gems so they were fire elemental, then I went to the lava caves and fought the fire skeleton things with a lv100 Sophia and two other low level characters, I had fayt under lv10 and peppita at lv1. Disable all of Sophia’s symbology except for Restoration and remove all her battle skills/spells. Although not necessary, it is recommended that you have 1/2 casting time active, No Guard active, and some sort of MP regeneration. Ideally Sophia is high enough level so she takes 0 damage enabling you to turn off Healing, but she should not be too high in level because parry will still disrupt spell casting even if No Guard is set (stupid, I know). Set her to “concentrate on healing,” and set the other two to “attack with all your might.” It helps to turn off AAA for all your characters too (or use Regeneration for Sophia). Once the battle starts, control one of the low level characters and sit them somewhere in the middle of the fight. Sophia and whoever else will start attacking but deal no damage because they have fire weapons. Eventually they will start killing off your low level characters and Sophia will resurrect them. Go take a nap or something since this will take a couple hours for your characters to mass die. The process is faster if you do it manually since you can run your healer away and have the enemy focus attacks on your weak characters, but by definition, you have to be there to do the laborious task. 3.2.9 Maximum Damage [BT3209] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Maximum Damage of 1,000 (#071) Maximum Damage of 10,000 (#072) Maximum Damage of 50,000 (#073) Maximum Damage of 99,999 (#074) Difficulty : Effortless Time Window : Anytime Very easy set of BTs to get because it will come naturally if you do post game dungeons especially. To reach the damage thresholds earlier, simply cancel high damage single attack moves until it is at 250%+. Aerial Assault and Dimension Door are both excellent for this. If you require an additional boost, turn on berserk to cancel higher and get the 30% extra damage. Other options are to take a refined might table (+40% ATK), or get angered through death/factors (+100% ATK). If you are really desperate you can go as far as synthesizing an elemental factor on your weapon to further boost damage output (ie, synthesize ice vs fire enemies at the lava cave). 3.2.10 Cancel Bonuses [BT3210] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Cancel bonus 100 Times (#076) Cancel bonus 1000 Times (#077) Cancel bonus 3000 Times (#078) Difficulty : Effortless Time Window : Anytime You should automatically get these through natural gameplay unless you are the type who just spams normal attacks with Increase HP/MP damage. To obtain these BTs quickly, you can always synthesize a fire weapon then go to the lava caves, turn on berserk and cancel like crazy. Attacks that inherently have low Fury consumption are ideal here since you can cancel more times between resting; Fayt with Side Kick or Maria with Scatter Shot work pretty good. Using Fury reduction items like the Ring of Animosity will help a bit as well. For those confused about canceling, it’s essentially altering between weak (X) attacks and strong (O) attacks (battle skills). Use a weak attack, and once it animates, press and hold the O to cancel into a strong attack, then once that animates press and hold X to cancel back into a weak attack, etc. You can do this nonstop until you run out of fury. As a side note you can start with a weak (X) normal attack, then cancel into a weak (X) battle skill to start the chain is you want. Cancel chains must always start with an X attack of some sort. 3.2.11 Avoiding Fireballs [BT3211] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Avoid Fire Bolt (#224) Avoid Fire Bolt 10 Consecutive Times (#253) Avoid Fire Bolt 50 Consecutive Times (#254) Difficulty : Easy Time Window : Anytime Credit : Aya Brea These are pretty easy to get. Once you are strong enough to neutralize damage, go to the Urssa Lava Caves and fight against the big Lava Men. Run around and lure it so it is somewhat close to a wall then stand between the enemy and the wall. The way it works is that the two fireballs arch outwards and will only hit you if there is enough room for it to loop around; fortunately for you, the wall will absorb the fireballs well before then. I got hit plenty of times by his normal attacks and still got the BTs fine, so I don’t think it matters. Feel free to try to dodge his normal attacks if you want though. It also may speed up the process if you disable AAA for the fight. 3.2.12 Remain with Fury [BT3212] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Remain with Fury 3 consecutive Times (#229) Remain with Fury 5 consecutive Times (#230) Remain with Fury 10 Consecutive Times (#231) Remain with Fury 15 consecutive Times (#232) Difficulty : Hard Time Window : Anytime Credit : EChang When you are dealt a potentially fatal blow, your character has a chance of not dying remaining at 1 HP. When this happens, you’ll see “FURY” briefly flash on the screen by the given character. In order to get these BTs you will first need to synthesize an Orichalcum then refine it to a weapon. Make sure you let the bar run twice when you synthesize since you are after the ‘+50% remain on fury’ factor. There are a couple theories on how this works, but for whatever reason certain attacks seem to have a much higher chance of not killing you than others. One of these enemies as mentioned in EChang’s FAQ are the entire spider family and their ‘shoot needles out of their butt’ (Needle Launch) attack. While any spider will suffice, I used the ones in Sphere lv172-181 since the weaker versions were too dumb to do it consistently on Galaxy. Simply run around behind them so you don’t AAA the attack until you get your BTs. Another attack that seems to have good odds is Gabriel’s (Maze of Tribulations) Lightning Feather which he starts using once you damage him a bit. Your first encounter with him may have been tough, but by the time lv255 and mass defense comes into play, you’ll need to manually reduce your defense so he can hurt you. Again, you’ll need to run around so Lighting Feather does not get AAAed. It is advisable if you have someone strong enough to win the fight easily afterwards and it also helps to have another character that can resurrect since you’ll be dying a fair bit. Some people take forever to get these BTs, others get it by fluke in normal gameplay. Like lots of other battle trophies, persistence is the key. 3.2.13 HP Recovery [BT3213] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Recover 777 HP (#233) Recover 7,777 HP (#234) Recover 77,777 HP (#235) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Anytime Credit : printf, Zach Keene These have been some of the hardest BTs to get because they are largely perceived as random. Thankfully with the hard work of printf and Zach there are now reliable ways to get these. In general they require the manipulation of HP through the HP Skill option in Tactical Skills, and HP boosting items such as Lunar Talismans which can be bought or created. To obtain 777 HP: - Roger at initial level (810 HP). Use Lunar Talismans to raise his HP by 60%, yielding 1296 HP. Use a 60% healing item. - Maria at initial level (900 HP). Get her HP skill to level 4, yielding 1080 HP. Use Lunar Talismans to raise her HP by 20%, yielding 1296 HP. Use a 60% healing item. - Albel at initial level (1820 HP). Get his HP skill to level 2, yielding 1850 HP. Use Lunar Talismans to raise his HP by 40%, yielding 2590 HP. Use a 30% healing item. To obtain 7777 HP: - Level up Mirage once, and if she does not have 2900 HP exactly, reset and try again. Once she has 2900 HP, raise HP skill twice (2980 HP) then synthesize/equip 9 refined Lunar Talismans and one unrefined Lunar Talismans for 8642 HP. Use a 90% healing item. To obtain 77,777 HP: Okay, this one is a pain because there is a fairly high random factor associated with it. I wrote a webpage to aid in the calculation here because it is rather complex (http://aerius.atspace.com/so3-77777.html). The way this works is you go to the webpage and enter in the HP value of your character whenever he/she levels up, and it tells you if you can do any form of manipulation to heal for 77,777. Lots of the manipulation options require the use of Health Berries (Roger Ancient Book Sidequest – check the rock to the left of where Mudman was in Duggas Forest on Disc 1), Health+ Berries (Sphere lv107, 143, 159, 177, 204), or the Valkyrie Garb (Defeat Lenneth) so it probably isn’t feasible to serious attempt this BT until you have cleared Sphere. Therefore it is recommended that you play normally until you beat Lenneth, then level up other characters to try to hit the values you want. Do not raise their HP skill at all so you maximize the potential manipulations and raise their levels 1 per fight if possible. Given that a typical HP value will have 4000 or so possible unique permutations, it shouldn’t take too many levels for you to find one that lets you hit 77,777 HP. 3.2.14 Exact Damage Hits [BT3214] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : 111 Damage (#237) 222 Damage (#238) 333 Damage (#239) 555 Damage (#240) 777 Damage (#241) 5555 Damage (#242) 7777 Damage (#243) 77,777 Damage (#244) Difficulty : Hard Time Window : Anytime Credit : printf, EChang Most of these are fairly trivial because of the ingenious use of the Rabbit Ears Chalice by printf. The process here is much the same as the Winning by a Margin BTs. To get the Rabbit Ears Chalice, save Roger in Duggas Forest, then accept the Ancient Book sidequest in Suferio. When you go to the Urssa Lava Caves to kill Crosell, grab the Chalice from the left torch by the big bunny statue. Post-game, buy a Grab Bag from santa (Maze of Tribulations Floor 3), equip it then sleep continuously until you get a Demon’s Stone. Go to the Urssa Lava Caves and run in the lava until your HP is roughly twice the amount as the damage that you want to deal, then enter a battle. The Rabbit Ears Chalice deals half the damage as your remaining HP so you would be after, 222 HP, 444, 1554, 15554, etc. Start queuing up the explosion sequence (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, X, O) when you start getting close to your target value, then press the final button (O) once you have the exact value. You are allowed a pause between the X and the O, so don’t you can start a fair bit ahead if you wanted to. If this sounds troublesome I would not attempt this until your final playthrough since the odds are very good you will get them all by fluke (except for 77,777) by participating in normal battles. Obviously you cannot gain the 77,777 damage BT in the same manner, so another tactic is required. Here we want to use EChang’s Dragon strategy. Go to Sphere lv207 and take the path to the NE of the transporter to fight a Red Dragon. Run around until you AAA the dragon stunning it, then use a Super Bottle to petrify it. You might have to try multiple times until it works. From this point on, just keep on spamming short majors against the dragon in hopes of randomly dealing 77,777. You will have to be at 9999 ATK with Berserk On to be in the ballpark. Unfortunately, this could take 1 hit, or it could take 1,000,000 hits – just make sure 77,777 falls within the range of your attacks. A reasonable expectation is a couple hours at a minimum. Unlike the Japanese version, healing for 77,777 will not get the BT. Thus, the main problem here is getting the Red Dragon to stay alive long enough since even on 4D, 2 million HP gets depleted pretty quick at 75k every couple seconds. A similar strategy can be used in that you use your other two characters to deal Earth damage to the enemy so you heal it faster than you hurt it. You can accomplish this by synthesizing an Earth Gem or an Earth Discharge (book) to a weapon. However, putting this on a weak weapon will not accomplish a lot and realistically needs to be close to 9999 ATK so you can keep up with healing. In practice, I just beat up Freya a couple times for Sacred Ethers, transferred the +1000 ATK factor to a laser weapon, stuck on the Earth damage factor then refined it until it was 7x +1000. You can probably do it with Orichalcum/equip BoPs + Refined Might Tablet as an easier solution. Wrecking your ultimate weapons then reloading after is also plausible. I gave one of these to Cliff and another to Mirage and set them so the AI would continually deal damage (you can use pretty much whoever you want though). Battle Skills is generally ok if you want to level up some skills while you undertake this very boring procedure. As the final piece of the puzzle, I would recommend using Sophia or Peppita as the character you control since their strong short attacks both deal up to three attacks tripling your odds. I recommend not using a Tri-Emblem because you don’t want Attack Decision to pump up your damage. For Sophia, if you can push the dragon against a wall, you can consistently do 3 hits per attack making it probably the most ideal method, but this will also make it more boring since you won’t even need to move around. Peppita’s attack will knock the dragon up making it very hard to pin it anywhere. You’ll