About this FAQ ================== Game: Tales of Rebirth Author: Genom Screams E-mail: iwilldie@singnet.com.sg Version: 1.0 Last modified: 3/16/05 This is my first attempt in writing an FAQ for a game. ^_^ I hope that this FAQ will be helpful to all who loves Tales of Rebirth as much as I do! Some information are obtained from WikiHouse and translated by a lousy translator, me, to help those that does not really know how to read Japanese. Note: I can only read Japanese to a certain extent so don't expect too much from me. ^.^; =================== Copyright Statement =================== This guide was written by Genom Screams, and may not be reproduced, in whole or in part, without my specific written consent. I have no problem letting people host my guide, provided that they ask first. If you get permission to repost this, it must be kept exactly as it is, with no advertisements, banners, HTML, etc. Keep it as a text file. TO contact me, either to ask permission or you see this guide displayed elsewhere, look for my e-mail address above. Thanks. ============================= II. Introduction to Gemstones ============================= What are gemstones? Gemstones are basically accessories that the characters equip (third row in the equip screen) to help the characters in battle by boosting the characters' battle stats. Since all characters can equip only one gemstone per character, it is important that the correct gemstone is chosen for the character. I do not suggest doing things like equipping a gemstone that reduces magic cast time on melee characters like Veigue or Tytree. Choose the gemstones that suit the characters or your playing style the best. Note that you are only allowed to carry a total of 60 gemstones in the game. Please note that once the gemstones are unequipped, the stat boost will be gone as well. Are they a must-have? Well, any accessories that help to boost battle stats are a must have in any RPGs. However, you may want to omit them in your game if you want to add more excitement. O.o ==================== III. Gemstone grades ==================== There are a total of 6 gemstone grades in the game. Pearl - grade 1 (lowest grade) Onyx - grade 2 Topaz - grade 3 Emerald - grade 4 Sapphire - grade 5 Diamond - grade 6 Different gemstone grades will boost your stats by a different amount. The higher the grade, the higher boost your character will get. Throughout the course of the game, you will receive high grade gemstones through monster drops, treasure boxes or from purchases in towns. However, Tales of Rebirth offered a way to obtain the highest grade gemstones by combining lower grade ones. This will be explained in a later section in this FAQ. ======================== IV. Variety of gemstones ======================== There are a total of 18 types of gemstones in Tales of Rebirth, all boosting your stats in different ways. The types of most of the gemstones are self explanatory on the effects they do. The effect translations MAY be wrong, all thanks to my limited Japanese knowledge (all thanks to my laziness in my Japanese classes during university days...<_<) The gemstone types will be recognised by a representive letter to help in a later part for this FAQ. Type Letter Effect ------- ------ ------ 1. Fight A Increases slash attack power 2. Muscle B Increases melee attack power 3. Shield C Increases defense against slash attacks 4. Protect D Increases defense against melee attacks 5. Mind E Increase magical damage 6. Resist F Increase magical defense 7. Heal G Increases HP recovery rate 8. Force H Increases Force Gauge (FG) recovery rate 9. Life I Increases maximum HP 10. Nature J Increases FG recovery amount when using normal attacks 11. Medical K Increases HP recovery amount after defeating enemies 12. Mental L Increase FG recovery amount after defeating enemies 13. Break M Reduces Rush Gauge (RG) when blocking enemie's attacks 14. Mighty N Increases time duration for stat boost effects 15. Recover O Reduces time duration for stat reduction effects 16. Charge P Increase RG charging speed 17. Misty Q Reduces magic cast time 18. Piyohan R Reduces dizziness duration time The names of the gemstone shown in the game are as follows: Type + Gemstone grade For example, Fight Pearl will be a grade 1 gemstone affecting slash attack power. ====================== V. Combining Gemstones ====================== In the course of the game, you will receive a lot of low grade gems (pearls and onyx) mostly from monster drops. As you are only allowed to carry 60 gemstones, do you sell the extras away? NO! You can combine them to get a different kind of gemstone or a higher graded one.This section will talk about gemstone combination to aid you to obtain your desired gemstone. a - Things to note ================== There are a few things to note before combining gemstones: 1. Only gemstones having the same grade can be combined. 