-- Genso Suikoden IV -- -- Demo FAQ -- -- By Kouli {aka Ken Zhao, kenzhao99@yahoo.com} -- -- Version 0.1 -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The demo comes from Dengeki PS2 Volume 278. Since Dengeki PS2 is a popular Japanese magazine, which makes this demo in Japanese by default. Where can I get Degenki PS2 Volume 278 (D70), you might ask. If you live in Japan, you can easily get it. If you live outside Japan currently like myself, then you could try this site: www.mangaoh.co.jp That's the site I used. You have to free order from them as well. To do that, you need to be able to read and write Japanese. If you can't and have trouble with free ordering from them, contact me if you wish. I could try to help you out in one way or another. The above is a Japanese site, if you want an English site, you might want to try out www.akadotretail.com You probably need to special order it from them. Since they have to get it from Japan and then ship to you, ultimately it takes much longer time than the above site. But it's your choice. Now to actually play it, I would recommend you to get a Japanese PS2. That's what I have and it works perfectly. To get a Japanese PS2, you might want to try out these sites: www.ncsx.com www.play-asia.com www.liksang.com www.japanesevideogames.com Get a Japanese PS2 just for a demo probably not worth it, unless you already have one, and plan to get the Japanese Version of Gensou Suikoden IV, then the demo is worthy to get. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Put the DVD that comes with the magazine in your PS2. Wait for it to load, once you are at the main menu, since the cursor is at Gensou Suikoden IV by dafault, so you don't need to do anything but pressing Circle. Then a sub menu shows up and first one is 'Taikenban' which implies Demo, the second option is 'Movie'. Obviously you pick the first option. The menu just talks about general details of the game, press Circle again to see the controls. Left Stick - Character and cursor movement Right Stick - Camera Movement D-Pad - Character and cursor movement Circle - Action/Confirm X - Cancel Square - Open menu R1 - Hold down for fast dash R2 - Toogle between map views L1 - Change views / Confirm(Battle only) L2 - Cancel(Battle only) Press Circle again to start. Press Circle again to select 'NEW GAME', that's the only option that's given anyway. Then you are to adjust the vibration, ON or OFF, whatever you want. Press Circle to make the choice. After that, you are quickly taken into a cut scene where the shujinkou/hero and co will meet a water creature popping out of the water while they are on a ship. Then it's battle time. You have 4 members in battle, the shujinkou and 3 allies. Each has their HP and Rune at display, along with a picture of the character. As for the battle menu, you got: Tatakau(Fight) Nigeru(Escape) Okane(Money) Zenin(All Members) Omakase(Entrust to AI) If you select Tatakau, you can input the command for each member, then you have these menus: Kougeki(Attack) Bougyo(Defend) Monshou(Rune) Dougu(Item) Kyouryoku(Cooperation) For Kougeki, you can select the water creature which is named as Water Dragon. As for my team, I got the shujinkou, Chiipuu, Jueru and Taru. The three allies you get seems to be random. But anyway, for the shujinkou, he's got a Fire Rune at his right hand and his true rune, Rune of Punishment at the left hand. For the Fire Rune, there are: Flame Arrow - 100 damage to one enemy Dancing Flame - 150 damage to all enemies Flame Burst Wall - 300 damage to all enemies Great Explosion - 500 damage to all enemies For the shujinkou's Punishment Rune, there are only two spells: The Eternal Trial Two-Edged Sword As for Item, you got 99 Herb and 5 Alarm Clock of Jizou. Once you select the movement for each members, confirm it and the fight takes place. Do remember due to the nature of the Punishment Rune, it sucks out your main character's HP as well. The shujinkou can just attack with the Fire Rune Level 4 spell, others can either cast support magic or attack. After the battle, you get EXP as usual. You guys should level from 17 to 18. After that, a bit loading then a cut scene kicks in. Then little bit of loading and a quick cut scene. You guys will end up by the shore, and you gain control of the shujinkou. Since the other guys are still fainted, you are on your own. Let's check out the controls you can do here: L2 - Not used L1 - Change view from third to first person, or first to third. During first person, you can view around with the Right Stick Right Stick - Camera movement Left Stick/D-Pad - Character movement. If you hold down L1 while moving, you get fast run. If you hold down X, you get walking. L2 - Toggle between big, small and no map Square - Opens menu. 6 Options in total: - Item - Rune - Equipment - Tsuyosa(Strength/Power) - Formation - Configuration But only Item is available. As you can see, the default name for the shujinkou in the demo is 'Konami'. There you can also see his level, hp, rune, exp, money/pocchi and a timer. As well as 5 character slots, he shujinkou takes up one of them. Once you are set to go, explore the island a bit to get a feel of how this Suikoden works. If you go the mountain path, you get random encounter. Bubbles sort of appear and you get into the battle. Do remember since the main character uses twin blades, he can actual have 2 hits. If you are close to level up, and got not much HP, don't waste any items. Just level up and your HP will be full. This is very much similar to the recent RPG, Rockman X: Command Mission. At the end of the mountain, you got one big area. Not much to do but expore around and gather the item chest there as well. Once you are down, go back to the shore. One of the small area here got a little bird and fly away when you get near, not sure if you want to check that out. Anyway, check out your party member one by one, and they will join back the party. After that, you get a cut scene. Now continue down and at the intersection, the right path leads you to nowhere, but do take it and return. This will trigger a scene where you have to pick an option. It doesn't really matter what you pick. Then you just send your members to gather stuff. Go to the little area with the bird, check out 3 fruits on the ground. If you see Chiipuu around, you can shop from him as well. Time to check out the cave. At the end of the path, you will see a mysterious girl talking. That mermaid then jumps back into the water. There is a healing spot here, examine it to heal you FULLY. Get out of the cave. Talk to the members again to get them back to the party. Taru and Chiipuu should both be at the shore while that Jueru is at the beginning of the mountain path. Now back to the camping area. Select the second option to rest. After the cut scene, talk with Taru and the mermaid will show up. After the scene, Kika will join. Now head up the mountain path to get save that Chiipuu. For Kika, who shows up in nowhere and just join the party, she's got a thunder rune and a special rune. And now you can use Rune combination. Should be the lowest one if you select thunder rune with her or lowest for the fire rune with the shujinkou. After that, you will obtain the Kyouryoku(Cooperation), Double Sword Attack, between Kika and the shujinkou himself. A cut scene will show up where crabs chasing Chiipuu. You will end up fighting the crab boss, Nujigani, along with 2 Abaregani. Do test out the newly obtained Double Sword Attack on the boss which attacks all enemies. The boss won't do much since it will always shell itself up and have the small crabs to attack you. Once you take out the 2 small crabs. Just continue to use normal attacks. Do notice that Kika also attacks with twin blades just like the hero/ shujinkou. After couple turns, battle out. Have the shujinkou will use his true rune to attack the boss. Battle continues. This time, the battle is ready to attack along with 6 Abaregani. Shujinkou and Kika should do their double tech while Jueru can use the second level spell of the the water rune. Taru can just heal with items. By the second turn, you should have taken out the small crabs. Now for the shujinkou and Kika, use the combination rune spell. Both Jueru and Taru can either attack or heal. 3 combination spell and you should take out the boss. After that, that's it for the demo. If you like what you are getting from the demo, do remember to buy the full game when it comes out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Me - CJayC ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This Document Copyright 2004 Kouli