usually get in 3 hits, but sometimes only 1 because another character knocked it somewhere else. If you are having trouble keeping up with healing, try different skills or just remove them all and let them use their normal attacks. Max Fury as a support skill, a Tri-Emblem for Attack Decision or a Ring of Animosity (-3 Fury Use) are all excellent ways to raise average output. Remember to turn on Berserk for your healing characters as well! 3.2.15 Lucky Stars [BT3215] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Get 10 Lucky Stars (#245) Get 30 Lucky Stars (#246) Difficulty : Easy Time Window : Anytime Credit : Aya Brea I quote Aya Brea from the GameFAQ forums: “Go to sphere level 5, just North of the save point is a spider robot. I chose it because it's easy to get to (people will be spending a LOT of time in sphere 211, and LV5 is frequented because of the save point). Get a high level character, equip them JUST enough for the robots to do you damage. I used a LV200 cliff, with weak armor and only 1 atk/def +30%. The missile attacks were just doing ~50 HP damage. Now equip Lucky Star and another support ability (no Guard would be faster, but if you want, put First Aid on) and an accessory that regens MP. Make sure you switch to Regeneration AAA. Go into battle, preferable with 2 robots, now make sure you face AWAY from them, as at such a high level, you parry too often with frontal attacks. What I did was run to the edge to the right, face away from the robots and just stand there. With the number of missiles they're firing, you'll get a lot of stars. With no guard is easier as you don't get knocked down, but I used it as an opportunity to level up First Aid. If you get hit enough times, eventually a star will fall on you. Now just go read a book or watch TV or something. The only problems with this trick is that the game pauses when you fill up the damn gauge, so it's not a 100% automated trick, but just press a button when you hear the noise and go from there. I got this in about half an hour or so. Regen MP and First Aid will keep you alive forever.” This method works amazingly well. I tried to move my character around to manually touch the stars in an attempt to make it go faster, but it is pretty hard. Unless you have excellent hand to star moving skills, I would suggest just standing there since it’ll probably go just as fast. 3.2.16 Guarding [BT3216] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : 10 Consecutive Successful Guards (#260) 50 Consecutive Successful Guards (#261) 100 Consecutive Successful Guards (#262) 200 Consecutive Successful Guards (#263) 500 Consecutive Successful Guards (#264) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Anytime Credit : Chris Kern, EChang The first method as proposed by Chris Kern is to go to the Kirlsa Mines and enter into a battle with the bug enemies there. First kill off two of your party members and turn your AAA to regenerate. Try to find a battle with two of the long legged ones (Huge Spider) and kill off the spider (Taratula) if there is one. Then just sit there and watch them bash into your guard repeatedly. They are pretty stupid and will roam around doing nothing a lot, but sooner or later they will get into a groove and spam attacks on you repeatedly. Unfortunately, this groove sometimes entails them using strong attacks which means no BTs, in which case you should just escape and try again. It is confirmed that this does not work in difficulty modes above Galaxy. If you are lucky, this battle should take no longer than an hour or two. The other method is to guard against multi-hit weak attacks to quickly increase up the guard counter. Some options here are the needle attack from the spiders, various spray attacks from moths/dragons and my favorite the Ice Beam from Tyrant Renders. If you want to use Ice Beam, you want to severely damage the Render so he starts using it frequently, then just continuously guard it. Ice Beam is his only long range attack, so try to create some space and let him use it. If he closes in on you, he is most definitely not using Ice Beam so run in a bit to feint him then run out. 3.2.17 Consecutive Items [BT3217] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Item Received 10 Consecutive Times (#268) Difficulty : Moderate Time Window : Anytime Credit : EChang This one is a little bit tricky but not overly difficult. The premise for the strategy is to get a noblemen type enemies to drop a chest every fight. While any enemy within this group will work, I suggest killing the ones in the Maze of Tribulations Floor 2 because they have the most HP allowing you room for error. Although not necessary, it doesn’t hurt to get the Scumbag Slayer from the ‘Team Rank B’ fight in the Arena in Gemity. Either way, enter a battle, kill the extraneous enemies then start slowly dropping the HP on the Death Nobleman. It may help to use manual targeting here if you are having trouble singling out the scumbags. Use the Scan Enemy skill often to keep track of the Nobleman’s HP and stop attacking once he has about 40% of his life left. Give him 10-15 seconds to start his begging routine and if he doesn’t do it, smack him with another hit. Wait and repeat if necessary. If you use a weak weapon he will definitely drop a chest sooner or later then escape from the battle. Repeat this ten times and you have a new BT. 3.2.18 No Damage [BT3218] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : No Damage 30 Times in a Row (#273) No Damage 50 Times in a Row (#274) Difficulty : Effortless Time Window : Anytime Another extremely easy set of BTs to get. Once you are high level, go fight any low level enemy and just let it hit you repeatedly for 0 damage until you get the trophies. I personally recommend the porcupines in Traum Mountains/Bequerel Mountain Path since they have a nice multi-hit strong attack and spawn up to four at once. Consider synthesizing or equipping refined boots of prowess if you need to increase your defense in a hurry. 3.2.19 Auto Battle [BT3219] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Win Auto Battle (#294) Difficulty : Effortless Time Window : Anytime This one is very simple to get. Enter a battle and don’t do anything while the AI finishes off the enemies. For obvious reasons you should do this against weak enemies that won’t kill your computer allies. 3.2.20 Battle Sphere [BT3220] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Hit with Battle Sphere 5 Times (#295) Difficulty : Hard Time Window : Anytime Credit : printf This is generally an annoying BT to get because the Battle Sphere operates in weird ways. I suggest creating 20 battle spheres through IC before you attempt this, so you can try more times before resets. Here is the strategy as printf describes it: “I went into the southern entrance of Kirlsa Caverns and took the first turn left. Inside that room is a spider. I went into the battle and put my characters on manual. I killed off the Huge Spiders (because their webs slow you down a lot) with Mirage. Now, when a Battle Sphere slams into a wall at moderate speed, it usually bounces back with greatly reduced speed. I have found this to be very helpful in earning this BT. If you try to launch the Sphere directly at a boulder, chances are it'll displace itself too far away from the boulder. The idea is to either rub the Sphere against the boulder or to get the Sphere to bounce rapidly between the boulder and a wall. I've done this a few times by "rubbing" the Sphere against a boulder, but I managed to do it in a way that I think is more reliable because it doesn't require you to manipulate the Sphere right away. Using the Battle Sphere causes the usual hang up due to item usage, which is why it's preferable to use a "fire-and-forget" method. In the battlefield, there's a "pocket" in the lower left-hand side. There's a torch there (to help you find the spot I'm talking about). Boulders sometimes like to roll there. What you want is a very large, fast boulder (you want it to have enough speed to reach the wall without despawning) that is rolling towards that spot. Once you've spotted one, go towards the corner. As it reaches a moderate distance from the wall, run towards the wall and fire a Battle Sphere at or near the torch. It is important that you fire the Sphere from a good distance away from the wall and that you don't wait until the boulder is right next to the wall. Don't try to cram yourself in between the wall and the boulder, because the Sphere will likely come to a complete halt right away, and you want it to be able to move between the wall and the boulder. If the Sphere hits the boulder only four times or so, feel free to give it a nudge. I had to do this the fifth time I got it. Again, I've tried to get this by scoring a total of five hits with individual Spheres and individual boulders. I have not seen the BT trigger in that manner.” 3.2.21 Battle Distance [BT3221] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Win staying more than 5 meters from enemy (#299) Moved a total distance of 42.195 km in Battle (#300) Difficulty : Effortless Time Window : Anytime Both of these BTs are very easy to get. The 42.195 km one is actually quite a low number meaning you should reach it easily through playing the game. To get the 5 meter BT, simply kill all the enemies with long range battle skills like Maria’s Gun skills, Nel’s Flying Guillotine or Symbology. 3.3.1 Norton [BT3301] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Norton Within 30 seconds (#079) Defeat Norton Without Taking Damage (#080) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : 1,600 HP / 35,800 MP Rec Level : Lv3 This fight may be difficult because you only have 30 seconds. I recommend using Fayt with Blade of Fury on Short X and Aerial on Short O. Repeatedly do combo chains of normal X -> Blade of Fury (175%) -> Aerial (200%) for a quick battle. For no damage, run around while Cliff kills him. You’ll likely be practicing the art of boss fight reloading starting from this point. Remember that battle trophies are saved on a separate save file, so you can kill the boss, get your BT, then reload your main game to fight the boss again for more trophies. You should do this for every boss (if you need to), so you don’t need to worry about them in subsequent playthroughs. One major advantage is that you can burn through healing items like no tomorrow on your speed BT fights then just reload fighting them more conservatively with magic healing. 3.3.2 Giant Crab [BT3302] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Giant Crab Within 1 Minute (#081) Defeat Giant Crab Without Taking Damage (#082) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 3,500 HP / 80 MP Rec Level : Lv6 This is a good candidate for an MP kill if you want to test out using Fayt’s Blazing Sword. You should be able to just spam attacks and kill him otherwise. 3.3.3 Shelby [BT3303] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Shelby Within 1 Minute (#083) Defeat Shelby Without Taking Damage (#084) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 5,100 HP / 13,826 MP Rec Level : Lv12 If you don’t mind mass leveling, you should get Fayt to learn Side Kick (lv15) because the first floor of the Kirlsa Training Facility has a handy heal spot to help make it quick. Afterwards, you can start your illustrious career of side kick spamming to Shelby to death. Depending on your luck hitting multiple soldiers at once, you may need to try a couple times. 3.3.4 Moonshadow Clan Chief [BT3304] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Moonshadow Clan Chief Within 1 Minute (#085) Defeat Moonshadow Clan Chief Without Taking Damage (#086) Difficulty : Effortless Boss Stats : 5,500 HP / 250 MP Rec Level : Any The Moonshadow Chief is special in that he is not only the easiest boss in the game, but also the only boss that you can permanently miss fighting. When you rescue Roger from the cage, you must accept his help or you will not experience this fight. The fight itself is easy, pathetic attacks and low MP make him a cinch. If your Nel is a decent level, weak X -> shadow wave X will take him out in short order. Otherwise, side kick chains are reliable as always. 