Leveling up and increasing your experience is the key to beating this game. As you level up, you become more powerful, faster, and take less damage, thus making the game easier. If you have any questions, comments, or would like to contribute to the guide, just email me or post on the board. You will be credited for any contributions you make. A.C. - armor class, the higher the number, the less damage you take. AGL - agility, how fast you move and how high you can jump. Level Up - number of experience points required to go to next level. You can increase your experience status by either killing enemies or buying items from weapon shops. Different enemies and items give you different amounts of experience, some give you a little, others give you a lot. Usually the later enemies are the ones that give you a lot. Each character requires a different amount of points to get to the next level. There are 20 experience levels total and each character begins at level 1. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ CHARACTERS You have four characters to choose from, each having their own strengths and weaknesses. ========= |FIGHTER| ========= The fighter is probably the most well balanced character of the game. He is the strongest in terms of brute force, has great stamina, and great speed. His only weakness would be his short range. This weakness actually makes him harder to use than the game suggests. He does well against the early enemies, but it's the later enemies which don't even flinch when hit, where he struggles. The fighter is best used by intermediate players, rather than beginners. He is actually weak in all areas, weak strength, weak stamina, slow speed, and shortest range. He makes up for all these weaknesses by having very powerful spells. In terms of overall power, the mage is the most powerful character and the best boss killer due to his powerful magic. His magic also makes him have the widest range since most of his spells can cover the full screen. So this all sounds like he should be the best character in the game, but what keeps him from being the best is that there are quite a lot of enemies immune to magic. For those enemies immune to magic, the mage has to beat them hand to hand with his very short range and weak brute force. Not to mention that most of these immune enemies don't flinch when hit and are very aggressive. The mage is best used by expert players. Level 1 (Min.) These spells are usually more powerful than your regular attacks. To use these spells, press and hold the attack button. An icon will appear above your character's head and you'll begin cycling through spells you have obtained. Release the attack button when the icon of the spell you want to use appears. You must have enough magic points to cast these spells. You can see how many magic points you have as you're cycling through the spells, the number above the icons is your magic points meter. Magic points can be restored by resting at inns, continuing, or by getting the mage's wizard staff weapon which will auto-regenerate magic points at a constant rate. Not all enemies are affected by magic. Usually it's undead enemies, such as skeletons, zombies, and grim reapers that are immune to magic. Fireball (fireball) - weak projectile attack, not very useful, avoid at all costs and just stick to regular attacks or more powerful spells. You begin the game with this spell. Swarm of Knives (knife) - obtained at level 2. This causes several knives to swirl throughout the screen hitting several enemies. Does decent amount of damage and good for using on the earlier bosses. Fire Wave (three fireballs) - obtained at level 4. Creates a line of fire that travels a distance on the ground, can hit a row of enemies. Very powerful and can kill early bosses with one or two hits, definitely use against bosses who are on the ground. Circle of Flame (flame circle) - obtained at level 7. Creates a circle of blue flames which then expand throughout the screen hitting enemies in all directions. Very powerful, use against bosses and enemies who tend to be in the air. Lightning (lightning bolt) - obtained at level 11. Causes a lightning bolt to home in on enemies. Very powerful, use against the later enemies and bosses. Blast (explosion) - obtained at level 20. The most powerful attack in the game, kills regular enemies with one casting. Save this spell for the last boss, as it uses a lot of magic points for casting. When cast, nothing special happens on screen, you just see enemies die. =========== |PRIESTESS| =========== She is the best character in the game and best choice for beginners. She has good stamina, good speed, and great range once you get her weapon upgrades. According to her experience status she may come off as being the weakest in brute force, but because her weapon hits twice both while launching and retracting, this makes her just as powerful or if not more powerful than