2. Combining gemstones can only be done in accessory shops. 3. Combining gemstones needs gald. (Yes, I only found this out after a while..) 4. Combining gemstones will either result in type change or gem grade up. 5. Gemstones grade up as such: Pearl-> Onyx-> Topaz-> Emerald -> Sapphire-> Diamond. There is no shortcut in obtaining a diamond grade gemstone. b - Gemstone Combination Chart ============================== Below is the combination chart for easy reference. The gemstone type representative letter will be used in this section. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |-> | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | L | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | M | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | N | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | O | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | P | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Q | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | R | ^ | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K | L | M | N | O | P | Q | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ^ - represents gemstone grade up How to use the Gemstone Combination Chart ========================================= 1. Choose the first gemstone type from the first row. 2. Choose the second gemstone type from the first column. 3. The intersect point will be the new gemstone type after combining. 4. For grading up gemstones, the graded up gemstone type will be based on the first chosen gemstone. Example: Fight (A) Pearl + Piyohan (R) Pearl = Fight Onyx Piyohan (R) Pearl + Fight (A) Pearl = Piyohan Onyx c - Cost of Combining Gemstones ================================ Depending on the gem grade and the combination result (type change or grade up), the cost differs. Higher grade gems and gem grade up will definitely cost more. ------------------------------------- | Grade | Type Change | Grade Up | ------------------------------------- | Pearl | 100G | 400G | ------------------------------------- | Onyx | 400G | 1500G | ------------------------------------- | Topaz | 1500G | 6000G | ------------------------------------- | Emerald | 6000G | 25,000G | ------------------------------------- | Sapphire | 25,000G | 100,000G | ------------------------------------- ======================= VI. Obtaining gemstones ======================= There are 3 ways in which to obtain gemstones in the game. From monster drops, treasure boxes in dungeons and from accessory shops in towns. I will only touch on the gemstones available in towns as they are easier to obtain if you are eager to get good gems by combining or need a particular gemstone to combine to form one that you need without taking cost into consideration. Note that some towns do not sell gemstones. ====================================== | Town |Gemstone | Cost | ====================================== | Sannytown |Fight Pearl | 775G | | |Muscle Pearl | 765G | | |Shield Pearl | 760G | | |Protect Pearl | 755G | -------------------------------------- | Anikamal |Mind Pearl | 785G | | |Resist Pearl | 780G | | |Heal Pearl | 825G | | |Force Pearl | 835G | | |Life Pearl | 855G | -------------------------------------- | Babilograd |Medical Pearl | 875G | | |Mental Pearl | 850G | | |Mighty Pearl | 900G | | |Recover Pearl | 925G | | |Charge Pearl | 880G | -------------------------------------- | Balka |Shield Onyx | 1672G | | |Nature Onyx | 2090G | | |Break Onyx | 1947G | | |Misty Onyx | 2200G | | |Piyohan Onyx | 2013G | -------------------------------------- | Rashilda |Protect Onyx | 1661G | | |Mind Onyx | 1727G | | |Life Onyx | 1881G | | |Medical Onyx | 1925G | | |Mental Onyx | 1870G | -------------------------------------- | Pipista |Fight Onyx | 1705G | | |Muscle Onyx | 1683G | | |Resist Onyx | 1716G | | |Heal Onyx | 1815G | | |Force Onyx | 1837G | -------------------------------------- | Kyogen |Break Topaz | 4283G | | |Mighty Topaz | 4356G | | |Recover Topaz | 4477G | | |Charge Topaz | 4259G | | |Piyohan Topaz | 4428G | -------------------------------------- | Nolzen |Fight Topaz | 3751G | | |Heal Topaz | 3993G | | |Force Topaz | 4041G | | |Nature Topaz | 4598G | | |Misty Topaz | 4840G | -------------------------------------- | Mocrado |Shield Emerald | 8091G | | |Mind Emerald | 8357G | | |Life Emerald | 9103G | | |Mental Emerald | 9050G | | |Break Emerald | 9422G | | |Recover Emerald| 9849G | | |Piyohan Emerald| 9741G | -------------------------------------- ===================== VII.