3.3.5 Mudman [BT3305] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Mudman Within 1 Minute (#087) Defeat Mudman Without Taking Damage (#088) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 8,000 HP / 500 MP Rec Level : Lv15 Typical boss, side kick chain to death. Saying that, his attack has a wide arc, so make sure you save beforehand since you will more than likely have to reload to get the no damage BT. 3.3.6 Cockatrice [BT3306] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Cockatrice Within 1 Minute (#089) Defeat Cockatrice Without Taking Damage (#090) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 15,500 HP / 431 MP Rec Level : Lv20 Another victim for side kick spamming. Ice Dagger chaining with Nel is also a good option. If you get petrified don’t worry, there is a girl that will heal you in the refinery on your way out. 3.3.7 Demetrio [BT3307] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Demetrio Within 1 Minute (#093) Defeat Demetrio Without Taking Damage (#094) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : 14,800 HP / 17,776 MP Rec Level : Lv22 Somewhat hard to speed kill because of his two lackey dragons which get in the way. Some people try to kill the boss first then the lackeys after, and others kill the lackeys first and the boss after. I’ve seen both ways get the BTs so I wouldn’t worry too much. Spam Side Kick as usual, and add in Berserk if you need to. Nel is also fairly decent in this fight with Ice Daggers since it has a chance of freezing the lackey dragons so you can shatter kill them. 3.3.8 Crystal Cerebus [BT3308] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Crystal Cerberus Within 1 Minute (#091) Defeat Crystal Cerberus Without Taking Damage (#092) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : 30,000 HP / 3,500 MP Rec Level : Lv25 One of the harder bosses to speed kill since he runs around so quickly. Alas, he can still be Side Kick chained to death. However, you might need to activate Berserk so you can chain longer since more hits will miss. You should also refine a couple of Might Tablets before this fight so you can pop one if you need the boost (reload after fights so you don’t use them up). Getting the no damage BT is annoying since he runs around so much. Have faith in your party to kick his ass and stay as far away as possible and it should be fine. 3.3.9 Blue Zombie Dragon [BT3309] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Blue Dragon Zombie Within 1 Minute (#097) Defeat Blue Dragon Zombie Without Taking Damage (#098) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 30,000 HP / 2,500 MP Rec Level : Lv30 This guy is pretty easy except he has a damage aura that deals MP damage. On galaxy this isn’t too much of a problem since you should be able to heal faster than your allies are dying. Spam away for the win. If you are having trouble, chain long range battle skills such as Aiming Device to help out. 3.3.10 Robin Wind [BT3310] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Robin Wind Within 1 Minute (#099) Defeat Robin Wind Without Taking Damage (#100) Difficulty : Hard Boss Stats : 50,000 HP / 1,800 MP Rec Level : Lv34 Probably considered one of the hardest main game bosses, if not the hardest. However, he falls quickly to side kicks combos so have no fear. Be liberal in using rare berries and might tablets and just reload after. If you are taking too much damage, consider equipping the Wind Charm that you should have gotten earlier in the dungeon. It might be a good idea to use item creation (IC) to make 3 EM Bomb MPs just incase you want to cheap him to death. It will also save you some frustration since he likes to randomly thunder flare your character running around on the opposite side of the screen when you are trying for the no damage BT. 3.3.11 Crosell [BT3311] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Crosell within one Minute (#101) Defeat Crosell Without Taking Damage (#102) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 29,000 HP / 4,200 MP (Form 1), 62,000 HP / 6,000 MP (Form 2) Rec Level : Lv35 The boss is intimidating but not too hard. Another one falls to side kick spamming. If you wish to do some leveling up, the flaming zombie enemies are excellent in that they are slow and have very low MP making it pretty easy to take them out quickly and build up your battle chains. Most of their attacks can also be AAAed. 3.3.12 Biwig [BT3312] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Biwig Within 1 Minute (#103) Defeat Biwig Without Taking Damage (#104) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 26,000 HP / 13,816 MP Rec Level : Lv37 Pretty simple and dies easily to side kick spamming (see a trend here?). 3.3.13 Proclaimer [BT3313] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Proclaimer Within 1 Minute (#105) Defeat Proclaimer Without Taking Damage (#106) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 50,000 HP / 50,000 MP Rec Level : Lv39 If you are under-leveled you may have a rough time because it can dish out some fairly serious MP damage. Fortunately, it likes to cast random spells once in awhile giving you the opportunity to side kick the crap out of it. If you chose to use Maria as a regular party member this could be the start of your Scatter Beam spamming career, which is almost as cheap as Side Kick spamming. 3.3.14 Azazer [BT3314] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Azazer Within 1 Minute (#107) Defeat Azazer Without Taking Damage (#108) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : 99,000 HP / 9,000 MP Rec Level : Lv43 He’s not too hard to beat, but for BT reasons he could be reasonably difficult. If you don’t have a good MP dealer his 100k HP is tough to rip through in a minute. If you want to continue Side Kick spamming, Berserk/Might Tablet is probably a necessity. You might want to consider synthesizing one or two Orichalcum on Fayt’s weapon if you are having a lot of trouble. Be wary about continuing further into the Sphere if your levels are really low since you will not have a chance to synthesize or level easily before the next mandatory fight. 3.3.15 Belzeber and Berial [BT3315] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Berial & Belzeber Within 1 Minute (#125) Defeat Berial & Belzeber Without Taking Damage (#126) Difficulty : Hard Boss Stats : 62,000 HP / 30,000 MP (Belzeber), 70,000 HP / 5,000 MP (Berial) Rec Level : Lv44 Pretty tough fight because there are two strong bosses here at once. Berial has really low MP, so take him out with Aiming Device if you are using Maria, else you’ll probably need to suck it up and do normal HP kills. This battle is somewhat random as you cannot directly control which boss your AI party members will attack. Although there are arguments for killing each of the bosses first, I am in favor of taking care of Berial before Belzeber. Berial is much more dangerous because his missiles can deal huge damage, and his jumping up move can waste a lot of precious time. Ideally you have the AI go keep Belzeber busy while you quickly Side Kick Berial to death before ganging up on the other for the BTs. Unfortunately, sometimes you are not so lucky and will have to play it by ear. Again, don’t feel bad using up your perfect/magical berries then just reloading after. This battle could be quite frustrating if you have not synthesized anything on your weapon, but definitely doable. Again Berserk/Might Tablets are highly recommended although it could mean a quick gameover if you get hit head on by missiles. 3.3.16 Convictor [BT3316] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Convictor Within 1 Minute (#109) Defeat Convictor Without Taking Damage (#110) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 120,000 HP / 10,000 MP Rec Level : Lv45 Wow, this boss has a lot of HP.. to Side Kick to death. You probably want to Side Kick the two previous mini-bosses to death as well. MP kill works well too if you have someone suited for the task. 3.3.17 Dark Armor [BT3317] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Dark Armor Within 1 Minute (#111) Defeat Dark Armor Without Taking Damage (#112) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 67,000 HP / 6,000 MP Rec Level : Lv50 More Side Kick comboing to victory. This battle should not be too hard, but if you are having trouble keeping up with the rapid HP boosts of bosses it might be time to experiment with Item Creation (or level up more). Consider making and synthesizing one or two Orichalcum to help out, though it is very easy to make the game trivial you attach too many. Therefore, IC with caution and responsibly as it may affect your game experience significantly. If you want to level up, a good spot is at the river just outside Duggas Forest. A bird spawns there (Basilisk) which is fairly easy to kill and doesn’t do MP damage; it will stone your party though, so bring healing items. The various flying enemies with tentacles are also good for XP though they deal MP damage and are more dangerous. 3.3.18 Crystal Statue [BT3318] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Crystal Statue Within 1 Minute (#113) Defeat Crystal Statue Without Taking Damage (#114) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 168,000 HP / 10,000 MP Rec Level : Lv54 This guy doesn’t have a ton of HP, but the fact that he moves around so much means that it is difficult to land a long chain on him. Consider maximizing stunlocking from your other party members (Fists of Fury with Cliff, Aura Wall with Albel, etc) to keep him in place while you spam Side Kick. He can also reasonably be MP killed if you are using Nel, Albel or Maria. 3.3.19 Dark Eye [BT3319] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Dark Eye Within 1 Minute (#115) Defeat Dark Eye Without Taking Damage (#116) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : 330,000 HP / 56,000 MP Rec Level : Lv58 Yikes, 330k HP! The speed BT might be tough to get if you have only been using Side Kick so far since he likes to fly around. You will definitely need to use a Might Tablet/Berserk if you intend to continue to use Side Kick, you might even need to synthesize a couple Orichalcum to further boost your attack power. Alternatively you can try doing combos of Scatter Beams or Flying Guillotines since those will hit him even if he is floating around. 3.3.20 Chimera [BT3320] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Chimera Within 1 Minute (#117) Defeat Chimera Without Taking Damage (#118) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 200,000 HP / 28,000 MP Rec Level : Lv62 Not too much HP here, but it is pretty strong and can paralyze your characters. I suggest equipping Amulets of Freedoms so you can continue your Side Kick spamming with impunity. As usual, use berries as necessary and reload if you need to. 3.3.21 Stone Golem [BT3321] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Stone Golem Within 1 Minute (#119) Defeat Stone Golem Without Taking Damage (#120) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 300,000 HP / 20,000 MP Rec Level : Lv66 Powerful boss but doesn’t move around a lot allowing you to spam Side Kicks with relative ease. You probably want to try to stunlock him if possible so he doesn’t kill your allies too quick. Having one person stay at long range is recommended so his strong area close attacks don’t take you all out. 3.3.22 Aurora Monster [BT3322] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Aurora Monster Within 1 Minute (#095) Defeat Aurora Monster Without Taking Damage (#096) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 285,000 HP / 212,025 MP Rec Level : Lv75 This boss is an optional one in the ancient ruins of mosel underground. He isn’t too hard if you are a decent level and should die easily to Side Kick chains. It is recommended you do the optional boss fights after you beat the main game. Mosel Underground is by far the most annoying dungeon in the game (and probably ever invented in any game) and you do not want to die and have to restart. 3.3.23 Spirit Trio [BT3323] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Spirit Trio Within 1 Minute (#121) Defeat Spirit Trio Without Taking Damage (#122) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : 120,000 HP / 30,000 HP (Robin Wind), 115,400 HP / 50,000 MP (Aquaregia), 135,000 HP / 40,000 MP (Nova Blaze) Rec Level : Lv85 Another optional fight in the ancient ruins of mosel underground. This fight is sort of tricky if you are low level since there are three of them. Consider returning here post-game to mop up if you are having trouble. Having alchemy enhanced/post-game weapons is recommended here. 3.3.24 Battlecopter [BT3324] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Battlecopter Within 1 Minute (#123) Defeat Battlecopter Without Taking Damage (#124) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 200,000 HP / 30,000 MP Rec Level : Lv70 Gun toting bosses are generally very bad, but this guy isn’t too horrible. Try to stunlock him in place while you Side Kick him. His gun attack is annoying, but hopefully he won’t get to use it too often. 