even the fighter. Her weapon can even pass through walls and enemies hitting any enemies that may be behind anything. She can easily beat a row of enemies with her long range flail weapon. The priestess also has magic, like the mage, only her magic is used for defense and healing. Her defensive magic is what makes her the best in the game. Overall, you can say she really doesn't have any weaknesses as even her weakness of brute force is overcome by her weapon hitting twice both ways. Level 1 (Min.) Level 2 Level 3 STR - 8 STR - 11 STR - 13 A.C. - 4 A.C. - 7 A.C. - 10 AGL - 32 AGL - 40 AGL - 47 Level Up - 70 Level Up - 140 Level Up - 280 Level 4 Level 5 Level 6 STR - 15 STR - 17 STR - 19 A.C. - 12 A.C. - 16 A.C. - 20 AGL - 55 AGL - 63 AGL - 69 Level Up - 560 Level Up - 1000 Level Up - 1600 Level 7 Level 8 Level 9 STR - 20 STR - 22 STR - 24 A.C. - 23 A.C. - 28 A.C. - 32 AGL - 74 AGL - 78 AGL - 84 Level Up - 2800 Level Up - 4300 Level Up - 6000 Level 10 Level 11 Level 12 STR - 26 STR - 28 STR - 29 A.C. - 35 A.C. - 39 A.C. - 42 AGL - 89 AGL - 95 AGL - 100 Level Up - 8000 Level Up - 10000 Level Up - 12000 Level 13 Level 14 Level 15 STR - 30 STR - 32 STR - 33 A.C. - 47 A.C. - 51 A.C. - 55 AGL - 107 AGL - 114 AGL - 120 Level Up - 14500 Level Up - 17000 Level Up - 20000 Level 16 Level 17 Level 18 STR - 35 STR - 37 STR - 38 A.C. - 58 A.C. - 60 A.C. - 61 AGL - 125 AGL - 130 AGL - 134 Level Up - 23000 Level Up - 26000 Level Up - 29500 Level 19 Level 20 (Max.) The priestess' spells are different, however, as they are used for defense and healing rather than offense. The spells are cast the same way as the mage's, press and hold the attack button to cycle through the spells you have obtained, then release when the icon of the spell you want to use appears. The priestess' spells also require magic points, which you can see how many you have while cycling through the spells. For the priestess, magic points can only be restored by resting at inns or by continuing, she does not have an auto-regeneration magic points ability. Life (red bottle) - when cast the game says it restores 10HP, but it really restores 16HP. You begin the game with this spell. Antidote (blue bottle) - obtained at level 4. This is used to cure poison, just like the antidotes you can buy from accessory shops. Invincibility (glowing shadow) - obtained at level 6. This makes you invincible allowing you to get hit without taking damage, works similar to the invincibility shield from the Shinobi games on the Sega Genesis, only this one can either last longer or shorter depending on how powerful the hit. Powerful enemies, like bosses, can break your shield with like three hits while weak enemies can hit you several times before your shield breaks. Time (sand clock) - obtained at level 11. This adds one minute to the timer, works just like sand clocks you can buy from accessory shops, only this spell adds more time. Quadruple Life (two red bottles) - obtained at level 16. This spell restores 64HP, works just like the life spell, only this restores 4x more health. ======= |NINJA| ======= A weak brute force character at the beginning, but becomes one of the strongest in both brute force and stamina as you level up. The ninja is a great choice for beginners. He has great stamina, is the fastest, and has the longest range since his attacks are shuriken projectiles. He can hit enemies from a full screen distance away. Once you get to the high levels, he sort of becomes like a super version of the fighter, without any weaknesses. The ninja's only weakness is that he is weak in brute force for the first half of the levels. Of course he makes up for this by having the longest range. Level 1 (Min.) Each character has their own set of items they can buy. You cannot buy items for a character that are for another, e.g. the mage uses staff weapons so you cannot buy a staff for the fighter, only the mage can buy staffs. ========= |FIGHTER| ========= The fighter uses swords for weapons and shields, armors, and helmets for protection. He is the only character to have a few items that decrease his status. Shields do not affect his status, they only have special abilities which are used to block various enemy projectiles. Not all projectiles can be blocked, though. The fighter plays similar to Link from Zelda 2: Adventure of Link on the NES. He even has a sword that throws a fireball and can do a downward thrust attack with his sword. So if you liked that game, you'll probably like the fighter. -Swords- Broad Sword STR +6 Cost - 80 Ability - none Location - weapon shop of village in 2nd world. As he upgrades his weapons, he tends to gain and lose a special ability, thus making the upgrade about just as equal to the previous one. For his last weapon upgrade, his shurikens get replace by a very powerful fireball called "Spirit Ball". He plays quite similar to Shinobi and even has a weapon upgrade where he can do a shuriken spread.
