Copyright 2006 "Dopplemoogle" ------------ Introduction ------------ Hello everyone. Tales of Rebirth is a wonderful game, regardless of language barriers. Since not everyone can read Japanese, everyone seems to be asking the same questions about Hi-Ougis, or the super- ultra-cool-flashy attacks that seem to pop up randomly. In writing this guide, I hope to help Tales of Rebirth fans discover the truth of Hi-Ougis. Enjoy. ---------------------------- When are hi-ougis activated? ---------------------------- To activate a hi-ougi, you must press X during the onscreen prompt "FINALITY CHARGE BREAK!! PRESS X!" How do you get these to appear? Read on. ------------------ The Hidden Counter ------------------ Hi-ougi activation is dependent on several things. The first of which I will talk about is the mysterious "hidden counter". The hidden counter is actually increased by awakenings. Everytime the awakening factor comes out, (ex. Damage x2, Phys Hit 50%) the counter increases by +6. When the counter reaches +100, you can activate the "Finality Charge Break" when an awakening is activated again. Sometimes you have to awaken a few times before it comes out; it is irrelevant whether the equipment being awakened is an armour or weapon. -------------------- Universal Conditions (in addition to the hidden counter) -------------------- (1)* There has to be only one enemy remaining onscreen (regardless of HP). (2)* If you are fighting a boss, it has to have less than 10% MaxHP remaining. (3) You can only use a Hi-Ougi once every six random battles; boss battles do not have this rule. You should be able to execute a Hi-Ougi in a boss battle immediately after a random battle in which you executed a hi-ougi. (4) You can only execute some hi-ougis at certain points in the game. The earliest you can manually execute one is after Hilda joins your party in Sannytown. (See below.) *The reasons for these conditions are that they are "Finality" attacks. In other words, they are FINISHERS that end the battle. When used, the final enemy in the battle is defeated, and therefore the battle ends. -------------------------- Which Hi-Ougi is executed? -------------------------- The hi-ougi chosen will be between the character you're controlling (the one that presses X during "Finality Charge Break") and the nearest "eligible" partner (must be between a melee fighter and magic user). If a condition is not met, the hi-ougi executed will be different than the one you intended to execute. INDIVIDUAL CONDITIONS: *Inferno Drive (Mao + Eugene) - No extra condition. *Ryuuko Metsugazan (Annie + Veigue) - No extra condition. *Thousand Braver (Hilda + Tytree) - No extra condition. *Embrace End (Mao + Veigue) - Battle count over 100, Veigue and Mao over Lv25. *Infinity Strike (Annie + Tytree) - Battle count over 150, Annie and Tytree over Lv30. *Dual the Sun (Hilda + Eugene) - Battle count over 200, Hilda and Eugene over Lv35. *Celsius Caliber (Hilda + Veigue) - Battle count over 250, Hilda and Veigue over Lv40. *Guren Tenshou (Mao + Tytree) - Battle count over 300, Mao and Tytree over Lv45. *Shouha Rekkousen (Annie + Eugene) - After clearing Annie's trial with Sacred Beast "Wontiga". ***** The level requirements seem to change with either game completions or grade shop purchases. For me, I was on my third playthrough and used EXP*5. The level requirements changed to Lv40, 45, 50, 55, and 60, respectively. EXECUTING DUAL THE SUN EXTENSION: - Must be on 2nd gameplay or later. - Of course, the conditions for executing Dual the Sun must be met. - There must be at least two controllers plugged in, one each for Hilda and Mao. The character(s) may be in any position, and may be on any control setting (Auto, Semi-Auto, or Manual). Meet the conditions for executing Dual the Sun. During the hi-ougi... 1) During Dual the Sun, use Mao's controller and press Square 6 times. -> Aquarious Sphere 2) During Aquarius Sphere, use Hilda's controller and press Triangle 9 times. -> Prismic Stars 3) During Prismic Stars, use Mao's controller and press Circle 10 times. -> Brightest Gate 4) During Brightest Gate, use Hilda's controller and press X 9 times. -> Explosion Nova 5) During Explosion Nova, use Mao's controller and press Square+Triangle 10 times. -> Maxwell Roar 6) During Maxwell Roar, use Hilda's controller and press Circle+X 8 times. -> Dimensional Material 7) During Dimensional Material, use Mao's controller and press Circle+X+Triangle+Square+L2 10 times. -> Blue Earth Executing Blue Earth should give you 100000 extra EXP at the end of the battle. --------------- Questions Asked --------------- Q. Is the 100000EXP bonus for the Duel the Sun extension multiplied by grade shop effects (EXP x5)? A. Yes. If you have EXP x2, you will get 200000EXP + whatever EXP you would normally get. Q. Do the buttons during the Duel the Sun extension have to be pressed together or separately? A. Together. It is quite tricky, since the time frame to do so is so short, but it is doable. Q. For the Duel the Sun extension, can I press the combinations as many times as I want, or do I have to press the buttons exactly the amount of times listed above? A. Unfortunately, it has to be exactly what's listed. However, on your third game and later, you are allowed to press the button combinations (clears - 2) times fewer than what is listed. For example, if you are on your fifth playthrough, you can press Square 3 to 6 times to activate Aquarius Sphere. Q. For the invisible counter, do the two characters I want to do the Hi-ougi with have to each have 100 points in the invisible counter? A. No, there is only one counter; it is universal. Any character can be used to raise the counter. The counter applies to all characters at once, and these points can be used by any character to activate the hi-ougi. Q. I don't agree with your facts, and I my understandings of hi-ougis is a bit more accurate. A. That is fair. I do not own the official Namco complete guide, but I used some Japanese sites as a reference, and I am assuming their information is accurate. Unfortunately, I tried searching for the sites again and cannot find them, so the best I can do is continue to answer your questions. This information has worked perfectly for me. ------- Credits ------- Namco, thank you for making such a wonderful game GameFAQs, for hosting this guide Most importantly, me, for writing this guide :) Japanese Tales sites, for some of the information You, for reading this thing