3.3.25 Luther [BT3325] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Luther (#127) Defeat Luther Within 5 Minutes (#128) Defeat Luther Without Taking Damage (#129) Defeat Luther at Universe (#131) Defeat Luther at Universe Without Taking Damage (#132) Defeat Luther at Universe Within 8 minutes (#133) Defeat Luther at 4D Without Taking Damage (#135) Defeat Luther at 4D Within 10 Minutes (#136) Defeat Luther Alone (#213) Complete Win Over Luther (#223) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : 200,000 HP / 60,000 MP (First Form), 400,000 HP / 120,000 MP (Second Form) [600/180 Uni, 800/288 4D] Rec Level : Lv80 Lots of battle trophies to get here. To be clear, the BTs for Luther only apply to his second form, you can take as much damage or spend as much time as you want on his first form and it will not change anything. On Galaxy this fight is relatively straightforward. Assuming you are a decent level (70+) and have a bit of IC work done on your weapons he should die well within your 5 minute limit. Just spam your battle skill of choice and it should be over quickly. The no damage one is trickier because you’ll be trying to hide your character on the other side of the map. The AI is a bit more stupid with chaining and will not do it as much damage. Items you use this battle will not save to your gamefile so feel free to use berries and such. It is probably advisable to use a Stun Bomb on him if he manages to start up Insanity Prelude since that is a good way to get your party wiped out if you are not careful. If he manages to get IP off, try to hide at the top edge of the screen, though it does not always work. On Universe and 4D I abused stun bombs heavily so I could get all the trophies and not have to come back here. Although it only takes 15-20 minutes running through the firewall and spiral tower it is not too fun. My strategy here is simple, set all 3 of your guys to manual and spread them out so he won’t kill them off together. Use a Stun Bomb, then use your strongest character and whack him around until he looks like he is going to use a big spell or kill you, then use another stun bomb, heal with your other manual character, then attack with your main damage dealer again. With 20-30 Stun Bombs (any type), he should go down relatively quick though if you didn’t IC your weapons you might not be able to do the speed BTs since the damage throughput is pretty pathetic. Luther like all bosses can be beat with skill through AAAing and such if you are so inclined to take that route. Defeating Luther Alone can be attained more easily after you defeat the post-game bosses and return here with inflated levels (and defense). Complete win over Luther means that you need to defeat him without wearing armor and accessories. Since you are still allowed to use a weapon, this isn’t too big of a problem. You can simply synthesize tons of BoPs on your weapon and be invulnerable. It is also recommended that you attempt this BT after post-game dungeons. As with all other BTs related with killing something alone, your party must be dead previous to you starting the battle and they cannot be resurrected at any point in time during the fight. 3.3.26 Luther Low Level [BT3326] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Luther at lv1 (#130) Defeat Luther at Universe Difficulty at Lv 10 (#134) Defeat Luther at 4D Difficulty at Lv 10 (#137) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : 200,000 HP / 60,000 MP (First Form), 400,000 HP / 120,000 MP (Second Form) [600/180 Uni, 800/288 4D] Credit : EChang, Aya Brea Okay, Luther strategies round 2. You will need to complete a minimum of two playthroughs to get these three trophies; one will have to be on universe, the other on 4D. The remaining lv1 BT can be obtaining concurrently with one of the others or obtained alone through another game of any difficulty (not Earth). The overall point of these BTs is that you must fight and defeat Luther with your entire active party under the cap. This is not an average level, but a cap on each individual character. Fayt, Cliff, Nel, Sophia, Roger and Peppita all start below level 10, so you must keep three of these characters at or under level 10 by the end of the game. This can be further confused since you can potentially have only seven total characters and not recruit your eighth. This results in you only requiring two characters under level 10 if you leave the third spot of your party blank. The level 1 trophy is much more restricting in that only three characters start at level 1 – Fayt, Sophia and Peppita. Therefore to get this BT, Fayt cannot gain any levels and you must take Peppita as your eighth character (if any). If you don’t have an eight character, you must only take Fayt and Sophia into the final battle (third spot will be blank). When you start your Universe/4D games, you will immediately see two major differences. The enemies are actually hard, and your party members are useless. The major implication of this is that although not using Fayt at all may seem a bit ridiculous at first, the fact is that you’ll virtually be killing all the bosses solo anyway because the AI is so dumb. For this reason I recommend that you do the lv1 BT the same time as you do one of your lv10 BTs. Since the battle experience is quite a bit difference on the higher difficulties I’ll provide a primer for until you can readily make orichalcum and plow through the rest of the game. As some general rules, always try to attack from behind since the enemies will parry a lot on higher difficulties. Spamming one attack throughout will not work and you’ll have to dodge and use AAA a lot more. Your party members will die a lot, it is probably not worth resurrecting them. Lastly, I introduce the concept of what is commonly referred to as NMG (No Movement Glitch). When you are the last character alive, the enemy will stand there and do nothing as long as you remain in motion after anyone makes an attack. Therefore, if you feint an enemy into attacking you by running by them, they will cease to move if you keep on running around. Enemies you did not feint will remain in motion giving you the opportunity to separate them. Alternatively, after you perform an action (ie, casting a spell, using an item, using a battle skill, etc), holding a movement button so you start moving immediately once the animation ends will make all enemies stop moving (except ones too far away). You will be using this a lot in Universe/4D, so get used to it. Although it is called a ‘glitch,’ it is in my opinion that it is a feature put into the game so that you aren’t automatically toast if you are the last guy alive so don’t be ashamed to abuse it. To simplicity reasons, the primer will be centered on using Nel instead of Fayt. You of course can use whomever you want as long as it meets the level criteria I set above. It is assumed that you run from all random battles. Battle Simulator – Optional, but you will want to win the first fight if you are following the private action FAQs for the different endings. Generally speaking you want to split them up then feint them into doing strong attacks and going behind them and hitting them with X. Incapacitators – Run from side to side and hit stragglers with X after you feint them into attacking. Pesotto Forest – Complete the map for the Bunny. Norton’s Henchmen – This battle is tricky because you cannot kill any of them with Fayt if you are going for the level 1 BT. You have to reduce them all to low health and wait for them to run away. To summarize the HP of the different thugs; on Universe: Makafay – 450HP, Tepeki – 300HP, Buster – 375HP. 4D: Makafay – 540HP, Tepeki – 360HP, Buster – 450HP. If you are having trouble to get them all to run away, I suggest turn targeting to Manual (Config Menu) then targeting one at a time and lowering him to under 100 HP, then wait 20-30 seconds between each additional attack. For lv10 BTs, just kill them normally. Norton – Control Cliff and let Fayt die. Dodge his strong shots and AAA Shooting Spree and his weak attacks followed by a Short O x2 combo. Switch Fayt out of the party so he doesn’t gain levels. Inquisitor – On universe you can use Fayt and Cliff as meat shields while you kill the soldiers then finish of the boss after. On 4D switch to Nel and use NMG to run from end to end of the map killing the lackeys with Fireballs. You can kill the Inquisitor normally afterwards. Giant Crab – Use NMG and Fireballs. Traum Mountains – Complete the map for the Bunny. Go to Airyglyth, sell your bunnies and buy an Osprey Dagger for Nel. Earth Smasher – Should be easy with Nel’s new weapon. Bequeral Mountain Path - Complete the map for the Bunny. Aire Hills - Complete the map for the Bunny. Go back to Airglyth and buy the Superior Chain Mail for Nel even though you can’t equip it yet. Sell random things and buy two silver rings if you can afford it on 4D. Black Brigade Soldiers (Cliff) – Generally speaking, a pain in the ass. Use NMG to separate them (by a lot), then feint the one alone. Dodge and counter with a Short O if it’s a strong attack, AAA and Short O x2 if it’s a weak. Kirlsa Training Facility – After you get Nel back equip your new armor (rings if on 4D). You should be invincible so take advantage of the healing spot at the beginning and level up. Level to a minimum of lv10 (Shadow Wave), but I strongly recommend lv16 for Ice Daggers and Berserk. It doesn’t matter what level Cliff is on since he will die anyway. Shelby and Goons – Shadow wave the soldiers then kill Shelby with whatever you want. Granah Hills - Complete the map for the Bunny. Palmira Plains – Continue to continue maps for bunnies if you want to get more Airyglyth gear, but I stop at this point. Grapebinds – Just wack away, your armor should be high enough to win easily. Moonshadow Chief – Shadow wave a couple times. Mudman – AAA and attack with shadow wave. I’ll be doing a lot of dodging this battle. Legion Dragons – First of many dragon battles. You want to build some distance then use long Ice Dagger to score an opening hit. You can also feint them into attacking then counter with Ice Daggers. Their breath attack with no name is strong and cannot be AAAed but Searing Breath CAN be AAAed. Use AAA as well when there is one left. They are fast, so heal with items or run to the very edges to heal with magic. Various Barr enemies – Use Cliff/Roger as meat shields while you shadow wave. Cockatrice – Turn on Berserk and counter with 250% Ice Dagger chains (on Long) after you dodge his falling rocks attack. Can also AAA and counter. Solders – Use NMG to separate the soldiers (by a lot), then feint the one alone. If he does a weak attack, AAA and use Ice Daggers; if he does a strong, dodge and counter with Ice Dagger. Demetrio and Goons – Same as before, feint and counter with Ice Daggers. You may be able to shatter kill one of the lackey dragons if you are lucky. Albel – Shadow wave the soldiers to death while Cliff/Roger are tanking. Dodge Albel’s strong attacks (run if he does his strong combo) and counter with shadow wave, AAA and heal if you need to, otherwise shadow wave more. If shadow wave knocks him down you can stand where you are to regen fury, otherwise you should run away a bit so Charge doesn’t get you. Vox – AAA Searing Breath and his normal attacks and use Ice Daggers. Dodge his strong attacks and counter. Workshop – Go to any workshop and make at least 1 Mind Bomb, 1 EM Bomb MP and 1 EM Stun Bomb MP. Refer to Item Creation FAQs and use the calculator (http://aerius.atspace.com/so3ic.html) if you need it. Flying Knight – Pretty easy, just chain ice daggers. Crystal Statue/Cerebus – Dodge the strong kicking move and counter with shadow wave. They have a quick charge move that will sometimes hit you but that’s ok. AAA the charging move and Tri-Spike and heal if you need to, otherwise shadow wave more. Vendeeni Soldiers – Worst fight ever! You can win using the NMG Fireball tactic fairly easily, but it will take a long time. Otherwise, you can try using shadow wave with Nel, aiming device with Maria, charge with Roger, or hammer of might with Cliff. If you win easily, congrats, you are better at the game than me. If you get frustrated this is what you want to do. Enter the battle, run up and to the left a little bit until the soldiers bunch up and start charging up their strong attack. Use a EM Bomb MP to knock them out of it, then use shadow wave to kill them off (on 4D). There may be one or two left over to bomb again if you want, but you should be able can mop up normally with shadow wave no problem. Aquaria – Go to the shop and buy 5-6 MP Bombs (preferably stun kinds) and a couple of Mind bombs. Schweimer and more lackeys – Standard dragon fight tactics. Blue Dragon Zombie – If you bought a new gun for Maria use aiming device chains, otherwise feint him into using his breath attack then go behind him and use shadow wave. Also AAA his poison attacks and shadow wave more. It is possible to use shadow wave chains in this fight, but it is tricky since if you are too close you will get knocked out of it. Robin Wind – You can fight him later, but I just MP bombed him until he died to save some time. Throw in some shadow waves if you want. That’s it! Talk to Vanilla who will send you back to Airyglyth. Get Misty Lear along the way so you can make orichalcum while you are outside. Synthesizing +500 ATK factors will make the game substantially easier, but if you want to retain the challenge do not use orichalcum. The Mind Bombs are for the 6x soldiers battle incase you need it since that battle is also potentially very annoying. At this point I suggest choosing one character that you will stick with for the rest of the game and spending all your IC efforts there. Maria is probably advisable since she is the queen of cheapness post-game with Energy Burst; unfortunately she is probably the most boring to play as well. When you reach Luther the battle is surprisingly easy (perhaps easier than killing him normally with your leveled up characters). First synthesize your uber weapon with +500 ATK factors onto a Laser Weapon, or if you haven’t been using one, IC a new laser weapon with a minimum of five +500 ATK factors on it. Next make or buy at least 20 Stun Bombs of any variety (30+ for 4D). Before the battle, give Sophia your buffed up laser weapon and set everyone to Manual. Once the battle starts, use a stun bomb and spread out your three characters so they won’t get all wiped out at once. When he recovers use another stun bomb with anyone other than Sophia while you move her behind Luther and use a Short O attack. Afterwards, stun bomb him again wait for her fury to recharge and a split second after that. The reason for the delay is so your item counter will reset just as her attack finishes so you can bomb Luther again immediately. Repeat the process until Luther dies. If you put enough +500 ATK factors on Sophia’s weapon you may get the no damage and speed trophies at the same time as a bonus. 3.3.27 Gabriel [BT3327] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Gabriel (#138) Defeat Gabriel Without Taking Damage (#139) Defeat Gabriel Within 5 Minutes (#140) Defeat Gabriel at Universe (#141) Defeat Gabriel at Universe Without Taking Damage (#142) Defeat Gabriel at Universe Within 8 Minutes (#143) Defeat Gabriel at 4D (#144) Defeat Gabriel at 4D Without Taking Damage (#145) Defeat Gabriel at 4D Within 10 Minutes (#146) Taunt Gabriel 10 Times (#174) Defeat Gabriel Alone (#214) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : Gal: 1,000,000 HP / 200,000 MP Uni: 1,500,000 HP / 300,000 MP 4D : 2,300,000 HP / 560,000 MP Rec Level : Lv100 The first of the post game super bosses is perhaps the easiest because you can always fall back on stun bombing him to death if all else fails. Conventional strategy has it that you try to stunlock him as much as possible while you beat him down. This means using skills such as Fists of Fury and Thunder Flare if all possible depending on your selection of characters. It is a good idea to make or buy some Amulets of Freedom before the battle to prevent against the inevitable paralysis effect. A superior method is perhaps just to refine some Medicine Bottles and use them at the start of the battle so you don’t need to waste an accessory slot. If you are trying to win without stun bombs, making some Boots of Prowess will also help a lot in soaking up his attacks. On Galaxy you have a lot of options because he really isn’t that strong. The standard way would probably to control the healer and help deal damage when you can. Situate him or her in the lower right hand corner to avoid getting hit by Dragons. If the fighting is in that corner, you might need to move your healer. In that case use a stun bomb to knock him out of Dragons if you see him using it. You can AAA a lot of his other attacks including Lightning Feather but they often come out very fast not giving you a lot of opportunity. On Universe he is a fair bit trickier because he can now kill off your party with relative ease. If you are trying to do it without stun bombs, you are going to have to do some pretty fancy AAAing to survive. A method that works generally decent is just to blast him with Energy Burst while your party members try to lock Gabriel into place as best as they can. When they die, resurrect them and continue to just pound away. For 4D you are going to have to seriously abuse stun bombs since he will now rip you up with one attack if you mess up. It is still possible to do a fairly clean fight with AAAing, but it is difficult. His HP of 2.3 million is not insurmountable with stun bomb cheapness so you can always just stun bomb, attack, stun bomb, attack, etc, until he dies. With a single canceled Scatter Shot or Sophia’s Short O (9999 ATK with Attack Decision), you should be able to deal 100k per stun bomb relatively easily. Use Might Tablets/Berserk to increase damage but don’t be too greedy between bombs since he is relatively stunlock proof. For all difficulties, I would recommend doing the no damage trophies after you finish Sphere. At a high level with a lot of BoPs, you can render him completely useless by nullifying his damage; this works on all difficulties including 4D. You should also get the 10 taunts BT the same time you do one of your no damage fights. 3.3.28 Lenneth [BT3328] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Lenneth (#156) Defeat Lenneth Without Taking Damage (#157) Defeat Lenneth within 10 Minutes (#158) Defeat Lenneth at Universe (#159) Defeat Lenneth at Universe Without Taking Damage (#160) Defeat Lenneth at Universe within 15 Minutes (#161) Defeat Lenneth at 4D (#162) Defeat Lenneth at 4D Without Taking Damage (#163) Defeat Lenneth at 4D within 20 Minutes (#164) Defeat Lenneth Alone (#216) Difficulty : Hard Boss Stats : Gal: 7,000,000 HP / 700,000 MP Uni: 10,500,000 HP / 1,050,000 MP 4D : 21,000,000 HP / 2,100,000 MP Rec Level : Lv255 It is recommended that you be level 255 with 9999 ATK before you go to Sphere lv210 to fight her because she packs some serious power for a cute little girl. Her normal attacks consist of massive chains that will hit you lots of times for huge damage. In addition, her ultra attack of Nibelung Valesti will probably kill anyone caught in the blast which happens to cover be most of the battlefield. Conventional strategy is to utilize stun locking as much as possible to try to reduce her damage output while you pound her with powerful attacks. Skills like Fists of Fury once again are highly valuable in keeping her in place while you use canceled high damage attacks. You probably want to fully refine the armor you found in the lower level of Sphere and refine some Boots of Prowess as well to manage the damage you take. While you might not think of it, mana regeneration items are also useful for front line tanks since you’ll be eating a fair bit of MP damage and having to use items all the time is very annoying. Stun bombs should also be used when she starts using Nibelung Valesti. The method that most people use to kill her easily is to concentrate on defense to completely nullify her damage. On galaxy level this can be attained by synthesizing 8 Boots of Prowess to an empty 8 slot weapon (like Veinslay) for Fayt, then equipping him with one more (9x +30% ATK/DEF total). Fayt is typically used because he has the highest base defense out of anyone. The last accessory slot should be filled with a refined blazing pendant that absorbs Wind and Earth so her magic spells don’t hurt you either. On Galaxy level, defense above 3500 is sufficient to make you invincible. Either go solo with a hyper defense boosted character or bring friends to speed it up a bit. Not much skill required here except to heal yourself once in awhile. If you are aiming for the no damage and alone trophies make sure you do not attack with weak attacks as her AAA will damage you and ruin your plan. As a side note, you only require 3500 defense this fight, so if you synthesized your BoPs to a laser weapon, you can conceivably use many characters to win this fight no problem. Remember to take a refined might tablet at the beginning of the fight to max your attack. Universe requires 5000 defense (or 4000s + Protection spell) – if you want to use ‘Uber Fayt,’ you’ll most likely need to feed him Defense+ Berries from the following Sphere levels: 111, 125, 129, 135, 164, 168, 182, 192, 198, and 201. Alternatively, you can reherse for the Freya fight by not abusing a solo invincible character. Have a tank always buffed with Protection, Maria in the middle spamming Energy Burst and you hiding in a corner playing healer/stunbomer making sure everything runs smoothly. Chaining Thunder Flares or Explosions is an option if you want to speed it up a bit. Lastly, on 4D you cannot nullify her damage completely. Therefore you will pretty much have to use the tactic outlined in the previous paragraph. Maria is highly recommended since Energy Burst lets you deal huge damage from long distance giving you a steady stream of damage, and reducing the amount of healing you need to do. Turn on convert damage if you want for Maria since it’ll make her live a bit longer. Even though on 4D you cannot fully nullify damage, I recommend casting Protection on Cliff anyway since it’ll make him live a lot longer. Settings I used for Galaxy/Universe: Fayt – Laser Weapon + 8x BoP, Blazing Pendant (Wind/Earth), BoP - Short X: Shotgun Blast, Short O: Air Raid, Support: CSS - Controlled Fayt for no damage BTs, Berserk Off Cliff – Valorous Gauntlets + 3x BoP, Tri-Emblem, Blue Talisman - Short X, Short O: Fists of Fury - Helps with the stunlocking, Berserk Off Nel - Death Bringers + 4x BoP, Tri-Emblem, Blue Talisman - Long X, Long O: Flying Guillotine (250% chains!) - Controlled and chained FGs for speed trophy, Berserk On For Universe/4D Cliff – Laser Weapon + 8x BoP, BoP, BoP - Short X, Short O: Fists of Fury, Support: Max Fury - Helps with the stunlocking, Berserk Off Maria – Dragoon Laser + 4x BoP, Tri-Emblem, Victory Trophy - Long X: Aiming Device, Long O: Energy Burst, Support: Max Fury - Main damage dealer, Berserk On, Convert MP Sophia – Adept Staff, Ring of Mental Power, Blazing Pendant (Wind/Earth) - Long X, Long O: Thunder Flare, Support: Increase MP, Quick Symbol - Controlled Sophia for BTs, Berserk On, Convert MP As a final note, you can only fight Lenneth once unlike all the other super bosses, so you must reload between every fight to get more BTs. Make sure you do not forget the ‘Defeat Lenneth with only x’ BTs as explained in section 3.3.35. 3.3.29 Ethereal Queen [BT3329] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Ethereal Queen (#174) Defeat Ethereal Queen Without Taking Damage (#148) Defeat Ethereal Queen Within 10 Minutes (#149) Defeat Ethereal Queen at Universe (#150) Defeat Ethereal Queen at Universe Without Taking Damage (#151) Defeat Ethereal Queen at Universe within 15 Minutes (#152) Defeat Ethereal Queen at 4D (#153) Defeat Ethereal Queen at 4D Without Taking Damage (#154) Defeat Ethereal Queen at 4D Within 20 Minutes (#155) Taunt Ethereal Queen 10 Times (#175) Defeat Ethereal Queen Alone (#215) Defeat Ethereal Queen 5 Times (#275) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : Gal: 10,000,000 HP / 2,000,000 MP Uni: 15,000,000 HP / 3,000,000 MP 4D : 30,000,000 HP / 6,000,000 MP Rec Level : Lv255 Although she is the boss after Lenneth (Sphere lv211), she is generally considered to be easier because her attacks are not as threatening and her super move (Celestial Star) is not as powerful as Nibelung Valesti. You can AAA a lot in this battle if you are going about it solo style, and her AI isn’t too great allowing you deal pretty good damage with fairly low reprisal. Typical super boss tactics apply here; try to stunlock her while you slam her with big damage, if she tries to do her super move it is probably best to stun bomb her out of it. The most popular way of dodging Celestial Star if she manages to get it off is to run to the lower right area until you see the light burst on the lower left, you run there and wait until you see another burst to the lower right, where you run back to where you started. For BT purposes, the invincible Fayt strategy is recommended for Galaxy. Her attack power is slightly higher than Lenneth’s, requiring 4000 defense nullify her attacks. Ethereal Queen has a bit more HP so it’ll take some more Air Raids to kill her, but it won’t be too bad. Her AAA will also reflect damage so minor attacks are not recommended unless you are sure her Fury is not full. For Universe you need a defense above 4000 + Protection; you cannot nullify her damage without additional spell support. The battle here plays out very much like the previous battle with Lenneth. I used Cliff to stunlock while Maria blasted her with Energy Bursts and I hid in a corner healing and stunbombing. Since Ethereal Queen does not use symbology you can use that accessory slot to equip another BoP to boost defense, or a Tri-Emblem to boost attack. For 4D, it works almost the same way. By now you should have guessed that her damage cannot be negated, so you’ll need to suck it up with your tank again. Make sure you keep up with casting Protection since a mishap will probably mean that he/she dies. You should feed your tank and Maria a refined Medicine Bottle so they don’t get paralyzed. The only problem you’ll might have is when Maria decides to be dumb and run in to melee leading to her dying repeatedly. You can either keep on resurrecting her in hopes that Cliff pulls EQ away or that she gets smart and moves away (very slim chance). The sure way is to pop Cliff with a Shielding Device/Roe Tablet to make him invincible and move him away manually, then resurrect Maria. If you are not after the no damage BTs you can probably suck it up and move him away without shielding him. For specific configurations I used exactly the same setup as for Lenneth except I switched out the Blazing Pendants and gave Cliff a refined Ring of Mental Power (see previous section for details). After you defeat her, all enemies will be removed from the Sphere, so you can double back and get anything you missed. Additionally, you will receive the Angel Orb necessary to fight Freya. You can always fight her multiple times so don’t worry about reloading. 3.3.30 Freya [BT3330] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Freya (#165) Defeat Freya Without Taking Damage (#166) Defeat Freya within 15 Minutes (#167) Defeat Freya at Universe (#168) Defeat Freya at Universe Without Taking Damage (#169) Defeat Freya at Universe within 20 Minutes (#170) Defeat Freya at 4D (#171) Defeat Freya at 4D Without Taking Damage (#172) Defeat Freya at 4D within 60 Minutes (#173) Defeat Freya Alone (#217) Defeat Freya 5 Times (#276) Difficulty : Hard Boss Stats : Gal: 20,000,000 HP / 3,000,000 MP Uni: 30,000,000 HP / 4,500,000 MP 4D : 60,000,000 HP / 9,000,000 MP Rec Level : Lv255 Credit : durias42 Take the Angel Orb you got from Ethereal Queen to Crosell’s lair in the Urssa Lava Caves to fight the hardest boss in the game. Freya is very much a beefed up version of Lenneth in many respects. She has brutal multi-hit normal attacks, more HP, and Ether Strike which is like NV but stronger. For Galaxy level, you can still use the invincible Fayt strategy though you’ll require over 5000 to negate her attacks. You will also need to equip a blazing pendant absorbing Wind and Earth so her Symbology doesn’t hurt you. Chances is that with only 9x BoP you will be slightly shy of the 5k defense mark, so what you will need to do is grab all the Defense+ berries in Sphere and feed them to Fayt. They are on levels 111, 125, 129, 135, 164, 168, 182, 192, 198, and 201. After that, the fight is simple, make sure you don’t get AAAed and heal when you need to for a simple (although time consuming win). For Universe, you can still negate her damage, but only if you use Protection. Like the previous boss fight, I recommend using Cliff with Fists of Fury to stunlock, Maria with Energy Burst and Sophia in the corner as buffer and healer. If you control the healer, you can afford to put 10x BoP on your tank and shift your blazing pendant your long range caster. Even so, at times Freya will decide she wants to kill a certain person even if it involves running across the entire map. If she is positioned too close to the middle she will clip you if she manages to get off Ether Strike so be very diligent in knocking her out of it. It is recommended that you IC some Roe Tablets before the fight incase you need to make your character temporary invincible to avoid damage. For the 4D fight, you cannot negate her and Protection does not do a lot to reduce damage. If she scores an attack on you, it will probably kill you; if she hits you with Ether Strike, you are toast you for sure. The strategy to use here is quite similar to previous boss fights except with a novel twist proposed by durias42 in his Assault Magic FAQ. I have made slight tweaks to make the battle go more smoothly. The battle is the very similar routine of running Cliff up to tank while Maria does her Energy Burst thing and you hide in the corner spamming spells. The major difference is that instead of letting the tank fight, you set him/her on manual so he or she does nothing. While this doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense, the intent is that all of Freya’s weak attacks will get AAAed setting her up to get hit by Energy Burst. Surprisingly she will stun herself quite often letting you get in lots of free hits. It is advisable to also be chaining Thunder Flares with Sophia to keep her locked into place and to reduce the number of attacks that she does. Protection does very little here so I would recommend concentrating on stunlocking instead. The problem of course is when she decides to not use a weak attack, namely her paralyzing beam of doom. When you see her starting up the beam attack, use a Shielding Device or Roe Tablet on your tank immediately to nullify the damage. This routine can be repeated until she is almost dead and starts spamming Ether Strike like crazy. This is when you should try to keep your tank permanently invincible through using Shielding Device/Roe Tablet’s every 30 seconds. You should stop chaining Thunder Flares at this point because you’ll have your hands full stun bombing Ether Strike and resurrecting Maria. After another couple minutes of more hectic mass revival you should have won. To explain some finer details, this battle is slightly more complex in that your tank doesn’t actually move so you need to manually position him or her every couple minutes. The ideal way to do this is wait until Maria is in the middle of an Energy Blast (say 40% Fury left), feed your tank a Shielding Device or Roe Tablet then move him or her to the opposite side of Freya compared to where Maria is. To draw a crude diagram: X O x (Maria) (Freya) (Tank) If you bunch the tank and Maria on the same side, Stone Rain and the paralyzing laser of doom will hit you both. If your tank dies and Maria doesn’t, it is advisable to cast Restoration then use a Shielding Device (while you heal) as compared to using a resurrection item; it is much cleaner and avoids Freya killing you repeatedly. If Maria decides to go melee, she will most definitely die, so once again, shield your tank and move him away while you resurrect Maria. As some final tips, Freya will paralyze you like EQ, so take refined Medicine Bottles at the start of the battle. Also stun bomb whenever Ether Strike shows up even though if it looks like she may be knocked out of it, better to be safe than sorry. It is always preferable to stun bomb with Sophia compared to your tank although he/she is doing nothing because there is a small chance that Ether Strike will nail you in the split second between you using a bomb and the attack connecting (thus ruining your no damage BT). A high level First Aid, Fairy Light, Restoration, and Energy Burst are highly recommended though not necessary. If you have spare berries, feed them to your characters to try to max HP and MP if possible to prolong their life. I did this fight a couple times and used about two dozen invincibility items, two dozen stun bombs and a dozen resurrecting items each time. Good luck! Lastly, although you can fight Freya multiple times each game, you may not wish to do so on higher difficulties instead opting to reload because it expends a fair number of items which is annoying to replace. Therefore for the defeat Freya 5 times BT, I suggest racking up a couple kills on Galaxy so you don’t need to do it on higher levels where it is more item intensive. 3.3.31 Urssa Lava Temple [BT3331] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat the Princess and the Knight (#277) Defeat Villain Pair (#278) Defeat Tiger-Striped Pair (#279) Defeat Daughter of the Beast Tamer (#280) Defeat the Princess and the Knight Alone (#282) Defeat Villain Pair Alone (#283) Defeat Tiger-Striped Pair Alone (#284) Defeat Daughter of the Beast Tamer Alone (#285) Defeat the Princess and the Knight Without Taking Damage (#287) Defeat Villain Pair Without Taking Damage (#288) Defeat Tiger-Striped Pair Without Taking Damage (#289) Defeat Daughter of the Beast Tamer Without Taking Damage (#290) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : Roughly - Fight 1: 225k (main), 125k (sidekick) Roughly – Fight 2: 500k (main), 250k (sidekick) Rec Level : Lv150 After you beat Luther, you can head to the Urssa Lava Temple if you go in the little cave to the upper right of Crosell’s Lair. Here you will fight the optional characters that you did NOT pick during your journey. The princess is Nel, the villain is Albel, the daughter is Peppita, and tiger-striped is Roger. In addition, they each have their own sidekick to help them out. You will have two battles with these imposters with the first fight being easier than the second. If you only chose one optional character, the game will randomly choose two of the three you did not take for you to fight against. Although you can head here directly after Luther (ie, before MoT), I recommended holding off on these bosses until after you have beat Sphere and the other super bosses. The reason is that you can only fight each of these bosses once and that these BTs are tough to do at a lower level. If you follow this strategy then all these fights will be ridiculously easy compared to what you just went through. You want to solve the puzzle in the first main chamber, then kill off two of your party members and save in the first room of the Temple. Then go into the first battle with only your uber defense buffed character (Fayt probably) and lay waste to the duo. After you win, reload and repeat the process until you have earned three trophies (defeat, no damage, solo) against each of the optional characters you did not pick. For obvious reasons you cannot get all these BTs on one playthrough, so make sure you pick different characters in subsequent games so you get to fight all of them! 3.3.32 Fayt [BT3332] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Fayt (#281) Defeat Fayt Alone (#286) Defeat Fayt Without Taking Damage (#291) Defeat Fayt at Universe (#292) Defeat Fayt at 4D (#293) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : Gal: 700,000 HP / 70,000 MP (pre); 1,000,000 HP / 100,000 MP (post) Uni: 1,050,000 HP / 105,000 MP (pre); 1,500,000 HP / 150,000 MP (post) 4-d: 1,505,000 HP / 150,500 MP (pre); 2,300,000 HP / 230,000 MP (post) Rec Level : Lv255 Fayt is the final boss of the Urssa Lava Temple and is quite a bit tougher than your previous battles. This battle is special in that his sidekick is going whoever he is partnered with in the game ending. If you got the solo ending then his partner will be Luther. He also differs in that if you beat the Maze of Tribulations, (if you defeated Gabriel) he gets a stat boost to be more challenging. Unfortunately his stat boost is inconsequential compared to your power after wrapping Sphere and he will die easily just like the previous boss battles. There is a slight caveat in that you will not be protected from Symbology which could mean trouble if Fayt is partnered up with Adray or Sophia. Random characters like using Southern Cross, Lightning Strike etc on a whim as well. It shouldn’t be too bad if you maxed your attack though since you’ll probably kill them quick enough. For Universe and 4D this is simplified since you only need to defeat him normally, and there are no other special BTs. The Universe fight will still be very easy with damage negation in play. 4D is harder since Protection may be required for complete immunity, though your tank should be able to suck up a lot of punishment even without it. Like all Urssa Lava Temple fights, this is a one time fight so make sure you save before incase you need to reload for more BTs. 3.3.33 Albel with Items [BT3333] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Win Using Only items (#196) Defeat Albel 1 With Items Only (#197) Defeat Albel 2 With Items Only (#198) Defeat Albel 3 With Items Only (#199) Difficulty : Moderate Boss Stats : Albel 1 Gal: 26,000 HP / 2,600 MP Uni: 39,000 HP / 3,900 MP 4D : 47,060 HP / 4,706 MP Albel 2 (Available on disc 2, before Sphere) Gal: 50,000 HP / 10,000 MP Uni: 75,000 HP / 15,000 MP 4D : 91,000 HP / 18,500 MP Albel 3 (Available after Sphere, but before retrieving Orb) Gal: 120,000 HP / 60,000 MP Uni: 180,000 HP / 90,000 MP 4D : 223,200 HP / 126,000 MP The premise for these BTs is pretty simple, you must defeat the various forms of Albel using only items. Because he has less MP than HP, conventional wisdom is to defeat him using MP damage dealing items. These fights have strict time limits and if you do not do them, you cannot try them again until the next playthrough so be conscious of the fact. Albel 1 is a mandatory battle after you get the Copper from the mine. Albel 2 is optional once you return back to Elicoor II from Gemity, but you must beat him before you enter the Sphere for the first time. Albel 3 is optional between the period of going to the Sphere the first time and getting the Sacred Orb to enter the Firewall. Fight Albel 2 and Albel 3 is contingent on you not choosing him as your seventh character (your first optional) since you obviously cannot fight him if he’s part of your party. The bulk of the work here is actually creating enough bombs to kill Albel. Below I’ll list out the various MP bomb types, and a sample of three inventors and the associated base cost to aim for if you wanted to make the item. If you are confused about the entire item creation process, refer to the entry in the FAQ section explaining it. If you want to use different inventors, use my Item Creation Calclator (http://aerius.atspace.com/so3ic.html) to determine the values. Newer version (2014): http://pendell.atspace.cc/so3ic.html Notes for charts below: ‘Ex’ is used to abbreviate Explosive For inventors: F=Fayt, C=Cliff, R=Roger, V=Vanilla, M=Mirage, I=Izak, A=Maria Probabilities assume you have NC Program Disc for Albel 2 and 3 Mind Bombs overlap with Flare Bombs EM MP Bombs overlap with their HP version ES Hybrids overlap with nothing Albel 1: It is recommended you just make half a dozen or so EM Bomb MPs to deal with Albel’s first form, the more advanced bombs are likely just to cause a lot of frustration. However, it is recommended that you make 10 EM Stun MPs instead because they are more valuable and reusable at later stages of the game. Either way it doesn’t matter too much, any combination works as long as you can deal an amount greater than Albel’s MP. Albel 3 on Galaxy has a pretty substantial 60,000 MP so you’ll need to craft some powerful bombs. I suggest making 20 ES Hybrid Explosives (20x2500 = 50,000) and 7 ES Hybrid Bombs (7x1500 = 10,500) to deal enough damage. You might have enough bombs left over from previous fights to skimp a bit if you want but you’ll probably want to have spare stun bombs (all Hybrid styles stun as well) for boss fights later in the game. Name | Damage | Prob | Invent | Values ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mind Bomb | 200 | 137% | C,M,I | 62-65 EM Bomb MP | 600 | 122% | C,M,I | 55-58 EM Ex MP | 400 | 112% | C,M,I | 163,165,177 EM Stun Bomb MP | 1000 | 102% | C,M,I | 82-90 EM Stun Ex MP | 500 | 92% | C,M,I | 190,192,194,196,198,200,203,205 ES Hybrid Bomb | 1500 | 82% | C,M,I | 208,210,213-231 ES Hybrid Ex | 2500 | 72% | C,M,I | 388-431 Deadly Mind Bomb | 600 | 63% | C,V,I | 231,242,246,248,250 Lastly, it is recommended that you reload after beating Albel each time so you can use all your MP bombs again for future fights. Fighting him on Galaxy is the easiest since his MP is roughly half as what it would be on 4D, requiring much fewer bombs. 3.3.34 Mighty Vox [BT3334] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Mighty Vox (#176) Get Item From Mighty Vox (#177) Guard Against Mighty Vox (#178) Emit Anti-Attack Aura against Mighty Vox (#179) Break Mighty Vox's guard (#180) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : Gal: 455,000 HP / 50,000 MP Rec Level : Lv85 Mighty Vox is a mandatory boss on floor 6 in the Maze of Tribulations. Why he is special enough to have BTs associated with him is unknown, but all of the trophies are very easy to get. When the battle starts you run around until he hits you with a weak attack triggering a guard, and causing you to emit an AAA. If it’s set to standard you will stun him, which causes you to break his guard when you hit him out of it. After you beat him down you will get the defeat BT and finally you are guaranteed a shiny 1/1 Bunny (which you should drop immediately) afterwards. The only thing that can go wrong is if you kill him too fast before you realize that you needed to guard against him. 3.3.35 Defeat x with y Only [BT3335] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Win Using Only Minor Attacks (#184) Defeat Luther Using Only Minor Attacks (#185) Defeat Ethereal Queen Using Only Minor Attacks (#186) Defeat Freya Using Only Minor Attacks (#187) Win Using Only Major Attacks (#188) Defeat Luther Using Only Major Attacks (#189) Defeat Gabriel Using Only Major Attacks (#190) Defeat Lenneth Using Only Major Attacks (#191) Win Using Only Anti-Attack Auras (#192) Defeat Luther Using Only Anti-Attack Auras (#193) Defeat Gabriel Using Only Anti-Attack Auras (#194) Defeat Ethereal Queen Using Only Anti-Attack Auras (#195) Win Using Only Symbology (#200) Defeat Luther Using Only Symbology (#201) Defeat Gabriel Using Only Symbology (#202) Defeat Lenneth Using Only Symbology (#203) Win Using Only Charge (#204) Defeat Luther Using Only Charge (#205) Defeat Gabriel Using Only Charge (#206) Defeat Lenneth Using Only Charge (#207) Win Using Only Battle Skills (#208) Defeat Luther Using Only Battle Skills (#209) Defeat Ethereal Queen Using Only Battle Skills (#210) Defeat Freya Using Only Battle Skills (#211) Difficulty : Moderate Credit : EChang There are a whole bunch of these types of BTs that require you to only use a certain aspect of the battle system to defeat major bosses. All of these work in the same way and none of which are that hard to do. It is highly recommended that you attempt these on the Galaxy difficulty with the uber defense Fayt setup as outlined in 3.3.28 to obtain these BTs. The magical number here is 50. That is, you require 50 minor attacks (X), 50 major attacks (O), 50 hits from AAAs, 50 symbology spells, 50 charges, or 50 battle skills. So this is how it works, you enter a battle, control Fayt and perform the necessary number of actions, then you switch to a dead ally while you let AI Fayt kill the boss by himself. Because you are technically doing nothing on a dead character, the conditions of the BT will still hold. It is almost necessary to use a Decrepit on Fayt so he learns Common Support Symbols so he can heal himself. Sometimes Fayt will be dumb and kill himself due to AAA, but there is nothing you can do about that. To go into each of the types into more detail: Minor Attacks – Any normal attack with X. It would be wise to remove all battle skills from the X buttons so you don’t use them by mistake. Don’t kill yourself getting AAAed. Major Attacks – Any normal attack with O. Remove battle skills from O buttons for safety reasons. Anti-Attack Aura – Use Wide-Homing as your AAA type so you get 4 hits for every guard, this cuts it down to roughly a dozen AAAs to met the requirement. Symbology – Cast 50 spells that damage the boss. Gabriel can be annoying in that he makes you parry interrupting your casting. For this BT I switched between two characters and casted spells with each so at least one would hit him. You need a combined number of castings above 50 for this to count. Charge – Technically Charge is a battle skill, but it doesn’t count as one here. I recommend putting it on Short O so you don’t get AAAed. Battle Skills – Any battle skill on Short O (other than Charge) works well. You may have trouble killing Luther like this because he will likely not survive 50 hits from your buffed characters. If you were smart and synthesized your 8x BoP on a laser weapon, it should be trivial to move it to a weaker character with lower attack. As some additional information and tips; you can use any items you want as long as it does not damage the enemy, thus Duck-Duck stun bombs and healing items are ok. You can also use tactical skills like Scan Enemy and Taunt without it counting against anything. Equipping different items is also fine if you want to change your defense value on the fly. Changing characters is fine (even to dead ones), but if you switch to someone as they are in the middle of an attack it will count as you doing it breaking your streak. It is recommended that you start the battle with your allies already dead so they don’t mess with your fight, then pop a Might Tablet when you switch off into a dead party member to let the AI finish off the boss. Luther fights are very annoying because you will have to physically reset the PS2 after every fight and Lenneth can only be defeated once per game, so reload if necessary. Lastly, don’t be too stingy meeting the requirements, doing 60 or 70 of each is better than you counting wrong and only doing 49. 3.3.36 Metal Pipe Only [BT3336] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Win Using Only Metal Pipe (#218) Defeat Norton Using Only Metal Pipe (#219) Damage With Attack 99,999 Using Only Metal Pipe (#220) Defeat Luther Using Only Metal Pipe (#221) Defeat Lenneth Using Only Metal Pipe (#222) Difficulty : Moderate Credit : EChang These are all fairly self-explanatory; you have to perform certain tasks with your very first weapon in the game. The only real trick here is that when they say ‘only,’ it means that your other party members need to be dead before the battle starts. The fact that they did nothing in a battle will not get you the BTs. This means that that you cannot get the defeat Norton trophy at the very start of the game because Cliff starts with you and there is no way to stop that. Instead, you must defeat Norton Redux (Sphere Floor 101) alone with your metal pipe. You can only fight him once, so get it right the first time. The other BTs are pretty straightforward. In order to beef up your puny metal pipe, you essentially need to synthesize 8x Boots of Prowess on it. You will need the defense since you will be soloing Lenneth. For the Norton fight this might be tough coming up with so much cash to do so, and an alternative is just to synthesize lots of +500 ATKs or the Imposing Scroll (+1000 ATK) you win from Rank S Solo Battle at the Gemity Arena. Just have a save before then so you can reload to the virgin metal pipe for BoPing later. The 99,999 damage BT can be accomplished through any attack. The easiest way is probably just to cancel into a 200% Dimension Door (Weak X -> Battle Skill X -> Dimension Door O) since the last hit deals a ton of damage. It is possible to cancel Dimension Door even higher if that doesn’t do it. Feel free to use a Might Tablet and Berserk to boost damage, or a Reducer to lower the target’s defense. Alternatively you can apply an ice effect on your metal pipe (Ice Blade or synthesize a water gem) and do a Long O normal attack vs one of the fire enemies in the Urssa Lava Cave as proposed by EChang. 3.3.37 Scumbags [BT3337] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Defeat Mecha Scumbag (#225) Defeat Lv99 Thieving Scumbag (#226) Difficulty : Easy These are not really bosses, but normal enemies that are somewhat annoying because they run away when they are almost dead. Mecha Scumbags are found in the Maze of Tribulations Floor 2 and Lv99 Thieving Scumbags are found around floor 160 of Sphere. You will likely get these anyway through natural gameplay if you don’t run from them all, but if you are having trouble use the Scumbag Slayer (Rank B Team battle at Gemity) to instantly kill them off. The Scumbag slayer doesn’t seem to insta-kill 100% of the time, but if you use something that hits a lot of times like Fists of Fury it shouldn’t be a problem. 3.3.38 Sooties [BT3338] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTs Covered : Encounter Sootie (#227) Defeat Sootie (#228) Difficulty : Easy Boss Stats : 468,000 HP / 47,800 MP The most adorable and loved critter in all of Star Ocean! (yeah right). The Sootie is a mandatory fight in the Maze of Tribulations Floor 7 so the first BT is easy to get. The second one is slightly harder because sooties like to blow up when they are low on life. Don’t worry if you didn’t manage to kill the one in MoT because there is an unlimited supply to kill in the Sphere later. There is nothing especially tricky about these guys otherwise, just kill them like you would kill any other enemy. ============================================================================= - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - [SEC4] ============================================================================= Q. You keep on talking about Item Creation (IC), how does it work? [FAQ001] A. IC is how you make items in the game. When you first reach Peterny go to the Crafter’s Guild by the Inn and sign up. From this point onwards you can go into any workshop and make items. To start the process buy a production line for 1000g if the workshop does not have one, then select and move three inventors into the line. It is advisable that you choose inventors with the highest skill in that specific craft (press triangle to view skill). Select the type of item you want to make in the box to the right, and finally what type of task you want to complete. Original Creation means that your creator team will attempt to make a completely new item, Specify Plan means you want to alter an existing item (also referred to as Refining). Press the square button to start the line and for every iteration that the line fills the box you make one attempt to do the task you set the inventors to do. You must press X and stop the top line manually before it runs out or you will get nothing. For more details check out the various IC FAQs. Q. What are these (base cost) numbers you keep on listing? A. In the Item Creation screen, if you continually reselect Original Creation the game will give you a different number next to it each time. Every item in the game has a specific number that you should be refreshing for if you want to make that item and not something totally random. The number is manipulated in many ways by the game taking into account other items you have, the inventors you use and mathematical formulas thus why I listed out what you should be looking for to save you time. If you want to make items with other inventors check out my IC calculator at http://aerius.atspace.com/so3ic.html as a reference point. A newer version updated by Brian Pendell (2014): http://pendell.atspace.cc/so3ic.html Q. I am having trouble refining Boots of Prowess, help! A. This item is notorious for taking forever to do. I suggest farming Biochimeras (Floor 10 Spiral Tower) or Tyrant Renders (Floor 7 Maze of Tribulations) for some serious cash before trying to do so. The refining odds for the 10% -> 30% transformation is quite low and you can be expected to spend upwards of 500k for every BoP on average. If you have tons of money (check out the Money Making FAQ), set the inventors to Stanice, Adray and Balbados to make the process much faster (though more expensive). Q. I can’t get my Blazing Pendant to absorb Earth/Wind, help! A. To explain it without the theory, first you save your game then go refine your pendant twice (successfully). Examine the item and it should have a single ‘Recover HP of 1/20 dmg from earth attacks’ factor on it. If it doesn’t, reload the game; otherwise, save the game. Now refine the pendant once more in hopes of getting a second factor called ‘Recover HP of 1/20 dmg from wind attacks’. Reload and try again until you have the two factors. To learn exactly how this works check out durias42’s Original Creation FAQ. Q. I don’t understand how to make this ‘uber Fayt’ [FAQ002] A. Through Item Creation you are trying to raise Fayt’s defense to such a high level that he is immune to even the strongest attacks helping you get BTs easier. First get his ultimate armor from Sphere (Valiant Mail), then refine it repeatedly until it has 8x +20 Defense factors. Next, you want to create 10x fully refined (+30% ATK/DEF) Boots of Prowess (Crafting item of roughly 2000 base cost). Then you want to Synthesize 8 of these onto a weapon without any other factors on it (meaning you cannot use post-game weapons). A laser weapon is an excellent choice since anyone can use it. If you are fighting Freya or Lenneth you want to equip a Blazing Pendant on one slot and a ninth BoP on the second accessory slot. Other fights you can use 2x BoP or a BoP and a Tri-Emblem or whatever you want. Against Freya you will likely need to feed Fayt all of the Defense+ Berries in the game to break the 5000 DEF mark. They are on levels 111, 125, 129, 135, 164, 168, 182, 192, 198, and 201 of Sphere. You can massively boost the defense of any character like this, but Fayt is ideal because his base value is the highest. Q. Your boss section sucks, I’m not using Fayt so it doesn’t help A. Sorry, but this couldn’t be avoided if I wanted to keep this FAQ to a reasonable length (it’s already too long imo). I talked to a couple people and they all Fayt on their first playthrough, so I figured it was the best bet out of anyone. Not to mention side kick spamming is so effective and easy that anyone can do it! For more boss help, refer to the more detailed Boss FAQs by of Echang/Marty81. Q. I can’t beat x boss under 1 minute! A. The best way to maximize damage output is to chain battle skills repeatedly until they are at a high multiplier, so make sure you are doing that. Side Kick is recommended because as a 2 CP skill, you can put it on all four battle skill slots (short X, long X, short O, long O). Once the battle starts press and hold X until Fayt enters the animation, then press and hold O until he starts another kicking animation at which point you press and hold X and so forth. This can be used with any skill pretty much. To further increase damage, turn on Berserk if you can since it will allow you to do longer chains. Also take a refined Might Tablet at the start of the battle for a big boost in ATK strength. For speed fights you should always save before hand so you can use Magical/Perfect berries to heal so you cut down healing downtime to a minimum (and reload after). If all that fails you, there are a couple options. Firstly, you can go level up so you take and deal more damage. Leveling up the battle skills also raise their damage. Alternatively, you can just buy or make better weapons. Although discouraged for challenge reasons, you can reasonably make and synthesize Orichalcum (Alchemy item) on your weapon to basically mow through all normal-game bosses. Lastly, getting these trophies is highly recommended on Galaxy level since it is substantially harder on higher difficulties (especially earlier bosses). Q. Any advice of getting no damage trophies? A. The simplest way is just to move your character away from the fight and not get into the fray. I obtained all of these BTs by controlling Nel and going to the opposite side of the battlefield. I healed the AI and let them do all the work until the boss died. While this doesn’t work too well in Universe and 4D difficulties, it is quite easy to do on Galaxy. You might need to level up a bit at certain points so your AI teammates don’t get slaughtered. Some bosses have very annoying spells that can hit you anywhere and unfortunately there isn’t a lot you can do about it. Some spells you can sidestep away from and many others you can run from. At a last resort you can refine some blazing pendants to absorb spell damage, but that’s probably overkill. Just be persistent and keep on trying. For fights against multiple enemies you will probably have to feint (run close to them then run away as they start their attack) while you run away. Do not try to engage the enemy unless you are reasonably sure they won’t hit you. In such cases heal with items because it is faster than healing with symbology. For post-game super bosses, it is advisable to use the ‘uber Fayt’ strategy as outlined above. For specific strategies on higher difficulties for these bosses refer to the relevant section in the main FAQ. Q. Can I get both the under 1 minute and no damage BTs together? A. Yes you can, though it will be pretty hard for the bulk of bosses since you’ll be in the midst of battle. I suggest doing the boss reloading trick. Basically you should save your game before every fight, then you can keep on trying over and over to get different BTs on different fights. The main advantage of this is that you can get the under 1 minute and no damage BTs playing through the game only once. It also has the benefit of allowing you use rare healing items and such on your speed fights since you can just reload for a more conservative win afterwards anyway. Q. How do I access the goodies unlocked by collecting BTs? [FAQ003] A. If you load your battle trophies previous to starting a new game, you will be presenting the option of starting a Universe/4D game if you have collected the requisite number of BTs. Additional costumes can be seen and used by pressing triangle on the character status screen. The music test is accessed after you load your battle trophies by pressing square. To use FAM you’ll need to start a new game (unfortunetly), but then you can toggle whether it is active or not in the Config menu. Q. This is taking forever, how long does it take to get all the BTs? A. To get absolutely all the BTs will take you no less than 500 hours (realistically probably 600-700). If you ignore the ridiculous ones like 50,000 battles etc you can get them all in around 250 hours. I highly recommend using Marty81’s ‘quick walkthrough’ posted in the stickied thread on the GameFAQ forums to finish subsequent playthroughs in an efficient manner. Q. Who are the best characters? A. Well, there is quite a wide range on opinions on who is better and such, but I’ll try to give a quick rundown on respective strengths and weaknesses. Fayt – Excellent defensively with a couple of marquee battle skills (Side Kick/Air Raid) that will last through most of the main-game. A number of BTs require you to use him specifically so you will be forced to use him somewhat. Late game his damage output is lacking and an average character (except if you use him as ‘Uber Fayt’) Cliff – Good defense though lacking offensively until he gets Max Shockwave post game. His unparalleled stunlocking ability with Fists of Fury makes him a personal favorite on higher level post game fights. Maria – Maria is the damage champ hands down. While Nel on certain occasions can dethrone her, Maria is capable of steady damage output while putting herself at little risk. While you can easily substitute other characters post-game, Maria makes everything so effortless that it is hard to not take her. Energy Burst absolutely owns post-game and is indispensable in quickly taking out the super bosses on higher difficulties. Sophia – Excellent support character though she won’t set any damage records. She is useful because she has decent speed, a strong multi-hit standard attack and all the (useful) spells. Her outfits are also the best! Adray – The bastard child character. He does a little bit of everything but is master of none, making it hard to choose him over anyone else. Of course if you love the crazy old guy who wears a skirt, you can make him work in your party regardless. Mirage – Almost a clone of Cliff though the absence of Fists of Fury severely limits her stunlocking capabilities. She has a good mixture of melee moves that allow her to exceed Cliff’s damage output for most of the game. Nel – Natural healing, fast speed, mix of HP/MP short/long ranged attacks and amazing damage define Nel. She is awesome in the main-game but is less useful postgame due to a horrendous AI, attacks that aren’t really team friendly and elementally aligned skills. She is very powerful if played correctly though. Albel – The master of juggling who is capable of dealing fairly substantial MP damage during the main game. Relatively weak attacks coupled with a lackluster AI make him one of my less favorite characters though he can be a force to be reckoned with at the hands of an experienced player. Peppita – A fun character to play since she has skills quite different from other characters. Her strengths are moves that deal pretty spectacular damage and a counter-attack that is probably the best in the game. Her flaws are that her AI isn’t too great and most of her moves have a massive start-up period meaning you’ll probably get smoked unless you have a decoy. In all, a tough one to rate; some will live and die by her, I merely find her to be an interesting diversion when I get bored of spamming Energy Burst. Roger – He has a couple of strong attacks such as Charge which makes him fairly powerful early on, but he quickly loses utility post-game. Average damage, average defense, lack of stunlocking skills, and long start-up times for his stronger skills makes him tough to fit in with a party since doesn’t really match up with any of the defined roles. In all, these are my personal options and my best attempt to be unbiased. I’m sure someone will disagree and that’s fine, this is no means an exhaustive description and I do not wish to enter in a heated argument on who the best character is. Q. Dude, your level estimates are off! I beat x boss at level 2 !@!!1!! A. This FAQ is tailored to be realistic for the average gamer on their first playthrough. In a game such as SO3 there is a disparity in skill and I do not assume that everyone is a master. If my level estimates are too high for you, ignore them as you proceed through the game. Q. How come you say to use Aiming Device -> Energy Burst chains? Magnetic Field is much better! A. It’s a matter of preference. Magnetic Field will allow for more hits of Energy Burst, but the move itself will probably hit nothing. I like Aiming Device because it can interrupt bosses by throwing them up and it will almost always deal about two hits worth of Energy Burst damage. It also allows you to use more skills such as Common Support Symbols, Max Fury, or Increase Stamina. In the end, use whatever you want, everything in this FAQ are suggestions afterall. Q. Your setups only use half of your slots on your weapons, why? A. I’m a bit anal about putting something on my weapons that I’ll regret later, so I have a bad habit of not using my ultimate weapons to their full potential. Some good factors to fill up your weapons include: +30% Speed, 30% HP/MP damage negation, -3 Fury Use, +30% ATK/DEF (BoP), +20% MP, 6% Mana Regeneration, +30% Int, etc. The Maximization FAQ has some good suggestions on how to setup your weapons otherwise. Q. How come you aren’t posting my lv1 Sophia Gutsy Bunny, unarmed, playing while blindfolded with my feet strategy for 4D Freya for the no damage BT?! A. There are a lot of ways to earn the BTs in this game. I am inclined to only include methods that are relatively painless to everyone rather than specialized scenarios that may not be applicable to the majority. Perhaps your extreme skill would better be demonstrated if you wrote a Boss FAQ that is targeted towards a more specific audience. Q. The IC Calculator/77,777 Calculator doesn’t work, help! A. Have you tried using a new version of Internet Explorer? I can only promise that it works on IE though it should work fine on other types. Q. I don’t have a dedicated connection, can I save the calculators? A. Sure thing. Go to File -> Save As..., choose the folder you want then hit save. Navigate to where you saved it and double click on the file to launch it locally. Q. I’m going to sue you for stealing my strategy! A. I tried to credit everyone with their respective contributions, but I missed you feel free to contact me and let me know. Also be realistic that if your ‘strategy’ is not too complex, I could have thought of it independently. If I have credited you with something and you want your name removed or changed, I will certainly oblige. If you want your tip removed, I will try my best to accommodate that as well. Q. This FAQ sucks; you just copied other people’s strategies! A. That was partially the intent of this FAQ, to condense knowledge into one file relevant to the North American release of the game. I’d like to think I made some contributions in this FAQ but if you do not agree, no one is forcing you to use it. Q. How can I contribute my own strategy? A. Drop me an email at aerius@beyond.ca with the tip. Please start the subject line with “FAQ:” without the quotes so it gets filtered properly. Although I guarantee I will read your email I cannot promise that it will get included. As I mentioned above, I am looking for only very simple ways to accomplish the BTs. Of course this means that your suggestion couple could replace the existing strategy if it is superior. ============================================================================= - CREDITS - [SEC5] ============================================================================= EChang – Tons of the strategies in this FAQ were originally derived in his version.
